Watching Eddie Begins with Buddie-colored glasses on is already crazy enough, but I just caught something that I never really thought about before. Athena tells Bobby that the news crews showing up before she leaves for another call might turn the call into a nationwide story. And then Buck absolutely LOSES it when 30 feet of wet earth falls on top of Eddie. So yeah, maybe Bobby pulls Buck away to stop him from futilely digging for Eddie with his hands, but maybe he also does it because he doesn’t want his kid’s grief and fear and love for Eddie being broadcast across the country. Especially not when Bobby thinks that Eddie’s probably already dead. And not only does Bobby pull Buck away from the well, he pulls back right into his lap. This is the closest we get to Bobby cradling Buck in his arms until the lightning strike, and it’s because he doesn’t want Buck to be in pain, and he most certainly does NOT want the tragedy of Eddie’s death to be made even worse by Buck’s pain over it being broadcast to the entire country.

Ok i think im really sick of this so i'll say it - it is very obvious how much of a higher standard people here hold max up to compared with the rest of the cast and im really sick of people pretending they don't do this.

You are not smart for saying constantly "oh max is an asshole" and not providing any other further explanation for that same statement. You all will ignore the times that other, worse written characters have been rude in the show in favour of reiterating the same point over and over and over and over and im really sick of pretending otherwise. Like no shit max is an asshole id be a dickhead too if my entire worldview was based on the fact that my parents are too busy to give a fuck and i have only myself to rely on in this world.

And if i said this is also heavily because of the fact that max is an indian child and a lot of people have issues with seeing children as people by themselves along with how poc are adultified socially id be the bad guy. I'll likely elaborate on this more in a later post but I simply have so many issues with how this fanbase treats max and im really sick of this

Books of 2024: THE ART OF EXCESS by Tom LeClair.

Another day, another "requesting niche out of print nonfiction from the library that they have to borrow from the Library of Congress, because of course they do"! I didn't actually read the whole thing because I'm not familiar with six out of the seven books he analyzes, but I did read the preface, the introduction, and the chapter about Le Guin's ALWAYS COMING HOME (which was really the epilogue lol).

His framework of "systems novels" was fascinating to me and my biology-oriented brain, and he flagged a lot of the same things I transcribed for my "le guin posting" tag, which I thought was neat! Unfortunately: he nerfed himself by spending most of his time on behemoth novels by six white men as Representative of Excess as Mastery, so I found his overall conclusions lackluster--like, dude, really, broaden your sample size if you're trying to generalize to American Literature Going Forward (it's no wonder Le Guin was the most hopeful and reconstructive of the lot, given the synopses of the other bricks he discussed). Neat intro and preface! And I found myself nodding along to a lot of his insights on Le Guin, but I also found myself rolling my eyes at how he tried to generalize from the texts he selected.

Geneuary Day Three: Slumber Party/Jealousy

This piece was definitely inspired by the episode Slumber Party (I knew I just had to take inspiration from there, it was too perfect) and how Louise got a Slumber Party which Gene enjoyed a whole lot more than she did (Linda had to tell him to give someone else a turn during the fashion show) so he's a bit jealous about that.

and btw i actually love when people do fanart of books because of my trouble with visualizing the characters while im reading in a coherent way

its a lot more like dreaming if that makes sense, its like the way you have to focus very hard to lucid dream and 'control' things, otherwise a dream is very much at the mercy of your mind, the difference being a handful of vague guidelines when you're reading. but i often have to go back and reread those guidelines to hold a consistent image in my mind. and some characters just do not get visualized at all if they arent described

it didn’t matter that it was some kind of murder, a death by a thousand cuts. i would’ve killed for him, anyway. and now, i’m torn between a resurrection and a rebirth.

do i conduct seances and postmortems on the remnants of who i used to be? should i read my journals and dissect every sentence to find the girl who died and try to live as she once did? should i go to the beach and try to remember how the ocean made me feel before he rolled his eyes at the awe in mine? should i walk around our city, trying to remember everything i once loved, and try to relove it?

or do i treat this as some kind of reincarnation? should i write new journals everyday and try to fit pieces of myself together to find who i should live as now? should i accept that i won’t love the beach in the same way anymore and that it’s okay, to love it in a different way, or to never love it again at all? should i forget about our city and find one that’s just mine and fall in love with it all over again?

i’m torn between a resurrection and a rebirth.

what if the murder-suicide of spirit, was so brutal that i never come back entirely and live as a ghost of what once was?

or what if i am a still-born, unable to breathe with the new life given to me; unable to fall in love with it, and spending existence stuck in its jaws?

Usually I wouldn’t gaf about this and move on but two times have i seen a character that the western part of fandom has a large group of people headcanoning them as trans getting informed about a mistranslation or misinterpretation that lead the group of people headcanoning that character as trans even harder have some random ass mfs go “see they’re not transgender 😂😂 westerners always trying to make them woke 😂😂 tired of these western fans not understanding cultural differences 😂😂 now theyre gonna start calling you transphobic be careful op 😂😂” when the original post never even denied that headcanon and was simply spreading information….
