i would make one those ‘we listen and we don’t judge’ posts for camp camp on here because im innately nosy but also im not sure the fandom is big enough for that
#participating. i think max is the best character in the show#amd a lot of max haters are simply jealous thier faves dont have the same screentime n thus make up reasons on why hes evil#that and also racism.lol

since i lowk dgaf abt what people in this fandom think of me for having basic media literacy and logical reasoning atp
i think quite a few of you pretend to be better people by making max's parents "good people" so you can fight off against early fandom's potrayal of white saviour esque dadvid [which isnt even the dynamic in canon, but i digress] but because people doing this were drawing an eye during literature class they just fight racism with more racism.
because tell me why i have seen "max's parents are poor people who cannot speak english" more than once. Why is it so impossible for people to see that max is a neglected child who acts out because he is neglected at home and his parents dont care about him.
Why do you need the writers and artists to establish something which is basically screamed at you by the narrative?
Literally why are you all insanely dense about a child acting mean to others due to the fact that they are neglected at home.
Like just say it dude is it because max is an indian immigrant child who doesnt act like a soft pure victim like you all want him to act like and thus just casual denial of max's canonical neglect is justified. I literally hate some of you people
#camp camp#camp camp discourse#havent even mentioned how as an indian person it is insanely dehumanising that people still think indian immigrants dont know how to speak#english something that is taught to several indians#and especially for an immigrant family in america for a camp like camp campbell which is stated to be expensive#like every context clue basically yells at you these people are rich and do not care for their child. Max is a victim of neglect#denying this is being at this point intentionally obtuse and honestly headcanoning shit like this is honestly actually racist#not even gonna add character tags. go figure#im just sick of people pretending to be anti racism and all this but then make up shit like this like it is hurtful. as a victim of abuse#and as an indian . it hurts dude#you are hurting more people than helping. hope this helps

Harrison the Illusionist and his brother Emile. [based on Ivan the terrible and his son Ivan]
[honestly- wild way to introduce my harrison brother oc. you'll find out more about him below]
So emile is basically my cc harrison brother oc, and he's about 4 years older than harrison [14-15 approx] . He's kind and studies sociology. Does genuinely believe harrison has magic, though is still a bit skeptical [he is atheist in his majority christian household. lord save him].
Originally, i imagine harrison's parents planned to send emile to the camp first, due to the fact that emile was becoming more atheist day by day and they decided to sign him up for camp campbell for "bible camp". However, one day in helping harrison with a magic trick, emile dissapeared. This was the straw that made them send Harrison for Magic Camp.
Well...He sure does believe in God now, huh?
His relationship with Harrison is. Kind. He does worry and care for his brother and loves him a lot, and honestly, is his first friend. However, with all of that, Harrison feels a degree of jealousy towards Emile, mostly because Emile was absolutely the more favored one in the household [not to a golden child - scapegoat degree just. yknow how parents do that favoring ur older sibling buisness. that.], even though he loves and cherishes and misses him. Very complicated relationship. Yay!
Please ask me more about them. Im begging everyone. thanks.

i've wanted to discuss this on here for a while too and like this very weird "speculative" nature of max's canonical situation which has been confirmed several times is just very very very weird to me lord
seeing very peculiar takes on max going around recently and i feel like it’s important to mention that you guys really don’t have to try your best to avoid calling what he experiences child neglect. aside from it being alluded to in the series on several occasions, the show’s staff has also called it neglect in out of the show material several times too (one of such instances being as recent as this month). it’s really not doing any of you any favors when you are choosing to call his parents every possible word in the book instead of neglectful and as such not only minimizing the intentional writing choices and themes of the media at hand, but also not properly acknowledging why max is the way he is in an actually meaningful way
