@winterandwords tagged me to find "Definitely not" or a phrase that matches the vibe, so I went poking around in my Becks Backstory doc and found the vibe.

Context: mc just killed a gargoyle that was attacking her and a kid that had started following her around.

She walked back over to the fire and poked it back into life. Grabbed at the saddle blanket, holding it up and frowning at the claw marks. She’d have to figure out how to repair it. Or get a new one. Stuck her hand through one of the sliced openings and nodded. Definitely get a new one. No way she was going to be able to repair this. Not with her skill sets.

It's the best vibe I could find 😅

This snippet comes from "As A Stranger Or A Friend?: The Swallow and The Drowned Sailor" (aka AASOAF 2) from Fay's POV. She is speaking to Wilkes in this scene.

“Is that what you’re so hung up on, then? A few words?” I replied flatly.

“Do you truly think I’m so stupid? I know there is more to it than that.” He insisted.

I smacked my lips. “You’re getting worked up over nothing. Stop being a child.”

“I do not think it is childish for a husband to become upset when his wife is being intentionally deceptive.” He replied angrily.

“Oh please, as if you tell me everything.” I bit back.

“Aye, I do. I don’t keep things from you, Fay.” He said, shaking his head at me.

“Why must you know everything? What are you going to ask for next, a log of everything I spend my time doing?! Perhaps even the thoughts that I am thinking!” I retorted.

“Stop it. You know that’s not what I’m asking.” He warned with a growl.

“Isn’t it?!”

“No! I’m simply asking you to be honest with me because I refuse to believe that’s all you want from this woman!” He yelled, gesturing around with his hands frustratedly.

“Gods, why does it matter what I want if you can’t get the most basic thing out of her?!” I jabbed an accusatory finger in his direction.

“Fay—”

“Oh, go on! Put yourself on your pedestal like you always do! Tell me how patient you are! Go on!" I screamed at him.

Thank you for the tag, @writernopal. It's not every day I get tagged for a game I haven't seen before. (Although, now that I've left this sitting in my Drafts so long I'm starting to see it as "Find The Vibe Tag".)

My phrase to find was "It's not goodbye, it's see you later." Not something that I had the exact wording for, but the last few lines of the Empty Names side story, There Are No Dogs At The Dog Park, fits the sentiment closely enough.

“I’m… well, I’m not sure if I am fine.  I’m still processing it all.  But apology accepted anyway.  I figure you at least meant well.  And,” she pauses, embarrassed, “I think I did enjoy some of the parts that I remember.”

Eris chuckles softly and flashes that grin again; wilder for a fraction of a second than anything Sarah was last night and then taming itself into amiability.  “Glad to hear it.  Just be careful about which parts you enjoy.  You don’t -” The buzz of a text message vibrating her phone cuts her off.  “Well, that’s my ride, so I should get going.  Feel free to hang around and recover as long as you need.  It was nice meeting you.”

“Thanks.  It was nice meeting you too.”  More than nice?  No, don’t go there.  “Will I see you next month?”

“If you want, and the good doctors aren’t still mad at me.” Eris turns to walk off, and pauses.  “Oh yeah, speaking of them, Gita’s going to want to talk to you to see how you’re doing too.  Don’t be afraid to let her know if she starts going full psych eval on you, she gets carried away like that sometimes worrying after the newbies.”  Her phone buzzes again, longer.  “Well, laters,” she says and walks off toward the visitor center’s exit with a wave.

Sarah sips her terrible coffee and waves while watching her go.

I had to scour through my drafts to find something that would fit this prompt, and I was able to find two: one that's a little loose but is part of what I've posted to Tumblr, and one that better fits the prompt but the context hasn't been uploaded yet. So if you want to avoid a minor spoiler, I would definitely advise avoiding the second quote!

First Instance (Agent Ace, Chapter 3, Sophia's POV, TW for brief description of blood):

"I thought you were dead," Jet whispered. "Are you okay?" "I'm fine. What about you?" Sophia pulled away and inspected him. The vigilantes had left him with his Guardian uniform, though the suit, with its battered blue and black leather armor and torn hood, had seen better days. Dried blood crusted on the side of his face and pooled in his ear. "Oh, I'm alright." He stepped back with a light chuckle, but Sophia saw the way he slumped over, with one hand holding his side, and heard the wheeze in his voice. "You're hurt," she said. "And that's a nasty-looking mark," he replied, gesturing toward her face. Sophia lifted her fingers toward the bump, but dropped them back to her side. "Jet, what happened?" she asked.

Second Instance: (Agent Ace, Chapter ??, Sophia's POV, *out-of-context spoilers ahead*):

Janus stood patiently in the center of the clearing, turning towards Sophia with a smile as she approached. She stopped in front of him as the hairs on the back of her neck prickled uncomfortably. He looked almost exactly the same as he had every other time she'd seen him, except he wore a black t-shirt instead of a jacket and dark sunglasses that obscured his eyes. Something about it irked her deeply. She raised her eyebrows and motioned towards the sunglasses. "Incredibly discreet." "Says the one in a baseball cap," he responded, sticking his hands in his pockets with a shrug. "But you know what they say if it ain't broke." Sophia huffed and brushed past him. "Let's get this over with."

I picked a line from towards the end of Sandalwood, when Dakota first tells Ipsimus they love him. Dakota has summoned the archangel Gabriel to help unbind Ipsimus's magic so they can defeat Lucifer

Sandalwood: Chapter 35. Heartfelt

“Ipismus here,” I gestured to him, “wants to prevent that war as much as I’m sure you do. But his magic has been bound by Lucifer to prevent him from defying him any longer.”

Gabriel looked to Ipsimus. He seemed to be sizing the demon up. Then he looked back to me.

“Could you help with the bind?” I asked. “Together, our magic should be enough to remove it.”

Gabriel studied me for a moment. I could see the gears turning in his head and she considered the outcome of releasing Ipsimus’s power. After a moment, he nodded. Then he gestured for Ipsimus to come closer. 

Ipsimus came to stand beside me. I gestured for him to lean down so I could whisper, “This is it,” I said. “See you on the other side. I love you.” The words came before I could stop myself. I wanted him to know, in case things went sideways, but I was still embarrassed. I felt myself flush as he looked down at me.

Gabriel reached out and placed a hand on Ipsimus. A bright light sparked between them and Ipsimus winced from what I assumed was the pain. I grabbed Ipsimus’s hand and channeled my power into him. I imagined the bond breaking, snapping like a chain link. 

I closed my eyes and felt my power leaving me, entering Ipsimus. I suddenly felt very tired. The chain fought me, and I pulled and pulled. My vision went black and I fell.

Cazador's Ritual Runes, Translated

Inner: AMPLIFY + HIM + FLOW + EMPOWR [sic] Middle: WE OFFER THE FORCE OF LIFE Outer: WE GATHER HERE TO INVOKE THE POWER OF BLOD [sic]

Mephistopheles can't spell for beans.

(Detailed analysis & conjecture regarding this text, the Rite of Profane Ascension, & Astarion's translated scars under the cut.)

The second ring was the easiest, as the characters are very similar to Latin letters and clearly read out "WE OFFER THE FORCE OF LIFE." Characters were now known for C, E, F, H, I, L, O, R, T, and W. It wasn't clear yet if there were cases.

I was struggling with the first ring, though after decoding the second, I could get a likely "_M_LIF_ + _IM + _LOW + EM_OWR". Guessing the character for P, Y, and A based on context gave me "AMPLIFY + _IM + _LOW + EMPOWR", but I had doubts over the first characters for words two and three. I suspected they would be HIM and FLOW, but the H and F characters didn't match the H from the second ring's "THE" or the F from "AMPLIFY". Also, "empower" was misspelled, which made me pause.

Abandoning those for a moment, the third ring mapped well onto "WE _ATHER HERE TO I__O_E THE _OWER OF _LO_". Ruling out known letters which were not present, I could guess "WE GATHER HERE TO I__O_E THE POWER OF _LO_", but again the P from "POWER" was not the same as the P from "AMPLIFY" in the inner ring. However, it was very, very similar, and nothing else fit, so I committed, now suspecting there were capital versions of some letters included in the text.

At this point I went digging for resources. I found a copy of an Infernal alphabet on the Forgotten Realms wiki, and while it looks like the typeface Larian used is a bespoke creation for the game rather than a 1:1 copy of this alphabet, the letters for lowercase G, N, K, B, and D were nearly identical. Y (from AMPLIFY) also matched perfectly, confirming that earlier guess. This gave a clear "WE GATHER HERE TO INVOKE THE POWER OF BLOD."

This resulted in: AMPLIFY + _IM + _LOW + EMPOWR WE OFFER THE FORCE OF LIFE WE GATHER HERE TO INVOKE THE POWER OF BLOD

Looking at the wiki for capital letters, the only ones I could find which might reasonably fit the _IM missing character (assuming the Larian alphabet was based off this wiki typography) were A, B, H, O, T, V, and Y. Of those choices, only AIM, HIM, TIM, and VIM were words, and as cheesy as Cazador is, I couldn't imagine him saying AMPLIFY TIM FLOW EMPOWR. Given the alternatives, HIM was the only choice which made sense.

I went through the same process for _LOW, but this character seems unmatchable to me. By far it looks the most like the E from the Infernal alphabet, with maybe a capital Y being a distant second. However, ELOW and YLOW are certainly not words, and absent all other comparatives, the character in question does resemble a fancy F. Barring other languages, FLOW with a capital or unique F fits best.

AMPLIFY + HIM + FLOW + EMPOWR WE OFFER THE FORCE OF LIFE WE GATHER HERE TO INVOKE THE POWER OF BLOD

I did double-check the texts available in Cazador's mansion just to make sure this hadn't been translated elsewhere (after I'd done all the work, of course), and the only written text of relevance is from the Black Mass scroll you find near Vellioth's skull. It reads:

The Rite of Profane Ascension Oh, piteous dead! Oh, ravenous dead! Immortality is your gift, but darkness is your prison and hunger its gaoler. The Rite of Profane Ascension will release you. Walk in the sun. Suffer not from hunger. Grow your power beyond anything you imagined. A pact has been made with the Lord of Hellfire. Deliver unto him seven thousand souls, each bearing an Infernal mark, and you shall be free of your chains. You shall know true power. Deliver the souls. Speak the words. Ecce dominus, Has animas offero in sacrificio, Nunc volo potestatem quam pollicitus es mihi.

The Latin translates (as best I can tell with my incredibly weak Latin) to:

Behold [the] Lord, I offer these souls in sacrifice, I want the power thou hast promised me.

Which is interesting, but not clearly mapped to the Infernal above. Then I started wondering what relationship Astarion's scars have with all this, but thankfully, someone else has done the work here!

Astarion's scars have been transcribed and translated in a wonderfully detailed Reddit post by northpaw_s in 2020, but the salient points are that they appear to be in a mishmash of mangled Latin and Romance languages ("Infernal") and read:

Hoyc inferiu non iurare per igneu Naec virba loquor Eoai mundo muoat

Which appears to roughly translate to:

This soul swears no oath by fire Nor words does he speak In the realm of death

This makes sense if it's a fragment of a contract. I suspect the other spawn's scars are all identical to Astarion's for game mechanics/development reasons, but it'd be wild if they did have minor differences to complete the rest of the phrases! I know the scars don't show on their backs they way they do on Astarion's outside of the moment of the ritual, but it really does make me wonder if there's a complete text of the poem in some writer's documentation somewhere.

As an aspec person who did eventually "find the right person" it didn't suddenly erase my aro-aceness like so many aphobes believe. Being in a happy, loving relationship & feeling genuine sexual attraction for the first time in my life has done nothing to change how I feel alienated from the majority of the world, the panic spirals about not being "allo enough", the constant confusion at how love & sex focused allos can be. If anything, having a proper basis for romantic & sexual attraction has made me MORE aspec, not less. I finally feel confident in actually using these labels for myself. Aromantism & Asexuality aren't something that can be """fixed""". It'll always part of a person even if they don't seem it from the outside.

From a WIP I've been staring at and a scene I probably won't be able to use, but it matched 😂

This is my character Jules talking to someone right after she participated in attacking the ship they were on and then hiding in the aftermath.

“Relax dear,” I said easily, leaning back on my hands. “I just want to talk.” He glanced around, looking directly at where one of the cameras were ‘hidden’ and I smiled wider. “Tsk tsk tsk,” I chided with a wagging finger. “Do you really think I would trick the camera images and not keep it up? The pirate still thinks this room is empty. Now be quiet for a moment and let me have my fun.” “What do you want?” He finally asked. So cute, him trying to be brave and immovable. “Well,” I answered, sliding off the crates onto my heels, “I think it’s more a matter of who wants want. You see, I’m on a mission of my own that requires names and locations of weapons sellers. Something you would know about, I’m sure.”

My phrase was "I love you" which let me tell you, dear reader, posting the moment of "I love you" as a romance author feels sacrilege lol. So instead, I'm giving you all a sweet moment that reads as "I love you." This snippet comes from "As A Stranger Or A Friend?" Book 1, enjoy!

I set about folding the linens and our clothes when I heard the door open and turned to see Axtapor come inside. In his hands, he had two books. Odd, I thought, he wasn’t much of a reader, at least not that I had observed. 

“Welcome home.” I greeted him with a small smile before returning to my work.

“Aye, thank ye.” He responded somewhat sheepishly.

I heard him approach and turned to see what he might want. He was standing beside me now and, for some reason, looked nervous.

“Went by the market earlier and picked these for ye.”

“Oh.” I said, pausing my work to look at the books curiously, “For me?”

“Aye. Thought ye might like them.”

“Th-Thank you. That’s very generous.” I said before taking them from him gently.

“Nary a thin’.” He said, waving me away, then sat down on the couch, “What be ye cookin’? Smells good.”

“Ah… I thought I would try my hand at clay pot lamb. I heard it is a popular dish in the Holtep Empire. Is that true?” I asked nervously. 

He blinked at me, somewhat taken aback, before nodding. “Aye, it be hard to get right.”

“Oh... Perhaps it will be a failure then….” I thumbed the edge of one of the books nervously. 

I thought I would surprise him with a dish from home to try lifting his spirits as he seemed particularly down in the past two days, but perhaps it was too forward to do something like that.

“‘Haps. But it smells good.” 

“Yes. The spices are quite fragrant.” I remarked, not knowing what else to say.
