This MKV GR Supra was tastefully built to showcase HKS’s full MK5 Supra portfolio at the 2020 SEMA Show and Tokyo Auto Salon. For a legendary Japanese company like HKS, this build isn’t something that was to be taken lightly. They need to make an interruption and that is what they set out to do when building this car.

If you aren’t familiar with HKS Co. Ltd, they are an aftermarket automotive company based in Fujinomiya, Japan. The company specializes in creating high-performance parts designed for Japanese-made vehicles. HKS stands for Hasegawa, Kitagawa, Sigma. The brand was founded in 1973 by Hiroyuki Hasegawa, who used to work with Yamaha Motor Company, along with his partner Goichi Kitagawa and was financed by Sigma Automotive. The initials of the three were used to create the HKS brand. In today’s world, HKS is considered one of the gold standards for creating some of the highest quality aftermarket performance parts for Japanese Domestic Market vehicles.

The company has its humble beginnings in a small shed at the foot of Mount Fuji, catering to gasoline-powered engines used for farming. In 1974, they were the first company to introduce a turbocharger for commercial vehicles, and it was a hit, especially for those Japanese tuners who wanted more out of their vehicles. The 1,200 was ON me as a prosper and owner of the car. If i put my step dad as first driver (main) and me as an additional driver (second) it comes up as 1,500 for insurance. How is that possible? He has 6 years no claims and held the licence for over 20 years. Never made a claim or had accident. Now if i put my self as FIRST driver and him as SECOND driver, meaning that everything goes on me and i would be getting no claims bonus every year, i get the price at :- 750! Toyota Celebrates 60 Years in the U.S.

When Toyota launched its North American headquarters in a Hollywood, Calif., dealership on October 31, 1957, it was, no doubt, a frightening affair.

Halloween notwithstanding, a Japanese car company making a foray into the U.S. market was a bold move 60 years ago. And its first vehicle, the Toyopet Crown, didn’t turn out to be a screaming success either.

But since those humble beginnings in a 3,000-square-foot, one-time Rambler dealership, Toyota has woven itself into the cultural fabric of America. Sixty years in, it encompasses a presence in every state, including 10 manufacturing facilities (14 in North America), nearly 1,500 Toyota and Lexus dealerships and 136,000 direct, dealer and supplier U.S. employees. And, the company recently unified operations by bringing together its quality engineering, sales, marketing, financial services and corporate functions in one location at a new North America headquarters campus in Plano, Texas.

To commemorate its 60th anniversary, Toyota rededicated a 50th anniversary time capsule originally dedicated at its former Torrance, Calif., headquarters in 2007. The capsule—which includes items like a 2000GT die cast matchbox edition model car, an original key for a 1977 Toyota Hilux truck and a Toyota Formula One racer scale model—will be re-opened on the 100th anniversary in 2057. Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere, who attended the ceremony, said the capsule marks a new chapter for Toyota.

The Metal Toyota’s American journey has been fueled by the cars it makes. In the 1950s that meant the Toyopet Crown and the now-legendary Land Cruiser. Introduced in the ‘60s, the Corolla would go on to become the bestselling nameplate in the world.

The ’70s got sporty with the Celica and the beloved ­Supra, while the ’80s introduced the American public to Camry and 4Runner, among others.

In 1989, Toyota launched its luxury vehicle division, Lexus, in the U.S. with two models, the LS 400 and ES 250.

In the ‘90s, Toyota filled out its lineup with models like the Tacoma, RAV4, Avalon and Sienna, and from Lexus, the GS, LX and RX.

In 2003, Toyota launched Scion to bring in younger customers and to test out revolutionary processes and products. As a result, the xB became an icon for a new millennium.

And, Toyota changed the world by pushing hybrid technology into the American mainstream with the Prius, which surfaced in 1997 and launched in the U.S. in 2000. More than a decade later, the iconic Prius was followed by another alternative fuel vehicle, the hydrogen fuel cell powered Mirai.

Manufacturing, Engineering and Captive Finance The ‘70s were critical to operations. Toyota marked its first U.S. production, signing Atlas Fabricators of Long Beach (later changed to TABC) to make truck beds. Toyota Technical Center, which just celebrated its 40th anniversary in May, opened its first U.S. R&D facility and Calty Design Research opened its doors in Southern California.

Growth continued into the ‘80s with the launch of manufacturing facilities in California and Kentucky.  In addition, Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (now known as Toyota Financial Services), began operations in the U.S. in October 1982.

In the ‘90s and ‘00s, Toyota added vehicle and parts plants in Indiana, West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri and Mississippi. To support the rapid growth, Toyota consolidated its R&D and manufacturing operations under a single company in 2006.

The Future Over the years, Toyota Motor North America has transformed from just a sales company into a mobility company.

In 2016, the Toyota Research Institute launched, leading the way to autonomous vehicles, robotics, vehicle safety and materials science.  In the same year, Toyota Connected was created to use data to personalize the customer driving experience.

What started as a single store in Southern California has evolved into an American institution that continues to bring jobs, mobility and technology to its communities.

America’s original pony car has earned fanfare for its timeless styling, potent V-8 engine, and reasonable pricing. Every year since 2013, the Ford Mustang GT Coupe has won IntelliChoice’s Best Value Performance Car award, a streak that continues in 2020. Porsche irked its ardent fans when it switched the Boxster and Cayman from atmospheric flat-sixes to turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Time behind the wheel proved that two fewer pistons didn’t mean any less mid-engine magic—actually, the 718 might provide even more of it depending on the model you pick. Nonetheless, Porsche appeased the purists by fitting a superb flat-six in the range-topping 718 GT4 and Spyder, which tie for IntelliChoice’s Best Value Premium Performance Car award. Credit for that goes in part to class-best retained value of 63 percent.

2020 BMW Z4 sDrive30i

Although the latest Z4 controversially shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Supra, we’ve found the two vehicles to offer entirely unique driving experiences. The BMW wins the Best Value Premium Convertible Award, thanks partially to its 46 percent retained value and $55,707 five-year running cost. In its IntelliChoice class, the four-cylinder Z4’s closest finisher was actually the BMW 230i convertible.

2020 Porsche 911

Porsche’s infamous options list can take the price of its rear-engine icon into supercar territory, but at least the 911’s performance backs that up. So how is the 911 a good value? It resists depreciation just like it does changes in design. According to IntelliChoice, certain 911 variants can hold up to 65 percent of their value over a five-year period, by far the highest in the Luxury Performance Car class. That helps it earn a fourth consecutive win for Best Overall Value in that class; Porsche also wins Highest Retained Value among Premium Brands. You’ll pay dearly just to use the 911—IntelliChoice predicts total ownership costs well over $90,000—but it’ll still be worth plenty if you decide to sell. And, if you love driving, it’s worth every cent. After all, the 911 was MotorTrend’s 2019 Best Driver’s Car.
