ahem. hi. post-watch Knight here, with a big tw: there is a suicide mention and intense death wishing at the end of this post. you can guess who it's directed towards but if you've already seen the episodes I don't think you'll get it wrong.

Thoughts, explanations, and all that shit i had while writing my latest oneshot

Stand up comedians do NOT make good kidnappers - Robin_The_Robiner - Batman - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]

SO first up the name. Where did it come from? God knows. I started this fic like ages ago, wrote Steph's first section, and then promptly forgot about it for three months only to come back and scribble the rest out. I dont remember how i came up with the name, but i still think its hilarious so,,

Who is Cassowary? This universes Robin, duh! Since Damian was the first, i thought he'd go for a more intimidating bird. These birds have really sharp claws, and leave wounds similar to those of a blade. Huh. Who do we know who is really good with a sword? Exactly 😎

Writing Steph was hard because I don't know her very well, so I may have projected onto her a little bit (hence the excessive death jokes 😅). I hope it came across that Steph is a detective, like Bruce, but that she's doesn't lazer-focus on that stuff like him. Thats why she focuses on describing Junior at first, not the room she's in or the fact she's chained up. She knows these things, but she only brings them up when relevant. What good is wallowing over being chained up when you could be making fun of your kidnapper, huh?

I'm a bit worried that i didn't make it obvious enough that there is time between Steph's and Bruce's sections. Thats why when we finish Steph's third bit, she's shitting on Junior for dressing like the Joker, but then in the final bit, she's aware that it's Tim. The parts aren't happening at the same time, or right after the other. I hope that was obvious, but im not sure.

BRUCE'S BIT!!! I saw a post once saying that Bruce separates his personas very hard, and i really liked that. When he's talking about Batman, it's only referred to as Batman. When he's having more emotional thoughts, it's Bruce. And, of course, when he's dealing with Crystal (who i don't know very well so probably wasn't well written MY BAD YALL), he's Brucie. The guilt is in all of them, though. Fun stuff!

A big part of Stephanie and Bruce's relationship in canon is, from what i can tell, tense because of the way he treated her when he first met her. BUT in this fic, it's a bit lessened because Steph chalks his shittyness to the fact that he recently lost a son. Also, i think in canon a big part of why Bruce refused to get close to Steph was because of how she reminded him of Jason, which obviously isn't a problem in this universe. Bruce and Steph are still tense, but this time she has the eldest kid on her side pretty easily, cuz Damian feels guilt over Tim LOL

The death!! It's not overly explained, but I do have Tim's death all planned out and shit. It's a mix of the Joker Junior scene from Batman Beyond : Return of The Joker, and then also a little bit of canon. Instead of Bruce being out of Gotham, like in the film, it's that they have an argument. Similar to Jason and Garzonas situation, in how Bruce is angry at the thought of his partner killing, but more so using the Boomerang arc from canon (Tim wanting to kill his Dad's murderer)

Junior's mental state is wild. I'm not writing him with any particular mental illness, mostly because I'm not at all knowledgeable enough to portray something correctly. Instead I'm basing him off of Joker Junior's intro scene, and also me during some of my darkest moments! It's not Pit Rage (i don't lie how much the fandom pushes that onto Jason, similar to the Tim-Doesn't-Sleep idea in which it wasn't canon but then it got popular and was made so, i think) and instead just a extremely traumatised 17 year old!

The teaparty scene was put in there because I wanted Tim to have a hobby that he could share with his mom (because god knows everyone hates Janet because they mess up her character and only look at fanon) and that also can be used to show his mental state. Hence, collecting figurines, and playing with them! Yippee! Thanks to my pal Leo over on discord for suggesting this hobby!! (it was originally stuffed animals but I thought Batburger toys would work better)

Damian and Duke both were the first kids, instead of Dick and Barbara. Instead of Batgirl, we have Batkid, and then instead of Oracle, we have Signal. Damian is Shrike, because that is the most common hero name I see for him and I couldn't think of another. I may go back and change it to Nightwing, because I like the meaning of the name, but it would come from Superboy (Jon) instead of Superman in this universe, so maybe it comes later on? Not sure. need to think on that!!

Drake Manor was, in canon, only bought after Jack woke up from the coma. But, i decided to take the fandom route in which the Drakes always lived there, simply because timeline wise it works better for me. Also in canon, Jack doesn't need the wheelchair by the end, but for my fic, he's not out of the coma long enough for that. I also added a fun basement which defo doesn't exist in canon, so just turn a blind eye to that!

If you saw the original post, you'd know that Bruce was supposed to find Steph through a series of taunting clues. I changed my mind though, because I'm not good at clues, mysteries, or cases. So, a gift with the address is sort of dissapointing, but who cares?

Steph's feelings about Tim are sort of iffy. A really popular headcanon is that Jason was Tim's robin, and thats not true. I'm pretty sure Tim just,, didn't care about Jason? Idk exactly how he felt, but whatever. Steph doesn't hate Tim, in this fic, she just sort of hates how he was as Cassowary. Bruce is full of guilt and won't say a bad word about him, but has plenty of criticism for Steph, which leads to a sort of resentment. He was Cassowary though, so there is also some adoration in her heart. Basically, she switches how she feels about him depending on the situation.

Jack and Robin. In this universe, Jack doesn't know Tim is a superhero. Tim does still take a break, but it's to spend time with his dad after he awakens, not because he's threatened. Dana also (unfortunately) isn't around in this fic, so Jack has more time to spend with Tim. It's sort of a win-lose situation though. More time with Tim so they get closer, but without Dana to calm him, Jack's little bouts of fury are stronger (remember how he fucking ripped out a TV??) so their relationship is more strained, which is why Tim does go back to being Cassowary, just for a bit, before his dad dies.

Hints are sprinkled in Steph's bits that tell on Tim's identity. Not many, because I'm really bad at hints and subtlety, but there are a few. Mentions of shock burns (the electrocution duh), Zesti instead of tea (which is Tim's canon favourite drink, not coffee!!), and his wish that Steph stops being a hero.

Tims motivations are a reverse of Jasons canon ones. Jason forgives Bruce for not saving him, but is mad he wasn't avenged. Tim forgives Bruce for not avenging him, but is mad he wasn't saved. Aint that fun? Thats why instead of beating her up, Tim kidnaps Steph for three days to resemble the three weeks he was held captive before he died. Yippee, allegories! (i think that word isn't right, but i can't think of the right one??!! english is HARD)

Hot damn I love this community sometimes

Favorite game is probably 4, 3 is a close one tho (My order from fav to least fav: Pikmin 4, Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pikmin 1, Pikmin 2, Pikmin Bloom (if that counts lol), That One Nintendo Land Pikmin Game, and Hey, Pikmin!) (2 isn't a bad game, it's just not my cup of tea. The music slaps tho)

Yes I have played Hey, Pikmin! and while it's not a good Pikmin game, it's a pretty decent game (You get me? Like, it's a decent game with a pretty good concept, the formula just doesn't work in the Pikmin series.)

I have cried when playing every Pikmin game, some when I was a child. I did cry at both the Pikmin 3, and Pikmin 4 credits. Shut up, it was wonderful dude

I still almost tear up at the Pikmin 3 credits. Dude that shit is sad for some reason idk why

I also did cry at the trailer for Pikmin 3 Deluxe and both of Pikmin 4's. I love this series if you can't tell.

My favorite type is Yellow, if you can't tell

And finally, I have beaten Pikmin 3 so many times on the Wii U, I got so bored that I did a 1 type of fruit a day challenge. I did it. I lived. It was funny as hell. I have made that game beg for mercy and the Plasm Wraith has become my play thing. (I love 3 so much lmao)

Said I'd dump S4 Tang thoughts here a week ago and then I just kinda. didn't. oopsies, but I can start now!!

S4 Spoilers below the cut, you have been warned!!!

AUTHOR'S NOTE OF SORTS AFTER WRITING THIS: WOW IS THIS LONG. I got a little too silly and put too many thoughts down at once oops, prepare to be reading for a good minute you have been warned (twice!!) aughdhsj

STRESS-EATER CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!! YOU AND ME BOTH BUDDY. No wonder he married a cook, wonder if in college everytime Tang was mega stressed about finals or a big deadline coming up (the latter could be true later when he's out of college and had a job too) if pigsy, assuming he had the time, would just make a meal for him. They probably wouldn't be able to spend much time together in that situation so making him something when he knows Tang is stressed seems like a realistic thing for Pigsy to do in order to subtly show he's there for support when need be. Tang pays that kindness forward by actually paying his tab for once coughs

"hmmmm, if I wasn't so cool and relaxed all the time I'd be reeeeeally worried about the consequences of this" (S1)

"I know my issue is my self confidence" (S4)

(Can't find a way to make it a gif) Tang: so ""relaxed"" in his current situation that he is shaking hard enough to vibrate in place, coupled with the look of completely calm and collected and ""coolness"". (S4)

Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night chan- gets shot

ACTUALLY THo S4 fleshed him out as a character so much, especially when we compare him to how he started all the way back in S1. Beforehand in earlier seasons everything was mostly stable for him. Same places, same people, consistent comfort, it gave him some sense of security that could have made his "calm and relaxed" demeanor viable back then. But now that everythings been thrown up and ruined by powers out of Tang's control, his bubble of safety no longer stands. We begin to see it in season 3 with lady bone demon's attacks + macaque's continued interference. Tang seems a lot more on edge near the latter half of season 3 then he had been all of the rest of the show and there's definitely WAY more panic present as one bad thing after another unfolds, notably when he is quite literally moved to tears as he's forced to forge the samadhi fire. It does kind of consistently crop up during other prior conflicts too but much more mildly and on a more temporary scale. Now, seemingly not long after the lbd incident as mk evidently still hasn't pushed past lbd all that well, his entire framework of stability is practically smashed into pieces. He's stuck in a scroll, he loses track of all of his friends for a while, there is no comfortable safe space for him anymore(a book can probably only realistically tell you so much about a setting, probably not enough to evoke the same familiarity that his house or pigsy's shop does), he literally almost gets eaten, there's ANOTHER massively powerful divine being threatening the safety of his loved ones along with his own, and on top of it all he can't get his powers (which are evidently in DIRE need right now) to work half the time. He had built a dependency on the routine of mundane life beforehand and S4 completely shatters that routine and subsequent stability. It's no wonder why we begin to see him crack, it make sense why we're just now seeing the actual depths of his lack of confidence and his anxiety. This has always been a problem more likely than not, he was able to cope before, or at least hide it, but he can't now. His inability to use his powers properly inevitably worsens the problem. He needs to use his powers but he cant. He needs to be useful, he has to be, but he just can't no matter how long or how hard he tries. Every odd is against him, it's getting to him and it shows. I love how lmk doesn't try to hero-speech it's way out of every character's doubts. I love how they let him break down several times throughout season 4, I love how they let him show emotional weakness not as a plot obstacle that can be ✨✨completely overcome with the power of believing in yourself!! And friends!!! And flashy magic!!! Yayyyyy!!!✨✨ but as a fundamental part of Tang that he just has to work around and deal with it. They obviously can't get too in depth into it (and probably never will) because a. This is a kid show made by Lego, and b. Because he's, y'know, not the main character, but the attention they did bring to it is nice.

I have. Accidently written a paragraph. Oops. uhhhh tldr: They did a good job portraying Tang's internal struggles through S4 while not invalidating his character and behavior from previous seasons. When you kick the rug out from someone's feet and then throw them off a 400ft cliff into a pit full of spikes they're going to be at least a little bit terrified out of their mind and are probably going to understandably show weakness somewhere along the way, I'm glad Lego takes a moment to explore that with Tang at least a little bit.

Mentioned this earlier on twt but the death grip he maintains on his staff when he gets really scared is a nice touch. He has a history throughout all 4 seasons of latching onto objects or people when he's distressed, a small but fun character detail!

In line with what I ranted on about for an entire essay earlier- explicit mention of a meltdown! It's quick and short but the fact that they called it a meltdown at all is impressive, this is the first time I can remember a show calling one as such. A meltdown in response to a seeming extended lack of security and a disconnect between Tang and what's going on around him is realistic too, I think at least. The scene right after this when the gang (mostly sandy) does their best to bring Tang back down to earth for a moment was nice, they're such a supportive friend group I love this little found family

tuesday afternoon

yayyyy tuesday

listening: haken concert was SO good. incredibly fun. i brought two friends with me and one of them said that he wasn't expecting a metal/rock prog band to be so "sploinky barbershop quartet" re: songs like cockroach king, lol. orchestra concert was sunday and it was good! face did hurt a lot after because this is a youth orchestra that i volunteer with so naturally we need a 90 min rehearsal before the actual concert. pain. but the kids did good. they did a mozart oboe concerto and the soloist was incredible. but also on my own i've been listening to borodin symphony no 1 and 2.

reading: finished volume 2 of mdzs! xue yang is such a loser nightmare failboy. we've entered jin guangyao zone which fucks severely.

watching: dunmesh and klk, again. i love the way dunmeshi is doing backgrounds, they're so detail and delightful to look at. i've also started watching comrade detective with a friend and it's VERY funny. goofy communist buddy cop parody bullshit. channing tatum is in the intro for some reason that i cannot ascertain but makes me laugh anyways.

playing: ran and played dnd! mtg! i've decided i want to put together a mono green deck so if anyone has commander recommendations lmk.

making: yippee making!

trimmed those little teacup experiments, i don't think the shrinkage will be too bad but we'll see. they all have mismatched feet now oops

started a seder plate for passover! i think at this rate it will be done before the holiday which is exciting. i'm going to do it red with a pomegranate motif. this is the bottom for now, the top is blank and boring so no pic for now.

pre-bisque work needs to be done on these, the big one is a flower pot for my mom that i'm covering in purple slip and then carving a tree into i think

finished the sgraffito on this guy, my roommate accidentally knocked a divot in the edge of it at the end of last year so i mirrored it on the other side of the bowl and incorporated it into a design!

some kiln stuff came out too!

this bowl was supposed to be a deep, dark green on the outside but i forgot that this kiln is cone 5, not 6! so surprise color but i still like it

and finally, someone abandoned this little guy so i slapped some glaze on him and took him home. i have a matching cat one that's still kilning. look how precious. i want to put air plants in him. taking name suggestions

eating: spicy butternut squash pasta with spinach. we made so much of this. i think we finally finished the last of the leftovers today. too many steps for me to do on a tuesday and i have a Moment about it but she took over and it is very good. we used cavatappi which is objectively one of the best pasta shapes out there.

harissa chicken thighs with shallots. yum! all i really gotta say about it. used gochujang because we don't have harissa and it still slammed.

deb smittenkitchen soy glazed chicken. 10/10. goes with Everything. i had it with brussel sprouts over rice, then the next day with that pasta leftovers, and then again yesterday with mac n cheese. took like 10 minutes and slams.

misc: busy but in the swing of things! gym time has REALLY fallen by the wayside which is not great for my mental health so i'm working on trying to incorporate that back in where i can. but otherwise i am doin pretty good!

ok so like. last week i got to play inscryption for myself using my uncle's ps4 YIPPEE

im just gonna ramble about my experience playing it here becuz why not :3 this is a very long post with large walls of text so be warned! only read if you wanna hear my dumb rambling :D (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

ACT 1:

i spent. way too much time on act 1..

1st play of act 1 went on as usual, ya beat the prospector then ya get to the angler too fast too soon then you fuckinf die yadda yadda yadda

so i think the game expects you to like beat the angler on the 2nd play of act 1. and i didnt. i made total misplays (becuz im a silly idiot :D) so i died to the angler and i had to restart.. i mean at least i wont have to restart at the trapper when leshy decides to pull out 8 fucking bears :3

ok my 3rd play of act 1! wow!! i should be able to get to the trapper now right? :0 no. i died at the angler. again. GRAHH

4th play. i think this was my best play yet becuz i got lucky to have squirrels with the 3 blood sigil and i was ZOOMIN thru the bosses! i made it to the trapper so i thought i'd be able to finally win! until i accidentally. switched the squirrel totem head. with a different one. which means. squirrels did not have 3 blood anymore. so yeah i died to the trapper :3

5TH PLAY RAHHH at this point i just wanted to get act 1 over with.. i realised my items existed (i am the world's dumbest inscryption player) so i just stole one of the angler's sharks to get it over with quickly. i made it to the trapper again and WON!!

FINALLY MADE IT TO LESHY'S FIGHT! i mean i didn't rlly have a good deck so i was pretty sure i was gonna die.. and i did :] on the first phase. so back to the start for me! at least i got to listen to leshy's amazing theme..

6th play! it went on as usual except i was stuck at the trapper and had to die and restart :D i'm such a good player! /s i'm pretty sure the scrybes who were still stuck in their animal forms are disappointed in me LMAO

7th play. i'd say i had a good deck going on for me so i managed to make it all the way back to leshy's fight! i was surprised it didn't take me that long to get back honestly..

LESHY'S FIGHT! again! :D my poisonous 2/2 mantis god quickly pulled me through the first phase but sadly it had to die from the prospector turning it into gold D: (RIP mantis god..) i managed to get through the 2nd phase pretty easily becuz i had some strong cards already on the board! then it's finally time.. FOR THE MOON!! which i immediately killed with my poisonous cat :3 WOO ACT 2 BABY!!

ACT 2:

YIPPEE!!

i finally made it to act 2! i was shaking from excitement seeing all the scrybes in the intro becuz the fixation on this game is real :3 (my family thought i was weird lol)

spent like. 10 minutes deciding which deck i wanted to use.. i ended up going with leshy's becuz i didn't trust myself with using any new cards yet :D

i realised that it may have been a dumb move becuz i forgor that act 2 didn't have the option to give you squirrels n it would just give it to you randomly.. so it took me a while to get going :']

once i had more cards i had a good thing going for my deck! defeated the prospector and angler but the trapper took a few attempts.. then i defeated leshy! :D yippee!!

went to defeat grimora next becuz skeletons :3 and becuz i wanted the tomb robber card so i can use tomb robber and field mice for.. THE RAT DECK. basically you use tomb robber to summon 2 skeletons, sacrifice them to put field mice on the board and repeat until the board is full of field mice! THE RAT DECK!! (if you know specifically who i got that from then ily /p)

magnifuck was next and defeating the students was relatively easy thanks to THE RAT DECK but i completely forgor magnificus's gimmick was that he replaces your sigils so uh.. i was screwed on his fight for a while.. but i managed to defeat him anyways so fuck you magnificus :3

i saved enough foils to get ourobouros so i could do the silly OUROBOUROS GRINDING. :D i grinded my ourobouros up to 30/30 using tomb robber with the training dummy! (tomb robber is literally carrying me lmao)

P03! the silly robor!! surprisingly didnt take me that long to figure out the puzzles and the inspector and melter were defeated easily :D dredger finds the OLD_DATA then it is time to defeat P03!

P03 had me stuck for a moment with the whole convenyor belt thing until my ourobouros pulled up and i quickly turned things around :D but then i also forgor it scans your best card and copies them on it's side of the board so uh.. yeah the ourobouros grinding was coming back to bite me :skull: THANKFULLY i survived the ourobouros apocalypse and defeated P03!

the act 2 finale goes on as usual, P03 pulls out the OLD_DATA and funni robor goes spin while the whole game glitches the hell out :D (my family thought i actually did something to break the game LMAO) TIME FOR ACT 3!!

ACT 3:

funni robor. sadly didn't get to finish this act becuz i had to go home D:

YIPPEE botopia!! i was pretty excited for this act becuz i could see my beloved archivist :3

i uh.. i struggled literally the FIRST battle of P03's act and even when i was done with it, i lost on the second battle and i was stuck on the first and second battles of act 3 for a while.. fuck you P03 >:(

i only made it until the first checkpoint before i had to stop and go back home :[ no archivist..

that's about what i remember! it was painful but i had fun and i love this game sm! thank you for reading the whole thing if you did, i hope my dumb rambling wasn't too annoying :D

backstory stufff

I do not know when she arrived at caml but I do know that she only stays for the summer. Although she is very much a people person, sometimes being the voice of reason or being a therapist to traumatized demigods like the rest of her siblings is exhausting. Sometimes she'll cope with that by letting herself be reckless and not have to worry about things. Other times she'll just lay in her cabin for a while to soak in the quiet, or rather, what little quiet there is at camp. One day after Leo managed to basically undo the reprogramming Glykera had done to her, he went to Melissa to try and see if she would be able to help Glykera despite her being an automaton (see the oc bellow this one). She wasn't able to use her powers as well to help Glykera since she is an automaton, she was able to help her deal with these new emotions and find better coping skills.
