We're in the Big Final Confrontation and so far my man has done fuck all except cuddle in LWJ's lap while everyone else is losing their shit and when he DOES finally do something he summons an army of naked, writhing, moaning sex corpses that even his allies just desperately wish Were Not There. stupendous, no notes

one thing i really like is how they obviously went out of their way to match asahi's speech patterns with his and yotsuyu's father. the guy is a minor NPC who barely has any lines, and yet despite him being an old man who doesn't particularly look like asahi he uses the exact same inflections and tone of voice. you've already been listening to asahi being a creep this whole time, and then suddenly if you're paying attention it becomes so clear where he got it from. he really does just sound exactly like his dad.

(and it makes absolutely everything about the situation that much more skin-crawling, considering what their father is actually saying in the scene where that stands out the most.)

again, minor NPC with very little screentime; it would have been easy for them to just give him A Voice and be done with it, and instead they took the opportunity to imply volumes about asahi and his dynamic with his family in such an effective, understated way. anyway the naeuri siblings are ruining my life

The Lion Guard Soundtrack: Nenda Salama

One of the biggest TLG related mysteries to me was how several scores and tracks that were absolutely amazing... never made it into the soundtrack. This was due to the officially released soundtrack for the series being discontinued before its first season was halfway finished, despite the show already having been renewed for a second and 3rd season around that time. One of them in particular being the biggest object of my curiosity.

In August of 2023, I emailed Christopher Willis, the composer for The Lion Guard's soundtrack asking about the song sung by the show's chorus that plays in Battle for the Pride Lands when the Lion Guard leave the Pride Lands to find the Tree of Life, and is reprised in Return to the Pride Lands when they return after the events of Simba's Pride to re-unite with their families and friends.

To my surprise, he gave me an answer. The official title of that song is called "Nenda Salama" a saying of farewell in Swahilli (i.e. bon voyage, or go safe in rough translation). The lyrics are entirely in Swahilli and I have no frame of reference as to what the lyrics are so I can't translate them (any Swahilli speakers that find this, it'd be helpful for a translator thank you), but still, this was really good. To make things better, he uploaded it on his Soundcloud to stream for free in the public domain.

I myself recorded the music on my computer and combined with with an mp3 of a vocal-remover edit via MVSEP to make an edit of both this song and its reprise as it appears within the canon. I uploaded it to my YouTube -be subject to 3 hours of editing (no really) and enjoy yet another piece of music from this brilliant series.

Do you think 10 would have had as big a connection to Rose without the foundation of Nine's background/relationship with her? I think they still would have been close, but I don't know if it would have gone AS fast or been AS open without Nine. just because he did love Rose so much and I think a lot of that carried over into 10. I mean 10's looks came about specifically because of how 9 thought she'd want her S/O to look!

Oooooooh excellent question. Short answer? No, at least not right away—but their chemistry is just so electric that I feel like it would have gotten there, given more time. (Also I’M SCREAMING I knew people said that but I didn’t realize it was actually CANON AAAAAUUGGHH)

Long answer, it raises the question if Ten would even be the same person without Nine and Rose’s relationship. This is kind of dipping into my own still-forming opinion on how the Doctor’s regenerations work (as I understand it there are differing opinions on how it works in-canon anyway), but Ten was created by Nine sacrificing himself for Rose—Ten is almost quite literally a manifestation of Nine’s love for her, which is why Rose is integral to Ten’s identity, even when she’s lost. It’s her name that keeps him fighting. It’s her influence that informs his decisions, even when she’s not there. She’s his center of gravity.

Honestly? I’m not sure Ten would even be Ten without meeting Rose, even disregarding the fact that he probably wouldn’t have gone through all that character development and healing without her (or at least in the same way). Especially given what you mentioned about his appearance, I like to think that Ten is Nine’s love for Rose blasted through a megaphone. Tenrose without that foundation just doesn’t work.
