Dear Gus & Magnus,

I wrote my second script in two days at a table surrounded by people waiting on it, which added to the pressure, but I got it done and I think it's going to turn out to be a good video. I gave myself the role of kidnapping victim. Between shooting this entire video, filming the last scene of the video we started yesterday, and having to work around the Harlingen office Block Party, we didn't get out of there until 1am. I was in bed by 1:30, with my alarm set for 4:45am to go catch my flight home. A long day, but a fun day. I'm ready to be home.

This past weekend…

My film friends and I planned a movie murder in my kitchen. I found a lump on my breast and called my doctor. I got in a fight with my parents. I took my mom out to breakfast. I got two new books.

This weekend, so joyous and momentous, was plagued with my personal seeds of doubt. No clue if the blood would wash out, or if me and my parents could find common ground, or if this lump is cancerous, or if we’d even be able to continue this shoot despite the rain.

We prevailed. The blood washed out. My family all apologized. My doctor is sending me to get a mammogram and ultrasound. The rain shoot went fantastic and was lovely and moody.

I cant wait for Thursday and Friday, back to back days of rest. But hey, in the hospital waiting room, I’ll at least have something nice to read.

Thrilling First Shoot Day: Unveiling The Creativity

Following our successful discourse last week, my group mates and I dug into the exciting beginnings of our creative production. First, fast forward to a few glitches and failures in our planned meet-ups, when we eventually took the plunge into shooting the images and films required for our project.

After Prof. Lloren's previous meeting, we were entrusted with providing a one-minute example of our social commentary on gender problems. The task sounded reasonable, particularly while we were still getting to know each other. Nevertheless, our ambition to produce something worthwhile kept us going.

With excitement, we began on a campus promenade to record real moments of queer people going about their regular lives. These candid passages, we hoped, would add depth and sincerity to our presentation. As we were looking for ideas, my thoughts strayed to a great friend of mine, Keira. She was the exact personification of the message we intended to communicate and, I felt, a perfect lead to our one-minute video.

On the day of the shoot, however, there was a little snag. One of our team members had come from another obligation and joined us later. We ended up having to make a modest adjustment to our original strategy because of her new perspectives and thoughts. Fortunately, these modifications had little influence on our part in gender and social criticism. We immediately realized that flexibility was essential to the creative process.

Eventually, I met Keira, a second-year BA - Communication student, and described our project's aim. She gladly volunteered to offer up her time and lend her expertise to help us materialize our one-minute presentation. With her on board, we were now ready to bring our idea to reality.

On the day of the shoot, everything worked out well, much to our joy. What we thought would be a difficult task ended up being an exciting and joyful experience. It was encouraging to witness how our initial uneasiness had given way to a feeling of bonding and to feel the group's synergy.

But the real surprise occurred when I found myself editing the video on the same day. The enthusiasm was palpable as I prepared to deliver our work to the other members of the group. "The Discourse" had shown us that creative pursuits might convert even the most stressful times into chances for development and creativity.

In my next post, I'll discuss the amazing finalization of our one-minute presentation and the things that we acquired along the way. Keep an eye out as we strive to explore and develop using our artistic adventure!
