Irene Dunne (The Awful Truth, Theodora Goes Wild, My Favorite Wife)— The first time I saw her in Theodora Goes Wild she struck me dumb because who is that BEAUTIFUL woman being so funny and clever??? She was primarily known as a dramatic actress (and believe you me those are muscles she can FLEX, Penny Serenade hurts my feelings) but she’s also one of the funniest screwball leading ladies I’ve ever seen. Her films with Cary Grant are especially charming, but all her characters have this knowing quality in the heart of them that’s so intriguing, and her screwball girlies have this freedom to go after what (or who) they want that is delightfully subversive. I want to be her, I want to fuck her, I want to see every movie she’s ever done, she is a brilliant actress and she is my dream woman.
Devika Rani (Achhut Kanya)—She was grandniece of Rabindranath Tagore (laureate). She was sent to boarding school in England at age nine and grew up there. After completing her schooling, she joined the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the Royal Academy of Music to study acting and music, at a time when aristocratic women did not enter showbiz. She studied filmmaking in Berlin. It is well known that she underwent training at the UFA Studios in the art and technique of acting under Eric Pommer, and other aspects of film production including costume and set designing and make-up, under eminent directors like GW Pabst, Fritz Lang, Emil Jannings and Josef von Sternberg. She is also reported to have worked with Marlene Dietrich. She had a multi-faceted personality and took on many responsibilities of film production at Bombay Talkies, a studio that she co-founded with Himanshu Rai in Mumbai in 1934. She often took care of hair and make up, supervised set design and editing, scouted for new talent and mentored them. She was the face of Bombay Talkies, and also the reason behind the political and financial backing the studio received, at a time when even women from red light districts refused to work as actresses. She was the first recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, when it was instituted in 1970.
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Irene Dunne:
irene excelled in screwball comedies, musicals, melodramas...she could do it all. she often played elegant society ladies and brought sparkling charisma and poise for days to anything she did, and sang like an angel (she pursued opera before going into moves), her rendition of jerome kern's "smoke gets in your eyes" in roberta moves me to tears every time.
youtube
A fantastic star of screwball comedies Irene Dunne is an undersung hot woman in my opinion. She rose to fame in her roles alongside the likes of Cary Grant, and was usually the funniest person in her movies. And the hottest.
She's snarky, and quick, prone to rolling her eyes, and eager to trip her counterparts up. In short, she was a devilish, charming, problem of a woman in many of her films, the pinnacle of hotness.
She’s so gorgeous and funny and her way of acting is so fresh and timeless! She’s the complete package of hotness to me with her talents, humor, and, of course, hot looks. I named my left tit after her to hopefully attract even a smidgen of her beauty and charm.
Devika Rani:
Achhut Kanya (1936) is the only one of hers I've seen but hot DAMN

DAY 5665
Jalsa, Mumbai Aug 21/22, 2023 Mon/Tue 1:43 AM
In grace and in gratitude for the affection and love for the PR exercises conducted by the ever efficient Ef .. you have made me very proud and very grateful for all that you have done individually for the film
GHOOMER ..
a film that has resounded with one and all .. in compliments and extraordinary accolades for its content and its performances .. very rarely does one get to see the merits of a film expressed without any criticism .. just incredible affection for the story direction and the play out by the artists ..
the messages of those that have encountered the glory of the film have been so so admirable and filled with a terminology that has not been seen or read before ..
'the best actor of this generation' to the 'most underrated genius ' have been some of the millions that have been sent to me .. and I regret of course at not being able to respond to each of them individually , but you know as well as I do that they have been read noticed and hugely appreciated ..
for a Father it is the most cherished moment to be in the company of them that shower their praise for the Son .. and to be given the emotion that rides above every other emotion ..
Abhishek has ever kept his humble self about .. appreciated the love and praise , but also kept his balance about .. in an era when every effort is made to be visible at all places, he has allowed his work to speak rather than scream from roof-tops and alleyways ..
man shall never be able to add to his dignity by standing on it .. no one but no one can make you feel inferior without your consent ..
one is often referred to as the 'chip of the old 'block' .. gone is that time and feel .. its actually the 'block' itself ..
hurray !
jai ho !!
जय हो जय हो जय हो !!

I met this man at a bar recently and he was absolutely gorgeous. He’s here shooting a movie but otherwise wasn’t into me at all. Could you possibly make me into an even bigger hotter more muscular movie star so that he’ll notice me and want to get together?
Well… You're not particularly good-looking or charismatic now… No wonder the first contact wasn't particularly successful. But what do you expect with your baggy sweatshirt and ill-fitting jeans?
After the nasty rebuff you received, you're sitting alone at the bar again, looking into your… Whiskey? When did you order a whiskey? You notice that two girls in the corner keep looking over at you, whispering, looking and giggling. One of them gets up and walks towards you. You straighten up, smile at her, she turns bright red, giggles and asks if she can take a selfie. She has an adorable Indian accent. And you reply in Hindi that it would be a pleasure and an honor. She takes the selfie, gives you a kiss on the cheek and runs to her friend, giggling. You finish your whiskey and wave the bartender over to pay. He replies that it would have been an honor to serve you and that the drink is on the house, of course. And a second one if you like. Your crush looks at you questioningly. You accept the second whiskey with thanks and toast the actor. He toasts back and frantically thinks about how he knows you.
It's getting warm in the bar. You unbutton two buttons on your shiny shirt. Like the trousers, which are made of a similar fabric, the shirt fits like it was painted on your body. The bar is getting fuller. Of course, many guests are whispering about your crush. But even more stare at you, want a selfie or ask for your autograph. Many of your fans are glowing-eyed and black-haired. Lots of Indians. Your crush asks you if you're an actor too. The Indian beauty who is taking a selfie with you, pretending to give you a kiss, almost collapses with laughter. She opens Instagram and shows your crush an Instagram account. Your Instagram account. 58 million followers! He turns pale. Very pale. Your skin turns a deep brown. You answer his question with a heavy Indian accent. Yes, you're an actor too. Bollywood is productive. And you are one of the biggest stars. Four to six films a year. And each one is a box office hit. Your fitness videos? Top sellers! Your own fashion collection? A must-have in Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. And now also in London and Berlin. You smile your hundred-million-rupee smile. It leaves him speechless. But the bulge in his pants speaks its own language…
For the two young men who ask for a selfie, you throw yourself back into the cool macho pose that half of India loves you for. You give the bartender a 100-pound note as a tip, put on your leather coat and tell your colleague "Savoy, Charlie Chaplin Suite. Ask for John Rolfe". You don't need to look around to know that he's rushing to pay and grab his jacket. Tonight will be a close exchange between Hollywood and Bollywood.

In the true story, BAFTA winner Scott, also coming off rave reviews for All Of Us Strangers, is set to play Group Captain James Stagg, the Allies’ Chief Meteorologist whose job it was to inform Supreme Commander General Eisenhower of weather conditions that would make-or-break their Normandy invasion. The decision-making was critical in the fate of the war and the course of history.
Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai) will direct the ticking-clock thriller, which is due to start shooting in the UK this September. Additional casting is underway, with Studiocanal handling world sales.
Olivier award-winner David Haig and Maras wrote the screenplay based on Haig’s critically lauded play, which ran in London’s West End before going on to be performed for the late Queen Elizabeth II and world leaders to mark the D-Day 75th anniversary in 2019. The official synopsis reads: “In the seventy two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element—the British weather. Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.” Haig’s play explores the personal and military stresses on Stagg and how tensions grew between the teams with different weather forecasts for the date of the proposed D-Day. The film will concentrate on the pressure-cooker of the decision-making but also capture the scale of the landings. Studiocanal previously had commercial and critical success with WWII story The Imitation Game while Working Title similarly scored box office and Oscar recognition with WWII film Darkest Hour.

'EXCLUSIVE: Focus Features has snapped up U.S. rights to Working Title and Studiocanal’s WWII drama-thriller Pressure, about the build-up to the historic Normandy Landings.
The multi-million dollar deal includes a strong theatrical commitment, we understand, with Studiocanal continuing sales this week at the AFM. The European studio will handle the movie’s release in its territories...
Cameras are still rolling in the UK on Pressure, which stars Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina and Damian Lewis.

The complex decision-making was critical in the fate of WWII and the course of history.

Last year Tampa Museum of Art installed work by fashion designer Naeem Khan, including the two pieces above, Floating Flowers Fuchsia and Gold and Floating Flowers Pink and Silver.
From the museum about the work-
As part of its ongoing exhibition series exploring the intersection of art and fashion, the Tampa Museum of Art presents a series of paintings by globally renowned fashion designer Naeem Khan. Khan works independently, as well collaboratively with artist Stanley Casselman as the collective KACE, to create large-scale works inspired by his ongoing exploration of flora, light, and color. Five monumental works, comprised of paint and sequins represent Khan’s inaugural museum exhibition.
The Khan Family, steeped in the tradition of fashion and textiles for over 100 years, is renowned for their atelier in Mumbai and their luxurious couture worn by luminaries and India’s royalty. Khan arrived in New York at the age of 17, travelling to the United States with his father. A business appointment with Halston changed the course of his life as the famed designer decided on the spot that Khan would be his protégé. With Halston as his mentor, Khan became immersed in Manhattan’s art and social circles. From the atelier to Studio 54 and Andy Warhol’s Factory, Khan emerged as a designer at a pivotal moment in the 1970s where the lines between art, fashion, music, film, and celebrity were often blurred, further signifying New York City as the epicenter of creativity.
While working with Halston, Khan met Andy Warhol who frequently collaborated with Halston on his projects. Khan participated in their collaborations by drawing the flowers for their designs, specifically poppies. Warhol, like Halston, took Khan under his wing and once told the young designer, “You shouldn’t hold your pencil that way. Let me show you how to draw.” Flowers, inspired by his work and friendship with Warhol as well as the flora in his home country of India, anchor Khan’s visual language. In 2020, painter Stanley Casselman introduced himself to Khan at one of his fashion shows and was immediately struck by the beauty and power of the designer’s work. Casselman observed that Khan’s designs could be translated into painting. Conversations lead to collaboration and today the two artists work both individually and together under the name KACE. Works, such as Jardin Chrome and Jardin d’Or, feature Khan’s elaborate sequined blooms in concert with Casselman’s gestural paint strokes. The compositions reveal the signature elements of each artists’ practice. Here, Khan’s ornate craftsmanship and Casselman’s abstract mark making unite in dazzling effect.
Khan’s solo works, Floating Flowers Pink and Silver and Floating Flowers Fuchsia and Gold, nod to his familial history with fabric, color, composition, and texture while pushing the boundaries of contemporary painting. Each flower is comprised of hundreds of sequins and beads. Delicately sewn onto silkscreen material, Khan suspends the panels one over the other, creating a sculptural quality to the paintings. Fabricated in a range of petal formations and size, Khan’s blossoms both capture and reflect light. As if suspended in space, the flowers come to life, symbolizing Khan’s creative past and his burgeoning artistic future.

Can you believe that we thought the MS press tour would be MA showing up in different Dior outfits but and it's just them in the MS shirts every single day.
Strategical I can understand why they did it (reaching out to regular folk(especially to an older audience), promo more adapted to the locals in smaller provinces, more focus on the actors and the movie vs fashion, economical in the wardrobe perspective) but I am not sure why they couldn't just style them in the shirts differently in each stop or just let the actors wear their own clothes but that are from a budget friendly price point if they don't want to appear too flashy...like their pictures from each event are so boring and you can't differentiate one event to the next which likely results in less press for them as for the press they all look like the same day making the picture basically worthless after the first day.
putting these together 💖
A couple of things I randomly found out (more like realized) in the past couple of weeks:
Bangkok has a population of 10.7M people (for reference, New York which is the densest city by population in the US has 8.5M people. Of major Asian countries, Shanghai is 26M, Mumbai is 20.6M, Manila is 13.4M, Tokyo is 14M, Seoul is 9.8M, and HCMC is 9M people.
Thailand has a population of 71.6M people, which means the city of Bangkok itself makes up 15% of the country's population. The only city similar on the list is SK with 51.7M, or 16% of the country's population. (I do want to note Seoul is much smaller in surface area than Bangkok, which does mean Seoul is also denser)
SK is approximately 100,032sqkm. Thailand is, however, 513,120sqkm. Both of the cities are marginal in size compared to their countries' total surface area, so looking at non capital city surface area, BOC has to promote in 5x large of a space compared to if a Korean company were to do the same with their film.
I mean BOC going out and doing this kind of promo in these less urban regions is losing money for them, even if it's in terms of cost-benefit analysis of time itself. But I think overall the project is a labor of love for Mile and Apo, especially. And as Apo said, the way to earn money as an actor is not through working as an actor, but sponsorships and promoting brands.
Of course they don't want it to be a total sunken cost and for people to see this movie, but they made this movie for the pride of Thailand, not just for people living in Bangkok. I think getting to see glamorous movie stars you can see on the big screen in your town is enough, they don't need to be wearing weird, inaccessible Dior clothing. I guess maybe they just feel it would be more fair if all these cities got the same experience. Even if it's boring for us, it's probably each town's local newspaper reporting on their arrival and promotion as a pretty big deal to the region. I even saw some Thai fans organizing to try to sponsor tickets for helping get more locals into these shows because they recognize that 220 thb (~$6), the cost of a movie ticket, might be a lot for some of these families.
And for their inter fans, it's also education about these other cities in Thailand and bringing in business to local store owners from local fans who are following them on their journey.
I don't want to be too down about it, and it doesn't bother me really they aren't dressing differently between different stops... we've gotten so many amazing outfits from their Man Suang press tour already. Just like it doesn't really bother me that them doing this kind of promo isn't going to generate a huge amount of revenue for them. Some things money can't buy, and pride is one of them.
#the other would be values#[redacted] can't relate#man suang promo#they tried to buy my pride#but that just ain't up for sale

Remembering Nalini Jaywant, one of Hindi cinema's most versatile and beautiful actresses of yesteryears, on her 98th birth anniversary today (18/02/1926). Blessed with an extraordinarily serene face, as innocent as a cherub's, Nalini Jaywant was a huge star in the early fifties. Along with Suraiya, Nargis, Madhubala and Meena Kumari, she was right at the top. Making her debut in the 1941 film ‘Bahen', Nalini Jaywant was first noted in the 1948 hit, ‘Anokha Pyaar', a love triangle that also featured Dilip Kumar and Nargis. She had to die in the end and there was a not a dry eye among the audience. Her first major hit was ‘Samadhi' with Ashok Kumar, a pairing which lasted for 12 more films. It was also remembered for the jazzy number, ‘Gore Gore O Baanke Chhore'. Among her other successful movies with Ashok Kumar, were ‘Sangram', ‘Nau Bahar,' ‘Kafila', ‘Mr X' and ‘Naaz' which was shot mostly in Egypt. The star was much in demand for her versatility, which she exhibited in light, romantic films with an entertaining music score such as ‘Munimji,' ‘Hum Sab Chor Hain', ‘Naujawan' and ‘Jadoo'. Mo wonder, she was accorded the No 1 female star status in 1954 and a 1950 Filmfare poll judged her as the ‘Most beautiful star of the Year.' ‘Kala Pani' fetched her a Filmfare Award. Nalini appeared in around 60 films, ‘Bombay Race Course' -released in 1956- was her last as heroine. Though Nalini made a comeback in 1983 in ‘Nastik' as hero Amitabh Bachchan's mother, later she simply disappeared from the movie scene, the media and public glare. In the end, her long years of film stardom did not matter, and no one seemed to care. On 20, December 2010, Nalini Jayawant died of a heart attack, alone and forgotten in a small bungalow in Mumbai's Chembur suburb, where she had lived in seclusion for more than two decades.

★ Salman Khan trains like a jawan for 'Bull'!
Before stepping into Brigadier Bulsara’s shoes for Bull in February, Khan to undergo intensive training with paramilitary forces; drama chronicles India’s 1988 Operation Cactus that thwarted the Maldives coup
-Jan 1, 2024
In 2024, Salman Khan fans will miss seeing him on the big screen. Behind the scenes, however, it will be a busy year for the superstar who is set to kick off the shoot of Bull—his first collaboration with filmmaker Karan Johar after the cameo in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)—in mid-February. In Vishnu Varadhan’s directorial venture, Khan will play Brigadier Farukh Bulsara, who led Operation Cactus in 1988 in the Maldives. While the team conducted the mahurat shot in Mumbai on December 29 (Spreading positivity, Dec 30), we hear the actor will undergo extensive physical prep, even training with paramilitary forces, before he steps into the shoes of the Armed Forces officer.
January promises to be gruelling for Khan, who will work towards attaining a lean frame, in keeping with Brigadier Bulsara’s look. A source tells mid-day, “Right at the start, Vishnu Varadhan was sure that the actor would have to create a look distinct from his larger-than-life on-screen persona. He will sport a relatively leaner physique. It was also decided that he will train with the paramilitary forces in Mumbai. That will not only aid his physical transformation, but also help him get in the mindset required to pull off the character.” On the cards is a diverse range of exercises that is adopted by the paramilitary troops to address the multifaceted demands of their roles. The source adds, “His routine will include cardiovascular exercises like running and swimming, strength training as well as high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and circuit training. He will also be familiarised with obstacle course navigation that sharpens coordination and adaptability, and tactical drills.”
Bull will offer a retelling of Operation Cactus wherein the Indian Armed Forces, on November 3, 1988, assisted the Maldives in reclaiming control following a coup attempt led by businessman Abdullah Luthufi and the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE). The Indian forces efficiently neutralised the mercenaries and restored the control to President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s government within hours.
While the screen adaptation was originally imagined as a Shahid Kapoor offering under a different banner, Johar and the Shershaah (2021) director are now bringing the story to celluloid. The director is expected to begin table-reads with the cast by January-end. “The rest of the cast is currently being finalised. The film is about a leader and his camaraderie with his troops, so bonding between the cast is key to the film’s making. The cast will have multiple table reads and workshops. The actors, who will comprise Salman’s on-screen troop, will also train with paramilitary experts,” adds the source. A chunk of the drama will be shot at Film City in Goregaon and Mehboob Studios in Bandra. Khan has apparently allotted bulk dates till August.
