One big example of how filler is useful (when it is good and not just wasting everyone time) is 90 Sailor Moon Anime.
Those episodes of monsters of the week take their time to explore each sailor, their personalities, relationships with the other cast. That's why the friendships of all the sailor scouts are more solid and the two deaths scenes of the sailors are so powerful (against Queen Metalia and Sailor Galaxia).
I think one problem with filler nowadays is that a lot of storytellers don't know how to use it properly, those episodes just shows us the characters going towards a situation without exploring nothing further from the characters, they go with the most literal way of the word "filler" while making those episodes.
Ladybug is one series that could benefit a lot by taking full advantage of fillers, especially if they wanted to do a lot of heroes, one episode revolving around how Alya is a good heroine but a terrible journalist, another episode about how Nino needs to learn to keep secrets. Episodes that focus on other characters, yeah Marinette can be involved in the plot and five support but she can take a rest from being the main focus (especially cause her plot around liking Adrien got old really quick).
Do filler, but do it good
genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back

Starting to think many don't really know what a filler episode is if they think all of these are filler. A filler episode isn't just a one-off story, but normally something that just feels like it is utterly forgettable and disposable and mainly there to fill out the schedule because the writers didn't have any better ideas. Episodes like Move Along Home, The Storyteller, Second Sight, The Muse, Let He Who Is Without Sin, Resurrection, Profit and Lace, etc. The type of episodes many will just skip on a rewatch.

tbh my latest biggest theory for why HoO and onwards is such a dramatic drop in quality and consistency is just. Rick stopped making teaching guides.
Like, the Lightning Thief teacher's guide is SUPER in-depth with even stuff like sources about middle grade child psychology and exact specifications of where he's applying that, explaining what different character's goals/motivations are, their dynamics with each other and their environments, etc etc. Even specifying which specific myths certain plot elements are supposed to reference or be about.
That stuff just doesn't exist for later books. There's activity guides and smaller, significantly more simple teacher guides for later books but they don't go into anywhere NEAR the same level of depth. The TLT one is a full lesson plan that breaks down the book at every level and explains what's going on and more or less why Rick did that. The others are all basically just glossaries of terminology and some simple question guides.
And they didn't even use the TLT teacher's guide for the Disney+ show because they clearly aren't adhering to any of what's discussed in that breakdown of the book.
By creating a teaching guide alongside writing the actual book, that's forcing you to document what you're doing, why, your sources, and information about your characters and the story they're in. It's like an even more in-depth version of a series bible. But that's lacking for later books (and etc) and it shows because that level of thought and depth and attention just isn't there anymore.

I never wanted to say anything about what's currently happening with Good Omens because how aggressive people have been on here but, well, what on earth did you think would happen? You wanted Neil Gaiman fired from a project he is co-writer of the book, writer and producer of. A project he holds rights to. Season 3 without Neil Gaiman wasn't possible. So I for one thing am ecstatic Amazon didn't cancel it because honestly, that would've been the logical conclusion from how people have been acting and reacting on here. And to me, it seems cancellation was imminent and someone fought very hard for that not to happen.
90 minutes is plenty. Season 2 without the minisodes, title sequence and end credits was roughly 120 minutes long. Death at a Funeral is 90 minutes long. Ice Age 3 is 104 minutes. Stand by me, Nightmare before Christmas and Corpse Bride are quite short as well, not to mention the old Disney films. What I'm trying to say is, a lot of (imo) great movies aren't actually that long and there are no character introductions, exposition or world building needed for Good Omens 3. It's not ideal, and don't get me wrong, I was sad at first too and part of me still is, but it's a lot considering the circumstances. Please be kind, try to be positive and don't exude all your negative energy on the Internet.

Moon's faceplate is wider than Solar's body. Solar walked right up to Moon, as Moon was getting ready to leave the daycare, and took his faceplate, while Moon was looking at him. He wasn't being particularly secretive about it in the slightest. Moon looked right at him, even. He would've seen his faceplate, even if Solar tried hiding it behind his back or something. How did Moon not notice Solar walking away with his faceplate???

Okay maybe it's just me but i actually don't care what the writers wanted to put in a story but didn't and I dont think they shoyod be used to argue canon.
It's one thing if a writer is forced to hide some details in the subtext because of censorship or tv-money politics its another thing completely to cut out whole scenes and be like but actually we where going to do this this this and that but we took it out but it shows you are intention.
like if something was that important just put it in the show 😭. And sure pacing and all that but that's for fluff and unneeded storylines not pivotal character building relationship scenes 😭.
I love arcane I really do but I am tired of hearing about what the creators said they were going to put in the show but didn't but before season 2 I personally did not understand Jinx and ekko's relationship/dynamic until I watched the Enemy music video where we actually see them being really close as kids and i heard the “I used to have a crush on you before you started talking to the gun line” from the game.
but it was likethe show just expected us to have all that content without showing it to us. And I just ughhhhh this is why we need "filler" episodes

Happy 25th birthday to Technoblade!
Also- I may or may not colour these later, but that's gonna take forever, so like...
We shall see.
Anyway. This is a bunch of some of my favourite Technoblade moments, all jumbled together in no particular order
Btw, most of these are direct quotes, (I only paraphrased, like. 2. I think-) since I spent a good deal of yesterday trawling the internet to find the originals. Feel free to ask if you want to know where something comes from! Though I think most of them are pretty obvious. Probably.
RIP Technoblade
Technoblade Never Dies!

#mp answers#i've been trying so hard not to be annoying to my bnha friends but if you will allow me to push this for this ask let me say 🙏#if you're afraid of the episode count for one piece the manga is a lot quicker read while being just as enjoyable because the art style is#an actual delight. its great its fantastic im absolutely in love with it#the series is soooo good and i know luffy can seem unappealing to people before they start but he's just SUCH a great character & continues#to be even now. the story is SO GOOD the characters are SO GOOD... theres so much lore and world building that its insane#if you read the manga we get 'cover stories' on what's going on with previous characters to see what theyre up to even though we moved on#from where we left them. a lot of these cover stories blend into the main story so well its just seamless#there's one where we get introduced to a character we dont see hundreds of episodes into the anime and they show up like; during the second#saga. the series is about traveling to other islands and every single arc has been tied to another in some way or form that shows up later#even if its sagas and sagas later- it still becomes relevant again!! it's a huge ongoing story and there isnt a single arc that feels like#it has no purpose (sans filler in the anime-but even then!! some filler arcs are really entertaining!)#it's emotional! its sad! its downright stupid and silly but GOD... you can feel the love that oda put into this series and his characters#and the emotions in the expressions and the messages the story gives off it just makes me UEUHGHHAHGHH!!!#it's all about the adventure and the romance of it all! its about the freedom it brings and bringing freedom to others!#its a series where treasure should be a focus given its pirates and the its a giant treasure hunt for the one piece and yet! and yet so man#of the characters treasures are things that are not coins and gems but people and promises and family and and#im going to EXPLODE i love one piece

Anime fans need to stop calling episodes they don't like "filler" I'm so sick of it. Filler means an episode where there was no base material, you cannot call any episode in an anime with no manga/novel basis filler, that's just not what the fucking word means. Killing all shounen fans for real
