Braiding Lessons ~ Kili x Reader
A/N: Omg Kili request!!! I love him and I am such a sucker for this plot!! so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do omg!! Also funfact but I almost deleted everything that I wrote during my roadtrip cause I was so unsatisfied with it ;-; Which is probably why it took me so long to actually publish it yikes

Summary: You always knew dwarves had various beautiful braids, but how come Kili doesn't? So one night you decide to change that and help him out.
Tumblr media
You tilted your head to the side, as you let your eyes skim over the various dwarves, whom you were accompanying on their journey. Being the only human, surrounded by one hobbit and several dwarves definitely let you notice a few differences about their culture to your own. For example, they could eat almost double their size almost as if they have two stomachs. They also tend to not care much about their appearance. Except of course their beards and hair in general. They take care of it almost as if their life depended on it. One detail that definitely stood out to you were the different braids that decorated each of them. You remember once staring at Fili, while he undid his small beard braids just to redo them.
“How come dwarves always have braids in their hair?” You once asked him. He smiled at you and continued weaving his fingers through his hair. “Braids are very important to us dwarves. Which is why we rarely let others touch our hair.”
Ever since that day you have noticed the intriguing designs and ways each of the dwarves intertwined their strands. Except for one. Kili was the only dwarf who seemed to be lacking any kind of braid and you have been wondering why that is. You also once asked Fili about it but he wouldn’t answer you. Maybe he doesn’t know how to braid? And he is too embarrassed to ask others for help? Observing Kili, who was laughing along his brother to some jokes, you quickly let that thought settle in your mind. He doesn’t know how to braid and you were determined to change that.
So later that afternoon you bribed Fili to change his night shift with yours (which cost you a few of your travel snacks), in order to spend some time with Kili. You wanted to teach him how to braid and due to the fact that it is quite a sensitive topic to dwarves you wanted to make sure that nobody else would notice the two of you. So as soon as the sun set and the snores of your companions filled your ears, you made your way to Kili. He was perched upon a log which was behind the campfire that slowly burned down. His hands were carefully crafting something delicate, which you didn’t quite see in the dark. “What are you working on?” You asked him, taking a seat beside him. His gaze swerved from the item between his fingers to you. A smile graced his lips.
“It’s a surprise.” He quickly put the item into a small pouch that was secured to his pants. “I thought Fili was supposed to be my night-watch-partner?” “He was but I wanted to switch with him.” A smirk formed on his lips, before he put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer. “Well, in that case I will make sure that this will be the best night of your life.” Blushing at the double meaning behind his words, you tried to separate your body from his. Of course, not because you didn’t enjoy him being so close to you, but because you were in desperate need of some cold air to cool you down and sort through your thoughts.
“I just wanted to ask you if I could braid your hair.” A dumbfounded expression accompanied by a gentle blush fell over his face. “I know you probably were just embarrassed to ask any of the others for help when it comes to braiding your hair and knowing that you don’t know how to I just-“ His laugh interrupted your rambling. “You think I can’t braid my hair?” You nod. “(Y/N), that is one thing we dwarves get born with. No dwarf in this world knows how not to braid hair.” “But why do you never braid yours? Fili told me they were incredibly sacred and important in your culture.” A blush dusted his cheeks as he stared into the campfire.
“Simple. Nobody has asked to braid my hair before.” Your hand moved to his and gave him a reassuring squeeze. “But I just asked to braid your hair. So please, let me take care of you.” He smiled at you and moved one leg over the log so his whole body was facing yours. You let your fingers comb through his soft hair a few times, before taking a strand and dividing it into three sections. Weaving your fingers through the wafts, you made sure to be gentle while also ensuring that there won’t be any bumps or strands sticking out of your small braid. After you have reached the end of his hair, you took out one of your slim leather straps and tied it at the end. Your gaze wandered from the braid to Kilis eyes and you realized how close the two of you have been this whole time. “Thank you AmrĂąlimĂ©. You have no idea how much this means to me.” You let your gaze wander to your hands in your lap while a shy smile graced your face. “Of course. I am glad you like it.” Kili put his finger under your chin, forcing you to look at him. A bright smile framed his face. “Now it is your turn.”
The next morning the company as well as you quickly packed up their belongings to get back on their journey. While talking with Balin about some of the dwarvens history, you suddenly heard a gasp from behind you. “You never told me about this Kili!” Fili held up a braid between them both. “When did this happen?” “Last night while you-“ “What is going on back there?” Thorin asked, slowly approaching the princes. “Kili finally got his braid! Probably by someone he seems enamoured with.” Fili teases, while letting go of his brother’s hair. A blush dusted Kilis cheeks, as well as your own as the words settled in.
“Was about time they tied the knot.” Dwalin let out a boisterous laugh at Balins words. Tilting your head to the side, you moved your attention to Kili. “What does he mean by that?” “(Y/N) doesn’t even know? You didn’t even explain it?” Fili asked, flabbergasted at the newfound information. “I hadn’t had the time yet.” Kili turned towards you and grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers. “But I will explain it to you when the time is right.” His radiant smile was enough reassurance for you. You will wait, until he is ready to explain the meaning behind the dwarvish braiding custom.

The company had been walking for hours it seemed. And they probably had been walking for hours, but the point is that their feet were hurting and they were in dire need of some rest. Though, as stubborn as the King was, Thorin kept going.
"No time for rest," He'd say as most of the company groaned, "We must make it to the next town before sundown."
But it had been hours. Walking and walking. They didn't even have ponies to ride on, and their backs hurt as they carried their heavy bags, supplies, and weapons. They wanted a break, they needed a break. Yet, their King wasn’t as merciful.
As the hot afternoon sun shone down on the Dwarves and one Hobbit, the bright forest they were wandering through, turned into a misty dark wood. The aura and atmosphere of the forest changed drastically with the change in temperature. The air was cooler as well as the smell, and the leaves crunched underfoot with every step they took.
Then, suddenly, the air turned freezing cold. It felt like an icy blast hit them all at once, making it feel as if they were standing on a high snowy mountain. They stayed quiet, wary of everything around them, even some pulling out their weapons, just in case. The company looked around, trying to find any sign of danger.
"Be still." Thorin commanded, his eyes narrowing as he looked around him, "Be at the ready for anything."
Then, suddenly, there was singing, coming from somewhere ahead of them. The song was enchanting and sweet, and it made the Company feel slightly more at ease. It was beautiful and melodious, almost like a lullaby; it sent shivers down the Company’s spines.
Fili felt his heartbeat quicken as his mind began to fog, and he couldn't seem to keep up with his thoughts. His head swam with emotions. Was it really a song? Was it just his imagination? He could see himself humming along to the melody, swaying back and forth
 It was hypnotic and entrancing. Fili felt as if he was walking on a cloud, as his eyes drooped in a heavy daze until he stopped; pausing mid-step. The fog in his head slowly dissipated, as Fili blinked rapidly; confused. He looked around in panic, watching as the rest of the Company, even his Uncle, slowly, sluggishly walked towards a large lake.
Hypnotized, the Company headed straight for the dark lake, which seemed to be the source of the voice they were all hearing. The water was dark, deep, and misty; however, they didn't care about the lake -- they were all too enthralled by the beautiful song that came from within its depths.
Fili, who had broken free from the hypnotizing song, noticed something as he stared at the lake. Near the middle of it, there was a face, peaking out of the murky waters with bright eyes.
Fili watched as the eyes widened when he realized that the Company was walking closer and closer to what he realized was a Siren. He ran over to the front of the lake, pushing Thorin away from it just in time. Thorin's glazed-over eyes blinked, as he snapped out of his hypnotized state. He quickly realized the severity of the situation and with the help of his eldest nephew, they shook awake the rest of the Company.
"Oh..." The Siren from the waters sighed, "You're no fun."
Thorin turned and glared at you, "What did you do to us?" He demanded and you sighed, rolling your eyes.
"Hypnotized you with my song." You said simply. "A girl's gotta eat."
Kili furrowed his eyebrows, "You eat Dwarves?"
You let out a hauntingly beautiful laugh, "Oh no!" You giggled out, "I hypnotize people to become bait for me to eat. I sing, lure unsuspecting victims in, pull them into the lake, and then the flesh-eating fish will feast on you... While I feast on them."
There was a tense silence after you finished speaking. Then, Thorin spoke up, "Well, you are not going to turn us into a meal!" He exclaimed, making you roll your eyes in annoyance.
"Well, I can't now. For one of you Dwarves has broken out of my spell." Your gaze slid over to stare at Fili before you slipped into the waters below. Fili looked around the lake before you popped out of the water, right in front of Fili; surprising him. "How did you do it?" You tilted your head to the side, your wet hair matted to your head, and parts of your face. "You should have drowned. How do you escape my enchantments?" You questioned. Fili opened his mouth to respond, but he closed it again. His heart was racing, and the blood rushed to his cheeks. You were the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes on. You smirked when you noticed and laughed softly.
Thorin pushed Fili behind him, pointing his sword right in your face, making your eyes cross. "Stand back, Siren Temptress." He growled, "Or else we shall skewer you where you stand!"
Your eyebrow raised, amused. “Tempress?” You asked. Fili was shocked at how calm you sounded, despite being threatened, but also surprised at how little effect the threat had. “No one's ever called me that one before. I must say... I like it. But then again, no one's ever fallen out of my spells before." You smirked, tilting your head to the side to stare at Fili again; something about him fascinated you.
"I do not know." Fili answered, "I just felt this pull, and I could think again."
You hummed, "Well..." You ran your gaze across his figure, "You must be special." You mused. "So... Where are you all heading?" You asked and Thorin brought your attention back to him.
"Do not speak as if you had not tried to kill us all."
You glared up at Thorin, pushing the tip of the sword away from your face, "Do you not know that it's quite impolite to point a sword at a lady?"
Thorin scowled, "And yet you tried to harm us!"
"Now, now, Thorin. You play too rough," You chastised, placing a finger on your lips coyly, "That's hardly fair. I didn't mean to harm anyone. It's just my nature." Your brows lowered and you pout your lips.
His glare seemed to harden as he stared at you, "How do you know of me?"
"Oh, your reputation precedes you... Your Highness." Your words dripped with sarcasm and you chuckled, flicking your tail out of the water when Thorin flinched. That comment had hit a nerve. "I may be able to help you, you know." You hummed, eyes slyly dragging your gaze from Thorin to Fili. "I can hypnotize others. You might need me." You let out a dramatic sigh, “And, I’d just love to get out of this lake.”
Fili felt a slight chill run down his spine and he swallowed nervously; he couldn’t stop staring at you. "No! No, you will not come with us." Thorin yelled, as Kili nodded beside him.
"We can't have a Siren join the Company!" Bofur cried out as most of the other Dwarves nodded in agreement.
"I do not know..." Fili began, his eyes staring into yours, "She might be helpful."
The Company turned to look at the elder Prince, eyes wide in shock. "What!? Have you gone mad!?" Bifur exclaimed.
Nori nodded, "She'll eat us to bits, one by one!"
"He must be under her spell!" Ori shouted, backing away from you.
"Why would you want to help us!?" Bombur shouted.
"If we go with her, we all die!" Bofur yelled, trying to get through to Thorin.
Thorin ignored them as he stared at you, narrowing his eyes, "If you step one toe out of line, I will not hesitate to skewer you." He stated firmly.
Your eyes flashed gold, and you grinned devilishly, "Good thing you won't have to."
Your eyes flickered back to their original color, and you dipped the rest of your head back in the water. Fili furrowed his eyebrows as he stared at the water, confused and curious. He, and the rest of the Company, watched as the water bubbled as if it was boiling hot, and then, you rose out of the surface. Instead of your tail, it was replaced with legs, and thankfully whatever magic you used, had given you clothes. A simple billowy tunic, trousers, and boots. If anything, you were also ready for the adventure.
Thorin stared at you, skeptically before going ahead of the group, and leading the way. You saddled up beside Fili, incredibly intrigued by the Prince, and how he was able to break out of your spell. What was special about him? Was he truly immune to your charm? But, the longer you stared at him, the more you realized how handsome he was. His dirty blonde hair, striking blue eyes, and his little mustache braids
 There was a sort of magnetism that drew you to him and made you feel like you wanted to be near him. It was strange.
"What should I call you, little Prince?" You asked, gaining his attention.
Fili turned to see you already looking at him, walking alongside him as you clasped your hands behind your back. "I am Fili." He introduced himself, face still flushed, "What is yours?" He asked, turning to face you.
"My name is Y/N." You replied, grinning.
Fili smiled at your response, "It suits you better than Siren."
"Hm. Or Temptress." You added, making him laugh lightly. Fili bit his lip, side-glancing at you with a playful smirk. You frowned slightly, "What are you grinning about?" You asked.
Fili shrugged, "Nothing really, just your company is nice."
"Is that so?" You raised an eyebrow teasingly, as Fili nodded.
"Yes."
You stopped and stared at him for a few moments before smiling, "Good. Because I think you are nice company too."
Kili couldn't help but overhear your conversation with his older brother, smiling slightly in amusement at the two of you.
~~~
Over the past couple of weeks, you had grown closer to the Prince and grew to actually really like him. He was a good person, and he cared very deeply about the people he cared about. You admired that about him. You were starting to notice things about him that you hadn't noticed before. The way he twiddled with his thumbs or how his demeanor changed when near his brother
You liked seeing Fili happy, you enjoyed spending time with him, and you found yourself falling deeper and deeper with every passing day. You knew that you were in deep, but you didn't care. All you cared about was Fili. You'd been keeping that thought to yourself though. For fear that he might think of you differently if he found out that you had feelings for him. You didn’t want to say it
 But you would show him with your sweet gestures.
"What is it like, wandering and going on adventures?" You asked softly, not wanting to wake any of the sleeping Dwarves or gain the attention of Kili who was on night watch.
Fili hummed, staring up at the stars with you, side by side, "Well," He began, "Sometimes it is dangerous, but other times it is quite... Peaceful." He glanced over to you, seeing how your eyes gazed upon the sky. Your face was illuminated by the light coming from the fire which lit up the small area in which the Company had set up camp. You were beautiful, especially with the moonlight shining off your skin. Like a Goddess sent from Mahal himself.
You glanced over at him and looked away shyly. "I wish I could've seen the world more. All my life, I have been in that lake, doing as my parents had taught me." You paused, your fingers playing with the hem of your shirt. "I never thought I would get the chance to see the world." You continued. Fili turned to face you, frowning slightly in concern.
"I understand." He murmured. "For a long time, I wanted to go out on adventures when I was younger."
You bit your lip, before turning your head to the side, looking at Fili, "I'm sorry for almost killing you and your friends."
Fili shook his head, "There's nothing for you to apologize for. It was your nature." You smiled sadly, nodding slightly in understanding before looking back at the starry sky. "What is it like being a Siren?" Fili questioned, breaking the silence between the two of you, "Being able to change your form?"
You blinked, your thoughts suddenly taking a turn. "It is very tiring. To say the least. Swimming all day
 It takes a lot of strength." You looked back over at him, "What is it like being a Prince?"
A sad sigh escaped Fili's lips and he glanced up at the sky, "It's difficult, I suppose." He paused, "But I wouldn't trade it for anything." He gave you a small grin.
"Are you happy?" You asked him, and Filipused his lips, thinking before he nodded.
"Yes, I am happy." He looked back at you with his blue eyes, "Are you?"
You sighed, turning to look up at the stars as a shooting star flew by, "I am now." Your hand brushed against the soft grass, your hand bumping lightly into Fili's. His pinkie nudged yours, making your heart flutter. Slowly, his hand encased yours, and he squeezed gently, earning a small giggle from you.
"You're adorable." You said, giggling as he rolled his eyes playfully as his cheeks flushed once more.
"And you are enchanting, Y/N."
~~~
The Battle of the Five Armies was ongoing. There was so much blood and gore. You spent most, if not all of your time in your lake, so you never saw a battle like this before. You were doing your best to help Thorin and his Company, hypnotizing and mesmerizing orcs, forcing themselves to walk off cliffs or stab each other. The fighting was brutal, there was no mercy whatsoever. All dwarves, even though injured or wounded, refused to yield. It was overwhelming. But as you continued to sing, luring a bunch of orcs to kill one another, you took a glance around you, unable to find Fili; you went in search of him.
You began to panic when you made your way to the castle ruins up high on the mountain, eyes widening as you watched Fili, being held by Azog on the broken balcony of the ruins. You froze, petrified as you watched Azog stab Fili in the back, before tossing him away. You screamed as tears streamed down your cheeks. Your blood-curdling scream echoed throughout the mountain, causing many to cover their ears as they began to ring; even some vomited from your piercing yell. You quickly rushed over, falling down on your knees, pulling Fili close to you, his head resting on your lap. Tears streamed from your eyes as you looked down at his pale form. A large pool of blood surrounded him, staining your pants and knees; but you didn’t care. As you looked down at him, you began to sing again, hoping that your song would somehow heal the wound on his back. But nothing happened. Your heart clenched painfully. You began to shake as you gazed at him helplessly, watching as your song slowly faded away, leaving a dead silence in its wake.
Opening your eyes, you stared down at Fili's glazed-over eyes, your chest tightening, a painful lump forming in the pit of your stomach. Your breath hitched, choking back sobs as you placed your palm against the side of Fili's face. His cheek felt cold against your fingertips, making a whimper escape your lips. Biting your lip harshly, trying to stop yourself from crying, you pulled Fili close to you, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"Please... Don't leave me." You whispered in his ear, and you shut your eyes, letting out a shaky sigh.
Unbeknownst to you, the tears you had shed landed on Fili's cheeks, melting into his skin. And after a quick moment, he let out a faint groan, his eyes flickering open. Your eyes widened at his sudden sound, sitting upright as Fili let out a cough, wincing.
He opened his eyes, gazing up at you through half-closed eyelids. "Y/N?" He rasped. You looked at him, relief flooding over you as he sat up in front of you. You cupped his cheek, leaning forward, and placed a light kiss on his lips.
"You are awake." You breathed. He grinned softly.
"Am I dreaming? Is this real?" Fili asked, gazing intently at you.
"No, you're here. With me. You're alive." You responded, pressing your forehead against his own.
"I'm alive? How?" He asked softly, and you shook your head slightly.
"I do not know." You muttered, "But, I am oh-so glad you are alright." You let out a small laugh of relief.
"Me too, my Y/N." Fili told you, bringing his hands up to cup your face, and then pulling you towards him, kissing you tenderly. You returned the kiss, feeling relieved, and happy to finally have him back in your arms, safe and alive.
~~~
Thankfully, after the battle, Azog was killed by Thorin, and the battle for Erebor was won. Smaug was dead. And everyone, even the rest of the Company survived. You were currently lying beside Fili, who was snoring lightly while you traced circles onto his forearm, smiling slightly. Living in Erebor with your beloved was a dream come true. With help from Gandalf, you had found out about your merpeople. Along with that, you had found out the reason why Fili came back to life. Your tears. Your magic tears. Something you didn't even know about yourself. Which you were beyond grateful for.
You had fallen in love with Fili. He had fallen for you. You both loved each other so much that neither one of you ever felt like you could live without the other. You both were inseparable, never without each other; always be each other’s side. He was everything you needed and ever wanted. You loved him. You truly did.
Fili stirred beside you, opening his eyes and staring sleepily down at you. You reached up, stroking his cheekbone with your thumb, a small smile gracing your features. "Hey, you're finally awake." You commented, brushing some strands of hair away from his face before fidgeting with his courtship braid.
Fili yawned, "How long has it been?"
You shrugged slightly. "Since we went to bed last night." You answered, flicking his mustache braids playfully. "How are you feeling?" You asked curiously.
Fili groaned lightly, reaching his hand up to cup your cheek. "Perfect." He replied, chuckling tiredly, his thumb running soothingly across your cheek. His eyes landed on yours, gazing dreamily.
"Good," You whispered softly. Fili chuckled lightly as he leaned forward, capturing your lips, kissing you passionately, and wrapping his arms around your waist. You smiled into the kiss, tilting your head slightly to deepen it. Pulling apart slightly, you rested your forehead against his. "I love you." You mumbled softly.
"And I, you, my Y/N." Fili smiled, pecking your lips softly.
Un pequeño fragmento de una historia que tratĂł de escribir, pero creo que quedarĂa bien aquĂ y mĂĄs de alguien le gustarĂĄ leerlo. Eso espere jgkdbfjs ✚
Tumblr media
La mĂșsica y alegrĂa resonaba, la gente bailando ante la victoria de la pelea mientras la mestiza observa desde el exterior. BebiĂł un sorbo al licor, perdiĂł la cuenta de cuantas lleva y de lejos pudo ver a ese par de hobbits robarse la atenciĂłn de la gente con su resplandor, como chocaban los tarrones al ritmo de su melodĂa y la forma que ambos unĂan sus brazos para bailar al lado del otro con sus increĂbles voces en sus canciones.
La alegría se le contagió y el aire soplo desde atrås, las hojas del otoño volaron frente de ella para perderse en la entrada de la fiesta y tan pronto pudo recordar a un par de hermanos que bailaban de la misma forma con un par de hermosos violines. Las botas golpeando la mesa y uniendo sus brazos para girar al lado del otro al ritmo de su propia melodía que robaba la atención de todos con sus brillos.
La melancolía también la había golpeado, pero una sonrisa se asomo por sus labios. El aire seguía soplando y nuevamente volvió a beber del alcohol, su mirada se desvío a las nuevas hojas que se alejaban de la entrada para perderse en el aire e irse a lo mås lejos.
Tras un suspiro, los recuerdos escaparon de ella. Una aventura pasada en que con dificultad fue aceptada, pero fue de los mejores momentos de su vida y se ganĂł su lugar.
Pronto sintiĂł una mano conocida sobre su hombro, conocĂa su presencia y al levantar su mirada pudo notar que su amigo comparte el mismo sentimiento. No fue necesarias las palabras, habĂa un brillo doloroso en la mirada de ambos y pronto ella no pudo evitar ensanchar su sonrisa que al momento se volviĂł en una risa que ambos comenzaron a compartir. Unas palmaditas para ambos y regresaron a la fiesta que los hobbits se animaron mĂĄs ante la presencia de ambos, pero en especial por la de ella.
SentĂa el gran dejavu cuando ambos le extendieron sus manos, tal como con sus antiguos amigos y acepto ambas para apoyarse en ellos asĂ estar en la mesa. Esos enanos giraban alrededor de ella, soltando mĂĄs de alguna carcajada mientras hacĂan sonar esos violines y estos hobbits giraban a su alrededor con pasos maravillosos que la hicieron reĂr. Bailo con los mismos pasos en medio de ellos, sus botas sonando sobre la madera y la multitud gritaba de alegrĂa a la vez que tenĂan sus propios bailes mientras otros disfrutan del espectĂĄculo.
Se sentĂa tan familiar, como si ellos volvieran. Diferentes, pero volvieron.
"To Woo A Warrior": A Holiday Hobbit Imagine: Dwalin Fundinson
Tumblr media
.
A Holiday Hobbit Imagine
Dwalin Fundinson x Reader, Plus Size Reader, PS Reader, Human Reader
Warnings: Middle Earth in and of itself?  This is post BOTFA .   HOWEVER, we’re rewriting it in which I’ve chosen to keep the line of Durin alive because I don’t want to bawl my eyes out this holiday season.  That’s the joy of fanfiction and writing it myself.  I can do what I want.
Use of Y/N because we’ll all be lucky to see this if I stop to figure out a character.  For those of you who are still waiting for Thorin and Fawn’s story
 I’m sorry.  It’s coming.  I just
 got stuck in world building mode.   *cowers in writer’s shame*.  Back to Dwalin and this fic though.
TBH
 this is loosely based on a story I’ve written for Dwalin but I just haven’t had the confidence to post.
Fem Identifying Reader just cause I wanted to.   If that causes gender dysphoria for you, hey, please take care of yourself.  No hard feelings if you scroll on.   Totally fine.   I just like writing a fem Y/N a lot of the time because I love writing women because women are awesome.
Disclaimer:  I don’t own the works of Tolkien or his characters.   I just own my own characters, my writing and such.
Additionals:  If you are under 18, listen.   I love you.  I wish you well.  A very Happy Holidays.  However, this would be the time for you to leave.  My page is not for you until you reach a certain age.  Sorry but it’s not.  Love you but shoo.  But also be kind to yourself, remember to drink water and do something nice for you today.   Tootles, though.
The markets of Dale were bustling and busy as ever.
The morning was crisp and a certain cheer seemed to saturate the very air itself.
Winter Solstice drew closer and closer every day, urging the citizens of Erebor and Dale to leave the cozy warmth of their homes and venture to the markets.
Delightful trinkets and trades laid out just waiting to catch your eye and make you think of the perfect recipient.
This morning was no different but the buttery sweet scent of star bread cut through that crisp cool mountain air that morning and a certain Captain of the Guard was all but paralyzed in fear.
Dwalin knew that no one else made star bread that smelled like that.
Y/N.
A very talented baker who lived in the city of Dale
 though she frequented the halls of Erebor so much that she might as well have lived there.
This was, in part, because of Thorin.
He sought out her services on a fairly regular basis because, frankly, Bilbo Baggins had a remarkably large appetite for such a small creature.
It had nothing to do with those little blackberry and brie swirls of bread, fruit and cheese that danced on his taste buds as if his very ancestors came to bless him.
Most certainly not.
It was just because the hobbit had an insatiable appetite and a seemingly endless cavernous void for a stomach.
Bilbo was very much aware of Thorin and his pride.
And he let him keep it because Thorin’s borderline obsession with blackberries actually served to further his matchmaking tendencies.
You see, the baker, Y/N was a lovely woman who Bilbo had spent many an afternoon tea with at this point.
A delightfully charming creature with a wonderfully surprising duality.
The woman could throw together a handful of anything and turn it into something scrumptious
. and that was high praise coming from a hobbit.
However, she also seemed to have a penchant for weapons.
He’d seen the impressive set of kitchen knives
 and the endless array of weapons that seemed to produce from seemingly no where.
Bilbo swore that she and Fili would have a grand old time speaking of weapon concealment if he could ever get her out of the kitchen and Fili out of council meetings.
But back to how Y/N came to Dale.
After Smaug the slughead had been slain a relative had sent word.
Her ancestors who had lived there previously had long since passed many years ago.
However, it was a great surprise to her when she received word from her cousin, Bard.
She’d been to Dale only once before and it was directly after the passing of his wife.
Dale was struggling as were all its inhabitants.
Suddenly, Bard had lost the love of his life, his partner and was left to care for their little ones alone
. and unable to do so because he could not leave them.
Sigrid and Bain were still quite small and Tilda was just a newborn.
It was an impossible situation.
He couldn’t leave them alone to care for themselves but if he didn’t leave for work they would all starve.
He’d sent word to his nearest kin
 all of which rejected him by claiming they had their own problems.
Y/N, who’d barely been out of adolescence herself at the time, wrote back and told him that she’d only just turned sixteen but that she’d had plenty of experience in caring for children, keeping house and plenty of other things.
And most importantly, she said she’d come and help.
He’d been a bit hesitant because it seemed she was still a child herself and that seemed like another mouth to feed and care for.
However, he was desperate and sixteen was old enough to be in charge and look after the others.
He’d wrote her back in thanks and acceptance.
Imagine his surprise, when she showed up by the next full moon with a wagon of supplies.
He learned that she was a highly resourceful creature and given the right equipment and ingredients
 could make delicacies that brought many a man to his knees.
What had surprised him was how she managed to evade the shake down upon entering.
He learned just exactly why the next time Alfrid saw her in public.
The man had apologized profusely and ran the other way.
When Bard had asked her about it, she’d given him a vague answer involving a frying pan and a battle axe.
He hadn’t questioned her about it since.
She stayed with the family for a few years and when Tilda, who’d been a baby when she came, reached five years of age
 another family member wrote to her asking for help.
A cousin of her father’s had lost a child and succumbed to the darkness of it herself.
The father had followed after her in heartbreak.
Understandable, but it had left the twins without anyone to look after them.
And they were only seven.
It had broken her heart to leave the family she’d come to know in Dale.
Bard’s as well.
She’d come to be like a younger sister to him rather than a cousin.
He hated to see her go but understood that the twins had needed her more than they did now and so she left.
It had been many, many moons since they’d seen her.
They’d received the occasional letter from their Y/N but had not seen her in years.
However, when Smaug had been slain and Erebor restored
 Dale had flourished and her cousin, Bard, was now the King.
Of course, all those family members he’d reached out to before came in droves then but they mattered not.
He hadn’t been heartless about it but they hadn’t been the ones he had missed.
When his duties as King only increased, he found himself with less and less time for his children.
They understood, of course, and they were well looked after
 but he knew what was missing.
So he finally wrote to his cousin, Y/N, asking for her help once again.
She was there once again by the next full moon.
Though this time, it hadn’t been needed; she arrived again with a wagon of supplies.
She had been embraced by Bard and the children once again.
Auntie Y/N had returned to them.
Upon remembering how wonderful her baking had been, he’d immediately offered her a job as the royal baker.
She’d accepted the frilly title but in reality she much preferred her old apron that had been worn soft with age.
Bard had provided her with a room and kitchen of her own and that’s where she really created her magic.
Sure, she worked in the kitchens where she was in charge of the feasts and delicacies and every other ridiculous thing one could think of when it came to food.
But where she found her joy was on the days of the market where she sat up a little stall with her wonderfully charming little treats.
They weren’t over the top in design.
Simple but pretty and the taste always felt like a warm hug.
Her prices were fair and she always gave samples.
Bard had assured her that she didn’t need to, as he’d buy her whatever she wanted.
She had thanked him but informed him that she enjoyed it and to let her be for she was far more pleasant to be around when she was happy than not.
Bard, who had been married to a woman for years, understood that that roughly translated to, “Bard, thank you but mind your own business.   I need a project to keep me from overthinking everything.  Either this can be my project or annoying the ever living hell out of you can be my project.  Take your pick.”
He chose wisely and didn’t question her again.
Fortunate that he didn’t because it was for this very reason that led her to Dwalin Fundinson.
Or rather, led him to her.
You see, Dwalin had a sweet tooth about as big as his arm and when word spread about the new royal baker and her amazing creations
 he’d been intrigued.
When Bilbo returned to the castle with two guards carrying boxes upon boxes of them
 it got his attention.
When Thorin nearly had a stroke over a blackberry pastry and suddenly had to place an order from the woman every few days
 Well honestly he hadn’t been surprised by that one.
His cousin had a serious problem with blackberries that he really thought he might need to see someone about.
Gold sickness looked like a jealous pouty child compared to what Thorin Oakenshield looked like when there were blackberries to be had.
However, one day Bilbo decided that he was going to the market and Dwalin, having had enough of listening to stuffy council meetings all day, volunteered to be his personal escort.
Bilbo was happy to have the company of his dear friend and they set out to the city of Dale.
Bilbo drug Dwalin all over the market looking for this vegetable or that fruit or that jam or those herbs but he didn’t mind.
The fresh air did him well.
Dwalin did not miss hardship in the slightest but occasionally he did miss the freedom of his old life.
The simplicity of it.
For example, a lot of peace can come to the mind when doing something as simple but useful as sharpening your blades.
‘Maybe a new whetstone
’ he thought to himself as he caught sight of a stall ahead.
Bilbo, having already followed his gaze in that incredibly observant way of his, simply waved him off and told him that he would be right here looking at honey for quite some time.
Dwalin had laughed for he knew just how long the hobbit could spend deciding on honey.
He’d nearly watched Kili explode out of impatience once when Thorin set the young dwarrowman to be Bilbo’s guard as a punishment for falling asleep during a council meeting.
Bilbo, the mischievous little creature that he was, actually took the opportunity to ask about every. single. honey infusion available.
It had taken hours and Kili nearly lost his mind.
So he felt assured that the hobbit would be just fine for him to peruse the stall and check out the new wares.
Dwalin spent some time looking at the stones as well as a bit of time eyeing some new polishing cloths.
However, his mind was clouded in a haze as the scent of buttery, sugary sweetness filled his nose.
“Hello, Mr. Kaznia.  How are you today?”
“Quite well, Miss Y/N.  And yourself?”
“Lovely actually.  I love it when the air is a bit crisp like this.” “Oh aye.   It’s coming strong off the mountain today.  Probably a fair bit of wind coming.”
“I hope so.” she giggled.
“You hope for wind?” the dwarrowman asked with a laugh.
“Oh definitely!” she said.  “I sleep best with a bit of cool air.  I’m no fun when I’m too warm.  A bit too stuffy and I become right unpleasant.”
“Oh, Miss Y/N.  I’ve never seen you be unpleasant a day in your life.”
“Well, Mr. Kaznia, you haven’t known me my whole life either
 nor have you been round when I’ve just woken in the morning.” she said. “Let me tell you.  Perhaps, the lot of you should have loosed me into the mountain on the great slug when I’ve just woken and there’s no tea to be had.  According to Bard, I am quite the fire breathing beast when there’s no tea.”
Dwalin couldn’t help it and he laughed a bit.
However, he’d gotten a first hand account of Smaug and was well aware of Bard and his
 Bardness.
“You must be tha’ cousin then.” Dwalin said.  “The wee fancy baker that's the cause o’ me cousin’s blackberry addiction.”
She turned to face him fully and his breath caught in his chest as he looked at her.
She was a beauty absolutely ridden with a soft fullness that had him absolutely enchanted.
“You must be a cousin of King Thorin then.” she smiled.
“Aye.  Dwalin.” he said with a bow.  “At your service.”
She gave him a kind smile, “Y/N.  At yours.  Charmed to meet you, Master Dwalin.”
It was there that began the very long and drawn out game of cat and mouse between Dwalin and Y/N.
And subsequently the testing of every last nerve that Bilbo Baggins had in his possession.
For months, the two of them did this song and dance.
  Sometimes they met at the market at the stall where they first met.
Sometimes Dwalin hand delivered Thorin’s latest order.
Sometimes she slipped a tiny star bread into his hands as she passed him while she hand delivered the order to Erebor.
Over time the both of them just kept making excuses to see one another
 and yet neither would make a move.
Bilbo was about to lose his patience.
But that day, on yet another cool crisp market day
 with Winter Solstice drawing near
 the pair of them set out to find one another again.
Bilbo had had just about enough and he was about ready to take matters into his own hands.
It had been months, nearly a year, and no progress had been made.
He knew and if neither one of them would make a move
 he was going to make it for him.
He was so sick of dwarvish courting customs and human wooing.
Hobbits had their own ways of course but this was simply ridiculous.
He set off to grab Dwalin by that mangled ear of his and drag him to Y/N if he had to.
However, upon nearing that little stall
 the hobbit halted in place.
There they were strolling through the market.
Dwalin happily munching away on a massive star bread in his hand.
Y/N gleefully clutching a shiny new axe in hers.
And their free hands entwined together swinging between them.
The hobbit tilted his head, a funny little smile on his face.
It seemed that Miss Y/N knew exactly the way to woo a warrior.
It wasn’t how he thought this would go but he was happy nonetheless.
He nodded to himself, thumbs tucked under his suspenders in contentment until
“Miss Y/N!”
Bilbo nearly jumped out of his skin when Thorin lumbered past him towards the pair of them.
“I heard you had blackberry bread today at your stall.  How many more do you have?  I will buy them all.”
Bilbo sighed and turned his face to the heavens.
“Yavanna, help me.” he said in exasperation, “Thorin, come back here!”
Thorin did not, in fact, come back there.
Bilbo did have to chase him down.
Dwalin never stopped eating his star bread and Y/N simply laughed at scene before here.
This blackberry obsessed dwarf being chased by a tiny meddlesome hobbit.
She turned her gaze to her own dwarf, “Dwalin, love?”
“Hmm?” he asked, licking his fingers along with the last of his treat.
“On a scale of one to ten-”
“Ten.”
“What?”
“Tha’ was a ten, lass.  Best one yet.”
“Well, thank you, sweetheart but that wasn’t what I was going to ask you.”
“Ok, ten again.”
“What this time?” she giggled.
“Yer definitely a ten in mah book, love.” he said with a bit of a smirk.
“Smooth.” she said, hand reaching to smooth over the top of his head.  “But not that either.”
“Alright.  What is it then?”
“On a scale of one to ten, what would I have to do to get you to help me make a certain dwarf king and a certain hobbit to admit their very obvious feelings to one another?” she said.
“Ah, lass.  Let them be in their own time.” he groaned.
“I will make you a yule log cake, cranberry creme puffs and star bread.” she said.  “As well as kisses and canoodling.”
Dwalin chuckled, “Ye had me at cake, lass, but I’ll definitely be taking everything from cake to canoodling.”
“Good.” she said with a nod before pulling him into the bushes.  “Let’s have dessert first then.”
His eyes lit up, “Oh? Ye got more treats you been keeping from me, lass?  Where are these secret treasures?”
She gave him a smirk of her own, “The cakes come later, love.  They’ll take time to make.  However, I can make good on my offer of kisses and canoodling right now.”
The two of them shared a massive grin before the sweetest of kisses... a lots of canoodling.
Miss Y/N certainly knew how to woo a warrior.
The meeting with Bard hadn’t gone well.
If someone were to ask him, Kili would’ve said he’d seen people take news of someone they loved dying better than how Thorin took being asked to keep his promise. A less proper person would’ve said it was a (literal) royal shit show. But with Fili gone, and it sunk in that now Kili was Thorin’s heir. It had settled like a looming weight over the young Dwarf’s shoulders.
Being Crown Heir was never meant to be his lot in life.
Kili was the younger brother. The care-free reckless spare Prince who could act upon his impulses and passions whenever he so desired to do without needing to take a step back and consider the consequences first. That was the only thing he’d known to be his whole life. Between losing his brother and having to say goodbye to Tauriel, his heart was never supposed to feel so heavy.
Now, thanks to the lack of tact from his Uncle, they were preparing for war. Armour was fitted, and weapons sharpened. Tomorrow they will fight. He was missing Fili more than ever, and hoping to all hopes that he would get the chance to lay his eyes on Tauriel’s face one more time.
Kili could feel how far away his head and heart were, he could tell that tomorrow, if he had to raise a sword, he would not do so with the same strength and enthusiasm as he once had. He might’ve been confident if his brother were here, but now he doubted if he’d survive. He’d lost his half, and with it he’d lost half his own will to fight. The desire to fight for a place at Thorin’s side somehow felt less worthy than if he were fighting for Fili’s place there - probably because the cost already felt far too high.
Somehow his thoughts drifted to you. By now you’d be far away, and if you’d given up searching the lake, you would not be returning. They couldn’t count on your help - Kili knew Thorin made sure to drive you away enough for you to never want to come back again. But he felt grateful that you wouldn’t be here for whatever tomorrow held.
To Kili you were as good as family, and knowing both you and his mother were far away did give him comfort. The same comfort that knowing Taruiel wasn’t here brought. All the women closest and dearest to him were far away, and would not see the bloodshed that would appear tomorrow - even if he would see it, he would bear it knowing it saved someone else from having to. Their combined distance was a protection.
Early the next day, standing atop the mountains’ entrance at daybreak, the Dwarves all waited, staring down an army of Elves. The sun peeked over the Lake beyond, and a hundred thousand Elven soldiers stood lined in ranks before the doors of the Mountain.
Kili stood by Thorin’s side, a sense of unease settling in his belly at the thought of what was to come. With his kin by his side, he pushed it away, exchanging it for a much braver face - one belonging to a prince, to a warrior. A king-to-be.
The thought that, today, something awful was going to befall someone close to him was pushed to the very back of his mind. He convinced himself, for a while, that it wasn’t anything to worry about. That it wasn’t going to happen. What Kili didn’t know was how right that thought was, and how wrong he was to ignore it.
Tumblr media
Thorin knew that sending for his cousin was the right thing to do. Dain would come. He would help, and he would fight. If needed, he would die too, and Thorin could keep the mountain’s treasure safe - the sacrifice would be all for his people’s sake, of course. Until now, Thorin was right.
There was Dain, and his army, refusing to stand down or surrender. With the attention taken from the mountain to the Dwarves, Thorin smiled. This is exactly what he wanted. Right?
In an instant, the battle broke out. Mirkwood arrows were raised, fired, and they whistled through the skies only to be cut short by Dain’s bolt cutters. Arrows were notched, realised, and cut down yet again. Thorin could only laugh at the futility of the Elves trying from a distance when it was so clear their only choice was to test their hand at close combat. Even then, the brutality of his mountain kin would outmatch any grace the opposers had on a battlefield, and Thorin felt confident that this battle was theirs to win. That it was already won.
But the earth grumbled and groaned, it shook even the hastily-built wall Thorin stood on. That shake was not the doing on Dwarf, Elve, or Man. The sound came from the hills opposing, and it drew Thorin’s eyes away from his fighting kin, and for one sickening moment he felt his heart drop into his stomach. Were-worms burst from the rock - he saw one, then two, five total - crushing rock and screeching into the fresh morning air.
Atop a nearby hilltop, a horn blew, and Thorin could see flags move to signal an attack. Orcs. Azog was here. They were all here. Everyone wanted his home - his gold - and all Thorin knew was that it wasn’t theirs to take. They weren’t taking it from him. He stood, stuck between frozen and fidgeting, as Dain led his soldiers into battle formation against the incoming Orc army. His jaw clenched.
He didn’t watch as his mountain kin charged to fight with war cries rising into the sky. He turned, told his company to stand down, and left.
Tumblr media
Thorin’s feet took him to the grand hall. The floor was smooth and glowing from the gold which had solidified in the past few days. His face shone up at him as he looked down, and he wondered for a moment who it was looking back at him.
There were voices swirling all around, echoing off the most distant walls and halls, telling him what he did wrong and what he said in bad taste.
“This is not like you.”
“I’m not my grandfather.”
“Madness is the only word I can think of for it.”
“I will not part with a single coin.”
He wondered what kind of person would run to his gold and hide among it instead of fight for it. Apparently he was that kind of person. The revelation made him feel ill. Like the room was spinning. Maybe the room was spinning, he didn’t know what was going on outside, something could be happening to shake the mountain so violently.
He fell to his knees, clawing at the ground as it began to sink away in waves. This was madness, the room falling away and gold melting without heat - it was too much, and he was going to get swallowed whole.
Then a paw, hand - scaled and painful - latched onto his wrist. It snapped him from one nightmare to another. From sinking to being attacked. His eyes followed the arm and he was met with a familiar face.
Thorin couldn’t look away. It was you. Your clothes and a fur cloak on your back were torn, and gold and jewels were draped all over your neck and shoulders and wrists like chains. Your skin was dry and flaky, scorned with scales of red and black. From your mouth protruded pointed teeth, and the tips of your fingers had become home to jagged claws - both dripped red, blood staining your lips and fingers like the stickiest honey.
On your head sat a crown. It looked as if it had been reforged, melted with a heat so bad and violent that it had dripped and fused onto your skin and hair. The crown and cloak were both ones he’d seen before, one he had once almost offered you but you refused before he had the chance. Was this what would’ve become of you if you’d accepted? Has he turned into a monster such as this?
He met your eyes and it made his blood run cold like his heart had stopped beating. They were so wild, untamed, like a beast. Never in his left had he seen your eyes hold such ferocious and feral anger. Not even when you swore to leave him did you eyes hold such a lack of humanity or care.
He knew it wasn’t you. You’d never look at anyone like that, especially not him, not even in your human anger. He realized then that this wasn’t him either. This cruel king he made himself to be. That wasn’t him, because that king wasn’t the Thorin that made himself a shield of oak wood. This king was one who fled and hid - and that wasn’t him at all.
His crown skid across the floor, and Thorin starred as it came to a stop. Then his movements became a flurry. He grasped at the rings on his fingers, tearing them off one handful at a time. The heavy cloak on his shoulders fell to the floor, the armour followed until he was left in what could’ve passed as travel clothes.
His reflection looked different now. Less like the cruel king, more like Thorin Oakenshield.
Tumblr media
Kili was getting restless. He could see the fight outside, he could tell it was only getting worse - he knew he could fight yet where was he? Stuck hiding inside the mountain, waiting for his uncle’s call. His restlessness was turning into anger, one he felt was justified, since he believed Fili would’ve felt too.
His fist clenched and unclenched around his sword, debating whether to go after Thorin or not. Approaching footsteps had him turning on his heel. He barely waited until Thorin came close before standing toe-to-toe with him.
“Uncle I will not stand for this.” Kili started, speaking before Thorin, and not stopping to let a word in, “I will not hide here while our battle is fought for us! Our brothers are outside fighting and dying for our home while we do nothing. It’s not right! I want to fight.”
Thorin reached out, resting his palms on Kili’s shoulders, and smiled.
“You will fight. It’s in your blood and mine. We are sons of Durin, and Durin's Folk do not run from a fight.”
“Really?” Kili asked.
“Really.” One of Thorin’s hands cupped the back of Kili’s head, and he pressed their foreheads together. Kili’s shoulders slumped with relief. He didn’t know what had happened to Thorin when he ran off, but he’d come back changed. He’d come back as the uncle Kili grew up with. If he weren’t having to focus on fighting, he might’ve cried with joy.
Kili watched Thorin turn away, and he thought he hadn’t looked quite so much like a king as he did now. Not since back in Laketown, at least.
“It’s not right of me to ask this of you, not after the way I’ve treated you all,” Thorin started, speaking in earnest to all who remained around him, “But our kin fight out there. I’m going to fight with them until the battle is over. I’m not asking you to join me, but if you choose to fight you will be fighting alongside your king.”
Kili watched as a wave of determination washed over his friends. He saw how they wanted the same thing he did. How they stood. He could see how glad they were to have the old Thorin return, and how willing they were to fight with him - something sorely lacking just moments before. Suddenly, even if the day ended in death, it felt like they had won one victory already.
The battle in the mind had been fought and won, now they just needed to do it in body too.
Tumblr media
A horn bellowed. The Dwarves lining the moat before the mountain’s entrance turned to face it, and their foes paused in their stride. Then a bell rang, crashing through the built-up barrier blocking the mountain's entrance.
The stones tumbled away, and out strode Thorin.
He was filled with a new sense of life. He felt he remembered what was most important. People not possessions. His thoughts went straight to you. To most he walked like a confident king. But really he walked as someone who wasn’t going to die fighting today. He didn’t know where you were, and he wasn’t going to die while an argument was your last conversation.
Dain and his soldiers parted so Thorin could front the Dwarven forces, and he couldn’t lie and say the sight of the Orc army wasn’t a fearsome one. If he weren’t so battle worn, he would be worried, but he’d fought Orcs before. He’d won before too, this would be no different.
Thorin’s mouth opened, prepared to cry out the advance, but it was overshadowed by a bone-chilling roar sounding across the skies.
His eyes flew beyond the Orc army, past the town of Dale and toward the mountains the Were-worms once breached. There on the horizon was a sight he thought long gone, and one he never wished to see again in his whole life.
A Dragon.
The people around him bristled with fear, even the Orcs seemed to be unsettled and unsure of what to do - after all, everyone stayed away from a Dragon, even Orcs. In truth, Thorin didn’t know what to do. He did before, but not now. The panic that rose in the soldiers around him, even with him there, wasn’t one to be ignored.
“That thing’s supposed to be dead!” Bofur said, “What’re we supposed to do now?”
“Look,” Kili came to Thorin’s side, pointing, “Look closer!”
Thorin couldn’t say his pair of eyes were the best working set in the word, but he did spare a moment to look closer at the Dragon which had caught them all off-guard. The first thing he noticed was that it moved differently. Its wings spread, but didn’t fly. Neck and head lowered, back raised, tail flicking back and forth. It moved more like a cat than a dragon.
“There’s someone on it!” Dwailn called. The Dragon climbed down the hill, pushing rock and soil over the Were-worm holes, covering them as it went. It advanced, pushing the afraid Orcs toward the Dwarves.
“Irak’amad.” Thorin turned to Kili, unbelieving of what he was implying. You? Riding the Dragon? “I can’t believe it, she’s controlling it!” Kili laughed.
Thorin’s head turned back to the Dragon, and indeed, even from this distance, he could see a clear human shape on the creature’s back. Something in him told him to believe it, that it was really you. You said you’d never return, but there you were. He could’ve decided to ask himself why, but he was far too grateful to have a real chance to see you again.
The Dragon’s mouth opened, then closed, and opened again. Fire was expected, by everyone, but words came instead.
“Khayamu,” The Dragon rasped. Clear Khuzdul spoke from its lips in a voice which sounded a bit too much like yours to be coincidence. It was a clear indication to all who the Dragon was there to fight for, and that it intended to help win. “For the King!”
Whumptober Day 28 - Denial
Tauriel x Fem!Reader ✌
Summary: Tauriel struggles to accept Kili's death.
Warnings/Notes: Y'all this is so rushed but I lost motivation half way through. It's fine
Word Count: 1308
  You watched the red headed elf descend from the mountain, following the Kings lead like a lost puppy. Her chin was tucked to her chest, eyes downcast and dim.
  As she passed you by she barely even looked your way. She didn’t even notice you were there. Her shoulders sagged with each step, body slowly crumpling the longer she moved.
  Thranduil noticed you watching and stopped, holding his hand out to stop the zombie trailing behind him. When she ran into his hand a weak frown crossed her face and she lifted her head. He glanced at you once more and then gently nudged her in your direction, wanting you to take her.
  Tauriel’s eyes landed on you and the frown ceased from her face, quickly replaced by tears filling her eyes once more. She sank into your arms with a cry.
  For both of your services in the battle, the dwarves offered you a place to stay for the night and the funeral before returning home the next day. Tauriel was silent as you brought her to her temporary chambers, head low.
  She let you clean her up and patch her wounds. It was almost as though all of the fight had drained from her body, replaced by grief and emptiness, a hollow feeling in her chest.
  Though she hadn’t quite returned the romantic feelings Kili had held for her, she still grew rather accustomed to his company and he became a good friend in her eyes. He was one of the only people to believe in her–aside from you–and he’d saved her life
 at the cost of his own. The guilt of it all, that Kili would never get to see the home he’d fought for, that he would be buried with his kin who fell to the same fate, it broke her. As far as she was concerned it was her fault.
  You got Tauriel changed into some cleaner clothing and removed all the dirt from her body. When you finished you led her out and to the large gathering. Every dwarf in the area and many of the elves gathered for the funeral of Durin's line; Kili, Fili, and Thorin.
  You were a little anxious for how Tauriel would react to it all. She stayed glued to your side at first, a blank look in her glazed eyes as she stared ahead. Then they revealed the solemn, now silent bodies of the fallen dwarves.
  The second Tauriel’s eyes fell upon Kili, something snapped within her.
  “NO!”
  Her shrill scream echoed through the caverns. Everybody froze and turned in her direction with surprise. Yes, there would be celebrations later, to honor their lives rather than grieve. They would be loud and boisterous and both happy yet sad, but now was supposed to be a quiet moment
  Tauriel broke free from your side and took off for where Kili was. Her eyes were dark and wild, filled with a crazed look. Her elvish agility granted her easy passage to escape the dwarves reaching out for her, trying to stop her.
  “He’s not dead!” Tauriel screamed, voice thick with tears. She tried to reach for Kili but in the haze of it all her cloak got caught. A few dwarves managed to grab onto her but she kicked and thrashed. “He’s not dead! Stop! Stop!” She shouted. “You monsters!”
  You quickly ran over, weaving between the shocked and upset dwarves. When you finally made your way to Tauriel she was barely contained beneath the grasp of 4 dwarves. She was still standing and trying desperately to break free, thrashing about like a wild beast.
  When her eyes fell upon you she grabbed your hand desperately.
  “Stop them!” Tauriel pleaded, voice cracking. “Please! Please
” Tears began to spill down her face and an odd look crossed her expression like she wasn’t quite sure why she was crying. She kept thrashing, finally breaking free but you grabbed her.
  “Tauriel.” You held her arm as tight as you possibly could. “Tauriel, stop it. He’s gone.”
  “No! He’s not!”
  “He is!” You exclaimed, grabbing onto her shoulders.
  She stared at you with feral eyes, nose flaring and teeth bared as she tried to not break into sobs. When she realized you weren’t going to help her, she lunged at you. Her fingers just barely grazed your throat before someone else grabbed her.
  It took a few minutes for you and the other dwarves to pin her to the ground, but the second whatever power Tauriel had left her, reality seemed to settle back down upon her shoulders. She paled rapidly, staring up at you in horror.
  You gently took her face into your hands, sitting on her stomach to prevent her from getting up, not that she was fighting anymore.
  “Look at me.” You murmured softly, holding her still. Her eyes flicked to your face, the glaze over them slowly fading. “He’s gone.”
  “N-no
” Tauriel whimpered. She knew you were right but she couldn’t bear the thought. Her fingers weakly clutched at yours as though begging you to tell her this was a lie, a dream, a trick
 But you didn’t.
  When you felt she wasn’t going to run away, you slid off of her, hands tight around her arm. You slowly helped her to her feet and guided her back over to the bodies.
  Tauriel stopped inches away, eyes falling upon the made-up corpse of her friend. To her dismay, you were right.
  Kili truly was gone. His chest no longer rose or fell with breaths, eyes closed, never to open again. The dwarves had cleaned him up as best as they could and the bloody impaled wound through his body was no longer visible. He looked like he should be alive, he really did. If there was only a little more color to his face.
  Her outburst and the way everyone was staring at her finally clicked in Tauriel’s head. Lips quivering, the elf slowly tore her gaze from Kili and looked around the cavern. There wasn’t a single soul not staring at her. After taking it all in, she looked at you, then fell to her knees.
  She still fought as you brought her back to the chambers, a newfound fear raging her body. She kicked and cried and hyperventilated, body burning with emotional fever. The only thing that snapped her out of it was when you gently dunked her head into a bucket of cold water.
  Tauriel cried for hours in your arms after that. She’d fallen still, the only thing moving her the violent sobs that wracked her like waves of pain. She cried until she made herself sick and then sunk against you, the fight wrung out of her like water from a towel.
  You got a bucket of cold water and laid her hands inside, then held a cold cloth to her head. Silent tears dribbled down her face and splashed into the bowl upon her lap but she again made no protest. What could she do? Nothing.
  When her temperature had lowered and her breathing returned to normal, you laid her down and sat beside her, quietly rubbing her back.
  Tauriel laid still for so long you thought she had drifted off. But eventually she lifted her head and looked in your direction.
  “He’s gone.” She whispered, wanting confirmation.
  You took her hands into yours and gave them a gentle squeeze. “He is.”
  There was no more pain or grief in her eyes, nor anger or desperation. There was only emptiness and resigned acceptance.
  With a heavy sigh, you moved to sit more relaxed beside her. You laid her head in your lap and worked your fingers through her hair, humming quietly. And eventually Tauriel drifted off in an uneasy sleep, the fight that had once been within her only a rumor now.
Note
Hi!! Please excuse my rambling!! I hope this is okay!💜
Can I please request a Kili x fem!healing mutant!reader where she has healing powers, and that’s why she was asked to be a part of Thorin’s Company, the Dwarves loving her as if she’s their own, seeing her as part of the family (and Bilbo of course). She’s not a fighter and is very gentle (Thorin often questioning whether she should be on this quest with them), and they’re all very protective of her. Kili and Y/n becoming especially close, sharing soft kisses when they think no one is watching, cuddling together at night (every night), and after he got shot with that poisonous arrow and she healed him, he asked if he could braid her hair
 She says yes (only Fili and Bofur in the room to see, they’d be smiling so wide and telling Y/n “Welcome to the family!”đŸ„ș). When the Kili, Fili, and Thorin go off to fight Azog, Y/n, who is supposed to stay in the Mountain, hidden and safe (also ready to heal anyone who needs it, when it’s safe to), sneaks off into the middle of the battle to find them (as she can’t help but shake the feeling that something is going to happen to Kili and his family). She finds each of them (Kili, Fili, and Thorin) after they’ve been attacked by Orks, close to death, but she heals them just in time, saving all 3 Durins (this allowing the three of them to overpower Azog and win the battle, and live to tell the tale). At the dinner after the battle (the one where the humans, elves, and Dwarves + Bilbo were eating together), Thorin makes a toast to Y/n for saving their lives, and announces her engagement to Kili (Y/n being very flustered and Kili being so proud, giving her a big kiss, her burying her head in his chestđŸ„șđŸ„ș)
Finally, it took so long to finish it.
I'm really sorry for the wait, but I love to take my time in doing things, especially requests.
Btw this was long, nad a little of a miss since I had to find away to link the events, especially since what you requested seems to happen at different times, I almost cut it to three to four parts. It was too long.
Warning: I don't know? My writing. English is my third language so...sorry for the grammar mistakes.
Tumblr media
The only thing your ears could pick up is the soft sleepy noise of the company. They all were sleeping or at least that is what you thought, so carefully and as silently as possible you stood up zigzagging your way to the person who had stolen your heart since your eyes first meet.
He, like everyone else, had his pretty eyes closed. His arms were wide open as if he was waiting for you.
"I will always wait for you" he confessed to you, one night, causing a soft smile to bloom for days in a row. The dwarves even teased you about it, with knowing smiles.
In your eyes, there is nothing but adoration for Kili. He may or may not be your first love but he sure will be your last, because not in a million years you would love someone like your loves, your whole heart was in the palm of his hand, for him to keep no matter what will happen.
Laying by his side, his hands unconsciously hung around you, burying you deep in his chest, warming your heart and body from the cruel cold wind. The gesture caused your cheek to hit up, it was hard not to blush, when you can feel his hot breath a centimetre away from your neck, sending shivers of pleasure down your spine.
You left your head to admire his face, and to your surprise, he was already looking at you with the biggest grin, and you couldn't help but stare.
Your face turned blank, which scared Kili for a moment, you almost gave the poor boy a heart attack.
He thought he was making you uncomfortable. He only calmed when he notice your eyes, those eyes that shined with millions of stars.
Your pupils were wide, like a cat. You had an immense red blush, that only he notice now, which was caused by the little to no space between your faces.
Taking the opportunity, he stole a kiss. The kiss was gentle, warm and soft, it represented Kili.
This was Kili, your kili. You thought.
You were clinging to each other never breaking the kiss as you changed position, now you were laying on top of him. Your hand holding his hair to stop from him moving and to deepen the kiss. You flinched when his cold hands come in contact with the warm skin under your shirt.
He caressed your tense shoulders, making you moan softly as you relaxed a little. You both knew you can't take it far, since literary everyone was sleeping by your side and can wake up just by one small movement, so you sadly broke the kiss.
You lay on top of him with his hands still working their magic, it provided him with enough comfort, easing the fear in his heart, the fear of losing you.
It was hard for Kili to believe that such an amazing human with intriguing powers had chosen him over his brother and his uncle, who happened to be popular among the young girls and women. He thanked every god he knew and believed in, for sending you into his life, and he promised that he will take care of you. He won't leave you, and you won't leave him, he will protect you with his life.
You were like the light that guided him towards home, with you he understand that home was a person, not a place, and god
Once this is all done he will propose. He will worship every inch of you, and every part of you will know what it's like to be loved by a man.
Without even noticing, the two lover birds fell asleep, unaware of the ears that were listening as they swear their oaths, and they may not show it (Thorin who believed you to be unnecessary for the mission)but they were happy for both of you.
You completed each other perfectly, like two pieces of a puzzle.
**************************************************************
The days passed in a blur, and without realizing you were running away from the elven and the Orcs. Everything was a mass, that you didn't even notice the arrow coming your lover's way, and unfortunately, it hit him before you could push him out of it way.
A few minutes later about an hour, you found yourself in a human village. The weather and the sky matched your mood. Grey, from fear, doubt and sadness that was overwhelming you, causing your power to be momentarily deactivated.
"It gonna be okay" Kili groaned tooking your hands in his, and you noticed how shaky they were, yet they squeezed yours, offering some comfort.
Weren't the one supposed to do that?
Oh, how terrible he looked. All sick and sweaty while you sat there focusing on your power, pushing them to the surface but no matter your effort, it seem as if you lost them.
"No..it's not okay" You snapped your eyes turning to your intertwined fingers. How dare he say that, while lying on a table, taking each second a step towards death, nothing is going to be okay if you don't fix him.
Fili and Bofur sat a little away giving you both some space, they were the only one left to protect you. They were sure you will help Kili, and you loved him just as much as they did if not more. You wouldn't let him die.
"It's okay take your time" He winced, throwing a flirty(?) smile your way. How can he act nonchalant while his life is been sucked off him?
You looked at him for a moment, and you saw it
He was always looking at you with so much love as if you held the world in your hand. It helped your heart calm down.
If only he knew how much he mean to you, if he died you were dying with him. you closed you eyes in frustration letting your mind surrended to the numbness, and without realizing your power travelled from your heart to the tip of your fingers, to his whole body covering him up with golden light. It looked and felt holy for the three dwarves, something out of heaven.
The moment it disappeared, you opened your eyes and to your surprise, he was like new, as if never fought a battle in his life, even the scares that adored his body were now gone, and you kissed the night your become had disappeared.
Fili and Bofur were surprised, unable to believe what their eyes just witnessed. They knew you were powerful, but this was something else. In their life they never saw something like this. How much are powerfull?
He stood too fast almost falling face first if it weren't for your body supporting his, he held your face with both of his hands, as he felt life coming back to his body, and sudenly Kili realised something
he was about to leave you, he was about to die leaving you alone. It scared him, maybe even more than it scare you. Holding you near him he turned to his brother, as if Fili could read his mind he nodded , leaving you two to drown in each other, you needed to feel him as if you were trying to conviece your brain that he was here and alive.
Kili felt the same, and it was hard on him as much as it hard on you, but he let you touch him as you please, he let your cry your heart out, letting all the stress of the situation fall as tears. He didn't dare to speak or break you mental breakdown. He held you until you calmed down.
I wish I had a partner like him Hours later, you were sniffling, wiping what is left of tears on your cheeks. You were relieved, you felt as if a weight was left off your shoulders.
**************************************************************
You were sitting on his lap, arms crossed, and eyes closed as Kili's figure caressed your head, going through your hair untangling each knot carefully not disturbing your peace. You had exhausted yourself, and Kili wasn't happy about it, as much as he appreciated the effort you put into saving him, he wanted you to rest too.
Your hair had grown longer than his, which had given him an idea "Can I braid your hair?" he whispered in your ears his hot breath caused you to shoot your eyes open. Cheek growing red. You couldn't talk afraid of what may come out of your mouth, so you nodded.
He chuckled at your reaction, he was over joyed that he has the same effect you have on him, even if he never had showned.
You both were in your won world inware of the two pair of eyes watching you.
"Oh my god! Aren't they so cute!" so they whispered to each in pure aww at the both of you. If they haven't considered you a part of their family before, congratulation they now do! They are already planning a wedding, good luck leaving now!
**************************************************************
"You can go, please?" You had a bad feeling about the fight against Azog. You knew people are about to get hurt and die, and you won't be able to help all of them, but that didn't mean it hurt less and you wished that neither of your friends was among them. It brought guilt in you, and it was eating from the inside. If only you were more powerful, maybe then you would have healed all the soldiers.
"Don't worry, I will come back" He promised, kissing your head a last goodbye before joining in the fight leaving on edge, with tense shoulders.
So it was no surprise that moment later you were running after your lover future husband. You tried to search for him, yet you never were able to find him.
Unfortunately, when you finally found him, he was in the break of death, for the second time. Not only him but Thorin and Fili too, you can hear your heart shatter in your ears as you run ignoring all the shoots around you.
You knew that if you don't hurry, instead of preparing for a marriage you will be preparing for a funeral sooner than later.
Gathering your courage you sneaked past the enemy, hands already glowing, you knew you had less than thirty seconds to heal all of them before the enemy notice you.
"Please work" You begged as you felt the energy drain out of your body going to the three dwarves, and slowly the colour of their face was back, and in no time they were running back to the fight.
Healing one dwarf was hard enough, but three at the same time, was wow..
Blackspotss appeared in your vision, and you fought as much as you could the dizziness, yet you weren't able to stand for muchlongerr before you collapse on the ground. Before you could fully for into the abyss you heard your namebeingn called by the people you considered family, even before you and Kili become a thing. They were your family not by blood, but still family.
**************************************************************
"What happened?" You groan standing up. Your head felt heavy, and it hurt so much.
Have you been hit by truck-kun or something?
You look around as much as possible, with your eyes still close from sleep. The room looked fancy, elven style. It looked so much like the guest room, the Lord Elrond let you use.
Your turn left to see the window wide open. The sky was decorated by stars that shined too brightly for you. You sigh, how did you get here? Why were you here? Didn't you all leave months ago?
Wait a second...You checked the room again. Why can't you remember, what happened after you left the?
"Oh my God, you're awake!" You were about to snap at whoever was screaming, but stopped yourself when you saw who it was.
"Darling!" Kili come running your way, hugging you so tightly you found it hard to breath, yet you didn't push him away, as he cried.
Tears fell from his eyes like rain, you were sure you could feel the wetness on your shoulder. "shh" you tried to calm him down, but he just kept crying.
"I thought you died..I-I thought you were leaving me!" His confession confused you.
You were about to die?
"What?" You tried pushed aside, but he just cling to you, explaining to you what happened, and in conclusion, you drained your body, to the point where your heart almost stopped. You were sleeping for weeks, he blamed himself, over and over again. Until, the other Dwarf come in taking him off you, which you were grateful for. They explained the rest of what happened.
You healed them completely just like you did to Kili when he was poisoned, but as you did so, it exhausted your body and your heart almost stopped, the healers had to put you into a deep slumber (coma), so you can get rest without your boy shutting down.
They did give you a lecture about putting yourself in danger, but they were restful nonetheless, even Thorin the sour dwarf apologised for underestimating you.
"Let's get married!" Kili blur out as he sat on your bed, the other had left giving the boy a pointed look before closing the door.
It was now or never. Kili thought.
That caught you off guard.
"What?" You raised an eyebrow, "Let's get married now" You laughed but stopped when you noticed his seriousness. "Excuse me?" Your wide eyes obeserved him looking for any sort of emotions, but all you could see was that he was nervous.
"I realise how close to death we are..." He played with his fingers trying to ease his beating heart, he was sure you could hear it" I never thought about marriage, but that doesn't mean I never wanted a family...Actually, I always wanted a family...A partner that wait for me and with mini kids running around looking so joyful, but The woman never found interest in me, they always go for my uncle or for my brother, but I never lost hope, and I'm grateful for that" He turned to you with the brightest smile, pushing all the air out of your lungs.
Oh my god, he's so cute I wanna die, ugh!
"What I a trying to say is.." He took your cold hand in his giving them a brief squeeze, eyes nervously looking at you, as he kneeled on the ground, and you coudln't help but gasp.
Is he going to..? Your eyes widen, your hand blocking a gasp from escaping your mouth. He answered your silent question "(Y/N) (L/N) would you please make me the happiest man, and marry me?"
It took you three minutes, and ten seconds to finally registered what he said.
Oh my god, he finally just proposed!
You jumped in his arms. Oh, my god he finally proposed. It felt like a dream come through, which it was, but that was your secret. You loved Kili t a point where it was starting to hurt you physically and mentally. He made you unable to think of anything or anyone when he is around, and when he is not. Your brain and heart were obsessed with him.
"Yes!" You screamed in his ears making him wince before chuckling, he didn't hesitate to kiss, not like he ever was. It held all his and your emotions in it. The fear of losing each other, the happiness, the excitement everything.
Unfortunately, as things got heated up the Dwarf crashed in, congratulating you, Thorin and Bilbo stood at the door, one with a smile that for the first time since you meet him had reached his ears, while the other with an apologia one.
Those sneaky bastards were listening, and as much as you were disappointed and frustrated that things didn't go your way, you were still happy, chuckling as they congratulated you with a "Welcome to the family".
How can you be not when you were about to marry the man who stole your heart, not only that but now..now you had a family that will protect you with their life and you will do the same.
**************************************************************
Thorin had organized a feast for the success. All the dwarves were happily getting drunk. there were other creatures but you only recognised the elven, the Dwarves and the humans.
You were sitting with the company. By your left side Fili was sitting talking your ear off, you right that where you fiancé was sitting holdin your wraist slowly caressing the soft materiel of the dress you were wearing tonight.
You had especially worn it, and done your hair, even though you didn't have to. You wanted to look beautiful so that his eyes can only be one of you. thankfully, his eyes never left yours, he stared at you all night with hungry eyes, that you ignored, with the most satisfied grin smirk on your face.
As you were about to take a sip of your drink, Thorin raised his cup, getting everyone's attention. Your eyes were on him, but your mind was somewhere, that until he turned the cup in your direction" I want to thank especially (Y/N) who come running to our aid...If it weren't for you none of us will be sitting here celebrating" You held your head high raising your cup in his direction "celebrating the betrothal of my nephew to this amazing woman" You almost pitted, coughing your looked down embarrassed as everyone laughed at your silliness.
This is your life and you will not exchange it for anything.
For the WIP Game: Cowboy AU (modern Fili x fem reader)
A cowboy Fili, you say?? O_O Please tell us more!
Ohhhhh the cowboy AU 🙈 you would ask about that one đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł
This is a fic that primarily has been under lock and key. I'm still trying to work out exactly how I want to go about it, for the theme is a little taboo....
I will say this, though;
Durin's Ranch
Fili and Kili run the show.
Imagine a hot summer day, hauling hay bales into the backs of pickup trucks, shirtless....
A lucky woman moves into the ranch next door, and she's fortunate enough to, erm, get to know both brothers 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
Tumblr media
I have a feeling answering this will only bring forth more questions about it đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł
King Thorin Oakenshield had negotiations. It was obvious that some people did not enjoy it.
That person was Kili. He slept and was smiling from the dream.  He must have dreamed of a beautiful red-haired elf.
The second golden-haired Prince Fili looked neutral.  He envied his brother. Kili could afford to sleep, even though he knew his uncle would be angry. He had freedom, and Fili just couldn't afford it.
He was the firstborn heir of the kingdom, he was expected to be responsible.
As the negotiations were ending (finally!) and everyone was standing, Thorin remembered something.  He cleared his throat loudly and everyone turned his attention to him. "Um, and as you know, my nephew Fili is my heir. He is expected to have certain responsibilities. The main responsibility is to get married and have an heir. I assure you that this is already being worked on."
Fili's eyes widened.  What?  Nothing is being worked on, Fili is not going to get married!Never!  He'll be an old bachelor like Thorin!
But all the dwarves began to congratulate him (for what?), so he had no choice but to nod and smile like an idiot.
Even his brother woke up from his dream and shouted, "Are you going to get married? My brother is going to be married!"
Fili pushed him so hard that Kili fell to the ground.
He ignored Kili's laughter and turned to Thorin.
The king sat at a huge table, wrinkles around his eyes.  He was tired. "What is going on?"
"I...," he didn't want to add more worry to his uncle, but he had to do it. This was too much!
"I'm not supposed to get married. And I don't know anything! Thorin, I don't want to get married."
"Fili," Thorin said wearily. "You will marry. It is my order. Choose a beautiful and suitable girl and get married. Do not take it as a duty, but as a joy."
"As a joy? I don't want to get married!"  he shouted.
"Nobody wants to get married, but you'll find that it's not that bad. Come on, I'm sure you know someone."
"I don't know," Fili snapped.
"What about that princess?"
"She was conceited."
"And the other one?"
"Even more conceited,"
"Oh Mahal, and what about that nice girl? Y/N?"  Thorin didn't give up.
Fili stiffened.  Y/N.  She was an ordinary country girl. Yet, she was very nice. He immediately remembered their first meeting.
Tumblr media
It was a nice, sunny summer day.
Fili, his brother and another group of friends went for a walk in the field (they wanted to steal corn).
What he didn't expect was a group of giggling girls working in the field.
They worked hard, and when they noticed the men, they stopped and started giggling.
Kili immediately started telling them jokes and they laughed.
"You're so funny," they said.
Kili definitely enjoyed the girls' attention, but when he told them he was engaged, they sighed sadly.
Fili rolled his eyes and decided to go to the field, when he suddenly felt something hit him in the head.
 He immediately turned and saw a pretty, young girl in front of him with an angry expression on her face.
"Thief!"  she shouted, holding corn in front of her like a weapon.
Fili grinned.  She was adorable.
 "I'm sorry, milady, I didn't mean to,"
"You're lying! You wanted to!"
"It was just one corn," Fili grinned.
"It wasn't! You wanted more! Why would you take a basket?"  she nodded at the basket in his hand.
He sighed.  Well, maybe he wanted to take more than one corn.  But the girl was too smart.
"I'm sorry. I was too hungry and I didn't take anything more, I swear."
She narrowed her eyes.  "Should I trust you?"
"Yes,"
She rolled her eyes and sighed.  "All right. Now I'll take you out of the field and you'll come back where you came from,"
"It will be my pleasure," Fili said.
The girl ignored him and began to walk.  He followed her.
Fili thought she was pretty, smart, hardworking and had the right fire in her, which only women have. She would be a great queen.
"Milady? May I know your name?"  Fili asked her.
"Why? We'll never see each other again."
Yes, we will.
"I want to keep the memory of you,"
The girl sighed and brushed her hair from her face.
"I'm Y/N. And you?"
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Y/N," Fili kissed her hand, and she reddened.
"I'm Fili." She suddenly turned pale.
"Fili? Fili Durin, Prince Fili Durin?!"
"Hm."
"Oh my god, I didn't know, I'm sorry!.."
Fili put his finger to his lips.
 "I'm just Fili now. No prince."
"Um. All right," she said, sighing.
They went to Kili, and Fili introduced them.  Kili raised an eyebrow and smiled at his brother.
****
"She's a pretty girl, isn't she?"  Kili asked him as they walked home.
"What did you say?"  Fili didn't even notice him.
He held corn in his hand, she had given it to him without a word. Him. The thief. They both had chemistry, and they knew it.
"You're in love with her!"  Kili said.
"What!? No!"  Fili defended himself.
"Ha! I know when you're lying, bro. But I approve of her. She's modest, amazing. Marry her."
"Don't be crazy."
But in the end, it was Fili who was crazy.
The next day, he looked for Y N, and found her in the field again.
He wanted to go after her, but then he froze.
A stranger came to Y/N and hugged her tightly.
They started talking and she was very happy.
She's engaged.
When Fili realized this, a bouquet of flowers fell to the ground.  He wanted to give them to her, but it was too late. He was wrong.
There wasn't love between them. Love at first sight didn't exist. It wasn't possible. This was real life. Of course she's engaged!
Fili was not selfish, he saw that she was happy with the other man.  He didn't want to ruin their happiness. He returned to the kingdom with a broken heart.  And he hadn't liked any other woman since.
Tumblr media
"She's engaged," Fili said.
Thorin narrowed his eyes.  "She's not. As far as I know, she's not."
Fili laughed.  He didn't believe him.
"I saw for myself that..."
Thorin interrupted him. "Then you're blind, nephew. Go for her."
Fili didn't want to go to her, he really didn't want to... but by pure chance Y/N didn't let him sleep and neither did Thorin's words.
 Was it really a mistake? So Fili walked on a pony around her village.
He had to see her.  He knocked on the door of her house, and immediately she opened it for him.
She was wearing a simple dress.
"Fili!"  she threw herself around his neck.
"I was afraid you wouldn't come back! Come on!"  She invited him to her humble house.
There was the smell of apple pie filling the air, and the fire in the fireplace was warming.
 He felt such peace in his soul.
But Fili was confused.  Did Y/N expect him?
She handed him hot tea. When their hands touched, both felt something. They looked at each other.
"Thank you... but were you waiting for me?"
She looked confused.  "Yes? Your brother was here, and he told me that you would come and I should wait for you."
Damn, Kili!
Fili sighed.
"And did he tell you anything else?"
She blushed. "Um, he asked me if I was engaged."
"And are you?"  Fili asked.
Y/ N's face turned red .  She was cute.
"No, I'm not. Why do you ask?"
Fili didn't know if he should be angry with Kili (Kili shouldn't have drunk on him! He just discovered the truth about Fili, about his love for Y/N) or dance from happiness.  She wasn't engaged!
"Aren't you engaged? Really, Y/N? I thought... I saw you in the field with a guy..."
Y/N smiled.  "That was my cousin. He had just come back from the war."
Fili was such a fool!
"Y/N, forgive my directness, but..." Fili dropped to his knees and Y/N fell silent.
"Would you marry me, a fool and a thief? I need you. I want you. I love you. Ever since you threw that corn at my head, I knew you were the one. And I don't want to wait. I want you to be my queen."
Y/N had tears in her eyes.
This beautiful golden-haired prince was kneeling in front of her and asking for her hand!
"I love you too, my thief. Yes! Yes!" she threw herself into his arms and Fili immediately began to kiss her.
"Mahal, I'm so happy," he muttered into her hair.
And it was probably no surprise that after Fili's wedding, he abducted his newlywed  to a cornfield, where he dedicated the whole field to her to constantly remind them of the beginning of their love story.  And the cornfield  stands there to this day, and anyone who passes by, will immediately remember them.
Fili Imagine - Before the Petals Fall
A/N: Hello friends! Here is a Fili story for you. This is two parts: one fluffy part that demanded to be here and one smutty part that... grew. Haha. But both parts are in this post under the cut! *Be sure to read the warnings,* especially for the second part. It might not be for everyone.
Writing this was somewhat of an out of body experience that I blame @laurfilijames for, so this is for you! :) Thanks for all your support and kindness and for giving us your precious stories!
Pairing: Fili x Fem!Reader
Word Count: Part 1: 394    Part 2: 1,179
Warnings for Part 1: fluff, talk of loneliness, reunions
***Warnings for Part 2: dirty smut, kind of kinky, come kink?, dirty talk, cockwarming kink***
Summary: You and Fili are reunited after three weeks of being apart due to his Princely Duties. Part 1 is the story of your reunion and Part 2 is the story of your nightly activities.
KurduwĂȘ: My heart
Tumblr media
~~~~Part 1~~~~
Imagine being kept from Fili for a while. Perhaps he had to accompany Thorin on a diplomatic mission for a few weeks, leaving you in the mountain to your own duties and plenty of Kili’s company whenever either of you grew lonely or bored without the elder prince.
Though Fili left you with a wide vase holding heaps of your favorite flowers and greenery to remember him by, along with promises of a swift and safe return, you still missed him terribly. His words echoed in your mind each morning when you woke alone: “I will return before the petals fall,” he’d said.
It’s true the weeks without him were long.
But it’s also true that he kept his word.
He returned to the mountain in the evening, exactly three weeks after he’d left. Once he was dismissed by his uncle, he hugged his brother, declined an invitation to dinner and started up the long torch-lit path to you. Not one of his long strides broke or stuttered until he entered your shared chambers and held you in his arms.
     “Have I surprised you, kurduwĂȘ?” he asked.
     “A bit,” you said, leaning into the palm that caressed your cheek as you spoke. “But it’s a wonderful surprise. Though I knew you couldn’t stay away too much longer.”
He chuckled. It was a deep, resonating sound that you wanted to curl inside of. “Always calling me back to you, hm?”
     “That,” you said, kissing his teasing smile. “And the flowers. The petals are hanging on by a thread.”
You hadn’t dared to touch the vase in days, not even to give the flowers more water, afraid one of the browning petals would fall before Fili returned. It was silly, but-
     “Not this one,” he said, reaching into the bouquet and pulling out a perfect stem of your favorite greenery. He tucked it behind your ear, decorating your hair and sending a rush of fresh scent to your nose. “This one is still perfect.”
He braided the greenery into your hair as a comfortable, fragrant halo, and a reminder of his kept promise to you. As he made love to you in the following hours, he’d often close his eyes and press his cheek to that spot in your hair, as if proving to himself where he was and that he’d indeed made it home safe to you.
~~~~Part 2~~~~
You and Fili had had nights like this before, where you would make love to each other until the wee hours of the morning. His desire for you astonished you, as did his stamina and his generosity. It was never ending. He knew just how to play and tease and pleasure until he led orgasm after orgasm out of you, writing a symphony of wet slaps and long moans that would end in an ovation that left you clinging to him until dawn.
You could never get enough of him. There wasn’t enough Fili in the world to satisfy you and after such long weeks apart, you were relieved that Fili seemed to feel the same way about you.
He was so patient for you, listening to your wishes and whimpers and watching your body with an attentive gaze, allowing you to do whatever you wished to him. The two of you soiled your bed sheets, most inches of them wet with sweat or soaked with your own arousal- not to mention Fili’s sticky spend that was striped across multiple towels strewn over the floor. Thanks to all parts of you, Fili too had reached his high several times during the night, painting you or filling you with his seed.
There came a time in the early hours of morning when moving at all- whether it was to bathe, sneak to the kitchens for sustenance, or even to simply shimmy closer to your lover- seemed like an impossible feat. All you were capable of now was resting your heavy eyes and listening to Fili, his breath, his heartbeat, his long sighs of satisfaction. Before completely losing yourself to sleep, you rolled toward Fili and kissed him, wrapping your arm over his damp, furry chest.
The touches that he returned were light and affectionate. His fingertips rolled over your arms and down your back and he placed simple kisses on your face and into your hair, pausing to inhale the scent of your sweat, your sex, and the greenery that was somehow still neatly braided into your hair. It all would have been enough to put you to sleep. Especially after everything Fili had just treated you to.
Yes, it would have been enough if you hadn’t waved your thumb over Fili’s chest and given his shoulder a quick kiss. But now that he knew you were still awake, it seemed he wasn’t ready for the night to end.
He wrapped his arms around you and with needy hands, groped at your naked ass. He pulled your cheeks apart, making you bury your face into the crook of his neck and groan.
     “Fili-”
     “Still so wet for me,” he said.
The heat radiating from his groin was almost too much to bear against your sensitive inner thighs, but the fact that it was his heat, his arousal made you lean your hips into it. He was partly hard now, erect enough to push his length between your thighs and up against your dripping lips. His fingers squeezed you and massaged the round globes of your ass, pulling and pushing your body on his hardening cock.
This had to be a record.
     “Wanna be inside you,” he said. It was a whine.
In answer, you wrapped your legs high around his waist, opening yourself to him once again. He shimmied down on the bed until his face was even with your breasts and he pressed his cheek to your chest. Kissing that spot and sucking on your skin, he drove his cock into you until he was fully seated inside you. The groan he let out into your skin made you clench around him.
     “You feel so good, warming my cock like this,”
It wasn’t unusual for Fili to set your nerves aflame with his filthy mouth. He knew exactly what to say to you to make you come when you were hovering on the edge. Often, just his words and grunts gave you what you needed to fall. And he knew it.
However, this was different. He wore no arrogant smile and there was no knowing look shining in his eyes, because right now, you couldn’t see them. He kept his face hidden in the valley between your breasts and even his delicious noises were muffled by them. He was holding onto you so tightly and yet, thrusting so lazily inside you. Just an inch or so of his length was sliding in and out of you and just that was enough to make Fili sing. Which in turn, was enough to set you alight.
     “Jus’ like this,” he said. “Feels so good jus’ like this, (Y/N).”
You’d never seen him so
 needy. He was completely lost in his pleasure, ceaselessly praising you as he squeezed you and tasted you, used your body to stroke his cock. He’d never let himself go in such a way and it was driving you insane. Watching him rut up against you made you lift your knees higher around his waist so he could fuck you deeper and stroke that hot spot inside you with every thrust. Every movement of his hips now made a squelching sound inside you.
     “Yes, Fili-”
     “So fuckin’ wet for me.”
You locked your ankles around his back and raked your fingers through his hair, forming a fist to pull on the blond braids. The smell of him was intoxicating- all arousal and spend and musk, but also all him. Burying your nose into his crown, you asked, “You like this, hm?”
     “Fuck. Yes, (Y/N). So good for me.”
You let him go. You caressed him and kissed him and loved on him, giving yourself over to him to use and you enjoyed every moment. This was all so new- the lazy, little humps, the whining. You liked watching him. You liked the feeling of him fucking up into you for pure pleasure and nothing else.
In fact, you were almost disappointed when the tell tale signs of his end came. He hugged you tight and groaned as your walls squeezed his cock. Those short thrusts stuttered as he emptied himself inside you for the last time that night. But this time, you didn’t let him slide out. You adjusted his limbs that felt like long, heavy rolls of jelly, so he’d be comfortable for the few remaining hours of the night, but you kept him close and held his soft member inside you as he drifted off to sleep.
As you laid back on your pillow, you once again listened to your lover, to his breath, his heartbeat, his sleepy sighs of satisfaction. So often, you were the one resting your head on his chest, but right now, it was incredibly satisfying and special to have it the other way around. Combing your fingers through his hair and wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead, you enjoyed his company and reveled in this change.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t also reveling in the feeling of his come and cock still inside you. As exhausted as you now were, you were truly looking forward to what Fili would have to say in the morning.
This is a re-write of a old series! If you'd like to read the original, you can find it Here.
Tumblr media
“I should've seen this one coming,”
Your mumbling came out breathy, almost like it wasn’t spoken at all. Beside you were the Durin brothers, Fili and Kili. On your watch, ponies had been stolen - by Trolls was your guess, of all the beasts this land had to throw at you, it had to be them - and now you had to deal with forming a plan to get them back.
Between the three of you, nothing was happening very quickly.
A curse broke behind you, and you turned to see Bilbo approaching - juggling three bowls of stew between two arms, and almost making a mess of it. You looked at him, and an idea sprung.
“Bilbo could get the ponies.” You leaned over to Kili, whispering so the Hobbit couldn't hear. “He’s small and quiet - those giant’s would barely have time to think!”
"Strapping idea -”
“Master Boggins!” Fili said, surging forward and clapping the poor Hobbit on the shoulder to pull him forward. “We’ve found ourselves in a bit of a mix.”
“See we’re meant to have fourteen ponies -”
“But there’s only twelve -”
“We know where they are -”
“But we need your help.” They both said. How they managed to sync up so well was astounding - they weren’t even twins - but you knew sometimes siblings are just like that when they’re close enough.
Eventually Fili and Kili wandered off, chasing the direction where the ponies would be, you followed, with Bilbo behind. Bilbo was urged forwards, Fili disappeared, and soon you were the only one left watching the Hobbit try - and fail - to free the ponies. It wasn’t that he was getting caught - but you felt you were going to burst at the amount of times he ‘almost’ was.
Then he was.
You quietly yelped with him - almost jumping from your hiding spot. You stayed still, biting your lip in indecision at what to do when Kili and his brother appeared at your sides. The others came up behind you soon after, and when they decided Bilbo had been tortured with trying to stall in conversation enough, they all surged forwards, crying ready for a fight.
You were less enthusiastic. Much less. You’d barely had a hand on your sword to draw it when it was all over. A short-lived battle indeed.
The Trolls, three of them, were corralling you all into bags - big hessian, dirty things - you did not want to be put in one of those things. Despite your thrashing protests - and your contemplation of resorting to biting (which fell through, those were horribly gross looking fingers) - you were thrust into a bag alongside Thorin.
The damn thing didn’t even cover your shoulders - if the drawstring wasn’t so tight, you might’ve been able to wiggle out. You’d give the trolls credit, they knew how to tie a good knot.
“Human’s good for stews, not roastin’ like Dwarf.” One said, drawing your attention and making your eyes go wide. “Chop her up and put her in, that’ll fix the mess yous made of it.”
“Roast Dwarf, Human stew - we gonna eats good tonight!”
“Hey no! You can’t eat me!” You squealed, kicking your feet in the bag - Thorin made a grunt beside you after you kicked his shin in your panic, but said nothing of it aside from hissing out a quiet ‘watch it’. Especially after a troll picked you up and paid zero mind to your screaming. “Listen, you can’t eat me! You can’t!”
“Why not? You’ve got nothin’ special about you.” He looked at you with a sideways head-tilt.
“I do! I’m not like the others, you couldn’t eat me yet.” One of the smarter Trolls looked over, noticing the extra fight you were putting up.
“Why wouldn’t we eats yous yet? We says a Human’s more tasty than a Dwarf anyways.” He said.
“Aha see, that’s the thing. I’m
” you swallowed, thinking of some excuse you could do that the others couldn’t. Then it hit you. “I’m with child!” you blurted. But it phased the Troll none.
“Meanings you’re extra, extra tasty. More meats on you.” He took you from his friend, grabbing his knife and bringing it far too close to you for your liking.
“No, wait, wait! Just think! Once I get bigger and give birth you’d have an extra Human to eat. I’ve heard babies are even more delicious than full grown Humans - you’d have it and me to eat then!” you spoke quickly, wasting no time in trying to lie your way out of being eaten. “In fact, you should probably let me go.”
“We ain’t stupid.” The Troll said. “We got no reason to not tie yous up lie the rest,”
“No see, listen, tying me up would restrict the growth of the child.” you bluffed, knowing all you needed to buy more time. “If I’m not tied up then the child will be bigger than normal.” you added, nodding as if to convince them.
The Trolls seemed to buy your excuse and put you down in the pen with the ponies, but made no effort to free you. But you did.
You wiggled you arms - thrashing like a madman as if it’d make any difference. And it did. Soon you had one arm free, but the rest would have to wait. You didn’t have enough time to free the rest, you needed to help the others - time was of the essence.
You looked over at the pile of Dwarves and Bilbo, catching Thorin’s eye as you slowly moved towards the back of the pen in hopes you could just slip away to get help. Gandalf was out there somewhere, and maybe if you could get away - pray he was close by and find him - then he could help much more than you. The Trolls were too busy trying to stop one of the Dwarfs from squirming to notice you clumsily slide out of the pen and back further into the forest. hobbling and finally shedding the bag as you went.
Thorin watched you. His mind told him you were slipping away to save your own skin. But his heart told him to stay silent and wait. Even though he thought you disliked him with a fiery passion, you held both his nephews in very high regard, and became almost like a daughter to Balin. Not to mention how you effortlessly had the likes of both Dwalin and Ori wrapped around your little finger.
He believed you wouldn’t leave those you liked to die simply because you thought one person you disliked deserved it.
Tumblr media
You found Gandalf within ten minutes, and you managed to not get caught again as you watched on as he saved the others.
What a wizard.
The Trolls were turned stone in the first light of day, and you set to quick work of helping the others out of their restraints. You’d already unbagged Fili, and Dwalin when you reached Thorin. He looked at you intently as you worked on the bag.
“How’d you come up with that idea? To fake yourself being with child?” he started, “If Gandalf didn’t save us and we were stuck, you’d only prolong your own suffering.” Once he finished talking you were also finished with his bag, letting him get himself out fully as you leant back on a stone. “You’d have watched us all die.”
“I guess I was with child once, in a way. That sort of thing doesn’t leave you very quickly.” You mumbled. You played with your hands as he looked over at you with a slightly shocked face. “Technically it wasn't mine, but by the time our time together ended it really seemed like he was.”
“What happened?” His question made him seem genuinely interested. You couldn’t help the feeling in your stomach that made you want to share everything with him. A deep breath left your nose.
“Long story short, I passed through the Misty Mountains, a group before me wasn’t so fortunate. A young boy was the only survivor, and I couldn't just leave him there to die, so I decided to take him with me until I reached the next village or town.” You said, watching as the others untied and dressed each other. “I tried my best, but trolls have to make sure they ruin everyone’s best day.”
Thorin remembered Gandalf had said you'd come across Orcs and Trolls before. This was your encounter with trolls, but what about Orcs? He decided to ask, leaning beside you as you both looked over the others.
“If you don't mind me asking - and I don't want to come across as prying - what exactly happened?” He asked gently, keeping his eyes forwards and off you. You glanced over at him, noting that there was still not a single punch of aggression in his words or demeanor.
“It was a little ways back towards the mountains from here.” you started softly, “I had the child strapped to me, had to tuck my pack under my arm - I knew it meant I couldn't get to my sword quickly if an attack came. I knew it was risky, but the boy couldn't walk, he was too small, I had no other choice. Out of nowhere, a Troll came. It got the child and I.” You let out a shaken sigh, eyes watering slightly, and your hands wringing each other in your lap. “I barely got away from them, but Orcs came after, and in the confusion I couldn’t get away in time for the both of us. If I’d moved faster it would’ve been fine.”
Thorin felt a sudden guilt wash over him for how much of a arse he’d been to you. He took in a silent breath of courage, then - as if possessed by someone who hadn’t been ignoring you for the past three days - took one of your hands in his, letting his thumb brush over your knuckles. He felt himself relax when you didn't object to his actions.
You looked down at him, and he looked up at you.
“I'm sorry.” He felt himself saying, although what happened to the child was no fault of his own.
In fact, it was either orcs or frostbite, not the King of Durinsfolk. Orcs certainly would have been a much quicker death, frostbite would've been much slower. Orcs may be cruel, but they prefer the quick death of children since they weep more than they scream. Oh, how Orcs loved to hear people scream.
“I guess it wasn’t one of those things meant to be changed.” you said, shaking your head lightly. “He must’ve meant to die. I only changed how and when. But at least he’s with his family now.”
Thorin and you shared a look, one that passed understanding between you both for a few long moments. He needed you - something really was going to happen on this journey back to his homeland. You needed him - so you could get home too.
An unspoken agreement was formed - one that would turn out to be much more effective than your old one. You’d help each other. No more pushing each other's buttons. No more getting on one another's nerves.
You’d finally get along.
Tumblr media
Close by to where you were almost made into a Troll's dinner, was a Troll hole.
The fellows in your Company were almost happy to venture in despite the smell - but you could see a few of them didn’t mind needing to say outside to keep watch though. You wanted to join them, real bad, but something deep inside you told you to go in.
Like you needed to.
It was so dark, and the smell only made your eyes water - blurring your vision even more. You pushed past it all, including the Dwarves around you making long-term investments. Something drew you towards one of the furthest corners.
You looked, seeing nothing. Kicking the dirt though proved fruitful when the sound of metal scraping along stone reached your ears. Down at your feet, among the dirt and leaf litter was the hilt of a sword.
Reaching down, you took it and brought it level to your eyes.
It’s hilt was leather bound, with a blade cover that was the length of your arm. Both were worn, old. But you took the cover off to reveal shining steel. The metal was uncarved, untouched by anything other than a forges hammer.
“You should take it.” Gandalf said. You turned to see him watching you from under the brim of his hat. “Such an unnamed sword has no history. An unwritten past. It can serve you well in the future.”
You looked down at the weapon, cradling it in both hands like a single wrong move could slice your fingers off. Gandalf was probably right - usually he was, as unfortunate as that could be sometimes. Your current sword was good, it served its purpose well and you intended for it to continue to do so, but it wasn’t made for you. It wasn’t made like this. Finely forged, and strong. This one was a better fit for you than your old one - it was too short, too heavy - this was longer, lighter.
So you took it.
Stepping out of the cave was a breath of fresh air - literally.
The smell of wet moss and dirt was so welcomed after being in that hole, even the brightness of the sun shining through the trees above was a welcomed pain to your eyes. The moment you took to appreciate the piece of world around you didn’t last long.
Panic rose in the dwarves, and you took forward to Dwalin to ask what was wrong.
“Thorin, he saw someone coming.”
“Orcs?” You asked. Maybe the new sword wasn’t a good idea - you were unable to figure out which sword to reach for now.
“Not sure what or who,” Dwalin said, “But whatever it is is coming fast, be prepared for a fight, lass.”
To be completely honest with yourself, you’d thought you’d prepared very well. Strapping your new sword across your shoulder quickly, with your old one drawn - you felt a rush run through you as if you could take on an army. But when a sled came into view - being pulled by a group of rather large hare’s, the Company met the man at the helm with confused silence.
Until Gandalf shouted out a name and moved past the group to start a hushed conversation.
“Whose that?” You asked, arms going slack at the signs of no immediate threat.
“I’d guess some other wizard by the looks of his funny hat.”
“You're one to speak Bofur.”
“He’s a strange one,” you mused, watching as Gandalf pulled a stick - a bug? A stick bug? - from the mouth of his friend. “Is it normal to see two wizards together in one place?”
“You think seeing one wizard is normal?” Kili asked in return, looking up at you with a smirk. You shoved his shoulder - their rough love was rubbing off on you.
“You are a cheeky one.” You said with a smile.
Everyone dispersed slowly, still weary of the new company and the news he might be bringing, but ready to relax with no immediate danger. Then something changed. The wind, maybe, and in the distance was a howl.
Your ears perked up, and so did everyone's guards. Shouts of warnings - Wargs and Orcs approaching - rose, and a ripple of panic went through the Company. With nowhere to hide, and your ponies spooked off into thin air (Gandalf's horse and Phar Lap included), it seemed like you were trapped. A fight was coming, and the future didn’t look so bright.
“What’s happening?” You heard. Bilbo was behind you, timidly clutching a sword - new, his, Gandalf given too no doubt - and looking none like the burglar who tried to free the ponies from trolls just hours earlier.
“Orcs, by the sounds.” He’d never seen dangers like Orcs before, you realized as you watched his eyes blow wide open. “Don’t worry, stay close to me. I’ll keep an eye on you.” He nodded, reassured by your words.
But you weren’t feeling so confident. You hadn’t really fought an Orc before - avoided blows, and ran yes, but not fight. You didn’t know if you even had the strength in you to do it. Though no time like the present to find out.
You liked this plan. It was working.
But you were running out of breath, and each time you had to be pulled - or pull others - back to hide behind a boulder out of sight of the wizard Radagast and the Orcs following him was getting to be exhausting. It was like you were going round in circles, only a matter of time before someone saw and knew the wizard was just a distraction.
The Company was running out of time.
Such a hiding place was where you found yourself. You had your sword drawn, concluding that it wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ you’d need to use it. Bilbo had listened, stickling close to you - if he wasn’t, then he was close to someone else instead, never straying far from the group.
A breath of wind brought close the sound of a Warg approaching, and you pushed closer to the rock behind you. Thorin was beside you, your head level with his. You watched as his nose flared - from the running, maybe, but he could’ve been scared like you too.
“What do we do?” You whispered, but the noise made him turn to you with a deadly look.
‘Be quiet.’ his eyes said. You swallowed thickly, and turned back to face the lands in front of you. At least if that thing bit your head off, your last sight would be a pretty golden field. Then Thorin’s shoulders slumped beside you, pressing into yours. ‘It’ll be okay.’ the action told you. ‘Stay calm.’
So you took a deep breath in, as quiet and slow as you could manage, and decided to trust him. Right now what was needed was cooperation, not panic. Following what Thorin said hadn’t served anyone wrong so far - it couldn’t fail you now.
And for a while, it didn’t. But that ‘while’ didn’t last long.
The Company was trapped.
You all crowded together, forming a circle, readying to fight Orcs and their Wargs until breath left you no more - even you, your hands weren’t as shaky as you thought they might’ve been.
Kili was shooting riders left, right, and center. Dwalin was charging towards them like he had zero value for his own life - really, you reckoned it was just him trying to get this ordeal over and done with, and honestly good for him. Bilbo was looking quite lost. You were trying to keep track of everyone while not getting in the way. And Gandalf - was nowhere to be found.
“Where is that wizard?” Fili asked. His voice travelled well.
“Left us to die by the looks.” Thorin yelled back.
“Over here you fools!” Gandalf said, suddenly popping his head up above some small rocks behind you.
“Thorin!” You yelled, pushing Bilbo towards the hiding hole as you saw you’d gained the dwarf’s attention. “Get everyone over here now!”
You ran over to Gandalf, standing on the other side of the hole and counting as each dwarf (and lone hobbit) slid inside.
Nine, ten, Bifur made twelve - but there were meant to be fourteen. Thorin was practically right in front of you, two agonizing strides and he’d be in and safe - but Kili? Kili was far, far too far away for your liking.
Thank the gods he always listened to his Uncle.
“Kili!” Thorin yelled. You watched as his nephew turned, then turned again, then - finally - started running your way.
Gandalf was in, then Kili. All that were left were you and Thorin. He turned to you, and you’d bet your life he was going to get you to go in first, but you wouldn’t have that. You wouldn’t let him.
“Age before beauty, your majesty.” And you pushed him in, sliding in right after.
Inside, everyone was huddled together, still weary, still prepared for the Orcs to follow, but a commotion started above.
The sound of a horn, horses hooves. A body rolled down in front of you, the dead body of an Orc. Nori poked it with his hammer, but it didn’t move. Then it was quiet. They were gone, and it was over.
You looked up, almost dreading the would-be climb back out - the steep slope, and the borderline mud-dirt had a picture of you covered in filth flashing over your eyelids. With your hands on your hips you were almost psyched enough to do it when Dwalin said something about a tunnel.
Slope be damned, a tunnel would be like heaven in comparison.
It took little to no convincing from anyone for you to follow it - joining the long line of travelers with Dori at your front and Balin behind you. Even Thorin’s words of aggression-lased hesitancy weren’t putting a dampener on you enjoying the walk out, rather than a climb.
Eventually the darkness gave way to light, and the tunnel opened wide. Beyond was a sight that had you standing still in awe.
Rivendell.
