He had grown up knowing and learning the traditions of his own religion and even some of the history of Christianity. While Cal didn't think they were much of an expert, they did actually like learning about it. Faith was a huge part of their life, even if their faith was not what most people followed. "It's weird. Like I get the people that celebrate Christmas as just time with family or whatever, but those that are assholes during the holidays and are actually followers of Christianity?" Cal shook their head. "There is no excuse for Karens during the holidays." He was never an asshole to retail and service workers, well at least not on purpose.

"I don't know if complicated is the right word for my family. There's really just my aunt now." Cal had never been the type to care all that much about his parents since they'd basically abandoned him all those years ago. Sometimes he thought that they might have hated him, but Cal knew that probably wasn't true. "No, we don't, but we can choose who we care about."

Cal had never cared about celebrating holidays with certain people. "Exactly. I like what I'm doing currently and I don't need to change. As much as I like the traditions that I was taught, there are different ways to go about them."

Haley nodded thoughtfully, her gaze distant for a moment as she considered his words. "I get that," she said, her voice soft but firm. "It’s weird when people don't understand why they do the things they do, especially when it's tied to something that’s meant to have meaning or history behind it." She shrugged, her expression a little more serious now. "I’m not super religious myself, but I can respect when people want to understand their roots, even if they don't practice everything to the letter."

Her eyes softened when he mentioned his aunt and the complicated relationship there. "Family can be... complicated, can't it?" she murmured, almost to herself. "We don’t always get to choose who we’re stuck with, and sometimes it’s harder to feel wanted than we’d like to admit."

Haley straightened up, offering him a sympathetic look. "I think you're right about celebrating your own way though. No sense in trying to fit into something that doesn’t feel right for you. Make your own traditions, the ones that actually make sense to you. It's your peace, after all." She gave him a small, understanding smile. "You deserve that."

Oriana noticed the small details that most people elected to ignore. Honestly, she loved that about herself. It was easy for her not to get hurt. After seeing the same patterns in people, she found it pretty easy to read people. "I do think that it's an ability that got easier with age. Seeing patterns in people. Maybe I'm better at it since I read body language from a young age." Oriana was different than most people.

"Is it." It didn't help her not get hurt. In fact, it made the hurt worse in certain situations. However, the amount of times it happened—and honestly why—was usually her own fault. "I don't know how to do that."

Haley tilted her head, a knowing glint in her eyes. "Yeah, masking’s like a survival skill for most people. It's easier to hide the messy parts than to let anyone see the cracks, right?" She shrugged, her tone casual but laced with a hint of her own experience. "And you're right—those little things? They tell the real story. Patterns don't lie."

She let out a short laugh, though it lacked humor. "Going in skeptical’s probably the safest bet. Keeps the heartache to a minimum, or so they say." Her expression softened, and she glanced away for a moment before meeting Oriana's gaze again. "But, you know, giving someone the benefit of the doubt? It’s not just about them learning. It’s about knowing when to stop offering it, too. When to stop giving and start protecting yourself."

New Stardoo game✨

For the first time ever i have completed a perfection run of Stardew Valley!

Granted, I have a ton of mods that make the game slightly easier in various ways so nowhere near as impressive as a perfection run on a vanilla file, but i’m still very pleased with myself. Normally i tend to end my playthroughs shortly after reaching Ginger Island so i’m glad i stuck it out long enough this time to complete it

some hyperfixation-related updates since i havent posted here in a while:

- definitely out of my extremely normal raúl esparza hyperfixation (still love him but i think i am genuinely normal about him now)

- idk if the x files ever got to hyperfixation level but i still have not watched season 9 and idk if i can make myself do it lol

- rewatched the owl house and had a whole like month maybe where i consumed as much fanfiction of that as i could

- i think if we're talking true hyperfixation smosh probably took raúl's place tbh. i've been watching smosh for YEARS now but in recent months (truly golden/platinum era) i've just been getting increasingly less normal about them!!! i fucking love smosh so much they are like 90% of my youtube history.

- also been getting back into anime bc my sister's roommate let me mooch on her crunchyroll premium. most recently i caught up on my hero academia (i stopped watching like halfway thru s5) and currently i'm working on black butler (book of murders & onward)

- i have been reading so much my hero academia fanfiction. if anyone has any erasermic fics lmk 👀
