man. other people have put it better than i will but... the whole situation with vash and knives and the angel arm really is assault.
vash is afraid of knives. full stop. vash is afraid.
knives triggering the angel arm is a violation of vash's bodily autonomy and then using vash to try to destroy juneora rock only compounds vash's trauma. vash already can't remember july, which implies what happened there was worse.
and with the way nightow draws the scene? vash is in pain. he hurts. he's crying, openly sobbing, doesn't want to be doing this -
knives is smiling.

I like the symbolism in Vash’s hair
Both the color - with it showing his progresion through the story and his trauma - the light hair fading as his happiness/innocence/idealism fades, as he loses more and more people
But also the length - he keeps it fairly short practical but he let’s it grow as Eriks like wariors in times of peace who let their hair grow and only cut it to combat
Which is why I really like the idea he lets his hair grow long post-trimax
The fight is over, it's time for healing

Gonna rewatch Trigun Stampede because a first watch was not enough AND I'm starting to read Trigun Maximum.
I need to indulge in this messed up series mentally and physically.

I’m interested in how season 2 of Trigun Stampede is going to play out. It looks like it will probably pick up straight from TriMax 1 with Vash as Eriks but that begs the question of if they will have a fifth moon incident?

Usually i’m not the type of person who would speculate stuff before they come out. But, I think I found an important aspect in the third preview that revealed why Vash has a $$6 million bounty instead and how Trigun Stampede might play out plotwise… or maybe just one bit of it lol.
When I was in a group chat with other Trigun fans, I was reminded that Vash had a bounty of $$6 million, but for a different reason:
Tumblr media
When this was brought up in the conversation, Vash being framed as a culprit for multiple plant robberies struck out as an important detail to me.
Okay so why is Vash getting framed such an important detail?
When rewatching the third PV for the kabillionth time, I stumbled upon this interesting shot of Knives:
Tumblr media
I like to believe that Knives was retrieving a plant here because there were glimpses of how plants looked like in this version of Trigun from the first preview:
Tumblr media
Also it’s implied that Vash tried to stop his brother from stealing the plant:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When putting it this way, it would make sense that people mistaken Vash as the culprit for stealing plants because him and Knives look alike. But that leaves another question though.
Why was Knives stealing plants in the first place?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Possibly because of this.
The ark incident’s gonna happen yall.

ok i watched episode 16 of trigun 98 and i have a Few Thoughts, but the biggest ones are:
HE PISSSED ON THE MOOOOOON
&
Is This Some Sort Of Twisted Christian Science?
no joke i had to pause the video for the twisted christian science thing bc i was laughing so fucking hard i was nearly choking. thanks, rai-dei
& of course the Moon Beam which was expected. what WASNT expected was the fact that Legato caused it instead of Knives. but knowing what happened in chapter 32 of trimax, it's not entirely out of the realm of the manga's canon either. but i Am sad about how we didnt get to see the #Looks both Vash and Knives served in the fifth moon incident in the manga. man.
interesting implications all around. im wondering where the Fuck knives is, bc we saw in the manga that he was regenerating, but now it's like. where tf is he, actually? we've only gotten snapshots of him so far. the briefest of thoughts. episode 16 and we're only just now getting direct confirmation that Vash is VERY not human (plus a confirmation that July was set 23 years ago in the anime, which is an added weirdness for new watchers who dont know about him being functionally immortal)
preview of the next episode shows that it's Backstory Episode. im done watching for today but im looking forward to seeing what the anime sets for that
#speculation nation#fanny watches trigun#trigun spoilers/#still laughing at the twisted christian science. it's like. honestly? he's not that far off#considering the plants are like. angelic in nature. and also genetically engineered beings.#which that sure sounds like some twisted christian science to me!#love that this is the first time we actually see wolfwood kill someone too#all the times we've seen him before this in the anime he's spared ppl bc Vash was there#but he just shot rai-dei no problem. kablammo#a lil sad it's not accompanied by the vashwood argument & iconic gun to head moment. but ya win some ya lose some i guess#overall im watching this without expectations of it following what im familiar with in the manga#for the original manga it was taking the events and shuffling them around Anyways#and now that we're beyond the original manga. all bets are off. i have no idea where things are going from here on.#im genuinely pretty surprised by the fact that they changed the location of the fifth moon incident#like why move it to Augusta instead of Jeneora? Augusta is Not Close to Jeneora either#a good 1000km if im remembering right. quite a ways to travel.#it's interesting to see the view of Augusta. bc i dont think it's shown in the manga. hmm#this makes me wonder where the fuck Lina & Sheryl are living. bc it's not May city and it's not Augusta. but it's close to Jeneora#Jeneora is the way point between May and Augusta. that's stated in the manga.#but if it's not Augusta and it's not May. where is it? some random tiny town that happens to be by Jeneora?#idk. many questions. the anime is only making my idea of geography in this damned manga even more convoluted#i do really need to put together that official resource for myself for notes on locations. ive been idly collecting things for this purpose#bits here and there. any mentions of locations. and there are so many. but so few definite facts for where any of this is#oh trigun why must you be so convoluted... why couldnt we get a fucking MAP... and no im not counting tristamp's map#theyve changed shit anyways. i want to know where shit is in the MANGA ok#many thoughts. i am so frustrated by geography. is there anywhere that says what the population of noman's land is?
how many people were on those ships. how many people isn't enough to start a colony on another planet.
obv the current population would be a lot less than that number bc of the fall + almost definite population decline before it would start evening out and possibly even increasing again

Yeah. Yeah. Lost July, which Vash’s mind completely blocked out (common trauma response yay, 🤝), was very similar. But this time, he remembers it and the experience shifted something in his brain. I’ve heard someone say that there’s a definite tone shift between Trigun and Trigun Maximum, and while that’s partially due to irl publishing issues and the genre change, I think it’s also narratively due to Fifth Moon.
Post-Fifth Moon, Vash is even more depressed and even more goofy to hide it. He knows now, like really knows, that he’s a weapon of mass destruction, and he has no idea how to control it, and it terrifies him. He takes his stance on morality and killing way more seriously. The stakes are higher; he remembers that now.
Knives tried to use him to show him his point of view and it backfired because Knives just doesn’t understand his brother at all. He never even cared to try, too consumed by his own fear and desperation.

😭😭😭 In an earlier volume, Vash says he would hate himself if he gave up the hunt for Knives, but the fear of destroying the planet was so intense that he did it anyway 😭
In relation to my other post about how he wanted a 12 year old to ignore being sexually harassed, this is good reminder that we're seeing Vash at his weakest right now. He didn't believe that being a pacifist means accepting people doing horrible things to you. But the 5th Moon Incident was so traumatic that he seems to have dug his heels even deeper into his pacifistic philosophy
Something about trauma turning you into something you don't want to be, someone you don't recognize

I think chapter 2 of TriMax Volume 6 might just be my favorite thus far. Everything in it hinges on this one iconic scene.
Tumblr media
This isn't the first time Wolfwood has pointed a gun at Vash's head. Maybe it won't even be the last. But it holds a bit more weight here because just a few pages ago, we saw a flashback where Wolfwood pointed his gun at someone else's head.
Tumblr media
His hand shakes as he aims at Knives. His breath is heavy, and the memory of the Fifth Moon incident is fresh in his mind. He knows if he can just pull the trigger, he can end it here. This being of destruction will be gone, and maybe this time his fancy scientists won't be able to bring him back.
But then Knives does Plant things, and under the weight of it Wolfwood finds he just can't follow through. He fears his own death too much, and Knives will surely kill him.
Tumblr media
When he points his gun at Vash, it's different. His hand is steady, his breath calm. The memory of everything that happened at the Dragon's Nest is fresh in his mind; just this morning he warned Meryl that she and Milly should remember that, despite his ideals, Vash is still a loose cannon that they'd do well to avoid. He thinks to himself that if he can just pull the trigger, if he can just take out the less intimidating of the brothers, then one of these monstrous twins and half of the problem will be gone.
This time, there's no crushing sensation of oppression. There's no air of fear and malice. There are no threats or memories of twisted promises. There's only a look, wary and concerned...
Tumblr media
...but even by the time this happens, Wolfwood has already lowered his gun. He's decided not to pull the trigger, not because of an immediate threat on his life, but because... well, it's Vash.
Wolfwood surely knows that if he pulls that trigger, he catastrophically fails his mission, and whatever consequences might await him on the far side of such a failure aren't going to be anywhere near pleasant. But it doesn't seem like it's fear of Knives that makes him lower his gun. At the very, very least, Wolfwood knows no one stands a better chance at taking down Knives, but he also knows Vash. He's seen Vash's fake smiles and knows his real ones. He understands Vash's ideals despite very much not wanting to and not knowing how he could possibly accept them for himself. He's fought side by side with Vash, and been standing at his back since day 1.
And before this night is out, only a few minutes after pulling a gun on Vash, Wolfwood's right back there again, moving in tandem with Vash, being a human shield so they can accomplish Vash's goals together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's only when the fight comes to a close that Wolfwood realizes that's what he's been doing. He didn't put any thought into falling in step behind Vash, didn't dwell on the fact that Vash trusted and moved with him during the fight. It's only afterwards, when they stop to catch their breath, that he realizes Vash hasn't looked his way through the whole battle. That Vash didn't need to look his way through the whole battle.
Not only did Vash trust Wolfwood at his back, but he knows Wolfwood well enough to move intuitively around him, not hesitating and always understanding what Wolfwood's about to do. And at that moment, Wolfwood realizes two things:
First, that there's no way Vash didn't notice when Wolfwood pointed a gun at him. If Knives could figure it out while half dead and barely knowing Wolfwood, then Vash, who's awake, alert, and has spent plenty of time with Wolfwood, can surely figure it out.
And second, that when he's fighting back to back with Vash, nothing else really matters. All his (quite legitimate) fears about what Vash is and how dangerous he can be, about Knives, about finishing his job, about what he himself has become... they all melt away. He's where he needs to be, where he should be, and that's all there is to it.
