The Neon Void: Ratings and Chapter List
Personal thoughts on chapter below cut (Contains Spoilers)
Raph opened the subway car’s door for his brothers. It creaked as it slid. Raph swallowed the lump in his throat to see Leo’s room. Master Splinter was inside with a rag in hand, wiping down the shelves, but careful to put the scattered knickknacks back in the same exact spot as they had been. They hadn’t moved since the day Leo…Well…Pops tried to keep everything as it has been since then.
I've seen people portray Splinter in a wide manner of ways, but this is just downright precious!! Splinter being so caring and kind warms my heart!! It's nice to see him involved in the boys lives.
He must have been in here all day dusting—he liked to do that often. They had cleaned Leo’s room up a bit over the years, but they tried to keep things the same as much as they could. The desk had been cleared to make room for incense burners and a spot for food offerings. A family-sized bento box was centered on the desk, serving as the elevated stand for the gifts. Oddly appropriate, since it was a lunch box. They had made Leo’s messy bed—though no one dared to sit on it.
*Spoilers for later in the story in this paragraph* AAAAA oh my gosh, rereading this made me go crazy!! The foreshadowing is insane!! I never would have guessed!! Seriously though, I'm not gonna say what's got me panicking, cause that'd be to big of a spoiler. But props to the author for such good foreshadowing!!
“It only looks like he can,” Donnie started to explain. “Draxum helped me study Mayhem’s ability a few years ago—it turns out Mayhem was shrinking himself and squeezing through a very tiny portal.” Everyone at the table made confused sounds of surprise. Donnie, however, felt pretty hollow on the inside. Yup. Turned out Mayhem couldn’t teleport. He used a portal, like anyone with warp magic compatibility could use. His species of yokai could just…get really small. And make others small with him. When Donnie had discovered that… he had been a little crushed, honestly. But he never let that show to Draxum. He probably guessed what Donnie was after to begin with– but just didn’t say anything. Maybe it was his way of letting him… sort out his feelings. But Donnie didn’t get results. Mayhem’s involvement in Donnie’s… research came to a full stop after that revelation.
This little explanation was so fun to read!! Because as stated before, portaling and teleporting are entirely different concepts, and it was nice to see this explained in an even greater detail. Also, more foreshadowing ^^ This fic is definitely one to read more than once if you wish to catch all the hidden details.

Ficfinder finds: The Neon Void
Rottmnt Fanfic Summary:
Five years. It's been five years.
Hamato Leonardo was b͕̱ͮ̉͐͊ác͎̯̯̈͗͐͑ͯ͑̚k̦
But he was no longer who he once was.
The Neon Void: Appraisal and Ratings
(Don't know what fanfic "Appraisal and Ratings" means? Check out my explanation on my Main Masterpost! Looking for a different fanfic to read? Head on over to my Fanfic List Masterpost!)
Disclaimer: This fanfic is completed, and is written by @sugarpasteltmnt, so go show them some love and kindness!
The fanfic ratings are not based on quality, favoritism, or how good I think it is, but rather, how intense a subject may be. Like a movie review, or the tags on Ao3, letting the readers know what to expect.
Plot: 💛💛💛💛💛
"Plot is five out of five! The plot for The Neon Void is unique, fun to read, riveting, and intricate! I've seen many post invasion fanfics that address Leo returning late, but this one takes the cake for most creative! I'd say the plot itself isn't to confusing of a read, though it is very interesting."
Suspense/Mystery: 💛💛💛💛💛
"Suspense/Mystery is a full on five out of five!! Oh man, the amount of suspense in this fanfic is crazy!! Its the kind of suspense that's stressful, because the reader knows exactly what's going on, or who a certain main character may be (wiggles eyebrows) but the characters in the fanfic have no clue!! You gonna be sitting there the whole time going, "Oh come on, he's right there!! JUST REALIZE ALREADY PLEASE!!"
Angst/Hurt: 💛💛💛🖤🖤
"Angst/Hurt is three out of five. The hurt in this story is really top notch. The emotions, the feelings, the broken hearts, its just all so good! This is the kind of angst that feels less triggering, and more so heartbreaking. You just want it to be ok."
Fluff/Comfort: 💛💛💛💛🖤
"Fluff/Comfort gets a four out of five!! The comfort in this fic is so well written!! Warm and special, catered to match perfectly with the hurt in this fic. I would describe the hugs that happen in The Neon Void, to be warm and gentle on the soul."
Emotions Conveyed: 💛💛🖤🖤🖤
"Emotions Conveyed is two out of five!! While this fanfic had some powerful, emotional scenes that did make me get a little teary eyed, smiley, or stressed, I wouldn't say this fanfic will heavily influence your emotions. If you want an something that's enjoyable to read, has angst and comfort in it, and won't completely mess with your head, The Neon Void is the one for you!!"
Drama/Tension Level:💛💛💛🖤🖤
"Drama/Tension Level is three out of five!! Suspense is higher for this chapter, though don't get me wrong, The Neon Void has plenty of enjoyable drama!"
Triggers: 💛💛💛🖤🖤
"Triggers are three out of five!! The Neon Void is right in the middle when it comes to triggering content. A good in the middle read, with just the right amount of triggers to make it dark, and suspenseful, while not being an overwhelming read."
Legibility (Reading): 💛💛💛💛💛
"Legibility (Reading) is five out of five!! Absolutely this one gets a five! The Neon Void has a crazy writing style for Leo, where his words get all distorted!! Very fun to read!! Plus, occasionally the chapters have art to go along with, so that creates another very fun element."
Legibility (Audio): 💛🖤🖤🖤🖤
"Legibility (Audio) is one out of five! Due to the writing style, and the symbols used to distort some of the words and sentences, The Neon Void is not the most fun to listen to. Listening to it, would mean losing some of the authors incredible stylistic writing, and while the work itself is written expertly well, The Neon Void is simply more fun to read rather than listen to."
Length: 💛💛💛🖤🖤
"Length is three out of five!! The Neon Void is a grand total of 27 chapters and a word count of 169k words, with each chapter taking 20-45 minutes to read!!"

Plot: 💛💛💛💛🖤
"Plot is four out of five!! Immediately, the plot for this story shows right up. This is in no way a slow burn story, jumping right into the drama at first chance."
Suspense/Mystery: 💛💛💛💛🖤
"Suspense/Mystery is four out of five!! Chapter two is filled with mystery regarding who The Neon Void is, along with the suspense of a good fight!! This chapter will have you on the edge of your seat!!"
Angst/Hurt:💛 🖤🖤🖤🖤
"Angst/Hurt is one out of five!! Minimal angst, mostly action and excitement for this chapter!! ^^"
Fluff/Comfort: 💛🖤🖤🖤🖤
"Fluff/Comfort is one out of five!! Once again, very little fluff, just as there is very little angst. Simply a thrilling chapter indeed!!"
Emotions Conveyed: 💛💛🖤🖤🖤
"Emotions Conveyed is two out of five!! Chapter two of The Neon Void is definitely a thrilling chapter. This chapter is less about the feels and more about the excitement as it plunges right into a good plot!!"
Drama/Tension Level: 💛💛💛💛💛
"Drama/Tension Level is five out of five!! Absolutely, the drama is a five for this chapter!! Between the fight scenes, and the wild craziness of The Neon Void, this chapter has a ton of action!!"
Triggers: 💛🖤🖤🖤🖤
"Triggers are one out of five!! This chapter is minimally triggering. The only thing to look out for, is your classic TMNT violence ^^"
Legibility (Reading): 💛💛💛💛💛
"Legibility (Reading) is five out of five!! This chapter was incredibly fun to read!! The funky fonts used are really fun to look at, and add such a cool element to the story!!"
Legibility (Audio): 💛💛🖤🖤🖤
"Legibility (Audio) is two out of five! While the story itself is good for listening to, the funky fonts mess with reading quality, making it hard to understand. This chapter is much better read than listened to for sure!! Plus, there's fanart imbedded into the bottom of the chapter than you wouldn't want to miss."
Length: 💛💛💛🖤🖤
"Length is three out of five!! Chapter two of The Neon Void takes about 21-22 minutes to listen too!!"

The Neon Void: Ratings and Chapter List
Personal thoughts on chapter below cut (Contains Spoilers)
The design for The Neon Void is such a fun and colorful one!!
There was a loud snapping sound. The yokai glitched. Shuttering in the air—looking like what old 3D movies looked like without the glasses—before coming back into focus two feet to the left from where he just was. Huh—?
I can't imagine how cool this actually looked!!
“SØⱤⱤɎ. ł ĐØ₦'₮ Ⱨ₳VɆ ₮ł₥Ɇ ₮Ø ₱Ⱡ₳Ɏ. ₲Ø₮ ₱Ⱡ₳₵ɆS ₮Ø ฿Ɇ. ⱧɆⱧɆ.”
I have no idea how the author got his effect, but its darn freaking cool looking!!
“…What in sweet Marie Curie’s name was that about?” Donnie was the first to break the silence. Raph was too shaken by the echo of the yokai’s laughter in his head to respond. Mikey dissipated his chains with a sizzle, exhaling a loud gasp. The three brothers sat still for a minute. Stunned.
Random fact because who doesn't like facts? Marie Curie was a Polish and naturalised-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She did a ton of research on a cure for cancer!! There you are, fact of the day!!
“I don’t know what he was looking for,” Big Mama sighed, “He was pestering me about some fibble-fabble ‘key’.” Big Mama clearly didn’t notice the boys freezing. Donnie felt the color drain from his face. A…key? A key to what? It could have meant a million things— there were countless possibilities to what it was probably for…the chances of it being that key were practically nonexistent…Right? Donnie’s feeble hope for reassurance from his brothers shattered when he glanced over and saw their faces. He could tell they were wondering the same thing he was.
Right when Big Mama said something about a 'key' my mind immediately jumped to the same conclusion that the brothers came up with. Its kinda fun to realize things like that.
“To teleport, you wouldn’t bend the space around you—you’d have to bend every molecule in your body at the same time. It would be like performing brain surgery, calculating the trajectory of a flying rocket, and folding YOURSELF into an impossible origami shape all at the same time!” He threw his hands up, exasperated, “That, AND there’s no risk of portal-jacking. A perfect, instantaneous, limitless control. ALL while having more power than several atomic bombs! It’s literally the holy grail of transportation! The highest score imaginable!”
The way this concept is explained is immaculate!! How portaling and teleportation differs, how one is easier while the other is dangerous. The whole concept of this is creative, unique, yet draws on knowledge we already have.

The Neon Void: Ratings and Chapter List
Personal thoughts on chapter below cut (Contains Spoilers)
To start off, I'd like to talk about the chapter name. Mandarin Oranges. Mandarin oranges are symbolic for good fortune, happiness, and wealth, so it would make sense that Splinter would want them for the Shrine, especially since giving mandarin oranges to others is originally a Japanese custom.
In regards to how it fits as a chapter name, it could just be that the boys going and buying mandarin oranges led to them seeing the happenings at the Nexus Hotel. It could also be more symbolic than that. The oranges are supposed to bring good fortune. Seeing the Nexus Hotel get attacked was actually in their favor, especially with who attacked it. Anyways, moving on before I spoil something XD.
I absolutely adore the designs the boys have in this fic!! Different, yet similar to what I've seen before.
I literally can't get over how much I love the atheistic design of how scenes are separated!
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
I mean, look at that!! It looks like chains!! Very cool in my opinion.
The novelty treat fell to the ground as Raph rushed to shield his brothers. It had been sheer instinct. A muscle memory carved into his very bones. The loud sound of something exploding had him grabbing his brothers and holding them close faster than the ice cream bar could hit the sidewalk.
While reading this bit, I was distinctly reminded of the many times in rise where Raph easily scoops up all three of his brothers to carry them around, hold them, and hug them. How easily he can fit all three in his arms. Then I realized he's only holding two brothers, and my heart hurt.
