Christmas with the Keeners A fic with @starkercreamery
After Peter's friend/fuck buddy Harley Keener complains for a whole night about how his older sister is bringing her hot-shot older CEO boyfriend to family Christmas, Peter agrees to play the loving partner. It's better than being alone for Christmas, like last year. When Tony's girlfriend Pepper says her mother is demanding she bring him home to meet him, he agrees, figuring it's better than moping around an empty apartment with memories of last Christmas gone wrong. Who knew a trio of scheming siblings, a postcard-perfect farm in Tennesee, a kitten named Bread, and a little Christmas magic might be just what Tony and Peter need to right the wrongs from last year and ensure a lifetime of Christmas chaos to come?
You can read Christmas with the Keeners [here]

Note
Hello, I was wondering if you can find a fic where Tony and Pepper rented a cabin for Christmas I think. They bring Harley and Peter with them and it end it up haunted. It started to affect Peter like he was getting bruises or scratches out of nowhere. Somebody hung themselves in the attic a long time ago but they didn’t know until they researched about it. Sorry if it isn’t specific enough! Always love your guys work!! Thank you
could this be the one?
no one dared disturb the sound of silence by ironmanisalive
The Stark family is on vacation in Vermont when Peter starts getting mysterious bruises and seeing things throughout the house. Will they get out in time? This is a standalone fic in this AU, you don't need to read the rest of the series. But you should anyway!

Tony Adopts Peter Masterlist
along came the spiders (ao3) - Areiton steve/tony M, 13k
Summary: Tony meets Peter first.
OR: Tony adopts three spiderlings.
A New Addition (ao3) - Xiphos_Silver G, 1k
Summary: The grandeur of Stark Tower becomes the backdrop for Peter's introduction to his newfound life with Tony. However, as unexpected challenges arise and the media catches wind of Tony's adoption, the Stark family must navigate the complexities of parenthood and the scrutiny of public attention.
Calm down Peter, its only the AVENGERS (ao3) - Idek_Anymore T, 98k
Summary: May Parker gets shot on her midnight trip to the local corner store for ice cream. Peter now had no living relatives left, and now he truly knew that nothing is worth living for. But then Tony Stark takes him in, with no hesitation of adopting him on the spot.
Ever since then, things go smoothly. Tony and Peter get closer than ever, and Peter even starts to call him dad (but only around the people he is close to, like Pepper and Rhodey, because no one can know that Peter is adopted by Tony). Actually, its perfect; Peter finally has a family and life. School ends as well, and summer finally arrives after a long wait.
Then the Avengers are pardoned, and Tony decides to house them in the tower with himself and Peter; basically opening his private life to a bunch of traitors. But it’s fine, he wants them back; he wants his old family back so much. Things only go haywire after that.
D-Daddy? (ao3) - ChocolateAndRedbull G, 1k
Summary: When Tony’s adopted son isn’t feeling well, it’s his responsibility to look after him
From Now On (ao3) - buckleyirondad T, 201k
Summary: The Parker Family worked alongside the Starks since the creation of the company.
Following a tragic accident that leaves Peter Parker without a family, Tony goes against the pleas of the people closest to him and decides to adopt Peter. The duo fight against unpredictable odds as they enter a universe bigger than they truly understand. [Pre-Iron Man through to Endgame]
From the Ashes (ao3) - JAWorley pepper/tony T, 25k
Summary: Midtown Tech burns down during the second week of school. Faced with all of the students having to transfer to other schools for the rest of the year, including Peter, Tony decides to offer the first three floors of Stark Tower (which are mostly empty because they were being renovated) to Midtown. That way his kid won’t have to transfer schools and lose his friends.
OR
Mr. Morita asks Tony why he’s doing this, and Tony says it’s for his kid, but doesn’t specify who that is.
A fun fic with mostly outsider POV’s and some angst. Does this count as a Peter’s Field Trip To Stark Industries story? I don’t know. Is it outlandish? Absolutely.
Peter Parker's Best Birthday Ever (ao3) - MelissaBosquez pepper/tony G, 3k
Summary: Peter overhears a conversation and is convinced that he is going to be sent back into foster care, but not everything is as it seems.
Some Things Just Work Out (In The End) (ao3) - alphera G, 2k
Summary: Richard Parker happens to be Tony Stark’s only college friend. So when Richard dies and his only son Peter is in danger, Tony steps up. In other words, a Tony-adopts-baby!Peter story.
so this is christmas (war is over) (ao3) - ErrorInLoading pepper/tony T, 3k
Summary: Tony Stark has been visiting the local orphanage for longer than he had been Iron Man. It was some stupid thing that Pepper suggested that he do for the publicity, but as soon as Tony met 4 year old Peter Parker, everything changed.
And it just so happens that Christmas is around the corner. Tony makes it his mission to give poor Peter whatever he wants.
Stark Men Are Made Of Hope (ao3) - Gothic_Lolita G, 5k
Summary: After the aftermath of the 'Civil War' ordeal settles, Tony meets Harley Keener again. And accidentally adopts him. Then accidentally adopts Peter Parker. Well, Tony never really was one for thinking these things through.
syncopation (ao3) - macabre G, 5k
Summary: Tony isn’t sure how he ended up with a kid who doesn’t talk; the cynics would call it karma he guesses, or maybe the universe thinks it’s funny. It’s one of the first thing that absolutely everyone who meets Peter remarks - wow, he’s quiet, but hey! I guess you talk enough for the two of you, Tony!
(AU: Peter is on the spectrum and nonverbal. This does not make him less of a genius or less of Tony's precious kid.)
The World Is Cruel (But You Are Strong) (ao3) - half_baked_ideas T, 2k
Summary: That day was the anniversary of Ben’s death two years earlier, they had planned to go put flowers on Ben’s grave after May got off work, she had even picked up flowers on her way back.
They never did, instead, Peter spent that evening curled up in an uncomfortable plastic hospital chair, crying over the loss of his Uncle and Aunt.
That was until a certain billionaire showed up.
Tony’s Kid (ao3) - orphan_account G, 17k (WIP)
Summary: When an unkown kid is left of Tony’s doorstep, of course he’d be apprehensive about taking the child. but after spending sometime with the child, and running a DNA test on him, Tony learns that the random child is one of his old colleagues kid, Richard Parker. When he tries to figure out why Peter was left with him and how to get him back with his parents, Tony learns the truth.
A.K.A. Peter gets left on Tony’s doorstep (literally), Tony learns he knew Peter’s father who is now dead, along with Peter’s remaining family. Tony decides to adopt Peter, then everything goes to shit.
Two Worlds, One Family (ao3) - mainstreamelectricalparade G, 19k
Summary: It wasn’t exactly a secret that Tony Stark frequently visited a nearby children’s home to hang out with the kids and, more often than not, snuggle a baby or two.It was only inevitable that two of those babies would end up stealing his heart.
You Will Be Found (ao3) - baloobird T, 39k
Summary: Today is going to be a good day and here’s why:
Tony Stark is officially adopting Peter Parker.
He’s damn near shaking as he signs the adoption papers, causing his signature to be sloppier than usual but as long as it gets processed, he doesn’t give a shit what it looks like.
The man can feel his almost-kid bouncing next to him, knees acting like bobbleheads and his sneakers’ taps echo through the courthouse as he’s jostling his backpack.
But not with dread by any means.

Ship Headcanons - Ada/Leon
Thank you for the tag, @lordbhreanna!!
Gives forehead/nose kisses: Leon in his softer moments would do this, or Ada may sneak a forehead kiss while Leon is asleep. He's very affectionate with her. Sometimes Ada has to ask him to ease off a little or she gets overwhelmed.
Gets jealous the most: Leon, but it’s never that serious. I headcanon them in an open relationship post re4r.
Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive: Ada.
Takes care of on sick days: Both. I’d say this is one of those times when Ada can express her care and tenderness for Leon, by looking after him.
Drags the other person out into the water on beach day: Ada, if Leon is being gloomy. Unless it’s off season and cold, then they might settle for walking alongside the surf together in their winter coats.
Gives unprompted massages: Fortunately for Leon, Ada has a skill for this.
Drives/rides shotgun: Depends. If they’re pressed for time, Ada drives; out of the two, she is the one with a keener sense of direction, and she’s faster on the road. "You can be the DJ, Leon."
Brings the other lunch at work: I can see Leon giving Ada a little something for the road, when they’re older.
Has the better parental relationship: Ada because she has none (out of choice) and the closest she will get to raising another living thing is a happy little vegetable garden in her 40s.
Tries to start role-playing in bed: Ada would start a conversation about this. She is more open about what she likes, whereas Leon has been playing one role in the bedroom for so long that he *thinks* it's what he likes until Ada gently breaks through to him. Admittedly this takes a lot of patience and good humor on her part. I don’t know. Could be hot to write haha. Maybe for my drabble fic?
Embarrassingly drunk dancer: Leon with his love for soul music, jazz and 50s crooning oldies. Picture them dancing in the darkest part of the morning, and he’s holding her, fingertip to fingertip, and they’re quietly swaying to Etta James singing “Stormy Weather.” The alcohol makes it feel like they’re outside time for a bit. As for Ada, I doubt she would get that drunk and vulnerable so soon. But let’s say she does. She drinks until a dreamy slowness takes over her body, and her hand movements are grand and delicate and sweeping the sky fully. Do you know this scene from the film Burning? I imagine it’s like that. “Summertime” by Sam Cooke would be perfect for Ada.
Still cries watching Titanic: Leon, probably. He would have to be drunk. Sleepy drunk. Maybe it’s the scene leading up to the scientists’ interview with Rose (scientists or treasure hunters? lol idk) when a little robot is sent to investigate the Titanic’s ruins underwater. Leaning into the image through tears, Rose follows the slow, drifting passage the camera makes through each darkened room, sifting through debris and gradually illuminating the wreckage. It’s heartbreaking to watch the sorrowful recognition on her face as the camera pushes on. There isn’t much visibility down there. No sound either. But you can hear, in the depths of Rose’s memory, music fading in and out of time, and the ship’s decayed and empty corridors flash to a night when it was once full, rippling with light and so much life. I really do believe places hold the imprint of people (yes, even music) inside. I think Leon would too.
Firmly believes in couples costumes: Ada. She would be dazzling as Trinity from The Matrix.
Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas: Ada again!
Makes the other eat breakfast: Leon cooks if there’s enough time in the morning.
Remembers anniversaries: What anniversary lol? If they’re celebrating anything, it would be Wesker’s death.
Brings up having kids: Out of curiosity, Ada. She likes hearing him talk about these things, not necessarily kids, but a possible life, one that exists in the space between imagination and the circumstances of their reality, a life expanded by a conversation they return to again and again for comfort. In an alternate timeline, she wonders, who would they be? For Ada, it’s this mutual dreaming that borders something like magic. It is a place where she finds joy, ordinary and wondrous.
I love writing into this space when it comes to these two partly because such ordinary moments of joy aren’t promised for them. Nothing in their world is. And I don’t think that changes until years after Lanshiang when Ada begins to hope, truly allows herself to hope, for a gentler way of living (one of my unpublished WIPs is about this). It begins with Leon sharing one story of a possible world and she tells him another. Tell me about the things you love. And why.
Tagging @frozen-fountain, @pink-strawberry-kissess and anyone else who wants to do this. It can be any ship you want!
if you found this by accident, hello! I'm a small writer with a few aeon fics on AO3. I know it's not much :) but I’m happy you’re here!

ahhh thank u for tagging me <3 I have the taste in movies of a middle school girl but we're going to ignore that haha
The Muppets (2011) - tbh I would count anything with the muppets as comforting but specifically this one is just <3
Iron Man 3 - 12 yr old me wanted to be friends with Harley Keener, 17 year old me is begging Marvel to bring him back. I've read every peter x harley fic on the internet.
Bedtime Stories - my dumbass 9 yr old self spent years wanting to make s'mores on a hotel roof bc of this movie
Night at the Museum; Secret of the Tomb - this is actually a brand new addition but I am legitimately getting "I don't know what I'm gonna do tomorrow" "how exciting" tattooed on my body in some form.
The Game Plan - I grew up on this movie, this movie introduced me to the Rock.
Good Luck Charlie: It's Christmas - Don't even ask, I've watched this movie so much my mom is sick of it. I will be watching it at 12:01 am November first.
The Santa Clause - as literally dumb as it is I legitimately feel like nothing in the world can go wrong when I'm watching this movie. If the world is ending just put on this movie and i'll forget about it.
@rosethreeart @teagrammy @bone-evidence @roszabell (obvi no pressure <3)

Title: Mistletoe and Holly
Word Count: 1,278
Warnings: none
AO3 Link: x
Summary: No one in Stark Tower really celebrates Christmas, but the season still grows on people on occasion.
~~~
“What’s your favorite thing about Christmas?”
“What?” Harley glanced up from the book he was reading.
“What’s your favorite thing about Christmas,” he repeated.
“I don’t celebrate Christmas. Also aren’t you Jewish?”
Peter flopped down on the couch next to him. “I mean yeah, but like, even just the time of year is kinda cool in terms of aesthetics. You’re telling me there’s nothing you like about it?”
Harley sighed, leaning over to set his book down. “Not really? Honestly most people in the Tower don’t make a huge deal out of Christmas. Steve and James are Jewish so they have their own thing. Pops asked if I wanted to be included actually, which was sweet but honestly I don’t know if I could. Thor still doesn’t understand the holiday even after Bruce tried to explain it to him, but it’s not like he celebrates either. Something about the over commercialization of it I think makes him a bit green. Clint and Nat both grew up in places where the happiness of children was punished and therefore have a much more negative view of Christmas than the rest of us. Dad and I both have less than good memories of Christmas, even if it did bring us together.”
“But you have a tree up,” Peter argued.
“That’s all Pepper. It’s a PR thing I guess. Something about needing a tree in the common area to not piss off the American people or some bullshit. We still have a menorah visible on the mantle as well, but that actually has meaning to some people.”
“That’s… completely fair actually.”
“Yeah.” Harley stared at the tree. “I love the argument that Christmas was a pagan holiday stolen by Christians for their own purposes, but it still can’t make me like the holiday.”
“Did you celebrate before you met Tony?” Peter asked.
“I mean yeah? Everyone did in Rose Hill. It was obviously hyped up Jesus bullshit, but everyone was involved.” He laughed, but it sounded hollow. “It’s probably part of the reason I hate it so much.”
Peter nodded, allowing them to lapse into silence for a few moments before Harley piped back up.
“Why do you ask?”
“Oh, well, I was just curious I guess. Even though I’m Jewish, I still love certain things about Christmas. I just wondered if you did too.”
“What’s your favorite thing then?”
Peter considered the question for a moment before hopping out of his seat, phone in hand. “You want me to show you?” he asked.
“Do I actually get a choice?”
“Not really. Text your dads and tell them we’ll be back in a bit.”
~~~
10 minutes later, they were speeding out of the garage with Peter in the driver’s seat headed God knows where.
“Can you at least give me a hint as to where we’re going, dear?”
“No can do sugarbear,” Peter answered. “I promise it won’t take long to get there.”
After Peter had dragged him down to the garage, he’d selected a set of keys to one of the cars and plugged his phone into the speaker system before Harley had managed to latch his seatbelt. Now, Christmas music was streaming quietly, and Harley had to admit that it wasn’t the worst thing in the world.
Peter drove through the city, heading out of Manhattan entirely. Traffic was lighter than Harley’d expected, but he supposed more people had decided to stay in with their families given the snow and the cold.
Once they’d gotten out of the city, Peter started making turns seemingly at random until they reached the top of a hill overlooking New York. He pulled over and parked the car, jumping out and opening Harley’s door before he could reach for the door handle himself.
“Here,” Peter said, pulling him closer to the outlook. “This is my favorite thing about Christmas.”
Below them, New York was lit up like, well, a Christmas tree. As far as the eye could see, Christmas lights were scattered between buildings.
It was breathtaking.
“Oh,” Harley breathed.
Peter hummed before stepping back slightly, tapping something on his phone screen.
“Wanna dance with me?”
Silver Bells began filtering its way through the speakers of Peter’s phone, and Harley couldn’t help but laugh as he let Peter pull him closer so they could dance.
“You’re a sap, sweetheart.”
“Your sap, angel.”
He laughed again before leaning down to kiss his boyfriend. “You’re unbelievably cute.”
Peter blushed, and Harley didn’t even hesitate before peppering his cheeks with even more kisses.
“Dork.”
“Mhm.”
~~~
They took the long way home, weaving their way through residential neighborhoods and back streets to look at more lights. It was at least another hour before they stumbled back out of the elevator into the penthouse with Harley attempting to sing his way through Mistletoe and Holly.
“Hey, welcome home,” James greeted them.
“And speaking of mistletoe,” Tony pointed up.
Sure enough, there was a sprig of mistletoe hanging above the elevator. Peter reached up to give Harley a quick kiss before dragging him into the nearest chair, still giggling.
“You kids have a good time?” Tony asked.
“Yeah,” they both answered in chorus.
“What’re you watching?” Harley asked, glancing at the TV screen.
“We were about to watch It’s a Wonderful Life. You wanna join us?”
“Sure!” Peter answered.
“There’s popcorn and soda in the kitchen. We’ll wait to start the movie until you get back.”
“Thanks dad, pops,” Harley said, kissing his dads on the cheek as he passed.
“I’ll grab a blanket!” Peter called as Harley went to grab the snacks.
Once they settled in to watch the movie, Peter tucked into Harley’s side, Tony hit play. The movie was comforting, nostalgic even. Harley had almost managed to drop off by the end, the warm weight of Peter enough to calm him into a light doze.
“C’mon, old man,” Peter's voice floated in, coaxing him awake. “Time for bed.”
“‘M not old.”
“No you’re not honey, but you still need to come to bed.”
“Tomorrow’s Christmas, kids. Team breakfast is still standing even if we don’t celebrate,” Tony said, keeping his voice low so as not to disturb them too much.
“Goodnight boys, sleep well,” James whispered as he walked out of the room.
Peter finally managed to get Harley out of the chair and down the hall to his room. “You wanna cuddle?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“Okay. I’ll be right back okay? Just want to change into pajamas.”
Harley nodded and Peter ran across the hall to his own room. He took the time to throw on a pair of sweats, and in no time, Peter was back.
Within moments of them being tangled together, Peter started to doze off on Harley’s chest. Despite being almost asleep moments earlier, Harley couldn’t seem to do the same.
Something just kept nagging at him.
“Hey Peter?”
“Hmm?” Peter lifted his head to look at him. “What’s up?”
“Just out of curiosity, how did you find that spot? With the lights?”
Peter smiled. “Aunt May and Uncle Ben used to drive me out there every Christmas. They didn’t celebrate either, but May told me about how they got lost once on their way home from an office party and when Ben pulled over to find a map, she got out and saw the view and they just sat for a while before coming home. I never forgot it.”
Harley swept the hair from his forehead and kissed him softly. “That’s sweet.”
“Mhm,” he nodded. “Gives me something to look forward to every year. Did you like it?”
“Yeah,” Harley answered. “I think I finally have a favorite thing about Christmas.”
To Harley, Christmas had only ever been a series of disappointments.
To Harley, Christmas had only ever been a series of disappointments.
It was hard for him to remember any Christmases before his Dad left. His whole childhood was split into two categories: a section of Before his Dad left, and then all of the After. He had vague memories of a tree in their living room, a real tree, one that smelled like pine and left needles on the floor that Harley had to be cautious of. Occasionally there were flashes of Abbie crawling on the floor in a bright pink onesie, delighted by all of the commotion Harley had caused by opening his presents.
Those were some of the good ones.
When Harley was 7, and Abbie was 4, they had to take the Greyhound by themselves. Their Dad had left the beginning of the year. They hadn’t seen him since that day in February when he had up and left. Harley hadn’t gotten his hopes up, but when their Dad had arranged tickets for them to ride the bus up to his new place in Ohio, Harley let himself wonder what it would be like to have the back and forth. To have elusive summers at their Dad’s, instead of staying where they were.
That was the last time Harley fooled himself into believing that their Dad cared.
Their Mom hadn’t wanted them to go, especially alone, but she couldn’t miss a shift at the diner, and so it went. Harley and Abbie were both loaded up with backpacks of their own, filled with snacks and drinks, and a couple of dollars tucked into the zipper pocket at the front of Harley’s bag. Harley had held Abbie’s hand in a vice grip nearly the entire time, not wanting to lose her for an instant, even if they were sitting next to each other on the bus.
The 6-hour ride on the bus was uneventful. Abbie was mostly entertained by her LeapFrog, until it died a few hours in. After that, she had fallen asleep with her thumb in her mouth, and her head resting on Harley’s shoulder. The bus eventually rolled to a stop once they got to their station. Abbie was tired and groggy, so Harley had carried her the best he could manage with his tiny arms. He stepped into the station and they waited.
Two hours in, Harley got a sinking feeling.
It was the night of Christmas Eve, and it was only getting later, and closer to Christmas morning. Their Dad was supposed to have met them there and picked them up at the station. By the time three hours had passed, and Abbie had blinked herself into a more alert state, Harley knew that their Dad wasn’t coming.
“Come with me. Hold my hand.” Harley had instructed, tugging Abbie close. Abbie had nodded dutifully, and held out her hand for Harley to take in a bone-crushing grip. She followed him as he went up to a lady at the ticket counter. He pulled out a crumpled dollar bill from his bag and held it out to her.
When he asked if she had a phone he could use, she pointed him in the direction of the payphone outside. She gave him change for his dollar and told him to come back inside and ask for help if he needed it. Harley had said, “Yes ma’am, thank you, ma’am,” which made her smile.
The payphone was a little ways away from the station and in the parking lot. It was cold; cold enough that Harley shivered in his coat. Abbie was bundled in a giant puffer jacket that threatened to consume her whole. Harley still frowned, and ushered her in close, shielding her from the wind, while he dialed the number he had memorized ever since he went into Kindergarten. His teeth chattered as he waited for it to connect.
Their Mom picked up after a few rings. There hadn’t been a point up until that moment that Harley had wanted to cry. But, when he told his Mom over the phone that their Dad hadn’t showed, he had to bite his lip to keep it from wobbling. His Mom was nearly hysterical almost immediately, and Harley and Abbie were going to have to wait for her to drive up to get them, which meant six more hours, at least, at the station. It would be well into Christmas morning by the time their Mom would get there.
That set the tone, really.
Once Harley had put the payphone back onto its hinge, he had trudged back into the station, with Abbie in tow, mostly tucked under his arm. The lady at the front desk immediately took pity, and made sure to supply them with water and snacks. She even at one point in the night/morning procured a deck of cards, and taught Harley how to play War, while Abbie watched on with glee. After they had gotten their fill of that game, the lady at the desk taught them how to play Blackjack and Poker, the latter Abbie took to like a sponge, even if she didn’t grasp everything completely. It was fun, but-
It still didn’t alleviate the burn of knowing that their father had abandoned them, again.
As the night waned on into morning, Abbie and Harley both fell asleep, by a bench in the corner, half on top of each other, using their backpacks as makeshift pillows. Harley had woken up a bit later and saw his Mom, frenzied and talking to the lady at the desk in hushed voices.
“Mama?” Harley had called out, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. The action caused Abbie to stir next to him. Almost as soon as she processed that their Mom was there she started to cry. Their Mom rushed over to her, and scooped her up into her arms, while Harley held onto her one outstretched hand.
They said goodbye to the front desk lady, and their Mom buckled them into her car, which was idled out front. It was old, and beat up, and in no condition to be doing a long drive, but she had made it there nonetheless. Their Mom was too tired to do the drive back, so they rented a nearby motel room to get some sleep. They all slept together in the same bed until it was close to evening on Christmas Day.
The drive home was mostly silent. Harley didn’t have any idea why their Dad hadn’t shown up for them, but he knew that he shouldn’t ask. Every once in a while on the drive their Mom would start crying. When she did, Harley would look out the window. He couldn’t stand seeing his Mom cry.
When they got home it was late, and they were all exhausted. Regardless, their Mom had insisted that they open presents under the tree. Abbie and Harley both opened their couple of presents, and did their best not to act glum. It wasn’t even Christmas anymore.
Harley spent most of the night thinking about Ohio, and what was so great there that their Dad didn’t want them anymore.
*
The following Christmas, it was like walking on eggshells. They never discussed the events of the previous year, but they still hung in the air. Their Dad leaving was fresh, even if it had been over a year since he had walked out the front door and never came back. But even when he had walked out the door that day in February and never looked back, Harley never felt abandoned until him and Abbie were sitting alone at that bus station.
*
The Christmas after that, Tony Stark of all people showed up. It gave Harley hope, for once. Maybe this Christmas wouldn’t be so bad. Then, Harley watched a girl burn alive, her skin turning into a molten orangey-glow that made him sick to his core. Tony was different from what Harley had seen on TV, and he looked tired, like his Mom after a long shift.
Harley had just started to give Christmas a chance - then Tony left, too. Just like everyone else.
*
All of the Christmases after that held nothing of note. By the time Abbie and Harley were teenagers, Christmas was barely a holiday in the Keener house. It wasn’t a thing, but rather an unspoken agreement. Christmas couldn’t become a disappointment if there were no expectations to begin with.
Everything, of course, changed when Harley met Peter.
*
Falling for Peter had kind of been like staring at the sun. When Harley focused on him for too long his retinas singed, but he couldn’t look away. Peter was kind, and smart, and funny, and so much all the time that Harley had to pinch himself whenever Peter trained all of his brightness onto him. He was beautiful. He was a nuclear fusion of hydrogen; a swirl of helium that took up so much more than every star Harley could ever make out in the sky. As far as Harley was concerned, Peter was the milky way, and he was sitting on the grass tracing constellations.
*
They had been dating for six months by the time Christmas season rolled around. What Harley hadn’t accounted for was how much Peter loved Christmas. He was bundled up in sweaters almost as soon as the calendar passed into December. His apartment had a tree, and was filled to the brim with decorations, and lights. He wanted to watch a slew of Christmas movies, and never failed to hum along with whatever Christmas song was playing in a store they were at, all while still always holding Harley’s hand.
Harley did his best to tune it out. He wasn’t a grinch, but, he was never going to have anywhere near the same level of enthusiasm that Peter did about the holiday. He wanted Peter to enjoy himself, and it was nice, seeing him so happy and excited. Harley couldn’t risk him losing the little gleam in his eyes that he had grown accustomed to.
But then, Christmas Day had came, along with the same loneliness that caught up with him like clockwork every year. He was invited over to May’s by Peter. He had initially planned on going, for Peter’s sake, but backed out last minute, much to Peter’s disappointment. He just didn’t think that he could bear it.
Somehow though, Harley had lucked out and managed to find the most perfect boyfriend in all of existence. When Peter wrapped up with Aunt May he came back to Harley’s apartment. It was late, late enough that Harley was already in bed and he was pretty sure it had passed into Boxing Day. Peter had shucked off his jacket and shoes noisily, then climbed right into bed with him, lining himself up along Harley’s back. Harley squawked at his frozen fingers and toes.
“Missed you,” Peter said into his neck, which made Harley snort. They had just seen each other that morning.
Harley kissed him, then pulled back, grimacing. “You taste like eggnog.”
Peter frowned, and Harley could see it even in the dark. Then he asked tentatively, his voice small, “Why don’t you like Christmas, Harls?”
Harley didn’t say anything at first, and let out a breath. He ran his fingers up Peter’s torso and counted each one of his ribs. “I don’t…” Harley trailed off, not sure of what to say, or where to even begin. “It’s okay.”
“I wanted you to have a good Christmas,” Peter said, and he sounded so morose, like it personally saddened him that Harley hadn’t had fun.
“Christmases have never been good,” Harley eventually settled on, keeping his tone neutral. “They just - haven’t.”
Peter tucked his face into Harley’s chest, then blinked up at him with those brown eyes of his, the ones that he knew were Harley’s weakness. “What happened?” He whispered, like if he asked too loud Harley might shut down and not tell him. He knew him well, well enough to wait him out.
It was a few minutes later, when Peter’s breath had evened out, that Harley found himself saying, “When Abbie and I were little, our Dad left us at a bus station on Christmas.”
It was quiet, only for a moment, long enough for Harley to wonder if Peter had heard him at all. But then, Peter said, his voice cracking, “Oh, Harley, that’s awful.”
Harley laughed, despite himself. He couldn’t help it. Peter sounded so heartbroken, he had to let it roll off. If he internalized it, and really let Peter in deep he didn’t know if he could ever tug him back out. “It happens,” he said, with a breeziness he didn’t really feel, and did an awkward half-shrug from under Peter’s weight. “But I like that you like Christmas,” He said, wanting to get to the important part, because that’s what mattered. It was okay that Harley would get down on Christmas, because Peter loved it enough for the both of them.
Or really, that’s the conclusion that Harley had come to.
So, cue his bafflement when another year passed with him and Peter still together. They moved in together over the summer, and it was easy. It was easy in a way that nothing else in Harley’s life ever had been. It was almost the middle of December when Harley realized that Peter hadn’t so much said a word about Christmas, which was-
Concerning.
Harley thought about it for nearly the entire time it took him to get home from work. When he did, Peter was still out. He looked over their apartment with a new eye and made note that not a single decoration had been put up. He hadn’t even seen Peter pull out a single one of his Christmas sweaters. A bad taste grew in Harley’s mouth as his brain provided him with a theory.
You ruined Christmas for him, the voice in the back of his head supplied.
And yeah, Peter hadn’t been as smiley lately, or as cheerful as Harley remembered him being the previous year. He had also been spending a lot of late nights out, ones that Harley never questioned, but now sat at the forefront of his mind.
He had confided in him about his worst Christmas. He had even told him about the lady who had played cards with them and gave them food while their Mom was on her way. He had told him all about it because he had asked, but now, it felt like a mistake.
He waited up for Peter to get home. He fucked around on Instagram, watching the door. Eventually, Peter came through it. He was swathed in layers from head to toe, his frame swallowed by a big puffy jacket, boots, a hat, and a scarf. His cheeks were bright red, and he gave Harley a delighted grin once he saw him. “Hey, babe,” he said cheerily, before swooping down for a kiss.
He went over to hang his jacket up when Harley prodded, “Where were you tonight?”
“Just hanging out with MJ,” Peter said casually, not looking at him.
That would have been fine, except, Harley had seen MJ’s most recent story posted about an hour ago, and she had most definitely not been hanging out with Peter.
Harley let it sit in the air for a few moments, enough to debate if he was going to call him on it. Though, he could never leave well enough alone. He sucked in a breath. “Where were you, really?”
He watched Peter freeze, and then look at him with wide eyes. “What do you mean?”
“I know you weren’t with MJ,” He said, and hated how the words sounded as they spilled out of his mouth.
“Harley, I-”
“I don’t care,” he said, feeling exasperated. “Just...where were you?”
Peter slumped, shifting his eyes guiltily, and sunk his shoulders until he deflated. “I was wrapping presents,” he muttered, low enough that Harley could just barely make it out.
“What?” He said, going numb.
“I was wrapping presents, with May,” Peter said a little louder, but looked just as guilty.
Harley was heartbroken.
“Jesus,” Harley breathed, and tugged his hands through his hair, turning away so he wasn’t facing him.
“Harley-”
Harley cut him off, his voice raised, “You never put up a tree!”
“What?” Peter said, his brows knitting together in confusion.
“You haven’t said anything about Christmas this year, and now you feel like you have to sneak away to wrap presents with Aunt May?”
Peter’s eyes widened, and he started wringing his hands together. “I don’t- I just-” he bit his lip. “I thought that maybe you couldn’t have a bad Christmas if we didn’t have Christmas.”
Harley closed his eyes. “That’s not what I want at all.” When he finally opened his eyes Peter was looking at him so dejectedly that Harley’s heart broke all over again. Harley motioned for Peter to come over to where he was on the couch. “C’mere, baby.”
Peter only hesitated for a moment before he melted against Harley, and let Harley manhandle him into his lap. “You were so sad last year,” Peter said quietly against his neck. “I didn’t want to make you sad.”
Harley sighed. “I like that you like Christmas, okay? I do.”
Peter seemed dubious. “You really mean that?”
Harley nodded. “I like seeing you all excited, and happy. I hate that I ruined that.”
“You didn’t ruin anything!” Peter insisted, even though Harley didn’t believe him.
*
They talked it through, but Harley still felt like he had ruined Christmas. It lingered above them, unresolved. Peter had yet to fully relax and indulge, at least not to the full extent that he had the previous year, when he was completely unguarded. He would broach the topic of Christmas ever since their talk, but would always glance shiftily at Harley afterwards, like he was waiting for him to be put-off. Harley couldn’t stand it, but he also couldn’t figure out how to fix it either.
He resigned himself to calling Abbie. If there was one person on planet Earth who understood his fucked up feelings on Christmas - it was her.
And of course, like the little genius she was, her solution had been simple:
“Why don’t you and Peter make a good memory together on Christmas?”
Which, huh. Harley had never given that a thought, but suddenly it made sense. All Peter had ever wanted was for Harley to have a good Christmas, but he had been too caught up in his own misery and angst to give that to him.
“Christmas isn’t all bad,” Abbie said, seeing right through Harley, like always. “I know it kind of sucked growing up, but I went to Jen’s house for Christmas last year and it was so nice. Why don’t you and Peter just do something together?”
“Fuck,” Harley said intelligently, and leaned back in his chair. He then gave Abbie his most charming smile over their video call. “Do you think you could make it up to New York this year?”
“To save your sorry ass, you bet,” She said, rolling her eyes, but gave Harley a smile at the end anyway.
Harley wrapped up the phone call pretty quickly after that. He had a plan that he had to see through.
*
Getting everything lined up and everyone on board was a lot easier than Harley had initially anticipated. He had called May first, who immediately  insisted that if there was a holiday party of any kind that it should be held at the Tower, she also was sworn to secrecy from Peter. Next, Harley called Pepper. She was warm to the idea of having a slap-dash Avengers holiday party hosted at the Tower, and went into full cutthroat planning mode almost instantly, it was enough to make Harley sweat.
Things sort of just fell into place after that. Roping their makeshift crew and everyone adjacent into accepting invitations went smoothly, and nobody let it slip to Peter what was going on.
*
By the time Christmas Eve arrived, Harley was nervous.
Getting Peter dressed and into an Uber was a little more precarious. He had made a few inquiring confused faces when Harley said he wanted to go somewhere, but otherwise didn’t question him. During the ride Harley did his best to distract him so he wouldn’t pay attention to where they were headed. Harley had a few texts on his phone letting him know that the party was in full-swing. Abbie had even sent him a few excited selfies she had taken from inside the Tower.
When the car slowed to a stop only a few blocks from the Tower entrance Peter abruptly quieted his idle chatter and furrowed his brows, looking at Harley.
“Harley? What are we doing here?” Peter glanced back and forth between the car window and Harley, like he was trying to slot things together but they weren’t clicking just right, it was hopelessly endearing.
“C’mon,” Harley said, his palms sweaty. “We don’t want to be late.”
He dragged a dazed and confused Peter down the street, through the lobby, and eventually into the elevators in the Tower.
“What’s going on!” Peter demanded as soon as the elevator door closed, and Harley had to hold back a smile at Peter crowding into his space and being all faux-threatening. “If you don’t tell me what we’re doing here I swear I’m gonna-”
He was cut off by the doors parting on the top floor, and revealing a festive scene. Harley had to admit that Pepper had outdone herself. There were decorations and twinkle lights spread all around the room, casting everything in a warm glow. Various Avengers were scattered around, mingling, and laughing. And a giant, ostentatious Christmas tree sat in the corner, nearly reaching the ceiling, with mounds of presents piled underneath.
“You-” Peter started, his eyes wide, before he whirled around to look at him. “Oh my god!”
Harley ducked his head, smiling sheepishly. His hands itched to stuff them inside of his pocket. “Surprise,” He mumbled.
Peter’s eyes went shiny. “You did this for me?”
Harley shrugged, he was sure the tips of his ears were probably pink. Yeah, he wanted to say, of course I did this for you, everything I ever do is for you. “You love Christmas,” is what he settled on instead. “Abbie said we just needed some good memories...so…”
Peter softened, and Harley only had half a second to brace himself before Peter launched at him, and he got an armful of messy brown curls. “I love you,” Peter told him, his voice full of wonder before he tugged him in for a messy kiss. “I can’t believe you kept this from me!” Peter breathed out before giving Harley a giggle of pure delight.
“I had some help,” Harley said, not wanting to take all of the credit. But Peter just gave him one of his small secret smiles, like he could see right through every word that came out of his mouth. It was intoxicating.
“Gross!” A voice that Harley would recognize anywhere piped up from only a few feet away. “I thought we banned mistletoe for a reason!”
“Abbs!” Harley grinned, and broke away from Peter to give his little sister a hug, almost swooping her feet off the ground in the process. He pulled away enough to grab onto her shoulders. “You givin’ Stark a hard time?”
“I’m on my worst behavior,” She declared with glee. “Tony won’t let me around Morgan, but I think it’s because he’s scared of the power we both possess.”
“Atta’girl,” Harley laughed, and watched her head over to where Pepper was.
Peter tsked. “You Keeners, nothing but trouble.”
Harley’s grin widened as he brought a hand to Peter’s hip. “Yeah, but I seem to remember you likin’ some trouble.”
Peter’s eyes glinted dangerously, like he was about to spout off at the mouth, but then his eyes trained on someone over Harley’s shoulder.
“May!” He yelled excitedly, and suddenly dragged Harley over to where she was.
They bantered with May for a while until Wanda and Vision entered with their new set of twins and stole the show. Abbie immediately cooed over them, which Harley observed fondly. The Tower was packed with Avengers, and friends alike. Natasha and May tucked themselves into a corner, both with glasses of wine, and seemed to be getting on like a house on fire.
Peter appeared to take in the scene with a mixture of admiration, and awe. He shot Harley these looks that said, “Can you believe this?” And a little part of Harley couldn’t. He was actually having fun. For the first time in his life he got it, he understood why Peter saw Christmas as something special. This time, Harley wasn’t just enduring Christmas.
A little later, once everyone was properly tipsy, Morgan had been ushered into bed, and Vision had fastened the sleeping babies into their carrier - the Poker game started.
It had been Tony’s idea, and Harley had to hold back his snicker. Tony was cocky, already trash-talking everyone at the table. Harley initially wasn’t going to play, but Peter had goaded him into it. He said, “Please, Harley?” in just the right way to have Harley sighing and saying, “Deal me in.”
“They don’t even know you’re going to win,” Peter whispered to him, and Harley decided not to tell him how wrong he was, he didn’t want to spoil the show he no doubt was going to get. It was cute. Harley was a damn good Poker player, and Peter knew it, too, but, he had also never had the joy of seeing Abbie Keener at full velocity.
Harley met eyes with Abbie from across the table, and he could tell just by their sparkle that they were all in for it.
It was safe to say that Abbie wiped the floor with Tony.
She kicked his ass so hard that Tony had crowed in complete outrage, demanding a rematch. Abbie’s grin was downright devious when she beat them all again, and scooped up her chips (which were m&ms), collecting her loot. At this point, the whole table was shaking with laughter. Peter had buried his face into Harley’s shoulder halfway through the second game, so Harley could feel it vibrate through his collarbone every time he laughed. Harley had his arm flung back along the back of Peter’s chair, and he couldn’t help his manic, joyful grin whenever Tony shouted.
“Where did you learn to play like that!” Tony interrogated, cutting through the teetering of the table.
Abbie shot Harley a secret glance. “A lady at a bus station taught me, and Harleen over there, of course.”
Harley could feel Peter going stock still next to him. But it was okay. It was good to joke about it, in a way. He was too busy laughing over the whole display to get down. “When are you gonna learn, old man, you never play Poker against the Keeners.” Harley teased. Peter’s choked snort from next to him was enough to coat him like a victory.
Harley felt good. He felt warm, and satisfied as he peered around at everyone at the table. He wondered if this is what Christmas felt like for everyone else - a celebration, and excuse for a showcase of love. He could see the appeal.
Then later, much later, when most of the activities for that night had been cleared away and it had officially crossed into actual Christmas, Harley sat on the couch in the center of the penthouse. Peter was curled up next to him, a pile of sleepy goo in his lap. Harley idly carded his fingers through Peter’s hair while he periodically purred in content.
Harley whispered, quiet enough that only Peter could hear, “Merry Christmas, baby.”
Peter hummed. “Merry Christmas, Harls,” he mumbled back.
As Harley looked at the Christmas tree in the corner, with Peter’s warm breath on his leg, he couldn’t help but think that maybe Christmas wasn’t so much of a perpetual disappointment after all.
Prompt 6 and 31 with Peter and Harley being brothers and dork 💜 and I wanted to know for how you have been writing? 💕
My boysssss!!! Anyways I have been writing for about 5 years?? It’s always been a passion of mine and I’m just now getting pretty good at it! So yeah!
Also, I wanted to explain a nickname that Harley uses for Peter! He calls him Peanut Butter because of his initials! P. B. P. I just thought it would be cute. Aaanyways enjoy!
🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁🦌🎁
If it was up to Pepper, they would be having date night on Christmas Eve. Just her and Tony, doing adult things. Though, she can’t ignore her momma bear instincts. She doesn’t want the kids alone on Christmas. Or ever, for that matter.
“HARLEY DID YOU PUT HAIR DYE IN MY SHAMPOO!”
That was her cue.
Pepper sets down her wine glass and starts towards the stairs. She drops the blanket off of her shoulders and goes after her boys. With each step she can more clearly hear their fighting.
“Pink looks good on you Peanut Butter.”
“Harley you absolute ass!”
“Oh it’s not that bad.”
“You’re the reason Santa even has a naughty list!”
“Really is that the best-”
As soon as Pepper opens the door, both boys freeze. Harley smirks triumphantly, leaning against the boys’ shared bunk bed. His ugly sweater reads “Santa’s favorite Ho”. Pepper turns to Peter and bites her lip. Her eyes widen and she tries (and fails) to hold back a chuckle. Peter is only wearing Morgan’s bright yellow banana towel. His pink curls clings to his face as he scowls at Harley.
Peter perks up a little bit and points to Harley. “Mom he dyed my hair pink! He is so, so lucky I’m going to pride in a few weeks otherwise I totally would have-”
Harley scoffs and pushes off of the bed. “Petey-Pie you wouldn’t’ve hurt a fly. Also, last week you filled my pillow with whipped cream.”
“The fly didn’t dye my hair pink! And the week before that you-”
Pepper holds up her hand and raises an eyebrow. The boys continue to go back and forth. Every few seconds, Pepper drops a finger. Peter catches on first and instantly stops.
“What? You ready to finally admit defeat PB?”
Peter slaps Harley’s arm and points to Pepper. Harley moves to hit him back but freezes. Once Harley realizes she’s on her last finger, he instead drops his hand and sighs. “Sorry Mom.”
Pepper smirks. “Okay, now that that’s settled, Harley go and check on dinner for me. Maybe start making the gravy. Peter go and help your dad set up the Christmas tree. He’s too short to get the star on the top without a ladder and you can walk on walls.”
Both boys sigh but mumble out agreements. Before Pepper leaves she peaks back through the door. “Oh and Petey... put on some clothes. It’s cold outside.”
Peter’s face instantly turns red as he sputters. Harley sprints out of the room in a fit of giggles, narrowly avoiding the pillow thrown at his head.
Pepper chuckles and shuts the door. Her boys truly are... something.
When May had passed away, they took Peter instantly. She can clearly remember the night when Peter showed up on their doorstep. It was storming outside, rain had been pounding against the window so hard she almost missed the knock at the door. Tony had been upstairs with Morgan, so she naturally answered it. What she hadn’t been expecting was the red, tear stained, soaking wet face of Peter Parker. Who had been clutching a familiar green sweater and a pair of circular glasses like his life depended on it.
To say the least, it had been a very, very long night.
Harley’s situation hadn’t been much better. Her and Tony had been watching Deadpool late at night when he got the call. Pepper couldn’t quite hear what was being said, but she could tell by the worry creases forming on Tony’s face that something was wrong. Suddenly, Tony had shoved the phone towards her while he pinched his nose to fight back tears. When she answered, to say she was surprised would be an understatement.
Harley had been in hysterics. She could barely tell what he was saying over his sobs. Until suddenly, his words had become crystal clear.
The Keeners were dead. Harley had been out with friends while his parents and little sister were grabbing ice cream. His family never made it home. In the same night Tony had gotten on a jet, flown to Tennessee at breakneck speeds, and only two hours after the call Harley was in her arms crying his heart out.
They’d both been through so damn much. Through things that teenage boys should never have to go through. Horrible, terrible things that people only hear about on the news and then never think of again. Every day she marvels at how much strength they both have.
“HARLEY KEENER I KNOW YOU DID NOT JUST STEAL MY COOKIE! GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE-”
Pepper smiles. She couldn’t be happier that they’re here. The tragedies were awful and she wishes every day that they would have never happened. But now, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She loves her two boys with her entire being.
Pepper starts down the stairs, lazily sighing at the thought of getting back into her book and taking a sip of wine. She’s about half way down the stairs before she freezes.
Two boys.
Two of three kids.
Shit... where’s Morgan?
Pepper jogs back up the stairs and opens the door to her daughter’s room. She scans it quickly and then frantically moves on. She searches every room upstairs twice. Pepper gets ready to call for Tony when it hits her.
Literally.
“Ow! Shit..”
Pepper rubs her head where the Ironman action figure hit her. She gives a pained smile down to her little girl and shakes her head. “Sweetheart, if you throw things, please make sure they’re soft? Okay?”
Morgan’s face screws up in confusion. “But Momma, Ironman was wearing a tutu! Tutu’s are soft!”
Pepper glances down at the toy and realizes. Yes. Ironman is wearing a tutu. A bright pink tutu with little yellow and red sequins on it. Pepper picks up the toy and hands it back to Morgan. The little girl takes the toy and then wraps her arms around her mother’s neck.
Pepper sighs and lifts her daughter into her arms. “You’re lucky that you, little gremlin, happen to be acting more mature than your brothers right now.”
Morgan giggles and taps the action figure on Pepper’s shoulder. “Momma I always act more mature-er than them. They’re teenagers.”
Pepper laughs and starts down the stairs. “You aren’t wrong, gremlin. I think-”
“Oh god.. OH GOD! MOM HELP!”
Suddenly, everything else falls away. Pepper’s instincts take over and she’s racing down the stairs. She grips Morgan a little tighter and as soon as she hits the bottom of the stairs she sprints towards the living room. She’s .2 seconds away from calling her suit, then she pauses.
She had been expecting a lot of things. Burglars, Aliens, Ultron reincarnated. Hell, evil snowmen wouldn’t have been too surprising.
What she wasn’t expecting was her husband to be tangled up in tinsel while her son (who is stuck to the ceiling) is keeping the tree from falling on top of her tinsel-ified husband. Peter looks up (or is it down?) from his perch and sheepishly smiles.
“So uh... we had a slight problem.”
Pepper let’s out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding. She puts Morgan on the ground and moves towards her husband. Tony smiles up at her mischievously.
“Hey hot stuff. All I need is a bow and-”
“Shush and let me get you out of there.”
After a few minutes of light bickering and un-tinseling, Tony is free. She helps put the tree back in place and turns back to Morgan.
“Sweetheart, it seems like you’re also more mature-er than daddy too.”
Tony’s face morphs into fake disgust. “Are you feeding our daughter lies? Pepper Potts-Stark, I thought you were better than that.”
Pepper just waves him off and starts towards the kitchen. “Whatever honey! Just try not to...”
Once again, Pepper freezes.
Harley is standing over the gravy. With green food dye. He spins to face her and his eyes widen. He glances back and forth from her to green gravy.
Once again, Pepper takes a deep breath. “Harley... Keener. Please. Please tell me you did not dye the gravy green.”
Harley purses his lips. “Well, I was raised not to lie-”
“BULLCRAP”, Peter chirps from the living room.
“- but yes. The gravy is now green.”
Pepper blinks. It’s just one thing after another with her family. “Okay, well... everyone come eat. Food is ready.”
Within two minutes the entire family is seated at the table with their plates piled high with food. Pepper sets the gravy on the table with a sigh.
Peter snickers. “Harley I knew you liked Green Eggs and Ham but this is a bit overboard.”
Harley rolls his eyes. “Coming from Pinkie Pie-”
“Harley I swear-”
Pepper sighs. “Boys. Do I have to start counting?”
Both freeze. They look at each other and then at the ground. “No mom.”
The table falls silent as everyone digs in. The peace doesn’t last long though. Does it ever?
“Oh.. oh god. Bleh! That’s nasty.. Pep what did you put in this?”
Pepper holds up her hands in surrender. “I went by the recipe. Harley on the other hand...”
Harley gasps in feign innocence. “Mom! How dare you accuse me of-”
Pepper raises an eyebrow. Harley pauses for a moment, then sighs. “Okay fine I may or may not have accidentally dropped the cinnamon and it may or may not have gotten on the food.”
Peter tips back his chair and groans. “Harley are you trying to kill me?”
“Not yet.”
“Well don’t feel bad,” Tony sighs, “you didn’t completely ruin Christmas dinner. There’s still this... jello stuff.”
“Yeah!” Morgan squeals. “It’s got marshmallows and fruit and everything in it!”
Pepper takes in the laughing faces of each family member and smiles. Their family is far from perfect. Very, very far.
But, even though they might be the strangest family on the planet, she wouldn’t change a single thing.
So, I was writing, and this happened #Twooo!
Peter sat by the lift, the three year old recently done with their nappy-change, so now sat in a pastel-blue top with white stars and his currently-creaseless, white nappy.
“Petey-Pie...” Tony says, attempting to get his fussy toddler away from the penthouse entrance: Harley had already dropped off and should now be fast asleep in the twins’ crib.
Peter lets out a wordless, sulky yell, scooting away from Tony.
“Pops!” Peter snaps, glaring at Tony.
“He won’t be back yet, sweetheart,” Tony says, trying to help Peter understand.
“Will!” Peter snaps, “Pops Will!”
Tony is tired, he’s still got forms to sign and-
“PATTA!”
Harley had escaped their crib again.
Tony lets out a soft groan, as Peter points at the lift door.
“Pops!”
Harley looks at the door, then at Peter and, after a moment, yells a very loud “NO!”
“Yeah!” Peter snaps, Tony quickly moving to grab the two, though only Harley is willing, Peter scooching away again.
Tony gives up; at this rate, if he tried forcing Peter to go to sleep, Peter will not stop yelling and probably set off Harley.
So, he’ll let Harley play with his toys on the couch, by Tony, then when Peter drops off he can take them both back to their crib...
Tony tries to ignore the worry in his gut as Peter, now surrounded by five of his most loyal soft toys, the Captain Bear tightly held in his little arms, the toy’s twin, an Iron Bear, in Harley’s arms.
Harley drops off again, leaning against Tony, though Peter continues to sit at the doorway, not even taking into account anything Tony says, ignoring the sippy-cup at his side.
Tony looks at the clock on his StarkPad.
It’s past midnight; Christmas Eve had just become Christmas Day.
“Pete-” Tony starts, though then Peter sits up straighter, Tony just about hearing the lift as it passed the floor two storeys down.
The lift opens, revealing a muddy, smoke-covered Captain America.
Peter lets out a loud, happy yell, waking Harley, as Steve finally spots the quieter of his two sproglets at his feet, holding their arms out towards him.
“Heyyy, what are you doing up?” Steve asks, carefully propping his shield against the wall, looking around for something to wipe his hands clean on, though Peter lets out a pouty “Poppa!”
Steve gives up, moving to scoop Peter up, only for another, equally small child to tackle him, wrapping their arms around his neck.
“Woah! Harley?”
“Pops!” Harley greets.
Peter lets out a low whine, Steve scooping up Peter with his free hand.
Peter leans against his chest, as Tony stands up, smiling softly.
“Tony, the Sun’s already set, what are-” Steve starts, though Tony can only bring himself to greet his husband with a warm kiss.
“Peter refused  to go to bed until you returned,” Tony whispers, as Peter finally fell asleep, snuggled up pn Steve’s shoulder as Harley is quick to follow.
Really?” Steve asks, voice equally soft, though it cracks slightly as Tony takes Harley, being careful of the ring of toys and the Paddington-Bear-themed sippy cup.
“He wouldn’t even move from where he was sitting. Harley broke out of their cot again and then dropped off by me on the sofa, until Peter woke him, of course.”
Steve’s face goes from surprise, to worry, to that soft, sappy warmth Tony couldn’t help but reflect.
“Well then, looks like I should start having a hometime, myself.”
Tony can’t resist giving his hubby another kiss, though this time he gets a mouthful of soot, making him have tourn away, disgust twisting his features.
“Shower, now,” he says, “I’ll bathe these two, again, though I have a feeling putting them back in their cot is a bad idea.”
“They can sleep in our bed tonight,” Steve agrees, “And if you need any help with Harley...”
“He takes after his Dada,” Tony smirks, “Definitely has that Stark brattiness.”
Thirty minutes later, Peter and Harley are cuddled up between their parents, though Peter had refused to relinquish his grip on Steve until Steve had just bathed with Peter instead of separately, gently holding Peter slightly above the water, cleaning him down himself as Tony got Harley dressed in a new set of jammies.
Steve doesn’t realise Tony has fallen asleep himself, until Steve’s “I love you” is answered with soft breaths.
Careful of their children, Steve leans over to kiss Tony’s forehead.
“Goodnight,” he whispers, the weariness from fighting and the soft smell of Harley and Peter’s baby-shampoo sending him off to sleep...
