major ick is when eddie does too much dirty talk when having sex in a fic. like mans would NOT say all that 😭 i end up tuning out or skipping forward bc i just can’t read that. unrealistic and just too much

something that irks me, is that when i use to be on wattpad i saw soo many fics about figure skater sunghoon, and at the time lots of my friends would recommend them to me cause they thought id like it.

i actually have a background in figure skating, so whenever i read something that was inaccurate to the sport i had to put the fic down 😭

Oh, I hate it when fic authors villainize one half of the ship. I don't mean an au where things are flipped or evil or something but stories that are close to canon with some differences. It's so icky to me. It's obvious you like one half of the pair more and wrote the fic to make them look better.

Someone being meaner, sure, but having them be that ooc, might as well make em a new character.

Even worse when they villainze a woman the fandom already shits on.

I know it makes me picky, but if something is formatted weirdly on AO3, I just can't read it. Even if the story is good. like, when there's a double space between paragraphs making the text stretch out super far, or when paragraphs are so long I have to scroll and scroll, or when multiple characters are talking in the same paragraph

I know fic is free labor, I write my own, so obviously, I would never complain to the writer or say anything in the comments

but nothing makes me close a tab faster than bad formatting

I’m not too big a fan of de aging fics (just a personal preference), but the ones I always adore are the fics where the de aged person still knows everything from before they were de-aged and act like a child genius.

With that in mind: Danny gets de-aged in Gotham. With no other way around it, he has to be put back into elementary school and VERY rapidly skips classes because he still remembers everything. In his woodworking class he builds a miniature scale fully functioning mech that could be used to fight Gotham Rogues.

Bruce very quickly notices this kids very apparent smarts. With the rate of smart young children becoming rogues, he gives Danny as many Wayne scholarly grants as he can to encourage non villainous behavior.

love potions/rapey vibes of any kind. makes me very uncomfortable

in the same vein: big age difference. i respect the authors who committed to the 60 year age difference but it's definitely not for me

shitting on characters without a good reason. yes, i love a good character bashing because i'm a terrible terrible person, but you have to give us a reason. even a small one is fine. even if they're just annoying. don't be mean just to be mean, it makes me feel bad and no one wants that

kidnapping: these can be done really well but usually they're just a chore. for 30 or so chapters they hate each other, they're nice to each other once every three chapters, they dont' get together until chapter 42. i don't like slow burns -- they're rarely done well and most of the time they're just frustrating. tomarry fics are rarely finished, i refused to be strung along for 50 chapters without catharsis. i refuse.

all of these are very personal of course!! i'm not saying any fics with these tropes are inherantly bad, I just don't like them.

harry rejecting his past and striking out on his own path -- YES!! Reject the status quo!! Be your own person!

genuine critique of the wizarding world and in depth worldbuilding (goblins, house elves, muggleborns, erasure of wizard culture, etc etc)

dumbledore is a bad person

rebirth fics. redo everything again but smarter and wiser!

harry becoming friends with the horcrux inside of him

tom is a competant teacher

analysis of tom/voldey as a person and reasoning for why they went bonkers insane

tom and harry relating to each other's abusive childhoods

competant + skilled tom/harry that have each other's backs

muggle appreciation (not just respecting muggle technology but acknowledging muggles as a threat)

as you can tell i don't just love tomarry i do dislike the original hp series to some extent. i reread it recently and find the worldbuilding flawed at best and at worst i would argue jk didn't put an ounce of thought into it. the politics are laughable -- think house elves, wizard supremacy, "all is well" epilogue. the characters are frustrating, i despise dumbledore, and voldey is such a two dimensional villain one can blow him over with a hairdryer.

still. it's the series i grew up with as a child and i hold a good amount of affection for it in my heart and i see the potential it has. fanfics become that potential realised and i love love love seeing people see the concepts rowling introduce and run with it. the solutions people come up with are always so interesting and make so much sense (i once read someone introduce the idea that magic itself is dying. Wow! That's fascinating!)

okay folks. it's nearly our favorite psychopath's and dark lord's, tom marvolo riddle's birthday. my little meow meow. and!! i wanna talk about tomarrymort!! so, tell me about the things you don't like, least favorite tropes in tomarrymort fics. or, the things that causes you immediately stop reading the fanfiction with a grimace. here are mines:

extremly powerful, out of character harry

dark, death eater harry

slytherin harry. look. he's father's son. a gryffindor through and through. the only reason that sorting hat considered to put him in slytherin was the horcrux inside harry.

handsome voldemort for no reason and mostly unknown how he regained his young body, the author doesn't dwell on it 'cause the only important thing is to give him hot looks. *sighs*

harry taking dark mark willingly or unwillingly. seriously, can we all just agree on voldemort marked him enough? is the scar on his forehead not enough? he isn't some kind of servant, he's his equal.

harry hadrian harrison peverell gryffindor slytherin black gaunt potter the heir of every house— ugh

silent, obeying, defeated harry. where's his foolish bravery? his gryffindor fire? give me my defying harry no matter what situation he's in, no matter how scared he's. (there's one popular fic that everyone adores but i just absolutely dislike... i won't say the name, if you get it you get it.)

master of death harry is such a cool concept to write, he's literally master of the only thing that tom is afraid. but i came across only a few fics that's well written. that's sad.

I ended up summarising his personality to be NEARLY the same as sylus from love and deepspace. regardless, I FINALLY DID NOT GO OVER THE WORD LIMIT !!

callisto mused, leaning against the doorframe with that insufferable, arrogant smirk of his. he eyed you going through his bedroom with an amused glint in his eyes.

clearly, he was enjoying the sight of you getting caught in the act.

you did not actually mean to snoop around callisto's bedroom. you had been waiting for him when he was busy getting dressed. since you had nothing to do, you let your eyes mindlessly wander around his massive yet empty room.

it was not as though you were trying to find something. you were just idly passing time while waiting for him. but then your eyes landed on something that sat sitting on his dresser that was oddly near his bed.

before you could think twice about what you were doing, your curiosity got the better of you. hence, you ended up investigating what that odd thing could be.

when you gazed upon the item. it was an old, weathered glass jar, though the content within it were certainly new. you took a moment to process what exactly it was that gave a tug of familiarity.

the trinkets were so familiar to you.

you would have not bat an eye on that glass jar if it were not for the contents in it.

then, callisto caught you in that moment.

which led to callisto standing in the doorway, giving the most annoying smirk known to man alongside that look of bemusement.

you felt your heart racing when you were caught. though you knew you were not guilty, you felt as if you were touching something so incredibly intimate to him.

you straightened up immediately. your hands instinctively moving to your back to hide the jar you took from his dresser.

you took another long gaze in the jar without shame to ease your curiousity. after processing it, it caught you by surprise when you realised what those were.

the trinkets and other items within it were tiny gifts you gave callisto over the course of your time together.

small tokens of affection or silly, spontaneous, or callisto decided it would be better to steal it from you.

each trinket within it brought back memories of the two of your shared moments you did not know you needed to remember.

a pebble from your garden that you gave to callisto during your early days of meeting him to boldly mock him. several jewellery you gifted (and stolen) to callisto. two overworn handkerchiefs and other tiny content you saw—

all these small, seemingly insignificant gifts you had given to him,

you never realised he had kept them.

it hit you hard. you could not even comprehend what you felt seeing the jar.

affection? adoration? nostalgia? disbelief?

there were too many thoughts running through your mind.

your fingers tightened around the jar unconsciously, as if shielding the vulnerability you felt at that moment.

callisto, the annoyingly observant man that he is, noticed your change in expressions. he gave you a knowing look as he took a slow step forward to you.

“i had no idea you were so sentimental, darling,” he commented with his usual teasing tone, yet it was laced with something more.

you opened your mouth to speak, but your words were tangled in your throat. you were caught by the strange, warm ache in your chest that you could not explain.

“i didn't know you kept these...” you croaked out, trying not to sound vulnerable, but your voice was softer than you intended. you glanced at the jar again with disbelief.

his lips curled into a tiny, gentler smile, yet he managed to maintain his arrogant smirk after. he took the jar from your hands carefully. you noticed he was cradling it almost reverently, scared it would break.

“this is where i store my greatest treasures,” callisto murmured, his voice almost tender when he glanced at the content within the jar.

his eyes shifted to you. he placed the jar where it belonged, then his fingers brushed against yours. he gave a knowing grin. “if i could put you in here, i would,” he said teasingly, but you could sense that he actually meant it.

he then leaned down to press a kiss to the top of your head. the warmth of his lips lingered longer than you expected. it was a quiet gesture, but it was profound to you, as if it were a promise.

in that moment, you realised it was not just the objects that made you sentimental, it was that callisto had truly seen you. all these tiny things could have been easily overlooked, but he cherished it.

callisto cherished you.

"thank you," you whispered. the words carried heavy meaning. you gave him a smile, a sincere one without artifice. a smile that caught callisto off guard.

callisto then smiled, a smile that matched yours— genuine and sincere, far more than either of you had anticipated.
