So, apparently, the fiber arts world now has their Fyber Festival.

An event called Wool and Folk happened last week on Thursday and Friday. They sold three thousand tickets, at fifty five dollars each, for a venue that only had capacity for five hundred people.

The stories that are coming out are wild. Like full on wtf.

Sometimes, when I'm bored, the fiber arts world really delivers with the drama.

very curious about audio drama and its relation to artistic people because every single one of my podcast mutuals (myself included) either draws writes or does some sort of fiber art. sometimes more than one. what is the correlation there.

The Situation:

As some of you may know, I was born with multiple congenital heart defects that render me disabled. I've have five open heart surgeries, and countless other procedures - in fact, next Saturday is the one year anniversary of my most recent open heart surgery, and this month is american heart month!

Anyways, in honor of these facts, (and in honor of the fact my hours keep getting cut since it's 'too much work' to work around my disability imposed schedule, I can only work up to six hour shifts), I am going to be selling these custom hand sewn weighted frogs! There are eight options for fabric, and all frogs are entirely hand sewn by yours truly.

Frog Stats:

each frog is approximately 7 inches by 9 inches

the frogs will weigh about one pound each, but I can add more weight for a dollar per pound up to 5 pounds total

one frog is $18 plus shipping - I ship from the west coast of the united states

"chenille yarn isn't real yarn because-" i don't care. your macrame tapestries look like shit, brenda. just because you bought expensive cotton yarn doesn't mean your project will turn out nice. it won't! because it's beige macrame tapestry that you're hanging in your 5 year old son braxtyn's room instead of giving him a like, dinosaur plush or something. which CAN be made quite well with chenille yarn. so.

i knit and crochet, and ive been seeing a lot of people sayong crochet looks like shit and knit looks better, but what they actually mean is that the knit stitch looks better than a single or double crochet. which is fair, but have u considered how many funky crochet stitches there are??? combining stitches can get you some of the coolest patterns ever come on now with ur needle using ass

Well, the Lady Dye Yarns drama has exploded in ways no one saw coming.

Lady Dye Yarns is a hand dye yarn business in Boston.  Diane, the owner, is famously disorganized.  There have been issues with yarn and club kits/boxes shipping late the entire ten years the company has been in business.

It got especially bad this year.  She only shipped out 80% of the winter boxes from last year and made an IG live that pretty much said that was good enough.  The remaining 20% of people who had bought the boxes were pissed.  They wanted either their yarn or their money back.

She also stated not to email her because she didn’t really answer emails.  As a business.  And then said every time she got an email it pushed the important emails down on the list and made them harder to find.  There were lots of excuses.

Then, when people started doing chargebacks on their credit cards, because she was refusing to process refunds, she would just let the chargeback process go through quietly.  Meaning it took ninety days to go through because she refuses to respond to banks.  At all.

And this year she also hasn’t shipped out nearly all of her yarn boxes and kits, or shipped a few of them very late.  People are reporting they haven’t received the first three sock kits for this year (it’s a four sock kit a year membership), she was supposed to ship a bunch of kits in August and never did.

Then she never shipped a $10,000 shipment to a wholesaler, who is now having to get the money back via a dispute with the bank because she’s refusing to respond or do anything about it.

Total shit show.  

While all this is going on she is bragging about how she’s going to be on the Today Show and QVC and The View next year.  No one thinks her business will be around next year, she currently owes $14,000+ in refunds, but she is really enjoying hyping up how much bigger her business is growing.

She’s also hosting a lot of activist meetings and raising money for charities at the same time.  Which normally no one would care about, except she isn’t telling anyone how much money she’s raised for charities, and almost never says what charities the money has been raised for either.  So she’s just saying she’s raising money for a charity genre, such as women’s reproductive rights, but not which exact charity or how much is donated.  But she is saying a percentage of sales is going to charity.

This is suspicious and leaves people wondering if she’s pocketing the cash, or using it to prop up her failing business.

Then it came out yesterday that it’s even worse.  

She’s distributing patterns without paying or informing the designers.  Five patterns have been confirmed distributed without payment or permission so far.  Which means Diane is charging extra for the kits she’s sending out to include the pattern, and just pocketing the cash that should have been going to the pattern designers.

It’s an awful situation.

I think the one thing that is hilarious in it is that she, for the last year, no matter the kit theme, has only been sending out Bridgerton themed yarns.  Apparently that’s the only thing she’s dyed all year.  So everything is Bridgerton now!  The Sherlock boxes were Bridgerton yarn, the Spaceballs boxes were Bridgerton yarn, everything!

She’s also claiming that she can’t send out dyed sock yarn because there’s not a single mill in the world with a supply of sock yarn for sale because of pandemic related shortages.  Many other hand dyers have happily pointed out that that is false, sock yarn is not in short supply.  The thought is that the suppliers have requested payment up front, and she doesn’t have the cash.

But yeah, so, all sorts of yarn drama in the yarn world.  Fun times!

Echo brain comic?? My beloved?

this one's pretty new and id like to in the least get some segments drawn up if i can

i went balls deep in depth about my personal ideas of Echo's structure and how it works, it has much more writing rn then art lemme get some snippets:

tech and echo begin digging around in his wiring as echo's health has lately began to decline rapidly. Blood transfusions are becoming daily, exhaustion occurs much quicker, and newest to the issues are these seemingly random seizures. They've attempted many outside options at remedying the problem but it was becoming urgently clear that the only way to get answers would be to open up his system and understand exactly how his body operates from the inside out. Echo is mostly on edge because he fears finding the answer that is he's just doomed to die soon, and that his body was in no way sustainable outside of that fridge. He fears the idea of dying so much that he has manic considerations of being put back in some sort of stasis chamber. Death, which he never feared prior to the citadel, but now he's come to be you know uhhh quite traumatized from it. But he also hates the idea of that fridge!! caught between two terrible options, wowie here ill add some more breakdown of that in a read more if anyone is interested in paragraphs of bullshit:

as for a brief descriptor on the shit on his head and body, from this paragraph:

Tech: these rivets across your skull are not simple ports one can just plug into. They're a very unique structure, containing an extremely delicate, but long system of thin metallic fibers wiring throughout your brain. These 'rivets' then act as anchors to those metal fibers, which then respond to very specific electric signals that we can access at the nodes on the surface here. If the signals sent are not exact. Well. Echo: yeah I get it I get it.

and some write up on how Tech begins to diagnose the problem:

Eventually Tech will find his way into deeper functions of the brain, finding shortcuts that were already developed by the Techno Union scientists for the sake of their own equipment likely. Categorized sections for monitoring all sorts of chemicals and levels within Echo's body, most of which were left on an automatic function to regulate.

Tech begins to understand that the key issue is that this program, and these automatic functions, were fitted for exactly the stasis chamber Echo had been put in, and if they want to begin fixing Echos phsyical body, he would have to start going in and coding line for line, functions that pertain to the body on a sustainability outside that fridge. Some functions were completely turned off, being that Echo was getting fed certain synthesized chemicals thru the machine, his brain had to be telling itself NOT to produce said things naturally.

But it's all very finicky work that requires continuous maintenance and updates, not much unlike a patch update to any other computer program, except this is Echo's life. It's an impossible amount of code to do in any short time frame, and so Tech will begin splicing lines of code from similar organic droids with systems of similar complexity.

They handle these sessions once per week, giving time for Echo's body to catch up and adjust. At first he begins feeling some nausea, his heart rate starts rising, but he insists something feels good about it and urges Tech to keep going. Echo begins to feel warmth back in his body, his mood increases, after about a month hair begins to grow again, muscle mass fills in what once was skeletal limbs, nail beds regain a lively shine. Besides a few errors in updates like over producing a chemical or small bouts of insomnia, everything seems On Course.

So now we get into the meat of the drama, which is a lot of Echo mania and identity issues:

By this point Tech has outfitted much easier screw on parts so they can go in and out of this program faster (the set up previously was hours of work) so pulling that up he theorizes that he will have to do more then just reverse programs that the Techno Union set up. Tech now believes he'll have to create NEW systems, as the old program appears to be getting corrupted from all of Tech's editing. The seizures are, at this point to their best guess, coming from this. That parts of his brain are literally crashing, and soon he's going to start having more serious issues like bro is gonna just have a massive stroke at some point. Tech points that out all regular voice and Echo is just 'great im back in the mental swamp' Now that Echo's learned that he has corrupted files eating away at his brain, and that the chance of having a massive stroke is like inevitable, he's back to feeling like anxious shit. It doesn't help that this will take Tech a lot of time to figure out. Truthfully he's putting as much effort as he can into it, but this is when Echo begins to get Really mentally unwell. He's both worrying and also trying NOT to worry out of fear that it's going to complicate the program even more. Echo begins to have identity issues, coming to rely more on the mechanics then the organics that make him. He doesn't feel like a human with robot parts anymore, he feels like a robot with human parts.

and it keeps going like there's parts where echo is begging Tech to up programs on dopamine generation and Tech has to turn him down cause that would just be creating an addiction problem, situations where Echo starts trying to mess with his own brain, situations where he tries to kill Tech, its a lot of rambling but im not a writer, like i can't write for shit and I'd like to try and draw it instead
