FFXV || Scrapped Pryna death Scene

Commentary by dataminer :

The following cutscene seems to have been created in a much earlier version of the game before Altissia was moved geographically on the map and before major story rewrites have taken place, which is why it takes place in nowhere. It was supposed to be set during the Leviathan fight. The scene never made it beyond a test so all animations depicted are very rough. It depicts that Noctis climbs up from something and finds Pryna having her last breath before finally dying. Footage recorded on v1.0 PS4.

Later this was added:

While it is true that Altissia has moved geographically, I have to amend my comment about it for this scene for now as some investigation reveals that the scene coordinates could have been possibly been modified by another script.

My thoughts under the cut:

idc that it's a death scene, Pryna is still Pryna and I love my doggo x)

In any case, I think it would have been way too much for Noct (and the player) to see her die while his friends and Luna and the whole city are under the same danger, so I think is fair he wasn't the one to find her like this. In Ep. Ignis the player already knows what happens at the end of it all, but as Noctis, everything is brand new, though I guess is all up to debate because of what ifs and what not.

Noctis' treatments have been going well...well enough that it seems evident that the royal Lucian family may be leaving soon. Lunafreya returns to that room in her home that houses Noctis, a red, leather bound notebook in her hands. With this Notebook of Memories, she makes a simple request.

Another day, another book in hand. Though, this was not just any kind of book that Lunafreya held; it was a red, leather bound journal embossed on the right corner with the image of flowers with petals that flared out, and a bird flying overhead in golden ink. She held it knowing that the time she had with the Prince of Lucis was limited, and she wanted to keep their budding friendship going till it could fully bloom.

Behind Lunafreya were two dogs that often accompanied her -- a pair of black and white canines. One a cross between a shiba and a malamute, the other more of a spitz.

Lunafreya rapped her knuckles against the door, waiting patiently until someone opened it. When finally the door opened, Lunafreya ended up looking at a woman dressed in a gown of green, her brown hair pinned back neatly, and a kind look on her face. Lunafreya had not often been in Aurae’s presence a lot of the time -- generally, she was not allowed over when Aurae was helping quell Noctis’ pain.

“Young Princess Lunafreya,” Aurae greeted, offering a courteous bow to the young royal. “Noctis is doing quite well today. Are you here to visit?”

“Mhm!” Lunafreya hummed in response. “I have a gift for him since I know you are to return to Lucis sometime soon.”

“That’s very kind of you,” Aurae commented, taking a moment to look over toward Noctis. Noctis was leaning over in his bed, peeking around the blue floral design partition that separated the entrance from the rest of the room. It was a sight that caused Aurae to smile in amusement before looking back toward Lunafreya and motioning into the room, inviting her in. “I dare say the young prince is eager to have some company.”

Reining in her want to gleefully skip inside, Lunafreya entered into the room with a hurried step, a smile growing upon her face. Both dogs that were at her back followed after her. Her appearance from beyond the partition made Noctis perk up with a smile of his own as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed in preparation for her to spend time with him. Once Lunafreya had a seat on the bed with him, she handed the book she had out toward him.

In the meantime, Aurae quietly excused herself with a warm smile on her face, closing the door as she departed. Noctis took hold of the book just as the door clicked shut, his attention going toward the exit for just a moment before he turned the leather bound book over in his hands.

“It's a notebook,” Lunafreya commented. Both dogs had taken a moment to pace and find a place to lay down not too far from them. Noctis followed them with his eyes briefly before he turned his attention back down toward the notebook.

“Oh.” Noctis opened it and flipped through the empty pages, noting the blank stationery. He eventually turned the pages over till he got to what was making a noticeable lump in the paper. Set there with a golden wax seal was a pressed dried flower, blue with flared petals. “Nice flower.”

“It's the same kind we sewed our crowns from.” Lunafreya brought her hand to her hair, feathering her fingers against her flaxen tresses as she imagined a sylleblossom crown adorning her head. She then leaned in to look over at the flower with a fond smile.

“Oh yeah, ‘sylleblossoms,’” Noctis recollected, running his fingers along the page close to the flower, a small smile growing upon his lips as he took in more of the appearance of it. His expression faltered somewhat before he looked at Lunafreya more directly. “Is there…anything you want me to do with it?”

“So…” Lunafreya began, kneeling down and resting her arms on the bed. “Take the notebook with you when you go back to Lucis. I'd like you to put something in the book and send it back.”

“‘Send it back’?” Noctis looked confused for a moment. He closed the notebook and looked at it with a furrowed brow. “How am I supposed to do that if even us being here is supposed to be secret? Won’t…Won’t Niflheim find out if we try to send each other stuff?”

Lunafreya looked over her shoulder toward the two dogs who basked in the sunlight that fell upon the tile. Her expression softened. “Those are Umbra and Pryna… They're divine messengers sworn to the family of Fleuret. They will see that the notebook is passed safely from you to me, or me to you. You need only call them, and they will hear you.”

Nodding, Noctis replied with a simple, “Sure.” holding the book closely. He hummed in thought, soon asking the important question: “What kind of stuff should I send back?”

At this, Lunafreya’s eyes brightened as her smile widened with Noctis’ interest. “Memories. Experiences. Things you don’t want to forget. Things you want to share. Stickers. Souvenirs. Anything that you think is interesting or worthy of your time.”

Reaching over, Lunafreya brought the empty notebook back to the pressed sylleblossom. “This is my first memory that I wanted to share that you can keep every time the book comes back to you. A reminder of your time here, and a symbol of Tenebrae.”

“Then…” Noctis mulled over his thoughts. “Oh! What if I sent you back a flower from Lucis? We have these really nice ones. Auntie Aurae calls them ‘morning glories’, but Dad calls them ‘moonflowers’. I can have Auntie Aurae make it like the one you have of the sylleblossom and send it back so you can see it!”

“I’d love to see it!” Lunafreya replied, her grin uncontrollable. “I don’t get to see a lot of flowers outside of the ones we grow here in our gardens. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a moonflower.”

“I think you’ll really like it. It’s big and round,” Noctis described, recalling how the flowers looked in his mind. “They only bloom at night. But…”

Noctis pointed a finger down on the blank page opposite the sylleblossom and gave Lunafreya a confident smile. “I’ll write down anything neat about it for you, too!”

official guide to umbra and pryna – umbra cropped weird because tumblr hates images but here they are ! speculative biology under the cut

theyre capable of parthenogenesis, which is like reproducing without a male. kinda like what happened in jurassic park with them all being girls but having that frog dna. it’s been seen in all sorts of animals and i’d have to scramble for like, the exact animal i went with for them (though they probably had different animals) yes this has led to a silly little hypothetical of umbra straight up spawning a cub. suprrise fuckers. i am committing to it though because like. science is fucking weird. so they’re basically mammals. but they also have just some… interesting dna the goal was intelligence and good guard/weapons. so i’m thinking there’s even like, gray parrot/dolphin/raccoon/crow like. high intelligence. these two are capable of speech so the bird dna could have contributed (i also was like… well what if dna was scraped from remains of a species in the same taxonomal family as nanaki) umbra as the king cheetah as the base, and german shepherd. HOWEVER. she also has other breeds and animals that mellow out the anxiety of a cheetah and the aggression/protectiveness of a GSD. she’s not going to like, tear someone apart if rufus is having a meltdown pryna is a siberian tiger base with tibetan mastiff. she is BUFF and FLUFFY. her coat is very soft and very long. she’s an aggressive guard animal, but not reactive. like she’s dialed back and more alert

i'm still in "no debating" mode, but i'm actually so irritated that the idea of Noctis dying after Leviathan is being passed around as canon, so i'm venting here

Noctis did not die after fighting Leviathan

he did not think he died either, and neither did Ignis, and it had nothing to do with Noct's character development from that point forward

Noctis being visited in dreams while unconscious is not new; he had a similar experience as a child when he fell into a coma after the Marilith attack and Carbuncle led him through a dream world. this is the plot of the Platinum Demo and its recurrence in the main game is most likely a purposeful callback to Versus XIII's themes involving sleep.

Lunafreya was not able to connect with Noctis this way because he died, but because she did. if Noctis had actually died there, it would have gone against all canon lore regarding the King, the Crystal, and the Ring, and the connection they share. even Ardyn was not planning to kill Noctis in Altissia because he knew he needed to get Noctis to the Crystal first.

i just. i really hate how this fandom just makes shit up out of nowhere and uses plotholes as an excuse. yes FFXV's story is very flawed. yes parts of it were very rushed. but none of that turns headcanon into canon...the lore of the game is still there, and it matters. there are already actual reasons why Noctis reacts the way he does post-Chapter 9, and they're not because he died. Ignis got a vision from Pryna regarding Noct's fate, and that's what shook him. he knew Noctis wasn't dead in Altissia. these are facts.

it's genuinely so frustrating putting so much time and effort into researching the source material of something you love, and then having to see stuff like this anytime you even attempt to engage with the rest of the community.

Okei I have to ask... Last day I see in Youtube comment in 'Ravus Aeterna' video someone writes 'Ravus is so interesting but he doesn't have scenes. If he has more scenes he will be the Artorias of FFXV'' I don't play Dark Souls but I knows a little of Artorias so my question is... What's your opinion about that comment?#GiveRavusmorescenesplease

Oooh, that is a really cool comparison, actually! Funny that you bring up Artorias, because he’s one of my favorite Soulsborne icons across the FromSoft games. Have a little figurine and everything that I love and cherish. 

I can see a lot of similarities between the two of them overall, but contrary to thought... Artorias only had, like, 40 seconds of screentime. But the major difference is that you got a crap ton of lore hidden throughout Dark Souls – something that Final Fantasy XVI should have done to really cover its bases when it comes to plot holes. I definitely would have made me log another 20+ hours into the game just meandering to find little juicy secrets and lore pieces hidden within items and locale details, you know? 

But I digress. The similarities between Artorias the Abysswalker and Ravus Nox Fleuret the High Commander Butthead, is kinda cool! Both are knights who are badasses with a single sword, both like dogs, both turn into gooey abyss boys, both get wrecked by the MC after they wrecked you seven-hundred times (no? Just me?) --- the list of similarities goes on! 

Okay, I joke a lot when I simplify it, but legit – the deep dive into the lore of these two is rad, so the comment really does hold up a little bit: 

Both were, of course, knights and soldiers. But both also have groups that, in a way, serve/follow them – with Artorias commanding Gywn’s army before eventually inspiring the Abyss Watchers and Ravus eventually leading the Niflheim army. Artorias may have had a much more pleasant group of supporters, but Ravus too had his own influence as time passed. 

Both wield the power of darkness on their side due to some aspect of corruption to them when they fight – before they turn fully corrupted, that is. Artorias's sword is cursed by the Abyss after travelling in and out of it. Meanwhile, Ravus’s arm is supposedly corrupted, as it’s realized that Magitek stems from Daemon power and scourge magic essentially. 

Speaking of arms... Both have crippled LEFT arm. Ravus of course had his burned by the Ring of Lucii and Artorias had his broken when trying to protect Sif from the creatures of the Abyss after being defeated by Manus. It’s why you see Artorias in his signature fighting stance – as he used to wield the Cleaning Greatshield before that. 

They both have some sort of closely associated canine companion – with Artorias having Sif and Ravus having Pryna and Umbra (to a degree). 

Both ultimately succumb to the darkness/abyss at some point, and yet both were still recognized as heroes after their death. Artorias was killed by the Chosen Undead after becoming fully corrupted, but he was still honored as a hero by most – enough to allow the Abyss Watchers to use him as their inspiration of sorts. Meanwhile after Ravus’s death, Noctis and the others found themselves with a great deal of respect for Ravus – especially when knowing he was attempting to help Noctis and the others before he was ultimately killed. 

In general, I think Artorias’s lore in Dark Souls is fantastic. And when you compare Ravus to it, it’s rather interesting to see overall. So yes! I can’t help but nod with that comment and go ‘Yeah... That sounds aight.’ -u-
