Personality: River is friendly and flirtatious, always trying to see the best in people. He has learned the value of teamwork over time, but his first instinct is always to rely on himself first, to do what he can on his own to protect himself, his friends, the world - before asking anyone else for help.

Backstory River lost his memories after the Calamity and has spent the time since his awakening searching for his identity. He has recovered fragmented memories of a village called Seine. He remembers learning at puberty that he was a boy, and leaving the hidden village with a male mentor to roam the wilderness and protect their people, as all young Viera men do.

Then... Nothing. The next thing he knows he was alone in the desert of Thanalan. He had to fend for himself, scavenging for food and fighting off wild beasts for days, maybe weeks until a passing merchant picked him up.

Jobs: At first, River apprenticed as a Thamaturge, because he needed the power. He had to protect himself without relying on anyone. He got pretty good at it, eventually becoming a Black Mage. He was able to use his powers not just to fend for himself and support a life of adventure, but to help others, too.

Over time, he learned that even with the most powerful spells he still fared better when he had help from his friends. He discovered a passion for dancing, and learned the Kreigstanz to help him be a team player in combat. With the help of his mentor and troupe, he became a very talented Dancer.

After the liberation of Ala Mhigo, River realized that he was a major player in the fate of Eorzea. It seemed it would be very helpful if he knew more about the cosmology of his star and the wider universe, and incidentally knowing some healing magic wouldn't hurt either. He took a trip to Ishgard to learn astrology, and as his friends started falling into comas one by one, it became ever more urgent. So he became a full-fledged Astrologian before finding himself on the First.

Once the Final Days had been averted, River found himself with some downtime. He asked Estinien to teach him to be a Dragoon, but Estinien grumpily directed him to the lancers guild. With his now-considerable battle experience, confused and impressed the Lancers' guild by showing up fresh off his vacation time at Costa Del Sol, wearing shorts and sandals and nothing protective at all. Estinien showed up to help River train once rumours reached his ears that the Warrior of Light was the star pupil of the Lancers’ guild. But in the end, River didn’t take to the lance as much as he did to chakrams or cards.

One day, River heard a rumour about a man who had been cut down by the Temple Knights as a heretic, despite the efforts made towards reform after the end of the dragonsong war. River connected with the anger and darkness inside of himself that he had long been suppressing, and became a Dark Knight. It’s therapeutic to allow himself to explore his feelings now that the fate of the world no longer hangs in the balance.

Relationships: Yes. River has a wide variety of romantic and sexual relationships. His responsibilities as the Warrior of Light keep him from making strong commitments to any individual, so it’s only fair that they seek out others while he is far from them, if they choose. In turn, they extend that courtesy to him. Being the Warrior of Light can be isolating, so he has made deep connections with as many people as he can in order to feel less alone, wherever he goes. He has enough love in his heart for all of them. Each relationship is different, shaped by the people involved. With Thancred, it’s casual and sexual. With Hien, it’s serious and romantic, with lots of pining over the distance that keeps them apart. With Y’shtola, things get a little kinky. There are as many more, each relationship and each partner unique in their own way.

A warm smile paired with intense bright green eyes greet each new face with compassion and an open heart. Mere ilms away one could catch scents of flora, woods, and cut grass lingering on the Viera- a scent always true to who she is and a reflection of her passion as an Gleaner. Distinguishing Features: Vieran male. Lotta blue. Speaks Eorzean with a noticeable but pleasant accent akin to Finnish. Faded scars across his back and torso. Brand on the back of neck to identify him as a Garlean prisoner, usually covered by hair.

Löksen was a typical Wood-warder many years ago, until the day the Garlean empire attacked Dalmasca. During a periodic visit to his home village, hearing disturbing rumors that Garlemald had set eyes on Dalmasca. Having proven to be a great archer, the leaders urged him and a small group of other Wood-warders to make a trip to Dalmasca to convince the Viera living in the city to come home.

Ultimately, they failed. Having scarcely arrived in the foreign city, it was overrun by Garlean forces and the other men were killed in the ensuing battles and Löksen taken prisoner for several years. During his imprisonment at a Garlean labor camp, Löksen was a target of fascination and sometimes ridicule as a rare male of an already elusive people. His Wood-warder background prepared him for the harsh conditions of the camp and helped him survive. His time in the camp also introduced him to a variety of people and cultures that he never would have encountered otherwise. Imprisoned Sharlayan scholars taught him the Eorzean language, an old Hingan woman taught him the way of the samurai, a pair of Lalafell smugglers regaled him with stories of Ul'dah, among others.

Eventually, the camp was inadvertently liberated by Bahamut's rampage and during the chaos, Löksen fought and killed the Garlean officer who had served as a tormentor and overseer and took their gunblade as a trophy that he carries with him.

Now he wanders Etheirys partly as an adventurer inspired by the stories of his fellow inmates about the diverse lands they came from, but also to try to escape a sense of guilt for failing his people in Dalmasca and trying to seek solace.

Hey there, mun here. I'm pretty flexible on how to start interactions. I'm completely open to discussing things or just go with the flow, provided you start of course.

I designed Loksen to essentially be a support character. He's not a WoL, he's not blessed with Echo. Honestly, my goal with him is to bring texture and enhance YOUR story. I suppose I'm more focused on being a character than a protag, I guess.

He's got his own little stories, but I'm here to make friends and try my hand at a creative outlet that I haven't done in several years.

Anyways, here's some possibilities!

Yojimbo: A wandering warrior of no small skill. Something need doing? Body? Guarded. Bounties? Hunted. Monsters? Slain. Need a courier because you can't deliver through regular services? He's got legs.

Animal-lover: He will pet the animals.

Tarzan Boy: You can take the Wood-warder out of the woods, but you can't take the warder out... of... the... Well, Loksen prefers to be out in nature when he gets the chance and he can be a bit wild. Maybe you encounter him out in the Shroud climbing amongst the trees and foraging for food.

"Where'd You Get That?!": As a samurai, Loksen carries an extremely unusual blade: the gunblade of a Primus Ordinarius of exquisite craftsmanship. Sure to draw the attention of any Garleans affiliated character. It has been modified to be suited for fighting in the manner of the legendary Hingashi warrior tradition.

An Au Ra whose face is always scowling or smirking, never anything in between. Shiun is brash, rude, and loud - fueled by constant rage. He acts almost purely on instinct and impulse, which causes his friends no small amount of stress. Don't be fooled by his prickly attitude, he's a true hero with a heart of gold. Devoted to saving and serving as many people as he can to the point of being self-sacrificing. Good luck prying any of his deep emotions out of him, he'd really prefer that those stay hidden.

B A C K S T O R Y | |

Shiun grew up in Doma during the Garlean occupation, so his early life was full of troubles. His parents were quiet artisans that submitted, which afforded them a fairly upper-class lifestyle. But Shiun was different in a way they didn't like. He got into fights with other kids, ignored his schoolwork, and was angry at the injustices he saw all around him. His family did everything they could to extinguish the fire in his heart, but he wouldn't be put down any further. After a chance encounter with a resistance fighter, he fought back against a Garlean soldier that had been harassing people in his village. The Empire didn't take kindly to that, and his family suffered for it. He barely escaped and was forced into exile at the young age of 9. Eventually, he made his way to the Azim Steppe and was taken in by a kind family in the Malaguld Xaela tribe. Scarred by his failed attempt at resistance and the pain it caused, he kept his head down and stewed in his anger for years. That is, until a voice called him to a distant land...

Alphinaud & Alisaie | practically siblings

Shiun is fiercely protective of the twins. He sees a lot of his younger self in them and has taken on a brotherly role with them. He hates that they've been thrust into this world at such a young age, and tries to urge them to just be kids every once in a while.

Thancred | lover

At first, Shiun couldn't stand Thancred. His overconfident playboy persona really got on Shiun's nerves, so he went out of his way to piss off Thancred, too. After rescuing him from Lahabrea, he stopped being so antagonistic. Over the course of the Dragonsong war, Shiun's feelings towards Thancred began to change, which REALLY freaked him out. So much so, that he pretty much ignored Thancred's existence throughout Stormblood while he considered things. He figured it out pretty quick once the Scions started getting yoinked to another realm. More on this later...

Y'shtola | voice of reason

Shiun appreciates Y'shtola's sharp wit and sharper tongue. She sees right through his bullshit and is often scolding him for his reluctance to rely on others. They get into banter contests a lot, which he rarely ever wins.

Urianger | jock & nerd

When they first met, Shiun couldn't understand a word Urianger was saying, but he learned to communicate with him over the course of their adventures. He's got a good friendship going with Urianger, where he patiently explains complex things to Shiun five times and Shiun helps him get better at socializing.

Tataru | ride or die

Shiun would die for Tataru. She continues to baffle him with her limitless talent towards anything other than combat, and he'll do pretty much anything she asks him to. To be honest, her ability to sniff out the truth and love of gossip frightens him a little bit.

Estinien | friendly rivalry

Despite being an axe-user, Shiun's skill with the lance is nothing to sneeze at. The two talk through their sparring more than they do with their words. Shiun was happy when Estinien decided to stop skulking about and join the Scions, but he still gives him shit about it.

G'raha | brotherly friends

When he found out just how much G'raha idolized him, Shiun was flabbergasted. He certainly wasn't used to that amount of admiration, and he found it difficult to deal with at first. But the hesitation faded away as G'raha accompanied him on more and more outings. Now Shiun thinks of him as a brother and irreplaceable friend, determined to make him into a hero too.
