“And nobody’s been feedin’ him extra, right? No table scraps? So why’s that pup gettin’ to be so round…?”
“Not a clue! Besides, it’s not hurtin’ anything is it? He’s a growing dog!”
“Wolf, he’s a wolf, Lev. And if he gets any fatter he’s going to become a cannonball…”

FFXIV Write Entry #4: Lominsan Girls
Tumblr media
Prompt: reticent || Master Post || On AO3
---
Nhaama bless every hair on their ridiculous heads, but sometimes Alakhai’s fellow Upright Thieves could not shut up.
She wouldn’t have minded the sound bouncing around the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss—the hum and chatter of daily activity was a soothing sound all the way back to her childhood on the Steppe, where silence was only acceptable when out alone in the grasslands—but Jacke’s ego had swelled up after leading his first successful mission without supervision from the guildmaster. Three years her junior, Jacke was already being groomed to eventually take over the leadership of the Upright Thieves, and normally he had a fairly good head on his shoulders.
But teenage boys were teenage boys no matter how well-behaved they could be, and V’kebbe had decided his pride needed deflating.
T’vanoh had shaken his head as the pair devolved into name-calling in both standard Eorzean and thieves’ cant, but had merely waved Alakhai on as she had stomped out of the convent. The surest way to rein Jacke in was to have one of his peers yank him down to ground level with the rest of them, and trying to step in between Jacke and V’kebbe when they were a hair away from outright brawling was never wise, so she knew why the guildmaster didn’t try to pull them apart. Didn’t mean Alakhai was willing to tolerate the noise, on top of everyone else chattering in an attempt to drown the two out.
Not for the first time in her life, Alakhai thought the Qestir had the right idea about words and talking and just not bothering.
So instead of curling up for a nap in her hammock, Alakhai was out in Fisherman’s Bottom, feet dangling in the water of the harbor as she sat on the edge of one of the currently-empty piers with a little wooden tray overflowing with fish and chips in her lap. The boat she’d bought her lunch from was one pier over, and she’d return the tray once she’d finished. Much as she had wanted that nap, food was a decent secondary option.
She sniffed appreciatively; there was something about fried food that always made her happy. Maybe it was because it was the one of the few constants between the Steppe and Yanxia and Kugane and Eorzea: everyone had at least one dish they put something in dough or a batter and then dunked in hot oil to cook.
Alakhai took out her pocket knife, about to cut into the thick filet of fried cod to make easier pieces to pick up, when a tromp of boots along the wood caught her attention. The footsteps were coming towards her, and then stopped a handful of fulms away. She lifted her head to see who had come to bother her.
The lean, gangly Highlander girl in arcanist greys, nerves dancing in her green eyes behind a mask of steely determination, brown hair sporting fresh grass-green dye and pulled back into a braid that hit the back of her knees, was not the person Alakhai had been expecting. She was not even in the top ten.
But Alakhai did recognize her. She was in only the second, maybe third, official class of baby arcanists of the newly-formed Arcanists’ Guild, and Alakhai had seen her and her classmates throughout Limsa Lominsa over the past two moons, usually in Hawker’s Alley and the food stalls. This one stood out especially; there was a small Highlander population in the city, expat mercenaries who had been stranded when Ala Mhigo had fallen to the Garleans, but there were very few of this one’s age that were local.
Good sense for trouble on her. The first time Alakhai had seen her, the baby arcanist had clocked one of the shadier pirates eyeing one of her classmates as they had waited for their orders at Mama Fyrwyb’s fish stall, and put herself between the creep and her friend. Alakhai had been on duty in the Alley that day, and she had chucked said shady pirate into the harbor and a slipped word to one of the Yellowjackets before skulking back into the crowd.
“Do you mind if I sit here?” the student arcanist said.
Alakhai glanced down quickly, noting the bucket she had in hand. Probably full of oysters purchased from the Fishers’ Guild; her own lunch then.
Eh, why not?
“Go ahead,” Alakhai said.
The girl stepped closer, crouching down to set her bucket aside and then quickly work her boots off. She sat properly on the edge of the pier, legs dangling down into the cool water up to her skins, and pulled her bucket closer as she pulled a pocket knife from the pouch on her belt.
A flash of turquoise caught Alakhai’s eye, and she turned to see an emerald carbuncle toddle up and loaf itself next to its person. The carbuncle turned to look at her, and Alakhai blinked as it—she?—gave her a narrow-eyed once over. After a minute of feeling as if she was being assessed by something that wasn’t just a mere magical construct, the carbuncle turned away and cuddled her hyur.
Alakhai blinked again. Huh.
Lunch passed quietly. The Highlander shucked oysters, slurping contently and ensuring her empty shells went back into the bucket so the fishers could reseed the local oyster beds. Alakhai neatly dunked strips of fried cod into fresh tartar sauce, enjoying the mix of crisp breading, tender fish, and tangy sauce, interspersing them with unceremoniously shoving the thick-cut popoto chips into her mouth, wonderfully crunchy on the outside and soft and still hot on the inside.
Neither of them spoke, but the silence wasn’t uncomfortable. In fact, Alakhai would call it pleasant. Sitting with this baby arcanist felt like when Alakhai had spent time with her auntie on foal watch; just enjoying one another’s company and the simple joy of sharing a beautiful day with another person.
Eventually, Alakhai’s tray was empty. She sighed contently, stomach pleasantly full, and pushed herself to standing, shoving her still-wet feet into the loose sandals she had. She tucked the tray under her arm, ready to return it to the lunch boat, but took a step towards the arcanist and stuck out her hand.
“Alakhai,” she said simply.
The arcanist looked up at, still chewing one of her last oysters, surprise on her face. But she swallowed, and smiled, a little shy. She took Alakhai’s hand. “Synnove,” she said in turn as they shook. “And this is Galette.”
The carbuncle sneezed.
“Nice to meet you both,” Alakhai said. “I’ll see you around.”
Synnove waved, her smile a little less shy, and Alakhai wandered back down the pier, a sense of satisfaction curling in her chest.

Countdown to Shadowbringers - Day 13: Favorite NPC
V’kebbe, The Stray
Tumblr media
While I do enjoy the Rogue’s guild as a whole I namely like V’kebbe most due to her moment with Jacke and the stolen sandwich, would honestly do the same
Also a little headcanon: Whenever Shaohao visits Limsa Lominsa he usually stops by the Rogue’s guild to make and give out some of his own spin on finger sandwiches given his time at the Culinatarian’s guild

Upright Traitors (AO3)
Betrayed and framed for Regicide, Aymeric and Estinien flee Ishgard into the arms of the elusive Warrior of Light and her network of rogues.
Rating: M, no archive warnings apply
Characters: Aymeric de Borel, Estinien Varlineau, Jacke Swallow, V’kebbe, Perimu Haurimu, Haurchefant Greystone, Ser Zephirin
Pairing: Estinien / F! Warrior of light
Other tags: role reversal, angst, hurt/comfort, betrayal, slow burn, the rogues guild, the knights dragoon, pirates, Ishgardian politics, espionage, FFXIV: Heavensward
Estinien was peripherally aware that he was exhausted. Snow melted off his grieves and dripped onto the floor. He kept his eyes fixed to Aymeric’s slowly rising and falling chest on the narrow bed. The Warrior kept hers fixed to the horizon.
“Were we followed?” he asked after some time. It could have been an hour. It could have been five minutes.
“Not yet,” she said quietly. “If they are clever they may trace us to the Moraby Docks, but from there they cannot know which way we went.”
“Many saw us arrive.”
She shrugged. “Snitching is a mortal sin in Limsa.”
“Righteous men commit mortal sins all the time,” he said in an empty voice, watching the healer leave with the tray full of arrowheads they pulled from Aymeric’s ruined torso.
He had known many of those archers. He had trained alongside some of them. Their blood was flaking off of the hinges of his gauntlets.

FFxivWrite2020 day 20: In the dead of night
@ffxiv-writers
Spoilers for patches prior to Heavensward and slight suggestive themes near the end.
It’s been a while since Jacke saw Aribethe, the poor miqo’te being as she put it in her letters up to her ears in political bullshit for the scions and Crystal Braves. Jacke had been tempted to go find her, steal her away for a fortnight or two to give the girl a break.
He needn’t bother though. She comes to him, late and in the dead of night one late eve, to his room as he was finishing up a journal entry and were it not for her far from silent footsteps he wouldn’t have noticed. At her entry he turns, seeing her garbed in attire he knew she wouldn’t normally wear, browns and greens with a brown hood. She looked so different, it was only thanks to her eyes and tattoos he recognized her.
She looks haunted, mismatched eyes wide and hollow. Hair now cut so much shorter and ragged, no longer the long locks he’d run his fingers through as he held or kissed her, colored raven black as well with only the ends showing any of the original brown she had. Her staff is nowhere to be seen, replaced with just a wand.
She’s shaking as she rushes to him, sinking into his embrace without a thought as he readily welcomes his distressed beloved into his arms.
“...All S-Scions-F-Framed, branded mu-murderer.” she manages, trembling never ceasing as he tried to calm her, she sounds close to crying. “I-I-I can’t-Have, have to go seek refuge in, in, Ishgard.” She looks up at him then, a shaking hand raising to cup his cheek and tears pool in her eyes. “I don’t-I don’t know when I’ll, I’ll be able to see you again.”
He wants to ask, but she looks like she needs no more reminder of what was making her like this. Instead, he brings her into a kiss, one she readily leans into and deepens with desperation.
This could very well be the last night they spend together for a while, and it was unspoken agreement between the two as she let him back her up to his bed, kisses and touches becoming more frantic and desperate, that they weren’t going to waste it.
Jacke only hoped he’d be able to follow her, V’kebbe had proven herself a outstanding stand in guildmaster for the rogues guild when he was away last time, as with how distressed his Starlight was, much like after the massacre of the Scions so long ago, he did not and would not leave her to fend for herself in unknown land.

15 &16 for brina!
15. Is your character proficient with any methods of attack (such as weapons or magic)? If so, which ones, and how did they learn to use them? Do they, or would they ever, own a “job stone”? If not, then is that by choice, or happenstance? Would they learn if circumstances changed?
Brina’s pretty competent with the shortblades, or daggers. She’s not a master or anything, but her skills are good enough to get the job done, whether it’s self-defense or something with more deadly intent. She’s also been trained somewhat in hand-to-hand combat, mostly as a last ditch form of defending herself if she loses her blades.
She uses no magic, nor does she have a job stone. As far as Brina figures, she doesn’t need a fancy stone or flashy abilities to do what she does, just her wits and her eyes and a fast pair of daggers. She’s probably the most “normal” of all of my girls, if you ignore the horrific backstory.
16. If your character was injured and needed help, who would they go to? Or would they try to deal with things themselves? Do they have many personal allies and friends in Eorzea, or do they try to stay independent?
Brina has exactly three friends in this world. That’s not to say that she doesn’t consider the rest of the crew of the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss part of her adopted family, but it’s Jacke, Underfoot, and V’Kebbe that she trusts absolutely, both with her life and her secrets.
That being said, it can be a difficult line to tread between knowing that she can trust them to take care of her and not wanting to worry them over something she thinks she can handle on her own. Especially when it comes to Jacke, who can be a bit...zealous in his ways of protecting her when he thinks she’s overdone it. She’s tried to handle some situations where she was just too incapacitated to deal with things on her own, and it’s been the subject of more than a few arguments on occasion. So now Brina tries to be more mindful of what she can and can’t handle, and makes an effort to put her trust in her friends over her pride.

FFXIV : A guide to Rogue Speak
I wanted to make this guide not only for myself to reference as I’m rping Captain Jacke, but for others who would like to write as Rogue characters in a ffxiv setting and also might need reminders on what certain words mean. This could also be used for those who interact with me and can’t understand what Jacke is suppose to be saying.
Feel free to reblog, and also feel free add anything if you think I missed something!
Basics;
no g’s.
Words ending in ing will always be without the g when a rogue is speaking. somethin’, mullin’, sulkin’, etc. Even in the event of an s coming after the g, ‘findings’ for example, V’kebbe still says ‘findin’s’.
do not want the d
With the word ‘and’, the d is normally taken off. And is really the only word i’ve seen where this is the case though.
No ou in you
words like you or your do not exist. ever. It would instead be said ye or yer. Even in words like you’ll, ye’ll is still the proper way to say it in this context . Pretty much replace the ou with e.
no such thing as of
Normally of is shortened to just an o. ‘Art o’ sulkin’ and ‘ ye’d be adrift in an ocean o’ quarrons! ‘ are some examples.
NOW THE FUCKING WORDS
okay the wordplay with rogue’s is ridiculous, let’s just get that out of the way now. But I’ll put down what rogue’s will say and what it actually means. Most of these I got from a thread on reddit where someone did something similar, some of these i’ll be going through and checking in game myself.
Left will be what rogue’s will say, right will be the meaning
Banded = Hungry  Beater cases = Shoes Benar = Better Bene = Good (or something along those lines) Bite = Steal Blow the gab = Snitch Blunt = Coin, Gil Bob = Good / done (possibly a context thing) Boomsticks = Guns Cloy = Steal Colt = Rookie Cov = Man Cry cockles = Confess Culls = People cutters = people Daddles = Gloves? Dance = Fight Darkmans = Night Dew Beaters = Feet Dimber Damber= Skilled Comrade /skill rogue (more or less the same thing just context) Dove = Female, lady Famble = Hand Glazes = Eyes Gob = Mouth Hop the twig = Escape Custody Lend one’s daddles = Help Lightmans = Day Longboat’s deal = trade at sea Mill = To beat / fight Mort = Lady Prattle = Talk Rook = Cheater / trickster / Target (in some context, it just applies to someone the rogue is after) Ruffmans = enemy / lowlife Rum / rummy tale = curious tale Set aglimmer = to set on fire Skulk = to hide  Snilch = to check on Stabber = knife / dagger Stow yer quibs = shut your trap (or something along these lines) Stubble it = Shut up Swads = people? Try one’s fams = Give it a try Tub = Ship Up to scratch= up to par / up to standard Wattle = Ear? Whiddled = figured Yaffle a bite = Eat Yaffling = Bothering?
Small notes:
I’ve  noticed Jacke say things like ‘beasties’ when referring to animals/things he sends you to kill. might just be a him thing.
He also uses the word ‘outta’ instead of out of, so it might stand that he says things like ‘gotta’ too. Personally I also like to add ‘ta’ instead of ‘to’.
Jacke says Aye instead of yes, and i’ve also noticed  he had said ‘ho there’ instead of something like ‘hi there’.
Rogue’s use ‘lad’ and ‘lass’ when referring to people. It’s not just Jacke multiple rogue’s use it and i think it also just goes in hand with limsian speak overall
I know in the case of underfoot and V’kebbe, they use the word ‘me’ instead of ‘my’ in some instances. Not every time, mind you
V’kebbe refers to the sandwich she got at the Bismark a one of those ‘tasties’. Guessing some kind of slang for food that tastes good.
Some of the rogue’s say ‘ ‘round ‘ instead of around. not sure if they all do it.
Ain’t instead of aren’t most times.
Everything else is just adjusting to the words/phrases used in Limsa or in game generally.
I hope this was a help!

It’s my FFXIV Anniversary!
I decided to redraw one of my first ever drawings of her, it’s a picture that at the time I wasn’t happy with and never felt I finished. Guess it ended up taking two years!
In any case, Happy Anniversary, Happy Nameday Ari! Thank you for being a sort of my life.

I have made this blog into a solely FFXIV multimuse, as I have seen pretty much no RP community for my other muses and they never got any use.
I’ll likely add more XIV muses to the list as I go along, but for now the muses available for interaction are:

Entry #9: Multitasking
FFXIV Write 2017 prompt #9: linkpearl
A/N: So I liked this idea more. Also, Alakhai. Yay, Alakhai!
“Excuse me, Alakhai, do you have a minute?”
Synnove’s voice was the half-frustrated, half-distracted tone of an arcanist deeply involved in a research problem who’d hit a wall and was currently beating her head against it. Alakhai let herself smile, and hummed lightly under her breath as she crept down the dock.
“Thank you,” her friend said fervently. “All right, I’ve been working on increasing the rate of aether coalescence on carbuncle-quality emeralds-”
The Xaela ducked behind a stack of crates as a patrol passed. She narrowed her eyes; no, those colors were not on the friendly list. This was definitely where the pirates were berthing when they snuck into Limsa Lominsa to offload their cargo.
“-too many new students coming in that we can rely on naturally-coalesced stones any longer, though thankfully we won’t need to worry about doing the same for topazes and rubies for a while yet. Now, on paper the math works out, but in practice the rate of channeled aether gets wildly out of control, to the point the stone cracks-”
Alakhai snuck up behind a guard, slamming the pommel of her dagger into his temple. He went boneless without even a breath of surprise, and Alakhai caught him under his arms. She dragged him behind another stack of cargo, then knelt down, leaned over, and knocked on the underside of the dock.
“-used unaspected crystals as a buffer, did nothing-”
Other members of the Rogues’ Guild swarmed up top, and in single file they prowled up the gangplank of a docked merchantman.
“-even wind-aspected crystals are doing shite, and the explosions are just nasty-”
Out of the corner of her eye, Alakhai saw Vkebbe knock out a pirate and quickly begin the process of stringing him up. She let Synnove’s ranting wash over her as she found her own target and did the same; soon a gaggle of strung-up pirates decorated the masts and rigging, and off it was to find the cargo while Jacke marched the captain off to the Admiral.
As the Rogues cracked open the false bottom in the hold, Alakhai said, “Have you tried chaining the crystals?”
“...Come again?”
Alakhai reached down and hefted up the container of stolen ceruleum handed to her by Perimu, passing it the next rogue in line behind her, and continuing the process as they emptied the smuggler’s hold. “Chain unaspected with wind. Unaspected, wind, unaspected, wind. Wind keeps the aether steady and pure, the unaspected catch the run off.”
“...You are brilliant and amazing and I love you. I’ll run the numbers to double check and then rush it down to the research team. Thank you, Alakhai!”
Alakhai hummed a reply, smiling as the line went quiet, and went back to work.
