And then yes it was rather silly sometimes and I went wtf this isn't like the base game, but then I got into it. It's got too many mini-games, but I still really like it. I find it compelling. when i first played FFX as a teen and saw Lulu's massive gazongas on display constantly (that victory pose man) my brain came up with the term 'Titty Lulu' which means 'character, usually a woman, that has a huge rack in a comically revealing outfit and its a miracle that theres no nip slip'. pops into my head everytime theres a character with massive honkers on display now.

On my 10 or more years of drawing/rendering/modding Jecht as b - a - r - a , I have to admit but it is hilarious seeing "fans" complaining that "I made him b - a - r - a and tanned when he is not!"

And I'm like… "Have you seeing his CG on Dissidia, no?"

Specially when others have made some of the characters of PKM as if it they where bodybuilders but they're slender as HELL in canon.

You have to appreciate how Yuna insults Dona so politely. And likewise, Lunafreya does the same thing when it comes to Leviathan. And if you aren't clever, you might not even realize you'd just been insulted by them!

And Luna's character was somewhat inspired by Yuna's. She was even really named for her (as "Yuna" and "Luna" both mean moon and are only one letter apart). So I wonder if the devs, perhaps, were thinking of that Yuna scene when they made the Luna one.

What is... crack?

While the name does come from the illegal substance, when it comes to fiction it refers to a scenario that is so bizarre and basically implausible in canon that it seems like the author must have been under the influence while writing it.

Crack fics are intentionally absurd and ridiculous and often they are also humorous. They are not supposed to present actual theories about canon stories, but a test on how far someone could go with the source material. It's not easy to create a well-written crack fic, even though it can be easy to write crack.

There is also the possibility of crack pairings (also named Crackships). They are pairings that are completely out there, often not even from the same universe and they make people ask themselves, how anyone could look at those characters and make them end up with each other.

fun thing I'm enjoying this go round of replaying ffx is like. the fact that braska's pilgrimage was considered a joke at the time, but he's known in the present as this great iconic figure. and in fact you only really learn he wasn't well liked from one of the optional jecht spheres. braska and auron are famous and beloved and remembered as heroes! no one seems to remember that braska's wife was al bhed--it's at least not common knowledge enough that it's news to wakka. no one remembers auron being in disgrace for refusing to marry some important guy's daughter either! (i had also forgotten this and was really knocked over by it. really really forgot that auron is just gay like absolutely for real.) it's just like, yeah, of course that's true—a summoner is more useful to maintaining yevon's power when they're dead, and then anything inconvenient about them can be erased.

Soooo started Tales of the Abyss now! (I kept thinking it's called Tales of Abyss, without the "the", RIP me) Must say, this immediately felt incredibly different of a premise to Vesperia (the only Tales I have finished til now) and Zestiria (which I... maybe barely passed the prologue, lol). I think a lot of that is because of Luke and his situation. Getting into that later on.

But! Let's start from the top.

Absolutely gorgeous opening for one, really loved it. I probably got spoilered without realizing it, but with no context, that's not terrible. I remain blissfully unaware!

It immediately felt a bit faster paced story-wise. A bit more emotionally taxing on the protagonist, too. To start, I open the game and get immediately met with red-headed, hot-headed Luke (who is fittingly spoken by Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced Tidus in FFX) and Ithink he's an upbeat headstrong guy - which he is but -

I barely leave his room to get thrown a skit immediately:

I hit the mental breaks when I read that because what. What. You just kept your kid inside like a pet or something?

I mean, in Vesperia, Estelle had a sheltered upbringing as well, and was certainly a bit on the naive side, but she at least was acutely aware of the world outside of the walls of her prison. Luke is not even given that, which you realize approximately two minutes into the game since his only contact to the outside world seems to be his swordfight trainer Van. I am absolutely flabbergasted. This is damaging to a kid!

(And no, this is no normal response to your kid getting kidnapped. Protecting him is one thing. Putting him on house arrest a whole other. I suspect it's not just a security thing but there is more going on here.)

And then next mental break: What the hell is Flynn Scifo doing here?

I'm joking, I'm joking. And yes I have been informed that technically, Flynn is a copy of Guy since Vespy came out later. But still. With my minimum knowledge of Tales, forgive me for immediately drawing connection to Versperia at every turn. And the likeness is startling! XD He seems to be a good guy that Guy (pft) so for now, I like the boy.

Ah. Really glad I decided to explore the rooms a little. This is...

Well. I assume this was meant to be one of those anime-typical jokes of "haha, he's afraid of this or that" but... call me old-fashioned or a snowflake or whatever the correct term is but I don't think this is very funny. These two quite literally have him cornered, and he looks outright terrified of them. And instead of backing off - or Luke rescuing him - we just have to leave again? Uff. Don't like.

Never quite liked making fun of things others are afraid of, not even if it seems silly from outside.

... Oh wow. Luke is even more sheltered than I thought. This seems to be general, public knowledge, and he got nothing? Does he not get any kind of schooling while on house arrest?

From their reactions, this is not something he is supposed to know but forgot, but more like, nobody even told him. That's... okay. I seriously question his parents right now as well as Van for not teaching him even basics of the outside world.

(On the other hand, in a sense of dumbing it all down for a new player, this is quite genius. Given that Luke needs to be explained everything, so does the player learn at the same time. but still. Questionable decisions all around.)

Yes I'm already going full on protective mama bear mode on Luke. Give me a caged, sad kid who tries to put on a loud and confident facade and I immediately go "mine" XD

Kupo Con: Pom2, London, 15th & 16th September 2023

Where do I even begin! What a weekend!

Long story under the cut, because I need to tell you everything 😆

Starting off on Friday the 15th, we drove down to our hotel in Watford, which allowed us to get a train into London for Pre-Reg, which was available for Patreons of KupoCon, to get our tickets.

A lot of people were there and I probably knew half of them, or more, from the Discord Server but I was too nervous and shy to go over and say hello. Until I saw the only one I’d met previously, I went over and said hello! She then introduced me to one of the other people there, the cosplayer who won the “People’s Choice” Cosplay award last Kupo and who has been incredibly supportive of me every time I’ve shared progress on Discord and our meeting went like this… (using initials for privacy ☺️)

L: “Hey R this is P, from the discord!”

R: “Are you Blossom!?”

P: “Yes!”

R gives me a big hug

I spent a while talking with him and I think we became fast friends, I felt like I’d known him for ages! (Technically kind of had, because we’ve been talking in the discord) and I was really nervous but he was so lovely and made it so easy to talk to him!

Then, because of train times, we had to leave, but I’d met several of the other cosplayers (mainly Clives… no joke! I met 3 all at the same time!) and I was absolutely buzzing for the main event!

Saturday the 16th, the main event! Me and my mum got to the venue just as the doors opened, within 10mins I was in an elevator with a Noctis cosplayer, who jokingly asked if they’d survive this elevator ride! 😆 I then had a Sephiroth comment on my cosplay as I walked past

I met up with R because I knew how excited he was to see my cosplay, we had another hug (as much as we both could manage anyway; I was in a tight black coat and he was in full Clive cosplay) and he went off to support his friend who was dressed as FFXs Ifrit!

While waiting for the Opening Ceremony to start, I got given my first Masquerade Token! I was beside myself with excitement! I couldn’t believe it!

The Opening Ceremony was so fun! I met a friend who I’ve known online since December, which was amazing!

And then the Cosplay Parade happened! John Bentley (Barret FFVIIR) and Liam Mulvey (Libertus FFXV Kingsglaive) were presenting it, they were both so enthusiastic about it! I was really nervous because I was stepping up onto a stage in front of a lot of people, but I did it, and Liam’s reaction was priceless!

Then we went on our way, wandering the stalls and doing quests. Every time I passed R and his group, he checked in with me, to make sure I was ok and having a good time, which I really appreciated as it was my first Kupo and Cosplay.

Then I joined the queue to meet Liam… I said hello and gave him a print of a commission I’d had done earlier in the year and then he signed my own copy of the print… and then he gave me a Masquerade Token and I was lost for words! Because I didn’t realise the guests would also have tokens!

Riding that high, I decided to join the queue to meet John. And WOW! That man is amazing! He’s so lovely and excited and genuinely loves the community! Once he’d signed my print we went to get a picture, and he complimented me on my cosplay, when I said it was my first one, he was amazed! So he told his wife (who was holding my phone to take the picture for me) to video a message, which is of him saying how awesome my cosplay was, then he gave me another Token! I couldn’t believe it! I excitedly told R what had happened and he said how amazing that was too!

By the end of the day and the start of the Closing Ceremony I had been given 9 Tokens! I had been saying in the Discord Server that 1 or 2 would be amazing! But I got 9!!!

I stayed with R for the Closing Ceremony, chatting and laughing, someone he knew from a past event complimented me on my cosplay, which R instantly agreed with, he was so supportive of everything and I will always be grateful for that

Both the “People’s Choice” and “Staff Choice” award was won by a cosplayer who made, and was operating, Hell House from FFVII which was a much deserved win.

It was at the end of the Closing Ceremony that I got a selfie with Ben, I’d spoke to him briefly earlier, after his panel, saying that I was hoping to get into the queue to meet him properly, to which he replied “Ok, Ardyn!”

But looking at the line to meet him I knew I would miss the opportunity, so as he returned to finish off the signings that were waiting for him I asked if I could grab a selfie, and he said yes, as he ran off to his table he said how good my cosplay was too.

I went over to Liam and John to thank them once again for the Tokens they gave me, and how much they meant to me, they both responded with similar things; that it was deserved!

Feeling the lump in my throat from the emotions those compliments caused, I went over and said goodbye to R, knowing I’d likely not see him again face to face until February for the Birmingham KupoCon, I managed to keep it together until I got back to my mum, I started crying shortly after!

Please! If anyone has read this far who is a Final Fantasy fan I couldn’t recommend Kupo more! It was amazing! I’ve never felt so welcomed and included at a convention before and everyone I met was lovely and supportive

Next stop for me is Birmingham in February, until then… “Walk Tall, My Friends”

Ok everyone time for the big question:

Meeting and chatting with Gregg Berger, the voice of Jecht, was a dream come true and made the whole agonizing flight(s) worth it!

@lastaim and I talked to him about the flight, we talked about how far we’ve come, esp from being from the states. Gregg was very surprised that we came all the way from NJ and told everyone around him; staff and other actors around him. It was an amazing day~ he’s such a great and engaging guy!

We had him sign our acrylic stand of Jecht and our FFX ps2 disc, next to Yuna’s signature~

While Lastaim was setting up the tickets and everything, I had to try and hold a conversation with Gregg who just sounded naturally like a very tamed Jecht especially his tone. 😂 We talked about the Sanctuary and the animals in there and how Australia was beautiful. He said it’s been over 10+ years since he came here. We took multiple pictures with him. He even did a video/audio recording of dialogue we wrote up for him. That blew our mind how he’s able to still sound EXACTLY like Jecht after 20+ years! When ppl were curious who he was voicing, he introduced Jecht as “Sir Jecht” and joked how his body was modeled after his own 😆 The whole experience made our entire vacation as a whole.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET THIS MOMENT AND WILL TREASURE IT FOR THE REST OF OUT LIVES.

We still haven’t recovered from it and keep looking back at the pics and videos and audio from that moment

rrrrrRRRRAAAAAAHH [bites something and violently whips my head from side to side like a hunting dog] I love... Yunnie.... so much...

FFX is one of my favorite games of all time, definitely my favorite true "final fantasy" (though 9 is close behind), and much of that lasting affection is owed to its characters—nearly all of whom I think are excellent, but chief among them will always be Yuna. She's just so... [makes an incomprehensible gripping/crushing gesture with my hands] y'know?

It should come as no surprise to anyone that I'd love the self-sacrificial chosen-one type, the young and tender-hearted heroine with an unimaginable burden on her shoulders, who can't help but try and find love and grace in her heart for nearly everyone she meets—and Yuna is so much more than that, too.

She is soft-spoken and kind, but she's also silly; she likes to poke fun at her friends, laughs easily at jokes, and isn't above acting like the young woman she is. She is a psychopomp, ushering lost souls to the farplane through ritual dance, as beautiful as it is heavy with emotion, with melancholy. Her station demands grace, a certain level of propriety, but she also says stuff like "I don't like your plan. It sucks." and I???? RRRRRRRRRRRRR. I love her. I love her so much. There is an undeniable tragedy to her story, from start to finish and even beyond the end of one story into another; but she does not let it define her, nor stop her from finding joy, love, and levity wherever she can.

She does not simply command her aeons, she forges bonds with them. Greets them, speaks to them; she is connected to all her summons, channeling their emotions and acknowledging their stories, their motivations. Her connection with Valefor, especially, had a lasting impact on the development of one of my OC's relationship to their spiritual partner/patron/deity.

I'd love to explore those relationships even more deeply, as well as her connections to other characters which we only get to glimpse bits-and-pieces of throughout the story. She's just so delightful, like a soft beam of light peeking through on a cloudy day. And I just want to see her get up to low-stakes hijinks and little adventures, without the fate of the world on her shoulders.
