fun thing I'm enjoying this go round of replaying ffx is like. the fact that braska's pilgrimage was considered a joke at the time, but he's known in the present as this great iconic figure. and in fact you only really learn he wasn't well liked from one of the optional jecht spheres. braska and auron are famous and beloved and remembered as heroes! no one seems to remember that braska's wife was al bhed--it's at least not common knowledge enough that it's news to wakka. no one remembers auron being in disgrace for refusing to marry some important guy's daughter either! (i had also forgotten this and was really knocked over by it. really really forgot that auron is just gay like absolutely for real.) it's just like, yeah, of course that's true—a summoner is more useful to maintaining yevon's power when they're dead, and then anything inconvenient about them can be erased.
#sitting with my head in my hands like damn. and seymour is a foil for tidus and also very much for yuna huh. fucked up dead parents brigade#fucked up when a game has 'themes' that are 'good'#still thinking about how braska's decision to go on a pilgrimage when he was the single parent of a 7 year old was like#a horrible horrible thing to do to your kid.#it's interesting because the narrative is pretty aware that seymour's mom becoming the final aeon was a horrible thing to do to him#and he had another living parent! but she basically says it's my fault he became a jrpg villain! oops!#and I'm not sure it's as knowingly down on braska.#also getting really really in my feelings about tidus/yuna this go around#but christ. when she says oh this is what it (love) feels like....it's wonderful but it hurts....

Just gonna ramble on abt my thoughts on ffx it’ll be incoherent as usual
I really wish I didn’t play the game sporadically bc I don’t remember a lot of the lore which actually seems pretty interesting. Like I could not tell you what a fayth or aeon is… which is kinda bad I have the memory of a goldfish clearly.
The characters are def a strong point here. I do like the cast although some do become less important story-wise but I feel like that’s pretty common. Rikku’s definitely my favorite character I just love how bubbly and caring she is. I think her introduction to the group was kinda stilted (Tidus just being like I found a stray!) but she carved a place for herself so well that I can overlook that lol. Auron was also a great character, and honestly kinda flipped my expectations bc I thought he would be the most traditional one out of the group bc he had that anything’s fine just continue your pilgrimage attitude, but then you find out that he’s the one that was the most opposed to the final summoning on his journey. Is auron and jecht doomed yaoi? I think he just confirmed that I like mentor characters cuz I think he’s like the 4th or 5th one I liked so far. Tidus and yuna are so precious. I just like to think about how yuna started her journey knowing and accepting that she was going to die, then tidus found out that no he’s going to “die.”
Ik this came out before Xenoblade but the story just reminds me so much of it. The obvious one being tidus’s “alive” state and shulk’s, but the storyline reminded me so much of xc3. Eternal cycle that only creates more death, culture around sending people off, the protagonist’s group basically being the beacon of hope, and the final boss being a concept lol. And the whole machina war and being against the machina??? Bro??? Xc1??? The people of bionis basically hating and fearing machina/mechonis??? Oh and the yu yevon fight was on a giant sword… mechonis sword… hehe
That being said I’m not sure if I want to replay the game. You can tell the game is dated and no I’m not talking abt the graphics I literally play Nintendo games idgaf abt graphics. The UI is unintuitive, personally I didn’t find most of the music to be that great, the battles are kinda slow (this might be a skill issue lol), and the constant random encounters are a pain. You might be like how do you hate wild encounters when I play pokemon but you only encounter them in specific areas and also repels are available pretty early on. I really should have explored and backtracked more because clearly I missed many items which I did think hinder me a bit (I’m sorry kimahri). I’m not really a huge fan of the sphere grid either. I didn’t get any of the celestial weapons and didn’t get anima bc I missed the besaid sphere. And I didn’t know you could backtrack before the ship so uh yeah I got locked out. I also found no jecht spheres lmao.
Although I rlly do like how well they wrote jecht’s relationships bc even without those extra memories, I was still able to understand and feel invested in his relationships with tidus and auron. I think jecht and tidus have an interesting relationship but that’s just bc I like family drama esp ones involving problematic dads. I loved the ending cutscene where tidus sees braska and auron and then high fives jecht.
I think the story will def hit different if I play it again with all this context in mind, but again I’m not sure if I want to at least any time soon 😅
Overall 6.5-7/10
Forgot to add: I hate seymour he had way too much screen time. Thank god we kicked him and the other cockroaches out of power
#stop talking abt xenoblade challenge (you should all play it if you have a switch and like jrpgs)#anyway i think the gameplay wasn’t rlly for me although i usually like turn based games#I do want to try out more ff games tho!#I’m just limited bc I’m a Nintendo gamer 😅#misu does stuff

OKAYYY. I’ve been playing final fantasy x and here are some preliminary thoughts after like a hard won 4ish hours in 🫠
It was a huge leap to start this game just because 1) I don’t play games like this period (rpg fighters) and have even less experience than any other type of game I ever played and 2) there’s truly nothing more intimidating to me than the final fantasy franchise.. like it only won out over me trying out kingdom hearts because I didn’t feel like doing the punch _ button for _ move type fighting in a game just yet lol. BUT WHATEVER! It has been my goal this year anyway to try games out of my comfort zone (80% of games out there lol) so here I am…
I think the world-building is very appealing!! look I have never in my life even tried looking up final fantasy lore or anything I think I just know Sephiroth and the big ducks maybe but regardless I loved the 5 seconds we got in Zanarkand just because a fantasy steampunk-esque world can be charming.. and exploring the 1000yrs later world and it’s differences is also very interesting. I think I spent half of my hours just talking to everybody I saw and looking at the world textures lol it’s nice and peaceful most of the time
I love the cast a lot.. playing as Tidus kind of surprised me because I think I’m not used to fully formed playable main characters like him (was thinking Link or a fire emblem protag rip) but I LOVE HIM!!!! HES SO GOOFY AND CHARMING and I am so endeared by the voiceover narration (ummm his future self??) and where the story is taking him. He and Yuna are so sweet and cute. I actually really love that not ever cutscene was there to move the plot??? Like the one first boat scene where Tidus stole some guys binoculars and was monkeying around on the ship. Or this one 🥺😭💗
SO PRECIOUS!!! It’s how I know something horrible is going to come regarding them 🧎Well for now I’m just in for the ride. The other guardians are definitely a ragtag bunch but I really appreciated how they were fleshed out in this narrative. I like the big wolf beast guy and I will tell you every time I get a chance I try to get Tidus to go talk to him and every time I get ignored 🥲 ONE DAY!!!! And I love theeee goth woman supreme Lulu even her name is so cute. Love her little doll. She saves my ass every single fight I swear. Wakka is also charming in his own way lol he reminds me of a character I just don’t know who.. he and Lulu having their josei romance drama in the backdrop of this story also gets meeeee. Like!?? Look at them wtf…
Ok ok now about the fighting itself: it’s not as bad as I thought. It’s still not something I really have come to look forward to though, and I really really despise the mechanic where you’re walking and get a randomized battle out of nowhere. The Pokémon grass effect whatever you call it…. IM SICK OF IT!!!! LET ME RUN AWAY!!! especially when I’ve had like 3 fights in a row and that stupid breaking glass effect comes and I have to fight again. Oh save me. im not built for this. HOWEVER. Besides that. It’s okay. Figuring out what moves I should be doing isn’t all that difficult even if I do kind of just guess most of the time. I’m lucky I’m using an emulator and saving as much as I can in case I need to reload during a battle. I’ll be okay lol I just want to complain sometimes just cuz. 😖
And finally…. The one thing I did not expect to encounter in this game and genuinely made me want to QUIT this game for good despite everything positive above: BLITZBALL. WHY DO YOU EXIST. WHY. I CANT STAND THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!
This funny scene made me laugh when I first saw it because I literally thought blitzball games would play out like that first cutscene in Zanarkend - AS A CUTSCENE!!! TIDUS YOULL LOSE I HAVE NO SKILL YOULL LOSE TIDUS!!!!!!!
I will admit now I didn’t know wtf I was doing on that boat and totally failed at getting the Jecht shot but how??? Was I supposed to know????? I THOUGHT IT WOULD JUST LEAD TO A FUN MINIGAME how was I to know it was life or death (in blitzball)…. I did Google whether I needed it to win and results varied. But before I get judged I spent about 40 min trying to grasp the entire blitzball tutorial and things still didn’t wrap around until I began playing and EVEN THEN I wanted to cry and rage quit. Something I have never needed to do in all my life!!!!!! Then I thought fine whatever I’ll just let the game do it’s thing and maybe try to give the ball to Tidus as much as possible if that’s my only shot and lord almighty I couldn’t even get one point in. The ai would score so much and I swear I paid attention. Imagine me mid game pausing just to google 10+ year old forum answers on whether I can just do the bare minimum and still win. I don’t even think I needed to win??? But the other team was so mean to us …. LIKE I WANTED TO WIN….. but I’m not capable of it. I knew it when I first started the tutorial too versus the real game I truly am so disinterested in this kind of minigame (the least mini of mini games I’ve ever played ever) that I don’t care. Like I’m just so so frustrated that it’s 3am im writing this post just to vent about how I want to keep playing ffx but not at the cost of this stupid side game that shouldn’t even take me more than 15 min to play!!!!!
I should’ve known from this part in the tutorial that this was bullshit fr. Look I know its not like all of the mechanics were rocket science, if I took 1 day to actually study the game I would BUT WHY WOULD I DO THAT. WHY WOULD I WASTE MY TIME AND DO THAT. I am just so put off at this point from this game simply because of blitzball. Sorry to Tidus and his quest for home and all but it will not come true because I cannot stand playing blitzball. 🤬
Where i am now: I paused at the end kinda when Wakka comes in at the end of the game. I couldn’t score a single point so it was just left at 2-0. I really don’t care anymore I will just lose the game because I’m sick of it. But damn I was really trying okay. Kinda. I hate being petty but we’ll see if I want to even pick it up as a whole game again when I wake tmrw after this experience lol
To be extremely honest I kinda began ffx as a total “wouldn’t it be funny if?” type game for me because I know what I like and dislike in games and this one bordered that for me so I was genuinely curious to see how far I’d last. But this blitzball game is so far into my dislikes that it actually bums me out because the storytelling is so in my lane. I don’t want to quit just yet but I will say now if blitzball gets any worse I’m out. That truly is my last straw lmao. Also it seems like a very long game otherwise and even that is a struggle for me to comprehend. Plus battles are even going to get worse and I can barely slide by during those… idk it is looking grim for the mariel partakes in final fantasy era 😭

One must wonder how there are still so many humans left. Its not very likely that every then years a new summoner comes running, rushing to save the world and even then, not all of them or their Guardians survive till the end, as we know. So if Sin usually kills like half of Spiras population within only a few months, that really gives them only a short while to actually “defeat” him once again before he kills to many people to make the humans race survive on Spira. And even then, when you see how many children were killed here, it wouldn’t be surprising that the population was slowly but surely falling over the years and that they always had to fear extinction...
In any case, Yuna here lost his mother to Sin and her father died “defeating” Sin and here she was watching Families torn apart by Sin yet again. Of course now she is even more dead set on defeating Sin as quickly as possible.
Tifus realizing this was his new reality, must have hurt a lot. No one wants to be stuck in a world were the spiral of death always seems to win. Especially not if that is so far away from the rather carefree place you came from. And the pain is not going to end just yet. Far from it, actually...
Think about it. Anytime Sin attacks and no Summoner is around, most of the people who died become the monsters that you fight. Assuming that most of the summoner are marching towards Zanarkand and that there are likely not much more then 3 around at the same time anyway, its likely that more than half of the people who die in Sins attacks are doomed to become fiens, because no freaking summoner is around. Especially in such rather rural regions. I mean yes, they have temples, so summoners might visit them often, but still... if, which is also likely the case after Donna and Yuna leave Killika, all the available summoners have reached Luca and move on in the direction of Zanarkand, then the people on those smaller island are left to accept their families and friends becoming monsters.
Lulus is not as naive as Wakka and easily understands that Tidus not knowing or understanding anything is not normal, even for someone who comes in contact with Sins so called Toxin. She sees right through the fact that Tidus didn’t just forget, but instead never knew to begin with. However, instead of doubting him, she is actually explaining everything to him anyway.
This is the most beautiful cutscene this game has to offer. Even tho it is rather sad.
I get that this is a world of death and that Sin kills many people on a regular basis but it seems still odd that they had all those coffins and flowers ready so fast. I mean, this dance isn’t likely too long after the actual attack. So lets say it was an hour. After the shock of the attack, they go around, gather the corpses and put them in those caskets they apparently always have ready and then decorate them with the mass amount of flowers that are apparently also always ready and then they put them into the water? And all that within around an hour or so?
(I should do Game-Sins, really. I would be good at it, trust me XD)
Lulu didn’t lie that the end is when Yuna defeats Sin, but she and all the other always kept quiet about the truth behind Yunas true destiny. Even Auron didn’t seem to be able or willing to bring himself to tell the poor boy the truth. I get what Lulu meant when she said it was just too hard to say... but they put Tidus and Yuna both through a lot with keeping quiet - then again, its not like Yuna was able to tell Tidus the truth either.
I believe this is the mother of those 3 kids. I mean, lets face it, she was the only one of them to have a chance to survive to begin with.
And I think anyone who has lost someone they loved before, they know the feeling of waking up in the morning, hoping it was all just a bad dream. A freaking nightmare that is finally over... just to face the truth. And in my experience, that keeps going on for a while. So its quite realistic.
It sounded like it came out of the blue, but it makes sense for Yuna to want the son of the man who was her fathers guardian her guardian also. Plus, I think she knew how lost Jekkt had been back when he came into Spira and that it would likely help Tidus to get accepted and feel like he belongs somewhere. Maybe she also has a little crush on him. I think all in all she herself believes her reasons to be rather selfish, given how she apologizes when he is confused after that question.
Wakka doing this again XD Jokes aside, I think the problem here is, that given Yunas position, she should have the freedom to choose whatever she wants, so requesting to have Tidus nearby is something that her team should grant to her if Tidus agree with it, that is. HOWEVER... this indicates Yuna having feelings for Tidus and this could make the matter of her journey a problem. It could either change her mind - which might save her, but would also cause her to feel guilty, as we see much later - or it could make things harder for her on the long run. So allowing or forbidding it, is not just connected to the question what is Yunas right as summoner, but also comes down to the question what is best for her. I get why Lulu and Wakka are both shocked but also torn by this development.
Ever since I actually do use some time to train (and also now with the ingame-cheats making the grid more accessible then before) this thing is a peace of cake for me and i LOVE beating it just to show Luzzu that we are cooler than him XD
Denial is obviously part of the many tortuous stages of grieving. However, Wakka should be way past that already. Then again, when you lose someone you love, you just want to find a way to feel better about it... if there is just the slightest chance of someone you love being still alive, you will grasp that straw, no matter the fact that it is impossible or doesn’t make any sense at all.
However... Lulu is not having any of this bullshit. She prefers to face the truth. No matter how hard and cold it might be.
The fact that they both refuse to face each other in that moment says a lot about it. In a sense, Lulu doesn’t want to face Wakkas feelings either, although she tries to force him to learn to accept and live with them anyway.

I love how ffx presents you with scenarios that are both genuinely tragic and really fucking hilarious. The aforementioned made up boyfriend thing is so silly but it doesn't feel that way when tidus tells yuna he has to go and he's about to jump off the airship and she runs after him and literally passes right through him and falls to the ground. And everything about tidus and jecht... having to defeat the "sin" that threatens to destroy the world, but also the current incarnation of that entity is your father, who wasn't nice to begin with and then he started drinking... and then he left and your mom got so depressed she died. But he also loved you and just didn't know how to show it, and as tidus comes to realize this he has to reconcile his hatred of his father with the empathy he feels for him upon seeing what he's become. So they're transposing that kind of fraught parent/child dynamic onto a conflict for the fate of the world, and you as the player have all of this information and at the same time tidus is running around yelling in his johnny test voice about how much he hates his dad. And it's funny, even some of the party members joke about it, but then as you defeat sin and he dies as plain old shitty dad jecht, tidus runs over and hugs him and cries as he tells jecht he hates him one last time. Like I cried too it was a lot. There are other elements of the game that contribute to how tonally bizarre I find it to be (not a bad thing!), whether it's the growing pains of the early ps2 graphics or the voice acting (truly not hating it is very fun), but the emotional whiplash looms large in my mind. Did you know people in this world can just choose not to die. You can get killed and say. Actually no thank you!
When your boyfriend dies because he is not real
#FUCK THE SPHERE GRID THOUGH#I will say this is a very tunnel visiony perspective on the game#Because i played most of it last summer but bricked myself right before entering the final dungeon#and only decided to watch the ending of the game on youtube today LOL

I look at my baby FFX verse. I look at the reply @calmsought gave me.
Anyway, I have more ideas for FFX!Lightning.
Claire and Serah grew up in Luca after being orphaned at a young age. Although the port doesn’t have a dedicated temple, much of the people who assisted the girls during this time ( at least until Claire was old enough ) were Yevonites, which helped instil a firm belief in the religion by Serah. I don’t think Claire ever held a particular hatred or distrust for the church, she just... didn’t see the point in praying for a god who seemed to imply the reason their parents died was because they were not ‘pure’ enough, and quickly noticed the dichotomy between acceptable machina and unacceptable machina.
Claire joined the Crusaders as soon as they would take her, mostly working odd jobs around the city. Much like the Guardian Corps, this gave her the ability to provide for her and her sister at the cost of limited time. In this period, Serah met Snow - an up-and-coming Blizball star for the Luca Goers - and began to seriously think about becoming a summoner in order to protect the people of Spira.
I feel like somewhere in this period Claire also changed her name to Lightning. It most likely started as a codename she adopted and became reinforced during her pilgrimage, especially after journeying through the Thunder Plains.
Upon getting wind of her sister’s plan, Lightning came home and the two got into a massive argument. Serah would not budge on her plans, Lightning didn’t want her to achieve said plans, but she also knew Serah would go on without her given that Snow had committed to the plan of dropping the Goers to become a guardian and she was convinced he’d be fucking useless. She agreed to become a guardian only to convince her sister what a reckless and stupid plan it was.
Cue their pilgrimage. I haven’t thought too heavily about the other FFXIII cast as guardians but... hey, if it works? Maybe Sazh lost his son and that’s what made him become a guardian, maybe Fang/Vanille were another prototype dream before Tidus, WHO KNOWS. Whether it’s the whole gang or only part, they do their pilgrimage and get to Zanarkand.
Serah ends up choosing Snow to be her Final Aeon due to the love they held for each other ( I love the idea he promised he’d marry her after she got her Final Aeon and... well ) and the knowledge Lightning would completely reject Yunalesca’s truth were she to propose it to her. This means all Lightning really knew is that Serah and Snow went in together to get her Final Aeon and Serah comes out distressed and alone. I don’t really know if my personal ship for Snow/Light applies in this verse, but it can go one of two ways. Either it’s the man she secretly loves dying for her sister OR the man she finally accepted as worthy enough for her sister dies for her in what she feels is a senseless way ( especially if Sin comes back ). It doesn’t really matter when thinking in broad strokes. Anyway, she nearly goes postal on Yunalesca herself, only to be calmed by Serah who basically says Snow’s sacrifice is for nothing if they die.
This ends up being for naught when, upon trying to find Sin, Serah is fatally struck down. I’d like to say it’s one of those tragic accidents where no one really blames Lightning for being unable to do anything ; it’s the fragility of humanity itself, not the power of the guardian or their summoner. Serah passes away in Light’s arms, firmly instilling the senselessness of the pilgrimage in Lightning. Sin continues on.
Lightning then returns to Luca where she is constantly propositioned by wannabe summoners looking for an experienced guardian and consistently rejected.
I think the only reason she joins Yuna’s party is because Auron specially met her in Luca, as someone in a near similar circumstance, and they vowed to work through Tidus/Yuna to undo the cycle. This is why Lightning says nothing about what the Final Aeon entails, despite knowing one of the guardians would have to die, and why she wouldn’t interject during their offerings in Zanarkand. She waits with Auron for the confrontation with Yunalesca. I don’t know (?) if she would know he was unsent, but I don’t think it matters to her.
I also have two ideas surrounding Snow’s fayth. One: Light buries it somewhere in Zanarkand and gives up the location to Yuna after they defeat Yunalesca. Though he is no Final Aeon, it ensures his loss was for nothing and he can be of some use helping Yuna fight Sin. Two: She’s had it on her person the whole time and basically does the same thing in Zanarkand minus leading them to the fayth. If baby Seymour can carry his mother around as Anima, she can do the same.
#* verses#* ORIGIN OF STORMS ( headcanons )#hi#this got#VERY LONG#but i hope it makes sense#and means i actually have a longer/workable ffx verse#which is about TIME because ffx is my favourite ff hello

Taking advantage of the gap between "I wrote my finals" and "I have to start grading them" to play more Final Fantasy X. [Spoilers through the bit where you get the airship.]
I'm finding the game surprisingly tiring. Not in a bad way, and I'm enjoying the game, but there's so much story and so relatively little downtime that it takes real focus. Doesn't have the same space for idle catching that you get in a Pokemon game, or random sidequests in a Zelda.
The whole thing with Al Bhed and the dictionaries is cute but I mostly find it annoying. I'm not actually going to replay the game with the dictionary uploaded, so I'm just missing out on content.
I have enough dictionaries now that I can figure out the rest of the code, and if I want to stop and translate I can always figure it out. But that's mostly not worth the effort for small talk, and I can't at all keep up during cutscenes.
I'm really feeling the roleplaying/gameplaying tension where the optimal game move is to dick around and explore everything, but the story and the music are telling you that you have to hurry! And I find this annoying because I like to stay immersed in the story but also I want to find all the stuff.
I just got to the Big Reveal scene right before you get the airship, and there are a couple ways it didn't land for me. First, just because of who I am I can never take that sort of emotional outburst seriously; I can't imagine anything that would cause me to scream more than one sentence in a row. So Tidus's reaction just reads as comic to me.
But second, for most of the game I was assuming that obviously Yuna was going to die, so none of this would be surprising. Except I was looking for that, so I was surprised when she told a story about her father and mother after her father beat Sin--I'd been assuming he had died there, but it sure seemed in that story like he'd returned victorious. So now I'm confused.
This is a lot of time to go without your main healer. And presumably she's a bunch of levels behind now. I guess the sphere grid means that second bit isn't a big deal.
Man, I definitely made the wrong sphere-grid choice with Kimahri. But I suspect I have made many the-wrong-choices, and clearly I can fix them all with some grinding if I need to. (Gotta get everyone to master the whole grid, right?)

Auron and LuLu and you know what Wakks for the lols
OH BOY I HOPE YOURE READY FOR SOME MORE BRUTALITY BECAUSE i always thought that ffx characters divide in three very specific categories
i hate them - missed potential - auron and yuna
lucky for us. auron and yuna are the best tier and i still stand by the fact that they should’ve been the main characters of ffx
this man is easily one of the best characters ever written in the saga. i adore his sarcasm, his apparent attempts at distancing himself to the others, his motivations and plots... AND he’s a powerhouse, i can’t help but stan
other than that, i’ll give them that. his introduction (and ffx’ intro in general, with sin destroying zanarkand) REALLY is one of the best in the series. i’m a simple woman. i see a man calmly walking through the apocalypse, i fall in love with him
BONUS POINT: he’s also incredibly on point in kingdom hearts. i love how they worked his “lore” in kh, and in my opinion he works great as hades’ attempt lackey - far more than poor cloud did I generally keep donald and goofy in my party, but... auron is one of the very few exceptions. we stan a legend
CONTINUING UNDER READ MORE bc this post is going to get long gsdf
poor lulu... how i love you, and how underrated and underused you are
she easily falls in the “missed potential” category. her reasons to try again to be a guardian - knowing very well what would happen to her “little sister” if they succeeded - touches my heart, and i think they at least TRIED to build a friendship with tidus, with her and up to macalania... i can see that. they don’t have many interactions, maybe, but the few they have are really strong plot moments. they bond over their love for yuna, and it would’ve been nice to see her conflicted about tidus being around, if really he looked so much like chappu.
i’m not saying i wanted a love triangle, far from it - but i feel like she could’ve had some more lines to actually lament on it
unfortunately, like most of the cast... i don’t feel she grows much. with the plot being mostly focused on yuna and tidus (and lowkey auron), her troubles and her worries get tossed a little too much on the side to fully grow to be the great character she could’ve been.
also i know all those belts are stupid and cringe but i legit got a Belts Phase because of nomura and specifically her and also consider: having her AND auron around activates my bi energy and i want to kiss her
ESPECIALLY so she doesn’t get with Fucking Wakka
LOOK, I GET IT
i get that his character arc is about learning to be Not Racist, and i think that it might be really interesting to have such a negative “comic” relief emphasis on might tho, because lemme tell ya Do I Hate Wakka afnsdmg
i genuinely couldn’t care less for him during the entire game, his jokes were far from being funny, i kept feeling like he was going to shove an entire Yevon Bible(tm) down my throat whenever he spoke and im NOT vibing with that but the SECOND i decided he was not worth my time was right after the al bhed base blew up i get it they were trying to make him understand that, hey! maybe he should stop being a complete asshole to a 15 years old (someone ALMOST a decade younger than him, mind you), but upon seeing her home blowing up and everyone being completely distraught, all he did was joking about it?!
“haha lol look it went off like fireworks ya :))”
rikku should’ve pushed him off the airship and i cant fucking believe lulu procreated with this waste of polygons
(as im being dragged away from the stage) aLSO HIS HAIR SUCKS AND HE’S BAD AT BLITZBALL--

I Do...I Guess (6)
The Farplane
Ao3 | FF.net
I decided to change the way the Farplane worked, only for story purposes. You know, you gotta do what you can for the Drama™.
Also, I’m going to try to keep the lore the same, but it gets kind of confusing towards the end of the first game, so if I mess up or change something, I’m trying to have it make sense in my head.
Also, I don’t want to completely rehash the whole story the same way, except for the little change of Yuna and Tidus being married. But some of the events are going to be pretty similar and chronological. I mean, they have a path they have to go, and I really liked the story in the game. Why ruin a good thing?
The longer time goes on, the more we’ll diverge. I’m hoping this story will reach into X-2’s timeline, but the ending is still fuzzy. I’m not writing this ahead of time, like a smart person would. You’re getting it as it comes! Whoooo!
—
As they reached the gate to the Farplane, Auron took a seat on the edge of the ramp.
“I can’t go in.” He said simply.
Rikku took up the seat next to him and took a deck of cards out of her inventory. “We Al Bhed aren’t super big on the Farplane. We prefer to leave the past in the past.”
“Yeah, I’m sure that’s why you dig up all the Machina.” Wakka muttered, before being elbowed by Lulu. “Ow!”
“Behave.”
The gate to the Farplane looked like a wall of water, mirroring the side they were on.
Tidus hesitated outside, but Wakka and Lulu walked in without another thought.
“Are you coming?” Yuna asked.
“Uh yeah…”
And it felt like submerging underwater, but there was no wetness, just the sensation of moving from one world into the next.
The Farplane was vast and huge, teeming with life, despite being the land of the dead. Flowers covered the ground, and cascading waterfalls filled the sky.
The sun looked like a hole had been punched in the sky and light shone from behind. A rotting, swirling blackness gnawed at the edges, making the almost pristine world have an ominous air to it.
“Whoa.” Said Tidus.
“It’s so pretty,” said Yuna.
“So how does this work?” Tidus asked the more experienced party members.
“It’s pretty easy,” Wakka walked up to a podium at the edge of the platform they stood on. “All you gotta do is touch this sphere, here. Then, all the people in the Farplane that want to see you will appear. Then you get to pick who you want to talk to, and they’ll come forward, and then you can talk to them.”
“Have you done this before?”
“For sure, ah? Quite a few years ago, Chappu and I were talking about an old Besaid legend, the Melonheads. It was a group of people with swollen heads that lived in the caves down by the beach. Chappu never believed they existed, but me and some of the Aurochs were sure it was true. So when Lulu and I came through on our last pilgrimage, I asked the previous leader of Besaid about it.”
“And what did he say?”
“He didn’t know, so he called on his predecessor, and he called on his, so on and so forth, until we got all the way back to the war.”
“And?”
“And it was a bunch of bologna. It was some dumb joke from my grandfather’s era.”
“That’s really cool you got to solve it though!” Yuna chirped. “And you got to talk to the founder of Besaid! That’s amazing.”
“So who’s going first?” Tidus asked, glancing at the podium.
“I’ll go. I’ll show you how it works,” replied Wakka. He confidently strolled up to the podium, but paused with his hand hovering over the sphere.
“What’s wrong?”
“I just…got nervous, all of a sudden. I haven’t seen Chappu since…” he swallowed instead of finishing his sentence, and then pressed his hand on the surface of the softly glowing sphere.
The air filled with hazy figures, slowly solidifying into ghostly people. Details and faces appearing as they were before they died. About fifty in total, and mostly men.
Luzzu, a crusader that Tidus had met on Besaid, and travelled with the team all the way to Mi’ihen, was among them.
“Wow,” Wakka said with a little, sad chuckle. “There’s more here than I was expecting.” Then he spotted Chappu, and beckoned him forward.
“Hey big brodda! It’s been awhile, ya?” Chappu greeted with a big smile. Though he had the proud Besaid accent and boisterous voice, his sound was airy and wispy.
“Yeah. Yeah it has.” Wakka responded, without much enthusiasm.
“What’s with the cold reception?! Bummed because I’m dead?”
Wakka laughed slightly, unable to help it. “Yeah. Yeah man, that’s it exactly.”
“Well knock it off! The Farplane isn’t too bad, ya? I built a place down by the river, surrounded by flowers. We play Blitz all day, and never have to work. And the best part? No Sin! Sure, we don’t eat or sleep, but we don’t need to. So stop moping!”
“I just…miss you. Is all.”
“Yeah, I miss you too, eh? But time is different here. Not sure how long I’ve been dead.”
“About a year now.”
“Wow, a whole year! Feels like just yesterday, but also like I’ve been here for eons. It’s too hard to explain.” He waved a hand in front of his face, changing the topic. “What are you doing in Guadosalam anyway?”
“I’m a guardian again. This time, for good. Gave up the game. It was time to get serious, you know?”
“Who this time?”
“It’s Yuna, she’s finally ready.” He gestured behind him so that Chappu could see.
Yuna waved.
“Little Yuna is already on her Pilgrimage? Well, good luck! And I’ll save you a good spot!” He laughed.
No one joined.
“Hey Wakka,” Chappu grew serious. “You takin’ good care of my girl?”
“He bullies me,” Lulu answered.
“I do not! If anything, you’re the bully!”
“You need to be bullied. You’re too immature.”
Chappu laughed again. “I guess I got my answer.”
“If anything, I’m taking care of him.” Lulu added. “But he makes sure I’m staying safe.”
“Good, glad to hear it. I’d haunt Wakka if he wasn’t taking care of you.”
Lulu closed her eyes, and downcast her face, hiding her expression.
“I see Kimahri, and who’s this dude?” Chappu gestured to Tidus.
“Your long lost twin, ya? Gotta rub some tomato in his hair, but he could be you. I gave him your sword. I think he likes it.”
“Good! I certainly don’t need it here. Better he use it to keep Yuna safe.”
“You got it, Chappu!” Tidus gave him a thumbs up.
“I wish I could talk longer, but your time is precious. Just promise me one thing, Wakka.”
“What’s that?”
“Let me go.”
Wakka swallowed and shook his head. “I don’t know if I can do that yet, you know? For the longest time, I hoped…” he swallowed again, finding his throat too dry. “In my head, I knew you’d be here. They told me they found your body. But my heart kept hoping that they were wrong. But here you are.”
“So take this as closure. I’m fine. Great actually. I have plenty of regrets,” he glanced at Lulu, “but there’s no one in the Farplane who doesn’t have their regrets. I’ll learn to live with them. Or…die with them, as the case may be. But you still have time, and hanging onto me is going to drag you down.”
“Gee, when did you get so smart?”
“You learn a few things when you arrive here. Things that seemed important when you were alive suddenly aren’t anymore, and you get a look at a bigger picture. But I’m spoiling it for you.” He shot his arm out, giving Wakka a brotherly punch that he’d never feel. “Take care, brodda. Get Yuna to Zanarkand, and maybe coach the Aurochs again if you get back, ah? We got to win once.”
Wakka laughed. “We did win! This guy,” he pointed at Tidus. “He allegedly played for the Zanarkand Abes! He took us to the finals!”
“You for real? He’s from Zanarkand? We played them on this side not too long ago. Great team! They got some moves I’ve never seen before. Kicked our butts, they did!”
Wakka laughed, a real genuine laugh since they had arrived in Guadosalam. It was heartbreaking.
“Well, you better get off the line, before we talk about Blitz for three hours.”
“Yeah.” He sighed, and his shoulders relaxed. “I’ll see you around, ya? Next time, I might be on the other side with you.”
“You better be an old man.”
“No guarantees. You save me a good spot too though, okay?”
“Already did. It’s blocked out and everything.”
“Thanks. Well…bye Chappu.”
“See you, Wakka.”
And he removed his hand from the sphere. For a while, he stood there, staring at the place Chappu had been. Then he quickly wiped his face and turned to the group. “See? Easy as pie! Who’s next?”
Yuna avoided eye contact and twiddled her thumbs.
“Lu? You wanna go?”
“I have no one I want to talk to.” Then she considered a moment. “But, there is someone I want to see. Just to make sure they made it to the Farplane.” She approached the podium, and touched the sphere.
About the same amount of people appeared for Lulu as for Wakka, with lots of the same faces, including Chappu.
After a glance over the crowd, she frowned. “A shame.”
“You don’t see them?”
“No. But, they could just not want to see me. I wouldn’t blame them either.” She removed her hand and stepped back, leaving the podium open for Yuna.
“I guess it’s my turn, then.”
With the determination he saw her garner when she summoned, Yuna approached the sphere, and placed her hand on it. Tidus was quick to take his place beside her, for emotional support.
Many more people appeared. Maybe 200. Maybe more. It was hard to tell.
“Famous even in the Farplane,” Tidus joked.
“Hm. Many of these people knew my father, and probably would like to speak to me because of him. Or perhaps I met them once and made that big of an impact. It’s hard to know. But, honestly, I don’t recognize them all.”
But there, in the middle, stood her parents, arm in arm, reunited in death.
She beckoned them forward.
Immediately, Lord Braska’s face melted in adoration. “Is that my Yuna? My little girl?” His voice, like Chappu, had a wispy quality to it. The sound of someone speaking without vocal chords.
“Hello mother, father.” She greeted with a tearful smile.
“My my child, how you have grown. How old are you now?”
“17.”
“Ten years it’s been then? What are you doing in Guadosalam?”
“I’m on my own Pilgrimage to Zanarkand.”
Instead of beaming with pride, like Tidus expected he would, Braska frowned. “You became a Summoner? That’s…a fate I had hoped to spare you from.”
“You’re so young,” said her mother.
“I know. But, when you defeated Sin, you brought so much joy to Spira. I want to do so too. And it’s not your fault, but I think everyone expects the same of me.”
“I was afraid of that.” Braska lamented.
“I want you to meet my guardians!” Yuna interjected, before the man could blame himself further. She beckoned Kimahri closer. “This is Kimahri Ronso. Sir Auron met him on his way back from your Pilgrimage and asked him to find me. He brought me to Besaid and stayed with me ever since.”
“Glad to know Auron kept his promise to look after you.” Braska smiled.
“In Besaid, I met Lulu and Wakka. They’ve been like family to me. They practically raised me. And Sir Auron, we met up with in Luca. He’s outside, with Rikku!”
“Rikku?” Asked her mother, “your cousin?”
“Yep!”
This little tidbit of information did not escape Wakka. “Your who-what now?”
Yuna hunched her shoulders. “Um…Rikku is my cousin?”
“But…that would mean…you’re Al Bhed?”
Yuna’s mother spoke up. “Half. A summoner married to an Al Bhed is given no favors, even if he’s widowed. So, it’s not well known.”
“Summoner Braska married one…” Wakka shook his head in disbelief. “What a way to learn this information…”
“You’re not going to bail, are you?” Asked Lulu.
“No. Guardian through and through. Just…I need some time to process.” He held his head and muttered something that sounded like, “and I said all those things.”
“And who’s this strapping gentleman standing next to you?” Yuna’s mother asked. “I think you missed a guardian?”
“Oh! Of course. This is Tidus, Sir Jecht’s son…and my husband.”
THAT brought joy from the couple.
“You got married!” Her mother cheered. “That’s wonderful!”
“To the crybaby?” Asked Braska, with a smug smile.
Tidus rolled his eyes. “I’m not a crybaby.”
“There will be some hard times ahead of you, and having someone like a spouse to support you will help. It's a luxury I wish I could have had.”
“Actually…” She clenched her hands to her chest. “There’s something I need your advice on. One Summoner to another.”
“Whatever you need, My Love.”
Just that little nickname brought joy to the part of her heart that had desperately missed her father. “Did you ever know Maester Seymour Guado?”
He thought for a moment. “Lord Jyscal’s son? I don’t think I ever met him. He’s half human, half Guado, right? He’s a Maester now, hmm? Good for him.”
“Yes, he umm…he proposed to me.”
Braska laughed. “And you obviously told him you were married, correct?”
“Well, yes. But Tidus and I have only been married a few days. Well, Maester Seymour believes it would be best if we got our marriage annulled, and Maester Seymour and I wed instead.”
“He said that!?” Yuna’s mother gawked.
Braska, too, looked disturbed at the idea. “Why would he ask such a thing?”
“He said that…well, as a Summoner, it’s my job to bring joy to Spira. And a wedding between a Maester and Summoner would be a joyous occasion.”
“Sure,” said Braska. “Until they find out that you broke off your marriage of love for a marriage for politics.”
“That’s what Auron said!” Tidus interjected.
“And that didn’t convince you?”
Yuna blushed, embarrassed. “I know…I just…he’s a Maester, and he only has Spira and Summoner’s best interests at heart. He wouldn’t have asked if there wasn’t some good that would come out of it.” As she said it, she wondered if she really believed that. It was what she was trying to convince herself was really happening, instead of the gut feeling that hit everytime Seymour appeared. “Would he?”
Braska shook his head. “My sweet daughter, by bringing the Calm, I had hoped that I had paved a way for you to do what you want. I’m so proud that you’ve become a summoner. But Spira’s happiness doesn’t need to rest solely on your shoulders. There’s no reason you and Tidus couldn’t have a more formal and public ceremony to bring joy.”
Yuna looked over to Tidus, not having considered that at all.
“Yuna. As hypocritical as this may sound, promise me, you won’t let anyone tell you want to do in your marriage. You and Tidus are a team now. A team not even a Maester can break up. And that’s coming from High Summoner Braska.”
Yuna actually wept a few tears in relief. “Thank you, father. I needed to hear that. I was so concerned about Yevon and my duties to the Temples, that I forgot my duties as a wife.” She turned to Tidus. “I’m going to tell Seymour no.”
Tidus deflated like a balloon, relaxed and relieved. “Thank Yevon, right?”
“And you, Sir Tidus,” Braska said sternly.
Tidus straightened up.
“As her guardian, don’t be afraid to tell people to back off. It’s your duty. Your father was particularly talented in it. Although, best not use the same language and hand gestures he used.”
“I understand.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “You’d get it. Yevon isn’t a thing in Zanarkand. Knowing what’s appropriate and would reflect poorly on Yuna…that’s something I’m trying to figure out.”
“Whatever you do, once Yuna defeats Sin, it all gets overlooked, or remembered fondly. So just do what you have to.”
“Yes sir!”
“Glad to hear it. Now, Yuna…there’s something you should know about Zanarkand.”
“What is it, father?”
Braska hesitated. “Did Auron tell you anything?”
“Um…not anything outside of my expectations.”
“Hmm. And you’re set on this Summoner path?”
“That's all I want.”
He seemed to think better of whatever he was going to say, and instead said, “well, I suppose you’ll find out when the time comes. In the end, it won’t matter.”
“In the end?” Asked Tidus.
Braska gave him a little look. “At the end of the Pilgrimage. It won’t matter. All she needs to do is defeat Sin.”
“Oh, sure. Right.”
Braska reached a hand out, touching the side of Yuna’s face, sending tingles over her cheek. “One last thing, my wonderful daughter. There’s no shame in abandoning the Pilgrimage. I almost turned back, and most Summoners do as well. I love you, and I will continue to do so no matter what you choose.”
“Thank you, father. It’s a blessing to know I have your support no matter what happens.”
“And Tidus’ support,” he reminded. “And he’s tangible.”
Tidus rested a hand on her shoulder, squeezing affectionately.
Wiping a tear from her eye, Yuna gave a curt nod.
“Good luck, My dearest daughter.”
“We’ll be waiting,” her mother added.
And Yuna removed her hand from the podium. She sighed, closing her eyes.
“Feel a little better?” Tidus asked.
“Yes. I had hoped talking to my father would give me clarity. And it did.”
“Uh…Yuna?” Wakka spoke up.
They were both prepared for Wakka to start interrogating her about her heritage, since that had to be on the forefront of his mind. Instead, he was pointing at the place Braska had been.
Yuna looked up, and saw a Guado man. “Lord Jyscal?”
Unlike Chappu and Braska, Jyscal looked…unwell. Dead and ghostly, of course, but he looked more gray, more tormented. He crooked a finger towards her, and beckoned her closer.
Yuna leaned in, nervous that a figment could appear without anyone touching the podium.
He whispered something in her ear. Something that puzzled her.
But before anyone could ask questions, he was gone.
“What did he say?” Asked Tidus.
“I…I’m not sure. I couldn’t understand him.” She lied. More than anything, she wanted to deflect from the news she had received. “Tidus, would you like to try?” She gestured to the sphere.
He considered it. “It couldn’t hurt right? Maybe I’ll tell my mom that I got hitched. She won’t believe me.” He laughed as rested his hand on the sphere.
Hundreds. Thousands of people appeared.
A city’s worth.
“Whoa…” said Wakka.
“Ah. Yeah…that’s what happens when you and your dad are famous, I guess. All my fans want to see me.” He frowned as he looked around, tears gathering in his eyes.
Children, young people in the prime of their lives, and his teammates. Friends he had eaten with just a month ago. They were all here, waiting for him.
“I…I changed my mind.” He removed his hand. “I don’t want to talk to anyone.” The ghosts disappeared, like a bad dream.
Wakka was staring at him, jaw dropped.
“What?”
“You’re for real? You’re really from Zanarkand?”
Tidus chuckled. “Oh so now you believe me?”
“Kind of hard to ignore the evidence! I don’t even know that many people!”
“I’m waiting for an apology.”
Wakka sighed. “Fine. I’m sorry for doubting you and calling you delusional.”
“Ahem.”
“I’m sorry, Sir Tidus.”
He smiled. “Hey, water under the bridge! Now, let’s go tell Seymour the good news and get the heck out of Guadosalam!”
Lulu spoke up. “Unfortunately, there’s a really bad storm in the Thunder Plains. We’ll have to stay the night here.”
“When is it not storming in the Thunder Plains?”
“Fine. Get struck. See if I care.”
Yuna led the party out of the Farplane, back to where Rikku and Auron were waiting.
“So?” Asked Rikku. “How did it go?”
“I’ve decided to tell Seymour no. Tidus and I are staying married.”
“Good!” She cheered, then tacked on, “Seymour’s kind of an asshole anyway.”
“He’s still a Maester. So you shouldn’t call him that.” Reprimanded Lulu. “At least, not in front of others.”
Wakka sheepishly approached Rikku and gave her a light rap on the shoulder with his knuckles. “Hey kiddo, I’m sorry about what I said earlier. We might disagree about things, but there was no reason for me to yell at you, ya?”
“Aww, it’s okay Wakka. It’s hard to fight against your whole worldview, right?”
Auron smirked at the exchange. “Let me guess. You found out about Yuna's heritage?”
Wakka might as well be as transparent as those on the Farplane. “Yeah well. Even if Yuna wasn’t half Al Bhed…it was still crappy to yell at a kid.”
Rikku grinned. “I’ll take it!”
The group then returned to Seymour’s mansion. Only to find the man in question missing.
“Lord Seymour has moved on to his temple in Macalania, as he stated you needed time to consider his offer,” said Tromell.
“He didn’t wait for the storm to pass?” Asked Lulu.
“Lord Seymour is not bothered by such things. But he assumed the storm and your late arrival would keep you here, and he has had two rooms prepared for you.”
Tidus and Yuna shared a look. Only two rooms?
“Whoo! Slumber party!” Rikku chirped.
Auron patted Tidus’ back and spoke softly. “I can see the anxiety on your face, plain as day. Lulu and Rikku will be with her. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“Getting separation anxiety two days into marriage, eh?” Wakka chided. “It’s kinda cute.”
“Lay off. I’m just…pissed with Seymour, is all.” He muttered, only partly lying.
“If you are all set, I will show you to your rooms. If you will follow me.”
Tidus and Yuna fell into step with one another, as was a common occurrence as of late.
“Yuna?”
“I know,” she said with a sad little smile. “We should talk about it. But…I’m kind of tired. Can it wait until we have the privacy of our own room?”
That was such a gracious request, he couldn’t help but honor it. “Of course. Later. But, we’re good, right?”
“Only if you’re okay. I wouldn’t blame you if you were still mad at me.”
“It’s kind of hard to stay mad at you. It…kind of hurt, but I understand.”
She reached over and took his hand, squeezing it. “I never want to hurt you again.” This came out with so much sorrow in her voice.
He leaned in and kissed her cheek.

I’m sorry in advance. This is a long rant. I think the main reason I can't accept this "SOLDIER!Cloud loves A” thing is because I've always felt that the whole love triangle nonsense was introduced solely to make the players invested in A. Let's face it, the biggest reason people were devastated when she died is because they were invested in her potential romance with Cloud. It was the easiest and cheapest way to make sure the devs achieved their goal. (1/5)
But in their desperation to reach that goal at any cost, the devs ended up damaging other things along the way. Having Tifa in the background until A was out of the picture was such a dumb move. It’s obvious they didn’t want any other character to outshine her. Creating this illusion of Cloud loving A served no purpose in the story. And Aerith herself didn’t bond with anyone save for Cloud. These among many other things. To me, all that wavering thing was so unnecessary to the narrative. (2/5)
Things felt rushed, and A was put on a pedestal and shoved in the players’ faces along with the potential romance with her. It was clear to me that the devs just wanted people to like her so that they’d be devastated when she died. But I guess you can’t ask for too much of games/stories back in 1997. I’m sorry, but I just can’t accept people saying that SOLDIER!Cloud loved A. They hadn’t known each other that long, and 95% of the time, they had other things on their plate than romance. (3/5)
It’s not like they were dating or getting to know each other during the brief time they spent together. Also, I don’t mean to offend anyone, but saying the LTD is now ending because A is stepping out and pushing Cloud onto Tifa sounds so insulting. Like Tifa can’t win unless her competition steps out and hands her the man on a silver platter. This time around, I feel that the devs are trying to do things properly. A is finally taking the time to bond with other characters, especially Tifa. (4/5)
Her world doesn’t revolve around Cloud only anymore. Tifa is not in the background anymore, so now people can get to know her and get attached to her even early on. The romance with Tifa isn’t something that feels like it’s come out of the left field about 2/3 of the way in. There might’ve been hints but they were too subtle. Among many other improvements. Whatever the devs do, I just hope they give us the best version possible of the story this time around. Thanks for listening to my rant.(5/5)
Death to the LTD 1
Death to the LTD 2 (dialogue evolution)
Death to the LTD 3 (soldier Cloud’s acceptance)
Cloud’s hyper vigilance
That would be because the concept absolutely was introduced to make the players more invested in Aerith, so her death had a harder hit when it happened. It was a new thing back in 97 to have a love triangle and pretty much everybody was starting to do it. There’s tons of movies, tv series and books out during that time that showcase the trope.
And having 2 heroines, Aerith and Tifa, and having the hero waver between them, at the time that was something new. ~Kitase, FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania pg. 11
I think everyone forgets the difference in technology between FF6 and FF7, not just graphically, but narratively, too. Back then, everything was new and everyone was still trying to find their feet and figure out evolving technology. I mean, it’s still evolving now, but those building blocks that form the base are still the same. Just because there’s now millions of polygons involved doesn’t take away the fact they’re still polygons.
FF7 was Square’s first foray into using more sophisticated methods of game development and that impacted how the story came across. In previous games, the optional content or hidden story arcs that had to be found to be appreciated made the game more fun. The player had to wander around more and talk to everyone to get the full picture and since it worked before, they thought it’d work again. That people would replay and swap party members around to trigger the other scenes and gather the rest of the puzzle pieces for the fuller picture.
But, they forgot they were trying to make everyone love one specific character, which meant the best way to do that was to keep her in the party over everyone else. Which meant people cared less about the others until the point she leaves the party for good. And by that point, when these people replay they just want to spend even more time with her, so they still miss the other dialogues and scenes with other characters that build their storyline alongside this other character they’ve pressed everyone to care about.
And that’s how the LTD got started because they chose not to play the game fully and only focus on one character, they didn’t see the entire picture. And the guides out at the time didn’t help much on that side of things because they didn’t give narrative canon party suggestions so that players got the most out of the story in each location.
Soldier Cloud loved Aerith?
Really? When they’ve been saying for years that soldier Cloud didn’t even exist or that we said he was really Zack and that’s why he’s into Aerith? It’s funny how the moment the devs confirm that real Cloud emerged to embrace Tifa they decided they could claim the dominant persona for their own, even though they also said that it was soldier Cloud who complimented Tifa, despite real Cloud not being the dominant persona. We even see visible evidence of the two aspects at war with each other in the honeybee inn scene before Cloud dances. That eye movement back and forth and expression of “fine, for Tifa” is an internal argument with the two aspects that soldier Cloud isn’t aware enough of to realise that’s what it is. If we take Soldier Cloud as the only personality then there’s no way he’d do that because it’s not cool, and soldier Cloud is always cool. He’s being made to dance because of real Cloud’s desire to rescue Tifa.
Aerith steps out...
Yeah, I wouldn’t phrase it like that, but the overall sentiment is that Aerith is refusing to do what happened in OG.
More importantly, though, and the thing I focused on in my death to the LTD, is Cloud’s behaviour and reaction and feelings. Because he’s soldier Cloud. Real Cloud isn’t part of the LTD because he already chose Tifa. Soldier Cloud is the focus of the LTD because he’s the one who misinterpreted real Cloud’s feelings and focused them on the wrong girl. This time, we see clear evidence throughout all of his interactions that he is also choosing Tifa.
In the train tunnel, while it’s real Cloud’s motivation to protect Tifa, Soldier Cloud is the one who carries out the roll. Then, it’s Soldier Cloud who kisses her cheek, the same as it’s Soldier Cloud who calls her beautiful. Because he’s the one flirting. Real Cloud’s desire is the motivator for him to do it, but it’s Soldier Cloud doing the thing. Same with every single flirty interaction. Real Cloud’s emergence is only confirmed by the devs twice in the game and both times relate to Tifa. Real Cloud’s hand twitches with the urge to comfort her and then real Cloud hugs her.
Everything else is only motivated by his love and desire for her, which means everything else is Soldier Cloud acting on those feelings.
The single moment of wavering from him is literally within the LTD nod scene in the train graveyard when Aerith grabs his arm. He doesn’t react when she does it, stays silent, leans away. He’s not showing her a preference. Then, he looks at and agrees with Tifa, which is showing a clear bias towards her.
Then right before Tifa grabs Cloud’s arm, his eyes start to shift towards Aerith. This is the reference to OG Cloud wavering, but then before he can even look at Aerith, he spots Tifa’s hands in his peripheral vision, gasps, then looks at and smiles at her.
That’s the result of Cloud’s wavering. He chose Tifa. After that, there’s zero LTD scenes and in fact, there’s a humorous shot of Tifa looking towards the camera after Cloud leaps on her to save her from the falling train carriage and Aerith thanks him for saving both of them. He didn’t save both of them. Didn’t even try.
I don’t think there’s gonna be anything to worry about going forward because one thing Nojima learned from letting things be “open for interpretation” is that his work gets butchered.
Since FF7, other FF titles he’s worked on -
FF8: Squall and Rinoa kiss.
FF10: Yuna and Tidus kiss.
FFCC: Aerith and Zack hug
FF13: Snow and Serah kiss and get engaged.
FF15 (when it was originally vs): Noctis and Luna kiss.
If anyone learned their lesson from this LTD mess, it’s Nojima, but he’s been restricted when it comes to 7 by the suits - which is one of the hidden graffiti meta messages in the train tunnel that refers to why Cloti was never made more explicit.
“They tell you to go with the flow so they can keep the status quo.”
Since this is the last of the FF7 compilation the suits have relaxed the reins on the LTD, so that Nojima can write the story as he sees fit, which I would guess is down to the fact they did sales projections and figured out that FF7 would be massively successful and has in fact also boosted sales of PS4 consoles because people specifically bought the console to play FF7R. With the new mysteries and twists to keep fans talking about the game until the next installment is out, they don’t need to hold onto this outdated LTD concept that everyone hates and isn’t anything the company wants to associate with because of how toxic and nasty it is. They’re a Japanese company having to hear these so called fans talking about how Tifa is a “typical Asian girl” or whatever tf they call her. It’s disgusting. Square yeeted the guys behind Genesis because of the controversy around them, so to have fans like this associated with one of their most popular and iconic titles? Yeah, that ain’t happening.

What are your favorite KH headcanons? Just in general, nothing specific :)
It’s funny... I can think of headcanons when I’m writing or whatever--or just at the spur of the moment--but when asked for them, they all disappear from my mind. Uhh... let’s see what I can come up with.
Because Kairi has had a different hairstyle that every year that we see her, I headcanon that she changes her hair every year.
I also headcanon her birthday is September 17th (the day KH1 was released in the U.S. This is also SoKai Day), since Sora’s birthday is the day of the Japanese release and because it makes Kairi a Virgo. She somewhat reminds me of a Virgo. And apparently an Virgos and Aries (which Sora is) can be good together, so...
I imagine that Riku is rich, just because he has a balcony in the KH manga. So is Kairi, for being the adopted daughter of the mayor in my mind (I get into that just below). Sora, however, is probably middle class. For this reason, hangouts with the three usually happen at Kairi or Riku’s house. But sometimes Sora’s still... And these three totally snuck into each other’s houses after dark--through bedroom windows--all the time, and no one can tell me any differently.
And, like most of the fandom does, I headcanon that Destiny Islands’ mayor is Kairi’s adopted father... even though that’s never exactly said. It’s said that the girl who arrived during the meteor shower was at the mayor’s house, but that could have just been for the time and she eventually got relocated somewhere else. But nah. I also headcanon that the mayor adopted her.
I like my headcanon of Xion liking doilies for some reason.
And my one about Roxas being able to cook, too.
For some reason, I adore the idea that Riku can’t cook to save his life.
I also don’t think that Sora is dumb, and I’ll fight people on this. And at this point, I’m kind of stealing another’s headcanon... but I like the idea that Donald and Goofy teach Sora school things he’s missing on their travels together.
I can also get into the headcanon that Sora’s dad passed when he was young (sadly). Since we hear him mentioned in BbS, but don’t hear him calling Sora to dinner alongside Sora’s mother in KH1 or anything like that.
I definitely headcanon that there are a few islands on Destiny Islands--since it’s Destiny Islands plural--but that they’re probably small, so that the kids still feel “trapped there”.
I imagine that Sora and Riku’s parents put up some of the Play Island stuff absent in Dark Road.
Until proven otherwise, because of the character files, I’m headcanoning that Roxas, Lea, Xion, Isa, and Naminé are all living together now (with Lea and Isa acting as their parents). Probably in the Old Mansion that they fixed up. But on the flip-side of that, I think that Sora and Kairi’s parents accepted their kids’ Nobodies and Replicas as their own, and they sometimes stay there.
I also want to pretend that Isa made a bigger effort to make things up to Roxas and Xion.
I actually don’t think Naminé would jump on the drawing train as most fans seem to think she would. Rather... since drawing is actually tied to traumatic memories for her, I think she’d want to get as far away from it as she could at first. And it would take her friends showing her that she could make good memories with it too, that would finally make her an artist.
Terra and Aqua came from other worlds than the Land of Departure (and how I wish we’d get information on that!). Right now--even though it’ll never happen in a million years, since this series isn’t even Disney--I’m writing that Aqua is originally from “Antar” from the Roswell series, but that’s more fanfiction territory. More likely than not, I want to believe that Terra and Aqua are from worlds that fit their names.
Strelitzia is bisexual. I don’t care that Player canonically is a guy at this point, thus probably making her het. Shh.
Speaking of bisexuality... I think that Sora is. I could maybe even headcanon Riku as that now.
Naminé would totally wear baby blue, if Nomura ever lets her get another outfit.
Xion probably eventually picks up some artsy thing that she can do too, to better fit in with Kairi, Naminé, and Aqua. In the novels, she wanted to make a lucky charm but didn’t know how to. So I can see it.
I don’t think this is a headcanon, so much as it is canon that we haven’t seen yet (since Nomura has slightly talked about this in interviews, even if he’s never going to do anything with it now). Rinoa exists in the KH universe. And it’s because something happened to her during the fall of Radiant Garden--that Leon really is beating himself up about--that he changed his name. And it’ll only seeing her alive and well again, that will get him to change his name back. And he eventually will (or maybe even has in my headcanon). And, yes: the letter he got in the KHII credits was totally from her, telling him that she was alright. Rinoa is also why he has wings on the back of his jacket.
Yuna, Rikku, and Paine aren’t actually tiny fairies, but Maleficent turned them into that... And this is so I can ship KH Tidus and Yuna, yeah. But I swear if you listen to one of Rikku’s lines, it sounds like she might be implying this.
While I think originally, it was Aerith that Cloud was trying to save in KH1 (...for some reason. Since she’s fine in the KH verse), fans have now convinced me that it was actually Zack, so I hope we eventually get the FFVII characters in KH’s story eventually resolved.
Some people argue that all of Traverse Town with the TWEWY characters was a dream--or maybe it’s that they argue Joshua saving his friends through Sora and Riku’s help was the dream--but in my book, it totally happened.
Naminé is an honorary member of the Destiny Trio and Sea Salt Trio.
Kairi and Naminé see each other as sisters, and Sora, Roxas, and Ventus (and Vanitas, if he ever comes back and is redeemed) see each other as brothers. But Sora and Roxas miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight slightly see themselves as more closely linked brothers, and same thing with Ventus and Vanitas.
I also see Xion as a third sister for Kairi and Naminé. Most of the fandom disagrees with this. And I understand why. Most of the fandom sees her as Sora’s sister (and maybe even then sistered to the other boys. And sometimes I now do this--sort of because of peer pressure--but I’ll also have her be a shared sister between the boys and Kairi and Naminé, even though Sora and Kairi themselves aren’t “related”. But I hate that when I do this, it ruins my RokuShi dreams. So it’s probably part of the reason that I usually don’t). But I still see Xion as closer to Kairi than Sora. I know she was supposed to be a Sora clone (but it didn’t really work and she was a failed clone of him), but she mostly defined by his memories of Kairi. And that’s who she chooses to be and how she sees herself. But people then argue that it’s Sora’s memories of Kairi, though, not Kairi herself. And I get that.... But I still think she’s closer to Kairi. Why? Because Sora was actively trying to make her Kairi. And I’m sure some of himself slipped into there, as parts of a writer--so to speak--shows up in all their work, whether they intended it or not. But for example... let’s say that Sora hates chocolate and Kairi loves it. Since he was trying to make Xion like Kairi, he would therefore have her like chocolate, even though he hated it. So that’s one more point for Xion moreso being like Kairi in my book. I also... when I first played Days, she reminded me a lot of Kairi, partly because of some of her snarky lines. It’s only recently that I’ve looked at Days and seen some Sora in her--and realized that also could have partly come from him--but I still stand by what I said.
And while we’re on the subject... after everyone got their own hearts and bodies at the end of KHIII, I don’t think pairings like RokuShi or RokuNami, or whatever else would be insert of self-cest at all. Really, I don’t ever think it was. Because KH rules state that it’s your heart and how you see yourself that governs everything around you... but especially not after KHIII resolved this. So it kind of ticks me off when people still bring up this argument.
Because this plot hole bothers me... Kairi totally remembered Merlin when she trained with him in KHIII.
Most the rest of these will probably be about Kairi. Since you all know she’s my girl, and I think about her a lot.
I pretend that Kairi did somewhat have an edgy stage, and still somewhat is. Maybe because I somehow combine that with tomboy in my head. IDK. Speaking of--though not that this is really “edgy”--I’ve written that Kairi likes Queen at least twice. Just pretend that Destiny Islands has Queen. Haha.
I also believe that even after Kairi became more girly in KHII, she still has some tomboy to her: like how even though she wears a dress in KHII, she still has sneakers on, and how her school bag isn’t decorated at all when Selphie’s is. She’s also a fighter, of course (not that that necessarily makes a girl a tomboy -looks at Buffy-). I imagine out of the three, Naminé is the girliest, Kairi is a mix of tomboy and girly-girl, and Xion is a tomboy.
I think Kairi, Naminé, and Xion would all have great relationships with each other. Naminé and Xion, because they both know what it’s like to be “Nobodies” , told they shouldn’t exist, and forgotten (Kairi knows this, too), and have suffered (though Kairi has too, of course). They’re also both slightly shier. Kairi and Xion because they both can be snarky (though Xion not as much), are more outgoing and both fight, and are maybe pretty evenly matched right now (they’d probably spar a lot). And Kairi and Naminé, because they’re like the extroverted and introverted version of each other. And I imagine Kairi could convince Kairi to try things more, while Naminé would get her to chill the F out about things.
Kairi and Xion are probably both protective of Naminé, since she’s been so abused and they can fight and she can’t.
Sora, Roxas, and Ventus might be protective of Xion. But for me, Roxas is because of shipping reasons.
Back to the girly-girl Kairi thing... While pink probably is for sure her favorite color now, she still likes purple and other colors. And will use them.
I also just... don’t see her wearing makeup. I know other fans do, and that’s fine. But I don’t. Mainly because it doesn't look like she ever is in the game. I think that’s part of her tomboy coming through still. She cares about her hair, her clothes, perfume and whatever else, but she doesn’t care about makeup.
I used to headcanon that Aqua and Xion would become best friends--and they still could--but Melody of Memory maybe hinted at something else.
...I think this is everything right now.
Edit: And pretty much every headcanon that bluerosesburnblue comes up with for the KHUX world is right up my alley.
Edit 2: Destiny Islands maybe isn’t as technologically un-advanced as I and some had originally thought, but it’s still not modern day Shibuya or anything like that.
Edit 3: A lot of Destiny Islands’ culture is based on Japan.
Edit 4: This isn’t a “headcanon” at all. But I love to joke with the fandom, that Naminé and Xion might as well be Sora and Kairi’s daughters. LOL
Edit 5: And because of that one scene in KHII, where Kairi, arguably, hits Riku in the arm, if you look close enough--and that one translation of the KHII manga, where Kairi tells Riku not to be such sourpuss--I headcanon that these two somewhat play off just how much they mean to each other. But really, they love each other of course. I mean that platonically.
Edit 6: And I want to believe Minnie and Daisy could eventually go on an adventure with Kairi or something. I like the headcanon that Daisy’s a magician, too--since Minnie is strong with light magic--even though it’s not true. Haha.
Edit 7: Sora says Kairi’s name over and over again at the end of KHI and tells her “I love you” at the end of KHIII.
Edit 8: Riku is Sora’s best man at Sora and Kairi’s wedding. He’s also the “uncle” and godfather of their kids.
Edit 9: Speaking of, Sora and Kairi have a daughter named “Sakura”. But it’s pronounced like how you would say “Sum” (but drop the “M”, of course) and then “Cora”. “Sumcora” (but without the “M”).
Edit 10: Kairi’s a Disney princess.
Edit 11: Max Goof exists in the KH universe, as do the Three Caballeros, who Donald is friends with.
Edit 12: Terra and Naminé are friends.
Edit 13: This is completely unoriginal--and just “Riku” backwards--but in fics, I often call Riku Replica “Ukir” (I pronounce it “You-Kai-Err”, because I’m too lazy to come up with anything else and don’t want to steal other people’s ideas. And Repliku probably did want to be the opposite of Riku, so... -shrugs-
#Kairi was also probably a popular girl and maybe a cheerleader. I also bet aqua was acheerleader#and aqua is a tomboy too of course with some girly qualities. probably more than lionand less than kairi#I don't think any of the kh girls wear makeup usually. maaaaaaaaaaaybe Namine. but I'm not even sure about her#and I headcanon that a lot of the novel stuff is true. like terra whittling wood. and him liking nuts. and aqua loving to bake#and this is more a ship than a headcanon... but I weirdly kind of ot3 Xehanort Eraqus and vor now

Final Fantasy X Review
Year: 2001
Original Platform: PlayStation 2
Also available on: PS3 and PS4 (HD Remaster)
Version I Played: PlayStation 2
Synopsis:
Tidus is a renown blitzball player in the city of Zanarkand. One day, his mysterious buddy Auron whisks him away to the land of Spira after a massive entity known as Sin attacks Zanarkand. Tidus ventures into Spira, a strange world lacking in advanced technology. There, he finds many uncomfortable truths after joining a pilgrimage with the summoner Yuna.
Gameplay:
I will preface this by saying that this was my very first Final Fantasy game way back when I was like 13. I wasn’t keen on handling RPGs yet so it took me ages to finish. The result was me falling in love with everything about it. Final Fantasy X is the last main Final Fantasy game to feature turn-based combat. One of the coolest features of the battle system in this game is being able to switch characters in the middle of a battle. I missed that afterwards. When I played more Final Fantasy games after this, I kept thinking instinctively that you could switch characters in the middle of battle.
Leveling up is conventional but also introduces a Sphere Grid. You gain Ability Points to progress through a grid where each sphere unlocks a special ability or a higher stat. You can pick different paths along the grids and, typically, by the end of the game you are crossing over other character's grids.
The only truly annoying aspect of playing the game was the sphere puzzles in the temples. Every so often you have to enter a temple and solve a puzzle by placing spheres in the right places. It was so mind-numbing and the irritating music really didn't help either.
Because of how the story is told, the game is much more linear than its predecessors. The bulk of the game is spent journeying on foot across Spira. But don’t worry – there are plenty of secrets and extras to unfold – PLENTY. You eventually get an airship, but instead of flying around a world map you simply pick a destination on a map and you’re there. It sounds lame but the world is already so massive and detailed that Square probably couldn’t fit the graphics of flying around a world map.
Graphics:
The cinematics blew everyone away – because for the first time we have VOICE ACTING! JUST LIKE WATCHING A MOVIE! The voice acting worked really well in this game. It was only ever awkward when Tidus was being, uh, really annoying.
Exhibit A:
youtube
The in-game cutscenes can also be a bit stiff.
Story:
Final Fantasy X was my very first Final Fantasy game – as such, I could be biased in how I feel about it. Or maybe not. I’ve grown to be enough of a dick to crush my own dreams.
The story is completely different than the rest of the series. Completely different. While the rest of the series likes to make references to Western mythology and atmosphere (medieval and industrial settings), Final Fantasy X actually has an East Asian setting. There are no knights in armor or empires fighting rebels or even technological powers like Shinra. There are no witches or wizards. The story and references are quite esoteric, more mysterious and conceptual.
The narrative is radically different from the entire series. For the first and only time (so far), the main character narrates the unfolding events to the audience. After getting sucked out of his homeworld of Zanarkand, Tidus gets caught up in a pilgrimage to defeat Sin. Sin is a massive creature that returns every so often to punish the world for its dependence on technology. (So Sin is basically a kaiju.) A summoner with his or her friends go on a quest to defeat Sin, and the Calm returns for some time until Sin returns.
Spira is probably my favorite Final Fantasy world. It’s beautiful and haunting at the same, sad and bright. You can tell that there was once a great cataclysm but the long years have overridden the past. The rules of the world are so unique. Monsters are explained as the ghosts of people who have not passed on. A summoner this time not only summons great beings (called aeons) but also “sends” the dead away so they can find the Farplane, essentially Heaven. Like I said before, the concepts of Spira are very esoteric and East Asian. While Final Fantasy X does derive influences from Christian concepts (i.e. pilgrimage, priests, doctrines), it just as much references many Japanese and Buddhist concepts (rebirth, wandering souls, sacred temples). Overall, Final Fantasy X’s story is the most religious and spiritual in the entire series.
It’s relatively rare for a JRPG to take on an entire fictional world with a visual design referencing Asian settings. Usually, Final Fantasy and other JRPGs are more obsessed with Western settings (i.e. medieval towns). Spira is ripe with influences from island nations and places like Thailand and Bali.
The major plot twist require you to wrap your head around a bit, but surprisingly nothing is truly complicated. For the most part, you follow the story through the pilgrimage, learn some backstory stuff, and then face the end.
There are several “main” villains. For argument’s sake, and for the sake of not ruining any spoilers, let’s go with Seymour. Seymour is a recurring villain who again ups the ante on the bishonen trend. He’s also the biggest pain in the ass out of any Final Fantasy game. Ask anyone who has played this game and they will get Vietnam flashbacks of fighting Seymour. The bastard keeps popping up every so often to hinder the party’s progress. Seymour may look strange, but don’t let that fool you. He is also seriously one of the most fucked up villains in the entire series.
Tidus is unique in that he is an outsider viewing the story. He tags along and has his own story arc to deal with. Tidus’s story is one of the most personal and relatable. It’s so unique to play as a character who is not a conventional fantasy hero like a thief or a mage or a knight, but a sports celebrity with daddy issues. It’s also unique in that Tidus isn’t even the central character – Yuna is. Yuna is the summoner on a pilgrimage to defeat Sin. Even so, Tidus still plays an important role by falling in love with Yuna, influencing her goals on the pilgrimage.
In retrospect, Final Fantasy IX appears to be a prototype to Final Fantasy X. Tidus is a version of Zidane, except, unfortunately, a bit more annoying when he tries to woo Yuna. Zidane and Garnet’s relationship mirrors Tidus and Yuna’s; both involve an upbeat male trying to woo a reserved, quiet female. Tidus is the temptation to Yuna’s repressed Catholic schoolgirl personality, advising her to loosen up. The existential crisis that Tidus faces is also similar to Zidane’s.
All that being said, Final Fantasy X is my personal favorite in the entire series. It has its flaws, and yes, it’s a sappy romance. But I love it. I fucking love it. I LOVE IT ALL. I love the world. I love the plot. I love the music. I love all the characters. Auron is so fucking cool. Just look at how cool this guy is.
And that ending. Oh man. I really don’t want to spoil anything but at the same time. UNGH. This game. It is poetry. Everybody is a real gangsta until they watch what happens at the end.
Final Fantasy X is probably the most unique out of all the Final Fantasy games. Different didn’t pan out well for Final Fantasy VIII. But for Final Fantasy X – different was good, really good.
Music:
Final Fantasy X does a few things radically different from its predecessors. For one, the series’ main theme isn’t featured. That may sound like blasphemy to some. In retrospect, it might have been a good move because frankly I can’t see the main theme being played anywhere in a story like this. The “Prelude” theme is only briefly featured in an opening menu, but this time it’s given a sick beat that makes you want to dance a little jig.
Alas, Nobuo Uematsu begins to detach himself from full reign of the soundtrack. Two other composers, Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano, also co-wrote a bulk of the soundtrack. While Uematsu composed the main themes of the game, Hamauzu and Nakano composed many of the other tracks. While not everything they did was so different from Uematsu, there are a couple tracks, namely “Assault”, which is distinctly unlike something Uematsu would ever compose. I don’t say this in a bad way at all. The score is still golden. But after Final Fantasy X we see Uematsu depart, and Final Fantasy music starts diving fresh into the unknown.
The pop song for this score is “Suteki da ne”. It’s pretty good although I prefer “Eyes on Me” and “Melodies of Life”.
The HD Remaster soundtrack seems to skewer the original sound of the music. I’ve listened to it and was very displeased by what they did to “Assault”, which was one of my favorite pieces. The original soundtrack has more umph, more pomp and circumstance.
Meanwhile, “Otheworld” is a metal song – a first for the series. It plays in the opening when Tidus plays blitzball, and in one of the final battles. “Otherworld” is frequently misattributed to Rammstein, especially back in the days of Limewire. They had nothing to do with it. Uematsu composed “Otherworld”, and Bill Muir, a lead singer from the metal band xtillidiex, sang it.
Uematsu’s fully orchestrated work on the ending scene is masterful. The emotion behind it brings tears to my eye. It wrecks you, man. It pulls those heartstrings and doesn’t let go. It hurts so good to listen to it and remember how the story ends. It is the most emotional track for the most emotional Final Fantasy ending. It is here where you realize that Nobuo Uematsu could really be a movie soundtrack composer. His craft came full circle here.
Notable Theme:
“To Zanarkand” – the main theme of Final Fantasy X. Beautiful, gentle, and solemn.
youtube
Verdict:
Final Fantasy X is my personal favorite. Final Fantasy VI can objectively be called the best, but I have a soft spot for Final Fantasy X. I admire its unique story and its world. It can be campy and corny at times but I love it overall. Objectively, it’s still of a higher caliber in the series.
Direct Sequel?
Yes. Final Fantasy X-2, or also known as Final Fantasy X-2: For Fangirls Who Couldn’t Handle the Ending to X.
I kid. That was harsh.
But I mean. . .
They gave this Charlie’s Angels vibe with Yuna, Rikku and this new girl Payne.
And like I guess it’s cool but like the tone is soooo campy.
And then they sing and it’s like J-Pop and . . .
Yeah.
This was the sequel.
This was the first Final Fantasy sequel ever made.
And it was. Uh. It was something.
At the time, I could only play about a quarter of the way through before feeling wrong about it. Many critics would agree that it robs the dignity of the original game. I do want to actually try playing it again. I might come into it with a new mind. But. Still. I prefer they leave the original ending untouched.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Quotes Kingdom Hearts Edition (Xion)
I’m at the limits of my creativity here. I just don’t know what to have the characters say anymore. Partly because some of these Dissidia characters I don’t know anything about and don’t know what to say about them. If any of you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Thank you.
To Other Characters:
Warrior of Light: “I was never really into the knight in shining armor thing.”
Garland: “If you wish to fight, I’ll let you have it.”
Firion: “You think I could see your dream, too?”
The Emperor: “You don’t deserve that throne!”
Onion Knight: “I should try changing Classes, too.”
Cloud of Darkness: “Do you actually fight like that?”
Cecil Harvey: “Which of us know more about balance?”
Kain Highwind: “I don’t want you to upset about anything.”
Golbez: “I know what it’s like to lose hope.”

Tifa Lockhart: “Don’t give up on him.”
Sephiroth: “Is that long blade even legal?”
Squall Leonhart: “Being alone is no good. I should know.”
Rinoa Heartilly: “I wonder if I should get a pair of wings, too.”
Ultimecia: “I think time has no effect on the likes of me.”
Laguna Loire: “You should visit the beach. You might find something for your article.”
Zindane Tribal: “I feel that tail’s not for show.”
Kuja: “I won’t let your song of sorrow make me more unhappy.”
Tidus: “What is it about dreams and me?”
Yuna: “Just don’t Send me while you’re at it.”
Jetch: “Can you give me some Blitz Ball lessons if I win?”
Shantotto: “I need a refresher on my magic.”
Prishe: “How do I become as strong as you?”
Vaan: “I want fly freely with my friends.”
Garbranth: “I’ll win this trail no matter what!”
Vayne Carudas Solidor: “Your high and mighty attitude won’t help you.”
Lightning: “Your rose petals will dance with my blade.”
Snow Villiers: “I wonder if me and Roxas can also…”
Y’shtola Rhul: “We can practice our magic together.”
Zenos yae Galvus: “How regal.”
Noctis Lucis Caelum: “It must be nice to travel around.”
Noctis Lucis Caelum: (alternate line) “Your notebook gives me an idea. I wonder if Roxas…”
Arydn Izunia: “I won’t let you continue to hurt others!”
Ramza Beoulve: “Worthiness isn’t everything.”
Ace: “If you could go back, would you?”
Sora: “I hope Kairi’s feelings won’t be too much of a problem.”

Terra: “The Darkness has nothing on either of us!”
Aqua: “Won’t we be evenly matched?”
Ventus: “Let’s get some ice- Sorry, I forgot.”
Young Xehanort: “Don’t even start. Really, don’t.”
Shinryu: “You won’t hurt anyone again!”
To Xion:
Warrior of Light: “No matter what, I sense your heart is true.”
Garland: “Can a puppet like you really defeat me?”
Firion: “I see a real spark in your eyes.”
The Emperor: “Puppets should remain stringed up.”
Onion Knight: “Real or fake, this battle is starting.”

Locke Cole: “Don’t shoulder it all yourself.”
Cloud Strife: “Just don’t drop on me, okay?”
Tifa Lockhart: “You have someone like that, too? I can relate.”
Sephiroth: “What would happen if I cut your strings?”
Squall Leonhart: “You better not break on me.”
Rinoa Heartilly: “Ready for what may happen?”
Ultimecia: “Your Light maybe true, but you are still a doll.”
Laguna Loire: “You like ice-cream? You and Ellone should talk.”
Zindane Tribal: “I bet you and I can perform something great.”
Kuja: “Shall we dance the song of your heart?”
Tidus: “Did the Fayth dream you, too?”
Yuna: “You have such a strong heart. You should try being a Summoner as well.”
Jetch: “Don’t go crazy on me now.”
Shantotto: “You are no mere doll. Give me your all.”
Prishe: “Some beach time would do some good.”
Vaan: “A land where you fly with pixie dust? I’d like to see that.”
Gabranth: “All puppets are destined to be chopped up!”
Vayne Carudas Solidor: “Is there any truth to this?”
Lightning: “You should fight with your own moves.”
Snow Villiers: “Alright, we should get this done.”
Y’shtola Rhul: “I can’t wait to see how this will go.”
Zenos yae Galvus: “I will not be so gentle with you.”
Noctis Lucis Caelum: “I think you made it clear you’re real.”
Ardyn Izunia: “A mere puppet should remember her place.”
Ramza Beoulve: “Shall we see who is stronger here?”
Ace: “You’re lucky. You have your friends here to help.”
Sora: “Xion… Just who are you, really?”
Kairi: “The clash between our hearts begins!”
Riku: “Here we go again.”
Roxas: “Please don’t disappear again.”
Lea: “Don’t forget: I’ll always be there to bring you back.”
Terra: “Show me just how real this can be.”
Aqua: “I’ll train you as best as I can.”
Ventus: “Why do you always confuse me for that guy?”
Young Xehanort: “Say what you will. You will always be just a doll.”
About Summons:
Ifrit: “Time to put out this fire!”
Shiva: “How elegant.”
Ramuh: “Hope my Keyblade doesn’t act like a lightning rod.”
Odin: “Will I get to keep the horse after this?”
Leviathan: “A little water never hurt anybody or nobody.”
Alexander: “You’re just a judge! Not jury and executioner!”
Bahamut: “You don’t scare me! I’ve seen worse!”
Summoning:
Ifrit: “Flames of Destruction!”
Shiva: “Blanket them in your power!”
Ramuh: “Feel the surge!”
Odin: “Slice them and dice them!”
Leviathan: “The tide shall strike!”
Alexander: “Shine your radiant power!”
Bahamut: “This force is on my side!”
BTW, I just realized that Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia should have a Kingdom Hearts event. I don’t know what may happen. Will Sora be able to see his friends again? Or will it happen if during the events of Kingdom Hearts III? Also, do you think I should do Dissidia quotes for Isa, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy?

Personally, I believe that Yuna does have PTSD after events of FFX. Maybe I will rewrite her info to include this along with in the rules. This is not me projecting my own PTSD.
Do I think that it’s the type to be violent? Very rarely since Yuna, in my opinion, is more of a flee than fight type of person when it comes to these things.
also not proof-read, edited or fixed because I am tired. and should eat.
It’s safe to say as much as I love beating the shit out of Seymour and using him as a fucking punching bag, I still love his character. I think him existing makes a really good thing for Yuna, despite that kicking ass in mental health afterwards in FFX.
And I believe she has a bit of fear of Shuyin. It makes sense. She believed Shuyin was Tidus, a man she had been desperately searching and waiting for his return since end of X. Shuyin of course is a thread to Spira and has a fuckin piano ass ROBOT that could, legit, END THE WORLD. So don’t tell me she wouldn’t. Because I would kick ur ass rn.
In Yuna’s nightmares it’s usually in a few different places.
One of them being the most is in the Farplanes.
Stuck. Unable to flee and join the world of the living. Voices of those that were a threat to her and Spira’s safety calling out to her. She never turns around---- because the person that touches her shoulders or embraces is always different. Usually Shuyin or Seymour.
“ Don’t touch me.” Yuna would try to mumble out, her body in paralyzing fear. Glancing to her touched shoulder she could see Shuyin’s fingerless gloved hand or Seymour’s nails and bare hand.
Seymour could change into many of the forms he took in FFX. The more human he looks, the terrifying he is in her eyes. As long he looked like a monster it was easy to distance her fear from him.
When it is Seymour instead of Shuyin, Yuna is usually in her Summoner’s robes or in that wedding dress.
Because of the wedding, Yuna is afraid of ever being married.
The second type of nightmare Yuna would have is the one she had during FFX2, when accessing Lenne’s memories as if they were her owns by accident.
( WARNING, THE VIDEO DOES CONTAIN GUN, BEING SHOT AT, AND DEATH. do not watch if you can NOT handle those types of images.)
It is always replaying in her nightmares. Sometimes not by guns, however. It could be by Yunalesca using magic or her god damn mudesa head to end them.
Shit, even back to Seymour. It could be him there, perhaps in his wedding garbs and her back in that damn wedding dress, ready to kill them afterwards.
However, no matter what, Yuna always watches Tidus die in front of her and she is slowly losing vision in hopes that he would just wake up. Sometimes the dream doesn’t end there either.
Yuna only see this still image of him laying there.
The third one is Operation Mi’ihen.
Simple as it is. Watching Sin kill everyone that tried to find another way of defeating it without the use of Summoners. All the blood stained surfaces, the ocean turning a murky red with people’s belongings floating away as a makeshift grave as their bodies faded in pyreflyes. The smell, the rotting flesh, everything exists in that nightmare.
Innocent people died and all she could fucking do was dance. Dance filled with sorrow and pain to send them to a better resting grounds.
When awakening from the nightmares, regardless of which one.
When alone, Yuna will curl up in a bad and sob her feelings out. Try to make herself feel better and ground to reality knowing that the stuff she dreamt of no longer exists.
With someone around, she wants to hide from them. Afraid of appearing weak.
With someone she trusts, she might be scared to ask them to hold her. She asks them to stay in the same room as her though so she isn’t alone.
With someone she’s very trusting with, perhaps a deep valued friendship or a romantic spouse, she sobs to them. Holding onto them tightly, afraid of letting go as of right now they are her only net of safety.
And when someone is towering over her and she had a dream about Seymour or Shuyin, she very rarely attacks. Probably shoving them away from her, screaming at them to get away. Screaming to not hurt her.
If Yuna has her pistols around she might point it at them like she had done to Shuyin’s ghost. (shows the gif set of her visually shaking in fear)
I doubt there is medicine and resources of treating PTSD in Spira.
Anyway, this is for now. I might come back to touch on it.

Date With Yuna II
Directly follows this fic. Wendy and Yuna get ice cream and spend some time talking.
"At least I can still taste things." Wendy said, licking at an ice cream cone. Yuna nodded in agreement, eating her own ice cream, legs pulled up to her chest as they sat on the beach side by side, gazing out at the sea. "Are...you alright?"
Yuna looked away. "Of course, we...saved Spira. We defeated Sin." Her enthusiasm was noticeably dampened.
"Well, yeah, but..." Wendy didn't have the heart to push her further, to call out what she imagined was a deep wound in the girl's heart. Tidus.
"I'm fine." Yuna reassured her. "I'm much more worried about you. But it seems like Sir Auron is really trying to take good care of you."
Wendy blushed at that. "Um, yeah, he's...he's...yeah." She licked her ice cream to avoid saying anything else.
Yuna giggled. "Are you two seeing each other, then?" She asked point blank. Wendy's blush deepened, her face going incredibly red.
"I- uh, I mean! It's not- wh-what made you think that?!" Wendy sputtered out, looking extremely frazzled. Yuna had never seen her in such a state. It was fun, she thought, with a guilty smile.
"I've never seen him act so tenderly towards someone." Yuna said simply. "It's so clear he cares for you. It's sweet." Yuna smiled softly, and Wendy eyed the sand shyly.
"Is it? Is it that...obvious?" Wendy asked, smiling, her blush fading to a less drastic pink.
Yuna nodded. "It is. And the same for you. You went to such great lengths for him. That must have meant a lot to him." Yuna closed her eyes for a moment, putting her hand on her chest.
"Yeah." Wendy smiled, pulling her legs up to her chest to rest her chin on her knees.
"But you...aren't together?" Yuna asked, furrowing her brow a bit, looking concerned.
Wendy sighed. "It's complicated. I guess. We just...have never...said it clearly." Wendy mumbled.
"From where I'm standing, both of you made it very clear. With your actions." Yuna replied.
"Well that's easy to say, but...I-I dunno! He's not easy to talk to about stuff like that..." Wendy objected, blushing again. But she was running out of ways to defend her position. Yuna didn't even know how affectionate he was in private, and she found it obvious. Why did Wendy still have doubt, after all of this? It didn't make much sense, did it. After everything from before, and everything from now, their entire storied history together...
"Maybe you don't need to say it outright, to know?" Yuna suggested.
Wendy couldn't help but laugh a bit at that, shaking her head. "No, absolutely not. You know, Yuna, I mean...we knew each other. You know that. At the end of that...we were very close to sharing our feelings. But like you said, uh...we had only actions between us." Wendy sighed. "I spent the next 10 years wondering if things would have been different had I made my feelings clear. I...don't want to assume, anymore..."
"Then why haven't you?" Yuna asked.
"Yuna! It's easier said than done! Especially with Auron!!! He's- he's unreadable!" Wendy laughed as she blushed, looking a bit aghast at being called out. "You know it's not easy to...to do that..."
"I know." Yuna said, smile falling away as she recalled her own feelings. She shook herself of those thoughts before the sadness could overtake her. "But you have to do it, Wendy! For your and Sir Auron's happiness!"
"SHH!!! Quiet down!!! I'll do it, okay?" Wendy waved her hands defensively, trying to get Yuna to speak quieter despite the lack of other people around to hear her. "Just in my own time! When I'm ready."
Yuna nodded, laughing a little. "I'll hold you to it. Also, your ice cream is dripping."
"...AH!"

FFX Playthrough Part 20
Maybe the Real Daddy Issues were the Friends we Made Along the Way
-So after going Osmosis Jones on Seymour’s ass inside Sin now we’re in like some kind of city?
-No wonder Sin’s grumpy all the time. He’s gotta have some serious IBS
-Like do you see this?? A giant steampunk tower??
-That’s gotta cause tummy aches
-The team gets teleported to some weird place with icicles and crystals and a swirling sky
-Discerning players might remember this as the strange place where we saw the spirits of Gatta and all the other dead Crusaders after operation Mi’Ihen
-Speaking of places from earlier in the game, we’re transported to the place where Tidus was swimming around inside Sin right toward the very beginning.
-Daddy’s home!
-Ugh, this conversation with Jecht is so so good
-They’re both simultaneously super understated and bubbling over with emotion and Tidus finally gets to tell Jecht he hates him
-But you can kinda tell that he doesn’t anymore
-Not in the same way, at least
-Really, I feel like him saying it is actually a way of saying that he loves him, strangely
-That he cares enough about him to put him out of his misery
-And when he basically begs Jecht to stop apologizing and just get it over with
-Jecht’s final aeon form is super cool
-The battle itself is a big nothing, though
-Because Lulu can basically kill god with her little dolls
-So, like, yeah
-OOOF right where it hurts
-It was really rude of FFX to make the final boss someone you care about
-Makes it a biiig mixed bag of emotions
-Speaking of which, Yuna has to now summon and kill all her aeons
-Totally not traumatizing at all
-Pretty awesome we battle on Aeon Jecht’s old sword
-Lolololol
-Super creepy how Yu Yevon goes into all of them and possesses them
-It also looks like the act of killing the aeons physically and emotionally damages Yuna, which really raises the stakes of these battles that we can’t actually lose
-Thanks, perma-auto-life
-Dark Shiva obvi looks the coolest
-After killing all of our aeons and before fighting Yu Yevon, Tidus (who continues to prove his dumbness) decides that now’s the time to tell everyone that he’s going to disappear when they kill him
-Way to make everyone doubt what they’re about to do
-Also, Yu Yevon looks like a devil Roomba
-When we kill him, we see all of our besties in Besaid celebrating, and then watch as the fayth go inert
-Back in Sin, Yuna sends Jecht and Auron starts to go too
-OMG that little tap he does on Kimahri’s chest!
-Real recognizes real
-Kimauron 4eva
-Bye Daddy Auron!
-Finally, we get the amazing cinematic where Yuna blows up Sin and sends all of the Aeons
-Paired with an amazing rendition of the Hymn of the Fayth
-As the wall of Fayth on Gagazet turns to stone, Tidus begins fading and Yuna passes right through him when she tries to stop him from going
-Ugh this is the worst, how she finally says it out loud right before he goes
-And his high five with Jecht??
-And then we’re at the end.
-Yuna’s final speech is so completely her: sorrow and hope in equal parts, feeling exactly what her people are feeling
-And her final command:
-It really matches up with what she told Yunalesca
-That sorrow is not something to be forgotten, it’s just another step on your journey to your higher self
-It’s the real pilgrimage. The one that matters
-And at the end of the credits, we get a final teaser that Tidus still exists! Somewhere!
-Such a sleepy boy
-Welp.
-That’s it!
-Sorry for the delays toward the end. It definitely took some effort to churn out this last post.
-But it was super fun to replay this game and record my thoughts and reactions!
-I hope anyone who read this was able to share in my joy!
-Thank you everyone for reading! Idk what I’m going to do next. But if you have another Final Fantasy-type game that you want me to write some playthroughs for, I might just do it!
