FFVIII Yuletide Exchange!

I am very happy to announce a 2024 Yuletide Exchange for FFVIII!

This is the first exchange I'm coordinating, so please bear with me, and if there's something weird feel free to tell me!

Now, onto the main event!

The Rules

Rules are very straightforward, so please make sure to read them before joining:

You'll need to sign up using the form linked below.

During sign-up, you will be asked what you'd like to receive and what you're willing to give.

1 request = 1 gift to give, so please don't sign up multiple times if you're not willing to draw/write multiple gifts.

Your requests will then be paired with a matching creator.

You won't know who's your "Secret Santa" until your gift will be posted.

It is very important to follow the guidelines provided. Make sure to include what was asked for and avoid the "do not want" specified, to ensure a nice experience for everyone.

Of course, no character bashing unless it's explicitly asked for!

The Phases

There are a few phases to ensure everything will run smoothly. These are:

Phase 1, September 8th - September 15th: sign-up phase. Everyone can join! That means you can sign up even if you never took part in FFVIII Character Weeks or never requested a bingo card at @ffviiibingo. You can send multiple forms, but every request means one gift to give, so make sure to be ready for that.

Phase 2, September 16th - September 22nd: matching phase! Every request will be paired with a creator, who will be contacted with the info provided during sign-up.

Phase 3, September 23rd - January 15th: creation phase! You can start working on your gift, and if you need extra motivation, there's always our Discord server, with its brand new Yuletide Exchange channel.

Phase 4, January 16th - January 31st: posting phase! You can finally post your work. Make sure to tag the person you're gifting the work to (or use the gift feature on AO3 if you're publishing fanfiction!).

This is now my second in-depth character study one-shot and friends, it has been immensely fun and gratifying. 

I’ve been looking forward to Selphie Week for a long, long time. On the one hand, I adore our little Explosion Girl. She’s charming, cute, and her penchant for violence is balanced by her silly love for rock bands, parties, and trains. 

On the other hand, though, I feel like Selphie screams out something so much harder to grasp – her lightheartedness often toes the line of toxic positivity, and her fierce independence makes me question her ability to really connect with people.

When I look closely at Selphie, I see a mask that just barely conceals a loneliness that likely roots back to when she was a tiny kid. I loved exploring that in this piece, and I hope you enjoy it, too!

The Rules

Every fanwork will grant points to the team assigned to the users. Points will be distributed following these criteria:

The team will gain 1 point per word for fanfictions. This will be considered the base score. AO3 word count will be used as reference.

Other fanworks such as fanvideos, fanarts, comics, music and so on will grant a fixed base score: 5000.

Using the challenge word will grant an additional point haul, consisting of the base score multiplied by 0,5 for each challenge word used.

A monthly summary of points gained by the teams will be published as soon as the submission form opens, with a breakdown of the points gained by each team.

Here's an example: User publishes a 4529 words story using 1 challenge word. Base score: 4529 Additional point haul: 2264,50 Total points gained: 6793,50

Wait, so what do we win?

Well... nothing! Except for some lovely graphics that @pinnadraws will prepare for the winning team and all the users who can complete their cards.

And some harmless fun, which is a win in and for itself.

Alrighty, folks, hold onto your hats because I'm diving headfirst into the chaotic world of multichapter fanfiction! *cue scattered applause and whoops from the audience* The master plan is drawn, and I'm currently scribing away at the prologue like a caffeinated squirrel on a mission. Get ready for a wild rollercoaster ride through angst and darkness, starring our beloved Seiftis pair. But fear not, for in the midst of all the gloom and doom, I'll sprinkle in some romance like confetti at a clown convention. Because let's face it, these two can't stay sad forever – it's bad for their complexion! P.S.
