More fun MoM facts!
There are many instances of the MoM using tildes in his speech, particularly when he's joking/teasing. I'm disappointed that the localization did nothing to preserve them, since I feel like their frequent use was a hint to his identity. And it's cute.
Whether or not you believe that he has any connection to Jack from Agito XIII - although you should, because he does - it's something they have in common.
From the Final Fantasy Type-0 World Preview book:
The inflection he places on the words at the ends of his sentences with a tilde (~) demonstrates his “nonchalance.” He has incredible mental strength, shown in the way he maintains the same attitude no matter what type of opponent he faces.
They thought this information was important enough to add to the page about the character. It's his thing.
I've translated scenes from KHUX and FF Agito for comparison.
Even more fun facts!
Unless MoM's having a serious moment, he talks like an airheaded teenager, often ending sentences with the addition of し. Demyx does this a lot. It's not an odd thing to do unless it's a habit. There's nothing like this in English, but I guess the closest comparison I can think of would be like when someone has the habit of ending their sentences with the inflection of a question when it isn't necessary. (Like this? You know how it sounds when someone does this?? all the time??)
I found a blog where someone gave their own example:
This word is somewhat informal, and used less (if at all) in polite Japanese (敬語). Also, it doesn’t have a very intellectual image to it. For example, there is a Japanese TV celebrity by the name of Rola (ローラ) who frequently speaks with this expression and draws out the し sound. Although I think it is all an act, her character is very ditzy and seems like she has a two-digit IQ. So when you are using し, make sure to not overly draw out that sound, unless you're a young girl and want to project that sort of image. (:
What I'm saying is, the localization needs to make MoM sound younger and dumber.
Does Jack do this? Sometimes. It would make sense for him to talk like this, but he doesn't do it often. This one is a MoM & Demyx exclusive.

「ゼロ」Zero, performed by BUMP OF CHICKEN, is one of the theme songs of Final Fantasy Type-0 (also known as Final Fantasy Agito XIII).
A friend of mine requested an arrangement of this song, and when I realized that FF Type-0 actually turns ten years old this year, I knew I had to make some kind of tribute. Hopefully I'll have a recording of a real-life performance uploaded soon, but for now, this will have to do. The game's birthday is tomorrow, after all. It's still one of my absolute favorite Final Fantasy games, and it deserves a birthday present.

The Rebuild of Final Fantasy VII: Your Expectations Will (Not) Be Met
I apologize for the stupid title and I promise I’m going to talk about the Final Fantasy VII Remake, but I have to get this out of the way first. Sometime in the mid 2000s, acclaimed artist and director Hideaki Anno announced that he was going to remake his beloved anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion the way it should have been the first time, free from technical and budgetary restraints. Evangelion had a notoriously strange ending when the original anime aired, consisting of character talking over still images, abstract art, and simple animations. It was highly polarizing and controversial. Anno, for his part, received death threats and the headquarters of the studio that produced the anime was vandalized. Soon after the initial uproar Anno would direct The End of Evangelion, a retelling of the final two episodes of the anime, and that seemed to mostly satisfy the fanbase. Looking back now, The End of Evangelion wasn’t “fixing” something that was “broken,” no, it was a premonition: a vision of things to come. Why remake the ending when you can just remake the whole damn thing?
The mid 2000s also saw the birth of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII: a sub-series of projects expanding the universe and world of the video game that had “quite possibly the greatest game ever made” proudly printed on the back of its CD case. The Compilation consisted of three games, all on different platforms, and a film. First was Advent Children, a sequel to Final Fantasy VII, where three dudes that look like discarded Sephiroth concept art all have anime fights with our beloved protagonists, culminating in a ridiculous gravity defying sword fight between Cloud and Sephiroth. Before Crisis and Crisis Core are prequels that expand the story of the Turks and Zack Fair, respectively. Then there’s Dirge of Cerberus, an action shooter staring secret party member and former Turk Vincent. Were these projects good? I’d say they were largely forgettable. Crisis Core stood out as the obvious best of the bunch and I think may be worth revisiting.
As a business model, the practice pioneered by the Compilation would continue on and eventually brings us FFXIII (and sequels), FF Versus XIII (which would later become FFXV), and FF Agito XIII (which would later become FF Type-0). If that’s all incredibly confusing to you, I’m sorry, I promise I will begin talking about the Final Fantasy VII Remake soon. Suffice it to say, both Final Fantasy VII and Neon Genesis Evangelion have a certain gravity. They punch above their weight. They are both regarded as absolute classics, flaws and all. And yet, in both cases, the people responsible for their creation decided that their first at bat wasn’t good enough and it was time to recreate them as they were meant to be all along. I think this way of thinking about art is flawed, limitations are as much a part of the creative process as vision and intent. Yet, we find ourselves in a world with a remake of Final Fantasy VII, so I guess we should talk about it.
From this point forward, there’s going to be major spoilers for every Final Fantasy VII related media. So, be warned.
So, is the Final Fantasy VII Remake any good? To me, that’s the least interesting question, but we can get into it. FFVIIR is audacious, that’s for sure. Where Anno condenses and remixes a 26 episode anime series into four feature length films, the FFVIIR team expands an around 5 hour prologue chapter into a 30+ hour entire game. Naturally, there will be some growing pains. The worst example of this is the sewers. The game forces you to slog through an awful sewer level twice, fighting the same boss each time. This expanded sewer level is based on a part of the original game that was only two screens and was never revisited.
Besides the walk from point A to point B, watch a cutscene, fight a boss, repeat that you’d expect from a JRPG, there’s also three chapters where the player can explore and do sidequests. The sidequests are mostly filler, but a select few do accomplish the goal of fleshing out some of the minor characters. You spend way more time with the Avalanche crew, for example. Out of them, only Jesse has something approaching a complete personality or character arc that matters. The main playable cast is practically unchanged which was a bit surprising to me. I figured Square-Enix would tone down Barret’s characterization as Mr. T with a gun for an arm, but they decided, maybe correctly, that Barret is an immutable part of the Final Fantasy VII experience. Also, it’s practically unforgivable that Red XIII was not playable in the remake considering how much time you spend with him. I don’t understand that decision in the slightest.
The game’s general systems and mechanics, materia, combat, weapon upgrades, etc. are all engaging and fun and not much else really needs to be said about it. I found it to be great blend of action/strategy. Materia really was the peak of JPRG creativity in the original FFVII and its recreation here is just as good. The novelty of seeing weird monsters like the Hell House and the “Swordipede” (called the Corvette in the original) make appearances as full on boss fights with mechanics is just weaponized nostalgia. In general, the remake has far more hits than misses, but those misses, like the sewers and some of the tedious sidequests, are big misses. It is a flawed game, but a good one. If I were to pick a favorite part of the game, I’d have to pick updated Train Graveyard section which takes lore from the original game and creates a mini-storyline out of it.
If that was all, however, then honestly writing about Final Fantasy VII Remake wouldn’t be worth my time or yours. The game’s ambition goes way further than just reimagining Midgar as a living, real city. There’s a joke in the JRPG community about the genre that goes something like this: at the start of the game, you kill rats in the sewer and by the end you’re killing God. Well, when all is said and done, the Final Fantasy VII Remake essentially does just that. Narratively, the entire final act of the game is a gigantic mess, but if you know anything about me then you know I’d much rather a work of fiction blast off into orbit and get a little wild than be safe and boring.
In the original games, the Lifestream is a physical substance that contains spirits and memories of every living being. Hence, when a person dies, they “return to the planet”. It flows beneath the surface of the planet like blood flows in a living person’s veins and can gather to heal “wounds” in the planet. In the original game, the antagonist, Sephiroth, seeks to deeply wound the planet with Meteor and then collect all the “spirit energy” the planet musters to heal the wound. The remake builds on this concept by introducing shadowy, hooded beings called Whispers. The Whispers are a physical manifestation of the concept of destiny and they can be found when someone seeks to change their fate, correcting course to the pre-destined outcome. Whispers appear at multiple points throughout the game’s storyline both impeding and aiding the party. The ending focuses heavily on them and the idea that fate and destiny can be changed. We receive visions throughout the game which some will recognize as major story beats and images from the original game. After dealing with Shinra and rescuing Aerith, the game immediately switches over to this battle against destiny and fate that you’re either going to love or hate. The transition is abrupt and jarring. While Cloud has shown flashes of supernatural physical abilities throughout the game, suddenly he has gone full Advent Children mode and is flying around cleaving 15 ton sections of steel in half with his sword. The party previously took on giant mutated monsters, elite soldiers, and horrific science experiments, but now the gloves are off and they’re squaring up against an impossibly huge manifestation of the Planet’s will. Keep in mind, in the narrative of the original FFVII, the Midgar section was rougly 10%, if that, of the game’s full storyline. This is, frankly, insane, but I’d be lying if I didn’t love it.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake, with its goofy JRPG concluding chapter, is forcing the player to participate in the original game’s un-making. We see premonitions of an orb of materia falling to the ground, we see an older Red XIII gallop across the plains, we see a SOLDIER with black hair and Cloud’s Buster Sword make his final stand, we see Cloud waist deep in water holding something or someone. We all know what these images represent, they’ve been part of imaginations for decades. But the Final Fantasy VII Remake allows us (or forces us, depending on perspective, I guess) to kill fate, kill God, and set aside all we thought we knew about how the game would play out post-Midgar. The most obvious effect of our actions is the reveal that Zack survived his final stand against Shinra and instead of leaving Cloud his sword and legacy, helped him get to Midgar safely. I have my doubts and my worries about the future of this series. I’m not sure when the next part of the game will be released or what form it will come in, but I can’t believe I’m as excited as I am to see it.
Of course, part of me wishes they’d just left well enough alone. Remakes are generally complete wastes of time and effort. Not all, but most. Maybe I’m, to borrow a term from pro wrestling lingo, a complete mark here and I just love JRPGs and Final Fantasy VII so much that I’ll countenance close to anything bearing its name. I’ve tried my best to be as critical and fair as possible to the game and I hope that if you’re on the fence and reading this I’ve maybe helped you decide if it’s for you or not. I think the Final Fantasy VII Remake is worth your time if you’re looking for a good, meaty JRPG. It’s not perfect and it’s final act is insane, but that just makes me love it more.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like for Zack, Cloud, and Aerith to face Sephiroth in the Planet’s core? I know 15 year old me did. And he may get his wish.

FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII FREE
Similarly, the preview for the Wii FF: Crystal Chronicles game included a brief section that looked as though it may have been in-game footage. The preview of FFXIII, for instance, featured just a few seconds of actual gameplay. Although there were concept films for all four titles, gameplay footage was in short supply. Beyond that, Square Enix was stingy with details on the four next-gen games it announced today. As noted above, the DQ game will be a launch title for the Wii, and a brief concept film made it clear that the Wii's motion-sensing controller will be used to swing an in-game sword.Īttendees mingle. Those games were Codename: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Crystal Bearers and the previously mentioned Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. The Square Enix press conference.Square Enix also gave some love to the Wii, announcing two games for Nintendo's new console. Given the company's expressed commitment to "polymorphic content" it's a safe bet that some of those additional projects will be in non-game media like film. Square Enix promises additional projects in the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project beyond the three games announced today. All three titles are part of something that Square Enix has labeled the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project, which it describes as "numerous original titles that run parallel with one another" and share a common mythology. The three FFXIII games currently in development are: FFXIII and FF Versus XIII (both for PS3) and FF Agito XIII for cell phones. Furthermore, US role-playing game fans will be pleased that FFXII finally has a North American release date: October 2006. The company also unveiled two Wii games, including one launch title-Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. The company announced that not one, not two, but three Final Fantasy XIII titles are now under development two for PlayStation 3 and one for cell phones. The venerable concert venue has hosted decades of blockbuster shows, so it was a fitting location for Square Enix to fire its own triple bombshell.

Yup, I like Ace better when he is redesigned into a male version of Aya Brea with cards rather than his original FF Agito XIII design where he looks like a 12-year-old.
Anyway, it’s a little funny that one of his NT intro poses is similar to his first scene in Type-0 :P

What if Type-0 was FFXIII? Would this game change?
I'm a huge fan of Type-0 so I'm going to try my best to give this post a juicy, chunk of fat to chew on.
Character Development
Well if there's one thing that most people agree on about FFXIII, it's that the character development was done quite well albeit with characters that didn't resonate so much with the audience. The magnitude of expectation from a numbered FF game probably had more writers and overseers making sure the characters and story was tight - a far cry from Type-0.
Type-0's character development was handled poorly. The personalities of the class felt like caricatures of anime characters of 'insert series here'. The supporting characters that were focused on like Machina, Kurasame, Cid, Celestia and Arecia received nowhere near enough attention for me as a player to be invested in their motives. Not to mention that this huge cast is on a platform (PSP) that probably wouldn't have been able to fulfil these desires, moreover, the game relies on two playthroughs. Ace was relatively well done; he acted as the sponge to events happening with the class and his backstory at the ranch added more flavour to his arc.
A bigger budget with Toriyama's team rather than Tabata would definitely strengthen the characters, especially their desires, feelings and motives.
Story
That's not to say that FFXIII's story was without flaws. Do you remember the furore surrounding the game after it was released with many not understanding the concepts of a L'Cie / Fal'Cie / Cie'th? Coupled with huge chunks of backstory missing only found through datalog, many players did feel bewildered by events that seemed to take place in the story.
Ho boy, where do we start Type-0? It was an absolute mess. I really don't want to divulge too far into it but I find that the Tempus Finis really needed to be embedded within the story more along with more POV's or an omniscient narration of what Cid & Acrecia were getting up to and the importance of becoming Agito. There was so, SO much missing from the first playthrough that it made the game a convoluted cluster-fuck of half-baked ideas.
As FF fans, we thirst for knowledge within the game so (luckily) being connected with this game I made it my best intention to reap the rewards of a really fascinating story by listening carefully, making mental notes and finding out more information through NPC's and the library. I do not think a bigger budget would help this area of the game, there's a huge chance that the game would still feel rushed and unfinished on a first playthrough, a la FFXV.
Graphics
The cut-scenes were beautiful as expected and the HD remake made the game look wondrous in the Vermillion Peristyrium - on par with FFXIII for sure.
I found the world map area a nice nod to old FF games. I thoroughly enjoyed it so I wouldn't change that at all but obviously the would need to make the textures more appealing and the world more vibrant. Would this be acceptable for a numbered game though, a PS1 World Map? Evidently the towns needed work so you'd expect with a bigger budget that they would be more colourful... but then again, would that commitment to creating wonderfully, designed towns with personality make the world map emptier (FFXV)? I would definitely have loved to of seen sprawling towns evoking the personality of the areas they were situated in. I'd assume there'd be more outposts and less towns so a bigger budget wouldn't change the game that considerably, missions would still take place in abandoned, grainy outposts with a PS2 run-around until areas were cleared of enemies.
Gameplay
With a bigger budget, I doubt Type-0 would take on an ATB system like FFXIII but would develop more towards a FFXV style of play. I guess you would see more combinations for each character and hella lot more special moves. Random battles may have more obstacles and you'd probably see battles having more characters on the screen which would've been so awesome. More bosses, bigger fiends and possibly more tactical battles due to the fact that they'd have more time to personalise enemies. Maybe you'd actually be able to see what the hell was going on with that huge bastard Shinyru in the First Battle of Judecca.
Overall, the main problems that Type 0 had were the characters and story - throwing money at these areas might not necessarily sharpen the game. A bigger budget would definitely enable the game to be embellished graphically but the supposed hindrances that FFXIII and XV had (some I agree with) like poor missions, linear gameplay and empty locals... well it's just as likely that they might embed itself into Type 0's development too.
Love the game though. I will say, if you're going to compare a game with Type-0, it should be FFXV as they contain more similarities than what XIII did.

I think I'm turning into a Tabata fan.
Based from experience, his games are great. Final Fantasy Type 0 and XV are remarkable and memorable in terms of story, characters (designed by Nomura, of course), music, art, and gameplay. They deliver this certain type of punch.
Am I also right in thinking he salvaged both Agito XIII and Versus XIII? Nomura might have been committed to too many projects and was spread too thin to do awesome work on all. Plus, FFXIII getting split into a trilogy was quite a workload.
From what I've been hearing, Crisis Core FFVII, another one of his works, was also a blast. I've been reading up on the development side of his games and I'm happy to see his works have received high ratings from critics and gamers alike. His stance on working on games is also admirable. He said something like working on the FF series this extensively feels like it's shortening his lifespan, but when he sees others enjoying their hard work, it's worth it. Now isn't that inspiring?
I also like that he's very in touch with the game's fans. After bringing such masterpieces to life, I hope he and his team - as well as the others - are treated well by the company. :)
Can't wait to see more work from you, Tabata-san and team!
(P.S.: I know Nomura started the story for FFXV, but as we can now see with the finished product, it’s far from the Fabula Nova Crystallis system - but in a good way. Even FF Type 0 departed from the FNC mythos positively. One thing I really like about Tabata is that he’s very concerned about making sure the stories were easy to understand, even if complicated.
We know they’re still trying to iron it out - Type 0 and FFXV definitely need work on the storytelling - but Tabata’s comments after the games’ release show that he’s really concerned about the stories being understood. Keep it up, Mr. Tabata!)

Final Fantasy Monat
Hauptreihe
Final Fantasy NES oder GBA Final Fantasy II NES oder GBA Final Fantasy III NDS, vielleicht PSP Final Fantasy IV NDS Final Fantasy V Advanced Version auf GBA Final Fantasy VI Advanced Version auf GBA Final Fantasy VII bereits auf der Playstation gespielt Final Fantasy VIII Playstation Final Fantasy IX Playstation Final Fantasy X Remastered Version auf der
Playstation 3 beinhaltet auch X-2 Final Fantasy XI ---fällt weg--- Final Fantasy XII Playstation 2 Final Fantasy XIII Playstation 3 Final Fantasy XIV ---fällt weg--- Final Fantasy XV Playstation 4
Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core ---> PSP
Final Fantasy VII - Dirge of Ceberus ---> Playstation

“CLOUD message″ (2008) translations Final Fantasy Agito XIII
p.57
Agito
This gripping tale follows the actions of a group of young soldiers during a world-encompassing war.
Among the three different Final Fantasy titles born from the singular mythology of the Fabula Nova Crystallis, FF Agito XIII stands out as the first Final Fantasy to be supported on a handheld game console. However, its hidden potential was much greater than imagined, and the footage that was shown at DKΣ3713 and Tokyo Game Show 2008 showed us some shocking developments. What is the "truth" there?
p.58
The Small Giant, Agito
When I saw the video at the DKΣ3713 event with its solemn, documentary-style narration and realistic war-like visuals, I honestly didn't know what game I was looking at. The content was so shocking that it overturned the game's image from the ground up. What had until now seemed like a relatively lighthearted RPG featuring keywords such as "magic academy", "school life", and "Crystal" suddenly did an about face. The video was presented as a "war chronicle" with a profound sense of depth, with words like "border invasion" and "war" being thrown around. So, was this video, which was release at the same time as the announcement of the PSP version of the game, intended to change the direction of FF Agito XIII? The answer is no. To support this, I will quote Nomura's statement.
"FF Agito XIII has a historical timeline which also mentions great wars of the ancient past, and when you take all of that into account, it has quite a considerable volume, so the content and image will change depending on where you place your focus."
In other words, it will be a game with a completely different impression depending on which era and location is being spotlighted in the expansive timeline. The juxtaposition of "kanji cities" and "English cities" in the video seems to symbolize that reality and fantasy do not contradict each other in this world where school life and dark topics coexist without feeling out of place...
If Nomura's comment about "a world so vast that you can't see how far it can expand" is the essence of FF Agito XIII, then what we've seen of FF Agito XIII so far is just the tip of the iceberg.
p. 59
The Meaning of a FF That Everyone Can Play Easily
"This is not one chapter of a story. It is a history written by each person’s hand. It is destiny."
This line comes from the narration in the video. There are no words that could more succinctly express that FF Agito XIII is a game that everyone is meant to play together. In FF Agito XIII, there is no default protagonist nor predetermined story. This part is fundamentally different from FFXIII and FF Versus XIII. The main character is the player themselves, their friends are the other players who they connect with online, and each adventure you have with those friends is the story of FF Agito XIII.
When you think of a Final Fantasy that everyone can play together, FFXI comes to mind. However, because FFXI is a game for PC and home consoles, it can't be easily played everywhere. As the online space rapidly evolves, it could be considered inevitable that FF Agito XIII would choose PSP and mobile phones when looking for the best environment for everyone to play together.
Perhaps the performance of mobile phones will dramatically improve for playing games in the future. In addition to the established ad-hoc battles on the PSP, a service will be launched where players can form impromptu parties with distant players via the PS3. It seems as though everything is going according to plan. If that isn't the case, then I can only assume that something is being brought closer...
With these features, FF Agito XIII will be "a Final Fantasy that can easily be played by everyone," something which has been rarely seen in the series. In addition, this Final Fantasy will be supported by a grand world and setting. The future shown by this synergy... Will be the style of a new Final Fantasy.
p.58-59
What is FF Agito XIII to you?
"This is the first Final Fantasy I'll be working on from scratch. Since I have this opportunity, I'd like to do what I want as much as possible and play a big role in the FFXIII series." Hajime Tabata, Director
"A grand world and setting that can be expanded forever, to the point where its limits cannot be seen." Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer
"A Final Fantasy that aims to go beyond expectations." Takatsugu Nakazawa, Planning Director
"Challenging the limits of the PSP." Yusuke Naora, Art Director
In one word, how would you describe FF Agito XIII?
"A documentary-style war chronicle Final Fantasy that everyone can play together." Hajime Tabata, Director
"Unexpected ambush." Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer
"A Final Fantasy that can be played anytime, anywhere, any way." Takatsugu Nakazawa, Planning Director
"A cutting edge Final Fantasy that everyone can play." Yusuke Naora, Art Director
What makes FF Agito XIII different from other games?
"I think it's the fact that this is where numbered titles will be introduced to handheld consoles. Everyone on the project is eagerly working hard to deliver a serious Final Fantasy to the PSP." Hajime Tabata, Director
"The great potential for the game to change freely in the future." Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer
"There are too many differences to write!" Takatsugu Nakazawa, Planning Director
"I think that the mismatch between tradition and stimuli will create a new taste." Yusuke Naora, Art Director

“CLOUD Vol.1″ (2007) translations Final Fantasy Agito XIII
p.76-77
hidden battle in the magic institute
Unhatched Elite Warriors The Guidance Myth
The mountains are green, the sky is blue. Your heart is rosy as you walk along the path.
Today is your first day as a student at the Akademeia peristylium. As you gaze at the gates of the magic academy shining brilliantly in the distance, your heart swells with thoughts of the events in your future. When you pass through those gates, you will meet new friends and discover new knowledge.
What sort of people are there? I don't want to be friends with anyone unpleasant. I wonder if it's really that hard to use powerful magic?
Such innocent thoughts are mixed in with the harsh questions you ask yourself.
How strong can I become? Can I become Agito?
The answers to all of the thoughts and questions dwelling in your heart exist beyond the gate. Akademeia's gate is also the gateway to infinite possibilities for you. Meeting good friends will nurture your heart, and discovering good knowledge will improve your skills.
No matter how difficult the ordeals ahead of you may be, why should you hesitate at these big gates!
You continue down the path, gazing at the towering school building with many thoughts inside of you, dreaming of the day when you become the legendary warrior known as Agito.
The Akademeia peristylium is the setting of FF Agito. The protagonist is a student who makes an oath with the Crystal which is enshrined within the academy. While living together with other students, they will study various things and receive training to accomplish their goals.
In a sense, school life is a series of discoveries. The protagonist grows as they learn not only what the instructors teach them, but what their friends are good at, the personalities hidden beneath their masks, and the power hidden within themselves.
What are friends? What is nature? What is magic? What is war?
The day will surely come when you will be able to answer the many questions you had in mind when you entered the academy.
On the other hand, your school life will be filled with many mysteries. What exactly is Agito, the legendary warrior? And who has their sights set on the academy's Crystal? Everything will become clear when the protagonist completes their studies at Akademeia and graduates. And then, that's when the protagonist's true fight will begin.
However, you mustn't forget. No matter how painful it is, no matter how hard it is to find your way, you are never alone. When you look back, the friends with whom you shared joys and sorrows will be there, along with the instructors who will guide you toward the right path.
Now is the time to pass through the gates with your head held high! Through Akademeia's gates! The entrance to a new mythical world!
p.78-79
The True Colors of Akademeia to Which Youth is Entrusted
The academy that the protagonist enrolls at is officially known as "Akademeia, the Peristylium of Suzaku", located in a region called Rubrum. The students who enroll are sorted into 13 classes and are subject to strict discipline. They spend their days undergoing intense training. Knowing that the peristylium is a place for elite warriors, it is easy to imagine what sort of training they will receive.
In the process, friends may lose their lives. Some may not be able to endure the harsh training, and some may even run away. There will be scenes that leave you feeling empty, and scenes that will make you want to look away. However, all of these things are a part of life at the peristylium, and the protagonist and their friends must overcome it.
As you may know, "Suzaku" is the name of the Vermilion Bird, one of the four Chinese celestial beasts who rule over the cardinal directions. In that case, it's natural to assume that there are rivaling entities named after the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise. If each academy possesses their own Crystal, a push and pull might occur over them.
What does the aspirational name of "Agito" mean?
After enrolling, the goal of the protagonist is to become the legendary warrior called "Agito." That name, which is also used in the title, comes from a Latin word meaning "to put into motion." What kind of skills they use, what type of weapon they carry, how to become Agito... To new students, Agito is a very vague thing. However, as they spend time with many friends and teachers, it will be revealed little by little and gradually take shape.
As it inches closer to realization, Agito will become the goal and emotional support for not only the main character, but all of the other students as well.
It is said that one must overcome every hardship in order to become Agito. In that case, that movement of the heart would be the first step towards becoming Agito, the one who "puts things in motion." However, even if the protagonist overcomes the intense training, successfully graduates, and becomes Agito, that is not the final goal. Why are we fighting, and what is considered victory? And what will we learn in that battle?
The path that begins with enrollment at Akademeia is long and steep.
p.80-81
FF Mobile Online
Unlike the other two works, "FF Agito XIII" will be delivered straight to your hands through your cellphone. "FF Agito XIII" will be the first to introduce a new system: online party play for multiple users.
Players will start the game by choosing the protagonist from the 12 characters with weapons in the illustration. You can form a party with other people who have the game.
It's easy to imagine the fun and surprises that you will find online as you step into this myth for the new century. The characters who weren't chosen by the player will be involved in the story as NPCs, guiding the protagonist to an unknown world.
The advantage to mobile gaming is the ability to pick up the game and play it anywhere, at any time. In other words, the entrance to "the new story of the Crystals" is located right in your pocket.
EXPECTATION: A XIII Title That Begins in the Palm of Your Hand, FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII
1.
This FFXIII title will be played on mobile phones. Although spin-offs and other works have been ported to mobile, this will be the first official title to be released on mobile. As such, you can expect it to be a fresh Final Fantasy with possibilities previously unseen in the series. It's a Final Fantasy that's easy to enjoy anywhere, anytime. Through the network, it's also infinitely expandable. The appeal of being able to play with your friends as well as people you've never met... The appeal of a worldview with a magnificent scope via the distribution format... The appeal of network games that take advantage of "communication", which still have a high bar for entry, will be made accessible to many people with the use of cellphones, the easiest and most familiar platform.
The specs of mobile phones are also of interest, as they continue to evolve at a rate approaching that of handheld devices like the DS and even the PSP. Based on that evolution, "FF Agito XIII" is being produced with specs that look ahead to the future. This is the latest title in the series, following the Final Fantasy tradition of being on the cutting edge of the industry.
2.
As this title is being designed for the next generation of phones, its depth is still unmeasurable. The most appealing feature of the game is the fact that you can fight with parties that you form with other players, all from your phone. Players will be able to spend their time together as students of Akademeia, based on the magnificent ideas of the Final Fantasy series. That alone is cause for excitement.
The images that have been released show that the surrounding area is in a terrible state of ruin, so it will be interesting to find out how it relates to the story. Although it seems like the game won't be delivered regularly, the volume of the story is expected to be substantial. There will be many sub-events which can be voluntarily participated in and enjoyed for a long time. We're looking forward to the elements which will only be possible with next-gen mobile phones.
3.
People grow with more than lessons and training. During school, which everyone experiences at least once in their lives, the time after school when you've been released from your classes is important. When they're freed from the prison known as "school" and from the jailers known as "teachers", students learn a lot through activities with like-minded friends or through impulsive pranks. Without a doubt, "communication" is one of the most important elements of FF Agito XIII. "After school adventures" with allies you've never met can be fun and exciting, but they can also sometimes produce disappointments that you would have never felt when playing alone. However, there is a real story of player development that goes beyond the game character's development. Isn't that the true beauty of FF Agito XIII?

What’s in the box? An ominous sentient rock.
Cracking the last line of Demyx’s character file solves everything. (I think.)
“In that case, aren’t I more cut out for lugging stuff around? Oh yeah, what is it that person used to say all the time? Something about a guiding key? Come to think of it, wasn’t something guiding me?”
From the FF Wiki...
In the early Final Fantasy games being made a Warrior of Light by a crystal was shown in heroic light, but in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series the equivalent fate of a l'Cie reflects a more sinister state, calling the person's free will into question.
Final Fantasy Agito XIII is part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis like Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which Verum Rex is based on. In the Type-0/Agito series, the people believe that the Crystal will continue to guide them down the right path as long as they follow its divine will, so they tell each other “May the Crystal guide you.”
In KH3, Luxord says that he was told that the box contains “hope.” The Crystals are frequently referred to as “beacons of hope.” The Crystals are the embodiment of light and serve as symbols of hope to humanity.
In the Type-0/Agito series, the Crystals will choose someone with a “strong heart” to become a l’Cie in order to protect them. It communicates with the l’Cie telepathically and no one else can hear its voice, so it’s the l’Cie’s job to do as it instructs and convey the Crystal’s will to others.
The l’Cie stones offer a lot of insight into what it means to be a l’Cie. They’re all really interesting, imo.
A l'Cie Stone acquired in the Cetme District. Last Words: White Tiger l'Cie Theo For twenty years, I served my country as a soldier in the Militesi Army. At the age of 35, however, it dawned to me that I might better serve the empire by protecting our beacon of hope and thus ensuring its light may guide our nation forever more. Now cognizant of the truth about this world, though, I know our Crystal will only truly be safe from harm once all of Orience is united under the emblem of the White Tiger—and I believe I have found the one man who can accomplish such an incredible task. I have fulfilled my role, and the future of our world rests in his hands.
I like this one a lot because the “truth of the world” Theo was referring to is the fact that the war had ended the world before.
In the original concept of Agito XIII, anyone who attended Akademeia would have been able to make a “blood pact” with the Vermilion Bird Crystal to receive blessings such as weapons and powers. This is shown in the first Agito XIIi trailer when Ace enters the Crystal’s room and presses his thumb to a pedestal which lights up the gears around the room. A set of cards then appear on the pedestal for him to take.
A l’Cie’s Focus is called a “role” in Japanese. It’s the same word they use in Back Cover when the MoM assigns roles to all of his apprentices. One would assume that he had a role of his own.
Demyx's current state could be a result of him being away from the Crystal. L’Cie turn into Cie’th when they refuse or fail to follow their roles, so separating himself from the object he was supposed to protect could have had some type of degenerative effect on him. When Celestia went against the Azure Dragon Crystal in order to help Class Zero, she lost her sense of self and turned into a dragon.
Alternatively, he’s still connected to the Crystal. Even l’Cie who obey the Crystal will gradually lose their sense of self. Upon becoming a l’Cie, Machina had to constantly remind himself of his own past.
I mean, there are other explanations for how the MoM went from A to B, but these explanations came in the box, so they’re worth consideration.
The MoM’s clock tower in Daybreak Town was based on a design that comes from Akademeia in Type-0. (It was designed by Yusaku Nakaaki.) Here I’ve overlayed the concept art from the Type-0 design book with a screenshot from KHUX. Akademeia was the home of the Vermilion Bird Crystal. It was built to be its shrine. The Crystal is located underground, below Akademeia.
Demyx is nearly identical to Jack who attends Akademeia. Same face, same personality, same voice actor. Very important piece of info.
I don’t have trouble believing Demyx when he says that he’s on Riku’s side. But his theoretical Crystal overlord might have other thoughts that could later put them in conflict. With all of this in mind, it’s easy for me to understand how the MoM could end up starting a war and sacrificing a town full of children.
The Vermilion Bird Crystal told Caetuna that she should sacrifice the majority of Rubrum’s citizens to summon the Verboten Eidolon. She thought that sounded reasonable.
Khalia: You… You can’t be serious! You want to offer the lives of Dominion civilians?! Caetuna: Should half of the powerless be offered, the summon can be performed. Promptly begin the preparations. Arecia: …The Crystal is most rational, isn’t it? In a manner of speaking, to win the war, it chose the path with the least sacrifices. Arecia: No matter how many people die, it won’t subtract from the number of soldiers and cadets. It’s a strategy to massacre the Milites army while retaining the Rubrum army’s present strength.
This is an example of the relationship between a Crystal and its l’Cie at its most sinister. Caetuna is otherwise depicted as wise, graceful, and kind.
The Azure Dragon Crystal gave the queen of Concordia the power to see the future. (”If she could see the future, why didn’t she just stop the war and save the world herself?” 🤪)
Behold the extremely convenient built-in explanation for how the MoM obtained the Gazing Eye. No Crystal? No power. If the source of his power is in the box, then it just as easily explains why Demyx wouldn’t have the Gazing Eye.
During the Militesi Assault on Akademeia, the Imperial forces deployed two crystal jammers to suppress the Dominion's magic: one aboard a dreadnought, and another built into a Magitek Armor. Severed from their Crystal's blessing, Rubrum's cadets, legionaries, and l'Cie were left all but powerless.
"May your heart be your guiding key” feels like the opposite of “May the Crystal guide you.” If the MoM had no choice but to do what the Crystal instructed, then it may have benefited him to tell others to do what he couldn’t. It’s ironic. The guy who says it the most might not have been able to follow his own heart. :’)
Demyx believes that he joined the Organization because he wanted friends. What the Crystal wants can be totally separate from what a l’Cie wants, but a l’Cie can only do as the Crystal commands. The Darkness refer to themselves as the MoM’s friends, but he doesn’t seem to share their feelings. Unable to freely make friends as he pleased, they may have been the only “friends” he was able to have. I get the feeling that they thought they could use their pseudo-friendship as a bargaining chip to make him stay because they thought it was something he valued. (Oof... Rejected.)
Anyway, I maintain that if you know everything about the Agito series, it’ll probably be possible to arrange all of the information in a way that spells out exactly what’s up with the MoM. So, even if I’m not perfectly correct, I feel safe assuming that I’m at least very close.

“Re: [riplai]” Final Fantasy Agito XIII translations
Now for something completely different. These are excerpts from a book that was released in 2008 to coincide with the Square-Enix DKΣ3713 TGS event which featured titles of the time such as FFXIII, Versus XIII, Agito XIII, KH Birth By Sleep, among others.
The information here provides an interesting look back at the early stages of Agito XIII between the time when its development was moved to PSP and before its name was changed to Final Fantasy Type-0.
Translation notes: Touhou (東方): Another name for Orience, written with kanji. It means "the Orient.” The main article also uses the name "Orience" in katakana. As far as I'm aware, "Touhou" was never used again anywhere after this point. Suzaku (朱雀): The Japanese name of the Vermilion Bird. Type-0's NA localization uses "Rubrum" and "Vermilion Bird" for this depending on the context. Things are a little different here. "Rubrum" also appears in katakana. Madouin (魔導院): "Magic academy", what Akademeia is called in Japanese. Due to the fact that the early version of Agito XIII was going to feature magic schools in the other countries as well, I'm going to refer to Rubrum's Akademeia as a school here.
If you’re curious, the images on the pages are a combination of concept art we’ve seen and stills from the trailer that was most recent at the time.
p.19
FINAL FANTASY AGITO XIII
When nine hundred ninty-nine has passed and the Crystals have lost their power, the hour of Finis arrives and Touhou meets its destruction.
"Agito XIII" takes its name from the Latin word "agito", meaning "to set actions in motion." This work was announced as a network RPG for mobile phones that would utilize communication functions. However, a PSP version was officially announced at DKΣ3713 which garnered more interest from gamers.
While attending the magic academy peristylium, Suzaku, the players assume the role of young boys who are undergoing strict training to become "Agito." Here, the name Agito seems to refer to someone who is guided by the Crystals to restore law and order to the world, but the full details aren't known. Additionally, the trainees of the magic academy bind "blood pacts" with the Crystal to receive numerous blessings from the Crystal, such as weapons. You can see what this school looks like in the accompanying premium DVD.
At the same time, monsters are prowling outside the academy and an ominous presence is lurking. At the beginning of the story, the neighboring country invades and the magic academy's Crystal is rendered useless. Suzaku has no choice but to surrender...
p.20
This is not one chapter of a story. It is a history written by one’s own hand. It is destiny.
p.21
The story of Agito unfolds on the continent called "Orience." There are four countries, each with a magic academy peristylium possessing the name of one of the four gods, such as "Suzaku" and "Byakko."
The month of water, 842. With the support of the Byakko peristylium, the country of Milites launches an invasion on the Suzaku territory capital, Rubrum. The Milites army led by Marshal Cid achieves victory and gains control of Suzaku. Amidst the fires of war, the trainees of the Suzaku peristylium rise to devise a liberation strategy. Players will choose from one of the twelve trainees with weapons like katanas, spears, and cards to battle the harsh reality of the outside world.
The battle system of "Agito XIII" is an evolution of the "Active Time Battle" (ATB) in which time elapses even while commands are being chosen. A system called the "ultra high-speed ATB" will give battles the feel of an action game. Additionally, players can control the summons, and the summons themselves have their own growth system.
The video on the DVD only contains still images, but there are some selections that convey the nuances of battle. We hope that taking a look will help to expand your imagination.
p. 22
a Piece of Creation
"I made 'Agito' with a hard documentary style in mind, so I think this new trailer gave a completely different impression to the people who thought it was going to be just a school thing. (laughs)" (Director, Hajime Tabata / DKΣ3713)
Displaying changes from the school life shown so far, the video released at DKΣ3713 exudes the essence of a military documentary, as shown on page 20. Gamers couldn't hide their surprise at the change, but it's part of the story's epic presentation, according to Director Tabata.
◆
"This is not a story where there is good or evil in people's values." (Director, Hajime Tabata / DKΣ3713)
The Cid who appears in "FF Agito XIII" serves as the marshal of the Milites Empire. The story begins as he leads their army to conquer Suzaku territory. However, Cid is not someone you can strictly call a villain.
◆
"The l'Cie in 'Agito XIII' are a little different from the ones in 'XIII.' Of course, the underlying mythology is the same, though." (Director, Hajime Tabata / DKΣ3713)
In the trailer released at DKΣ3713, the narration states, "We will invade the border with the l'Cie." The l'Cie of "FF Agito XIII" possess the necessary power to accomplish this. In "XIII", the ones who are chosen and bear the mark are also called l'Cie. What the l'Cie of the two games have in common is that they both possess special powers and are being manipulated by someone... What were l'Cie like in the original mythology?
◆
"Progression is faster and enemies are more difficult, but please consider the battle system an evolution of the ultra-fast ATB system of 'Crisis Core FFVII.'" (Director, Hajime Tabata / DKΣ3713)
The Playstation Portable title "Crisis Core FFVII" utilized the 'ulta high-speed ATB system' which featured brief intervals between selecting commands and the execution of the action. It will be made much faster in this game and will be available for your whole party to use. It's already possible to play co-op mode with up to three people, but that number may increase depending on future adjustments.

Reply of Creators
Respondent: Director Hajime Tabata
Q. It was really surprising to see how much the game changed from before. Will it be a game like Kunitori Gassen? (A game where you seize other countries.)
A. The conflicts between the countries are what convey the passage of time and change in the game. Players participate in the game and story as a student living in this era.
Q. Are we going to see other schools besides Suzaku? Will we be able to join them?
A. On the continent where "Agito" takes place, each country has their own school of magic. Only Suzaku, a magic academy located in the country of Rubrum, has an organization for training warriors for a certain purpose.
Q. I'm wondering if the school-like part will end soon after the war starts.
A. That isn't the case, but I can't give more details about that yet. Look forward to future information.
Q. Can you choose things like your weapon and gender? (For example, a male student who uses a segmented sword.)
A. Rather than making characters, you increase your number of party members by gathering friends. Stay tuned for more information.
Q. Can I play it alone?
A. Of course. You can play it by yourself like a regular "FF" game. During gameplay, players can choose whether to play alone or to have other players join with multiplayer.
Q. What happens if my character gets knocked out while I'm playing with a friend?
A. Prepare as many characters as possible for your friends to use. We're also considering adding some original elements to your characters, so rest assured.
Q. Will you still wear the same uniform even if you change your equipment?
A. Yes. The main characters are all trainees of Suzaku, so they wear uniforms.
Q. I want to summon as much as possible!
A. As with player characters, we hope to include as many summons as we can.
Q. Does the card-user always use cards? Is it possible to change jobs?
A. There's a weapon system unique to each character. However, depending on your settings, we plan to make it so that you can have fun playing as the card-user with a totally different fighting style.

In one of the trailers from 2009, you can see that the cadets’ combat coats used to have the emblem of the Vermilion Bird, some writing, and the number XIII embroidered on the shoulder of their mantles.
However, as early as trailers from 2010, those things disappeared from their coats.
Interestingly, even though they aren’t used in the game, they can still be found on the textures for Lean and Tiz’s coats, as seen above. (Thanks to @kousuisetsu for showing me!)

Weekly Famitsu from June 2nd, 2006 Final Fantasy Agito XIII Interview With Hajime Tabata & Tetsuya Nomura Note: The issue also features extensive information about Versus XIII, but this post will focus primarily on the information pertinent to Agito XIII. I’ve included all of the featured artwork which is referenced in the article.

p.14
A Project Unified by a Single Mythology
On May 8th (local time) in Hollywood, USA, Square-Enix held a press conference ahead of E3. There, the company announced the start of a big project. That is, "Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII", the latest work in the popular RPG series.
The three works revealed to be in this project are "FFXIII", "FF Versus XIII" (hereafter referred to as "Versus XIII"), and "FF Agito XIII" (hereafter referred to as "Agito XIII"). Of these titles, two are for Playstation 3 and one is for mobile phones. Each game stands on its own, featuring different characters, stories, and systems. All of these works have one thing in common. That is the mythology that surrounds the crystals. The details of this mythology are currently under wraps, but we've been told that it has been equally conveyed to each world, and they each have their own interpretation of it.
In this special feature, we will give a report of the conference and provide information on each of the titles that were revealed. Our quick, on-site interviews with the 5 developers are also a must-read. Witness the largest project in the "FF" series!
p.30
The third title is a game for mobile phones. With the ability to carry it around, as well as a revolutionary system that utilizes communication, the meaning of "play" will expand!
The Most Accessible "FFXIII" Game That Can Be Played Anytime
The third work in the "Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII" series is "Agito XIII", which takes its name from a Latin word which means "to take action." Because it's for mobile phones, it is expected to feature a system that makes full use of communication functions. It is said to be the most accessible of the titles because it can be played anywhere. Two visuals by art director Yusuke Naora and a multitude of characters by Tetsuya Nomura were released. Based on their clothing and the appearance of the building, it would seem that school life will serve as the setting.
A School Drama of Swords and Magic Will Unfold on Mobile Phones?!
E3 Report: It's Really Set in a School?!
These three images were captioned in the video that played at the Square-Enix conference. There, it was revealed that the students assemble at a facility called the "Akademeia Peristylium" where they're divided into 13 classes for rigorous training. "Agito" will likely be a drama set in a school. Furthermore, the vertical image depicts what appears to be a school gate. The location of the horizontal image is unknown, but the same structure which looks like a school building can be seen on the hill in the distance to the right. Could that be an airship which has crashed in the foreground...? We can also see demon-like things flying around and glowing. The school and the destroyed outer world. We expect this to be a drama between the ordinary and extraordinary.
p.31
A Multitude of Characters
Boys and girls holding weapons who seem to be the main characters. Their matching red clothes tell us that they are students. As players choose a character and spends their time at school raising them, they may form a party with other players. This is an RPG that takes advantage of the communication capabilities of mobile phones.
Because the characters had no names, they numbered each of the characters in the image in order to indicate who they were referring to. For clarity, these numbers have no relation to the numbers they represent in Type-0. I personally included their names so you know who they were referring to.
1. (King) A boy with sharp eyes. He has guns in both hands. Are they mid-range automatic guns?
2. (Nine) A striking-looking boy with a scar on his face. He's readying a sharp spear. Is this a long-range weapon with high attack power?
3. (Queen) A girl with black hair and glasses. It's hidden in the image, but it seems she has a long, slender sword.
4. (Cinque) A girl with long curls. She holds a mace with a unique end.
5. (Cater) A girl with short hair. She's holding an old style single-shot gun. Is that what makes it powerful?
6. (Sice) A girl with blue hair. She has a large weapon that looks like a combination of a spear and sickle. Do you swing it around?
7. (Trey) A boy with a fearless expression. He's holding a bow. Does he perform long-range 1-hit kills?
8. (Deuce) A quiet-looking girl. Is her weapon a flute? Does she attack with sound or does she provide support?
9. (Ace) The boy standing in the center. His weapon looks unique, like cards. Does he throw them or use magic?
10. (Eight) A boy with short hair. He's the only character without a weapon. It seems he fights with physical moves like kicks.
11. (Jack) A boy with stylish piercings. He's wearing what looks like a sword on his hip. It looks to be a Japanese sword.
12. (Seven) A girl with a cool air about her. She uses a unique, segmented weapon with characteristics of a sword and whip.
A Moogle is One of Your Companions?
In the illustration, a Moogle is mixed in with the faces of your friends. However, he isn't one of your companions. It's simply a bonus from the mischievous personality of Mr. Nomura who drew the illustration. At any rate, there are only 12 students from this class of 13. We're very curious about what this inconsistency means.

[First Look at "Agito XIII"]
Based on the picture of the gate and the way the characters are dressed in the illustration, the setting for this game seems like it will be a school.
Tabata: That's correct. It's a story where students gather and spend their daily life at a magic academy.
At the conference, the captions said something about forming a contract with the Crystal.
Tabata: There is something we refer to as the "blood pact" (血の契約) with the Crystal. But that's all I can say on that matter! (laughs)
If the building in the picture is Akademeia, is that your base where you accept missions and go outside?
Tabata: It's different from a base, because people live their daily lives at Akademeia. The story begins with Akademeia as the setting and unfolds from there, becoming involved with the outside world after a certain point. The setting gradually expands as you get involved with things like invasions from other countries. The other picture of the wilderness shows that Akademeia is surrounded by a harsh world.
So the characters we've seen are students of Akademeia. Does that mean they're the main characters?
Nomura: That's right. The player chooses from them (*6) and raises that character. Like in "Before Crisis -FFVII-", you name them yourself.
It gives a different impression than "Before Crisis -FFVII-", but I wonder how the finished product will feel in comparison.
Nomura: We're using what we learned from "Before Crisis -FFVII-", but it will be very different.

[The Concept of "Agito XIII"]
"Agito XIII" was announced with the theme of "taking action." What does that mean, exactly?
Tabata: To begin with, choosing mobile phones for a "FFXIII" title was a challenge. On the development side, this is what it means to "take action." So then, how would the characters who appear in the world of the story, which is a fusion of ordinary and extraordinary, "take action" against their extraordinary surroundings? That's how you'll find what it means in the game.
Will there be any unique functionality like we saw in the "Before Crisis -FFVII-" event (*7) from May?
Tabata: As you say, I intend to include various features like that. I think there are things that can only be done with cellphones, so I'll use those like pillars.
What about carriers? (*8)
Tabata: That's still to be decided. As far as phones are concerned, we won't even know what sort of device will be available until the actual time of release, so, at present, we're developing the game using a virtual device on PC.
In "Agito XIII", it sounds like you form a party with strangers, so will you be completing missions together?
Tabata: Because cellphones are essentially personal belongings, you will have to act on your own. The game's system allows you to instantly form a party when necessary. Unlike MMORPGs, you won't have to gather your friends in order to depart for a mission. It's different from the usual online RPGs for PC.
Nomura: With "Agito XIII", we want to see how fun online games can be. I hope to see what form it takes. Online games tend to have a high level of difficulty, but I think that mobile phones make it easy to play and have fun.
[In Closing]
Please share a few final thoughts.
Kitase: As the title suggests, this will be "the new story of the crystals." Rather than starting over from the series' origins, I would like to show everyone a new world and story through several works.
Toriyama: I'd like to deliver "FFXIII" as soon as possible so it can be the first "FF" on Playstation 3... Well, that's what I'm hoping, but (laughs) you'll have to wait a little longer. Please look forward to further information.
Nomura: I'd like to give everyone a look at the real "Versus XIII" in action as soon as possible, but I'm currently working on the European version of "Kingdom Hearts II", so it will have to wait until that's finished. Right now, I'm working on the artwork and pre-production. I want to make a "FF" no one has ever seen before, so, for "Versus XIII", I'm thinking of doing a lot of things I've never been able to do before.
Tabata: We haven't even decided on the platform for "Agito XIII" yet... (laughs) I don't know when we'll be able to show how the game looks on the actual device, but I intend to do my best to make the most accessible "FFXIII" title.
Hashimoto: In the past, "FF" was barely known in America and Europe, but now it's attracting a lot of media attention. Nowadays, Hollywood has things like "The Matrix" and "Star Wars", and Europe has "Harry Potter" as what's referred to as comprehensive entertainment. We would like to share this project with the world as entertainment made in Japan. Please look forward to it.

(*6) Pick One According to a staff survey conducted by Nomura and Tabata, the most popular character by far is the student council president type girl in the center. The least popular is the short-haired boy who looks like a brawler.
(*7) "Before Crisis -FFVII-" Event A communication event in which players fought a mysterious enemy that moved around Japan like a typhoon. Turks (players) who lived in the target area worked together to gradually reduce the enemy's enormous amount of HP. (Released in May.)
(*8) Carrier As a mobile phone term, this refers to the telecommunications company, not the device itself. This includes NTT DoCoMo, au, Vodafone, and Tu-Ka.
