whyy are concerts so expensive and not close to me ಠ╭╮ಠ

#i talk #fuckn..montreux jazz festival with the best lineup but theres only two bands per concert and each costs over 100 #i could get there easily by train but the hotels are all booked #man if they had day passes to see several bands..air/soft cell/duran duran/kraftwerk/smashing pumpkins all on different dates..#absolutely not spending 500 for that excluding train and hotel #plus air is playing an openair festival next to where i work and they start 30mins after my shift on sunday #so i think ill just stand outside and listen lmao probably cant see inside though #alsoo the chameleons are doing a tour and its probably my only chance to see them and theyre like my fave rn #closest theyre doing is munich but like i have a direct train that takes 3.5 hours #i rly wanna do it but ill also need a place to stay overnight and idk how much i can trust se deutsche bahn or flixbus #and also its like 2 days before oktoberfest starts. im really hoping to avoid that esp munich #frankfurt might also be an option hmmm #i was thinking about literally going on a short trip to brighton to see them in august but idk if thats too much #would be more expensive too and id have to take a plane #ahh this is hard and i make it much harder by overthinking everything #ive never been to a concert in another country no idea how different/same it is

The Tale of Two Cities according to Stephi & Heiko - Part 407

As Stephi established last week, Munich as well as Cologne also has some sense of culture, even though we „only“ started with music schools and music shops. Still, that’s a start. This week, we will make it a little more glamorous as Munich and Cologne host film festivals and try to bring in some sense of glamour and maybe even Hollywood. At least that’s the hope.

Munich’s film festival, the banner can be seen i the first picture, is the biggest summer film festival in Germany. (I am not sure if there is a bigger one in winter. But hey, you have to advertise your event.) This year’s festival will be the 40th in Munich and it will present movies, documentaries, short films and TV movies. There will be a round 80.000 people in attendance.

Cologne’s filme festival (the second picture is just a symbolic one; I found it as a sign on a wall nearby), is the biggest film festival in North-Rhine-Westfalia (advertising once again). There are about 20.000 people in attendance. I am no longer in that scene but from a short online search it’s still only one of many festivals, the others being such smaller. I remember going to the smaller ones about15 years ago. Those were merely for film nerds back in the days and surely are still up to today.

Do you people visit film festivals or ever having been to one? And have you been as annoyed as I have been by the way these people act, talk and discuss movies?

So I'm back from the Slovenia trip. (I was there bc Animateka film festival screened Entbandung there, invited me for an Q&A and paid for the hotel stay.) I went there by train, and not only did I end up stranding on my way there and having to spend an unplanned night in a small Austrian town - I also ended up stranding on my way back home, again ending up spending an unplanned night... ...in the same little Austrian town. At the same hotel. In the same hotel room even. Definitely one of the weirdest things that ever happened to me. Luckily, Austrian Federal Railways had given me a hotel voucher every time that happened. And the town is very charming, with a lovely Christkindlmarkt. So I didn't mind too much. But my way back home did double from 15 hours to 30 hours. Once I was home it still felt like I was still in a train and the world was still moving and shaking around me, until I fell asleep. Ljubljana and Animateka were great by the way. It was nice to explore the city and get to know other student filmmakers at the festival. I hope I'll one day get to go there again.

#the little austrian town was Villach by the way #the germans here probably know why I stranded on my way home #the whole snow related catastrophic train situation in the Munich area and parts of Austria #Deutsche Bahn really needs more funding for basic railway maintenance #the situation is absolutely ridiculous #i couldnt afford the time and money really go to film festival screenings of my film until recently #unless they were in my home city #so im so glad I had the chance to go to two of them this winter #feels like a relief #film is aging out of its festival phase soon #so who knows how many film festival acceptances the film will still get #entbandung #text #non art #nonart #text post #update #Austria #this trip and meeting the people there made me feel a lot of feelings about my own cultural background #which is volga german and caucasus german #I feel that helped me feel familiar there in a way and connect to the filmmakers there in a way that I wouldnt have been able to if #if i had a more common german background #without any exposure to slavic language and culture
