1960, 250 GT SWB California
The 250 is one of the most legendary series of cars in Ferrari history.
Between 1952 and 1964, the company released 21 different 250 models—seven for racetracks, 14 for public roads—of which the “Cali Spider” might be the most well regarded, thanks to its potent V-12 and a Pininfarina-penned design that is one of the most beautiful bodies to grace an automobile.
The roadster, which was specifically built for the U.S., made its debut in 1957 as a long-wheel-base model (LWB), but it wasn’t until the SWB model debut in 1960 that it became clear how special it was.
This example isn’t just the first to roll off the line. It’s the actual car that was used to introduce the world to the model at the 1960 Geneva Motor Show.

Innocenti C coupé
Born in Piscaia, Tuscany in 1891, Ferdinandi Innocenti started his business career by establishing a hardware store in Rome. The business grew, and in 1920 Ferdinandi established a factory in northern Italy in Milan, in the Lambrate district. The factory produced everything from soccer stands to railways, and the reconstruction boom in Rome in particular boosted demand. The factories suffered in the Second World War, but Innocenti had kept them up and running productively for wartime needs even through difficult times. After the war, the factories also started producing for the vehicle industry, inspired by military motorcycles. Enrico Piaggio had introduced the Vespa in 1946, and Innocenti introduced their first scooter, Lambro River by Lambretta, just a year later. The scooters became a huge success and were manufactured under license in Spain, India, Argentina, Germany, France and Brazil. At the end of the 1950s, another economic boom followed in Italy, and the working class could for the first time get their own car, such as the Fiat 500. Ferdinando's son Luigi had taken over as vice president of the company and began to explore the possibilities of manufacturing passenger cars. A cooperation partner was first found in Germany, and a small Iseria passenger car was born in cooperation with Goggomobil. However, production was very marginal until the early 1960s when Innocenti entered into a cooperation agreement with the British BMC and began to produce Innocenti Austins and Mini Minors under license.Innocent's first in-house model followed just a year later when it introduced the Austin-Healey Sprite-based 950 Spider. Encouraged by Innocenti’s first sports model, the collaboration with Ferrari also began, and two 186 GT prototypes equipped with the V6 from Maranello were completed, until Ferrari decided to bury the project in 1966.
Innocenti was not discouraged, and developed their own small Coupé model, which was presented later in the same year. Ghia used the earlier Spider model as the basis for the design, and Sergio Sartorelli, who has made a name for himself with models like the Karmann Ghia Type 34 and the Fiat 2300 S, was given the main responsibility for the design. The wheelbase was extended and the rear of the car was completely redesigned. Special attention was paid to the quality of the materials in the interior, and the GT spirit was also exuded by dashboard including five gauges, the oil pressure gauge was straight from the Ferrari 250 GTE. New Innocenti C was powered by BMC's A-series 1098cc engine, producing 58bhp with two SU carburettors – enough for a coupe with a curb weight of just 695kg.

1963 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta
It’s unlikely any modifications have been made to the mechanical setup, which means the car’s performance specs should be the same as those of the stock F12 Berlinetta on which it’s based. This means power still comes from a 6.3-liter V-12 engine tuned to deliver 729 horsepower and 508 pound-feet of torque, enough for 0-62 mph acceleration in just 3.1 seconds and a top speed in excess of 211 mph.
We’re likely to see the Ferrari SP America formally introduced at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in mid-August.
As mentioned, the car was developed by Ferrari’s Special Projects division, which is open to only the Italian marque’s most loyal customers and has so far resulted in seven other cars that we know of. The first was the F430-based SP1 revealed back in 2008. Subsequent cars have included the 599-based P540 Superfast Aperta, 612-based GTS Pavesi, 599-based Superamerica 45, 458-based SP12 EC, 599-based SP Arya, FF-based SP FFX and the F12-based F12 TRS.

Marilyn Monroe's 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Cabriolet.
A unique model with which American buyers fell head over heels in love.
What is known is that it is a very early example, being only the eighth of some 40 units built overall.
Known by car historians as the “Pininfarina Spider unique series” to distinguish it from more common later versions, this is a 1957 250 Spyder. This car is an elegant convertible that perfectly expresses the spirit of the late 1950s Dolce vita lifestyle. Its signature characteristic, aside from the pop-up handles and rear fins, was a hardtop specially designed by Pininfarina to match the traditional leather top.

1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale bearing chassis no. 6701,
Just three of the 275 GTB/C Speciales were built, between 1964 and early '65.
Chassis no. 6701 is the only example that competed, including running at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans where it finished first in the GT class and third overall. In a race where mid-engined cars became increasingly dominant, that finish remains the best by a front-engined car to this day.
Like the more famous 250 GTO, the 275 GTB/C Speciale is both a work of art and a feat of engineering. Its tube-frame chassis is clothed in aluminum panels shaped by Scaglietti. The aluminum panels were about half as thick as those of the road cars, making them prone to denting. The Speciales also used thinner chassis tubes to reduce weight. All told, they weighed as much as 300 pounds less than the road cars.
They also packed more power. Under the long hood sits a 3.3-liter V-12 with six Weber carburetors and a 315-hp output, 69 horses more than the road-going 275 GTB. The car also features double-wishbone independent suspension at all four corners, and four-wheel disc brakes.

The second most expensive car ever sold at Auction $51.7 million a Ferrari 250 GTO.
Jaguar's 1961 - 150 mph E Type, is said to have been the inspiration for Ferrari's 1962 - 250 GTO entry in to the 1962 to 1964 - FIA GT race series
Speculation at the time that Jaguar Cars were also returning to professional Racing were not without substance, and Ferrari's entry in to the GT Race Series drove Jaguar Cars to produce twelve special Lightweight aluminum-racing models of their E Type for participation in the 1962 - 1964 FIA GT racing series.
However, Sir William Lyons ultimately decided against Jaguar Cars re-entering competitive racing, but instead sold all twelve Lightweights exclusively to his preferred privateer teams on the understanding that there would be no factory support offered thereafter.
All of the original 12 Lightweights have survived and are now owned by private collectors. If one of these ever becomes available for sale, it will be for millions of pounds, normally behind closed doors by private tender, and is very unlikely to ever be offered in a public sale.
Of the 12 Jaguar Lightweights, two were further enhanced to become known as Low Drags, with the Lindner Nocker - Low Drags considered to be the prettiest of the two.
Lanes Cars offers both LHD and RHD Lightweight and Low Drag Linder Nocker Handcrafted Aluminium Replica bodyshells for self assembly.
Please contact Lanes Cars for further details of build specifications and assistance.
