With the most pressing crisis of power not likely to ever happen again until the next couple of years courtesy of the nuclear breeder reactor and the Big MT, the Eagles enact phase two of their plan- to end the Legion monopoly on their resources and free communities across New Mexico enslaved by the Legion.
Legionnaires maintain and operate most of the oil wells in New Mexico, but don’t entirely understand how important crude oil truly is.
Most Legionnaires consider crude oil to be nothing more than lamp fluid, a long burning tarry substance that lasts a long time, but isn’t really that useful outside of being warmed up a little to separate a fluid that makes tanks (and only tanks) go.
Legionnaires by the name of Silvia, Clementia, and Qbirinus are maintaining an oil well at about 4 in the morning. Although they aren’t particularly using it well, they’re keeping quota.
Meanwhile, 21 CIA agents from Alamogordo in teams of three lock and load MK 22 Hush Puppies- originally invented for covert operations to silently kill guard dogs in the Vietnam War.
But these guns won’t be shooting dogs. They’ll be shooting people.
Three agents approach the facility, wearing black jumpsuits to blend in with the darkness around them. They departed from a “cargo” truck about 20 minutes.
And Silvia and Qbirinus go out to smoke some illicit cigarettes together as they typically do, to cool the nerves.
An agent- by the name of Jasmine creeps up behind Silvia and quickly garrotes him with a stiff wire, while another agent by the name of York shoots Qbirinus right through the head right before he had the chance to flee and bring attention.
Although the gun is decently loud even with suppressor, the tin building suffices to block the sound of the shot.
Clementia lays asleep on her bunk. Jasmine and York investigating the command center immediately notice her and shoot her on the spot.
Jasmine activates the emergency shutdown on the console, and the derrick shuts down. Across the deserts of New Mexico, the same thing is going on.
Legion centurions and decani in the recently built camps in the region have no idea what went on since nobody ever was able to reach a radio before being killed.
Encrypted messages that the Legion themselves can’t translate echo across on very high frequencies to be received at the former National Guard armory turned CIA headquarters at Alamogordo.
But the commanders aren’t safe either. Within the next 7 hours, commanders are killed and Legionnaires made POWs, or killed on the spot.
A group of Legionnaires with the intent of ransacking the town of Albuquerque are suddenly met by Marines and Army on the highway leading into the town, which shoot them down with emplacement weapons- the Legionnaires armor being incapable of blocking 7.62 rounds.
A squadron of Legion tanks headed to Alamogordo runs into anti tank mines placed on the road, and several Marines fire LAW launchers at the tanks, killing the crews inside and destroying the tanks with the rocket’s tandem HEAT warhead.
Heavy mining equipment is flown to uranium mines and phosphate quarries, while shortwave radio broadcasts are sent across the state explaining who the Eagles are and their motives, describes what their soldiers and vehicles looks like, encourages them not to fire upon them, and leaves the listeners with a call to arms to push the deeply unpopular with many Legion out of their homes and communities.
And a Frumentarii squad tasked with spying on Alamogordo using binoculars and deep cover reach their safehouse, only for four frumentarii to be killed by CIA operators swiftly and quickly. The last one flees for his life, gets wounded and starts begging for his life, only to be killed by an operator without a hint of remorse in his eyes.
Saboteurs in Legion camps and Legion controlled towns tune in for their nightly numbers station broadcast, only to be given a sabotage order in their decoded results.
F-15 fighter jets brought out of mothballed storage take off from the airstrips at Holloman, their supersonic cracks heralding their final arrival. Legion vertibirds are destroyed by the dozens- the odd vertibird that evades a sidewinder fired at it is riddled with 20mm explosive rounds and crashes to the desert in a ball of flame.
Legion encampments and their confused and furious commander-less soldiers are destroyed by military action- be it being bombed by the jets, by Stratofortresses, B-29s, Vertibirds and AH-1s, or if close enough to Holloman, by artillery, Marines, helicopters and tanks.
The entire state of New Mexico was originally controlled by the Legion. Now, with it’s hands broken and it’s eyes poked out, the Eagles, independent survivalists, small towns, and scientists are free to do whatever they want.
But the Eagles refuse to stop at New Mexico. With their resource problems solved, they seek to destroy the immoral Legion, end the war, free their slaves and their crude, cruel savagery that nobody- not even wastelanders deserves to be subjected to.
They decide to declare the NCR an ally, and declare the Legion enemies in a declaration of war as their own Mojave forces and covert operations teams stage the coup to end all coups.
tl:dr in like four words
eagles coup the legion
(RP thread for the coup against the Legion’s forces in the Mojave, and subsequent invasion of the Legion’s homeland by their own “friends,” which I’ve been leading up to in the first two accounts all this time, as the gameplan of the entire Eagles was to be independent the whole time. I think the anti-legion characters will be very pleased to see what happens.)
