When young Kate Campbell decided that she wanted to pursue a career in the United States Armed Forces, she wasn’t sure how to break the news to her Jamaica-born parents. Not that she wouldn’t have “their full support”, but Campbell feared that they, “being parents”, would be somewhat concerned that their youngest child might be flirting with danger. “My loving parents who are from the parish of Portland, Jamaica, have always been supportive of my decisions,” she told The Sunday Gleaner in a telephone interview last week. Visit the link in our Stories to read more. Emily Jazmin Tatum Perez In July 2001, after graduating from #highschool, Perez entered the #unitedstatesmilitaryacademywestpoint . There she was an #exemplarystudent & talented #trackathlete , becoming the #highestranking #africanamerican #femalecadet in the history of #westpoint - Cadet CSM . Following graduation from West Point in 2005, she was commissioned a #secondlieutenant in the 204th Support Battalion, #2ndbrigade #4thinfantrydivision of the #unitedstatesarmy . Perez was #killedinaction on September 12, 2006, while leading a convoy through #alkifl , #iraq , a mission for which she had volunteered. She was the first female African-American officer in US military history to die in combat. Mangalmay institute of management and technology, Greater Noida organized the NCC orientation programme and rank ceremony for the female cadets on 29th September, 2022. The programme covered the talks on why and how to join NCC, information about NCC and benefits of NCC. 

A motivational speech was given by the Chief Guest of the programme Col. Rajeev Sharma and Mr. S.K. Malik (DIG/SSG). Programme boosted the enthusiasm in the students with many students wanting to join the NCC.
