Drive-Thru Order (f)

This wav originated from a request I got recently to go through a drive-thru and get a coffee while needing to sneeze.

I arrive in the drive-thru line, all ready to order my regular drink. It’s a beautiful spring day. The leaves on the trees are either just budding or have already shown themselves to the world. Flowers blossom and reveal their pollen-filled centers. Riding to the cafe with the windows down, I think nothing of the fluffy particles floating into my car.

Settling in line behind another vehicle, I sense a tingling in my nostrils. I try to ignore it, but there isn’t any cure. The car in front of me moves ahead of the speaker box- it’s my turn. I roll the window down and prepare to hold it together.

Collecting my thoughts and while willing my nose into submission, I described my order. After giving my drink order, I pause. I begin to realize the tickles in my nose have reached an alarmingly time-sensitive point. When the barista asks about any additional items, my nose can no longer handle it. I explode in a desperate sneeze despite my best efforts.

“hheHhESCHhOO!”

The barista blesses me. Immediately, my cheeks flush a deep red. I should try to stifle next time. I hope there won’t be a next time.

Getting through the last of my order, I roll up my window. Now, I have more privacy. I know it won’t be long before - oh, no-

“huhhnh- hEHessxchieu!”

I sneeze. My nose feels like it’s on fire. I have a dreadful cold and the pollen count is helping none. I can’t do much except feel useless against the hitches and tickles that torment me. All I can do is try and stave off before I need to insert my card.

I roll the window down once more, handing over my card to the worker. I wish she’d take it and shut the drive-thru window, but she doesn’t. Instead, she’s subjected to my continued hitching, followed by a-

“HEHessSHIEW!” I stumble over my words as the sneeze completely overtakes me. The worker blesses me before handing over my card. Then, I’m informed that it will be a minute before my items are ready. I internally crumble at the thought of being held hostage any longer. I begin to return my card to my wallet and am instantly worried about my ability to hold back the obvious sneezes lurking in my nose. I hitch rapidly again.

“hHAH- aassscHIEW!” Now, the barista looks at me with concern. Blessing me once more, their face scrunches up in worry as I build up to another torturous sneeze. “hAH- etchiew!”

This time, I’m stared at like a museum display. They snicker at my heaving chest, clearly ready to release another large cold sneeze. They ask me if I’m going to sneeze again. I feign innocence, talking through the tickle as much as possible before it’s simply too difficult to fight.

“HEEAH- ESSHIEW!!”

Finally, the worker turns to grab my items from the counter. At this point, I’m really wanting to get out of line and let these sneezes out, but I have no choice. Stuck in line, I gear up for another. Simultaneously, they hand me my order, which I hastily put down.

“HEEEHESSSSHIEEEWW!!” There was no time to roll up the window. Exploding in another great sneeze, I thank the worker for their blessing in response to my tickly outburst.

Rolling up the window for the last time, I allow a couple more sneezes to escape. If only I was able to hold back longer…

Airplane Sneezies Scenario (f)

I went into this imagining that I could hold back much longer than I actually did😳 Turns out, when my nose needs to sneeze, it really needs to sneeze. So here I am, trying to hold back, hitching and hitching. The more I try to explain my conundrum, the more the tickle in my nose intensifies.

At the request of the person next to me, I attempt to stifle my necessary explosions. It’s no use. I sneeze anyway, making it clear to them that my nose needed stronger attention. I needed to give in - surrender - in order to gain any modicum of relief.

Self Obs.

Just thought I’d share a little self-observation from this morning’s mayhem.

There I was sat on the sofa, living my best work-from-home life, slaying tasks on my laptop like the productivity queen I am. Just as I was in my zone, a sneeze hit me out of nowhere.

"Ah-tssssssch-tsssssscha!"

And boom, it wasn’t just one sneeze, but TWO, back-to-back, like some kind of rapid-fire sneeze attack. The first one hit so hard it felt like it came from deep within my soul, misting the inside of my arm as I desperately tried to shield my face. And before I even had a chance to recover, the second sneeze launched itself out, just as aggressive, soaking my arm again. In truth, the sneeze, though not especially loud, was unmistakably wet, carrying a sound that closely resembled the hiss of an aerosol can.

Now, I’m not usually the type to sneeze in doubles, so I barely had time to react. I threw my arm up in a last-ditch effort to contain the chaos, but honestly? Too little, too late. My arm was soaked, and there I was, just sitting there like “Did that really just happen?”

Fortunately, I was home alone, so no one had to witness me desperately wiping my arm off with a tissue while maintaining what little dignity I had left.

My bulk alone time is coming to an end, so I gave the chhinkni one last run. The grand finale (for now), you could say.

I am.....astonished that this came out of me. Nothing close to this has ever happened to me in my entire life. Like, ever, ever. I don't even know what to say. This has to be basically a one in a million thing for me. This started so fast I almost missed the beginning because I hadn't hit record yet. I sat around the other times stuck in the waiting zone, so I didn't bother starting the recording before I sat down. Shows you what I know, apparently.

Everything slowed down at the end (last few were kind of a struggle), but holy hell.
