Cassandra pulled me towards the Temple of Sacred Ashes and along the way we encountered a huge number of demons. I'm a mage, so I've dealt with a few demons in my life, but this is on a whole other level. And just when I thought we couldn't handle a bigger onslaught, a pale, handsome elf took my hand - and pointed that hand directly into the rift.
Turns out I really can close rifts. Although I have no idea how that is possible. And obviously no one knew it, not even the unknown dwarf behind us.

The Backstory of Minerva
Tumblr media
Minerva was the only daughter of the Keeper of the Clan Lavellan. She had an older brother named Nox, who was a rogue hunter for the clan. She was a mage. She was blessed by Mythal as a baby. Mythal told the Keeper that Minerva would save not only her clan but the whole world of Thedas when she was older. No one really believed it besides the Keeper.
She started showing signs of being a mage when she was 5. She seemed to be able to make friends with the animals of the forest without having any problems and always seemed to know what they were thinking or close to it.
Her older brother taught her how to use daggers and pick locks to help her when she should get in trouble. Then the day of Nox's coming of age celebration as the other clan members were busy preparing everything, she was playing with a couple of nugs and followed them away from the camp.
Scared and alone, she tried to find her way back to the camp through the forest. She couldn't though. As she hears footsteps she tries to hide behind the tree she was sitting under. A strange elven man comes around the tree then squats down and smiles at her. He offers to lead her back to her camp.
Tumblr media
It had been a couple of days, but the strange man gets her back to where her clan's camp should be but there was no signs of a camp. She cried for the fact they had left without her and hadn't even searched for her.
Eventually she got over it and started to trust the man, which she learned his name was "Fen." He taught her how to use her magic and how to blend in around humans in cities. As the years passed, she applied the skills that Fen taught her with the skills that learned with her brother.
Once she was closed to her 18th birthday, Fen took her to back to where her old clan's camp was. Suddenly she felt sleepy, when she woke up she was in the Keeper's tent with Deshanna and Nox looking at her with smiles on their faces and tears streaming down their faces.
Confused, she asked what was going. They explained that she had missing for almost 9 years and the clan stormed the forest looking her for days and couldn't find any signs that she was there. Eventually, they did move on but came back every year around the same time and made offerings to the forest for her to return safely to them.
She had no recollection of what happened in the last 9 years. Just that she knew how to do things that she couldn't do before. She remembered the day she followed the nugs into the forest but that was it. It was like someone erased her memories of the last 9 years after that.
All the while Fen watched from a distance and kept an eye on her. Mythal knew that someone was intervening with Minerva but couldn't figure out who.
*A few years later*
Deshanna sends Minerva and Nox to the conclave to spy on the meeting, not knowing that it was gonna change everything for Minerva. She tries to save the Divine Justinia V. Only to be knocked unconscious and wake up 3 days later with some strange glowing mark on her hand and swords pointed at her. Again she loses more memories of what happened there.
She eventually agrees to help Cassandra and Lelliana if they release her brother. Lelliana agrees and sends word to release him. Minerva then sets out with Cassandra to return to where it all happens. She meets Varric Tethras, a dwarf with a nice crossbow, and Solas, an apostate like her. That strangely enough felt familiar.
Minerva sees first hand what happened at the Temple of Sacred Ashes and sees echoes of what happened there. After fighting a pride demon, she closes the biggest rift there and stops the mark on her hand from growing. All the while, Solas was anxious that somehow her memories would come back from her childhood and would recognize him.
As the months carry on the people of the lands started calling her the Herald of Andraste. She meets more people and eventually meets the monster that plagued her dreams, Corypheus, as he attacks Haven in order to kill her and take back the mark on her hand. Eventually she manages to push him back and save as many people as she can.
Solas decides to help them find a new place to live and leads them to abandoned castle of Skyhaven. But as the days drag on and trying to figure out ways to defeat Corypheus, Minerva can't help but to start falling for Solas as she feels there is something already there between them. Solas slowly starts to fall for her too. Knowing he shouldn't but can't fight the emotions anymore caves and falls for her.
They try to stop the assassination of Celene but fail. After that they find out that Greywardens have been disappearing and find the last one, who tells that they haven't just been disappearing but are hearing a song that is making them go to the Deep Roads and have themselves killed because they think the blight is coming for them. She solves that mystery only to find out that someone is controlling the Greywardens.
She gets sent into to fade with Varric, Hawke (Hero of Kirkwall), Stroude (The Greywarden from Origins) Solas and Dorian. Only to regain all her memories, even the ones from her childhood. She doesn't tell Solas when they return because she is afraid that it will ruin their relationship. At last after Morigan's mother and saving her child.
They figure out how to defeat Corypheus and put an end to his madness of becoming a god and reimaging the world. But a few nights before the big battle. Solas take Minerva on a walk in which he explains her Vallaslin to her and asks her if she wants rid of it. She says yes because she wants to free herself from such atrocities. He obliges and tells her that she is even more beautiful without it.
(Now this is where I add my own flare to the story for her as well as her beginning.)
They kiss and one thing leads to another and they have sex. They eventually return to Skyhaven and head to battle with Corypheus one last time, this time defeating him and his arch dragon. The orb that Corypheus had falls to ground and shatters to pieces. Minerva tries to talk to Solas about it seeing as it has bothered but he just dismisses it and her. As she and the others are celebrating, he takes part of it and disappears.

Had a rough day yesterday anyway, and the dragon age news isn’t helping, and I’m feeling sick and can’t get back to sleep, so I’m still chewing on it. Rambling after the cut.
I guess what upsets me is that, it’s fine to do a soft reboot, but if they’re doing that, why on earth would you do it with Inquisition 2? Why bring back Morrigan if she can’t remember her own past with you? And I know that some people have mentioned that Kieran’s plot relevance is done, but… I didn’t like him just for his plot relevance. I liked him because Morrigan loved him so much, and he changed her for the better in such great ways. But this Morrigan is just going to be a husk with the face of a friend.
All the things the devs have been saying to justify the decision are just that: justifications. The same way sleezy devs justify dressing female characters in skimpy clothes. These aren’t people with motivations of their own, you’ve written them this way. If none of your choices matter 10 years or 100 miles apart, don’t set your sequel game there. But even then I’m entertaining a silly justification— the choice of Divine is going to matter, even in the north, because most of the people up there are Andrastian according to lore, but if they’re ignoring that lore, that brings up some other, bigger narrative concerns.
I wasn’t even asking for huge pay off from stuff like The Well of Sorrows, but what removing the weight of that choice does, now looking back, is make Solas’s anger over it seem pointless and silly. He was SO MAD, and for what?
There’s also just the logical question of how it’s going to appear in game. Is the narrative going to just weirdly tiptoe around all of the potential landmines? Am I going to constantly go “Huh, it feels weird that this wasn’t mentioned”? Because a game that awkwardly tiptoes around a previously important character’s quantum state is a game that, essentially, unwrites them from existence. If they don’t know my HoF’s race or gender or class, or if they’re even alive or dead, they essentially can’t mention them at all outside of “The Hero of Ferelden was a hero from Ferelden who stopped the Fifth Blight.” Like, damn, we know more about the person that ended the Fourth Blight than this, and it was even longer ago!
And then… what’s with the dev team’s apparent disdain for codex entries? Long time fans of the series LOVE codex entries! I know it’s unrealistic to expect everything to matter in game, but are you telling me I just kind of have to headcanon all the things Queen Anora did, and possibly who replaced her? I just have to headcanon whether or not my HOF cured the blight? Because if I have to write all this for myself, why am I paying BioWare $60? It’s certainly not for the gameplay, I never played these games for that, anyway. From the game’s perspective, Celene, Gaspard, and/or Briala did all this fighting with each other to sit on the throne and do… absolutely nothing of consequence. Are they going to just refer to them as “The Ruler of Orlais” (because they can’t even use Emperor or Empress). That’s going to be really stilted, if that’s what they do. In fact, that would *still* be awkward, because there can be multiple rulers. “The Ruler(s) of Orlais”.
And just more practically, in the case of the character that does seem most important to BioWare: Solas. They’ve stripped all the potential nuance from your Inquisitior’s relationship with him. You can’t be an Inquisitor who was a dear friend vowing to stop him at all costs OR you can’t be an ultra aggressive Inquisistor who is angry and always hated him, because these were rolled into one “stop Solas” option. One of the devs (sorry can’t remember who) also said that the Inquisitor feels some level of guilt for what Solas is doing. Why? Why would an Inquisitor who always hated him, and possibly punched him, feel any guilt at all? They didn’t do this, they’re a victim of his lies as much as anyone else. Solas is solely responsible for his own decisions, don’t put motivations in the Inquisitor’s head. If that level of character motivation from the Inquisitor is needed for this story, we should have played as them again instead.
So, I guess to sum up, I would have been fine with a soft reboot if they had been open about what this was from the start, and didn’t try to bait me back in with nostalgic characters that I love, that won’t remember me. It takes me out of the game and makes me see how Morrigan is PR and Varric is PR. And it’s going to be noticeable, and it’s going to be hollow.
But most of all it’s going to be sad, seeing these characters that I love not know their own past, like walking past an old friend knowing they’ve forgotten all the fun you used to have together.

V: On Further Reflection
DA:I/BG3 verse
Inquisitior Luminous Lavellan never came back through the Eluvian. Rumors swirled as her final orders were issued, and as the Inquisition fell in line behind the Divine and their resources were dispersed to the common people, people wondered: What had happened? Where had she gone?
Somewhere in the temple of Mythal, a body was quietly buried.
Across the distance of the Fade and a hundred years: Lorelei Tav wakes up from a very strange dream and finds herself in a pod. Even after escaping the pod and setting out to save herself and her new crew of weirdos, she’s having trouble shaking the feeling she’s remembering something important.

Absolutely LOVE your Solavellan DAI edits on tiktok! Would you mind sharing the sliders for your female inquisitor? She's gorgeous <3
You are SO SWEET. I'm so honoured you love those edits they are my favourite to make too!!!!
And thank you! I love Leilani's appearance too. I'm hesitant to share her sliders tho, not that I think she's the pinnacle of beauty or anything, but I don't want to see other inquisitior's with her face because I made the decision to share em.
Like there's one female lavellan face that I see SO many inquisitors have. And it just means those Lavellan's kinda blend together and lose any unique-ness to them and I don't want that for Lani.
Maybe that's gate-keepy, and I'm sorry. You could always try to replicate it of course. I wouldn't mind that. But I don't want to contribute to potentially having her face on loads more inquisitors. I hope that makes sense!

Started my dai playthrough with my canon inquisitior! I hoped to get the game working on parallels windows but alas the game isn’t working for some reason so no mods unfortunately :/
I still wanted to do a Cullen romance tho so I’m using my ✨imagination✨ and just playing with a female character. It doesn’t bother me that much because my inky is very feminine looking in the first place. Sometimes I even get confused when characters refer to him by ‘she’ bc I’m like who are they talking about 😅
Anyways, I could actually use da keep this time so I’m excited for Hawke to turn up or to get a letter from my warden :3

Oh no worries about tagging me at all, I liked reading your perspective (especially about Wyll the changes to his personality made me so upset some people I swear) There's this increasing trend online to assume when a writer includes dark topics that they are doing so because they agree with whatever it is they are writing about. Usually because people mistake their personal enjoyment of a story with agreeing on a point a villian is making and not the writer doing a good job of entertaining them.
The best way I can think to describe this phenomenon is that stories are increasingly being written by people who do have witing talent, but don't know how to read. There was a post I saw kicking around about how a lot of what is billed these days as analysis is actually just summary, and that fits so much of the problems I have with Veilguard's writing. There's so much summary and re telling of things that should be shown to you. You need to read books if you want to be a good writer, and not just ones that have been published in the last 20 years. Old books, new books, poetry, histories, fantasy romance; as many different sorts of books as you can get your hands on and then after you read them you shut yourself away from places like Twitter and actually think about the mechanics of how what you read communicated it's story to you. And if you want to write for video game's specifically you should also be watching movies and playing other games. BG3 had its problems but the reaction of everyone in the industry to insist it shouldn't be the standard is annoying. Play it, dissect it, and learn what made it tick and apply it to your own game, please.
And with veilguard... the sheer amount of world building and information that has been shoved into podcasts, comics, and books that should have been experienced in game, but that's a different rant.
Solas's romance should have worked for any character combo, not just female elves. Half of the tragedy of ffxiv Shadowbringers (my beloved) is that the wol can be anyone but they still mattered the exact same way that the Inquisitior should have been able to matter to Solas. If bioware had gone the route of actually writing an elven rebellion, then I suppose locking him to elves makes sense in a way... but meh I still think race and gender shouldn't have played a part.
I'm also bisexual... I'll be honest I tend to lean towards the idea games should make all romance options player sexual/bi for no real reason other than if you are paying $60+ for a game you should have access to every single option. I wonder sometimes, though, if that's just my own lack of preference for gender shining through because I know exclusively gay and lesbian characters are very important to others and it'd suck if we went back to early trpgs where such characters were non existent or poorly written.
Taash... one of their quests made me pop a blood vessel. The "a little dragon hatches" quest had one line about "Oh the antam are catching dragons for the gods lol" and then Taash has three scentances of dialogue about their identity and that's the quest. Like hang on a second why is this quest a paragraph long? Why is the gender identity the focus here and not the source of the blighted dragons? The quest line felt like it was a weird mix of religious trauma, the immigrant experience, and gender identity questions that weren't explored in any depth because of how short the personal quests in this game decided to be. A paragraph of dialogue isn't enough for those topics, the people who have struggled with them deserve better.
Don't get me started on the focus on clothes in their conversations with Neve I'll scream.
that one conversation between emmrich and harding and the argument between emmrich and rook..... why is bioware trying to make the age gap an issue and why is their age even mentioned. why are they trying to make rook a fresh-faced adventurer. what if someone is playing as an older character huh. idk what's so wrong about two consenting adults in a relationship but ok

And gets...rejected?
Hm. That's new.

Basically "what if an Iron Bull/Inquisitor mage Lavellan romance was a slow burn friends to lovers, actually"?

💕, 🍑, and 👜 for Alexandra and Amayian
Both:
💕 Experiences with multiple partners?
Alexandra and Amayian are virgins before they becoming romantically involved with Leliana, so they didn’t have much experience, prior to multiple partners. For the both of them, it would sort of be hard to get into another relationship because they’re scared for screwing it up with Leliana, but they aren’t entirely imposed to it.
🍑 Which companion has the best butt?
Leliana.
👜 What type of clothing is especially attractive to them?
Amayian: Amayian prefers dresses on his partners, and the slightest hints of skin. But he also likes seeing them in breeches that are a bit tighter than what some would deem proper, and a blouse that show off their chest. (Imagine Geralt, from the Wither.) He also enjoys seeing his lovers in his shirts because it’s typically so big on them.
Alexandra: Alexandra really enjoys seeing her lovers in outfits that don’t hide her marks, so loose shirts. She also like the tight breeches, but she tends to also really like anything with silk. (She also loves lingerie. They both do, actually.)

Fictober Day 3--Roasted ft Iron Bull x Inquisitor
Super short, like less than 1,000 words. No warnings I don’t think? Let me know, though, and I’ll add them.
They were attacked in the late night, or early morning depending on who you asked. Solas and Belladonna had placed runes down around the camp because everyone was far too tired from a day of intense travelling and fighting to have even attempted to keep watch. They had known it would’ve been tough going, but they were nearly two weeks from the nearest Inquisition encampment and they were all feeling the strain. Belladonna had been the first to awaken, the sound of one of the runes activating startling her form her dreams. She didn’t hesitate to jump to her feet and grab her staff. As she parted the flap to her tent, another three runes were set off and an arrow flew past her head, narrowly missing her nose.
“We’re under attack!” she yelled, though Bull and Solas were already clambering out of their tents and she could hear Varric cursing from within his.
The fight seemed to wage on for hours, an unusually large amount of bandits coming one after another. The four of them fought hard and nonstop until the last man was standing. Belladonna was casting furiously, and the three men had taken to standing back, watching their Inquisitor with awe. Finally, Belladonna cast a large fireball that overtook the enemy entirely, burning him until he was just a skeleton falling to the ground. Belladonna stood bent over, using her staff to hold her up, panting heavily with exertion.
After a few moments, The Iron Bull burst out laughing, his deep bellows echoing off the trees all around them. Belladonna looked at him incredulously, and he was nearly doubled over with the depth of his laughter. He pointed at the man she had just slain and coughed out between bellows, “You…He’s…absolutely roasted! I mean there’s nothing left of the bastard!”
Belladonna struggled to stand up but she turned to face him entirely, incredulous looks on not only her face, but on Solas’s and Varric’s as well. After a moment, Bull strode over to her, still laughing, and scooped her up in a bone crushing hug. She gasped for air, struggling against his tight embrace, and he loosened slightly. He pressed a sloppy kiss to her cheek and beamed at her. “I absolutely love you, Kadan.”
She smiled at him and wiggled her arms free to slink them around his neck and she kissed him gently. “I love you too, nerd.”
