Additional (less relevant) info beneath the cut!

-ART ASSETS I drew all of the Clone art! I found the most nakedest screencap I could of any of them (SURPRISINGLY DIFFICULT) and then traced the base, then looked for Star Wars Male Fashion (WAY FUCKING HARDER) to draw on them and dress them up! I think for Hunter and Fives/Echo I just went crazy but for all the rest lmk if u can spot who I stole the outfits from, i deadass dont remember at this point For Background art I found them all on google images - from what I recall, it's mostly concept art and screenshots from games! -ENGINE I made this in Twine, an incredible tool for making text-based games! how they kiss you; part two
Pairing(s): 501st, implied fem reader
Overview: literally just how they kiss you. It’s literally just that.
Warning(s): Hardcase refers reader as ‘pretty mama’ at one point, cursing (in Mando’a and English), implied smut, descriptions of smut, yeah, basically just smut, tiiiiny bit of angst but it’s not
Word-count: I honestly did not count
Rex:
-OH YEAH
-why not start with our dear old captain first??
-just look at that smirk, you know this man would DEMAND kisses before any mission. It’s religious at this point
-well- I mean. Not in the beginning.
-Rex is a lover boy. Straight up.
-I mean, did you see his face when he stumbled onto Cut’s family?
-he’s a family man 😭
-so, he thinks you’re an absolute dream come true
-I mean, c’mon. A pretty partner? A loving partner? He loves you with all his damn heart, Maker.
-…buttttt, despite his love for you, he’s actually really shy. He doesn’t wanna mess up, or rush into anything.
-so, this translates into you having to kiss him first :/
-which, hey! That’s not bad whatsoever! Cuz guess what?
-YOU TOOK HIS FIRST KISS
-that’s something to remember. Especially for Rex.
-and for the first time, he actually does well!
-once he learns, he can’t stop.
-his kisses are firm. Real soft, though. Like he’s afraid if he kisses too hard, he’ll hurt you. Like he wants more but also wants to break the kiss and hold you instead.
-oh, but don’t worry
-you should see him when he’s all worked up
-he actually won’t use tongue, but he’ll use his tongue anywhere else (take that as you will.) As for kisses, they’re deep. God, you can guess what else is deep.
-he won’t come up for air. He’ll kiss you until y’all are breathless
-“Maker—- love you, love you s’much, mesh’la- take it- take it deeper f’me, haah—“
-yeah, ahem. So, that’s him.
———————————————————————————
Jesse:
-Good Lord
-so, uhm.
-this guy’s smooth. Really. Smooth.
-I’m pretty sure it’s canon that he goes to the 79’s, along with Kix, and well, with the people there and letting loose an all, it’s not that surprising that Jesse most likely has a body count
-at least like, two or three people he fucked in the refresher
-so, he’s experienced
-unlike Rex, he’s not shy
-he will GLADLY make out with you all day
-…once you two become a thing, and behind closed doors
-yes, even though Jesse’s a bit freaky and lowkey kinda a slut in the 79’s, once he meets you and actually well, gets with you
-he settles down
-due to how y’all are serious, he becomes more private. I mean, he definitely wants people to know he’s yours and you’re his, but he doesn’t want to flaunt you out there
-in the beginning, his kisses are hard. Demanding. Teasing, even. Tongue down your throat in seconds. Would literally always lead up to sex.
-but, as your relationship progresses and he realizes this isn’t just to get in his pants or anything, the kisses become softer
-more tender
-they don’t shorten, don’t misunderstand me, but they’re not demanding anymore. At least, not all the time
-this time, he kisses you because he loves you
-he kisses you because he really can’t know when the last time he’ll be able to
-he kisses you because he wants you to know how much you mean to him
-it’s a lust-to-love thing
-oh, but sometimes he may swipe his tongue over your bottom lip. Just to tease you. He’s not a total softie, doll.
———————————————————————————
Kix:
-aw, just look at him
-so, as mentioned before, Kix would go to the 79’s with Jesse a lot
-but, he wasn’t really a slut 🤷♀️
-he’d go there for the drinks and for fun. But not to get laid
-I mean, c’mon. There’s too many health risks. STD’s, potential pregnancy…
-what else would you expect from the medic
-BUT! That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t flirt.
-if he was interested, he’d talk. Say hi, hello, how are you, bla bla bla, but he wouldn’t take them to bed. It was always just hello for him.
-until he met you
-Kix is very old schooled
-very gentlemanly.
-it will at least take three to four dates and consistent talking for him to actually be hooked, and want something more, let alone kiss you
-oh, but once you get there
-he’ll kiss you when he thinks the time is right. It has to be the perfect moment.
-maybe when a quiet moment appears during one of your dates, or after a heart to heart or when he’s dropping you off or before he goes off on a mission
-the first kiss is soft. Firm, though. Full of meaning and unspoken confessions
-and then he’ll part, just for a second before returning one last time for a second kiss, and then he’ll be on his way.
-if you were to get intimate, though, his kisses are somewhat the same
-the only difference is there’s a hint of desperation in his kisses
-they’re chaste and a tad frantic, as if he’s rushing
-he is.
-like he’s trying to convey all his love to you while also struggling to hold back and not just—- pound you until you can’t sit right
-don’t worry, he’s a gentle lover though. But if you ask, who is he to deny?
———————————————————————————
Hardcase:
-oh, my silly little hyperactive adhd clone
-with no hesitation or anything, Hardcase absolutely geeks over you
-he’s jumping up and down when he sees you, grinning so hard you think his teeth might crack, laughing boisterously while scooping you up into a hug
-cuz you’re his baby, his hot stuff, his pretty mama
-and he’s NOT SHY in letting you know
-believe it or not, Hardcase actually wasn’t experienced before you. Surprising, right? Well, not really. Hardcase is somewhat of a himbo, and usually can’t take a hint on whether someone’s hitting on him or not. Plus, whenever he hit the bar, he’d usually be too drunk to realize if someone was or not. He’s there to just have fun.
-but he was eager to kiss you
-extremely. Extremely. Eager.
-you think he’d be a natural his first time?
-HAH. That’s cute. But no.
-the first kiss is sloppy. Rushed. I mean- it’s deep, don’t get me wrong, but just- very sloppy.
-noses squishing together, lips not even locked, teeth clacking together—
-yeah, it’s not the best. But it was for him!!
-at least, he thought it was
-until you actually taught him
-and for the first time, he froze. Everything in him went calm. Well, for a couple seconds, at least
-then he was giggling like a school-girl again and pecking all over your face
-Hardcase’s kisses are quick. Sometimes sloppy, and rushed, but it’s just because he gets so excited!
-s’not his fault, babydoll, believe him. It’s just easy to get too excited around you.
-and, well, that also transfers in the bed
-hope you can last a couple of quick rounds. He doesn’t plan on taking any breaks.
———————————————————————————
Dogma:
-guys, be for real. You think this man would know how to kiss?
-nah.
-he’s clueless. I mean, c’mon, all he does is work, work, work, and follow orders!
-he doesn’t get out much, give him some slack!
-so, well, you’re gonna hafta initiate everything and everything.
-Dogma is uptight, and fiercely believed that a clone’s person is strictly only to follow orders, so don’t get your feelings hurt when you try to initiate any affection for the first time and he flinches away or scowls. It’s nothing personal, really. He just doesn’t know how else to react.
-reassure him. Praise him. Tell him that he’s more than just a number to you, that you don’t just see him as a piece of hardware
-Dogma absolutely craves praise
-so when he first kisses you, he instinctively starts worrying and asking you if he did alright, if it made you feel good, if you were happy with him
-do him a favor and just kiss him to shut him up
-it works. It really does.
-Dogma’s kisses are shy. Barely there presses, fluttering and fleeting.
-you’re gonna hafta hold his face to keep him from pulling away almost immediately
-and then, once that strict and by-the-book soldier melts away, leaving the praise-starved and lowkey needy man beneath, Dogma will melt.
-you just need to guide him
-tell him what feels good, how good he’s being, how much you love him
-and Maker, isn’t he a pleaser
-he’s a suck up. He wants to please you.
-and doesn’t he do a damn good job of it
———————————————————————————
Tup:
-sweet baby, right?
-probably has no idea what he’s doing, right?
-WRONG
-look, sweet baby, yes, he is, he’s a sweetheart
-but he’s not a prude
-and he’s DEFINITELY not innocent
-I mean, c’mon. Have you seen his brothers? They’ve probably shown him holoporn at one point or tried to hook him up with someone
-that being said, he’s still newer, but he’s not completely ignorant
-and it’s not like he really liked playing around that much, either. He didn’t wanna hurt anyone’s feelings 🥺
-and when you appear? Well, you can guess how sweet this boy is to you
-he courts you.
-he’s not timid, but he can be shy, but it’s not like, really shy. He’s just very polite and doesn’t wanna scare you away, because in all realness, Tup is a bit insecure
-please reassure him.
-he may be shy of touching you at first, but once you assure him, he’ll start to. When the moments right, of course.
-his kisses are short and sweet
-a peck here and there
-oh, but don’t be disappointed. If you want more, he’ll give more, you just have to ask
-but, then again, he’s still a little hesitant about it. Just take the reins with this one.
-like I said, Tup isn’t innocent, he’s not a prude
-but he’s still a virgin. He could kiss, he could flirt
-but he’s always been to scared to give his virginity away, because that was special to him
-well anywho- we’re not on that topic! Yet :)
———————————————————————————
Fives:
-and last but not least! Fives!!
-look, Fives is a stud
-he’s goofy, flirty, cheesy, oh, so cheesy
-and he turns up that cheesiness all the way when he meets you
-so he’s experienced
-he 100% his, but when it comes to you, he’s not all ‘oh, yeah, to the bed, baby,’ but instead more of a, ‘hey, got a map? Cuz I’m getting lost in your eyes—-‘
-yeah. It’s bad.
-oh- but just- just give him a chance- kay? He’ll prove it to you—
-his kisses are DEEP
-PASSIONATE
-he uses tongue
-not to where it’s overwhelming, but to make you breathless and yearning for more
-kisses hard, one nip to your bottom lip before soothing it with his tongue and then just going for it
-you know he has you pinned against some place while he kisses you
-Makes out like his life depends on it
-but it’s not just lust for him, don’t worry!
-he’ll be breathing out his love for you with every kiss, growling under his breath while he thrusts into you deep and slow
-“Kriff— hold on- hah- fuck! Feel me right there- like that? Yeah, hahaah, yeah, ya like that, baby? Yeah, I know you do—“
-yeah. It gets heated really quickly.
-he’ll have you squirming in no time
-you’ll be yearning for this man in every way
-so yes.
-Fives is a very passionate man.
-and he just gets even more passionate when he’s with you

Revelations
Summary: Needing a little help Rex tracks down his favourite civilian mechanic from the war.
Pairing: Rex x fem!reader
Word Count: 4,129
*********************
Rex had once believed that the end of the war would mean an end to the fighting, an end to losing his brothers, and an end to the never-ending number of problems he had to deal with on a daily basis. How wrong he had been. Sometimes, when he lay awake at night, staring up at the ceiling he couldn’t quite believe how things had ended. His heart ached when he thought about it too much, the faces of all of his brothers flashing across his mind. Visions of the smoke from the Venator as it lay crumbled against the earth haunted him in his dreams. Jesse, Kix, Cody, General's Skywalker and Kenobi, all gone. Lost to the Empire. But worst of all were the thoughts of how meaningless his life had actually been. He hadn’t been a soldier, he'd simply been a pawn in someone else's game. That was what kept him up most at night. And it was that thought that continued to drive him to help his brothers, to fight back against The Empire in any way that he could.
It was what currently had him stalking through one of the mid-levels of Coruscant as the sun began to dip into the evening. It wasn’t as risky as being up on one of the upper levels where the Coruscant Guard routinely patrolled but still close enough to the surface to put him on edge. But desperate times called for desperate measures.
He kept his head down as he went, he had left his armour back at base so he knew most people wouldn’t give him a second look but months of hiding had made him extra cautious. He slowed as his destination came into view, his head swivelled a few times, checking to make sure he wasn’t being tailed before he headed over to the garage across the street. It was a small garage but well kept, the lights inside still shone brightly out into the street as he neared the door. He knew it would likely be closing shortly so he would have to make this quick.
A bell chimed as he stepped through the door, a quick scan of the shop revealed the front was empty at first but he heard movement in the back almost instantly.
Rex released a breath he didn’t even realize he had been holding as your figure stepped out of the back and behind the counter. His heart was suddenly beating in his chest wildly at the sight of you. There had been very few days since the end of the war where he hadn’t thought about you, hadn’t worried about what might have happened to you. He had thought he would never see you again but now that he was every confusing feeling he had harboured for you for years was slamming back into him.
“Hey there, how can I…” You started before you slammed to a halt, your entire body freezing and your eyes widening as you took in the sight of him.
“Hi,” He greeted sheepishly, waving at you when the feeling of needing to do something with his hands overwhelmed him.
“Rex…” Your voice was barely above a whisper as you stared at him.
Before he could even think of what to say next you had launched yourself over the counter in a blur of movement, throwing yourself into him and crushing him a hug.
He chuckled nervously as his hands wrapped around you instinctively. He tried his best to ignore the heat that was suddenly pooling in him at the feeling of your body being so tightly pressed up against him. He’d always had armour on to protect him in the past anytime this had happened.
You pulled away from him after a moment but your hands stayed gripping his biceps, as though you were worried he was about to slip away again. Your face was paler than normal as you looked up at him with wide eyes, “I heard that you went down with the ship, they said you were dead. I-I thought you were dead, Rex.”
He chuckled darkly as he reached up to rub at the back of his neck nervously, “Well, only one of those things is true, clearly.”
His words seemed to break the tension in the room and you chuckled softly, a grin finally splitting your face as you let your hands fall away from him. He found himself mourning the loss of your touch but he tried his best to push that thought aside. He was here on a mission after all, and not one of a personal nature.
“Gosh, I can’t believe you’re really here,” You said with a breathy laugh, “I missed you.”
Your admission did something funny to his insides but again he tried his best to ignore the feeling, “It’s harder to get rid of me than one might expect.”
You laughed, “Clearly, but I’m glad for it.”
The two of you simply stared at one another for a long moment. Rex could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he looked at you. You didn't look any different than the last time he had seen you, you were still so kriffing beautiful. He watched as your brow furrowed slightly as your own eyes finished their appraisal of him.
“What are you doing here Rex?” You asked, “You - you don’t look like you’re with The Empire,” You said the second part hesitantly, as though you were afraid to hear his answer.
“I’m not, I’ve uh - defected,” He answered, for lack of a better term. The fact that he was listed as KIA sort of negates the term but it’s close enough to the truth, “Are you still…” he started though he was somewhat unsure of how to ask the question.
You had once been, in his opinion, the finest civilian mechanic the GAR had under contract. Rex had met you only days after the first battle of Geonosis, back when you had both still been shiny. He had taken an instant liking to your quick wit and easygoing nature, plus no one could fix a ship as efficiently as you could. The two of you had remained friends throughout the war. You had often been stationed on Coruscant at the main base but there had been many occasions when you had accompanied the 501st on their missions. Those times had been his favourite and if he had made extra trips to the flight deck during those missions it had been completely coincidental, or so he told himself.
You shook your head, “No, after everything that happened, the Jedi, the clones, being told that you had been killed…” You trailed off momentarily, biting your lip before you looked back up at him, “I saw what was happening and it became pretty clear pretty quickly that it was not something I wanted to be a part of any longer. My dad was ecstatic to have me back in the garage though.”
The two of you were silent for another long moment, simply looking at one another. Rex hadn’t thought it would be possible but his respect for you only grew at the knowledge that you had left The Empire, seeing it for what it truly was.
“Do you know what happened to the others?” You asked hesitantly after a moment, “Jesse? Kix? Echo? Cody?” The list could have gone on and on, you had been friends with many of the boys.
His heart wrenched at the thought of his brothers, he didn’t know if he had it in him to tell you the truth. Jesse who had died trying to kill him and Ahsoka, his actions not his own. Kix, who had vanished only weeks before the end of the war never to be seen again. Cody, who was still with The Empire or worse. He settled on simply shaking his head instead, the answer was too complex and he knew you would get his meaning.
Overwhelming sadness flashed in your eyes and he instantly hated the fact that he had been the one to put it there. He tracked your movements as you reached out to rest a hand on his arm comfortingly, “I’m so sorry, Rex.”
Rex simply shook his head, he had quickly learned that there really were no words to convey his feelings about all that he had lost.
Sensing his discomfort you quickly changed course, which he was very appreciative of, “So, what are you up to now then?”
“Uh…” He faltered. He trusted you, he did, he always had. But it wasn’t just his life that would be in danger if word were to get out what he was up to. Not only that, but he couldn’t bear the thought of putting you in danger by roping you into things more than his being here already had. He cursed himself internally for having not come up with a better answer to this inevitable question.
Your eyebrow raised but instead of suspicion there was only amusement dancing in your eyes, “Let me guess, it’s classified?”
He felt his face flush slightly but he was relieved by your response, “Sorry, it’s not just me who would be at risk if something were to happen.”
“Say less, Captain,” You replied with a laugh, patting his arm reassuringly, “But what brings you to me?”
“I’m looking for a specific part for a ship. I was hoping you might be able to help me out,” Rex replied. The Remora had taken a direct hit on their last mission. Echo had done his best to try and repair it but a part of the stabilization system had been beyond his ability to fix and without it they were effectively grounded. The Martez sisters had done their best to find the part but hadn’t yet had any luck and Rex was beginning to grow desperate. The longer they were grounded the fewer brothers they were likely to save. Echo had suggested simply stealing a new ship but Rex hadn’t wanted to draw that much attention to them. At least not until they had no other option.
“Sure thing,” You replied happily before you turned and headed back towards the counter, “What are you looking for?”
He followed after you as you slipped behind the counter. You disappeared momentarily as you bent down behind the counter before you re-emerged with your data pad in hand. He gave you the specifics of the part, his fingers drumming anxiously against the countertop as he watched you scroll on your data pad.
“I don’t have anything in stock right now,” You replied with a soft frown, “But I should be able to get it with no problem. It might just take a few days to have it shipped from a warehouse.”
This was exactly why you were his favourite, “Really? That’s great. What will I owe you?” Thanks to Senator Chuchi's support paying for the part wasn’t an issue.
You shook your head before giving him a cheeky grin, “Don’t worry about it Rex, you get the friends and family discount.”
“I can’t…” He protested but was cut short.
“Ah ah,” You said, waving your hand at him dismissively, “None of that. Besides, a dead man’s credits won’t really do me any good,” You teased as you set your data pad aside and leaned your elbows on the counter, propping your chin up on your hands as you looked up at him.
He wanted to protest further but he had learned years ago that arguing with you once your mind was set got him absolutely nowhere, “Thank you,” He said sincerely. You really were his favourite.
You smiled brightly at him, “No problem Rex. How should I get ahold of you once the part comes in?”
He reached out to grab a stylus and piece of flimsy from off the counter, “Here’s my private comm channel, just give me a call and I’ll come and grab it,” He paused momentarily, considering, “This is Echo’s. If you can’t get ahold of me, try him,” With his line of work he never really knew which day could end up being his last. He knew that if something were to happen to him his brother would continue on with their mission without a doubt.
“Echo’s with you?” You asked, perking up as you took the flimsy from him. The last time you had seen Echo he had still been with The Bad Batch.
He nodded, “It’s a long story.”
You laughed, “Classified?”
Rex chuckled softly, “No, just long.”
“Well, maybe you can tell it to me when I get that part in,” You replied with another soft smile that made his face flush.
He simply nodded, trying his best to ignore the heat that was once again pooling in his stomach at the mere sight of you, “I think I can manage that.”
“Good, I’ll see you later then Captain,” And before he even fully knew what was happening you had leaned over the counter, stretching up onto the tips of your toes to plant a swift kiss on his cheek.
“I’ll uh, yah, later. I’ll be seeing you, then. Later.” He stammered as absolute fire burned in his face. He could still feel the weight of our lips against his cheek as he stepped away from the counter. Your eyes were sparkling with amusement as you watched him make his hasty retreat which only made the feelings churning inside him even worse. He spun around and marched towards the door, determined to get out before he did something else embarrassing.
“Rex,” You called after him just as he reached the threshold, causing him to pause and spin back in your direction, “I’m really glad to see you. I’m very happy you’re not dead.”
He couldn’t manage more than a nod, his brain apparently having left him completely. With a final wave, he stepped out into the cool night air of Coruscant, breath filling his lungs once more as he made his way back towards base. You might be his favourite, but he wasn’t entirely convinced that you weren’t going to be the death of him.
*******
Just as they had during the war, the days blurred together for Rex. There was always something that needed doing, intel to collect, supply runs, people to meet. His to-do list was endless. He let out a deep sigh, his attention still focused on his data pad as he walked back into the Martez sister's garage, their temporary base. He had just finished meeting with Senator Chuchi and while their meetings always went well, the woman was unwaveringly kind and supportive, he was tired. He wanted nothing more than to collapse on his makeshift bunk in the back and stay there for the rest of the day. But as always, duty called, and he would answer.
He lifted a hand in greeting as he strode past Howzer and Nemec, the motion almost automatic as his eyes remained glued to the data that he was currently scrolling through on his datapad.
He stopped short suddenly though as the sound of familiar laughter reached his ears. His head snapped up and his gaze instantly zeroed in on the source. For a moment he thought he was dreaming because you couldn’t possibly be standing in his base, laughing with his brother as the two of you were huddled under the hull of The Remora.
As if sensing his presence your head turned towards him and you gave him a cheerful wave, “Hiya Rex!”
He frowned, so much for keeping you safe and out of the loop. He turned his narrowed gaze towards Echo who was looking suddenly sheepish from where he was kneeling by your side. They would be having words later.
With a sigh, Rex walked over towards you, his data pad long forgotten as he focused on where you were clearly working on the ship. The answer was obvious but he asked the question anyway, “What are you doing here?”
“The part came,” You chirped, still smiling brightly up at him, “I tried to call you but couldn’t reach you so I comm’d Echo. He told me to bring the part down and then I figured I might as well give him some help with the repairs.”
Rex cursed softly as he looked at his comm, sure enough, he had a missed call. Likely from when he had been in his meeting with the Senator and had silenced the device.
“She is the expert after all,” Echo said, his pale eyes brimming with amusement as he looked between you and Rex. It only made Rex frown more.
Rex steadily ignored his brother, turning his attention back to you instead, “How are the repairs coming?”
“All done actually,” You replied, “Just closing her up, and then she’ll be good to go!”
“I’ll uh, let you two discuss logistics while I go start her up,” Echo said as he stood. You gave Echo a nod and a brief smile before you turned your attention back to tightening the last of the bolts. He patted Rex on the shoulder as he passed him, a grin on his face that Rex did not like the look of. Sometimes, with everything Echo had been through and all of the changes he had undergone, Rex forgot that Echo still had the ability to be a little shit when he wanted to be. The relationship between the two of you, even though Rex had insisted it was completely professional, had not been a secret to the boys in the 501st.
Rex stood silently as you finished up the repairs, unable to pull his eyes away from you as you went about putting your tools away. A sharp intake of breath escaped him as you paused to pull your hair back from your face, piling it onto your head and pining it quickly in place. His eyes traced the curve of your neck as heat pooled his stomach.
Likely sensing his gaze you looked towards him as you stood up, your eyebrows raised questioningly as amusement swum in your eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You asked with a soft chuckle, a wide grin on your face as you clipped a wrench back onto your tool belt.
Rex felt like his brain was malfunctioning, his face flushed as you smiled brightly at him. There was a gleam in your eyes that set his heart pounding against his rib cage. He hadn’t meant to stare, he just couldn’t stop himself it seemed. Whenever you were around it was as if nothing else existed for him. It had always been like that, but apparently, he had used to be better at hiding it.
Because you’re beautiful was the first coherent thought that came to mind. It was only after he noticed your eyes widen and your grin become absolutely beaming that he realized he had actually said that out loud.
“Well, thank you, Captain, that’s very kind of you to say,” your cheeks flushed just ever so slightly while he stood there like an absolute di’kut hoping a pit would open beneath him and swallow him whole. It was too late to take it back now though. Not that he ever would take it back. He truly meant it so he couldn’t reverse course now without coming across as intentionally cruel.
“I-“ he started then stopped, completely at a loss for words as his face burned with embarrassment. This was all Echo’s fault, somehow.
“Is that a conclusion that you’ve just recently come to? Because you sound somewhat surprised,” You teased which only made him flush further.
If he had been floundering before it was nothing compared to what he was doing now, “No...no...I...what?”
You let out a bright laugh, stepping closer to him and resting a gentle hand on his arm. He was once again glad to be back in his armour because even through it he could feel the heat of your touch.
“I’m just teasing you Rex,” You replied with another laugh, smiling up at him.
He still didn’t know what to say so instead he simply nodded. His attention was still focused entirely on you as you suddenly stood on your tip toes, the whisper of your voice against his ear sent a shiver down his spine, “I'll let you in on a little secret though. I’ve always thought you were beautiful too.”
With another gentle laugh, you pulled away from him, patting him on the arm once more before you move away. Leaving him standing there, completely dumbfounded as you waved up at Echo in the cockpit, giving him the all-clear to start up the ship.
The Remora rumbled to life, engines running smoothly once more. He continued to watch, clearly incapable of focusing on anything else, as you gave Echo a thumbs up before returning to his side once more. You looked up at him, a warm and somewhat expecting look on your face. After years of knowing you and being on the receiving end of that look many times before he knew exactly what was coming next.
“So,” You started, “Echo gave me the run down of what you’ve got going on here. I want to help you, in any way possible.”
Rex felt himself tense up, “It’s dangerous. I can’t ask you to put yourself in harm's way for us. If The Empire…”
You cut him off, “The Empire can stuff it for all I care, Rex. I want to help you. What you’re doing here is important. I might not be a soldier but I know I can still help you.”
“If something happened to you…” He started, his insides freezing at just the thought alone. If anything ever happened to you on his watch he didn’t know how he would live with himself. He had already lost so much. But he knew from the determined look in your eyes that he was fighting a losing battle.
You stopped him again, this time with your hand as you reached out to grab his own. It had the intended effect, shutting him up completely as his gaze flicked between your face and your joint hands.
“It’s worth the risk, Rex,” you said as you gave his hand a reassuring squeeze, “Please, let me help.”
He let out a weary sigh, “Alright," He might be clueless about a lot of things when it came to you but he knew when to admit defeat.
You smiled up at him brightly, fingers still interlaced with his own, “Thank you. It looks like you're stuck with me after all Captain,” Rex couldn’t help but smile at the comment. It was a throwback to better days when you used to gripe about always being assigned to the 501st for missions. You still weren't aware that he had been the one specifically requesting for your assignments.
"There are far worse problems to have,” he teased softly, “and just Rex is fine. I’m really not a Captain anymore.”
“Old habits die hard, Rex,” you replied with a shrug, “I should head back to the garage though. I’ll swing back around later though and we can discuss logistics.”
Rex nodded, though he was suddenly very aware that you were still holding his hand. Noticing his gaze you smiled up at him and for the second time that week you were moving before he could make sense of it. Your lips were soft against his cheek, the feeling of them once again setting his insides on fire and making his pulse race beneath your skin. Too soon in his opinion, you pulled away from him. He watched you walk away, his eyes never leaving you as you left the garage. You gave him one final wave that he returned before you disappeared from sight. He could still feel the ghost of your lips against his skin as he stood there, completely lost in thought.
“So…” Rex didn’t even need to turn to know that Echo was suddenly standing beside him.
“Don’t even start,” Rex grumbled, turning towards him and levelling a glare at him, “You and I are going to have to have a talk about maintaining secrecy.”
“Sir yessir,” Echo chuckled, knowing Rex’s words were all bluster. He gave him a mock salute with his scomp before he wandered off, leaving Rex alone with his thoughts. He really should move, he had a lot of work to do but he had the feeling he wasn't going to be very effective for the rest of the day. Not unless he could convince himself that he wasn’t actively counting down the hours until he would see you again.

Prompt: “I’m sorry, I’m probably suffocating you.” (Cuddling)
The only reason I chose Rex is because hands down Fives would not care. He is a shameless cuddle bug. Rex worries.
Warnings: none, just fluffy domesticity with Rex.”
Cuddles (Rex x Reader)
The holo-reality show was honestly oretty boring and campy, but it was the only thing on that didn’t have to do with the war. You were tucked comfortably into Rex’s side, eyes dropping and lashes obscuring your view.
You tried to stifle a yawn, but to no avail as your lover caught it out of the corner of his eye.
Weariness laced Rex’s voice. “Ready to go to bed, Cyare?”
You sighed and stretched. “I think I’m going to fall asleep right here.”
A soft chuckle left him as he kissed your temple and stood up,striding towards the bedroom. You couldn’t help but gaze at him, stripped down to his blacks, muscles showing beautifully under the snug fabric.
You hauled yourself up and trotted behind him to change into your nightclothes as he climbed into bed, but only sat there, waiting for you. You knew exactly what he wanted.
With a slight smile gracing your lips, you slid in next to him and lay flat on your back. Once you were situated, he flopped down on top of you and wrapped his arms around your back. You giggled and ran a hand over his buzzed hair. He lifted his head from your chest and squinted to see your face in the dark.
“I’m sorry, I’m probably suffocating you.”
You smiled and shook your head. “I’m fine. Go to sleep.”
He faceplanted into your chest again and snuggled closer. Another giggle left your lips and he groaned ‘what’ without lifting his head.
“Just never thought that the hardcore captain of the 501st would be such a cuddler.”
“‘s rare.”
“Lucky me.” You cooed, pressing a kiss to the crown of his head.
“Lucky you.” He echoed as he drifted off.
You closed your eyes and held your beloved trooper close, ready to slip into the quiet night.

The Blonde Prince

Pairing: Prince!Rex x Mermaid!reader
Word count: 3,226
Tags/warnings: none
Summary: You're the princess of the seven seas and you've become obsessed with humans. Unfortunately, your mother, the queen, has long since forbidden mers to go up to the surface. Rex is a prince of Mandalore and today it's his birthday. His brothers thought it would be fun to plan a trip across the seas. You're both brought together when the royal ship passes above your kingdom.
--------------------------------------------------
"We aren't supposed to be this far from the palace."
You don't pay the young mermaid beside you much thought, as you inspect yet another odd human object. It's a long stick with glass either end, one end is narrow and the other is larger.
"Relax, Omega." You stare down the narrow end of the peculiar device and watch in awe, as it makes your surroundings seem closer than what they are. "Woah! How does that work?"
"Please!" Omega whines, clearly scared of being further away from the palace than usual. "My aunt will kill me, if she finds out!"
You roll your eyes at the mention of Nala Se, as you put the thing into your bag. Nala Se means well, but she's very strict on young Omega. The mer is only eight summers old and, for some reason, has imprinted on you since you first visited Nala Se's stall at the market.
"Who says she's going to find out?" You give her a mischievous grin, before swimming further out. Omega huffs from behind you and you smirk, as you catch a glimpse of her purple tail swimming towards you.
"Princess!" A voice calls out, making you halt and turn around. You find your royal bodyguard swimming up to you.
"Must you always spoil my fun?" You roll your eyes.
"Your mother has had the royal gaurd looking everywhere for you. You missed the ceremony." Your bodyguard, Corrin, tells you and you blanche at the news.
"I lost track of time." The ceremony is where all your relatives come together from across the seven seas to spend seven sunrises at the palace. It's partly a celebration of the royal family and partly just for the adults to discuss what's been happening across the seas.
"You have to come back, now, princess." Corrin tells you, but it's more like a plea for you to prevent your mother from punishing the gaurds.
"I guess, I don't have much of a choice." You sigh and Corrin gives you a sympathetic look. Your entire life is controlled by your mother. Just because she's the queen of the seven seas, she thinks she has the right to act like your life is her own. Omega and yourself wordlessly follow Corrin through the depths of the ocean.
+++
When you enter the palace hall, you're greeted by the sight of your entire family enjoying a feast at the long table. The gaurds stationed at the entrance announce your presence and everyone looks up at the sight of you. Most give you warm and welcoming smiles, while your mother gives you a pointed glare that she quickly covers up with a forced smile.
"My daughter, where have you been." Queen Satine innocently asks, knowing full well where you've been.
"I apologise for my absence. There was an incident with the royal gaurd that I wanted to see to myself." You lie easily, just to please your family.
"How noble." Your mother smiles, condescendingly. "Please, join us." She gestures to the long table and you take your place by your cousins. They soon indulge you in their conversations about the latest news, while eating bits and pieces of the mass of food that could feed the entire kingdom. Fish and other creatures have been brought from all across the seven seas, as gifts for everyone attending.
Your mind drifts slightly, while Myra, one of your cousins, starts talking about the pod of orcas her and her family had encountered on the way here. You do love your cousins. They're kind to you and always invite you to be involved in whatever they're doing. It's nice to have people around your age that live in the same conditions as you and complain about the same things. Since you're the only child of the queen, you don't get to express how you feel most of time and, admittedly, don't have alot of close friends.
The feast soon draws to a close and your extended family are finally allowed to do whatever they please, but most opt to go to their palace alcoves and rest. The mothers and fathers stay behind in the royal hall to discuss business.
You're one of the ones that decide to go to your alcove. You push a large stone infront of the entrance to give yourself privacy, before slumping down on a smooth large rock on the floor of your alcove. The bioluminescent coral and planets you have been growing bask the area in a light blue glow.
Your mother will make you stay at the palace for the next seven sunrises, just so she doesn't seem like an irresponsible mother by having you swim off to who knows where. You huff out a sigh and tuck your tail up to your chest, absentmindedly fidgeting with your fin. You always found your apperance to be a little odd. The human-like anatomy part of your body is perfectly ordinary among mers, but it's the colour of your scales and shape of your tail that you find to be a little abnormal.
Your mother's colours are gold and shimmer in the sunlight and her tail is built to be more regal and majestic, showing her beauty and her power. Mer that are royal by blood tend to have more sophisticated colours and tails, but yours are less so.
Your tail doesn't have the frilly embellishments of a creature like koi fish, it's more lean and your tail fin is sturdy and strong, unlike your mothers. Your scales are a pattern of white and dark blue, which do complement your features well, but it's a very ordinary combination of colours, in comparison to most royal scales. Then again, you have never met your father and your mother never wants to talk about him. Maybe your appearance is purely from him.
There's an old myth that dates back to the first ever mers that says the tail and scales of a mer are linked to their soulmate. The belief of soulmates has fizzled out through time among your people, but some of you still believe that there is a person made for everyone. You don't know what you think of the concept, but you'd like to believe that some day you'll find someone that clicks with you like the last piece of a puzzle.
You furrow your eyebrows, when you hear a dull thudding coming from outside. It's very distant and you doubt most would be able to hear it, but it's definitely there. The noise happens in random bursts that sometimes overlap each other. You swim over to the rock at the entrance to your cave and push it away, before quietly sneaking through the palace. You leave unnoticed and venture through the ocean, which is illuminating from some sort of lights from above.
You look up at the surface and see something huge cast a shadow over the area. The noise gets louder and louder, as you swim further and further upwards. Once you break through the water, you startle as the noise becomes incredibly loud and bits and pieces of something falls from the sky. It's hot, the polar opposite of the ocean. You watch as things sore up into the sky, before bursting apart into a million different pieces that are on fire. You force your gaze away from the scary, yet beautiful, sight and look forward at the massive ship sailing before you. Humans!

"Having fun, Rex?" A man slings his arm over his brother's shoulders, a bottle of whiskey in his other hand.
"Sure, Cody." The brother sips his bottle of beer. The pair are both dressed in royal suits, with a cape handing from one shoulder and off the shoulder sashes to match. Rex's cape is royal blue, while Cody's is orange. Even when they are celebrating, they have to do everything by the book. Although, Cody's suit has began to crinkle and slant in some place from him throwing his weight about. If he wasn't wearing what he is, you probably wouldn't even think he's a prince.
"Oh, come on, Rex! It's your birthday!" Wolffe comes up behind the both of them, his plain grey cape sweeping below him, and pats Rex's shoulder with alot more force than necessary, nearly making the blonde stumble over.
Before Rex can say anything in response, the three brothers become distracted by the sight of the crew suddenly singing an old sea shanty. Cody quickly joins in and walks over to where the crew have congregated, nearly loud enough to drown out the last few fireworks going off and Rex shakes his head, with a fond smile. The blonde arches a brow, when Wolffe, the brother known to be the most stern and stoic, starts singing aswell, which causes a few to laugh.
Wolffe drags Rex over to the rest of the crew and nudges his shoulder. Rex rolls his eyes, before joining in, unable to conceal his smile. "To boost the moral of the crew." Rex tells himself. Although, he's sure alot of them don't need any more boosts, as Fives', Jesse's and Hardcase's voices drown out everyone else.

The odd things flying up into the air have just stopped and you're trying to pull yourself up into one of the smaller boats on the side of the ship. Your mother would kill you, if she saw you now. For as long as you can remember, humans have been seen as dangerous beasts in your kingdom. No one is allowed to go up to the surface, by order of your mother. She thinks that just because there's one awful human it means they're all like that. Not all mer are horrible, so why should humans be? She doesn't understand. No one does.
You finally manage to pull your body into the small boat and peak inbetween the small holes in the hand railing on the side of the ship. You've never been this close to humans before. A few of them are using odd devices that make pleasant sounds, while others move around in rhythmic movements and some of them sing. Unlike mer singing, it's frankly terrible and out of tune, but they don't seem to care. They seem to find it amusing.
You observe the crowd. Most of them are wearing pretty shabby clothes that are well worn, but there are three men dressed in something more glamorous and regal. You tilt your head, as you observe the three laughing men. They share many identical features, so you assume that they are related in some way and their clothes indicate a higher rank of importance, maybe even royalty.
You startle, as a creature suddenly appears infront of you and you fall back into the bottom of the boat, with a dull thud. You tilt your head at the creature. It has a seemingly unnecessary amount of fur, it stands on four legs and has a thin long tail. It's face is mostly covered by the amount of fur, but it kind of reminds you of a seal.
You hesitantly reach and place your hand on the creatures head, surprised to find it soft. You jump back, when you hear the thudding sound of footsteps getting closer to your hiding spot. Someone grabs the creature and guides it back to the middle of the ship.
"Can't believe Waxer and Boil stowed away that damm dog."
Your breath catches in your throat, as the blonde man in the regal clothes leans over the railing. If he were to look down, he'd instantly see you hiding in the boat. You push yourself agaisnt the bottom of the boat as much as you can, in an attempt to try and hide yourself in the shadows.
You can't help but observe what you can see of the man. His hair is buzzed and his skinned is naturally tanned. He has a strong jawline and dark brown eyes. He's beautiful. For a human anyway...
You flinch, as some kind of liquid lands on your cheek. Then, slowly water starts falling the sky in small droplets. You notice the blonde looking upwards and an uneasy expression takes over his features. Within seconds, tons of water is crashing down and there's the distant sound of thunder drawing closer.
"Storm coming in fast! All hands on deck!" The blonde marches over to his crew and they quickly stand to attention. You take this as your signal to leave and dive back into the sea below.
+++
The men instantly sober up and race around the ship to tie down the sails, while rain continues to batter down and thunder and lightning draw closer. Within seconds, everyone is soaked to the bone. Fierce waves wash over the deck.
Rex notices that no one is at the wheel and, while his brothers are yelling orders, he races up the stairs to grab on to it. The wheel fights agaisnt him, as the current throws the ship in all sorts of directions, but the prince manages to keep it relatively still.
The ship lurches upwards, with the movement of a particularly tall wave, before crashing back downwards. Rex's eyes widen at the sight of jagged rocks spiking out the water. He spins the wheel to the side, as fast as he can, but it's no use. They inevitably collide with the rocks and the ship tips sideways. The crew yell, as they cling onto whatever they can to prevent being thrown into the dark water. Eventually, the ship evens back out and is longer tipped sideways, but the front of the ship is still embedded in the spiked rocks.
A lantern must have smashed onto the floor, because the ship is soon engulfed in flames. Rex races back to the main deck.
"Life boats! Abandon ship!" The blonde hollers over the sound of the harsh rain.
"Abandon ship!" Wolffe and Cody repeat his words. The crew barely hesitate to leap over the railing and into the depths below. They quickly loosen the ropes that are holding the life boats on the side of the ship and they splash into the water. They help each other out of the freezing water and into the boats.
The three princes wait to make sure everyone is off the ship, before going to jump out aswell. Suddenly, there's the sound of barking from the other side of the ship. That damn dog.
"Rex!" Cody urges his brother to jump.
"Go! I'm right behind you!" Rex shouts back, before running off through the flames. Wolffe and Cody don't get a chance to protest, as a particularly strong wave knocks them off their balance and over the side of the ship.
The blonde flinches back, when the fire on the stairs roars and grows. He shakes his head to try and tries to give himself confidence, before swiftly running up the stairs, wincing as the flames burn his clothes.
"I'm never letting Waxer and Boil on a ship again." Rex mutters to himself, while he picks up the dog and drops him over the side.
+++
You feel so useless, watching the events play out before you from the shadows, not being able to help. You observe the blonde man chuck the creature over the side of the ship and you swiftly submerge yourself back into the water. The creature isn't able to swim well with the current and you sneak underneath to guide the creature to one of the boats, where it's quickly pulled on board by the humans.
"Rex!" Both of the men in regal clothes yell and you turn back to face the ship, watching how the blonde goes to jump, but the ship suddenly lurches onto it's opposite side, flinging the man across the deck and presumably into the depths below.
You swim underneath the ship and scan the area for any sign of the blonde. Then, a flash of blue catches your eye and you see the human sinking lower and lower. You race downwards and wraps your arms securely across his chest, before swimming back up to the surface. You have it so his head is resting on your shoulder, to keep him from being completely submerged. His body remains lax, but you can vaguely hear the sound of his breathing and the puffs of air agaisnt your face.
He's alive.
You just saved a human's life and you pray to the sea Gods that your mother never finds out.
+++
It's been a long night. The storm eventually settled out and the sea became tame once again. Swimming while carrying another being that can't breath under water proved to be immensely difficult, but you couldn't just let him drown. You swam for hours in the direction that is known to have a human kingdom.
You drag the body of the human across the beach and settle him on the sand. The burning feeling of the hot sand combined with the sun rays themselves is almost unbearable, but you grit your teeth and try to ignore it. You blanche at the sight of the human's chest no longer rising up and down. When was the last time you heard him breathing?
You lay your head agaisnt his chest and hear a very faint beating. You raise your hands to his chest and shake him, hoping to do something. Your worries continue to grow, until the blonde coughs up some of the sea water from his lungs. You sigh in relief and have to resist from resting agaisnt him. You haven't slept at all.
You tilt your head, as you observe the man. Humans are so different, yet so similar at the same time. A pained expression takes over his features and you place your hand on the side of his face. You think back to how your nanny had soothed you as child. She used to sing this song that always seemed to make you feel safe. So, that's exactly what you do. You sing.
Mer voices are naturally more beautiful than that of humans. Mers even have the abilities to reach notes that humans can't. Music and singing is a big part of mer culture, but humans twisted this into to some terrible myth about mers leading sailors to their death through their captivating voices. In reality, humans were probably just bad at sailing at that time.
Your voice wavers, when you see the blonde's eyes slowly flicker open. You stop singing all together, as you hear yelling coming from the distant cliffs at the far end of the beach. Your head perks up and you barely make out the sight of a pack of humans running down the cliffs. You pull away from the human and make quick work of gliding back out into the sea.
+++
"Rex!" Cody and Wolffe run towards the body of their brother and sit down next to him.
"You're going to be alright, Rex." Wolffe assures the blonde, after noticing he's conscious.
Rex isn't paying attention to any of them. Instead, his mind drifts to the vague image of a beautiful woman leaning over him and singing a tune he's never heard the likes of before. It feels like the song has cast some sort of spell over him.
"The woman..." Rex doesn't get to dwell on it much longer, since he falls into a deep slumber...

*dances in badly* FROSTYYYY! I'm finally regaining energy, which means finally regaining some kind of ideas for fics.
Of course, I'm going to request f!reader x Rex (was there ever a doubt? 😅😅) where it's possibly coming up to life day (my brain is desperate to skip autumn nejjejririejjwjwhw), or it's just cold and snowy, and they're both soing a scouting mission but get cut off from the main group, so have to find safety (cave, abandoned building, etc etc). But it's cold, so there's snuggling close together to stay warm.
Established relationship or this being a confession piece is up to you! I'm all for it being super soft and fluffy, but if you want to add a little small dash of rex having an arm or leg boo boo that gets a bacta patch on is up to you 💞💞💞💞💞💞

Lost on Life Day [Captain Rex x Fem!Reader]
Warnings and Information: While scouting an uncharted planet to patch up some outdated intel, you and Captain Rex end up taking shelter from a growing snow-storm when a minor avalanche separates you from the rest of Torrent Company. Fortunately, no one has died. Unfortunately, several troopers, Rex among them, have been injured, and it will take time before help arrives. Will you be able to endure and weather the storm long enough for help to arrive? It would be a terribly tragic thing to die on a holiday of all days, after all… Second Person POV, undescribed, unnamed Fem!Reader. Reader’s job is (unofficially) a navigational (and/or signal) officer; currently in training. Confessional fic with brief moments of peril, anxiety, as well as minor/mild whump and angst. Injury and vague mentions of blood and other medical supplies such as autoinjectors. Reader is given parts of Rex’s cold weather gear out of selflessness/love. [Same thing, really.] Speculative armor functions. Narrative and stylistic use of italics. Minor use of Star Wars and real-world swearing. Some use of Mando’a. Reader is referred to as “kid” a handful of times, all in an affectionate/apologetic sense. “Little miss” is used once, playfully/sarcastically. Takes place on a fictionalized planet.

There was never a dull day when it came to working with the 501st Legion.
Whether it owed to their unconventional tactics, or if it was simply just the way things worked in the Grand Army of the Republic, this particular deployment seemed to get saddled with some of the more interesting and dangerous missions with an above-average frequency.
Perhaps a lot of that reasoning was rooted in the absolute bravery and unshakeable loyalty these men had not just to each other, but to the whole of the Republic.
This blue-brushed unit was led by an exemplary captain who bore the name Rex, crowned by a helmet that had been emblazoned with a Mandalorian symbol of honor - the Jaig eyes. As a member of the crew aboard the Jedi flagship—the Resolute— you have been given the means to befriend the captain and his men by nature of the ship’s forced proximity. And though the exact act of battle-borne bravery that earned him the right to carry such an esteemed mark remains obscured by mystery, you know with far more certainty that Captain Rex has been fighting since the very beginning of the Clone Wars.
When the planet of Geonosis became the war’s origin-point, he was among the first white-armored soldiers that had been deployed against Separatist forces. Rex has seen and led his men through a lot of excitement, both after and since the reorganization from a Battalion into the Legion they are today under Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker’s command.
It was rather befitting that the designation for the Venator-class Star Destroyer worked not only for one of the many, positive qualities of the Jedi Order, but for the intergalactic transport of this particular deployment of soldiers as well. They were all hard-fighting, admirable and courageous men.
Men that you greatly valued the friendship of; learning to be more comfortable in one another’s company when the war demands their attention, and even when it does not.
You initially think nothing of it when early this morning, in the pre-dawn hours, Captain Rex steps into the starport bridge where you are working alongside Admiral Yularen and the rest of the crew. He carries his modified helmet at his left side, leaving his face visible and free. An expression of focused professionalism is softened with a warm, patient smile as he draws nearer, seeing you diligently complete this morning’s work.
Recently, you had begun training in one of the Republic’s many programs to become a navigational officer. The captain encouraged you to ‘change course’ when he noticed that you were facing growing dissatisfaction in your current position, hoping it would inspire you to remain stationed here.
It’s hard to resist reflexively returning that smile, or to remember the usual phrases of formality as you turn to address him.
“Good morning, Captain.” Anticipating that he must have a message from General Skywalker or Commander Tano to give to Admiral Yularen, you offer to help him in case the matter is an urgent one after Rex echoes your greeting. “I’m afraid the admiral is a bit busy at the moment,” you say, speaking of the ship’s captain, “but I’d be happy to help you with whatever it is I can.”
Chuckling politely, Rex first expresses his surprise to hear you sound so… formal. “Starting to sound just like a deck officer already. But it’s funny that you ask how you can help when that’s exactly what I came to see you about.” When you give him a puzzled expression, yet nod for him to continue, he adds, “I have… a really big favor I wanted to ask of you.” His voice, often so coherent when issuing even the most chilling or unpleasant orders, is full of uncertain halting. Hesitation.
You assume that whatever he’s going to say, he understands he’s asking a lot of you. “Sure. What is it?” Making up the difference, there is no delay in seeking to determine what Rex’s big favor is.
Gently tossing a nod in the direction of one of the nav-tables, your friend signals for you to follow him so the two of you will be more out of the way. Shifting the helmet off his hip and onto the edge of one of these consoles, Rex frees up both of his hands so that he can speak to you. This way, both you and himself can speak and behave less like a soldier and a member of the crew, and more like friends. Foregoing the formality of titles and the like without worry for the eavesdropping presence of higher-ranking associates.
Trying to find the words to say, the captain takes a deep, quiet breath. It must be something serious on top of being a lot to ask.
“We- I understand that you’re not yet a navigational officer—officially speaking—but I thought it would be best to find all the help I could get. You’re still training; but Commander Tano believes you show great promise. I think she was even trying to suggest she could sense it,” Rex carefully explains, making a nod to common abilities Jedi utilized of and through the Force with an uncharacteristically timid expression.
“And, both from what I’ve heard as well as my trust in Commander Tano, I certainly believe her.”
Giving it considerate thought, you allow yourself time to process. Then, nodding slowly, you ask what the mission is.
“Okay… Well, that’s, uh, sweet of you and Commander Tano, and all, but… I guess what exactly do you need so much extra help for, Rex?”
“We’ve been asked to scout out a planet that it seems nobody can recognize, or name.”
It could prove to be a potentially dangerous mission, but it would—should—be far less dangerous than some of the other missions they’ve been assigned. The astrological body had been picked up by Republic scanners from one of the many fleets as it was passing by, and all of the data fields had returned with very sparse information. No known, recognizable name, peoples, or even local climate beyond an estimate this was an ice giant. They couldn’t even be certain there was even animal-life down there due to perpetual, shifting storms.
The only thing anyone has been able to confirm of the planet is its size: 7,010.08 kilometers, a bit oddly specific…
Speaking to you with the same amount of respect he would show any of his brothers, Captain Rex further explains, “I’d like you to join us as an extra set of eyes out there once we make it planetside. Situational awareness and communications will be crucial down there. I’m asking if you’ll join because you get along well with my men. They trust you. And I think we’ll need all the trust we can find.” General Skywalker and Commander Tano were busy with making preparations before all of you were due to exit hyperspace, but they had already provided the necessary permissions to Admiral Yularen and Captain Rex to temporarily add civilian crew under his command for the mission. At this point, it came down to your choice to join, or stay aboard the Resolute.
“Well, uh…”
The reasoning seems sound, but you’re not wholly sure about jumping to accept just yet. A chance for real field experience? That would be the kind of thing that would look incredible on your training record. (Especially if it was with the 501st!) But you needed to make sure you had good-fitting gear before anything was made official. If you needed to scramble to borrow something, you’d want some extra time to take care of that.
“I just need to check that I have all the necessary equipment, first.”
There are more than three rapid blinks in surprise. “You’ll-? You’re agreeing to join?” Rex asks, his voice brightening with hope.
You can’t help a friendly chuckle before correcting him.
“Well only if I either have or can borrow all the necessary gear. Won’t be any good to the team down there if I risk becoming half-frozen, now will I?”
“Would you like some help?” Rex kindly offers.
You graciously accept the captain’s offer, figuring it’s only fair. After all, you’re going to provide quite a lot of it once you’re on the planet’s surface, now aren’t you?
Once all of the appropriate gear has been collected, you and the rest of Torrent Company touch down on the unrecognized planet less than an hour later.
Together, you’re set to embark on the lengthy process of surveillance and charting the findings. Accepting Captain Rex’s help in finding everything you needed pays off the instant your boots crunch down into the fresh, wind-driven snow. Great galaxy and all her stars… It’s well below freezing down here. The low temperatures prove a great concern to the well-seasoned pilots—General Skywalker among them—with the gravest reserved for the landing gear and engines.
If it was necessary to make a hasty escape, they couldn’t very well do that when half of the most critical components were turned to ice. “Worse than I thought down here… Captain Rex - a word, please?” General Skywalker quickly asks to confer with Rex in order to shake out the last few details of his plan, who had been in the process of helping you properly fit the supply pack you were instructed to carry over the rest of the thick, cold-weather gear.
Though he seems regretful to leave you, Rex wastes no time answering. Duty calls. “Of course, General.” He summons the 501st’s medic to take over for him. “Kix, mind helping our good friend here for me?”
“Consider it done, captain.” Kix responds.
Taking over for his commanding officer, Kix finishes appropriately tightening the last shoulder strap. It needs to straddle that delicate knife’s-edge of ‘sturdy’ and ‘loose’; and who better than the man who you’ve heard has performed more than a few life-saving surgeries out in the battlefield if it’s not Captain Rex to finish what he’s started?
“How’s that feeling?” Kix asks after giving the other strap a final cinch. “Give it a wiggle for me, kid.”
Kid: It was one of the Clones’ most common terms of affection when it comes to who they care about; shared both among themselves and those they had grown close to.
Sure, it could be paired with a stinging insult on occasion, or used for a bit of mean-spirited teasing. But it had never been weaponized like that against you. “Kid” was used with less reservation and far more freely than the words the GAR had adopted into their speech from the language of Mando’a. When the moment called for more intimacy, more impact, these sons of Kamino called you ‘burc’ya’ - the Mandalorians’ word for friend. Your bonds with them were ‘burcyan’. The one applicable word they did not share with you was ‘vod’ika’ - though their reason for withholding it was understandable.
While half of its significance meant ‘close friend’, too often the Clones used it for the other half: sibling.
For that reason, it was a precious word to them. And precious few things truly belonged to them. You would be “kid” if it meant they could have something to hold on to, just between brothers.
“Fits great. Thanks, Kix. Appreciate all your help.”
Kix chuckles softly. “Wasn’t all me. But you’re welcome, kid. Excited to have you with us for this mission as one of our navigational officers.”
“Navigational officer in-training,” you’re somewhat firm to clarify. “It’s not official yet. I’m honored by Commander Tano’s level of trust in my training, and grateful that both she and General Skywalker signed off on the necessary data-work to give me permission to be here. But Captain Rex-”
“Thought it would be best to recruit all the people we can trust. I know.” Kix finishes on your behalf. “Sorry, kid; it’s not ideal to put together this plan without involving you first, but I’m afraid you’re the last one to find out about it.”
Seeing as what’s done is done, all you can offer is half a shrug. “No, not ideal. But oh well. Honestly, if it had come from someone other than Captain Rex, I don’t know that I’d’ve agreed to do it.” It’s not like you didn’t have the choice to say “no” either. While he strongly suggested he wanted you to, Rex did ask you if you would agree to join when he spoke to you on the starport bridge.
You were here by your own choice. It would be the responsibility of others to help make sure you would remain safe in the meantime.
“Snips, I’m going to stay behind with a few troops and the pilots to make sure our ships remain operational. I want you to take command of the operation and assist Captain Rex with making sure Admiral Yularen’s future navigational officer makes it back to the Resolute in one piece.” General Skywalker, addressing his padawan, speaks loud enough to be heard by everyone over the subarctic winds lazily snaking through the landing zone. A rather efficient way of signaling to the troops they’ll be on the move soon, quite honestly. “You should take Artoo so he can help her boost the signal through the planetary storms.”
Commander Tano accepts the altered assignment. “Understood, Master.” The silver and blue-plated astromech demonstrates his excitement by rocking side to side on his two primary legs, chirping and warbling in a high, rapid pitch. “I’ll make sure Artooie doesn’t get into too much trouble.”
“And Lieutenant Jesse,” Skywalker adds, scanning the surrounding company for the trooper in question. “I have an assignment for you, too.”
There’s some commotion near the back of the company before a clear, loud “Sir! On my way!” can be heard, the preceding rapid footfall announcing he’s hurrying forward to be properly addressed.
“Very good,” General Skywalker replies once Jesse has moved in-sight of him, “I’d like you to be our third point-of-contact in charge of her safety. Can I count on you to do that?”
Opposite to the Republic crest tattooed over the left part of his face, Jesse promises with a firm salute both him and Captain Rex can count on him for this assignment. A loyal soldier and patriot, not to mention one of the Legion’s oldest soldiers, the ARC trooper is someone in whom you have absolute trust. He’s fun-loving and possesses an adaptable sense of humor; but when push comes to shove Jesse’s among the first to shove back. Just like his captain.
You’re in good hands.
“That settles it then. Ahsoka, you and Torrent Company can set out whenever you’re ready.”
Officially assuming command, Commander Tano issues the necessary orders to button up the last of the landing and preparation procedures before anyone sets foot beyond the landing zone, where together you’ll begin heading up a ridge to the north-northeast, first thing.
“Carry only what’s necessary. We’ll make a plan once we have an idea of what we’re looking at from the ridge, so we won’t be deploying any speederbikes until then, understood?” Several soldiers around you reply in the affirmative, while you’re a little more unsure about a few things. What was considered necessary?
Everything you had seemed pretty necessary since it was supposed to help you communicate between Commander Tano’s team and General Skywalker, and the crew aboard the Resolute, if it was needed… Should you ask?
Maybe she could sense it, but Commander Tano was quick and sweet to assure you not to worry after asking a trooper to help with a particular task. “Here, Tiethis. Looks like they need you to do your thing.” He’s handed a rope and pointed in the direction of a couple of crates full of gear that will be left behind at the landing zone, where his brothers are struggling to keep it all in one place due to the persistent winds. “Hey,” the Togruta padawan greets you kindly once Tiethis trots off, “If it helps, you can lighten your pack by caching a few things between me, Captain Rex and Jesse, to start out with. I know this is your first field exercise and you must be nervous. But you’re gonna do great, I know it. The three of us will be here to help if you get stuck.”
You chance a light, disbelieving laugh. “Thanks; but I think you mean “when”, Commander Tano.” You’re training, bound to make mistakes.
She counters your pessimism with optimism. “Well, if or when you do, the three of us will still be there to help.” The promising reminder that you’re not going to be left to struggle by yourself is a comforting one.
No, you’re certainly not. Not under the captain’s watch.
Rather than take the entire company up to the ridge in order to put together a comprehensive plan of action, a small scouting party is created to get the lay of the land first before the whole company embarks anywhere by speederbike.
Marching up there by foot would be the easy part, seeing as that’s the first and only clear step to this plan. After that, it’s anyone’s guess: the Republic was unfortunately a little too vague on what exactly the 501st had been deployed here to look for. (And that was more than a little frustrating.) You would be joining them to perform a bit of land surveillance before plotting out any kind of path, or opening a com-line to General Skywalker to report visual findings.
And you’ve found what—right now—looks like a barren wasteland.
Below the ridge, the landscape is made up of wind, snow and ice. In the distance, tall, craggy mountain ranges jut out of the snowfields - ominous, gray dorsal fins cutting through an otherwise serene surface.
It’s a start. But you’re not sure you’re going to find more than that without retrieving some equipment from your pack. Maybe these shapes in the mid-ground obscured by snow-flurries will come into sharper focus with the borrowed pair of specs. A higher-end datapad than the one you own is added to your belt as you’ll be needing that next for a written sitrep.
“Don’t forget: explain what you see.” Captain Rex helpfully reminds you. “Once you get the scopes properly calibrated for snow-based environments, of course.” It’ll make it harder to see what’s out there otherwise.
Right, right… How do you do that?”
“I’ll help you with that, little miss.” Jesse offers. He fiddles with them for some time before declaring, “Here! Try that.”
While you surveilled, Rex and Commander Tano were going to talk over the next steps. Cook up ideas of what the Republic might have wanted them to look for. One brave soul breaks the weighted, nervous hush as you make a minor adjustment to the newly calibrated scopes. “What do you think they call this iceball?” the unmarked trooper asks. In an act of boredom or restlessness, he kicks his boot through the fresh-fallen powder as he speaks to the thus-far nebulous idea of potential inhabitants.
The 501st learned their lesson after Orto Plutonia and the Talz: never assume a planet is uninhabited.
Carefully looking out into the vast stretch of snowfields, you now see the shape in the mid-ground are tors. (That’s the name for a geographical feature of free-standing rock formations created by weathering and erosion.) You note they look a little taller than ordinary. Maybe too tall to be a recognizable structure like a hut or other architectural dwelling that would suggest civilization. And though it was a long shot, you find yourself disappointed that it wasn’t. There are no foot-tracks to be seen (that can be picked up by the scope), nor navigational markers - save those left by Republic forces behind you.
The instinct in your gut tells you this planet seems truly uninhabited. “I don’t think anyone calls it anything…” you murmur more to yourself than anyone in particular. “So far, the only thing I see down in the snowfield are a few spread-out tors. No plants, animals or people.”
Unless someone among you (who isn’t one of the Jedi) knows how to “talk” to whatever wildlife you find here, any name this planet may have once had will remain unknown until there is contact with native inhabitants. For now, the written report will have to include a few placeholders until you can come up with something better (or find someone who can give the company answers).
Expedition ICEBALL Carried out on the planet WHOKNOWS Led by Commander Ashoka Tano of the Jedi Order, and Captain Rex [CT-7567] of the Grand Army of the Republic
That’ll have to do. The scouting party shouldn’t keep the others waiting for too much longer.
Rex calls in the first report to General Skywalker so he can show you how it’s done for next time. Skywalker promises to help the men get the swoops and speeders ready by the time those who went to scout return; from the landing zone you’ll be heading north to investigate a point of interest near one of the distant mountain ranges you picked out with your scopes. It’ll prove safer to travel that way. Just somewhat inconvenient when it comes to securing a very vocal astromech on an improvised cargo rack on the back of someone’s CK-6 swoop or BARC speeder while covering greater distances.
Given the chance, you think R2D2 would try to race some of these shinnies to help them learn a little humility by leaving them in his dust. He’d also probably race the older soldiers just for the sake of fun. Little guy certainly has been keeping things entertaining and spirits high around here.
It'd be criminal not to mention how Artoo has proved he’s an invaluable resource to the company on this mission. Like he has many times before. On one of the many stops the company has made to check the surrounding area, the blue and white astromech scuttles off on his own for a time before coming back, whistling and beeping up a storm.
Bw-woop! Woop!
“Artoo? What’s going on, little guy?”
It looked like he’d just gone over a small hill, what could have happened to get him so worked up? Being careful not to stumble through the ankle-high snow, you make your way over. You could be wrong, but he sounds like he’s trying to get your attention specifically. This was as good a time as any to brush up on your Binary.
“You got something to show me?”
Scuttling around to nudge you from behind, Artoo urges you to crest this relatively non-descript hill with a surprising amount of eagerness, even for him.
Woo-WOO! Wheeee!
It won’t take being fluent in Droidspeak to understand this blue and white unit from the R2-series sounds pretty damn pleased with himself about finding this.
Gathered together in a shallow depression, there are maybe six dozen creatures of some kind. They’re small, and coated in thick, puffed wool. Antlered. This is the only wildlife you’ve seen on the surface thus-far. They look like they could be ruminants; when one bleats, the mouth reveals the grinding molar teeth found among herbivores.
“Artoo… Go get Rex and the commander. They’re gonna wanna see this.”
The whole damn company will want to see this. There’s life down here!
Comms become absolutely necessary if you have any hope of being heard over these forceful gales of wind and snow out in the open like this.
A voice comes in on the short-range channel. “Think there’s a farm somewhere?” The question largely receives a rippling of uncertain murmurs in reply, though there is one unmistakable complaint among it all.
“Not this again…”
You offer a laughing retort. “Just because there was a farm on Saleucami, doesn’t mean there’s a farm here, Jesse.” There’s another laugh when the ARC trooper looks over to you and performs a highly exaggerated shrug.
Rex had asked you to stay and watch from a distance as he, Jesse, and several brave troopers took as many pictures as they were safely able upon the young Jedi’s request. The captain would never order his men to do anything he himself would not do. As the nav officer in-training, Rex was not fond of the idea of you being involved, though you had asked if you could help.
“There’s no guarantee. They could just be wild.”
This earns you another shrug. Less exaggerated this time. “Can’t rule it out, though. Look how docile they are!” Jesse replies, referring again to the possibility of farms.
Farms would be an incredible clue of civilization. It’s one of the most solid markers in planetary exploration - proof that someone is being provided for, more than likely nearby.
“No,” you agree simply, “Can’t rule it out yet.”
Jesse did have a point. These creatures do seem relatively docile; none have shown the least bit of fear towards any of the troopers snapping stills around them. Maybe that means there is a farmer not far from here, someone who’s trained or gradually desensitized them to complete strangers.
But tame behavior and looking friendly—perhaps aside from the wide, branched horns—is not enough to guarantee that they are threatless and domesticated. These creatures, whatever they are, may genuinely be wild, potentially feral…
For that reason Kix stands just as watchfully beside you, using a medic’s trained and critical eye to give his brothers stern warnings to give these ruminants breathing room.
“Zipp, if you wanna be a pilot, your eyes need to be sharper than that. It keeps stamping its left hoof because you’re getting too close.”
“Sorry!” the rookie yelps, stumbling back. “I wanted to get a better look at the dirt in its wool…”
Almost a hundred heads turn in the trooper’s direction upon hearing the four-letter word.
Did Zipp just say he found dirt?
Over the open channel, Rex can be heard asking his soldier to repeat that several times, looking to be sure he heard correctly. Cautiously pinching a small amount out of the animal’s wool confirms this is, in fact, soil of an unknown composition. Where had the dirt come from? The company had been calling the planet by the nickname “Iceball” for good reason; there was no bare ground to be found, only ice and deep snow drifts.
“If our hooved friend here has dirt in its wool, then they must have come from someplace else…” Rex hypothesizes. “Maybe there’s more of them.”
When he lowers his rangefinder to search the horizon of this winterscape, the impression he’s looking for the wrong thing comes to you rather suddenly. He should be looking for something else.
Something lower than the horizon.
“Captain Rex! What about tracks?!” you call out to him on the channel. “We can follow tracks or where they’ve pushed through the snow back to where they came from!”
Impressed by your suggestion, Rex gives you a deserving mark of his respect.
Thrice, he knowingly taps the blue emblem of the jai’gaalar’s eyes adorning the top of his helmet. Like the ancient avian of Mandalore, Rex sees the big-picture stuff when it comes to this war against the Separatists. When it’s not literal, it’s in the abstract sense. Thinking. This is part of what makes a man like Rex a triple threat and why you admire the blue-brushed captain so much.
For his brains.
Before he summons Artoo, you are left to imagine if that special smile given to someone you care for is under Rex’s helmet when he surprises you with a compliment. The kind that’s fond, tender, and makes you feel warm inside. “I knew I requested the right person for this mission: we’d probably feel pretty lost without you here, kid… Come help us look for tracks before the wind covers them all, little guy!” Rex could just be saying that in order to be modest, but… something tells you he isn’t. His words sound like they are more than just genuine.
Apart from potentially covering the tracks, the wind brings concern of growing chill. Weather sensors in the second-generation Cold Assault armor worn by the men searching around the divot for prints trill out multiple, impatient warnings that temperatures are taking a slow, steady plunge. Best guess is a forming storm spotted from the gunships in the planet’s northern pole prior to landing has matured enough to start creeping further south.
If it fledged, then you’re all going to have to move quickly.
Current exploratory protocol dictates that so long as the duration of time that soldiers stay in-field does not exceed more-than-reasonable thresholds, Torrent Company and the remainder of the 501st aboard the Resolute are permitted to make as many expeditions as necessary in order to find their answers. The insulated gear dramatically increased a trooper’s tolerance for such extreme weather. The second gen of the HT-77 gear was better, and had seen great improvements that was worth the price increase from the 4,000 credits of the first.
But as the Clones had been told by their trainers, they couldn’t expect the ‘77 to work miracles.
If the weather becomes so severe, or the risk of injury to you or the soldiers becomes too great, then this exploration must be curtailed and everyone will be instructed to leave this iceball behind until it is safer.
Artoo makes his second incredible discovery of the day just when others vocalize their fear: maybe it’s too late to find anything, and the company should head back. Locating the creatures’ trail coming down from the north, he urges everyone to get back to the swoops with a garbled staccato of chirps and half-whistles. At six-dozen in number, the animals collectively cut a deep furrow through the snow. It would potentially be wide enough to use it like a makeshift road.
“Good find, Artooie! Let’s not waste any time!” Commander Tano instructs her men.
Tano leading the way, every bike races down the animal-made path to a mountain range with an unusual crescent-like shape.
There in the deep belly of the curve, a cave’s yawning mouth awaits the explorers. Evidence of the same cloven hoofprints belonging to the ruminants can be found in abundance, here. While it must be safe enough for them to live inside—judging by the odor alone from standing outside—there are still many potential dangers to be found in any given cave system.
So you think it would be best to call in another sitrep before anyone sets foot inside.
This would end up being the last sitrep you make; the signal is thready even with Artoo boosting it for you.
“General Skywalker? This is the nav officer with Torrent Company.”
“I read you; go ahead.” the Jedi Knight responds.
“Your resourceful little astromech found some kind of creature out here. Large group of them. Some kind of small herbivore. We followed their tracks back to a cave. It’s in the middle of one of the north…west mountain ranges relative to your position at the landing sight. Just disembarked our speeders, sir.”
There’s a contemplative hum. “So you haven’t explored it, then. But I’m guessing the company is getting ready to.”
Commander Tano and Captain Rex, who had just conducted a short deliberation, have reached a decision. Flashing a thumbs up, everyone is given the answer that they’ll be proceeding inside shortly once the bikes have been dealt with.
“Affirmative, General.”
“Understood. Tell Commander Tano and the captain that I trust their judgement to keep everyone safe. Thank you for checking in.”
You promise to honor this request and sign off before the signal gets lost completely. Now full of worry and uncertainty, you turn again to your friend and ask in a fraught tone what the plan to explore the cave is. If Rex and Commander Tano don’t have one, the hope is they’re working on one… You and many of the rookies who had been listening in would really feel better knowing there’s a plan to deal with something Wampa-like living in the cave system, at the very least.
“What are we going to do, Rex?”
With a comforting hand on your shoulder, he says, “Everyone’s going to stick together. We’ll pool half of our rope supply to mark our route, to start with, and use it as a guideline.” Beginning with the rope from Commander Tano’s pack, Rex hands Jesse a few tools to start from the mouth of the cave. Given several pitons and a hammer, the rope will be secured to the cave’s walls or floor.
A tube of concentrated colorant is also offered in the shade ‘GLARE RED’ - the GAR uses this stuff as a visual aid to mark important items. It behaves more like a paste than paint, and as the name kind of implies it shows up as a visual glare in most optics equipment. It works just as well with the naked eye; such a stark red is rather impossible to miss.
“This will keep us from getting lost. And I’ll be right there the entire time.” Rex promises you.
So long as one one’s blasters froze to the inside of their holsters, you should have nothing to worry about.
Moving as one group, exploring the cave and its rootlike system of passageways is done one cautious step at a time.
Somewhere after the thirtieth iteration of “Piton, rope, color.” carried out every fifteen feet you’ve ventured through the mountain, you began losing track of time. The direction you seemed to be facing. Now, you’ve lost complete sense of both. With each light source building off of another’s radius, much of the passageways you’ve walked through have been well-lit. That serves as a great comfort; the blooming sense of trepidation knocking your heart against your ribcage lessening the better you can see.
No matter what may be skulking around in the dark, other than Artoo bravely scouting ahead, Rex is never more than half a step away from you the entire time.
Walking beside you with his hand on your shoulder once more, nowhere in the galaxy feels safer than this.
Following R2D2, Commander Tano walks further ahead than the rest of the company. The yellow-green blade of her activated shoto lightsaber bathes the walls of the passageway in a slightly eerie light, something that makes the medic’s cryptic observation all the more disturbing. “What the- Commander Tano?” Kix calls in a voice hedged by discomfort, “Take a closer look at the sides of the passage walls. Doesn’t that seem a little… unnaturally formed? They look too smooth; almost like the tunnel is man-made.” The Jedi’s attention drawn, Kix demonstrates his finding voluntarily. Sweeping his hand along the wall, he locates very few spots that have a rougher texture than the rest of it.
“Maybe it’s an old magma tunnel, or something?” someone suggests.
Kix shakes his head, uncertain. “No. No, I don’t think so, vod...” He looks behind the expedition team down the passage they’ve already explored, murmuring. “I think the tunnel’s width is too uniform to be natural.”
Unable to confirm any explanation for the time being, the 501st agrees to continue on lest they begin to lose their nerve and folks start to get that ‘eopie in the headlights’ look about them. (Perhaps you, most of all.) First, though, everyone takes one calming, centering breath to negate the surging anxiety they feel. Steady heads and grounded nerves will provide the best protection against the unknown, the unseen, and the unexplained. Your trust in one another must be absolute, here. All should have faith in their brothers, their friends, to rise to the occasion and have their six in times of peril and need.
There must be five more repetitions of “Piton, rope, color…” before Torrent comes upon a large, inner chamber close to the heart of the mountain.
Here, soldiers find a few items of interest yet not quite of note.
Shed antlers are strewn throughout. Many are small. Perhaps a younger buck’s de-antlering at the conclusion of the year’s mating season, or an unlucky yearling who did not see the end of the revolutionary cycle. Some are larger. These are brittle; potentially due to age, deficiency, or lack of preservation against the cold.
Jesse nabs one set - small, still attached to a skull by the pedicles. There’s a smattering of material with a soft “mossy” appearance peeling from the calcified bone that makes several shinies groan uneasily. You can visualize the disgust under their helmets from the way it exudes in their voice.
“What are you doing with that…?”
“Collecting something for the vode in Analysis.” the ARC trooper replies matter-of-factly.
“I-Is that a good idea?”
Jesse shrugs. “Don’t see why not.” If he’s told to return or ditch them later, he will.
“Where are you gonna carry it? That won’t fit in your pack.”
Kix is requested for assistance. Once the medic has gotten a series of pictures of how the antlers connect to the skull, Jesse snaps the skeletal remains apart with a few swift motions. “Just the antlers should be enough.” he concludes decidedly. The sickening kra-chik! of each antler coming loose makes one rookie gag.
Artoo warbles with concern, scuttling to the trooper as fast as he can when they double over.
Woo-wooh?
“I’m okay, little guy. Eeugh… It just sounds like breaking plastoid.”
Hooo…
Torrent continues to explore this chamber for a few minutes more. No stone has been left unturned before the company proceeds through a tunnel found in a recession of the southern wall. The behavior of this slightly narrower tunnel differs from those prior - you climb in an endless, upward spiral, altitude alarms chirping all the while. Just before the spiral ends, the sound of high wind can be heard before this passage connects with another open space you predict is just below the summit.
Everyone finds themselves in one final, upper chamber with a pair of naturally formed “windows” in the mountain rock to explain where the sound comes from. These sizable exposure-points have allowed a significant amount of snow to accumulate within, making it colder than the rest of the cave system previously explored.
And here, you find proof of what you’ve been looking for at long last.
Carved into the chamber wall is a series of messages kept safe and sheltered against the relentless gales and freezing of the elements. All of them have been written entirely in Domabesh, curiously; this creates a buzz amongst the Clones with linguistics training as they set to work on transcribing these for the mission reports.
You feel the palpable high in everyone’s spirits now that there is evidence of life somewhere on this planet. Life that’s been here for a long time! This script has existed for at least a thousand years. Likely more. It may have potentially less prevalence than Aurebesh throughout the galaxy, but it’s not quite so forgotten that making heads or tails of the lettering will be a fruitless task.
The elation sours before long, however... A soldier by the name of Chatterbox postulates that these messages may very well be ones of woe when Captain Rex asks what the messages say.
“I’m not positive if it’s an earlier form or off-shoot of Domabesh yet, sir, but… I don’t think we’re going to find anyone here.”
“What makes you say that, Chatter?”
“The messages are all warnings, Captain. This one is a kind of farewell.”
Chatterbox shares what he’s pieced together of an initial transcript with the company, and hearts grow heavy with unease as he reads.
We humble, surviving people of Dethellum, leave a short series of accounts so that all this planet may know this is no habitable world. We have sought other planets after the Sky’s Great Shaking dis-anchored our beloved home from its place in the galaxy and flung us out among foreign stars. For a time our people lived by burrow and cave, but there were too few for our vast number when the Lasting Hibernation bore down on us. We lost many. In desperation we made great scores in the Most Sacred Bow in hopes our stars would show us more favor. But it was not to be. We leave by star-boat. May the Great Weaving guide us to greener worlds. If you have found our parting message, we implore you do the same. None will be here to bury you. This world is lost: do not allow Dethellum to take your life along with it.
While nearly sick with dread, you cannot recall ever hearing of a planet by this name. Nor can anyone, perhaps other than Commander Tano.
Recognizing something from her lessons at the Jedi Temple, the Togruta asks to borrow Chatter’s device and highlights a selection of words. “Could the ‘Great Shaking’ be the Legacy Run disaster…? That was, er, 7745 by the Coruscant Reckoning Calendar?” Commander Tano’s pause as she reads something is brief, but heavy. “For more than two centuries and thirty years… The Republic and Order assumed this planet was completely destroyed by the Run’s near-collision with another ship. There was so much debris ejected from hyperspace, so many anomalies. But it’s… still here.” Many troopers have questions about the bewilderment and awe in their commander’s voice, but they will have to wait.
“We should keep looking… See what the other inscriptions say.”
Every last one is full of despair. Laments that their most frost-resistance crops could no longer grow. Sorrow that the last “fourtusk” had been slain and eaten. Great grievings that become too distressing to read any longer. Dethellum had become another victim to the Emergences, a name given to those further disasters in the aftermath of the Legacy Run tearing itself to pieces when the ship’s age caught up with it. They had probably become one of many civilizations that were just… wiped out.
Apart from Dethellum’s accounts of woes, Torrent does find more items left behind by its people that suggest a potential connection to the ancestral heritage of another member of the Order (one that General Skywalker would need to confirm), and acknowledgement of the Force and its wielders.
Three stone slabs that have been arranged to make a triptych have been found and dug out of the snow. Each sport rudimentary depictions of people with long hair and bright, yellow eyes. Among these, figures in long, hooded clothing stand opposite one another, a series of thin rectangles used to convey crossed blades.
One blade had been painted blue. The other, red.
It seems the concept of the Jedi—and a… precursor to the Sith?—was familiar to them.
“Do you think they found another planet like they hoped? Still live somewhere, out in the galaxy?” Jesse wonders aloud, gingerly tracing the grooves and lines in the stone.
“Can’t say for certain. But I’m betting there’s a decent chance. Get a few more stills, and then we should be on our way.” Captain Rex advises, looking to the northern pole of this frozen astrological body from one of the mountain’s natural windows. “Storm seems to be growing in strength…” Rounding his shoulders, he symbolically shakes the sense, the worry, of danger creeping on the horizon off of himself.
Right now he needs to be level-headed; sitting and fretting is something the company doesn’t have time to afford if his instinct is to be believed. The soldiers that are charged with securing the samples in their personal packs should be offered help first. Ahsoka expressed that it would be important that the utmost care should be used to insure any located artifacts made it back to the Resolute in as close to one piece as possible. Something Rex certainly agreed with.
Once he’s finished with them, Rex moves to check in on you. You’re knelt in the snow, looking for a way to stash something in your bag for the return trip. Torrent’s been advised they’ll need to move fast, so everything that isn’t critical to navigation is best stowed away.
“Can I give you a hand with that?”
“I’d love that,” you answer with a grateful smile. “Packing gets trickier the second time around, somehow.”
Rex shares a hearty chuckle with you. “That it does. And how are you holding up?”
“Good; just eager to get back to the Resolute.”
The snow gear was doing an excellent job of keeping you warm, but you could really go for something warm to eat or drink right about now. And a thick blanket of some kind to burrow under until Dethellum’s chill had been forgotten. And a hot water soak in your personal quarter’s refresher.
You’d decide on what to do first once you got back to the gunships. Right now, you need to be more focused on not tripping over something while following the way back through the mountain using the rope left behind earlier. Jesse and the other ARC troopers collect the rope as the company makes its way back outside, seeing no sense to leave it behind.
“What if the Republic plans to make other trips to Dethellum and explore the same mountain we did? Wouldn’t it help them find that chamber near the top?”
Your confusion is reasonable, in his opinion, but Jesse has his own rationale for undoing the rope and piton system.
“It would! But having this rope would be a good idea in case of an emergency.”
Whatever kind of emergency would necessitate the use of this much rope is not something you wish to think about, so you utter a short “Oh, okay…” sort of phrase and turn your focus on helping the company round up the bikes. They had been left not too far from the cave entrance outside, though some of the speeders that had not been equipped with landing skis had managed to drift a little ways off.
Something that would have a massive domino effect on what was to come when the mountain began to thunder.
A distant crackle and rumble starts from the very peak. A terrible sense of dread comes over the captain—the hair on the back of his neck standing on end—as the sound carries downhill, intensifying. His armor’s early warning system bleats panickedly in his ears. Then whoops. Finally, wails.
This great noise is not from the storm. It's from something started by the storm.
And you’re all sitting mynocks down here.
Barreling down the mountainside is a lethal wall of snow, rock and debris, pressing down on all of Torrent Company.
But most importantly: you.
Rex throws open the comm channel and wastes no time; there is precious little of it to make his most crucial set of orders on this mission.
“Everyone, double-up on the bikes! It’s an avalanche – get out of the path!!”
Plunging into panic, you throw yourself into the rider’s saddle of the nearest swoop and punch the throttle forward. Running on base instincts, you’re fleeing southeast rather than following the flash-training on natural disasters. Escaping an avalanche means traveling in a direct, sideways route whenever possible if you’re not already caught up in one.
Fortunately Rex is not far behind on his own speeder. He’s able to catch up with you quickly, signalling for you to follow.
Unbeknownst to you, Captain Rex is the only one who followed after you in the commotion.
When disaster strikes, there’s no one there to help you.
Everything happened so fast.
Whether taken by surprise or dangerously distracted, two shouts of great alarm are made when Rex is suddenly launched forward, thrown from the speeder above the controls.
He lands a short distance ahead, and some part of his armor makes that sickening KAR-CHIK! on impact.
“REX!”
Punching the accelerator, your heart yo-yos between your throat and knees as you race for him. The two of you are still inside the avalanche's path, within its outer skirts, so you fervently pray to any galactic deity out there that he might be alive. To the Force itself.
Crumpled but stirring in the snow, you dig Rex out and lift him into the saddle of your speeder at record speed. Owing to hysterical strength, you escape the snow-slide’s torrential course in the nick of time as you ride ahead in search of shelter.
Reaching the eastern end of the ‘Sacred Bow’ mountain range, you locate a small cave in the foothills. After disembarking and finding nothing inside, you take the time you didn’t have before to carefully ease Rex off the speeder and keep him upright as you help him inside. With the winds blowing their hardest since your arrival and the fear of a second or even third avalanche, this is going to be your best bet for shelter.
The pain that comes with such dramatic, repeated exertions of energy begins settling in as you carefully prop the wounded cobalt captain against a part of the wall deeper in. You’ll have to push through it for now. Rex needs you more.
You hope to coax a few words out of him beyond pained groans. “Rex? Oh Force… Please talk to me. Just let me know you’re not dead, or something.” Momentarily stripped of their gloves, your hands carefully feel up his armor for fracturing or other damage to the plastoid. Panic stings through you when nothing is found on the first pass and Rex remains too still for your liking. “Please, Rex - I don’t know if you’re hurt, or-!”
“Been in… w-worse shape…” he bites out at last. It takes great effort to form every word, he’ll have to be forgiven for the lack of enunciation and the heavy slurring of his voice. “Are… You… okay?”
You’re relieved and stunned (and in pain) all at once. No. No, you’re really not okay, truthfully. Heart become a wild dove, you’re struggling to remain calm in a critical situation where you cannot afford to lose composure. You try to brush it off and insist to him that you need to make sure he is okay before you call Torrent Company for help, but Rex won’t let it go. “Are you okay?” he repeats, speaking with more force this time.
You’ve read enough holo-novels and mags to recognize what’s happening here: Rex is more concerned about you than himself. If you tell him that you’re fine—or at least in better shape than him—he’ll stop resisting your efforts to look over him. Rex’ll allow himself to drop his vigilance, his worrying and protective nature, and relinquish himself to your care.
You suck in a shaky breath. “I’m cold, and scared, and worried about the others. But I’m mostly okay... S-somehow.” Until you make contact with the company, there’s no telling how many troopers have been hurt. Or worse. Musculature injuries will be chump change compared to the loss of Rex’s men.
“Good…” comes the soft, relieved sigh. “Good.”
“We should try to reach the others once I take care of your injuries,” you say. Carefully, you resume patting down his armor for damage, even carefully removing his helmet since you’re sheltered from the wind’s reach. This is the first time his helmet has been removed since boarding the gunships and touching down on Dethellum. A moment that becomes so overwhelming by how much quiet pain you find in that warm, deep tan of his handsome face.
You incorporate these “tells” into your assessment, repeatedly asking “How badly does it hurt?” as you carefully prod along.
Thick brows buckle and bunch together when you’ve brushed over developing bruises. A sharp wince as each arm is examined. Whiskey-dark eyes flaring in alarm before you determine the large patch of red staining his thigh armor comes from a punctured tube of GLARE, not a nicked artery. The short, labored breath when you find an injury on his upper back that he couldn’t tell was there.
Not without you removing the back section of his armor, lifting part of his thermal bodysuit away, and pressing down on it with a glob of bacta and a glue-stat that you’ve pulled from the medkit in your supply-pack.
“You really don’t feel that?”
“No, I don’t,” Rex admits in another pant, “probably from the adrenaline.” Or from the throw. Or how he landed. Or the cold. There were probably a dozen rational explanations for why he couldn’t. But those mattered less to him than making sure you had enough material to take care of yourself, too.
Having lost his own pack, likely when he was thrown from the speeder, Rex refuses to take the singular dose of painkiller in your autoinjector.
“No, cyare… Keep it for yourself. It’s your medicine.”
“W-what? Why?”
You’re not on Drongar; this isn’t a rare medicine like bota. Rex needs this now. The muscular pain you feel is growing more unpleasant, but you can wait. Typically his altruistic nature was downright admiral; hell, even attractive. Right now it only creates a surprising amount of guilt. Rex got hurt because of you.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t do that. I panicked and now you’re hurt, and now I-” You have to make this right. You have to put him at ease, and then find a way to get in touch with the others. There’s so much that has to be done to ease this guilt and give the two of you the best, fighting chance at survival. “I made such a mess…”
When he takes your hand, you know the captain is going to kindly—nobly—try to shoulder the blame instead.
Rex has a little more than that in mind, however.
“No, kid… I’m sorry I got you into this mess in the first place. I’m the one who asked you to join the ground crew. The one who made the call not to send you back to the Venator before the storm started getting worse… You shouldn’t be here. I care about you, and I put you in harm’s way.”
“What are you talking like that for? We’ve been friends a long time; of course I know you care about me.”
He shakes his head gently. That isn’t what he means.
“If you don’t already, you should know I mean I care about you in another sense…”
Oh no: he didn’t get hurt because of you. Rex got hurt for you. “I-I’m going to spoil the moment by asking if you’re freezing to death on me, talking like this, aren’t I?” Quickly easing him forward, you return the back plating and wrap him in the emergency blanket for good measure. A short dig through your pack finds an extra knitwear cap smooshed down at the bottom.
It’s pulled over the naturally blond, close-shaven curls of his hair before Rex can get another word in. “S’okay, cyar’ika…” he murmurs comfortingly. A thick-gloved hand reaches just high enough to cup your cold-stung face, his thumb brushing over the apple in your cheek. “You couldn’t possibly spoil anything… And I’m not going anywhere.” Rex promises tenderly.
Not when he has the General and the Republic to fight for. His brothers.
You.
You'll find a way to make it out of this together. He's sure of it.
It'll just take a little hope that someone is there to answer the emergency transponder once the device has been activated.
Bundled together under the emergency blanket, you and Rex have never been more grateful, or happy, than you are now to hear so many voices at once when the signal goes through.
Rookies and experienced soldiers alike speak at speeds that would put hyperspace to shame.
“It’sthecaptainonheremergencybeacon! They’rebothalivethanktheForce!”
Kix laughs apologetically, trying to move further away from the triumphant ruckus, and not for the first time. “Sorry, Captain! Jesse’s having a hell of a time settling them down. We’re just relieved to hear from you. You two were the last we needed to hear from after the snow slide!”
“The last?” Rex asks in worry. “Did we lose anyone?”
“No! I’m relieved to report we didn’t lose anyone, sir - everyone’s alive!” That news is more miraculous than a miracle. (Thank the stars. Thank the Force!) Knowing it’s nothing a long dip in the bacta tanks can’t fix for the brothers caught by the flow kept the medic’s spirits high while they worked with Skywalker’s astromech through the storm. Every available trooper was determined to locate the final two members of the company. And now they knew you were okay. “How’s the kid holding up?”
“I’m in better shape than the captain, Kix,” you reply, adding that it’s great to hear from him. “He’s injured, and shaking more than a nervous tooka; this sweet di’kut insisted on sharing a few parts of his armor to keep me warm. Scared me half to death because I thought it was paradoxical undressing at first.”
“How injured?”
An uneasy chuckle bubbles up out of you. “Can’t say for certain. I took care of what I could with what I have.” Better than nothing. You’re training to be a nav officer, not a medic. Basic and portions of emergency aid is all you’d be capable of without Kix on the comlink to walk you through a far more dire situation. “Should I check again for something I may have missed?”
Kix admires your willingness, but encourages you to holster it for the time being. “Wait on that for now. Focus on keeping sheltered, okay? Adjust the warming function so we have a better chance of finding you two nice and toasty.” He waits patiently for confirmation the advanced thermo-regulator sensors are sending more power to the heat-coils carefully strung through the plastoid armor split between the two of you. “Really couldn’t convince him to take turns?”
“He told me “Not a chance, cyar’ika”... So I compromised.”
It’s not difficult to imagine the smiles from his brothers when you hear Jesse join Kix on the comm.
“How sweet of you, captain!”
“Jesse…”
Ignoring the warning, the ARC trooper assures you they’ll find you before long. “We’ll get to you as fast as we can, kid. Just hang tight. Keep your beacon on.”
“Safely. Don’t forget safely, please.”
“Heh. You got it, ma’am. Jesse and Kix out.”
Now came the impatient agony of settling in to wait for rescue. Not knowing how long it would be before seeing the faces of friends and brothers. Or how long you would need to keep each other calm, warm, and safe. But at least it could start with setting aside the transponder and moving closer together. Once adjusted, you and Rex each pull your ends of the first aid blanket tighter around yourselves. Locking in whatever warmth you can now will nudge the odds in your favor.
You’ll be able to wait out until nightfall, if you have to.
Rex feels there’s more he has to tell you before there’s any planning for that, first. More he should’ve said when you had cleaned and bandaged up his final injuries of blood earlier. Speaking in a sorrowful tone that threatens to cleave your heart in two, he again apologizes for getting you into this mess.
“I’m so sorry it all happened like this, ner burc’ya…” He never meant for you to come in harm’s way like this. Never. Never in a million lightyears. Nor did he want to confess to you like this. Confessing something so important—so heartfelt and personal—in a horrible or dangerous situation was a scenario he had always hoped to avoid. “On today of all days, no less.”
“I don’t follow,” you confess softly. “What’s so special about today, Rex?”
“It’s Life Day.”
You stifle a gasp of surprise. Having been so preoccupied with your work aboard the Resolute and the training to become a proper navigational officer, you had lost track of the holidays and didn’t even notice. It takes a little clever reflection to add truthful sentiment to your apologetic explanation when Rex, curious, asks why.
“When every day I get to spend with you feels like Life Day, it’s hard to notice when the real deal comes around, Rex.”
With or without his brothers being included, it’s easy to lose track of time in his company. Hard to miss the way he makes you feel. Or ignore how much you care for him. About him. The way he helped you out of a few back scrapes when the Venator was under Separatist attack thrice in one standard week had just been the beginning. Now, you…
You love him, undeniably.
It’s for his brains, his brawn, and even his beauty, too. It’s for the Triple-B-Threat and so many other, innumerable reasons. Ones you would prefer not to share in such harsh conditions.
In the light of your own confession, Rex has another he feels would be appropriate to share.
“Well in that case… I got you a gift. I’d like to give it to you when we make it back.” When you ask if he really did, Rex answers with an unbelievably tender nod. “Can I tell you what it is, cyare?”
It may be a while before Jesse, Kix, and the others in Torrent find your beacon; trying to keep one another talking in the meantime would be the smartest idea. Not just for morale, but to ensure the other was fairly cognizant.
So you agree. “Mhm.”
“It’s a book. Chatterbox got into book-binding recently… Asked him if he wouldn’t mind helping me make something special for you.”
“Awh, Rex… You made me a book?”
His head bobs beside you, the movement small. “Finished it last night. Haven’t wrapped it yet.”
Putting together a hand-made book just for you is such a thoughtful gesture that you could practically swoon. “Kark the wrapping paper - I’d love it even if you gave it to me in a pillowcase!” you declare. You can feel Rex starting to chuckle before he quickly regrets it, spurring a new swell of pain.
“Oh no,” he says with a decided shake of his head, “you don’t want one of our pillowcases… Deserve far better than that. More than a book, even.”
“Rex-”
“Mesh’la… You deserve the whole galaxy. And someone who has the power to give it to you.”
This is no time for humility. You panicked, and your friend put his damn life on the line to keep you safe. Not because you’re one of his brothers. Or because you’re part of the company today. But because he loves you.
“I don’t want the whole galaxy, Rex.” Pulling him closer, cold-trembling lips crown his forehead with a row of kisses before finally locking his lips with his own. “I’d rather have you.” Such a tender declaration would ordinarily embolden the injured man now in your arms, but collective pains and freezing temperatures keep each of you from doing something a little more reckless. Maybe even sensual and passionate.
So he finally agrees to take the painkiller when you offer it again from your medkit. The combination of the puh-chunk! and hissed release has never sounded so good. Immediate relief ebbs over him when the pharmaceutical enters his system, drawing a gentle sigh out as the tension fades away.
“Practically a natural.” Maybe you should think about helping Kix, if you ever grow tired of being a nav officer.
You rebuke him with a gentle laugh. “Hush. It’s so simple a B1 could do it.” That may be giving them too much credit. It makes Rex smile, at least.
A welcome disturbance to the comfortable quiet fallen over you, the emergency beacon begins to ping in a steady rhythm. Someone has a lock on the signal and opened the one-way channel to communicate with you.
“Captain Rex, this is General Skywalker. We have a lock on your beacon and we’re approaching you now. Heard that you had a little more excitement than the others from Artoo. How’s our nav officer doing; is she okay?”
Hah. Figures there’d be a few details lost or omitted in just a few rounds of Holo-call.
Spirits high, Rex smiles as he picks up the transponder, “Good to hear your voice, General. It’s a helluva Life Day miracle that she’s largely unharmed! I took the worst of it; but I should live to fight another day.”
“It’s a Life Day miracle that you’re both still with us, Captain. We’ll have you picked up and taken back to the Resolute in no time.” the Jedi promises. “Skywalker out.”
It was hard to argue with that. A shame you’d be leaving before determining whether or not Dethellum possessed any sort of atmospheric light phenomenon like many other polar worlds, but…
What better Life Day gift could there be than to make it out alive of a perilous set of circumstances with the people you loved and cared for most?

You may not believe me, but this is the abridged version of LoLD! I'm an over-explainer + writer by nature, I'm afraid... But I hope you all enjoyed this fic! “My Family Is Elsewhere”
-
Rex would never abandon his brothers, or his friends in the republic. They had depended on him for so long and he also depended on him. But there was one person that he had to spare his heart for.
All his love and admiration belonged to you, his Riduur, wife, and lover.
You had met during the first few conflicts of Mandalore, your clan was one that split off from the rest but also resented the Death Watch and their actions. You often found yourself in the company of Duchess Satine, and put violence last which she appreciated.
Your clan was a bridge between the historic culture, and the neutrality of Mandalore that was kept now. You didn’t always agree with Satine, but you had to admire her.
You met Rex when separatists shot down his ship near your city on the other end of Mandalore. It wasn’t your city, more so your father’s who was the chief of your Clan… you remembered that day vividly.
-
“Jamie, Krys, grab your speeders and follow me, we will go inspect the crash for survivors. Keep your whistling birds at the ready in case they are hostiles.” You ordered, revving the speeder you were on before riding off in the direction of the crash, your fellow clan members following behind you.
Your silver and blue beskar armor shined brightly underneath the heat of the Mandalorian sun as you traversed across the desert. In Mandalorian history this planet used to be lush and covered in ocean and jungles, with mountain ranges. Now it was flat, with domed cities.
Soon you skidded your speeder to a stop, slowly getting off as you held one blaster in your hands, your other arm raised with your whistling birds primed and ready. Your fellow mandalorians soon stopped and joined you, and you began searching the wreckage.
“Split up, meet back outside if you don’t find anything.” You ordered, and went straight while Jamie went right and Kry’s went left.
You could tell this was a republic ship with the way you started seeing dead clones litter the hallways, some crushed from the crash impact, others shot with blasters or killed by explosions. You sighed as you checked each man's pulse before moving on to the main hanger.
It was silent, minus the occasional beep that came from the center console. But as you looked around you noticed a clone, wearing armor with blue details… and Jaig eyes on his helmet. You raised an eyebrow, kneeling down beside him as you slowly removed the helmet, staring down at the clone before you checked his pulse. He was alive.
“Okay clone… lets get you somewhere safe.” You whispered, placing the helmet back onto his head before lifting him up into your arms and then onto your shoulder.
You carried him out with no difficulty, seeing a few more clones who were alive with Jamie and Krys, some were up and walking, other’s unconscious on the speeders. “Captain!” One of the clones shouted as you placed the clone on your speeder.
“He is alive, unconscious but his pulse is strong.” You explained to the trooper who was checking over the Clone Captain. “I’ll need to examine him closer. Is there a camp or something?” The clone asked you, and you snickered. “We will take you to our city and you will be cared for.” You started as you got on your speeder.
Jamie and Kryt helped the others and soon they were speeding back to the city, entering the small dome and immediately heading to the hospital that had been set up within.
This dome wasn't as technologically advanced as Mandalore’s capital, it more so looked like Mos Espa on Tatooine but it did have a bar, some restaurants, the Hospital and then homes to fill in the rest of the space. It was a regular small city, but most of the inhabitants chose to embrace their roots.
Once the clones were situated in their hospital rooms, your father, the Chief had arrived, and you bowed your head before removing your helmet, holding it against your side. “Father.” You greeted, leading him through the hospital and to the wing where the clones were staying.
“These are all the survivors. Should we contact the Dutchess?” You asked, however your father shook his head. “No, we need not get Duchess Satine involved. Once their leader wakes up, establish communications with the republic senate to arrange transport. I do not want them here long.” Your father stated, and you nodded, watching as he walked away.
You walked over to the Captain, staring down at him for a moment before you looked over at his helmet, and at the Jaig eyes.
“Warrior.” You whispered, pulling up a seat by the bed. “Many battles you have won, more will follow. Stay strong” You murmured, placing your helmet on the ground beside you.
-
Rex stirred, a groan falling from his lips as some pain shot up through his ribs before turning to dull throbs as he sat up, looking around the room, seeing other injured clones in hospital beds, being tended to by nat-borns and… Mandalorians?
He heard a cough next to him, and so he turned his head, eyes widening as he locked eyes with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He glanced down, taking in the details of your armor. On your left chest piece you had a blue painted symbol of the Mythosaur, and on your right pauldron was your clan signet, forged in beskar.
He then noticed your helmet by your feet, seeing the symbol of the Jaig eyes above the visor, though they had a bit of a different design than his own. “Good afternoon, Captain.” you spoke up, and he tore his eyes away from your helmet, looking at you once again.
“R-rex, Captain Rex.” He greeted, looking down at his bandaged chest. “You had some internal bruising, but you’ll heal fine. Our Chief has asked me to help you establish communications with your Republic. So once your armor is brought over and once you're dressed, I will take you to the Manor, and we will contact the Republic.” You explained, grabbing your helmet off the ground, securing it on top of your head.
“Right… th-thank you.” Rex stammered, seeing you nod as you walked away.
It didn’t take long to get ahold of the Republic, obviously in a war so busy it would take a couple days to send a transport to pick up the clones, but in that time you had been spending lots of time with Rex and his boys despite your fathers warnings.
-
You had gotten so close to the Captain that when it was time for them to leave, you had almost begged for Rex to stay. But he had to leave and you understood. It of course didn’t stop you from keeping contact with him however, and when you got your hands on a ship you started traveling to Coruscant and started meeting up with Rex.
After a year you married the damn man. It was very secretive, only a select few people had attended, but of course Rex’s General found out not long after it had happened, and kept it a secret. But after Rex had become your Riddur you moved to Coruscant permanently, and took up bounty work for the Republic, not enlisting, but definitely helping where you could, hoping that what you did increased the odds of Rex coming home to you at night.
-
Tonight had been an especially hard night for you, you had gotten the message from some of your clan members that your father had passed, and since you were his only heir you had to return to Mandalore before that title was taken and what little freedom you had was taken by the death watch.
You had been crying when the door to your apartment opened, and Rex entered. He saw you slumped over, helmet on the coffee table with your armor on, which confused him. “Mesh’la?” Rex called out, and you spun to face him.
His heart broke when he saw the amount of tears streaming down your face and he immediately knelt down in front of you, placing one hand on your thigh while the other went up to your cheek, wiping the tears as they fell.
“What happened?” He asked, and through your sniffles you spoke up. “My father is dead… I must return home to claim the title.” You sobbed, leaning into your touch as he frowned. “Oh…” He trailed off, and you nodded, wiping your face with your gloved hand as you sighed. “I cannot let my legacy fall into the hands of the Death watch…” You stated, rising to your feet as Rex did.
Rex thought back to his last mission, and to what Cut had offered him, a place to stay. But Rex had said that he had to go, because he had a family waiting for him. He had you. And now you had to leave to protect your family too.
Rex nodded in understanding, pulling you into his arms as he kissed your forehead. “Go. I won’t stop you. But keep in contact with me, and if you need me i’m sure i can convince General Skywalker to take a detour to Mandalore.” He said, making you chuckle as you pulled away.
You pressed your forehead to his, sighing. “I’ll always have you in my heart, Riduur.” You muttered, pulling him into a gentle kiss. “I’ll contact you when I arrive in Mandalore.” You stated, grabbing your helmet and what clothes you had already packed.
You walked to the door, turning to look at your husband, offering him a warm smile. “I have a feeling i’ll be seeing you soon.” You stated.
And boy were you ever right.
“But that’s a story for another time, of to bed kiddos!” You exclaimed as you clapped your hands together, seeing your two children, twins, boy and a girl whine.
Your daughter had bright blonde hair, and striking blue eyes that much resembled her father, your son however, had a mix of you and a mix of their father, having your eyes and hair colour but his fathers skin tone.
As your kids ran off, you felt a pair of arms wrap around you, and you smiled warmly, tilting your head back as you spotted your husband, Rex, smiling down at you. “Regailing how we met hm?” He asked, pressing his lips to your temple as you chuckled. “Indeed, they asked so i told.” You stated, standing up and turning to face him, resting a hand on your very pregnant belly.
“They’re growing so fast, Riduur.” You sighed, leaning into rex as he hummed. “I know… and i have to leave again…” He trailed off, and you sighed. “I know… Echo and the other clones need you… just- stay alive baby, okay?” You asked, and Rex nodded, getting down to one knee as he pressed gentle kisses to your round stomach.
“I’ll be back to see this little one pop, i promise.” He stated, standing up and kissing you once more before placing his helmet on his head, walking to the door. “Tell Hunter and the others i said goodbye?” He asked, and you nodded. “See you soon, Riduur.” You waved, watching as he walked out of your home and closed the door.
You sighed again. Time to put your little family to sleep.
Your little warriors… the family Rex always came home too.

Forgive Me (Echo x Medic Reader) Part 19
Words: 2K Warnings: None - Does mention Clone Rebellion Pronouns used: She/Her - (Y/N) and (Y/L/N) also used
"Calm yourself, Echo," called Rex as he put the freighter he shared with the Arc Trooper and Gregor on autopilot. "Wolffe won't let anything happen to her, whether they're together or not," added the great captain, swiveling the pilot's chair around to face his companions, noticing Gregor seemed preoccupied with something.
"She's with him," confidently replied Gregor, throwing his feet on the dashboard as he leaned back and relaxed a little more, a grin appearing across his lips mere moments later. "Didn't you hear?" asked the Commando, not wording he'd recognize Snap's giggle anywhere, especially when he purposely wound up Wolffe.
"How do you know it was (Y/N) and not some civvie Wolffe picked up?" asked Echo, almost as if he assumed Wolffe was similar to Fives and Jesse, even Gregor himself, when it comes to the charm and ladies. His question only served to amuse Gregor, who loudly laughed while Rex shook his head as if trying to rid himself of unwanted mental images.
"Wolffe ..." started Rex with a sigh before stopping, almost as if he searched for the right words. "He doesn't trust those outside of his circle, especially civvies..." continued the great captain, recalling the times in 79's when Wolffe had been somewhat relaxed but still on guard. "After the judgment and fear he received because of his eye, he grew colder to outsiders," explained Rex, trying to word the explanation in the kindest ways possible, determined not to offend the Commander even if he wasn't there.
"Upon my return from The Void, I was assigned as her protector alongside Gruffles; I'd recognize her laughter anywhere," answered Gregor, once again nicknaming Wolffe, similar to how he'd nicknamed others around him based on their personality and his knowledge of them. "Plus, we have Cody's account; that has to count for something," he added, returning his gaze to the ordinary colors of hyperspace, almost welcoming the distraction despite knowing it wouldn't last long.
"You'll see her soon enough. I'm sure Snap will be just as thrilled to see you as you are for her," spoke Rex, changing the subject to the impending reunion once more, almost seeing the irony. The scenario was almost an exact repeat of before, except now it was just Rex himself and Gregor instead of Clone Force 99, General Skywalker, and Rex. Instead of returning to a military base of operations on Anaxes, Snap is within the ranks of the GAR, serving with the 501st. Now, she was touring the length of the galaxy with Wolffe, hiding from the empire and their unknown desires and motivations.
"I'll tell her about her family," voiced Gregor, seemingly lost in the swirls of hyperspace, although it was clear he was thinking of an impending reunion too. Rex and Echo glanced at each other, both still debating if it was a good idea to tell her Devika was the only family she truly had left. Octavius and Isolde had both been killed at the end of the war, and (Y/N)'s parents and other immediate family members had been killed not long after for one reason or another. Her parents vocally protested what happened at the Military Base. The others for trying to protect both Snap and Devika. "Good idea or not, Snap deserves to know the truth. It's better it comes from someone she trusts than allowing the imps to weaponize it."
"Where is Devika now?" asked Echo, recalling the younger woman with a love for politics. Despite everything, she stood as a fighter for Clone Rights alongside senators Chuchi, Organa, and Mon Mathma. "I don't recall seeing her around the senate building," added the Arc Trooper, concern beginning to flood his voice, even more so when Omega had mentioned some she'd met when with Riyo.
"The Queen of Naboo extended an invitation to her, she's been helping survives of the purge get away and hide" replied Rex, recalling briefly meeting the young politician when on Naboo before, at first he thought she was (Y/N), the two being almost identical. "The queen keeps her protected until the times right for her to return to the Senate, likely as a fully-fledged senator," added the great captain, hearing Gregor chuckle, noticing something few others seemed to recognize.
"I wonder if they did that on purpose?" questioned Gregor, purposely being vague with his line of thought. Another chuckle fled his lips mere moments later upon glancing at Echo and Rex, seeing the confusion written across their features. "Snap and Wolffe running across the galaxy is distracting the imps to the point they haven't even realized Devika is probably the bigger threat. One refuses to give the empire what they want out of sheer stubbornness, and the other is basically building a rebellion," explained the Commando, seeing the irony in the situation. Almost as if the (Y/L/N) sisters had used the divide and conquer tactic against the empire.
"If that was planned, they're doing a good job at it," replied Echo, a proud grin coming to his lips, even more so when their plan seemed to be working. "Tech would be proud," laughed the Arc Trooper, thinking of how Tech and the rest of the Bad Batch would respond.
"So would the rest of the boys," added Rex, knowing all their brothers would be proud of what the (Y/L/N) sisters had managed to do, even if it was unintentional. "And General Skywalker," he added, thinking of the unorthodox Jedi Knight he'd served under for the entirety of the war. Deep down, Rex liked to think the General would be pleased his creative thinking had rubbed off the civvie medic and the senator. "I think Senator Amidala would be proud too; I'm sure if she was still here, she'd be doing as Devika is now," sorrowfully added Rex, sadness glimmering in his eyes to think of all those lost at the end of the war for various reasons.
"Speaking of planned things," started Gregor, pulling his feet from the dashboard, being careful not to catch any buttons and leavers. "How do you plan to sway old Wolffee to join your rebellion?" curiously worded the Commando, suspecting it would be no easy feat to convince the Commander to join the ranks of the growing clone rebellion. "And the rest of Clone Force 99?" he added with haste, suspecting Rex had a plan to convince the three remaining lads of the Bad Batch to join them.
"Hunter, Tech, and Wrecker have Omega to think about; her safety is the number one priority for them," voiced Rex, acknowledging in order for the rest of the bad batch to fight, they would have to be sure Omega would be protected. "As for Wolffe, it shouldn't be much trouble; convincing Snap will be far harder," he replied, knowing the plan Cody had thought of would certainly help, but it relied on (Y/N) and put her in more danger than she was already in. It involved putting her into the heart of the empire's secret goings-on.
"Convince Snap of what?" asked Echo, quickly deciphering he wasn't going to like the answer. Still, he pushed the growing fear and judgment of the situation aside to listen with a clear mind. Rex could only sigh, whereas Gregor clearly displayed his disagreement with Cody's plan; even if it would help them, he was still insistent it wasn't worth the risk.
"Before Cody went looking for General Kenobi, he shared a plan with Rex. It would help with the rebellion and freeing our brothers, but it will also put (Y/N) in the heart of all the danger," worded Gregor, displeasure dripping from his normally smooth voice as he slumped back into the co-pilot chair he'd occupied as if protesting against the idea once again.
"We know clones within the imperial ranks and prisons are disappearing. They're transferred to a secret facility somewhere and never heard from or mentioned again. Cody theorized they were doing experiments on them, he'd heard whispers of a top secret project, Death or Dark Troopers" wearily began Rex as if he was doubting his own judgement for agreeing with the idea in the first place. It was dangerous, and (Y/N) was no soldier, "Snap was supposed to be transferred to the Advanced Science Division when the war ended, but Wolffe, with help from Fox, got to her first. The Science Division is also involved in the disappearances; at first, I thought it was a coincidence, but the more time that passes, the more I believe whoever runs the division had a purpose for wanting (Y/N)," added Rex, sighing as the truth was slowly dawning on him, why the empire wanted to send Snap to such as place.
"To use her as a weapon against us," voiced Gregor, pointing out the obvious answer as well as displaying his disagreement with practically handing Snap to the Science Division on a silver platter. "We clones are loyal to her. We're her army. Who better to use against us?" added the Commando, thinking like the enemy to come to the only logical answer there was. Snap wasn't going to join the empire willingly; the imperials knew it, so her purpose was to be a tool, leverage to force clones to do what the imperials wanted.
"I agree with Gregor," stated Echo, not willing to put Snap in danger, especially if there was another way to get what they needed without taking such a risk. "I know (Y/N) would be willing to do this, especially if it meant furthering something she believed in, but I couldn't bear it if she were hurt or killed. I almost lost her once; I can't take that risk knowing this time she might not come back," added the Arc Trooper for once, listening to his heart rather than his head. Finally, he admitted how it felt being parted from Snap for almost a year, how it felt like he had lost her. He'd already mourned what could have been had the war ended differently, mourned the life he could have shared with her. He didn't want to go through the grief of actually losing her, as he had done with so many brothers, as he had done with Fives and Jesse, and so many others.
"Told you," victoriously spoke Gregor. "Old Wolffee isn't gonna be a walk in the park either."
"And if Snap agrees to the plan?" asked Rex, knowing the opinions of his brothers mattered, but so did (Y/N)'s. What would they do if she agreed to do as Cody suggested? What would any of them do if she willingly joined the Advanced Science Division as a mole? "I know Wolffe would protest, but he'd also do what he could to protect her, even if that meant telling her she's an idiot," added the great Captain, recognizing the danger and Wolffe protesting. After all, protecting Snap was the only duty Wolffe likely felt he had left; there was little doubt the Commander wouldn't be so quick to let it go, especially if he were aware the civvie medic still needed him as much as he needed her.
"I would reluctantly agree. I know better than to argue back with her," quietly replied Gregor, as if he were a cadet again being scolded on Kamino. After all, he was well aware it was pointless trying to convince Snap not to do something, especially if she'd already made her mind up about it. "I'd do everything in my power to make sure she's as safe as possible and has the support needed to complete her mission."
"I would say try and convince her otherwise, but I know she's more stubborn than a Rancor at feeding time," commented Echo, knowing his Civvie Medic could be far more determined and stubborn than the best of soldiers. She could be more savvy than the politicians in the Senate if she had to be, and she was as fearless as the Jedi once were. But that didn't mean he wasn't afraid of losing her; they'd both survived one war, but there was no guarantee they would survive another; the Empire was far crueler than both the republic and the separatists combined, cold and ruthless when it came to dealing with their enemies.

‘grasp, carry, or support with one's hands.’
character(s): Rex, reader, (mentions of 501st, Anakin, and Padme)
genre: angst, hurt to comfort, fluff, romance
overview: Rex loves you. He does, really, but you and him were wrong. It was against the Jedi Code and just taboo. He wouldn’t want to get you in trouble. But you seem adamant on having him.
warning(s): language, violence, death (two spies), alcohol, slight angst, Rex and reader have a small disagreement, sexual language, allusions to smut, does get a little spicy in one scene but not quite nsfw, making out, grinding, etc…
wordcount: 3599 words
“You know we can’t keep doing this.”
God, you knew. Yes, you knew that, you did. He did too, it was obvious, he was a clone. A soldier. And you were… well, you were a Jedi. It was frowned upon to have attachments, especially personal ones. It was even more taboo to have relations with the clones. The men who fought for the republic and were manufactured. They were built for war. That’s what they were made for, to follow orders and fight. That was it.
That was bullshit. They were meant for more than that, they were human. Not droids, they should’ve been able to have free will and live the way they wanted. However, you didn’t live in that kind of galaxy. Few others shared the same view as you. Besides the clones themselves. Some believed they were destined for more. That they deserved more. They were right. But few seemed to actually believe it. They were resigned to their position, even honored it because that’s what they were made for. Even if some deep, hidden part inside of them cried out for more, something different. And in that case, Rex’s heart cried out for love. A family. Ever since he stumbled upon Lawquane’s family, Rex felt an unfamiliar strong pull to have what the other clone had, he longed for it, he hungered for it. And maybe he didn’t have a family just yet. But he had love. He had you.
“Rex,” he didn’t want to hear that. He couldn’t, he really couldn’t. Because then his heart would ache and he’d hold you closer and start whispering sweet nothings into your ear. But even if you hadn’t said his name like that, he would’ve done that anyway. Guilt and conviction clawed at his heart. The two of you had done it again. Even though both of you knew that the relationship between you and him was… wrong? It was, Rex reminded himself. Against the Jedi code and his orders. You and him were wrong. You only closed your eyes, pressing your soft front against his hard back, arm snaking around his waist and hand gently pressing against his abdomen. And the captain sighed deeply, allowing himself to melt beside you despite his previous words. “Just– just five more minutes, Rex. Just so I can hold you for a bit before you go.” And the clone would have protested. Should’ve. Should’ve removed your arm and sat up and got dressed again. “Please.” And then that one word had him turning around to face you, but he didn’t look at you. Instead wrapping his arms around you and tucking your head against his shoulder while burying his own in the crook of your neck. He’d hold you for five minutes. Only five. Savor the warmth, the tenderness and love and familiarity. Before letting you go. Just like how he always did.
“Okay,” he breathed, holding you just a tad tighter. “Only five.” He repeated, words empty and hollow, rough and calloused palm rubbing soothingly over your back. As if he were trying to comfort you and reassure you that you’d be okay when he let you go.
Because you and him were wrong. At least that’s what he told himself.

“General,” “Rex.”
You both acknowledged each other briefly as you walked into the bar. The boys were on a mission, and you and the captain were sent by General Skywalker to a nearby cantina undercover to try and get as much information as you could. And seeing you there, all dolled up even if it was just for a mission… well, Rex could pretend, right? That this wasn’t business and he took you here because he wanted to and had plans because you were his and he was yours and you were gonna walk back home hand and hand like an actual couple and—
“Captain,” he corrected, clearing his throat, moving his eyes down so he didn’t have to see the way your face fell and how you obviously looked hurt before masking it. “Captain.” You repeated quietly. Say his name. Please say his name again, he loved the way it rolled off your tongue so gently, not a number but a name, please, please–
Damn it. Rex sucked it a breath and forced his eyes forward, gloved hand gently gripping your upper arm and guiding you to the bar. “Don’t let any guy buy you a drink. If he does, don’t drink it just in case it’s laced. I’ll keep an eye out for any leads on who the General’s looking for.” The clone ordered quietly, pulling out a stool for you which you sat on while looking up at him and nodding. “I’ll do the same. Be safe.” “You too.” And he almost ducked his head down to peck your lips, but he caught himself before he could, and tore away despite how you had leaned up like it was normal before walking away. A shame, really. You really were expecting that kiss.
You sighed as he walked away, slumping in your seat and resting your cheek on your hand. You really couldn’t take this for much longer. As much as you tried to understand, it also angered you that he was being so stubborn and rejecting every advance you made at one time and then accepting them another. He just couldn’t make up his mind! He was either all in or all out, but you couldn’t do this half-time thing anymore. And maybe you were being selfish. You knew you were, but– but couldn’t you be? Just for once, for once in your life in this hellish galaxy surrounded by nothing but war in pain, couldn’t you indulge in the small pleasures of life? Couldn’t you find solace in this one thing, for once? Even if it was selfish. Just for once, couldn’t you be? Because this hurt. It hurt really bad.
“Hard day, sweetheart?” A voice rang out, snapping you from your lamentful thoughts, and your eyes raised to meet the bartender. A nice looking young person, with an almost knowing look on their face. You seemed to slump more in your chair, small amongst the many beings in the cantina. “No, I’m fine,” you lied, shrugging your shoulders while hunching more over the table, trying to find a more comfortable position to sit in. The bartender rose a brow, a smirk tugging in the corner of their lips. “No use in lying, hon’. I’ve seen that look on many in my time working here,” they explained, before leaning against the counter of the bar, making you sit up. “What boy’s got you all upset? Or girl, there’s no judging here.” They joked, giving you a sly wink and you stammered, unsure whether to relay to them the conflicting feelings and rather on and off relationship you and Rex had, before huffing, deciding to indulge them a bit. “I just–” you cut yourself off, gnawing at your lower lip a little before continuing. “There’s a man…” “Oh?” “Basically, we’re in a situationship, but there’s obviously something more there- y’know? He’s just…. It’s not him, I’m just being selfish I guess-” the bartender shot you a knowing look, before looking around the bar. “Is the dream boy here?” They asked and you gave a shy nod before glancing over to the captain longingly. The bartender ‘oooh-ed’, wiggling their brows suggestively. “A clone, huh? No wonder, I’d wanna keep one of them to myself, too. Heard their packin’ a lot under that cod-piece–” you grimaced and waved your hand to silence them quickly, face flushing in embarrassment at their crude statement. “No- that’s not why, I just–” “Oh, is he lackin’ a couple inches down there-?” “No!” You took a deep breath in, hands up in a pleading gesture for them to just shush. Thankfully, they seemed to take the hint and keep quiet, allowing you to continue. “Me and him have known each other for a long time, and it’s been long enough where we frequently engage with each other romantically, but at the same time, he doesn’t really wanna commit due to our positions.” You explained, and the bartender made a noise of understanding. “...So, it’s somewhat of a friends-with-benefits relationship?” They asked, and you cringed, not wanting to call it that, but there was some truth in that statement. “...kinda, but not really. It’s not that we’re just friends and only use each other for sex, I mean, sometimes we sleep with each other but that’s not our main focus. It’s like we’re in a secret relationship, but it’s on and off.” They sighed, shaking their head. “Well maybe show him what he’s missing out on.” They suggested, and your brows furrowed, lips parting in confusion before shaking your head. “But I don’t want-” they tutted at you, silencing you before sliding you a drink. “You need to relax, baby. You don’t need dead-weight like him burdening you, ‘kay? You don’t have to fuck anyone, although I’d advise you too,” you shot them a withering look and they only snickered before softening their tone, continuing. “But at least drink a little. This is a bar. And I’d hate for a pretty thing like you to be upset in it.” You were quiet, before sighing heavily, giving them a faint smile of gratitude. “Okay. Thank you.” “No problem, baby-cakes. It’s what a bartender is supposed to do.” And that was the last thing they said before they sent you a wink and sauntered off to get somebody else’s order.
You circled the rim of your shot glass, wafting it to you and giving it a small sniff while eyeing it. Once deeming it safe, you tipped your head back and downed it. It burned down your throat, sending heat up into your ears and cheeks, and you grimaced, setting it down with a harsh pant, running a hand through your hair. And then you turned your head to look for Rex once more, but this time, he wasn’t there. You squinted, feeling the familiar lightness of the alcohol, but thankfully it wasn’t strong enough to dull all your senses. Sliding out of your stool, you started looking around for the blond captain, only to spot the exit door slightly jarred open. You felt an odd tug to go out, filled with suspicion and wariness and a tiny bit of dread, and following your gut, you exited the bar and walked outside. “...Captain?” You called out into the darkness, the only light coming from the dim street and house lights. Then, you heard a far cry of pain coming from the alley. Immediately, your blood ran cold. And without thinking, you bolted down the alley. Heart pounding in your ears, you followed the pathway until it brought you to a frightening scene of Rex brawling with someone who looked like a spy based on their clothing. “Rex!” You cried out in fear, catching the attention of both said-clone and spy, who were on the floor bloodied and bruised. Using the Force, you threw the man off him and to the side, only to be tackled from behind by another spy. You yelped in surprise, and Rex gasped. “[name], no!” But it was too late, he was jumped on again and forced to fight the person on top of him while you wrestled with the other. You were forced on your stomach, and then you rolled onto your back, trying to kick the man off you but he raised his fist and brought it down on your stomach hard, knocking the air out of you. Once regaining your breath, you gasped for air, and before the spy could harm you any further, you kicked him hard in the crotch, making him let out a high whimper, before shoving him away, pulling out your lightsaber and turning it on. Rex had long shoved the other off him and socked him hard in the face, and now you and him were back to back. “Are you okay, General?” He called out and you made a noise of agreement. “I’m fine, Captain. Are you?” He only grunted in response, before shooting one of the spy’s who pulled out a gun. And when the other shouted in rage and threatened to pull out his own, you forced him against the wall with the saber held to his throat, Rex crowding protectively behind you to cage the man in. “Who sent you?” You gritted out, eyes narrowing at him. “Fuck off!” He seethed angrily, raising his nose to the air in retaliation. You ignored him, glaring at his insolence. “I’m not gonna repeat myself again,” you declared. “Who sent you.” This time it wasn’t a question. It was a demand. And then, he spat on you, growling. “Go to Hell, whore.” And that was the last thing he said before he bit down on something in his mouth, going taut as his eyes rolled back, body shuddering violently as he was electrocuted before falling limp. You pocketed your lightsaber after turning it off, breathing heavily while shaking your head slowly. “He killed himself.” You murmured. Rex glared at his dead body, before huffing. “If he hadn’t, I would’ve killed him anyway.” He swore low in his throat, wiping the spit off your cheek before checking you over. “Are you okay? They didn’t hurt you too bad, right?” He asked in concern, eyes softening. And this time he let you lean into his hand without pulling away. “No, I’m fine. Just a bit bruised. What about you?” You asked, taking a step closer to see if he had gotten harmed in any way, but he waved you off. “I’m okay. C’mon, let’s go find a place to stay while we wait for the others.” He suggested, letting go of you, making you go cold where his hands had previously been. But you didn’t protest, and instead nodded, following after him.
_________________________________________________
Fshhhh
It wasn’t until late that you found a place to stay. The door slid open with a soft hiss as the two of you entered the small room. Rex was able to find a rather cheap motel for the two of you to stay the night at while you waited for the others. It was a humble place. Brown carpeted floors, plain white walls with one bathroom and a small kitchen in the corner of the room, and two beds and a couch. It was good. Rex started unstrapping his armor, removing the plastoid so he was standing there in his blacks. You did the same, undoing your robes and shrugging off the clothing, leaving you in your breast-band and trousers. And Rex couldn’t help the way his eyes lingered on you in your state of undress. Maker, you were beautiful. Every mark and blemish and scar, Rex adored you. Even if he didn’t say it out loud. He couldn’t say it out loud. He couldn’t. But he couldn’t stop himself from thinking it. You were all soft curves and warmth, and he was hard planes and cold, but in your arms he found home. And kriff, didn’t he want to be home right now. Inside your home. The thought had him shivering, and after the long day the both of you just had, he couldn’t stop himself from slowly strolling over to you, his chest pressed to your back. Strong arms looped around your waist, and he leaned his head down to press soft, fluttering kisses to the side of your neck and shoulder. You relaxed in his hold, not having the strength to tell him no as you tilted your head to the side to give him more access. He pressed a chaste kiss to your jaw before turning you around and walking you backwards until you were sat on the bed, and he slowly started to sink to his knees before you. Not before pressing his lips to yours firmly, one hand cradling the back of your head as if you were going to pull away. You sighed into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his head, fingers gently running down his buzzed hair, parting your lips for him when his tongue ran over your bottom lip. His tongue gently plundered inside your mouth, tangling with your own lovingly before he pulled away with a shuddering breath. He started leaving hot open-mouthed kisses to your throat before sucking a dark mark underneath your jaw. “Rex,” you breathed, and he murmured something in Mando’a into your skin, pushing you back onto the bed and crawling on top of you. He caged you in, his hips flushed against yours while he kissed and nipped at your skin. You moaned softly and wrapped your legs around his hips, bringing him closer to you, and as if on command, the captain rolled his hips down onto yours, grinding his arousal down against you, but it seems as if as soon as he did that, he snapped out of it and realized just what this was leading up to.
“N-no,” he stuttered breathlessly, making you look up at him in confusion as he suddenly pulled up off of you, shaking his head in conviction. “No, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that, we can’t.” He declared, standing up and taking a few steps back. You sat up and felt your heart clench, hurt flickering on your face, before you sighed and it turned into a mix between frustration and resignation. “This is just how it’s always going to be between us, isn’t it?” You questioned rhetorically, and the clone’s lips pressed into a firm line, knowing what you were trying to talk about. “[name], please, you know we can’t do this. It’s wrong, we’ve talked about this,” he tried to reason, but you cut him off, shaking your head. “No, you’re right, we talked about this but I’ve never understood it- Rex, I know our positions are different but does that really have to determine whether we can be together or not?” You questioned rather pleadingly, and he frowned, brows creasing as he averted his gaze down. “Yes, it can get in the way, you’re a Jedi. Attachments are forbidden–” “Anakin and Padme are married and both me and you know that and he’s a Jedi.” You brought up and Rex went silent, jaw clenching. “I’m a clone, [name.]” He stated, as if that meant something. You scoffed, raising your hands in a gesture of thinly veiled frustration. “Is that supposed to matter-? You’re still human, Rex, it’s okay to have feelings–” you tried to explain to him, but he shut down. “We’re not continuing this conversation. We both know this is wrong, and that’s final. Please, General, let it go.” He stated, both begging and demanding. Your fists clenched, looking at him with frustration and hurt before you felt your lower lip quiver. You shut your eyes, before slumping in defeat, opening your eyes and looking down to the floor. “Does this even mean anything to you?” You finally asked in a hushed tone. Rex looked at you like you just insulted him, eyes widening and lips parting. “What?” “Does this,” you gestured between you and him. “Mean anything to you? Or is it just a means to an end? I just— I need you to be honest with me, Rex. Just once. Do you even love me?”
Silence.
Rex looked broken. Yet so conflicted. He was torn. Between his duties and beliefs as a clone and you. “...[name]-” “Rex, please.” Your eyes were starting to water up now, and his heart cracked at the sight of it. Don’t cry. Don’t cry, not right now. Not when you’re trying to talk to him. You told yourself, before sucking in a breath and continuing. “Because if you don’t, then that’s fine– I just, I just kinda need to know before I keep trying for you,” you admitted vulnerably, your tone wavering, and that’s all Rex needed to hear before he scooped you up, holding you close to him as if you were about to shatter. And you weakly pushed against him, shaking your head. “No, no, don’t force yourself, I’m sorry.” You apologized, and Rex pressed soft kisses to your head and cheeks, wiping your tears before they even had a chance to fall. “I’m not. I’m not, cyar’ika, I promise,” he swore, lifting you up so you were standing while holding you close to him. “S’okay. S’okay, I’m sorry I made you cry, m’sorry,” he murmured, rocking the two of you slowly. Slowly, you relaxed in his hold again, but he refused to let you go, adamant on comforting you still. “...I do love you,” he admitted, pulling away just a little to cup your face. “I do. More than you could know. I just…” he trailed off, looked down guiltily. “I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble because of… of me. I’m just a clone. I shouldn’t-” you cupped his cheek, pressing your lips gently to his, before pulling away. “I’d leave the Jedi Order for you, Rex. I’d get persecuted, if it meant I could be with you.” You whispered, and the captain shook his head, leaning into your palm. “Please don’t say that,” he begged quietly, and you hushed him softly. “It’s true.” You stated, pulling him into another embrace, both of you in each other's arms.
Because in this moment, he just wanted to hold you. That’s all he wanted. And this time he wasn’t leaving. Even if it meant disobeying orders and going against any code.

Hello there!
Soo I'm back at collegue, and we just got two prompts for the 100celeb masterlist left (servant!rex & demon!echo). Since both of them are going to be very long oneshots (more like short stories, really), and with how busy I am, they'll take me quite the time to write; so I thought I could post some smaller ones for you in the mean time.
Here's the twist, though; I'll only be accepting (for now) FIVE OMEGAVERSE requests. I really like that sort of AU and I got sad to discover they are nearly non-existant with our dear clones. So no matter if you want fluff, smut, angst, boy/girl, boy/boy, with /reader, /original chatacter, or between clones, here's your chance to request them! I'll take the first five requests and leave on hold the rest for a possible future.
You can either make your request in this post or send a dm or ask.
Please reblog this post to help me reach more readers that might be into this sort of thing and let me know if you'd like to be tagged!
Xx, Blue.

First of all, you’re amazing and your stories are amazing 🥺 Can I please ask for a Rex x female reader fic?
For the 4th of July here in the USA, my family always does a big cookout of some kind! This year, I’m making a few traditional family favorite dishes for the first time. I’m a little nervous because I’ve never been in charge of 3 dishes and dessert before, but as I’m cooking today, I’m wondering how the 501st guys would react to someone (the Captain’s girlfriend 🤭) inviting them over to eat for a celebration and cooking a whole lot of good food for them. (I’m making pasta salad, potato salad, and cheeseburgers, with red/white/blue marble cake!)
Hello and thank you. I'm doing my best. I don't know what the Star Wars equivalents are of those foods, but I'm sure the boys would all love to eat up anything you make them. I hope this is something along the lines of what you were looking for.
Rex was the only clone who had been to your home. You had introduced each other to different traditions. Your traditions were more domestic than Rex's but you loved learning about his brothers and the traditions the clones had made for themselves. You were the one who suggested inviting a bunch of the 501st over to eat and celebrate the upcoming holiday. The boys had never done anything quite like that, but were very excited to learn more about you and meet your friends as well.
When Jesse, Hardcase, Fives, Echo, Kix, Tup, and Dogma all arrived at the door, they looked at each other, each one unsure who should knock.
"Jesse, just knock," Fives said.
"Why do I have to do it," Jesse shot back.
"You're the one directly in front of the door," Tup replied.
"Oh nevermind I'll do it," Hardcase said with a grin as he pushed Jesse aside and knocked.
Rex opened the door and welcomed the boys through the house and out the back. A large table was set up for everyone to eat with you setting out multiple dishes to be passed. Their jaws all dropped. It was so much food and it smelled good. Not like the bland stuff they served in the mess hall.
"Boys," Rex said, "here she is." He introduced you to each of his brothers.
"You made all this for us," Kix asked.
"Yes," you said with a smile. "It's a day to celebrate with friends and family so we wanted you here."
You introduced them to some of your friends and everyone sat down. Food was passed around and Dogma and Echo were a particular help when it came to making sure the dishes were available to everyone and didn't mysteriously all end up near Jesse. The boys could not get over how much food there was and how good it tasted. They weren't eating simply to consume calories to be affective soldiers. They were eating for enjoyment and socializing. It was relaxed and fun.
Rex and the boys all helped clean up afterward too. Rex insisted if you went to all that trouble, it was the least they could do. He kissed you and thanked you for the food while you hung out with your friends. The boys all piled into the kitchen, Rex directing where leftovers should go, and Tup and Kix washing the dishes, with the others helping to wipe down the table and put the clean dishes away.
The rest of the evening included dessert and games for those who wanted to play. Hardcase and Fives got particularly competitive, but in the end Echo wiped the floor with them.
Your friends also enjoyed meeting the boys and getting to know them. They were dynamic and fun. Each had a sense of humor, even Dogma, who had loosened up in the new environment and had struck your friend's fancy. You all decided to try to get together like this more often.

Find me and don’t let go (Rex x Fem!Reader) part 2
Part 1
Warnings: fluff. More fluff. Tiny pinch of angst, fluff. Cuddles. Kisses. Fluff.
You woke up to the sunlight streaming through the window and arms wrapped around you. Something you hadn’t felt that in a long time, but certainly not unwelcome. Rex’s chest rose and fell against your back, reminding you that your beloved husband was finally home. Carefully, you pried his hands apart so you could go to the kitchen and make some caf.
The tooka purrs and paces figure eights around your ankles as you pour the water and grounds into the machine.
“You left me.”
You turn to see Rex in the doorway with a pouty expression on his face. You giggle at the sight, because you missed him so, so much.
“Never.”
You push the button on the caf maker and stalk towards him with a content smile. As soon as you’re within reach, he hauls you up into his arms and returns to the bed with you in tow, giggling as you both flop down.
His eyes are overflowing with love as he looks at you. Maker, when he thought you were dead, he wanted to die as well. You had been the same way.
“I love you, Mesh’la.” He whispers, nudging your nose with his.
You close your eyes, reveling in the gesture.
“And I love you. But where the hell have you been?”
He chuckles. “Mostly helping brothers who’ve been imprisoned by the empire and getting their chips out.”
You subconsciously trace the scar on his head. He’d told you about that last night. Your heart stuttered.
He couldn’t stay with you when his brothers needed him.
Rex noticed the change in your mood.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
You look away. “You’re going to leave, aren’t you?”
Rex offers you a smile. “If you think I’m letting you out of my sights again, Mesh’la, you’re in for a surprise.”
You relax, curling against his chest as he draws you in.
A mew sounds and both of you look up as your tooka jumps on the bed.
“This is Domino.” You beam proudly, scratching behind his tall ears. “Adopted him when I first got here. He got the name cause I was feeling sentimental.”
Rex starts to tear up, because not only did you wait for him to come home, but you named your only companion after his tragic vod’ikas.
“Rex? Are you okay?”
He gives you a kiss that reassures his love for you and touches your forehead to his.
“I’m the best I’ve ever been, cyare.”

Babe Across The Bar [LGBT+ Fem!Reader]

Warnings and Information: Feminine LGBT+ reader who expresses romantic/sexual attraction for more than just men. List is primarily TBB centric, with a few bonus Clones. Minor suggestive content/dialogue. Pining. Gay Panic™. Mentions of alcohol. Sprinkling of Mando'a. Minor language. There's one line that could be interpreted as the reader experiencing being outed against her will, but kept vague in Tech's section of these snapshot scenarios. Hardcase's section deals with homophobes. Doesn’t follow the typical headcanons put into bullet points format because I ended up being a little too inspired for these! Some of these also deviated from the original prompt, but I feel they still relate enough to warrant inclusion.
Word-count: 4,694
Prompt: How would the boys (any boys, all the boys, whomever boys) react to their gal friend/crewmate and/or feminine S/O commenting on how stunning another girl is?
Hunter (Crewmate offering to be your wingman)
His eyes often flit to the door whenever someone walks in out of habit in large part to his senses. Keeping an eye on his surroundings. Things he was trained to do. So he notices the attractive woman who's just strolled in through the front entrance of 79's. Her clothing, her hair, her nails are all beautiful and immaculate.
And he notices how your breath hitches in your throat when you see her. But it's not insecurity or jealousy that made you do that. He's caught on for a while now that you "swing more than one way" as it were. But you've never been explicit in your words, or given him the big speech, so he's kept his mouth shut. If a member of his crew has something to tell him, he wants to give them a chance. You're no different.
But the comment under your breath is enough to finally ask. "Oh Maker, she's gotta be one of the angels from Iego…" You've just compared her to the Diathim of Millius Prime, practically swooning.
He takes a sip of his drink, eyes trained on the bombshell beauty you seem to be pining for. "You wanna go talk to her?"
You shake your head rapidly at him, trying not to choke on the drink in your hands with the fruit-flavored and colorful, jelly-like particulate. (It's new to the novelty drinks menu at 79's, so Hunter's not sure how it tastes, but you seem to like it.) "Oh stars no!" Did he misread the situation before him, were you looking at her with jealousy after all?
You sigh, putting your head in your hands with a groan. "She's so out of my league… She's probably only here for the troopers, anyways." you add solemnly, finally slumping forward in your seat at the bar top. Hunter sets down his glass and plants a steady hand on your shoulder in a gesture of comfort. He's still getting to know you as a regular part of his squad, in all fairness, but he should have trusted his instinct. You did seem to have a thing for women.
So maybe he could offer to help.
"Well… if you've had enough liquid courage and want to try your luck, I'll be your wingman, cyar'ika." he says, giving you a friendly pat after slowly sitting up. You'll think about it, you murmur.
You never end up making a move to so much as introduce yourself to her, much, much too nervous. At the end of the night, Hunter, who had tried to coax and encourage you several times throughout the night, just gives you another pat on the back. "Maybe next time, cyare. Don't feel too bad." As you walk back to the Marauder together, Hunter won't pressure you into it of course but he offers to help you practice for next time, if you think it'll cheer you up. As part of his squad, there'll always be the banter and the teasing of course, but Hunter will always offer to help.
Crosshair (Initially confused (+ insecure) partner)
Sight sharper than a knife, he was not quite afraid to check out the beautiful woman hanging off another Clone's elbow once upon a time. But now, with you, he keeps himself in check for the most part. You've briefly had that talk as a relatively new couple, that really it’s okay. It’s only natural to look. We’re all kriffing human, after all, aren’t we? The whole possessive ownership aspect is weird and icky to you, and you’re not gonna get yourself in a twist just because you catch him glancing at another woman. But he realizes there's probably something else you should have talked about together.
You like women too, and you’re looking at them just as much. It's hard to miss by the fifth instance of a remark like "Oh, she's cute!" and subsequent gestures with your glass to indicate who you're looking at. He's trying so hard not to feel like you’re testing him. Like you’re playing some little game by calling his loyalty into question, just how “obedient” he’ll really be. "Oh, yeah?" There's a strange twist of discomfort in his guts that he can't figure out. Is he jealous? Is he upset? (Should he order something to eat from the overpriced appetizer menu?)
"Yeah, I mean, look at her," you invite him with a flashy smile, "she's cute!"
He blinks at you with mild concern. He's heard alcohol brings out a different side in people, and he can't recall the full array of what you've had to drink. "Are you feeling alright?" He's unsure why he's so bothered. Is it because you're not paying attention to him?
"Better than alright, Cross. What's wro-? Oh. Oh shit didn't I tell you?" you set down your drink with a soft laugh and an apology, face looking flushed in a way that has nothing to do with the red and purple club lights. "I, uh, I play for more than one team, romantically at least. I'm sorry if I never told you, Crosshair."
He frowns for a split second, but he quickly answers that there's no need to apologize. He was a little confused at first sure (and perhaps slightly envious that you were commenting so openly on other people who weren't him), but he takes a look now at the woman you had indicated. She's not just cute, "Oh, the smoke show in the red dress?"
"Yeah. That's the one." you nod approvingly, the movement slow and deliberate. "She's a stunner, ain't she?" Certainly is, he agrees. (One of his brothers sighs playfully and makes the remark that nights out to 79's, or any bar for that matter, will get a lot more interesting from now on.)
The rest of the night carries on this way, you making the occasional glancing once-over of another trooper's arm-candy for the night, but most of your attention is given to Crosshair. You're with him for a reason. You know how to behave yourself, for kriff's sake. Any inkling of the horrible, hateful stereotypes of your orientation being true are so far from reality. You don't make passes at everyone you see. You keep your comments innocent and general if you decide to get a little gutsy and talk to one of them.
The redhead's got curls to die for, what kind of product is she using?
That is such a cute dress (with pockets!) that you have to know where she got it, because you swear you've seen fashion like that on Naboo.
Sorry if this is weird to ask but she's totally wearing a designer fragrance from one of the Core Worlds, right?
By the end of the night, Crosshair is reassured that you're not playing any kind of game with him, and perhaps the two of you will be having another talk to smooth out any wrinkles he has in his understanding of your orientation; but you promise him over and over you're with him for a reason in case any of your comments tonight made him feel any doubt. Just because you swing more than one way does not mean you're going to leave in the event you feel a stronger preference for women for a while. You love him.
And he wholly believes you.
Wrecker (Your enthusiastic hype-man)
"Oh shit." You hunker down in the booth seat, wide-eyed and breathless.
Wrecker reflexively glances down at the casual fatigues he wore to 79's tonight instead of the dark red and gray armor he typically wears. "Wha'? Did I get dip on myself again?" He doesn't see anything, so he takes a look at you, and that's when he notices you practically halfway under the table. "Did you drop something? I can lift the table so it's easier to-!"
"No!" you blurt out, sitting up. "That won't be necessary! Don't lift the table!"
You're starting to confuse him. "Then what's wrong?"
"She's here." A slightly shaky finger is pointed across the Clone bar, where seated at the counter, is the woman who's only ever shown interest in the other girls often brought here, or the dancers. You've had a not-so-silent crush on her for ages but didn't want to go and try anything. Until last week when she turned down what must've been the hundredth trooper. "Sorry fellas, afraid I'm not interested. But you'd all definitely be my type if I was into men." Oh Maker you'd been a hopeless mess.
The endless inner cycle of 'do I want to BE her, or do I want to be WITH her?' had finally sorted itself out in your head after that.
Wrecker knew from the jump that your romantic and sexual interests did not begin and end with men when he caught you staring at the same woman as him in a dirty jumpsuit on the airfield. And then literally caught you when you tripped over Tech's box of tools in your distraction. Ever since, he's done his best to help you make a move over someone you were clearly feeling something for.
"Go talk to her!" Wrecker encourages you, nudging your ribs with a careful elbow, "Say hi!"
"Maker, I can't, she's so pretty a-and like-? Oh Wrecker I can't even explain it… It's like I look at her and I just-"
Wrecker chuckles softly, leveling you with a look that tells you he knows exactly what you mean. "Have trouble thinkin' straight because she's gonna be paying attention and you don't want to kark it up?"
You bite your bottom lip so hard he's worried you'll make it bleed and get it all over your pretty little outfit. "Y-yes! I'm so nervous…"
He tells you not to worry about it too much, you're overthinking it! "Introduce yourself, mesh'la. You'll kick yourself for days if you don't." Okay, okay, he's right. Here goes nothing, you say. You slip out of the booth seat and sidle up to the drinks counter under the notion of ordering another drink first, but your crush takes notice of you in her proximity, and all she manages is a pleasant hello before you're a grinning mess. Wow, you had it bad for her. You stammer through your introduction, and give her your name as you say it was nice to meet her, and sure, you'd love to chat while the drink slinger whips something up!
In one of your many nervous glances around the club, he makes sure you get a clear view of his approving thumbs up. You're doing great! You end up talking to her for nearly forty-five minutes before she has to leave, she's got work in the morning, but she's scribbling something down on the bar top that Wrecker can't see.
"Hey, look at you! You did it, kid!" Wrecker cheers as you walk back over to the booth in a daze, your eyes focused on the slip of flimsiplast in your hands.
"Sh-she gave me her comm frequency… What does that mean?"
Wrecker can only laugh. Oh man, guess even you will have your help-how-do-I-function-around-a-girl-I've-never-even-met-a-girl moments he's seen many Clones have.
"I think that means she wants to keep talking to ya, ad'ika."
"O-oh." Is all you simply say. "Holy kriff I did it. I talked to her." you add after a long, long pause as Wrecker adds the number into your contacts for you, just in case the flimsi gets wet and you end up losing the number before the night is over.
"You sure did! I knew you could do it!"
Tech (Not-so-surprised friend)
To him, the fact that you have a romantic, perhaps even sexual interest in women is as obvious as the fact that the phenotypic eye color for (most) Clones is brown.
That's simply just how it is, in his world. But he has extensively researched how significant a coming out is for people such as yourself who do not fall under a heteronormative scope. He does not ask. He does not hint to you that he knows. And if he has let it slip, he is careful to express that it is not a big deal.
Not a big deal in the sense that he would end a friendship with you, or view you as if there was something "broken" and "defective" about you. That would be rather hypocritical of him after all. Well, sort of. He's more deviant than defective, because his genetic mutations do not hinder his ability to perform as a competent soldier of the GAR, and much like your inclinations, that is not something he has control over. He is simply a Clone from a "bad batch" much in the same way that you are a woman who fancies other women.
If you were to even come out to him, he has already carefully considered what he would say to you. He values your friendship and your company. He would very much like to maintain this by saying the right thing.
That he is glad that you trusted him enough to share such an important facet of yourself. That though, quite honestly, he has questions, he will save them for another time. That he understands you must be nervous, scared even, but he will never treat you any different than before you told him. And he most definitely will not tell you that he deduced this months ago.
But blast him, when you sent him a message asking to meet up at 79's a little earlier before the typical meetup, he was so certain that this was the conversation. So he had been mentally coaching himself on what to say, but more importantly what not to say so much, that when you slipped into the booth and said "I wanna tell you something, Tech…" it slipped his mouth faster than a Mon Calamari in water.
"That you like women?"
Oh shit. Oh shitshitshit. That was the thing he was supposed to refrain from saying or asking!
"Hah… Was I really that obvious? Did I worry for nothing?" You ask with a sincere laugh. You're not offended, or angry, or anything in the slightest. In fact, you look relieved. "...Tech?"
"I'm so sorry." is all he can offer. Oh Maker, he's so incredibly sorry, he tells you. He's robbed you of the chance to have a very significant conversation about what many deem unnatural, but in fact it's not; just before you joined him in their usual booth at 79's he was reading an admittedly rather heartwarming article about same-sex couples occuring in the galactic animal kingdom before you arrived, actually! (Everything from the little nuna to the mighty and magnificent purrgil!) But he's suspected this for some time and didn't think it was his place to ask. He's sorry he's ruined this chance for y-
You interrupt him with a laugh as you take one of his hands and squeeze it reassuringly. You just laugh and laugh, a grin from ear to ear the whole time before you settle yourself. "Oh, Tech… It's okay! I don't care if it didn't end up being surprising to you. I'm just so glad you understood that you shouldn't say something just because it was obvious in this case. Thank you. You're a good friend. Not everyone has been."
He's sorry to hear that, first and foremost. "But I am… glad that you trusted me enough to want to tell me."
Echo (Friend who's known for ages)
Echo carefully tests whatever fun and colorful drink you ordered for yourself as you give his a try. The two of you have been friends for ages, since before the Citadel. So that means Echo's known nearly as long as you've been friends that you swing more than one way. In fact, it was surprisingly comforting to know that had not changed since ending up in a Techno Union chamber.
"Hey, cyar'ika. Can I ask if you… Would it be weird to…" he sighed sharply and says he's just going to rip off the bacta patch and ask. "Do you still like women in addition to-?"
"Don't worry. That hasn't changed while you were gone." you told him, wrapping him up in a careful hug on one of those first nights since he'd been freed and given time to rest. To fill himself in on what happened in the galaxy around him since being plugged into an algorithm. "Welcome back, Echo."
He sets the drink down and shakes his head, and you give him back his beverage with a disgusted shudder. "Ugh. How can you stand that?" you both tease each other in tandem.
"I don't understand your taste in beverages, but at least I understand your taste in women." Echo rags on you with a mischievous smile, indicating someone across the club who's been staring at the drinks menu for the last three minutes. "How about her? Clone News Network suggests she's a little shy, perhaps, but I've heard you have a similar hobby. That's something, hm?"
You scoff, knowing well enough that the rumor mill requires taking things with a grain of salt. "Oh no, that's not enough to just-"
"She's also of 'multiple persuasions'." Echo assures you, quelling that particular anxiety. "Believe me, I asked around rather… extensively." he suggests.
"Oh, did you now?"
"Mhm."
"Are you trying to set me up on a d-?"
Echo shakes his head. "Mm-mn. Only asked if any of the boys had gotten a vibe, or heard anything. She's pretty forthcoming about it, turns out, so it's not like this was something I found by invading her privacy or betraying trusts." He's a skilled tactician, he reminds you gently, and he understands that asking around takes delicacy and knowing that you can't just ask any ol' brother.
He's nothing but mindful, as ever. "If you wanna do anything about it, that's up to you. You get more out of something when you want it, I wasn't going to set you up for something against your will."
You take a thoughtful swig of your beverage and set the glass down on the bar top once more. "If I did… would you help me plan on how to make a move? You know I'm a little hopeless with this stuff. Guys are one thing, but, I dunno, it's different when trying to flirt with another woman as a woman." you admit with a nervous laugh.
Of course he would, Echo promises sweetly, kindly as ever.
BONUS CLONES
Fives (Gives you advice)
Between reminding Hardcase not to go in rotary cannons blazing nearly every mission, and coming up with sufficient battle strategies as an Advanced Recon Commando, Fives is nearly convinced that he'll go gray by the time he's, what, technically fifteen? Nearly.
So in a way, he loves when you send him a message asking for his input on low-stakes stuff. No one's in any danger, he's not worried about a brother's safety, and he still gets to show off how smart he is.
>Oh Maker Fives help there's a total babe here tonight I think she's super cute but I don't know if it's safe to make a move or say anything what do I do
It's 21:00: are you at 79's?
> Yeah why
79's is a pretty accepting establishment, so see if anything she brought with her or is wearing has any kind of pin, or keychain or deliberate color scheme, Ka'ra. Take a deep breath.
He chuckles as he watches the bubbles start and stop at the bottom of the messaging feature repeatedly. Poor you. Must be so nervous. So worked up on your own anxiety and panic that you might benefit from a second, teasing reminder.
Ka'raaaa. Did you take a deep breath, silly? I don't care what the song says, love is not a battlefield, you don't need to panic.
He thinks for a second and changes his mind.
Actually no, scratch that. It is, but it isn't. You still need a strategy, but you need to have a level head first.
> You're right, you're right. Taking a deep breath
Captain Rex seems to materialize behind him and over the shoulder like a hologram, peering down at the screen out of curiosity. "Those don't look like reports. One of our brothers having a little lady trouble at 79's again?"
Fives laughs in good humor. "I'm not exactly sure why I got designated the 501st's biggest flirt, but I'll take it, Captain." He can get plenty nervous and unsure of what to say like anyone else, but Fives cares about his brothers; of course he's going to do his best to help them. "No, it's our favorite mechanic here on Coruscant." He trusts his Captain will exercise his discretion and make no mention of knowing the romantic and sexual persuasions of their friend if she hadn't made explicit mention to him. "I see. Well, wish her luck for me. I've got my own reports I've put off long enough."
"I'll have mine in by 21:30, Captain!" Fives promises, knowing he'll probably be helping some of the Shinies learn to fill them out properly once again. A little extra guidance and another source of advice goes a long way for many, brothers and friends alike.
> Good call about looking for pins, Fives. I think I'm in the clear
He's not totally sure what that color scheme ties to when you describe the personal touch this "total babe across the bar" has added to her handbag looks like, but the simple fact that you're now fairly sure you're safe to flirt with her (if that's what you decide to do) brings you a lot of relief.
Him too, honestly.
You gonna go for it, mesh'la? The Captain and I wish ya luck if you do!
> I'd have to think of the right words first, but thanks Fives. You coming to 79's later tonight?
Have reports to finish up, so we'll see.
> Your's or some of your brothers'? (Is it Hardcase's again?)
Very funny, Ka'ra. I just try to be helpful to whoever asks.
> I'm only teasing~ You're a very smart dependable brother, and friend, Fives. Next time you come to 79's if it's not tonight, I'll buy you a drink as a way of saying thank you.
Fives smiles. He'd like that, he responds. He wishes you luck once more, and says he should get a start on wrapping this particular report up since it contains information the Captain will need to report to General Skywalker with.
Never told us there'd be this much damn paperwork to do as part of our training on Kamino if you're gonna be made an ARC trooper.
> Good thing you're smart, Fives. I'm confident you'll figure out something wicked intelligent, like how to stop this war one day. 🩷
Captain Rex (Doing his best to learn and support you)
"Huh… gotta say, there's certainly a lot to try to understand; I might still have a few questions about it, but I'm not gonna pry into it if you don't feel like explaining it." The Captain admits, scratching the back of his neck with a soft chuckle. "I'm not quite up to speed on all this, but-"
"Rex, it's okay." you assure him. "I know you're doing your best. I only told you a short while ago, remember? And hey," here you take his hand and give him a friendly squeeze, "it took me a while to realize this stuff about myself too. It's not always like the media where it just… "clicks", suddenly! It's almost like a building suspicion, or passing thoughts that you try to excuse at first, but then you realize that you're feeling these feelings and thinking these thoughts more and more. And that's when you tend to figure out "Oh, hey, that term I found on the Holonet describes me!" and it all makes sense. For the most part."
"Oh?" Rex asks, intrigued.
"Sometimes you find a label or orientation that fits you better than one you were first using." you explain, scribbling down a few labels off the top of your head onto a scrap of flimsi you had among your things as you met up with the Captain for a cup of caf on your day off, "Like say, you think this one best explains you," you circle an example, "so you use it for a while. But then later you hear about this-" you x-out the first label and circle a new one, "and you find it does a much better job of explaining how you feel. And there was nothing wrong with identifying with the first one for a while until you found what fit better and changed it, either."
He nods thoughtfully, very clearly mulling this over. Then it hits him. "A little like, well, when a Clone finds their name?"
"Yes!" you cheer, "Yes, kinda like when a Clone finds his name! Maybe he thought he wanted to be called Skip for a while, but he decided he felt more comfortable with naming himself Tripper after hearing someone else say it for the first time."
He thinks he better understands this now when he thinks of it in this context, he explains with a smile that suggests a lot of relief. He's just so busy, but he wanted to understand what you meant after the last night out you had with the 501st and you were all sharing embarrassing stories. Rex wasn't a stranger to the fact that men could like men and women could like women, but some of these other labels were lost on him.
"I've been around a while, but I have to admit I don't know what that means." he sheepishly replied when you explained what your orientation was as part of your embarrassing situation. But now that he knows, Rex wants you to know you'll always have his support.
Hardcase (Identifies as a Kriffing Problem if you don't respect his friends)
It's good news for you, bad news for the nasties when they decide that they want to be antagonistic in a safe space. You wanted to check out a new, very accepting bar in the area, and had asked Hardcase to come along with you to help ease your nerves about it.
His lively energy would do everyone some good, you figured. He was friendly and personable, so he'd get along with everyone. And you were right; Hardcase truly does get along with everyone from the snappily-dressed bartenders to the other allies who are there to support their friends in case there's trouble.
Everyone except the bigots. He's always been all-smiles off the battlefield due to his energetic nature, and you've never seen him drop a smile so fast. When it's time to get serious, Hardcase gets serious. "What the kriff did you say?" He's not asking because he didn't hear what insults had been lobbied your way, he's giving the other guy a chance to back down and leave if he knows what's good for him. "I know you didn't just say that about my friend."
The other guy repeats himself, louder this time. "I said anyone who identifies as a-"
"I'm about to identify as a kriffing problem if you don't shut the hell up." Hardcase warns him one last time, putting himself between you and the antagonizer who overheard you mentioning there were a lot of cute girls here tonight.. "Sorry that you feel so threatened by a woman finding someone other than you attractive, but that's a "you" problem that you should take somewhere else." He suggests they take a hike to 79's specifically. He conveniently "forgets" to mention that it's a Clone bar, and as the troublemakers leave, he tips off a few of his brothers about what's headed their way.
"Don't worry about them. They'll find out how many of us identify as a kriffing problem before they think about trying this again anytime soon." Hardcase promises, his sweet and charming smile present like it never even left as he checks on you after the fact.

Perfect Princessa (Captain Rex x Senator Reader)
Note: She/Her pronouns are used. Warning for Body Dysphoria. (Remember you are beautiful and perfect just the way you are). Requested by Invisible Boi on Quotev.com Words: 1.4k
Rex wasn't a man to do things by halves. He took his duties to the republic and the GAR very seriously. He valued the friendships he had and the lives of his brothers above winning the battles he often found himself thrown into the middle of. Although he wasn't interested in the politics of the war, he had found himself with an unexplainable attraction to a certain senator. (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N). At first, it started out as a friendship but soon blossomed into something more. Rex found himself thinking of (Y/N) during his quieter moments on the front lines of war and often wondered what battle she fought in the unwinnable battlefield of the senate.
He discovered another of (Y/N)'s battles when he returned to Coruscant for shore leave, deciding to surprise her with a visit. When he entered (Y/N)'s apartment, using the code she'd so kindly given him. It was as quiet as a tomb, nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first. To the point Rex had convinced himself (Y/N) was at the senate building, preparing for or involved in some sort of debate, no doubt about the war. (Y/N) was a senator after, and a damn good one.
Just as Rex was about to pick up his helmet to leave. He heard (Y/N)'s voice, quieter than normal, no louder than a whisper. Filled with sadness and sounding as if she'd been crying. With little thought, Rex had followed the trail of her soft but hurt-filled voice, forgetting about his helmet. Instead, his focus was on finding (Y/N) and finding out what was causing her to be so sad and distressed. Rex's immediate thoughts had something to do with politics, it wasn't unusual for (Y/N) to be strong in front of her colleagues but show her true feelings on something in the privacy of her own home.
When Rex reached the refresher door, he could hear (Y/N) voice far more clearly, hearing her words. She was talking to themselves, critiquing something, and calling herself stupid. Almost instantly Rex felt the urge to walk inside and reassure her, she wasn't stupid, she'd done their best. He'd believed it was about a political debate. So was surprised when her words truly hit him.
(Y/N) wasn't critiquing her abilities as a senator, no she was pointing out flaws in their appearance. Things that Rex hadn't noticed or even seen before. Things such as her nose being too big, or her eyes being two different shades of the same color. Even critiquing how she looked in certain dresses, how they looked bloated in some and too skeletal-like in others. Even commenting on how other senators had seen the obvious imperfections and flaws, but been too polite to voice their thoughts, instead (Y/N) theorized her colleagues would laugh and make fun of her behind her back.
"You should have worn a different outfit (Y/N), no one ever takes you seriously wearing it. Blush Pink doesn't suit you" rambled (Y/N), as she started about the dress she'd chosen to wear that day. The one that had the gold accessories to go with it. "It makes you look frumpy. shows all the bumps and lumps" cruelly spoke (Y/N), her words harsh and unflattering. void of the love and kindness Rex had come to know.
Rex didn't think twice before opening the refresher door, a stern look painted on his features, ensuring (Y/N) knew he'd heard her words and now knew the secret she'd tried so very hard to hide from him. A secret Rex made no attempt to hide his disdain for. Tears soon began to make (Y/N)'s eyes shimmer in the dim glow the vanity light offered, once the shock and horror had worn away. Her knees weakened as she waited for what she believed was Rex's inevitable agreement and harsh comments of criticism. (Y/N) at least hoped he'd be the one to finally voice what he truly thought of her, about the imperfections and flaws she knew everyone could see, and made fun of her.
"I liked the blue dress you wore when we first met" voiced Rex. Recalling the silky cobalt blue dress well, it had silver accessories and a light petal-like overcoat. Rex had mistakenly believed she was queen from an outer rim world, only to be corrected by Echo, who explained she was a senator and one that supported clone rights. Often being the voice, that prevented the clone's needs and rights from being completely ignored. "You're being too hard on yourself Princessa" commented the Captain of the 501st, as he gently took hold of her hands, and pulled her from her seat on the closed toilet. Pulling her to stand before the mirror in front of him. To face the object she hated so much. "Point out what you see as a flaw and I'll tell you what I see" challenged the great captain, noticing (Y/N) staring at him through the mirror, as if trying to figure out if he was joking or being his normal doting self.
"My eyes, they're oddly shaped and the color doesn't match" whispered (Y/N), pointing to her reflection, still with the mindset the mirror never lied, even if the people around her did. Rex simply turned to look at her closely, shaking his head before placing a gentle kiss on both of her eyelids. Hearing a small giggle escape her. "My nose, is too big, there's a bump on the bridge, and it's crooked, nothing seems to make it look right" she continued, watching via the mirror as Rex lifted a hand to gently stroke his fingers around her nose, wiggling it slightly, with a childish smile placed firmly on his lips.
"Nope, no bump there. and if it is crooked, it's likely from the bar fight you got into the night we met" exclaimed Rex, recalling the night so clearly. Even now he still struggled with the idea of such an elegant lady hiding such a tough secret. He still felt sorry for the civvi to have been on the receiving end of her anger and the shoe upside the head. "Your shoulders are knotted from bearing the weight of a war few others see. And your hands are perfect, do you remember when you slapped that senator silly for his comments" spoke Rex, his rough callous hands on her smooth shoulders, feeling her relax, as she began to see through the flaws, seeing what he could see.
"None of my dresses can hide my stomach. Most of them make me look bloated and frumpy" began (Y/N), as her hands reached for her clothed stomach, grabbing at the area she was convinced she needed to lose weight from, that and her hips and thighs. Rex simply shook his head, before turning her to face him, upon doing so, he got to his knees and wrapped his arms around her torso. Pressing his lips to her stomach, in a sweet gesture only a lover could do.
"Do you remember what you said to me when I told you I was insecure about my blonde hair?" asked Rex, from his place on his knees before her, untangling her arms from her and once again intertwining their fingers. His honey eyes never once left her soft manicured hands. He waited patiently for her to voice those same words, even more so when he so often drew confidence from them, and sometimes reiterated them to cadets who felt as he had.
"You're blonde hair isn't a flaw, it's a gift. It makes you unique. Don't be ashamed of what makes you different. Embrace it" whispered (Y/N), as she recalled the words, as if she'd spoken them just the day before. At the same time, she pulled Rex back to his feet, seeing nothing but love glowing in his honey eyes. Seeing nothing but warm affection radiating from him. He was the most perfect man she knew and spent most days wondering how she'd been so lucky.
"Whether you realize it or not. You'll always be perfect to me Princessa" whispered Rex, placing a soft kiss on her temple and working his way to every place she'd pointed out as a flaw, occasionally whispering what made her perfect to him. What made her the queen he still believed she was? Only being willed to continue on by her sweet giggles and the familiar smile returning to her painted lips.
