List of tanned and dark skinned characters in Granblue Fantasy
Since i created the list of LGBTQ+ characters in granblue i wanted to make more, and this is one of them.
The list will be in alfabetical order, and I will mostly be including playable characters and summons with some special mentions, also some of these chars are slightly tanned, i'll mark them as (ST) so don't shine a light on them or you'll scare their melanin away.
Beware spoilers. Did not include characters that are only tanned in their Summer or so versions. Also original characters only, no collabs.

Nezahualpilli (ST) [his pains me the most, because he is based of an actual person that lived in the XV century, his grandfather was Ixtlilxóchitl Ometochtli and his son was Ixtlilxóchitl II (christian name Hernando Cortés Ixtlilxóchitl), Ixtlilxochitl in nahuatl means "dark face flower" at least that was the best i was able to translate it into english from spanish, so it makes sense for them to be a dark skinned family. I'm not an expert, just Mexican and passionate about our culture, so feel free to correct me]

If you squint hard enough maybe the next ones are tanned:
Magisa [tanned vibes]
Paris [tanned vibes]
Petra [in my mind she is tan, but comparing her skin tone to other characters i realized her skin is pretty light]
Yuel [same as Petra, because she is next to Societte the palest of them sacred foxes her skin looks darker in comparison]
Special mentions:
All Kahuans, as seen in the Paliuli Pararaiha event, have tanned/dark skin, to name one we have Felluca, Queen of Kahua and Nemone and Melleau's sister.
Geo [not playable but i don't want him to take down my blog iykyk]
The case of the lightening of some characters the higher their rarity goes will forever be a mystery (or will it?)
I'm looking at you Anna, Feather, Volena, etc.

Go to Egypt and Experience Both Modern And Ancient Wonders
The landmarks and secrets of this old district have been known for millennia and today remain a top objective for voyagers. This noteworthy nation is an extension of Africa and the Middle East and is home to sanctuaries, pyramids, and burial places, as well as clamoring current urban communities. Egypt excursion packages incorporate the old marvels of the Pharaohs, yet also top-notch retreats, cafés, and lodgings. It is challenging to see all that this nation offers in a single brief excursion, and first-time guests frequently find that gathering tours can offer the most benefit. They showcase Egypt as often as possible with trips that include airfare and ground transportation, and the majority of the elements are familiar in your native language. Many individuals feel more comfortable in a group setting, and an arranged tour can squeeze the most sights into a restricted time period.
There are, in a real sense, many Egypt Travel packages to look over. First, people who travel back and forth in time can limit their choices by doing some preliminary research to determine which might most interest them in the long run. Knowing the foundation of these old locales makes a visit more pleasant and rejuvenates history. Tour options and styles include a mix of grand, notable, and even opulent getaways. The Nile Waterway is the soul of this nation and has supported this district all along. Nile travel frequently starts in Cairo with a visit to the pyramids at Giza and Saqqara. Some include excursions to Alexandria and, more frequently, the Abu Simbel Sanctuary in Aswan. From Aswan, extravagance travelers investigate the Aswan High Dam before showing up in Luxor and the mythical Valley of the Lords.
The best time to take a Nile voyage is during the colder months, between October and April. Summers in this desert locale are uniformly sweltering, yet the most lavish voyage lodges resemble drifting lodgings and feature elemental cooling as well as confidential washrooms. For those looking for a more bona fide experience, traveling by felluca, or old Egyptian boat, is suggested. Guests frequently have the option of proceeding overland to the Red Ocean, which includes the most up-to-date retreats along what is becoming known as the "Red Ocean Riviera." This growing tourist area is known for its celebrity swimming and jumping, as well as its ultra-modern extravagance offices. These hotels invite guests with a wide selection of exercises and can incorporate dinners and facilities.
The prices range from extravagant to frugal; however, the sights are the same regardless of the cost. Almost all tours include arrival and flight assistance, as well as cooled transportation to and from airports. Individual refreshments, tips, and different tips are generally excluded, and any side outings through the air are the voyager's liability. Egypt excursion packages offer something for almost any explorer. Early arrangements are the most ideal way to guarantee seeing every one of the significant sights without burning through any time or cost, and it also makes choosing the best tour package easier. Whenever you have decided which areas should be visited, visit one of the numerous sites that offer Egypt travel packages and find one that suits your travel budget. offering breathtaking Nile cruises for you and your loved ones!

Looking from the Outside (Marc Spector x Bakunawa!Reader pt.3)
a/n: i've yeeted myself out for a couple of weeks but i'm back full-force with a lot of ANGST in my goodie update bag. brace yourselves.
Prev: III. Marc pt.2 | Next: IV. Jake pt.1 | AU Masterlist
warnings: ANGST; arthur harrow; hurt, no comfort (yet); marc is emotionally constipated; allusion to manipulation; non-canon Philippine mythology; non-canon depiction of babaylans (Filipino shamans)
“I hope you like attention.”
You peered over Marc’s shoulder to see Layla smugly sipping on a bag of cola.
“Layla, what the hell are you doing here? You shouldn’t be here. How did you even—?”
Marc slowly turned back to you, unamused.
😬😬😬
“Come with me. I’ll help you find what you need.”
Layla led you to where she parked her jeep, but before you could hop inside, Marc shut the door and roughly pulled you to the side.
“You should’ve told me. Or at least told Steven.”
“Well, I’m sorry, but you haven’t given Steven control for the past week, Marc.”
“That is not what I mean.”
You lowered your head and began picking at your worn-out nails, starting to feel the shame set in.
“I never planned to tell Steven about Bakunawa. I didn’t know about him being… well, part of Khonshu’s Avatar… but I swear, I would never hurt him.”
“I know you won’t, but he would, and he did.”
What is he trying to say? You felt like you knew. You just hoped you were wrong.
“I. Won’t. Hurt. Steven. Ever,” you said in your last desperate measure.
For a moment, Marc looked conflicted. His eyes kept straying, watching distractedly at his surroundings. He closed his eyes, clenching his jaw as he swallowed roughly.
“I want you to go back to London. Layla and I will find the sarcophagus. We’ll take it from here.”
Your face dropped, your heart sinking along with it. You knew he had good reason to despise you. What he said was the truth.
You were a danger to Steven.
“You understand?” Marc asked.
“That’s not really your decision, Marc,” Layla, who was listening all along, interrupted, sticking her head out of the driver’s window. “She’s with me.”
You reluctantly followed Layla’s lead and sat beside her in the passenger seat.
As the car moved, you let the wind blow away your tears before they trickled down your cheeks.
You knew Marc kept a watchful eye on you, but you refused to return his gaze from the side mirror.
Layla brought you to a dock where a felluca boat waited. Three of you boarded without question, and soon, a party arrived shortly before the boat sailed down the river.
You kept a considerate distance between Marc and Layla who were talking in hushed tones.
“I’m here for me and for everyone else who would die if Harrow succeeds.”
“Copy that.”
“That includes,” Layla paused to point at you with her eyes. You pretended to not notice and continue chatting with the teta who was talking about a wedding.
“Harrow has his eyes on her, you know. I can’t just leave her in London with all his followers sniffing around.”
“You’re a good person, Layla,” Marc said both in a pained and genuine tone.
Before you could listen further, the party turned up the volume and got on their feet to dance, inviting along two other passengers.
“Wait, I can’t dance like you guys!”
The teta ignored you and began swaying you to the same beat she did.
Layla and Marc both watched you, the former with a fond gaze as you awkwardly tried moving with as much grace as possible without Bakunawa’s help of agility.
You cheered alongside them with your own whoop-whoops when some of them made high-pitched ululation to continue celebrating.
You looked back to Layla and Marc and saw them in a much deeper conversation, their hands intertwined.
At that moment, the truth hit you like a bucket filled with cold ice.
You were the outsider.
You were the one who meddled inside their relationship.
You just didn’t belong.
Just like you didn’t really belong in this wedding celebration.
You just happened to be there.
Just like you just happened to be there when Steven was alone in that restaurant.
You just happened to be drawn to Steven because he was connected to the moon.
It was all just circumstance and not because you made it to be.
“Love problems?” the teta’s grandson asked, noticing the loneliness in your eyes as you stared at the married couple.
“My boyfriend and I just broke up.”
…
“’Stay here and hide. The snake is asleep. Meh, meh, meh,’” you muttered defiantly to yourself as you peered through the treeline by the docks, watching them descend to the massively guarded estate. “Eat shit, Marc.”
You were perched up a tree when you saw a rowboat dock from the riverside. Harrow’s followers.
Which meant Harrow was nearby. Probably inside the estate already.
You could tell these two men were looking for you.
You slowly slid down the trunk, careful not to make any noise as you silently moved behind them.
Grabbing the base of their neck, you whispered in a melodic tone, “Shh, tulog na [Go to sleep].” Their bodies turned lifeless as they fell into a deep slumber, dropping into the ground like a pile of bricks.
Click!
“You should be ashamed misusing your healing powers like that.”
Well, shit.
Harrow and his men kept you at gunpoint as he led you to the estate, the very place Marc and Layla told you to stay clear of.
You hated every slow step he took. Not to mention the overwhelming smell of blood around him. A constant aura of torment and pain.
“Whatever they've told you, I'm sure I can offer you something much more tangible.”
“I’m sorry,” you mouthed to Layla who was also held at gunpoint along with Marc.
“Anton, he’s gonna kill millions. Trust me!” “Are you seriously talking about trust?!”
“Each one of you has so much more in common than you know,” Harrow interrupted, his calm voice set a juxtaposition in the tensioned air.
“Layla, your husband doesn’t tell you the truth.
“And Marc, you don't tell her because you know that if you do, she'll see you exactly as you see yourself, as unworthy of love.
“And you, langga [darling], your place isn’t with them, and you know it. In fact, you just realized it, didn’t you? Back at the ferry?
“You need not be ashamed of your gift. You are meant for something greater. Right beside a greater goddess.
“Someone who can free you from this curse.”
next update (saturday, 10 pht) will be a full written chapter. snippet down below.
Maybe you were destined to be alone, to be cursed. You were cursed the moment your powers emerged. Before Bakunawa, before the initiation rites, before everything…
“You know, he’s trying to get in your mind,” Marc spoke up, both to you and Layla. “Don’t let him do that. He’s got this idea that he can see the true nature of people or some baloney like that.”
“So, it’s not true? What he said about you and—”
“No, it’s not true,” Marc cut Layla off rather quickly. “He’s just trying to divide us. Don’t let him get in your head.”
“He already did,” you mumbled, too low for them to hear. The farther Layla drove from the city, the more you wanted to jump out of the moving vehicle and hop on the first plane back to London. Away from Harrow, away from Khonshu, away from Layla and Marc.
Away from Steven.

Shipshapes for dt2
We’re working on a video game! It’s called DT2, and it’s a visual novel that takes place after the business of averting the apocalypse. One of the questions it demanded we answer is: what kind of ship would you sail into the underworld?
For Io, our protagonist, it's the Oneiric, a gift they received many years ago from a king they instated. It's a luxury ship, a symbol of gratitude and flagrant wealth. It's also the home base of the crew, where they player departs and returns, and which weathers the journey alongside them. This one constant is very important! So what does it look like?
I did a fair amount of exploration with tall ships and the traditional Greek square sheeted sailboats, but the ones that resonated the most were triangular lateen sails akin to Indian dhows or Egyptian fellucas. The Styx is a river of a sort, after all, and the trip is ostensibly a victory lap with a small crew, so something between a river boat and a voyager isn’t the most unreasonable choice.
It started to come together with the sketch below. I told Evan sometimes twelve good lines is all you need:
The ship itself makes...well, let's be generous and say, a variable amount of sense. I'm not really worried about it as a real place in the interior; it's a goofy enough shape already, very broad-shouldered and alternately sitting very low in the water and hanging very high above it. It would probably be a very slow and annoying boat to steer! It's primarily driven by the rule of cool. I like the way this wheel mechanism works, so it takes up the whole of the top deck. I want the back of the boat to have a captain's quarters like a tallship, and I want the floors below deck to have pretty high ceilings. This thing probably looks like an iceberg under the surface! At least it's probably pretty stable.
It was the primary thing I illustrated in the prototype we sent to Indiecade, for both interiors and exteriors, and one of the first assets I designed over the course of the project.
Right now, in the uneasy limbo between submission and acceptance (c'mon Indiecade! be cool!) the Oneiric has been my testing ground for styles. All of that is still cooking, so keep an eye out for that in future updates.

This refugee’s heart still belongs in Egypt
Viviane Bowell used her free time during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020 to write her memoirs of her country of birth, Egypt. From Egypt with love is a deeply personal, thoughtful work with not a trace of bitterness. Lyn Julius reviews the book in Times of Israel:
In 1956, one of the famous hit songs of the time was ‘Que será será. The song is indelibly associated with the Suez crisis in a 14-year old Jewish girl’s memory. It may have been a footnote in most history books, but the crisis of 1956 turned Viviane Bowell’s life upside down.
Viviane was a shy and awkward teenager, cocooned from the outside world by her parents. She only spoke French and Arabic. Within a month of the Franco-British-Israeli attack on the Suez Canal, the family was forced to leave their native Cairo. Jews of British and French nationality were punished as ‘collateral damage’ in politics. Viviane’s mother was British, and it soon appeared that any Jew (Viviane’s father was stateless) was fair game for expulsion. Viviane’s parents signed a ‘voluntary’ paper ‘donating’ their property to the Egyptian state. They left with 20 kg and 20 Egyptian pounds in their pockets while their tearful servants bid them goodbye. From a warm, dusty and bustling metropolis they were catapulted in the bleak British midwinter into a Gloucestershire hostel serving pork sausages and boiled cabbage. Resettled in London, her parents never spoke about Egypt, yet only socialised with other Egyptian Jews.
It was during the coronavirus lockdown that Viviane decided to set down what he remembered of Egypt. The manuscript was originally intended for her grandson but then became a popular self-published memoir.
There has been an explosion of memoirs by Jews from Egypt, mostly middle class Jews displaced by the Suez crisis. Viviane Bowell appears to have read most of them. She conjures up a rich picture of the Cairo of her youth, the fellucas on the Nile, the grand avenues, the department stores, the famous tea room Groppi, where her parents met for the first time, the languid summers on the beach in Alexandria. She includes some important historical context, as well as interesting diversions into superstitions and the popular songs and films of the time.
Viviane’s family on her father’s side, the Chouchans, was Ladino-speaking Sephardi, originally from Toledo via Istanbul. Her mother’s family, the Gubbays, were Arabic-speakers from Aleppo in Syria. They typified the Jews of Egypt, drawn from disparate corners of the Ottoman empire, most relatively recent arrivals attracted by the opening of the Suez canal in 1869. But the Jews lived in Egypt, says Viviane, ‘like a grafted limb’ – of Egypt, yet apart from it.
In charting the gathering storm leading up to her uprooting Viviane dwells on the events of 25 January 1952. The Free Officers’ Revolution does not largely figure in Jewish memoirs – but it was a seminal moment. It began as a reaction to 40 policemen killed by the British. Viviane watched from her apartment balcony as a furious crowd swept down her street, setting fire to large sections of Cairo – including Groppi, the Cicurel and Orosdi Bak department stores, Barclays Bank, cinemas, cafes, banks, and the Shepheard Hotel – where British officers used to sip their gin slings. The red tarboush worn by effendi(gentlemen) was abolished overnight and substantial sectors of the economy nationalised. Five thousand Jews left between 1952 and 1956. But Viviane’s family would not have left had they not have been forced to.
Unlike many other memoirs, Viviane’s examines the psychological effects of uprooting on her later life. ‘From Egypt with love’ tries to make sense of how her ambivalent relationship with her parents impacted on her. In many ways she was a repressed feminist. Her failure to break free of traditional ties resulted in a succession of missed opportunities, a broken marriage and a nervous breakdown.
Visiting Cairo 40 years later, Viviane hardly recognises her home city, yet acknowledges that ‘the past defines us and makes us who we are today.’ Her story is that of 850,000 Jews driven from Arab countries. There is an irrepressible optimism about the book – The refugees were survivors, not victims.. ‘A calamity is only a calamity when your response to it is to accept victimhood,’ she writes. Although her family lived in a social bubble, her heart still belongs in Egypt. In this thoughtful, deeply personal and well-researched memoir, there is no trace of bitterness, just an acceptance, and a certain cheerful fatalism: ‘Que será será’.
To Egypt with love : memories of a bygone age by Viviane Bowell (2021)

If they ever rerun Paliuli Pararaiha and they DON'T make Felluca playable I am going to shit PROFUSELY. Like probably the only reason they DIDN'T in the original run was its release date clashed with the first holiday banner of the year (so we got Holiday Nemone instead), a rerun would have NO EXCUSE unless they just so happened to rerun it in the Middle Of Fucking December (or it starts after the flash gala is released, like with this ongoing rerun of the Sturm/Drang event, rip donnabros)

MWW Artwork of the Day (9/4/21) Mahmoud Said (Egyptian, 1897-1964) Sunset on the Nile at Luxor (1945) Oil on canvas, 64 x 79.7 cm. Private Collection
Mahmoud Said, also known as “Alexandria’s paintbrush,” is one of Egypt’s most iconic painters, whose images of dancers, dervishes and nudes propelled him to the front of the modern art movement his his country. This wonderfully evocative landscape incorporates with extraordinary fluidity many of Mahmoud Said's beloved motifs. The elegant veiled woman bearing a jar, recalling the work of Mokhtar; fellucas, those quintessentially Egyptian vessels with their abstracted triangular sales; the dreamy play of light from the sky to the water, with its harmony of color, making both seem of the same essence. Underlying all of this is the Said's rigorous sense of geometry. As is typical of his paintings, the interplay of verticals and diagonals lend the composition a sense of dynamism and movement. (compiled from multiple sources)

i think what really bugs me about it is how its written from this very weird conservative position. which makes sense bc japan, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying.
We are told in detail how Felluca ended her nations wars, improved foreign relations, and found a way to use her nations famous skills in combat as a way to make profit for them that she could use to enrich her country. She found a way to make her country richer and more prosperous WHILE ending her wars and creating peace. But none of that matters, the narrative says, because she doesn’t respect the traditions. She has to be brought low, she has to be taught a lesson, and redeem herself.
This is a narrative where Felluca gets manipulated by her closest advisor, where she gets overthrown by her senate, where she gets betrayed by the same sister who originally forced her to become the leader, and yet SHE’S the one who has to beg for forgiveness from everyone. all of her policy successes don’t matter because she didn’t respect ~the traditions~.
Idk, for some reason in 2020 i don’t have a lot of patience for narratives that pretend playing nice with conservatives traditions is more important then actually materially improving people’s lives.
#shoutout to that one beast that was like 'do you want us to just kill them for you? we could just murder these traitors for you y'know'#that was the one id want to ride bc she knew this was some bullshit#granblue fantasy#gbf#criticism

I still need to read the new Granblue event properly and not just the story skip summaries, but the big problem I’m seeing with it based on other people’s comments are that Granblue in this event basically wanted to write about colonialism without actually having to write about and grapple with colonialism, so the story ends up coming off as just this feel-good nonsense where the right side looks bad because Granblue couldn’t commit to the themes it’s bringing up. The whole plot would’ve made way more sense had it actually committed to Felluca committing some serious violence against her culture and people, and the senate resorted to drastic measures because their entire culture was at risk of being completely wiped out, but then also if Granblue did that they’d have to use fantasy metaphor to actually talk about colonialism and the horrible consequences it has and how indigenous tribes around the globe are fighting to keep their traditions in languages alive after centuries of colonial powers trying to kill them, and there’s no way in hell cygames would actually do that in their lighthearted fantasy jrpg story. They can’t even properly address that their setting is canonically racist against draphs!!!!!!!!
Also I’m really not a fan of the recurring theme in comments both on here and on reddit that Felluca was totally right to try and wipe out her culture and its traditions because the tribe was a bunch of murderous amazons in the past, I’m white and even I’m getting massive red flags with how Cygames framed the tribe and how conversations surrounding the event give of vibes of “the Aztecs did bad things and therefore totally deserved the Spanish colonizing them”, like what the fuck guys, I thought people knew better than to say shit like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
