Hello my fellow souls,

Welcome back to Danbi’s Room, your weekly dose of safe space. Grab a cup of something warm and get yourself cosy.

The past one was exam week, concluded with an amazing but very demanding workshop, so I hope you will forgive me if I, once again, share a revisited piece from a while ago. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

What I’m presenting to you today is just the raw product of thoughts I chewed on a lot at the time, but to be completely honest reflecting on these themes is still part of my daily routine. We could even say they constitute a good part of my personal artistic research. It’s a synthesis, a declaration of intent, a manifesto: it’s what I believe in.

Beauty and Art are not a privilege. They can’t be. Nor can be Quality. They must all be accessible to each and every one.

Excluding what is actually the majority of the world population from Beauty, Quality and Art is a form of oppression.

This can be seen in every aspect of life: the venomous constitution of food, the ghettoization of public housing and the inefficiency in provinding proper public education and universal healthcare.

The fact you have access to art forms only if you’re in a privileged position. Most people can’t afford even dreaming about Art being part of their lives. And this borders dystopia considering that Art, Expression, Communication are our very core. When we do actually have the ease to not be crushed by today’s inhuman way of living the first things we do are resting, loving each other and making Art. That makes me think a lot, and I would be curious to know your perspective.

Now, I don’t have the power to solve all of this. Certainly not alone. But humans are not animals who act alone, right? We always talk about that here.

I want and I will be one of the bricks that is restores our ancestral home.

Various forms of Art serve various purposes: they can open portals, heal, help living in a new dimension. Art gives a body, a manifestation to our spiritual realm. Artists, Creatives, so every human being, are the channel through which a particular aspect of the multitude, that is otherwise unintelligible to our senses, is able to be perceived.

It gives us the opportunity to get a hint, a sensation, the impression transported to our nervous system, the real aesthetics, perception.

Awareness of the interconnected Universe.

Awareness that there’s more to life than what we’re used to think. There’s more joy, and passion and raw feeling and beauty and love. We can be the vessels of this message, the flesh through which the Universe spreads, one again but in a new wonderful way.

Speaking of space, today’s song recommendation is Moonlight, by CORBYN. Maybe it’s just me, but I believe it manages to show a glimpse of this multitude.

Ep. 5 - Can I Hold On For Another Night?

Welcome back to Danbi’s Room, your weekly dose of safe space. Grab a cup of something warm and get yourself cosy.

These days I’m very busy with upcoming exams, so I decided to share with you an old piece of mine, revisited for the day. I hope you like it.

This season, the birth of the new light of the year, should be a sweet interlude of nurturing the darkness we’re letting go of in order to fully welcome the waxing Sun. The chaos of the world has readjusted itself to give space the the rebirth of light. Despite this times of awakening, we are witnessing so much pain, suffering, blind violence. More than ever we must stick together, be loving, compassionate and aware of our community, of our calling to be active members of our pack.

As we said in previous episodes, be careful: not passive brainless pawns in a herd, but unique and necessary participants of this world, shining manifestations of Nature.

We need to feel the community, to feel we are all part of this. We are a grain of sand in this limitless universe, but we wouldn’t be the same if even just one of our microscopic atoms wasn’t there.

This omnipresent duality is what we forgot and what we need to learn again as it is the essence of the world, flowing in it, flowing in the sacred river of our energy is what lets us live. Only a few of us are actually living, our claws are clenched on something that’s actually as futile and vanishing as the quick smoke of a candle that’s just been blown out.

Letting go, surrendering is way more difficult than slaughtering our hands to tighten around illusion. It requires every type of strength you can think of. Letting it flow and enjoying the storm rather than looking at a still muddy pond. What does the little pond in our core say? What makes its waters move and mix and be cleared? What makes it alive? What allows its liquid of life descend in the recesses of the Earth’s womb to join the holy waters that gloriously climb back to the golden sun? It is one of the beginning of humans as themselves.

The primordial silence, the primordial obscurity through which we dance towards life.

Fog doesn’t let us see, but we can do everything else until we’ve listened enough to be ready to make our eyes absorb light again.

But it in any case we must remember that, again, there is a moment to be alone and a moment to sustain ourselves on a trunk letting the stream carry us to the waterfall who is preceding calm and warm waters. A moment to stand and a moment to lean on.

There can be no discipline without acceptance, no calm without a deep feeling of whatever emotion comes to inhabit our body. No birth without death and no death without birth. Everything is a circle, a cycle: look at water, the essence of life, its lymph. Everything is different yet the same, microcosm and macrocosm, neuronal cells and the stars.

The stars. In the end we are all dead stars coming from the same little globe of matter, instinctively trying to find our old companions. We’ve always been here and always will, just in different forms.

I will conclude by thanking Chris again, the man that inspired this space and houses such a beautiful soul inside his body.

Secondly, starting from today, I will recommend a song: this time it’s Malibu Nights by Lany. It’s about new feelings and loneliness. Feel it, but always remember the pack.

"We met when we were cast with small parts in that really boring play, so had both brought the crossword to stop us going mad. We saw each other across the rehearsal room doing it, so decided to sit together. Then we couldn’t record because of the strike one day so we went to the cinema, Pru and I, to see The Grass is Greener with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. The show was cancelled, but a bit later Pru sent me a card saying ‘they’re reviving that terrible play, are you in it?’ I wasn’t but we started writing to each other then."

I was in tech class when I pitched a comic idea to my friends and now we're here. I can't remember if anything was mentioned between Michikatsu and other sun breathers in canon (ik Kokushibo ran a killing spree on them but not anything before that), but something tells me he would not have been pleased to know someone else learned it before he could.

The guy lived, don't worry 👍. At the request of the insta followers, he has a name: Takashi Kuwabara (久和原 宇志). The guy talking to Michi also has a name. Tadaki Noumi (能美 忠喜) is from my Sengoku Era Hashira cast. Anyways Kuwabara is probably going to retire very soon 💀

Also I promise I don't think Michi is an unreasonable rage freak , I just have more fun drawing aggression. If anything, compared to other sketches I've done and have planned, this is one of those rare annual outbursts. Considering how Michi and Kokushibo talk about strength and posturing like a swordsman, I feel like he'd be curt but professional a lot of the time anyway. Maybe next on my list should be drawing him chilling tf out o(￣▽￣)ｄ
