Walpurgis Night. Hexennacht. April 30.
A Short History of the Night of the Witches The origins of the image of Walpurgis night being a witches’ sabbath are unclear. However, it is striking that it coincides with Beltane and maybe other pagan festivals in earlier time. Goethe presumed in one of his poems such an origin.
St. Walpurga For Christians, Walpurgisnacht is also known as the Feast of Saint Walpurga, that is celebrated from the evening of April 30 to the day of May 1st. Saint Walpurga or Walburga was the daughter of St. Richard the Saxon Pilgrim and sister of St. Willibald and St. Winibald. When her father went on a pilgrimage with her two brothers to the Holy Land, he left Walpurga, who was only 11 years old at the time, with the nuns of Wimborne Abbey, where she was educated and learnt how to write.
She traveled in an attempt to bring German pagans to the Christian faith and she also authored Winibald’s biography, which is why she is considered as one of the first female authors in Germany and England. Walpurga became a nun in Heidenheim am Hahnenkamm, the monastery founded by her brother Willibald, where she became the abbess after his death in 751. Walpurga herself died on February 25 on 777 or 779 and she was canonized by Pope Adrian II on May 1st, around 870, when her relics were transfered to Eichstätt, Germany.
St. Walpurga is prayed to for protection against witchcraft and it is believed that during the night of April 30, she is able to ward off spells, witches, and evil spirits. This belief may stem from the overlapping of her canonization with Hexennacht or the Night of the Witches, the celebration that has its origin in ancient fertility celebrations. Hexennacht is a Germanic tradition more prevalent in the 17th century, when witches and sorcerers gathered together celebrate.
To protect against their magic, the Western Christian Church appointed the night of April 30 to St. Walpurga’s Feast. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Walpurgisnacht was popularized and its witchy connotations were revived through the literature of the time, such as in Jacob Grimm’s work who wrote in 1833: “There is a mountain very high and bare… whereon it is given out that witches hold their dance on Walpurgis night”.
Goethe also dedicated a poem to the celebration called “Die erste Walpurgisnacht” (The First Walpurgis Night), which was set to music by Felix Mendelssohn and published as his Opus 60 in 1843. The poem contrasts sharply with the Walpurgisnacht described in his main work “Faust”. In his ballad, Goethe relates the superstitions around Walpurgis night to the usage of devil’s masks by pagan’s in order to exploit the superstitions of their Christian suppressors and to protect their identities.

*offers you some of your favorite tea * any Feligami thoughts today, my dear?
HI LUCKY I HAD TO RESCUE THIS FROM THE PIT OF PHANTOM ASKS
I am always swimming in Feligami thoughts and feelings and general insanity! Today I offer you this:
Felix writes about the two of them constantly, because of course he does. And since he can’t be normal about anything in his life, he explores a different literary genre for each side of their Love Square:
As we already know, Feligami (in the strictest sense of the term) is theatre with a hint of fairy tale aesthetic. It’s about putting on a show and taking off their masks; it’s about fighting forces beyond their control to write their own happy ending.
Argami is prose poetry, inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s Le Spleen de Paris: breaking free from conventions, finding beauty in what others would deem worthless — even monstrous.
On the other end, Ryargos is best represented through epyllions, or short epic poems. Felix pulls all the stops: alexandrins, rimes riches, glorious epithets he came up with himself. The point is to celebrate Ryuko’s exploits and to reaffirm his commitment to his newfound heroism.
Finally, Relix is an epistolary novel: all the letters Felix wrote as a child to an unknown recipient, begging to be read — to be saved.
Tumblr media
Rumour has it that he is also working on a Flairmidable x Bakeneko (Cat Kagami) musical. His girlfriend will neither confirm nor deny.
Thanks for the tea! 💜🍵❤️

"The Black Bird" (1975)
The stuff dreams are made of.
The kind of dreams you have when you pass out on the sofa after O.D.-ing on Cheetos, Mike's, and unrelated movies from wildly different eras.
Tumblr media
If you're a fan of the film noir classic "the Maltese Falcon" from 1941, you may have heard about 1975's failed attempt at a comedy sequel, called "the Black Bird." Well, it's on YouTube for free, I watched it on Friday, and I actually enjoyed it.
Before you let this change your opinion, you should probably know that I also enjoyed "Meet the Feebles," "Leprechaun in Space," and "Lord of the G-Strings."
It's a '70s exploitation film (whether intentionally or not)
If you want a truly funny comedy worthy of Mel Brooks, you'll probably hate this movie. If you want a serious tribute to "the Maltese Falcon," you'll definitely hate it. But if you enjoy bad '70s exploitation flicks, you might actually find "the Black Bird" amusing.
If you're unfamiliar with the term, "exploitation films" were a genre from the '70s and '80s. Usually over the top (for the time) in violence and vulgarity, exploitation films pandered to things like shock value, or revenge fantasies for minorities (leading to the "Blaxploitation" genre).
"The Black Bird" is not a particularly violent movie. Instead of exploiting violence, sex or any minority group, "the Black Bird" exploits a famous classic. While there's no nudity and almost no blood, it has many other staples of a classic '70s exploitation flick: mismatched buddy-cop relationships, bad acting, awkward sound dubbing, face-palming racial humor, vaguely Disco-ish music (when there is any music), funky '70s fashion, and a Nazi dwarf (Felix Silla).
Tumblr media
Lest you forget that this is a '70s movie.
If you're entertained by "Blackula," "Lisztomania," "They Saved Hitler's Brain," "Gums," or any of Ralph Bakshi's earlier films, "the Black Bird" might be up your alley.
The Plot:
Tumblr media
34 years after the events of "The Maltese Falcon," Kasper Gutman is shot dead, after apparently living to be around 100 (and at his weight!). His dying words: "It's black, and long as your arm." Frankly, I can think of no better sentence to illustrate the transition from classic '40s noir to the new lowbrow grit of the 70s.
Tumblr media
On the case is Sam Spade Jr. (George Segal), whose surname is the source of many a racial punchline. To be fair, Sam Jr. says in-universe that he's tired of hearing that joke every five minutes. Junior has herited his father's name, job and secretary. Lee Patrick revises her role as Effie, who Spade Jr. calls "Godzilla."
Tumblr media
Her character is possibly the only thing that is unironically great about this movie. The sassy young Effie aging into a draconian old lady would be believable and wonderful even in a serious sequel.
Elisha Cook Jr. also returns as Wilmer, but only for one scene.
Tumblr media
If you wanted Wilmer to live to a ripe old age....well he did. But if you wanted him to die in a cabin in the woods surrounded by birds, after having gone straight for the last 30 years of his life, this might disappoint you. But it's probably closer to how a gunslinger like Wilmer would've wanted to go.
Tumblr media
The new femme fatale is Anna Kemindov (Stéphane Audran), daughter of the unseen general from the first movie. I can't say that her character's motivations made much sense, but she does sport some funky 70s fashion and one sweet-ass hideout.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Good
Much of the dumb humor made me laugh, even when I saw it coming a mile away. The running gag about Spade Jr.'s old car entertained the Muppet fan in me, and the "stand up Spade" moment was worthy of "Blazing Saddles." The final ending gag was the most predictable and unoriginal joke in the entire film, but something about the shark's face and how it moved was just hilarious.
One thing I unironically really liked was how in the dark Spade Jr. was regarding the Maltese Falcon. He knows it was his dad's biggest case, but doesn't care. He isn't familiar with the names Wilmer Cook, Kasper Gutman or Admiral Kemindov, and can't keep them straight. And he doesn't recognize any of the Easter eggs Wilmer, Anna or Effie drop into their dialogue.
Missed Opportunites:
I would really have liked at least one reference to Joel Cairo, and can't believe a movie of this type passed up the opportunity to have someone do a bad Peter Lorre impression while recounting past events.
There's also no mention of Brigid O'Shaughnessy, nor who Spade Jr.'s mother is. Having Brigid give birth to Jr. in prison and then more or less discard him would have fit perfectly into Spade Jr.'s backstory, and the movie's style of black comedy.
With the movie's vulgar humor, I'm also stunned that the word "gunsel" never came up when Spade Jr. was dealing with Wilmer. On that subject, more than one cameos from Wilmer would've been appreciated. But maybe Elisha Cook Jr. was only available for one scene.
Cannon?
The literal events onscreen are too ridiculous to truly take place in the same universe as "the Maltese Falcon." But I could imagine that a caper similar to this occurred, and is being recounted by a very sardonic, bitter, and drunk Spade Jr., who is embellishing and maybe misremembering.
Like, maybe the villain was really just a very short man with a Nazi history, who Spade Jr. is sarcastically remimagning as a literal dwarf in an S.S. uniform. Maybe Anna Kemindov just seemed a bit off to Jr, and his drunk mind is exaggerating her antics. Maybe when the jailer said "Get up Spade," Spade's Black cell mates just gave the jailer a look until realizing in awkward silence that it was the white guy's name. "The Black Bird" certainly seems like the story a bitter drunkard would be spinning.
The one thing Spade Jr. is not embellishing or misremembering though is "Godzilla." Effie is every bit the firey old lady portrayed onscreen. That, in my head, is 100% canon.

Kimisute main story [2部 ] Part 4
Side: Fantome Iris
[Fantome Iris live concert]
FELIX: Welcome… my endearing followers
FELIX: This is our utopia… a sacred kingdom lurking where the light does not reach
FELIX: Now, let us begin our evening banquet. Offer it! The proof of life that flows within… the red blood that lay within you..!
HARU: We won’t stop until every one of you raises their voices! So follow us ‘till the end!
ZACK: HYAHA !! WE’LL ******* GIVE YOU A ****** LIVE TO ****** TOO ! *
D: …Don’t go off the rails to hard
LIGHT: Then, shall we start. My Lord
FELIX: My followers, shout our name! With the reverence and awe you hold within you…
FELIX: We are…. 「Fantome Iris」!
- - - - - - -
FELIX: (As the vampire king who rules over all, FELIX…. To create music that brings joy to my followers, is my own joy)
FELIX: (I long shed my young heart that harbored a feeling of hatred towards vampires. I had indeed parted from it…. yet…)
FELIX: (Yet… lately I seem to have been getting more swayed by my inner thoughts…)
Tumblr media
???: (Then that is your weakness.)
FELIX: ( ….!?)
???: (Vampires are beings that drink the blood of living animals. Depleting others of their lifeforce, immersing themselves in the pleasure and exploitation of being that upper class.)
???: (You of all ones should know that so well. Since you’re the 「Child of a vampire」 after all…)
FELIX: ( Shut Up..! How Dare you interrupt this important banquet…!)
 - - - - - - -
HARU: (What’s wrong with FELIX….? He’s acting differently than usual…)
D: (His singing is wavering more than usual… I’d like to assume it’s on purpose but… it doesn’t seem that way)
LIGHT: (My Lord…? no…Feli-san?)
 - - - - - - -
???: (All of it! Take control over all of it! You don’t need to pay any heed to anyone else..!)
???: (If you truly title yourself the king of vampires, then act like one!)
FELIX: (gh… enough… that’s enough!)
 - - - - - - -
[Waiting room/Backstage]
ZACK: I feel like today’s live was kinda off script… Feli-san had this kind of intensity, that wasn’t there previously
ZACK: Intensity that was a little…too much…
D: Yeah…
HARU: …
FELIX: ….gh
LIGHT: Um…Feli-san..? Are you..okay?
 - - - - - - -
???: (You… You’re the king of vampires are you not?)
 - - - - - - -
FELIX: SHUT UP!
LIGHT: …!?
FELIX: ..to…Tomoru..!? I’m.. I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to yell I…
LIGHT: a..ah..no… I’m also in the wrong since I called you out of the blue... so...
FELIX: No, No Tomoru you’re not in the wrong. I…I didn’t mean to say that to you and…
D: …Felix, I think it’s best if you went back earlier
ZACK: I… I agree… Your fatigue is really building up so..!
FELIX: BUT I….no…. In this situation I should take everyone’s word for it…
LIGHT: Please do. We’ll clean up everything else after this
FELIX: Je suis désolée…  (I’m so sorry…)
.
--[Felix leaves]--
ZACK: I’ve never seen Felix-san so agitated before… what… what do you think happened…
HARU: ……..
LIGHT: Koharu-san?
HARU: mm? Whats up
LIGHT: No you just have a really serious expression at the moment…
HARU: Is that so? It’s nothing, forget it
D: …. For the time being, we should get ready to clean up
.
[Sharehouse]
Daimon: …where’s Felix?
Jun: He said that he needed some air so he… left for a bit
Daimon: I see…
Tomoru: …um. Both you and Koharu-san, have a suspicion as to why…don’t you?
Koharu: Why do you think so?
Tomoru: I don’t have any proof or anything but… since the incident in the waiting room… that’s just kind of been the vibe I picked up…
Jun: me…Me too! I’m also… worried so…
Jun: o-of course if you don’t wanna say anything I won’t pressure you so..!
Koharu: I see… well yeah, as expected… you guys would notice too
Koharu: It’s not that I have a suspicion… it’s more like…
Koharu: In the past… I had also once seen Feli act out like that…
.
.
*Frankly, I’m not exactly sure what ZACK was saying. Interpret the asterisks as you wish.

2023 CHARACTER WRAP
Share your top nine characters of this year.
I was tagged by @matbaynton (Thank you so much, Ireland 💖)
I don't have quite as much control as Ireland so I'm upping the Mat character limit to 5, though I could definitely fill the whole list with Mat characters if I wanted to.
Thomas Thorne, BBC Ghosts It's the last year for new Thomas content and that makes me ridiculously sad so he has to be here and in the number one spot.
Tumblr media
2. Ariel Conroy, You, Me and the Apocalypse Just downright one of the best Mat characters and I've had the pleasure of rewatching it again this year and exploiting Ariel many times during kinktober. He's just consistently my favourite Mat to play with.
Tumblr media
3. Jamie Winton, You, Me and the Apocalypse If I'm having Ariel, I'm having Jamie too, Ariel is nothing without Jamie and vice versa.
Tumblr media
4. Felix Fickelgruber, Wonka The newest and quite frankly a delightful Mat character. Mat is so good as this role and it's always refreshing to see him play a villain and also have a musical number?!??!
Tumblr media
5. Chris Pitt-Goddard, Spy Just another Mat character that I have particularly enjoyed exploiting this year, especially during Kinktober.
Tumblr media
6. Izaya Orihara, Durarara!! I don't know how my interest in Izaya suddenly came back and with full force but it has and it feels like I'm living in 2012 again and utterly, stupidly insane about him.
Tumblr media
7. Robin Hood, BBC Robin Hood Again, not sure how this came back into my life... well I am actually and it's because of @sherwood-outlaws and I can't say I expected to watch it twice in one year and not watching it for years and years but god, I loved this show and Robin in particular.
Tumblr media
8. Sebastian "Bash" de Poitiers, Reign Okay, I haven't finished this show yet but I fucking love Bash and I love my friend for introducing me to this show! He's so pretty!
Tumblr media
9. Pam Beesley, The Office Will there ever be a year where I don't re-watch The Office and fall in love with a different character each time?
Tumblr media
If you read through all of this, thank you! I hope you enjoyed! @sherwood-outlaws if you want to give it a go, I'd love to see you find GIFs for 9 different Robin Hood characters 🤣

Patty Mullen in Frankenhooker (Frank Henenlotter, 1990)
Cast: James Lorinz, Patty Mullen, Joanne Ritchie, Paul-Felix Montez, Joseph Gonzalez, J.J. Clark, Gregory Martin, Carissa Channing, Shirl Bernheim, Hannah York, Helmar Augustus Cooper, Heather Hunter, Louise Lasser. Screenplay: Robert Martin, Frank Henenlotter. Cinematography: Robert M. Baldwin. Production design: Charles C. Bennett. Film editing: Kevin Tent. Music: Joe Renzetti.
Mary Shelley's monster -- by which I mean the novel, not the creature in it -- has undergone so many dismemberings and reassemblages over two centuries that I doubt she would recognize it today. I certainly don't want to speculate about what she would think of Frankenhooker, which carries the premise of reanimating the dead to its sleaziest extreme. When Jeffrey Franken's (James Lorinz) fiancée, Elizabeth Shelley (Patty Mullen), dies in an accident that leaves him only her head, he takes what he has learned in the med schools he flunked out of and the equipment he has "borrowed" from his job in an electrical power plant, and sets out to collect other body parts with a view to reconstructing and reviving her. He finds the parts he needs on the women walking the seedier streets of Manhattan. How he collects them and how the plan goes awry involves, among other things, some explosive crack cocaine and a vengeful pimp. Yes, the movie is in the worst possible taste, with something to offend almost anyone. The acting is atrocious and the special effects are, let's say, marginal. But it's also some kind of classic -- cult or camp or exploitation, you label it. I can only say that if you don't laugh out loud at least once, you may need to reanimate yourself.

RWM: The Wolf Den
I got up to chapter 23! This is what I think about the characters so far.
Amara's tenacity and her drive to improve her situation illustrate the human spirit's resilience. She's like a strategist, always seeking ways to change her fate, even when the others don’t have the same drive as her. Her past as a freedwoman adds depth to her motivation. Having tasted freedom, she knows what she's fighting for – a return to a life of her own choosing. This memory serves as a powerful catalyst for her actions.
Dido's repulsion of men after her traumatic experiences shows the deep impact that past events can have on our relationships and perceptions. Her repulsion is a deeply human response to the traumatic experiences she endured, the forced prostitution and exploitation. These experiences have left scars that extend beyond physical wounds, affecting her emotional and psychological well-being. Her instinctual avoidance of men highlights the profound loss of trust that can result from such trauma, as well as the emotional walls she's built to shield herself from further harm, especially with her relationship with Niccandrus.
Cresa, her story is the saddest to me. Forced prostitution and then losing child while still choosing to be kind. You can tell every scene that she’s in that the loss of her child is a wound that cuts deep into Cresa's core. The pain of separation and the absence of her maternal bond leave her in a state of profound grief and emptiness. She seems so detached from the world around. The profound grief she feels speaks to the complex emotional landscape that accompanies the loss of a loved one or an irreplaceable bond.
Victoria's situation is particularly heartrending because she appears to be isolated, lacking the kind of close relationships that others around her seem to possess. The presence of companionship and emotional connections that characters like Amara, Dido, and the others have further emphasizes Victoria's sense of isolation. Amara and Dido have their music and Menander and Niccandrus respectively, Beronice have Gallus foolishly, Fabia have her son, Paris, Cresa still have the memories of her lost son, while Victoria doesn’t seem to have anyone. This isolation is a poignant reminder of how our relationships and connections can shape our identity and well-being. I think Victoria thinks she has Felix, in which she don’t. Her interactions with Felix, while seemingly providing her with some form of companionship, underscore her sense of being trapped and devalued. In a way, she's caught in a cycle where her interactions with him perpetuate a perception of herself as having little value beyond her role as a sexual object.  Victoria's perspective on sex as a form of esteem highlights her search for validation. In her circumstances, where other forms of connection and recognition are lacking, she may perceive her interactions with Felix as a source of validation and affirmation, even though it's a distorted view.
Fabia's encapsulates the harsh realities of societal expectations, the transient nature of beauty, and the challenges that individuals face when their perceived value is tied to external factors. Her journey from a life of slavery to her losing her worth as she ages is an exploration of the vulnerability that comes with such circumstances. Fabia lost her value as she became older, which is the heartbreaking representation of the societal emphasis on appearance and youth, particularly for women. The notion that one's worth diminishes with age is a pervasive theme that resonates beyond the book's setting. It sheds light on the challenges individuals encounter when their identities are tied primarily to their physical attributes rather than their intrinsic qualities or accomplishments. Fabia's journey also invites us to consider the limited opportunities and options available to individuals trapped in low-ranked positions. More importantly, the empathy that the other women in the story feel for Fabia's plight makes sense, because they know this too is the future that is awaiting them.
Beronice, young and dumb. Her ability to maintain a sense of hope and romance despite her circumstances is a testament to the power of the human spirit. It's a reminder that even in difficult situations, the people still seek connection and the potential for happiness. More importantly, the abusive nature of this relationship also gets swiped under the rug.
All of these women are such good examples of how trauma plays on someone.

well you see, the composer of that piece, richard wagner, was EXTREMELY anti-semitic. like he literally wrote a whole ass essay titled "Das Judenthum in der Musik" ("Jewishness in Music") in which he shunned Jewish composers by saying that their careers were solely financially driven, and he even shunned some of the leading Jewish composers of the day, life Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (the composer of a midsummer night dream!) and Giacomo Meyerbeer.
his music was very liked by hitler, and there is even evidence to suggest that his music was played in the Dachau concentration camp.
plus he was a bitch. he cucked one of the greatest pianists of the era and was super-self obsessed. he exploited franz liszt, one of the greatest pianist and composers of all time, for money. and its worth noting that franz liszt was a major public figure who frequently put on charity concerts.
i could go on because it just kinda gets worse but i think you get the picture.
a side effect of learning about music history is that every time i hear ride of the valkyries i automatically feel disgusted
