Feldspar Ruby
If you visit The Cracked Cluster bar,
You should enjoy a drink with Feldspar,
He's an accomplished bartender,
So why not be a big spender,
And leave generous tips in the jar!
Some further poetical nonsense! This time to celebrate the birthday of the fantastic @loldragoon-ffxiv and their wonderful OC Feldspar Ruby.
One of the first blogs I ever followed on Tumblr, this one comes highly recommended, with beautiful gposes and terrific writing - and some of the shapeliest calves in all Eorzea.
Co-Writer, with @scholarlostintime, of one of the most moving romances I've ever had the pleasure of reading, this is a blog with some serious talent behind it. Please give it a follow if you're not following already.
Many happy returns @loldragoon-ffxiv!

I love avatar yuji! any random facts about him you can share?
:D :D :D Yes !! unfortunately my partner in plot is asleep atm so im hesitant to share too much but these yuujifacts(tm) should b spoiler-free so enjoy!!!
as opposed 2 getting them later like in jjk canon, yuuji starts off already having his shibuya incident scars - long gash from a fight, lip scar from falling down a mountainside
prefers to go barefoot bc he finds it helps with his earthbending
in a similar vein, unlike in canon, his fighting style tends to favour his legs as opposed to his fists :> hes generally not very coordinated with his hands or fingers
can't metalbend . skill issue. -nobara
aforementioned rock nerd!!! able 2 accurately guess the mohs scale number of a stone just by handling it. can and Will yap fr hours abt shit like the minerals found in granite (yuuji voice quartz feldspar and mica) or how the second hardest mineral after diamond is corundum (yuuji voice whose primary gem varieties are rubies and sapphires; classified as one or the other depending on their colour)
(obligatory karucchi mention!!) yuuji is on good terms with the local butcher because karucchi is at the end of the day . a Big Kitty. and as he grew and got more proficient at hunting, like a big kitty he would just .,,bring home his kills . and yuuji, having no real use for whole carcasses, started bringing them to the butchers where he would trade them in either for payment or for his pick of the cut

Please tell us more about characters assigned rocks 👀
Oh no my trap card! long post time!
Okay, the rocks that I assign to characters depend on a lot of different factors (mostly vibes), am I planning aesthetic matches? eg. rubies and garnets for technoblade? Narrative matches? eg. gypsum for dream? Character matches? vibe or function? eg. feldspar for techno, muscovite for phil? The result is a pile of different rocks assigned to each of my special little guys, some with more uhh tenuous connections than others.
Let's go over the rocks I assigned to the syndicate (+dream) and why:
First up, Technoblade and K-Feldspar:
This is one based mostly off of vibes. It's one of my favorite feldspars and Technoblade is my favorite guy. And orthoclase feldspar, or K-feldspar, is PINK.
But I am nothing if not able to make explanations for things that were initially just based on vibes. Let's look a little beyond, shall we? Feldspars are known for being very structured in the sense that they have two defined cleavage planes at 90 degrees to each other, making rectangular blocks with irregular ends. Techno, to me, is the pillar of support and structure to his friends, so a cleavage pattern that reflects that is fitting. (in contrast, I think Ranboo's character could be represented by obsidian, which is glass-like). Beyond that, feldspar is the most common mineral in the earth's crust, making up about 60% of the crust. In terms of Technoblade, this could represent his impact on the mcyt community, his character's role in driving many major plotlines, or if you like the old immortals hc, a lasting impact on the world throughout history. (If you like the old immortals theory, please consider pairing feldspar techno with olivine philza! Olivine is a green mineral, the most abundant in the upper mantle!)
A couple other notes: K-feldspar is pink because it has iron mixed into it, but it's named for the high concentration of potassium. Potassium is also known for: exploding! Also. It's PINK. But, generally I do tend to associate feldspars with Philza instead of Technoblade, because feldspars are what makes moonstone and labradorite, and I tend to associate moon and star mythos and symbolism with Phil.
Philza and muscovite:
I know I just wrote muscovite, but I was thinking of fuchsite, which is a chromium-rich muscovite!
I can't really put a finger on why I feel that muscovite fits Phil so well, but I think the micas suit him. Maybe it's something about how they used to use Mica to make windows (Muscovy glass, from Moscow, gives muscovite it's name!), and I feel that Philza's builds and character act as windows into rich worldbuilding. Maybe it's something about the fact that micas are made of many many layers and Philza adds a depth to each of his characters (and even literal layers with the colorzas). Muscovite is generally clear and reflective, while biotite micas can be dark enough to be black even in thin sheets. both suit Phil in my opinion, but the inclusion of alluminum in muscovite sometimes gives it a metallic sheen. It can be thin and transparent sheets, but it's still durable and versatile as a material. Maybe that reminded me of how people always see Technoblade as the warrior, but Philza has been known as a survivor for just as long if not longer.
Connor and Ocean Jasper:
I'm going to be honest. I know nothing about this guy.
Ocean jasper is blue. He's blue. What more is there to say?
Ocean jasper, or orbicular jasper, is a pretty rare stone! The main reason I assigned this to C!connor, other than the color, is that from the little I knew of his character, he was still somehow everywhere. That sums up my understanding of jasper pretty well too! It's a silicate mineral, defined more by its crystal structure than its composition, but some people still just call it chalcedony or quartz, and jasper is everywhere with lots of varieties! It reminded me of seeing all of C!connor's appearances with his normal skin and all the time traveler theories. The same Connor under different names, the same quartz under different names.
Niki Nihachu and Rhodochrosite:
This is the one I feel fits the best, actually! Yes I did initially think of it because it's pink, but Rhodochrosite is an extremely cool mineral and I think the fact that people think of it as "just pink" reflects perception of Niki's character compared to her true depth.
Just look at the versatility of it! From crystals to roses to speleothems. Rhodochrosite has been used for manganese, which is used in steel and aluminum alloy production, or to concentrate silver. In both cases the process is destructive and creates a lot of byproducts, which reminded me of the hurt caused to C!Niki through the revolution, and the way she was spoken over and ignored after. Another aspect of rhodochrosite is that it generally forms in hydrothermal veins. High pressure formation conditions to create this beautiful mineral reflect, to me, Niki's arc of finding herself again.
Ranboo and Snowflake Obsidian:
I think any obsidian fit's C!Ranboo well, but you know I had to choose snowflake obsidian because it's black and white.
Ranboo's fragmented memory made me think that a fracturing material would be a good fit, and obsidian has the properties of glass. It is also not lost on me that obsidian forms when magma or lava hit water. However, snowflake obsidian forms through the process of devitrification (vitri-, like vitreous, meaning glass-like), where glasslike substances become crystalline. The white material is cristobalite, a silicate material that forms at high temperatures. What this means is that snowflake obsidian is not as glass-like as other types of obsidian, just as Ranboo's memory loss is not exactly what it first appears to be either.
Dream and Gypsum:
Gypsum, in some forms called selenite, is a pretty well-known mineral. However, many of the forms are known under different names so people do not realize that they are all the same mineral.
Gypsum can form roses, clear selenite, reflective satin spar, the sands of white dunes, rock, crystals, and more. It's used in construction, to make chalk, to make buildings, to analyze mineral thin sections, to measure hardness on the Mohs scale, and to charge crystals by those that believe in spiritual properties of minerals. I see these many different forms as parallels to Dream's many faces on the server, real and perceived. Many different names given to different forms of the same person. I think the many used of gypsum also reflect the perception of Dream by the rest of the server. Gypsum is attributed power by some (is Dream the most powerful villian on the server?) and use by geologists and builders (Is Dream a way to get the revival book? Is he an ally?), but one of the main qualities is that it has a very low hardness, and is very easily broken. Is the role and name assigned to Dream, by others and by himself, more than he can fulfill without breaking?
#vpoc yells#vpoc writes#now i need a new tag that's 'vpoc talks about rocks for way too long'#dsmp#rockposting#the syndicate#uhhh I don't know what tags to use for this tbh#long post#If someone wants I can list some vibe-based rocks for my guys too

Change of Pace Ch.7
Summary: When a scandal breaks out after her father is arrested for Electoral fraud and Tax evasion she takes this opportunity to disappear leaving Atlas for a small town in the south where her Grandfather had a small farm that had fallen into disrepair. She arrives hoping to find a better life for herself and her daughter.
Words: 36,659
Main Relationship: Weiss Schnee/Ruby Rose
Rating: M
Notes: I'm currently working on posting links to fics I forgot about to tumblr. I'm also trying a new format for posting said links. If you want to set the mood for the fic please check out the playlist for it and you can check out my ko-fi if you want.
FIC:
‘Your destination is ahead on the right.’ Weiss glanced out of the right window, noticing the narrow gravel road.
“That must be it.” Turning onto the road her car jerked slightly as she drove up toward a rustic two-story house with a familiar beat-up red pickup truck parked in the driveway. Pulling up next to it, she put her car in park unbuckling her seatbelt, looking over the seat at Ivory where she sat, playing with a stuffed rabbit, kicking her legs back and forth. “You ready?”
“Yuh-uh!” Ivory chirped as she began to unbuckle herself. Turning off the engine, it made a clunking sound that didn’t fill Weiss with much confidence.
“Oh, that didn’t sound good...” Gently she stroked the steering wheel before she grabbed her purse and stepped out into spring evening air. Slamming the door closed she moved around the front just as Ivory skipped into view. The blue sundress had definitely been the right choice. That and the white buckle sandals made her look like an entirely different child. If not for the frog purse she had insisted on bringing everywhere. Shaking her head Weiss blew some air out her nose. ‘If she’s happy that’s all that matters.’
Approaching the front porch, she watched Ivory jump up the stairs stumbling slightly. She waved her arms attempting to catch her balance. Weiss placed a hand on her back helping her keep herself upright. “You good?”
“Yup!” Ivory nodded, jumping onto the final step. “Can I ring the doorbell?”
“Sure,” Weiss said with a short laugh as she watched as Ivory reached up on her tiptoes just as barely managing to press the button. It rang out in the standard ‘Ding. Dong. Ding.’
Ivory beamed up at Weiss obviously very proud of her accomplishment. “I reached it.”
“Yeah,” Weiss said, placing a hand on Ivory’s back. “You’ve gotten so big,” Weiss said, causing Ivory to throw her shoulders back, puffing her chest out. The doorknob rattle and turned, the door swinging open inwards revealing the one and only Ruby Rose. She wore a faded grey shirt that seemed to say Feldspar Track and Field around the same mid-howl wolf from the water tower. The sleeves had been cut off revealing toned along with a farmer’s tan. She leaned against the door, reaching down to adjust her pants, a pair of black gym shorts. Weiss looked down at her own outfit. A sheer white blouse with a faux ribbon attached to the collar was tucked into a blue A-line shirt. Weiss suddenly felt incredibly overdressed.
Ivory was practically bouncing in place and eventually, the excitement bubbled over as she jumped over to Ruby. “Ruby! Ruby! Ruby!”
“Ivory! Ivory! Ivory!” Ruby said easily matching Ivory’s energy as she placed her hands on her knees leaning down so she was level with Ivory who placed her hands behind her back, rocking back on her heels.
“Did you know that we’re here for dinner?”
“What!?” Ruby exclaimed, glancing up at Weiss. “Really!?”
“Yup! Really really!”

me, horribly gacha brained learning about gems: so quartz and feldspar are like maybe your junk wishes or like common or rare drops, and things like emerald and ruby are like SR level, and then diamonds are like SSR but then there’s URs which are like tanzanite and stuff

Em. My dear. My love. I may be acquiring a new cat soon and I need help. Because my cat naming theme is geological (Ruby, Onyx) and I would very much like to continue it, but I don't know what to name this cat after.
Something grey with striations of some kind?
You're the Rock Lesbian please help.
okay but jokes aside assuming you don't want to name your cat Feldspar, Moonstone is a type of feldspar. that shit can come in a whole range of colors
there's also good ol Dolomite, which is what i affectionately refer to as Limestone 2 (it's basically the same but formed under different conditions and it is sturdier than limestone. it'd be a funny name but Dolly exists as a potential nickname so
Smoky Quartz obviously fits in with the gem theme going on with the other two, & quartz often does have a striation-esque lined appearance. you can also look into fibrous minerals like Selenite - related to gypsum, but again a little sturdier & would make a better name
also give the baby kissies for me when you have them

12. The Lancer.
The Lancer’s spending several moons,
Residing at Camp Dragonhead,
She’ll go on to train with the Dragoons,
And take a certain Knight to bed...
The twelfth character in my silly poem series is Zoisite Ruby of @loldragoon-ffxiv - an OC with a far more complex and poignant backstory than my poetical silliness would suggest.
As well as Zoisite, you will find a profusion of fantastic characters on this blog - including Feldspar (the handsome husband of Fennie of @scholarlostintime, famous for his shorts and wine-making), his little sister, the very forbearing Rose Quartz, and Ichelle, diplomat, handsome noblewoman and Azure Dragoon.
A skillful writer, gposer and all round good sort, I heartily recommend @loldragoon-ffxiv. Along with @scholarlostintime they also run some fantastic RP events at Feldspar's Inn, The Cracked Cluster - keep an eye out for some more of these in the future.

feldspars are the most common minerals on earth (quartzes take second place) so they take a low seat on the caste, just above rubies but below quartzes - they're specialised armed guards, like rubies and topazes, but skilled enough so that you only need one iykwim? ogrim gets assigned to guard isma on a survey of some other planet and the rest is history - 👹
Ahhh so like instead of sending out a ruby squad u send out a single feldspar?? And ooooooh that sounds so cute oml
Just imagining them on their own, the entire planet to themselves, getting to know each other, slowly dropping the formalities iswkjdknxkxkd

Sooo, since I can't do much rockhounding or tumbling during the winter, I'm back to acquiring shiny rocks elsewhere. Here are my most recent additions, from various places:
1-5 (white & green + green & orange): Gifts from my sister from her trip out of state. She says they were unlabeled, but I think they are all or mostly varieties of tree agate.
6 (white, black, and teal): K2 jasper (azurite in granite)
7 (brown with orbicular pattern): turritella agate
8 (gray, white, and purple-red): ruby in feldspar
9 (iridescent orange-ish): peach moonstone
10-11 (light green-blue): amazonite
12 (light green and white): green larimar (almost certainly synthetic, but still pretty)
13 (white, black, and teal): K2 jasper again
14-15 (brown swirly): chocolate calcite
16 (brown bandy): aragonite
17 (green and purple): fluorite
18-19 (clear yellow-orange): honey calcite
20 (purple and white): lepidolite
21 (red-orange glittery): red goldstone
22 (gray with red orbicular pattern): ocean jasper
23 (grayish, clear with inclusions): a large piece of smoky rutile quartz
