   sketching had been a forgotten hobby of ben’s. kingly duties left him with little to no free time and that was taken up by friends and family when he got the rare time off. now he had too much personal time to fill, being trapped in his own home which felt like anything but since uma’s takeover. still, the strokes of his pencil were beginning to resemble the very girl he should hate but despite all her anger and need for revenge, ben felt no desire to hate her. he understood too well why she had done what she did and it would be hypocritical of him, one ruler to another, to say she was doing anything but what was best for her people. unfortunately, she had no regards for his people and sadness entered his eyes as he stared at the unfinished sketch but his trance was broken when his door opened and he shut the sketch book.

    boarding the familiar ship had become a quick habit. no longer did the crew give him a second look, whether it be of fear or even curiosity. he wasn’t their enemy. not like auradon was. besides, he had far more important matters than concerning himself over little thoughts. directed towards where the captain’s quarters were, it was only a few moments before he was letting him inside without a knock. “uma, we need to discuss some matters.” / @feelthepxwer

      head comfortably seated in her lap, harry peered up at the night sky, feeling more at peace than he had in a very long time. this place was turning out to be better for him than the first mate had thought possible. it was almost as though he could become more like the person he’d been before. “always get tae thinking ‘bout how different our lives could ‘ave been off the isle. could ‘ave been ‘ere. a lost boy.”

None of this was okay. Taking Ben hostage and forcing him to hand over the crown, Carlos  had no idea what he expected but he was pissed. The knights let him into the castle without question which made the knots in his stomach twist tighter but he kept moving forward with determination. If he stopped or even hesitated, he would lose all his nerve.

Of course, it was the throne room that he found Uma in. “How could you do this?” He asked as soon as he entered. There was more hurt than anger in his voice, but he had to get it out before he stared into Uma’s eyes and remembered all the reasons he loved her. All the reasons he wished he could abandon his morals and make this easier on all of them, but it would never be that easy.

     he’d already been debating whether or not he should bring the subject up long before he had ended up in their uma’s cabin. lounging on the bed, it was clear that the first mate was a bit more on edge, uncertain about himself. he was still taking it all in himself, the conversation replaying in his mind over and over again. this was his last resort, hardly something that he would be asking if it wasn’t for good reason. but he had to know the truth. “i wanted tae ask ye a sorta...favor,” he finally spoke. “magic is involved.”

    a pirate ship certainly wouldn’t be the first place the god would have chosen to be. the waters belonged to one of his brothers, after all -- a brother that wasn’t his biggest fan. though none of his siblings really seemed to be after his little failure. night had fallen, residents going off to sleep or whatever else they so desired within the comfort of their own homes. no one was around to witness a thing. just as he preferred. “we need to ensure our next moves are planned out accordingly. no mistakes can be made, as i’m sure you understand fully well. auradon has its guard down for the moment after their little holiday. it’s time to strike again.”

    anger couldn’t even begin to describe how the first mate was feeling. all of this was beginning to pile up now, higher and higher until he felt ready to explode. so much about auradon already set him off, was it really much of a surprise that he was so close to tipping over?? the fact that ben had deemed it okay to do what he had done to uma had already set off that blinding rage inside of the first. everything else had just... tipped him further into it. clearly he was in of his rages, given how quickly the other crew members had gotten out of his way as harry stormed up onto the ship. 

    “i’m sick o’ it !! no one ‘ere deserves any mercy, let alone its ruler. i want ‘em tae pay. i want ben tae bleed.”

    “c’mon.” he pressed the warm mug into her hands. “try it, you know it’s not poisoned.” a peppermint hot chocolate with a tiny candy cane sticking out of the cup. it might be a little too cheerful for someone from the isle but carlos loved the sugary taste and that was all that mattered to him. he wanted to share something he enjoyed with uma, subtly try to show her the good auradon had to offer too if she would let it.

The younger froze, heart sinking in his chest like an anchor in the sea. He knew he should have just kept his mouth shut and now he may have ruined things all over again. “R-Right, I was just um, you know.” He shrugged, brushing his fingers awkwardly through his hair. There was no use lying, especially to Uma, she knew he didn’t say or do things like this if he wasn’t being genuine.
