We got a Smeargle to take a little sketch of us to send to you instead, hope this makes you feel better.

He said that it'd be better if we were all fully in frame next time, but I don't know what he meant by that... We're all there, aren't we? Regardless, though.

I do hope Aigiel's getting better... I know you haven't gotten an update in a while, but I'm sure she's fine- the girl's taken a fair few falls, and gotten up anyways.

For new additions to the group this year, though...

Ephim finally convinced Minato to tag along. (I don't know what they're doing in the photo either, but I think some part of him was enjoying it too.)

A new pair- Safira and Higashi, bottom left of it. I gave talking to them a try, and they seemed familiar somehow nice. Apparently they helped stop the natural disasters of the air continent.

There's also Feysara, the Eevee girl- that's her talking to Auren on the right. She's polite, if a bit quiet at times. I have a feeling you'll like her.

Well. Happy New Year!

This post has been set to go up at sometime in the afternoon/evening of the 31st, meaning this is some of this year's last hours.

So, I'd like to thank you while I still have time.

Thank you all for everything you've done for me, for being so friendly, for caring as much as you have- I don't think I'd be here without all of you.

Now, for some more fun stuff- I don't have refs or anything but I can at least give a lowdown on the picture.

Chronoconvergence is my current idea for a collective name for my PMD stuff, likely to be replaced once I think of something better, but it stands for now. ...I am still too lazy to update tags though.

As said in the letter, Ephim the Lucario is doing ...whatever that is with Minato (Bulbasaur) on the left, with Safira (Skitty) and Higashi (Wooper) talking with Minami (Grovyle, yes, The Grovyle PMD2) right below.

Taking center stage are Everus (Fraxure) and Spark (Ninetales), my Gates team, with Ephris (Mew) hovering close by alongside Serri (Celebi, again, yes, The Celebi PMD2). also nearby is Feysara standing far off to the right

Lastly, is one that might require a bit of explanation- Auren (Dusknoir, you know the drill) talking with... Feysara, the Eevee mentioned in the letter. Just one small problem. Feysara is someone else's name.

Well, Feys (as I've effectively renamed her) is the protagonist of the fic I've been trying to write for a while now called An Empty Reflection which is also meant to serve as the opening act to a grander story called New Future's Dawn. Her story is yet to be told, but I hope to do so soon!

I want to promise when my next big thing or whatever will be but really, I'm probably gonna end up liveblogging Vivid/Stasis Chapter 5 for a bit so I might be occupied with that. As this goes up, I'm probably just finishing up what is effectively meant to be me re-familiarizing myself with the game as a whole.

But just know that writing is not abandoned, and art is not abandoned, both just planned to be pushed to the side as I write this. I'm probably at least thinking of writing by the time you're reading this, so not all hope is lost.

And as a last note... This combination of characters being alive and such is not canon, even if we all (or at least I) wished otherwise. Well, Happy New Year. It's been a hell of a ride so far and I can only hope it gets better from here.

It’s thinking about dusknoir hours boys

I’m thinking about the dialogue he has if you talk to him before entering Vast Ice Mountain bc he’s the only one who saw Grovyle starting to disappear

He was the only one keeping an eye on him, the only one watching him and I just

This ghost—who has spent his whole life fighting to survive no matter the cost, hunted down the hero and Grovyle (and Celebi, and we don’t even know much about the rest of the planetary investigation team) with the intent to kill them to prevent the timeline from being fixed…who tracked them down in the past (not even delving into his friendship with hero/partner rn bc this will get ten times as long @jsab-fujii you understand my brainworms and feed them every time you post), who had full intentions of murdering grovyle to use his body to trick hero/partner until he realized that grovyle’s actually a really good stable person and actually not insane for having a death wish like he had thought all this time and started to second guess himself and saved him because of it—spins a one-eighty to fast it boggles me

Dialga almost killed him in his rampage. He was already severely wounded. He’s just made the unalterable decision to go against everything he’s ever believed. He is now actively cooperating with these rebels whom he has despised for so long to inexorably fix the future. He is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of providing life to others. The weight of that choice is hitting him like a freight train, laying on that icy ground, something he truly cannot take back. And what is the first thing that he does?

He sends the Sableye to make sure Celebi and Grovyle are all right.

I cannot…I can’t. Fathom what’s going through his head. This friend whom he has unwittingly unwillingly found in grovyle, whom he almost just succeeded in finally killing but still had the audacity, the gall, the nerve to proclaim his full trust in dusknoir, to remind him of the goodness, the kindness, the compassion, the care he has buried so deep inside he doesn’t dare let see the light of day, is still on the brink of death. Celebi was obviously better off but still stunned by Spiritomb’s hold.

So I imagine he’s a little frantic. His whole world has just been flipped upside down, his viewpoints inexorably altered. He’s terrified. He’s hopeful. He’s a tempest of emotions bc what is he doing has he gone crazy why is he doing this????

They limp up that mountain in a desperate final attempt to stop Dialga while discussing their final plan for their last moments and Dusknoir is watching Grovyle—this natural leader he has realized possesses so much strength and willpower in spite of any uncertainty and fear he may feel.

Dusknoir’s concerned. He hates it and he doesn’t understand it but he wants to make sure grovyle’s okay with whatever little time they have left. And he sees that one fractal of light emanating off of him and he just…knows.

Do you think he wonders why grovyle would start to disappear first? Do you wonder that maybe he thinks he ought to go first, after everything that he’s done? Do you think that he wishes that—if anyone—grovyle and the hero and Celebi deserve to remain for their sacrifice? He does, in the end, fade out before Grovyle and celebi, but…

I don’t know man I just can’t stop thinking about this guy😭

Title: Saying Goodbye 2: Electric Boogaloo

As the Riolu heads down the path with the Chimchar to reach the Rainbow Stoneship, the Riolu knew something that Storm didn’t. The whole time, Cloud had wanted to tell xem—but didn’t exactly know how to drop that onto the Chimchar.

Xe would get on—Storm would manage to get back to Treasure Town and then the Guild. But, xe would have to do all of this alone. Cloud wouldn’t be there. Cloud wouldn’t be returning this time.

Thought’s were rushing through Cloud’s mind, although the Riolu was only focusing on a couple. How would Storm deal with this? Would xe be okay?

Grovyle was likely to disappear, too—maybe he already had... Cloud didn’t know. After the Riolu were to disappear, would Cloud get to see him again? If so, maybe the two wouldn’t be separated again. It had happened twice—and that was enough.

But... Cloud did wish that none of this had to happen. None of this disappearing stuff—no betrayal from Dusknoir or anything. While it would be nice—and preferred, from the both of them—for all of them to be together with no issues—sadly, that wasn’t ever going to be the case.

While Cloud had only just started to notice the bits of golden light appearing—there was one thing that the Riolu had failed to notice: Cloud had stopped walking. The Riolu did have to admit, though, that for a while, everything had been feeling heavy.

Storm had noticed, though.

“Cloud?” The Chimchar hesitantly spoke up, approaching the Riolu. “Is something the matter? Are you okay? We’re... we’re almost to the Rainbow Stoneship.”

While a part of Storm wanted to think that everything was fine—the other parts didn’t believe that. Cloud was practically surrounded in a golden light... that didn’t seem like a good or normal thing.

If it actually was a normal thing—at least for Cloud—then xe figured that xe would’ve seen that happen at some point—or, that Cloud would’ve at least mentioned it at some point.

‘I should’ve told you earlier, Stormy.’ The Riolu started to sign, ‘I’m sorry about this, but I won’t be able to be with you any longer. I’ll be disappearing soon enough.’

The Chimchar‘s tail dropped, and xe frowned, moving closer to the Riolu’s side. “What...?” Storm whispered, “What... do you mean...? Is-... Is this some sort of joke?”

‘I wouldn’t joke about something like this.’ Cloud’s head shook. ‘The future has been changed, Storm. And, unfortunately, that means all future Pokémon will have to disappear. I’m among that group.’

“Y-Y... You CAN’T-“ The Chimchar’s flame began to grow—and—at the same time, Storm was suddenly pulled into a hug from the Riolu.

Storm fell silent. While the hug was certainly nice—especially after learning something horrible like that—it still surprised xem.

Cloud had never been one for hugs—or much of any physical contact at all—when xe had decided to ask once, Cloud had simply told the Chimchar that it just wasn’t something that was liked.

‘I don’t want to go, Storm. I know you don’t want me to go, either. I’m sorry about this. But it’s what has to happen.’ Storm finally returned the hug.

The hug lasted for a few more seconds, before Cloud was the first to pull away. ‘You’ll be okay without me. After this, it’s going to be okay, even if it’s... just a little different without me.’

The light around the Riolu was growing stronger. The next thing that happened shocked the Chimchar—it was something that xe had never really expected.

As Cloud smiled at Storm, reaching over to hold the Chimchar’s hand, a simple phrase escaped from the Riolu’s lips. “I love you, Storm.”

Storm stared... but with what little time was left, the Chimchar pushed all of the thoughts away, and focused on Cloud and the words themselves—and not the fact that Cloud had just spoken for the first—and last time, ever.

Just as Cloud was finally disappearing, Storm hurried to say something xemself—Cloud needed to know this, just like how Storm needed to—it was the final chance and moment this could ever be said.

“I-... I love you too, Cloud.”

As the Riolu’s smile grew at those words, Cloud finally disappeared with the light—leaving the Chimchar all alone, xe beginning to wipe at xer eyes as tears started to fall.

Ooo, hard. Always a fan of Eevee and Shinx and really any non-mainline starters. Riolu is a classic, but not really my style. Phanpy makes me sad with how bad it is, because I really just want a ground type.

I think I kinda have to go with Explorers here. I honestly think Nuzleaf is a more emotional villain than Dusknoir, but Dusknoir is better written.

I don’t even recruit Pokémon lol. If I do, I’ll add, like, Cubone or Sandshrew. Those are always useful. But they always fall behind during the required exile section of the game

Yes. If you don’t, fix yourself. Gummi drinks are objectively better than gummis. Not that you need it, but you get so buff it’s not even funny. Life Seeds and such too. Save states are broken here.

If you haven’t, go look up the Adventures to the Ultra Space wiki. 84 starters, including all returning ones and up through Gen 7 and even some Gen 8. I wish this game was real and I’m so sad the starters here aren’t available. Ones I would add besides those are Zubat, because it’s funny, and Spritzee, Gastly, and Skrelp. Those ones are such funky little dudes. Also, that Kirlia should be a Ralts, but oh well. Ralts is weak anyway

This feels like tearing out a part of my soul. I do hate Chimchar, but I can’t exactly take out a proper starter. If I had to choose, probably Psyduck, but I still like that dude, so I’m not happy.

I like Sky the best, but Super is kind of objective for quality. Sky is more artistic, tho.

4. what did you name your hero and partner characters? and why?

My main team is my Treecko hero named Briar and my Totodile partner named Fangz in PMD2

I'm going to be so real with you, I'm very bad at coming up with names for my Pokemon on the spot that aren't something silly, and I knew that I'd just be stuck on the personality quiz for a long time trying to craft a perfect thematic name for my hero and partner (esp since being able to change your duo's name isn't a thing until PMD3)

So, I just decided to name them whatever my first thought was and come up with a lore reason later as to why they were like that while I progressed through the game. Briar is a pretty fitting name for a Treecko, and it also happens to be a human name. Fangz was Briar's pitch for their trans partner's new name, who admired Briar so much right from the start that she practically accepted it as a badge of honor.

7. How do you interpret the future trio's relationship to eachother?

Dusknoir and Grovyle: Extremely awkward but very devoted pair, especially on Dusknoir's end. Regardless of whether their relationship is platonic or romantic, I imagine it's hard to not be deeply attached after changing Dusknoir's worldview in such a radical way, perhaps resulting in Dusknoir idolizing Grovyle in a way that borders on somewhat unhealthy at times. The two have a lot to work through, but for now, being held while gently bickering instead of having to be at one another's throats is a nice change of pace.

Grovyle and Celebi: Heads up, this is my biggest NOTP. That being said, I HC that Grovyle admires Celebi just as much as she admires him (platonically). Where Celebi is very passionate, wishing she could grab what little flickers of joy she can find in the paralyzed future and share them with Grovyle as much as she can, Grovyle feels that the best act of love he can do for those around him is to just bring this mission to an end as soon as possible, not let them suffer more than they have to. Perhaps this prevents them from being as close as they could be, and why Celebi ultimately chooses not to directly speak to him about how much she cares and wants to spend more time with him despite her admiration being very obvious to hero and partner.

Dusknoir and Celebi: Alright, this one is a lot more personalized, so just hear me out. These two practically grew up together in the ruined hidden land under Dialga's rule, but drifted apart as they grew older and Dusknoir took on more and more responsibilities as Dialga's second in command. For a long time, if felt as if they were allowed to experience some semblance of childhood as long as they remained by one another's side. Their renewed post-game friendship is tense... but they're glad to have one another once again. I like to think that Celebi was Dusknoir's childhood crush, and feels genuine joy at the idea of getting to meet her all over again as allies. It's tense the first few times they speak, but I think they're able to understand and open up to one another a bit more quickly than the previous two relationships.

As a whole: They've got history and all sorts of things to discuss now that their mission is complete. I strongly advise against separating them, they're like cats that need to be adopted as a group because they can't stand being apart after what they went through. Just let them have one good thing, and let that one good thing be one another's company.

7. how do you interpret the future trios relationships to each other?

oooo okay this is an interesting one. my own personal hc is that they (along w/ hero) used to work together/travel together as a little ragtag group, very found family like. dusknoir was with them up until they started really investigating the planet’s paralysis and they found that in order to change the future, they’d all have to disappear in the process — and that scared him! so that’s when the group split, and dusknoir ended up working with primal dialga to keep the world the way it was. 

so in that regard, i feel like there’s still some resentment between grovyle/celebi and dusknoir. yeah, the world’s fine and they’re all together again like they used to be, but...it’s just not the same. and even if they try to move past everything that happened, that won’t fix the hurt that dusknoir inflicted on them. i think grovyle and celebi would understand being afraid, but they would have a little bit of a harder time with why dusknoir went to the lengths that he did. like he could’ve just left the group and not worked with primal dialga. but no he did. a lot. so yeah there’s some stuff bubbling under the surface for sure. 

on the topic of grovyle and celebi specifically, i think they’re friends who get along just fine. i don’t ship them (i don’t necessarily ship grovyle and dusknoir either), but i do think it’s cute that celebi calls him “my dear.” i wish their relationship had been expanded on more instead of just “oh she’s got a crush on him.” like come on you gotta give me more substance!! you gotta give me more to work with!!

8. if you’re an artist, how do you draw grovyle + dusknoir, and why? 

would you believe me if i told you i have zero (0) drawings of either of them?i spend most of my time making gates gijinkas...perhaps i should do something about that

anyway here’s a little doodle of grovyle i did in like. 10 minutes. this obviously isn’t his actual design, but it’s kinda how i want it to be. i think his hair is pretty similar to a lot of other designs that people have — everyone seems to go with the high ponytail, which fits him well imo. my grovyle specifically is going to have a longer jacket bc im a sucker for a good capey coat, and im not sure about the rest of his outfit, but it’ll probably involve shorts and leggings. u know. the good stuff. 

“why so desaturated” he’s a future kiddo!! there’s obviously no sun in the future, so i want their designs to reflect that, so the future trio (and perhaps my hero) will be a little less saturated in terms of color. their clothes are going to be a little brighter, but things like hair and skin will definitely be noticably greyish. 

as for dusknoir, i really just. i don’t know. i do want him to have an eyepatch hiding like a spooky eye or something bc that would be neat but other than that, i’m not sure. i think he’ll have a different design based on if he’s in the past or future. as for those designs?? no clue. like i said, i spend a lot of my time on gates characters ^^;;

10. opinions on nuzleaf’s character? and were you surprised by the twist? 

he’s a very charming character, and i love how he was just like “oh okay i’ll take this kid home with me,” and of course that makes sense considering what he’s up to but i just. i love him. he’s so stupid (i say that affectionately). yee yee. country man i love you. 

the betrayal didn’t surprise me a ton, bc it’s pmd, but at the same time, i think they did a good job making it seem like it could be anyone. while i’d like to say i suspected nuzleaf from the start, i really didn’t. and yeah looking back on it it’s pretty obvious. the krookodile red herring was pretty good too, and the dramatic reveal on the mountain?? excellent. i live for the drama. 

that being said, i wish they hadn’t chickened out with him!! possession excuses are weak. let him own it nintendo. let this man be an irredeemable manipulator. granted it’s a kid’s game but like come on...can he at least face the consequences of his actions a little bit??

@takarasuzume Since Tyki got two requests, Tyki then it is! Which is a relief, because Cross and Road are both so shrouded in mystery that I feel it would be ultimately hard to answer most questions. Thanks to both of you for dropping an ask, btw! This is late, but wishing you a nice day as well~ 💖

My otp for them: I don’t really have one, but if I had to choose a pairing for Tyki, I’d go with some good ol’ Poker Pair (Tyki x Allen). I think their dynamics are just right - frenemies, but not obnoxious.  My brotp for them: For the same reason stated above, I’m picking Allen for this spot! I really like how casual they are with each other, despite being enemies. And let’s not forget it was Tyki who gave Allen a reality check and told him the obvious when he most needed a direction to lead his life on (Chapter 205). He totally didn’t have to do that; yet he did, letting Allen have the choice. Tyki at least cares for Allen, even if just a little, and there’s no doubt of that. Any other ships: Have you guys considered him and Lulu Bell? Again, I’m weak for power couples... 👀💦 They’re both badass and extremely hot. It’s like a dom x dom dynamic, and I’m oh so weak for straight couples following this specific trope... 💦💦💦 Their best friend: His miner buddies! There was a Discussion Room on which Tyki mentioned missing seeing them, and I get all “awww” at for how long the poor dude hasn’t seen his homies. If I were to pick someone from the Noah family itself, I’d say it’s Road; I think they vibe together pretty well. Even if Road treats him as her pet, do you remember how insanely mad she got when Tyki was exorcised by Allen? Yep. My favorite nickname for them: Tyki-pon, by the Earl! It just sounds so silly it’s cute. We also have lots of inside jokes about misspelled versions of his name, like “Tykky Mikky” and things of the sort - but let’s give this poor guy a break. My favorite AU headcanon of them: I can see Tyki joining Team Allen in the future, be it because he favors Allen, because he wants to know the truth behind things, or because of his past connection with Nea. I’m not an entertainer of the theories floating around regarding Tyki’s body being Nea’s (it just doesn’t make sense to me as it is right now, sorry 😅), but I do think his past reincarnation might have been close to Nea and, if he finds this out (or remembers), he might tag along. I’d really like that.  My favorite outfit they wear: Tyki is really handsome - and I know I’ve said this for like, all the past asks but -, in my opinion he rocks everything he wears. Since I’m a simple guy, my favorite look of him is the one we see in the Edo arc + start of Ark arc; hair down, no blazer on. I particularly like his belt accessories. Defining color: When I think of Tyki, I think of the color purple, deep purple like Wine (#2C041C). Monochrome tones like black and white as well. Kinda suits him, eh? ✨ Would I date them: I don’t think I would. I’m a person who needs structure and permanence, and that would be no fun at all for Tyki. As the Noah of pleasure, he takes the title to heart and wants to live the best of his life, and that requires a lot of adventuring and risking. It would be a pretty limiting relationship for both sides, and that would be terrible! But I’d love to be his friend, he simply seems to be the go-to-person when you want to unwind from problems and have a chill, fun time. First impression: I thought there was something up with that one guy at the train at the moment I saw him. He stood out too much to be just a background character. His introduction as an actual Noah right afterwards had me going “hmmm”. Let’s see what this guy’s about, he might be interesting. Current impression: What a great personality! Tyki is easily the most charismatic and likeable Noah, hands down. For someone meant to be a villain, he’s definitely the opposite of detestable. More often than not we get to feel his humanity, as someone who’s stuck in the middle of living his own life and doing the bidding as the host of Joyd’s Noah Memory - and I really like that about him. Makes him feel a lot more palpable than most Noah; we are able of sympathizing with him. Hogwarts House: I want to say either Gryffindor or Slytherin, this is a hard pick. I lean more towards Gryffindor because of his insurgent nature, “rebelling” against his mission as the Third Apostle of Noah; this is a key feature of Tyki’s personality and character construction. As for Slytherin, it would be for the same reason, just taking another interpretation to his wants and desires of staying as “himself”. Which Pokemon starter they’d be: Would it be too funny if I said Treecko? The twig Treecko has in its mouth on some artworks kinda reminds me of Tyki’s cigarette, but I also think some of his Noah abilities somewhat resemble vine sprigs. Grovyle and Sceptile are also pretty cool looking, just like Tyki. 👌

Y'know... How about some Grovyle x Hero Headcanons? (feel free to choose the hero's gender and species, if you wish!)

…*squints* technically my headcanon asks are closed, but also technically this doesn’t count! sure why not lol

i used to ship hero and grovyle ages ago, it was basically i shipped past/future/human!hero with grovyle and then pokemon!hero and partner. but now i’m more all over the place lol

they really looked up to each other, the both of them were really brave and also had moments of doubt and wondering if their plan would really work, but having each other to count on helped a lot, there’s no way they would’ve gotten as far as they did without each other

i like the idea that grovyle first met hero as a treecko and they spent years together before managing to travel to the past, getting stronger together

it was sadly one of those situations where grovyle didn’t completely put together his feelings until after they arrived at the past. he missed hero deeply and felt very lost and unsure, but eventually moved past it enough, “because no matter what, i can’t allow this mission to fail. they would want me to keep going, just like i would want them to continue”

after the reveal of hero being turned into a pokemon and losing their memory, grovyle was very….mixed. on one hand he was happy to see they were alright after all, pokemon or not. but being the only one with the memories of their past together did hurt him, along with seeing how much hero and partner got along and worked well together

there’s a point when he’s joined up where he confesses a few things to hero in private one night when partner is asleep. he figures that if they’re going to be successful at this, the least he wanted to do was to share his feelings with hero, even if they don’t remember him. hero is of course shocked at his confession and takes a minute to think things over, but then they smile and thank him, saying “i’m sorry that i don’t remember you, i would feel very upset too if something happened to me and (partner) and only i remembered our time together. but i’m glad you told me these things, it really shows how much you cared, and i can at least appreciate that. maybe somewhere deep down i do remember…..but i can tell you this; your fight was not in vain. you didn’t really lose me, i’m still going to be there to help save this world! being here with (partner) showed me enough, this world is worth saving, and i promise i’ll do whatever it takes to accomplish that” (grovyle gets a little teary and just says “you really are (hero)”)

grovyle remembers that speech well, and it becomes his new motivation to keep fighting, to keep trying to save the pokemon world, for hero and everyone else
