I've always wanted to go on a cruse but I've heard horror stories of people getting sick, etc. Did you like it? Any tummy troubles or seasickness?

@feelavalanche It was my second cruise actually! First one was Alaska, my grandpa took everyone to celebrate his 90th birthday. I was the only one who loved it so I went on this one alone lol

I didn't feel sick at all, but it's going to vary person to person obviously. I've always been fine on boats, even really choppy ones, but my mom gets motion sickness and even the big ocean liners will get to her after a while.

People get regular-sick a lot on cruises also, because of the shared space, but I have a weirdly teflon immune system despite the way I live my life so I was fine there too (inactivity and Culvers keeps me strong lmao). Everyone who boarded needed to be vaccinated at least, and I think on most big ships you always have to option to not be super close-quarters with the rest of the guests if you don't want to be.

Last Song: Got to Give it Up Part 1 by Marvin Gaye, doing double duty of being on the Practical Magic soundtrack and also having the grooviest vibes. So I can use it to vibe on the current fic and the secret next one.

Currently watching: Call the Midwife, actually. This was one of the first shows my husband and I ever started watching together. It has a bunch of seasons, so we left off in Season 5 a few years ago. Now it’s fun because he’s had all his maternity training in nursing school and he can kinda fact check it as it’s happening.

Last TV Show: Inventing Anna, though only by a technicality, strangely. Hubby and I had a hard time with all the horrible rich people so we took a break right before the last episode to “just see” about Our Flag Means Death, binged that whole show, and then had to come back to Inventing Anna like “alright, let’s finish this with honor.”

Currently reading: In print, Frankenstein. I have read it four times already but my besties and I are on a classics run in book club. In fic, Time is On My Side by @wrylywriting !

unforch u are gonna have to hear about my current obsession (wrestling rpf) because it's literally the only thing i ever wanna talk about (unless it's me Looking Respectfully at the racecar men but that's another post).

me and @longnationalnightmare went absolutely apeshit one night thinking about an au where jim and dustin were dating/got married real young. they were both lil baby trash indie wrestlers and were making shit and didn't care. full "we can live on love alone" status and getting the shit kicked out of them up and down the east coast. and then, i don't know. shit got hard. jim's career started kinda taking off. dustin's wasn't, and then dustin got hurt. it wouldn't have made a difference—shouldn't have made a difference—but dustin got mean about it, drinking too much, depressed as shit. who knows what was the thing that made it tip over from miserable to unbearable but something did, and jim gave up. he was right to—they were just fucking hurting each other and it wasn't gonna stop.

but then jim ended up dating some guy—we'll call him josh. josh isn't a wrestler. josh is an accountant. or a risk analyst. or an optometrist. who cares. he thinks jim's wrestling career is funny. he doesn't mean to be condescending about it—it's not like he doesn't come to matches when he can. he hoots and hollers with the best of them. just, sometimes it's kind of annoying when he talks about how jim could always go back to architecture any time he wanted. jim knows josh loves him. knows jim's schedule is hard on him, and is grateful josh is so nice about it. and then one night at dinner with all of josh and jim's nice friends, josh gets down on one knee and asks the question. of COURSE jim says yes, like what else is he even gonna say? but his mind is racing with something like panic, and a few days later he apologizes, says he's just gotten last minute booked in california—he'll be back as soon as he can. josh kisses him on the head, says no problem, takes him to the airport where jim buys a flight down south instead.

u know the deal now. jim rents a car, drives out to murray, goes looking for dustin. he left dustin in BAD shape, tbh, so he's pretty much expecting to find him in some dive bar, playing darts, trashtalking people who absolutely would punch him, doing shots with anyone who would buy them.

instead, dustin's mom hugs him, yells at him for not calling, and gives him directions to find dustin with a little unreadable look on her face. he's like "cool, whatever" and so is entirely emotionally unprepared to pull up to a newish looking building with a fresh sign advertising Big Cat Wrestling School. jim lets himself in, hesitantly, looking around. it's a big place, clean, equipment stacked everywhere. there's a group of teens in the ring, practicing chops on each other and laughing. there's a frazzled looking twenty-something trying to help another cluster of nine-year-olds practicing somersaults on the mats. jim edges back against the wall, and looks around, brain completely blanked out.

"dustin!" one of the kids shrieks suddenly, and peels off from the group, tackles dustin as he comes in the front door. dustin lifts him up, and powerslams him into the mat while he dissolves in giggles. "get to work, squirt," he says, and keeps going.

"dustin" someone else says, and dustin says "later kevin, i really gotta do payroll if you idiots want beer money," and the guy goes "no, i mean--" and points to jim.

"oh," dustin says, blinking at him. "huh." he doesn't look happy exactly. jim doesn't know how to read his face. dustin takes him to the back, into nice-sized office with his name on the plaque outside. jim wanders around, touches stuff on the shelves, looks at the photos. "you own this place?" he says, finally.

"yeah," dustin says. "well, the bank owns a lot of it but i get to sign the checks."

"good—" jim says. "good, that's—really good. i just—when i left—i didn't know you wanted this."

"well," dustin says, kind of flatly. "we stopped talking much at the end." jim doesn't have anything to say to that, touches one finger to a framed picture of dustin at the bottom of a pile of something like 20 beaming kids. "so what brings you here?" dustin says, after a beat.

"oh," jim says, and then he nervously twists the silver band on his finger. "i uh—got engaged last weekend."

"oh yeah?" dustin says, face unreadable. "congratulations. i guess you came down to get that divorce you wanted."

"yeah," jim says. "i brought the papers." the ones you sent back three times, he doesn't say.

"that was nice of you," dustin says. "i'm still not signing shit. it was good seeing you though. say hi to your sisters for me."

jim glares at him. dustin grins.

Like I get it. It's one of those songs with universal appeal, that almost everyone knows, and most people love, but I literally have to leave the room if it's playing.

It's one of those weird cultural touchstones people are very sensitive about. As if you've kicked their puppy by suggesting you don't like it.

But somehow I think Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and all the rest will manage to persevere, even if I don't like their song.

I think I’ve said this to you before but there is something about the way you write fez… Sometimes I’ll read a fic and the way fez is written feels out of character to me and I’m not kidding I will think of your fics and how you write him so well. The characterization just hits for me. I can’t really put it into words but it feels like you “do right by him” like you don’t try to change how he actually speaks? I dont know but THANK YOU is all 😍

I think I got something in my fuckin' eye...

My Fez characterisation is the on e you think of, when Fez seems out of character?! That is seriously filling me with so much joy and almost a sense of pride.

Fez is such a complex character. There are so many layers to him, so many factors to consider when writing out his motivations, his introspection, and there's so much to balance, because the way he is with Lexi is very different to how he is with other people. His vernacular in itself can be challenging, because I want to write it in a way that seems authentic - like you say, I don't want to change how he actually speaks - without him becoming a caricature of a gangster.

But it's also the fun of writing him - because you get to write these really insightful, intelligent, kind points, but dilute the sentiments with swearing and slang. Then you contrast it with Lexi's eloquence, but she is unfazed by the way he speaks, she understands what he is saying perfectly, because she's actually listening.

All this to say that Fez's characterisation requires a lot of thought and so hearing that my Fez is written so well is a high compliment and I am very, very touched. Especially from a Fexi fic connoisseur such as yourself!

not to add to the flood of fic rec asks in your inbox this morning, but girl you've got to hook me up. I just finished Riverdale yesterday and I don't know where to start. Betty/Jughead fic's, obviously (I don't care about Archie/Veronica, tbh), but I'll also take Kevin/Joaquin fic's.

There was a LITERAL (and not so quiet) shriek that just went through my office. I had to cover it up with a weird sort of cough. The tax clerk thinks I’m on drugs or something. Payables asked over the cubicle wall if I was going to be okay and I got a dirty look from the receptionist.

What’s a fic that you feel still sticks with you long after you read it?

There are so many good fics, the fexi hive is really talented. But here are my 5 fics i will never forget:

1. Folsom Prison Blues by Blu1376: This will live rent free in my head forever. The angst and amount of emotions i went through when reading this was mind-blowing. I still remember some scenes from time to time.

2. to light up your night (with only my smile and nothing that burns) by the lovely @lesser-bohemian. I'll always remember this fic as having a small therapy session. The insecurities reflected on fez where so relatable and this warmed my heart.

3. The Beast You've Made Of Me by @feelavalanche. A classic. I have read this so many times and I'm team Demisexual Fez.

4. half love, half regret by @luuver3. Em took my small prompt and made it a hot masterpiece. Just chef kiss.

5. The Date by @coco-bug. It has my favorite ash, the conversation between Lexi and Ash in the third episode is the most canon interaction between them. Loved the backstory of ash and his relationship with kitty.

Bonus for i was in the hall when you died that made me cry like a baby, and every @myfemininedivine hot fic that make me a sinner.

U: Share three of your favourite fic writers and why you like them so much

I'm going to answer with more than three, sorry! In no particular order:

@blergging My fellow Taurus plot-hating sister! I adore her work, it is all so carefully written, and her prose is gorgeous to read. Her ideas are so original and creative and unique, and she deserves so much recognition for the content she’s putting out there. ‘Velveteen Rabbit’ soothed something deep in my soul.

@nothing-goldstays Not to state the obvious in including Frankie on this list, but her work is so amazing. So solid. The way that she balances sensuality with sweetness is so impressive and so exciting. 'all for us' is easily one of the best fics in this fandom, in my opinion.

@kaysars-fbi-hat I couldn't talk enough about her work! Admittedly I am criminally behind but the good news is that I get to binge read it soon. I just love her characterisation and the sweet scenarios she comes up with, I love the comfort and the softness.

@calculated2stagger Will my excitement for your fics ever cease? No, it will not. But really, so much thought goes into your understanding of the characters and I really admire the magnitude of your knowledge and your talent. Your work is so compelling.

@liz-saltzmans Jules is providing the comfort fics of your dreams. Her texting fics are obviously everything, but I love that she's dipping her toes into angstier waters lately - 'we'll never make my parents mistakes' is SO good. So is 'i became hypnotized by freckles and bright eyes'.

@starfishspencers the talent is a bit over the top honestly. 'and i'm south of the line' is obscenely beautiful. I have to catch up with your most recent works and I'm very excited about doing so!

@feelavalanche endlessly amazing, couldn't talk enough about it, everything is so well planned, so solid, her account is the place you go for quality content

@lesvibes is putting out beautiful work, 'Latch' is an all time favourite. I never wanted that fic to end. It's just so beautiful. Her characterisation is perfect, her prose is so lovely, I'm just obsessed.

melobaby on ao3 is amazing... one of my favourite smut writers honestly, they keep the focus on love in a way that appeals to me, and everything is just so sweet and hot and written in such a beautiful way. If you're on Tumblr please let's be friends.

@clarabellewrites 'the divine feminine' is iconic. Claire is really keeping the whole fandom on the edge of its seat waiting for updates. So much talent!
