Itâs your first semester living off-campus, and Finn is boundlessly enthusiastic about all things that involve cheap liquor and crowded spaces, even more so now that she roped you into being her roommate after promising to split the cost of furnishing an apartment thatâs probably too expensive for two undergrads working part-time, low-pay jobs.
You donât like parties, really.Â
Movies and the social connotations surrounding parties have always made them seem like some monumental proverbial chip in your college experience; the real thing, once the bright-eyed shine of trying something new wears off, is more or less a bunch of random people packed into a room like sardines who abate their social awkwardness with alcohol and loud music.
So, no, you canât exactly say that you enjoy the thought of Finnâs friends (and everyone she hardly smiles at) cramping up your already tiny apartmentâespecially when one of them is Miller from one of your business classes, who gives you the creeps.Â
And leave it to Finn to invite him, anyway.
"Now he knows where I live," you grumble into your bowl of cerealâsomething probably too sweet and (definitely) full of sugar for breakfast.
Finn shrugs, not at all worried for you, as she pours more sticky orange batter into the hot pan on the stove. "The guy has a crush on you. I think it's cute. And he seems harmless."
âHarmless until I end up in a ditch somewhere.â
You donât have to see her face to know sheâs doing that thing with her mouth whenever you say something she thinks is ridiculous. âIf youâd agree to split the Netflix bill, you wouldnât be stuck watching horror movies. Why do you only own horror movies, again?â
"That's easy for you to say.â You roll your eyes, ignoring her question. âYou donât have to sit by him every week.â
(As if that would ever convince her to change her mind.)
"Ow! Shit!"
You look up right before Finn drops a steaming pancake onto her hand and rushes to the sink to run it under cold water. The mutilated pancake lay forgotten with the others that didn't survive her last several attempts.
"Finn, I think this is unnecessary," you tell her after swallowing a mouthful of cereal. "Can't you do something more practical? Like sticking a note to their door?"
Finn looks up from the sink, her wild, red curls bouncing from the movement. "Oh, come on! Don't chicken out now. I've already made fifteen of these things." She points her pink spatula at the tower of not-quite pumpkin-shaped pancakes on the counter. "Plus, who's going to turn down free food? Now, go put on your costume and hand these out."
You shovel another spoonful of cereal into your mouth, scowling. "I'm not wearing the costume you picked out. It's so...inappropriate."
Youâre pretty sure Finn picked out your costume from the dicey sex shop down the street rather than an actual Halloween storeâthe amount of mesh compared to solid fabric only solidifies the theory.
Finn finally turns the water off and gives you a stern look, amused eyes set under a furrowed brow. "I can find the one you own in the children's section at Costco."
You roll your eyes. "I really donât feel like flashing my tits to the neighbors while offering them breakfast.â
She grins, wide and teasing. "You have nice tits, though.â
"Yeah, I'm sure the old woman down the hall would love to see her neighbor in the equivalent of a thong and nipple coverings at the start of her day." You donât think youâd ever be able to look her in the eye again.
"Miss Yado is cool,â Finn says, returning to the stove to continue cooking. âShe'll probably just tell you to wear a jacket or something."
You pick up your empty bowl and lean over the counter to put it in the sink. "I didn't know you talked to our neighbors."
Finn shrugs, flipping the pancake in the skillet. "She normally walks her dog while I'm heading to class. I stop to talk to her sometimes when I'm not running late."Â
âOh?â
She shoots you a wry grin over her shoulder. "You'd know the neighbors too if you didn't scowl all the time."
In response, the corners of your mouth tip down. "I donât scowl."
"Now, would you go change? These are getting cold."Â
Several minutes later, you come out of your room wearing the same costume you'd worn the past two years. Finn pouts when she sees you forwent the one she had picked out. However, she doesnât do more than shake her head and shove a handful of food containers full of pancakes into your hands.
âYouâll be fine. Just remember to smile,â she tells you before the front door closes behind you.
You start on your end of the hall, going door to door and handing out the small containers. The whole time, youâre wondering why Finn couldnât do this herself, considering youâre hardly a people person as is. Thankfully, nobody seemed too annoyed about being bothered on a Saturday morningâonly one neighbor shut the door in your face before you could say anything.
But itâs fine. Youâre not going to let it ruin your day. Plus, you only have one person left.
Thereâs a small pit of nerves in your stomach when you knock this timeâhalf expecting another door to the face. What you donât expect, however, is the tall and imposing guy who answers.
Who also doesnât appear to be any less annoyed.
Your mouth opens and closes helplessly, all words stuck to the back of your tongue, watching as stray water droplets drip down from his wet hair and travel down the side of his face before dispersing into the dark stubble lining his jaw.
You stare. And stare. Eyes, most likely, bugging unattractively out of your head.
How did Finn never mention the super hot neighbor who lived six doors down the hall?
He gives you a once-over, and part of you suddenly wishes youâd gone with Finn's costume instead. Only because here, at that moment, youâre willing to admit that maybe the one you have on looks like a six-year-old picked it outâespecially when this guy, who is way out of your league, scrutinizes it for a second longer, mostly your frilly crew socks.Â
"Can I help you?" he asks, his voice low as if he hasnât been awake for long.
You blink, mild embarrassment rushing through you from the sudden realization that youâve been standing there and saying absolutely nothing.
"Hi, um, I'm your neighbor from down the hall. My roommate and I are throwing a Halloween party, and we're inviting people in the building." Annoyance slowly melts off his face.
"Thank you,â heavily tattooed arms cross over his broad chest, and he leans against the door frame (and you definitely donât stare at how his biceps seem to strain against his black t-shirt). âBut I think I'm getting a little old for parties."
The corners of your mouth tip up in whatâs the beginning of a smile.
"Okay, sure. You're, what, twenty-five?"
Itâs a stupid joke, and for a moment, you panic, afraid heâd been unimpressed, but then his lips quirked slightly. "Not quite. Nice costume. Let me guess, fairy?"
"Witch, actually. Iâve always gone with something more original," you babble and bite your lip before you can say something else.
"Itâs cute."Â
Cute?
Youâre unsure if you should feel elated that he thinks so or self-consciousâthat he might be making fun of youâso you settle with a mumbled âthanks.â
"So, what's with the container?" he asks, nodding toward your hands.
"Oh, um, my roommate thought she could bribe people with food to come to the party." Truthfully, itâs to prevent potential complaints from the neighbors, but you decide not to mention that part, although you think he knows by the way the corner of his mouth subtly lifts.
You give him the plastic container and watch as he stares into it with a furrowed brow. "It's a... pancake?"
"Er, yeah. My roommate likes to go above and beyond for everything."
"What's it supposed to be?" he asks, glancing up at you.
"Um, a pumpkin..."
You look between him and the container and find Finn had accidentally mixed up her presentable pancakes with the throwaways. And the pumpkin shape is...well, it isn't.
"Ah, I see," he nods, his slowly drying hair falling onto his forehead. "That makes more sense."
You canât stop the giggle that bubbles to the surface. "You think you can do better?"
"Yes, actually," he grins back, all cocksure, with a flash of white teeth. "Maybe Iâll bring some over some time."
"I won't tell her you said that." However, you can't wait to rib Finn later.
"Right, it probably wouldn't make a very good first impression." Then he sticks out his free hand, "Simon."
You shyly shake itâignoring the little skip in your chest at how big his hand is compared to yoursâand tell him your name, too.
His eyes flicker down to his watch, and he curses under his breath. "Well, it was nice meeting you. But I have to finish getting ready for work."
Only then do you take note of the tactical pants and heavy boots heâs wearing.
When you meet his gaze again, you find amusement there, and you consider, with a new rush of mortification, that it probably seemed like youâd been openly eyeing his crotch.Â
You clear your throat, the back of your neck feeling hot, and you pointedly pretend your voice doesnât hitch when you breathe a soft, tremulous, "Okay, sure.â
"Tell your roommate I said thanks for breakfast."
"Yeah, I'll tell her. Um, I guess I'll see you around." No longer able to make eye contact with him, you turn away and begin walking (though itâs probably closer to running) toward your door.
And you definitely donât look over your shoulder to see if heâs still standing there.
You spend most of the party hanging out near the front door, quietly hoping Simon might show upâeven though it seems unlikely. After all, he did mention that heâs too old for parties, and a small, insecure part of you wonders if it was his polite way of turning you down.
"The guy was running late,â Finn had tried to reassure you. âI'm sure he was thinking about how to beat expressway traffic before the lunch hour rush hit. Not about the crazy lady in a witch costume running away from his door."
That was the initial deciding factor between your witch costume and the one Finnâs been trying to force you intoâonly so you donât have to hear another person call you cute just to seem nice.
And leave it to Finn to jump at the opportunity to help you get ready, though she nearly freaked out when you popped into your joint bathroom with an old tube of mascara that you rummaged out of your nightstand.
"Do you know how many germs are probably on that thing?" Finnâs nose scrunched up as she threw it away in the waste bin near the toilet. "Please tell me you haven't used it since you bought it?"
You had rolled your eyes. "Probably not."
Finn sighed, then smiled. "Luckily for you, I own more than a crusty mascara tube."Â
You were about to argue, but when Finn told you to sit on the toilet lid with a dangerously sharp liner pen, youâd clenched your jaw instead, unsure what you were more scared of when Finn brought the pen close to your face: that your friend might potentially stab you in the eye or that youâd come out of the bathroom with raccoon eyes.
Thankfully, when Finn finally finished, neither was the case, except the number of looks youâve been receiving anytime someone stops in the kitchen to get more drinks is something you hadnât anticipatedâespecially when one of them happens to be Miller.
Youâve been avoiding him and his overly bare chest from the moment he walked through your front door. It grew more challenging after Finn left your side (the traitor) to talk to a guy youâve seen her hanging around with on campus a few times.Â
And with the apartment feeling smaller than it already is, youâre only option is to blend in with the group hanging around your kitchen island.
Youâll be fine, Finn said.
Right, you think as you adjust the scanty tube top under your mesh shirt, trying to cover more of yourself with what little fabric you have at your disposal, and you wonder if itâs too late to changeâ
A knock at the door makes you perk up, regardless of how noisy the room is, with eardrum-shattering music and loud college students. You pull it open, expecting to see Simon on the other side, only to be disappointed when itâs one of Finnâs friends and her girlfriend instead.
"Hey, Roma." You realize you probably sound rude and attempt to give them your best smileâwhich is more or less a grimace.
Roma smooths out her extremely short referee-style dress. "Sorry, we're late! I couldn't remember where you lived. There are way too many blue apartment buildings around here..."
Everything sheâs saying goes in one ear and out the other when you spot Simon stepping out of the door to the stairway across the hall. You hold your breath, waiting for him to look up from his phone.
But he keeps walking.
"Uh, yeah," you say distractedly before speeding up the conversation. "Hey, Finn is in the living room, but I'll see you guys inside, okay? I need to do something."
You step around them to catch up to Simon, which you learn isnât easy in heels. So you call his name, hoping he hears you and smiling when he turns toward you. And you donât miss how his gaze trails down your body slowly.
It makes something inside you quiver as you nervously play with the short hem of your skirt.
âHey,â he says, sounding every bit as tired as he looksâhis shirt from that morning now wrinkled with bluish hollows under his eyesâthough he tries to hide it with what you think is an attempt at a smile.
And your cheeks burn because you feel guilty.Â
"Hey," you repeat dumbly.Â
Your eyes lower as his smile melts into one of faint amusement at your lack of tact. You fidget, shifting from one foot to the other. Maybe, you think, you should have let him walk into his apartment before you could embarrass yourself further today. Â
After a moment, you meet his gaze again.Â
"Uh, I just wanted to see if you still wanted to come overâŚBut I imagine you're probably not up for it, so Iâll leaveâ"
Simon surprises you when he shrugs his shoulders and says, "Sure."
Your mouth gapes, unsure if you heard him correctly. "Wh-what?"
"I just need to shower and change, and then I'll be over. Okay?"
"I... yeah, okay," your nod is shy, trying not to betray eagerness.
A lazy grin stretches across his mouth. "Nice costume, by the way," he disappears into his apartment before he can witness how his words make you flush.
And you walk back to your apartment feeling a little more floaty than when you left.

David Gaider on Flemeth, under a cut for length:
"I have a type. I admit it. There are certain wells I can return to repeatedly and always find something new to explore. One of them is older female characters. Mike used to rib me about it. Consider Wynne. Meredith. Genevieve. And, of course, the biggie: Flemeth. Why are they a type? I... don't know, honestly. I guess I have a feeling that older men fade, they strive to regain their youth or establish a legacy and we've seen that story a thousand times, but older women? They become free to become something new. I guess I see so many possibilities in that. I had a conception of who Flemeth was, and why, right from the very start. Her creation went hand in hand with Morrigan, as a being whose thirst for retribution hundreds of years ago attracted an entity (slight confession: I didn't know Mythal specifically, at the time, "an elven god" was enough). I also knew where Morrigan was right and very wrong about her. Misconceptions of the truth are built into DA's foundation, and they were fundamental to this mother-daughter relationship I was building. Like many seeds I'd put in the world, however, I had no idea whether I'd ever get to explore it. Knowing that she was a character of possible future importance, if not a major player in DAO, I wasn't much surprised when she was one of the first cuts the art team made in terms of getting a unique appearance. Thus the "batty old woman" players met in DAO. Not as hard a cut as the Qunari, though."
"Going into DA2, I wanted both Morrigan and Flemeth, but we could only have one. So I picked Flemeth. This was the game where she really got to come into her own. I remember the art team coming and asking if it was OK if she got a new model, as it'd be a retcon of sorts. I didn't care. I wanted it. I honestly don't remember whether Kate Mulgrew was cast before or after Claudia. After, I think? All I recall is that Cab came into my office one day and asked if Kate might be a good fit. Asked me, the dyed-in-the-wool Trekkie who had stuck with Voyager even through the admittedly lean years? The squeal I made was un-manly. Cab took that as a "yes". đ
I didn't get to talk to Kate until DA2, however. Schedules being what they were, we had a tight window to record Flemeth... so I had to write all her scenes before almost anything else in DA2 was written, before I even had a team! Ack! It was OK, though, for the most part. I knew where I wanted to take her, and a big part of it was going to explain her transition - to set her up for the future. So I whipped up a script in, like, two days and off we went. Kate was a marvel in the booth. She adored Flemeth and you could really tell. I didn't get to meet Kate in person, however, until DAI. This came pretty late in its development, compared to when we recorded her for DA2, and we flew down to Virginia (to accommodate her schedule - she was writing her memoir at the time, I think) for a single session. It was going to be *tight*."
"I was a mess. I was finally going to meet Captain Janeway... and yes yes, I know she's also more than that. But come ON. When we sat down, I figured I'd have to talk her through the character all over again. It'd been years since that one session at the start of DA2, right? And even more since DAO. But, no. Kate remembered Flemeth perfectly. I remember sitting there as she told me how much she loved the character, how rare it was to get one with so much texture and possibility. She called out my writing - my writing! - and waxed poetic about how she viewed Flemeth's arc. I... I was floored. đŤ Then we began recording. One issue that quickly reared its head was how Caroline had to speed through the lines if we hoped to finish. Kate was a trooper, and most takes she'd get it in one (which is rare), but I was alarmed because we weren't giving Kate time to read the VO comments on each line. I brought it up, as there were some lines (so much sarcasm) that required nuance - Kate was getting them, oddly, but I was worried. "Oh, it's fine," Kate said. "I read the comments as we go." "How could you? We're going so fast!" "I'm a speed reader." Oh. OK, then. That certainly explained it. đ We got to the confrontation scene with Morrigan and she nailed it. Over and over. More than once, Caroline would make a call and, before I could even interject and say "no, Kate had it right, actually" Kate would explain exactly why she did it that way and why it worked for Flemeth. I was in love. She did the "I will see her avenged!" section all in one go. I got chills. Then we got to the final scene. You know the one. With Solas. It was this beautiful moment. She took it somewhere quiet and sad... and when she got to that last line, we all felt it: Flemeth was dead. Everyone was in tears. I suppose I could talk more about the process. How she started off aligned with Morrigan's original Delirium inspiration, but I didn't pull back her loopy way of talking as much (bet you wondered). I still don't know why it was so easy to slip into her voice, but I'm grateful I got the chance. â¤ď¸"

I think this is a very useful analysis that helpfully puts into words some of the scattered thoughts I've had, but have not been able to centralize, articulate, or otherwise had the spoons to offer post-election.
The one thing Bernie has not gotten and never gotten, even with all his Champion of the Working Class cosplay crusading (as a wealthy Vermont millionaire who has accomplished very little during his long tenure in office aside from repeatedly fracturing the Democratic party), is that a lot of the American working class see billionaires (as pointed out above) as aspirational role models, not evil parasites. Scholars can and indeed have written many long sociological, political, and analytical papers about the "What's the Matter with Kansas?" problem, wherein working class and poor people vote against their own economic interests in order to elevate grifting xenophobic populists whose policies only benefit the already-rich. For one thing, this presupposes the "rational individual" economic-maximization model of human behavior, which was popularized in the free-market 1970s and 80s, and has never been true in any meaningful sense, but as pointed out above: America is addicted to the "hard work makes you rich and billionaires have clearly worked to earn their wealth" mindset. They are equally addicted to the "temporarily dispossessed millionaire" fallacy, wherein if they too just Pull Themselves Up By The Bootstraps, that is the only thing stopping them from being equally wealthy. It's not, but we're still absolutely throttled by the "Republicans Are Better For The Economy" myth that just played a huge part in Trump's second election win. What's empirically "real" or not matters less and less.
Bernie's brand of faux-leftist populism is so toxic in America precisely because it pairs this apparent destruction of the American Dream (hey why do you want to destroy my chance of becoming a billionaire?!) with virulent anti-American tankie-lite rhetoric spouted by the online left, who see America as the source of all evil in the world despite benefiting enormously from their upbringing in America and access to American privilege. We can (and again, have!) written many, many papers about the founding and continuing social ills embedded in America: its establishment on the back of slavery, racism, genocide, and so on. But when it comes to day-to-day electoral politics, the average mid-to-low-information American voter does not give a shit about complicated historical debates and generational injustices. They just don't. They care about how much things cost at the grocery store and what the vibes "feel" like to them. After a brief upsurge of social acceptance in 2020 with BLM/George Floyd, they've also lost interest in dealing with systemic racism, and are inclined to accept Trump's easy-scapegoating rhetoric. This is not limited to white people either; witness the major gains he made with Hispanics in particular. The ones who are able to vote in presidential elections are US citizens and see themselves as safely insulated from Trump's mass-deportation policies because they're not undocumented (even if they have friends and relatives who are and who are very much NOT safe). They want to preserve their own piece of the pie and are not acting in grand pan-Latino racial solidarity. Nobody says they have to -- they can focus on their own personal interests just as much as white voters -- but they're definitely one of the communities who are in the soonest for a rude wakeup call.
Looking at the election results shows that America is, as ever, an extremely divided country. This election was not a landslide for Trump. The Republicans benefited from an extremely favorable map to pick up WV, OH, MT, PA in the Senate, but added no House seats and still have a tiny majority of about 3 (which may shrink further with special elections and/or unexpected departure). Trump got 49.9% of the vote; Harris got around 48.5%. The American electorate is not left-wing; it is also not immutably right-wing. It is primarily transactional, "what have you done for me lately," and cursed with low information literacy, sophisticated disinformation campaigns, and short-term memory that is worse than a goldfish. Abortion passed everywhere except in FL (where it needed 60% and got 57%). As ever, the public liked Democratic policies, but voted for Republicans to punish Democrats for not implementing them fast enough. That is one of the most maddening paradoxes in all of American politics and it fucked us good this time, but that's the twist of the screw. The Republicans also benefited from the post-COVID anti-incumbency that kicked Trump out in 2020. A lot of the scary things that happened in the last four years -- rising prices, ongoing threats to democracy, Dobbs, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, etc -- were not necessarily Biden's fault, but they happened on his watch and contributed to the sense of visceral fear and threat that is always a better predictor of electoral behavior than the flawed idea of Rational Economic Maximization.
As such, despite the avalanche of "What Democrats Must Do Now" postmortems, we should definitely point out that Bernie instantly threw them under the bus for not being "pro-worker," when the Biden administration was the most pro-worker, pro-labor, and anti-corporate in recent history (and due to the electoral backlash it received as a result, quite possibly for a very long time). Bernie primarily conceives of the American working class as white people, often white men, engaged in customary trade-union pursuits, which is outdated and inadequate and reeks of the rancid "the left wasn't nice enough to fragile insecure white men" takes that are latently or openly misogynist. Biden did a hell of a lot to address their economic interests, and they punished him for it, because what is at stake, in their minds, isn't actually their economic interest (even if that's what is often used to describe it) but their position of unquestioned power as white men. They will happily give up the chance of better economic policies if it means continuing to assert their authority over other marginalized people; their lot might not be great, but at least they're still white. And indeed, still men. Bernie complaining that the Democrats didn't cater enough to White Men is, objectively, bullshit.
As such, I can tell you that one way that the Democrats can get back to electoral relevancy, which is definitely likely in 2026 and 2028 if we can get that far, is not by listening to Bernie. "Destroy the billionaires" paired with toxic tankie rhetoric driven by the online left competing with each other to be more extreme and unpleasant is electoral poison and that's why Bernie's chronic campaigning got him nowhere and fatally splintered the Democratic party in 2016, allowing Trump to win in the first place. It's a dud. The end. There is nothing positive or constructive in that vision, and while riding aggrieved populism can get you decently far, it also has to be a populism that's rooted in some idea of America, however shallow and lip-service. "Make America Great Again," despite how much Trump does to destroy America in every conceivable sense, works because MAGAts wave American flags and feel like a righteous and integral part of their country. The fact that in this election cycle, Democrats actually embraced love-of-country rhetoric, American flags, and appeals to fundamental "American" values, no matter how cringy and schmaltizily-nationalistic it feels to educated liberals, is an important part of getting that ground back. It promotes the idea that you can love America (however defined) and vote Democratic, and we can't give that up. Because then yeah, everyone waving the flag will be a jingoistic MAGA fascist, and people who like and respond to that imagery (which is a decent majority of ordinary Americans) will want to associate with them by default.
Likewise: a lot of online leftist/Bernie Bro rhetoric focuses on the magical revolution fantasy that America will just disappear and/or be Gloriously Overthrown and thus, somehow, all injustice from the tyrannical government will come to an end and we will live in a perfect utopia forevermore! (Uh, ask the Bolsheviks how that worked out for them.) America is an enormously flawed historical and geopolitical entity, but one thing it is not going to do is suddenly disappear overnight because of deranged Moral Purity Posting by so-called leftist keyboard warriors. It still matters how its massive power is used, and as anyone with a brain cell was well aware beforehand, Trump is only going to abuse it ever more egregiously. He will try to stay in office (if he doesn't die beforehand); he will pack SCOTUS with more corrupt toadies; he will do his best to wreck anything and everything that stymied him last time. He will undoubtedly succeed in at least some of that, and that is very scary. However, as I have said before, his total success is neither inevitable nor even very likely. If we are going to continue to hold the line and find victories where they come, we need to do a lot of things, but chief among them is not listen to Bernie F'n Sanders. He can, indeed, take several seats.
Bernie is wrong. He has always been wrong and is still wrong. The flaw in his theory is what he deems the âwealthy eliteâ versus what everyday Americans consider them to be. Voters donât see all billionaires as the elites. They see college-educated liberals on the coasts, some of whom are billionaires, as elites.
Bernie-style populism didnât land because billionaires figured out long ago they could undermine it by being socially right-wing, and the working class would forgive their wealth and privilege. Thatâs why this same demographic is willing to make it rain for grifters like Joel Osteen and Pat Robertson. Thatâs why they worship the wealthiest man on the planet like a God and consider him some real-life Tony Stark. People dismissed Donald Trump as a shameless attention-hungry New York oligarch until he called Mexicans rapists. Then he shot up to the top of the GOP primary polls. The working class didnât think much of Elon Musk until he said âpronouns suck.â Then he became their hero. A scion of working-class Pennsylvania lost his US Senate seat last week to a hedge fund manager from Connecticut. West Virginia elected their richest man to the Senate after electing him governor â as a Democrat and later a Republican. Ohio tossed out their longtime Democratic senator, known for his strong support of labor rights, for â literally, no joke â a used-car salesman.
You canât tell me the working class in America thinks being a billionaire alone is what makes one a âwealthy elite.â There are significant factors at play here Bernie is either oblivious to or purposely ignorant of.
In college, a professor once told me that Communism never succeeded in the United States because we are too religious and proud as a country. Religion, traditions, and culture were never widely discredited the way they were in Europe and Asia, where the clergy and nobility kept the bourgeoisie in figurative chains for centuries. The relative ease of social mobility made America unique compared to its Western counterparts. Historically, American progressivism has been focused on expanding social mobility â initially limited to only white men â to identity groups who had been denied it at the start: blacks, women, and immigrants. We have done it, with various amounts of success. While it may seem counterintuitive, Americans pride themselves in being the nation that pioneered the idea that wealth and status can be achieved through ingenuity and hard work and not just based on a lucky roll of the genetic dice, as it was in the Old World. It doesnât mean we donât have generational wealth in our country; we do, but since it isnât the sole way to achieve wealth and power, we donât care nearly as much about destroying all of it. Further, we will happily endorse it if the oligarchs and the aristocrats vow to promote and protect the social values we care about and the social hierarchy that benefits us.
Itâs one of the reasons I believe Bernie could never beat Trump. If you ask working-class people what they want: an anti-immigrant, anti-intellectual billionaire or a Vermont socialist backed by kids from Harvard and UC Berkeley who hate our traditions and customs, the working class will always back the billionaire.

part one | part two | angst | series m.list
silence filled the air on the other side of the phone as you waited for kyle, your foot tapping against the soft carpet, a muffled sound that was something more than just what you had in the background.
"kyle? hello? i'm not in the mood..." you muttered and sunk into the couch feeling the anger melt to concern which was always the first thing you had to deal with when simon didn't answer.
there was shuffling in the background, and then you heard simon's voice come over the phone, rough like sandpaper but it was still enough to calm your racing heart. he was safe and sound for now.
your fingers picked at the loose threads of the pillow that lay in your lap waiting for simon. "sorry love, john needed me and all the guys came over so i lost track of time." he murmured with regret.
"needed you for what? i must've of missed when you and him had a baby. you know what? forget about it, just another mess that i cleaned up and simone deserves the apology, not me." you hissed.
now that you knew he was okay and alive the anger came back ten-fold, zipping through your bloodstream and flushing you with heat as you gripped your phone. "i'll be there for breakfast, sorry luv."
once he was off the call you sighed and wiped at your eyes feeling the tears finally stream down your and wet your shirt as you sobbed in the darkened living room trying to calm yourself down for the time.
if simone came out and saw you it would turn into a never-ending night and you didn't want her to see you like this, red-rimmed eyes and a heaving chest from trying to be silent as you thought of simon.
all the memories you both had were now tainted by the push of divorce, wouldn't it better to live life like this or try to work it out?
picking yourself up from the cushions that threatened to eat you, you stood and made your way to your bedroom feeling your phone buzz in your hand. it was simon. against your better judgement, you answered the call and opened your bedroom door.
"can i see her? i know she's sleeping but i'd like to check on my princess and my wife." his voice was still sandpaper rough and tinted with something that clawed to the surface wanting to be free.
you sighed and took a few steps back to peek into simone's room watching as she cuddled with her teddybear that she had you get a shirt with simon's face on it. "fine, only for ten mintues. max."
even though you still no longer wear your ring you love simon, always have, and feared you always will. no matter who you dated, he would always be in the back of your mind and he'd always be your soulmate.
trudging back into the living room you gathered all the toys and put them in simone's bucket when there was a soft knock on the door pulling you away from the task at hand. "come in!" you called out.
thankfully with how small the apartment was simon heard you and stepped inside kicking his boots off and making sure he didn't track dirt through the place. when he came into the living room you looked at him and pointed down the hallway. "just please be quiet."
you watched as simon made his way down the hall softly and gently which was kind of funny with how big and imposing he was. unable to help yourself you followed after and peeked your head in too.
it felt like old times when you and he would check in on her when it was time to transfer her to her big girl bed which meant a lot of late-night bedtime stories and more kisses and cuddles to soothe her.
"she's everything you are." simon murmured feeling a lump form in his throat as he watched simone, then you rubbed his back.
"what do you mean?" you asked quietly.
simon turned his head to look at you, his lips quirking in a smile as memories played. "she's sweet, kind, loving, and thinks about others above herself." he murmured, his head dipping down a little.
you met his heady gaze and crossed your arms over your chest. "don't be so hard on yourself si, she is tough as hell, doesn't take shit from anyone, last week she stuck up for her friend at school."
there was a moment of clarity and understanding as you nodded your head towards the couch. "simone would love to see you when she wakes." you told him with a smile that didn't meet your eyes.
he watched you slip away from him again putting the wall of space up, but this time it was a door.

Language Apps Suck, Now What?: A Guide to Actually Becoming "Fluent"
The much requested sequel to my DL post that was promised almost a year ago.
I'm going to address all of the techniques that have helped me in my language learning journeys. Since 95% of these came from the fact that in a past language learning mistake, they are titled as my mistakes (and how I would/did things differently going forward). For those that read to the bottom there is a "best universal resources" list.
Disclaimers:
"Fluency" is hard to define and everyone has their own goals. So for the purpose of this post, "fluency" will be defined as "your personal mastery target of the language".
If you just want to pick up a bit of a language to not sound like a total foreigner on vacation or just exchange a few words in a friend's native language, feel free to ignore what doesn't apply, but maybe something here could help make it a little easier.
This is based on my own personal experience and (some) research.
Mistake 1: Asymmetrical Studying
Assuming you don't just want to do a single activity in a language, or are learning a language like ASL, a language requires 4 parts to be studied: Speaking, Listening, Writing, Reading. While these have overlap, you can't learn speaking from reading, or even learn speaking from just listening. One of my first Chinese teachers told me how he would listen to the textbook dialogues while he was biking to classes and it helped him. I took this information, thought "Yeah that's an idea, but sounds boring" and now regret not taking his advice nearly every day.
I think a lot of us find methods we enjoy to study (mine was reading) and assume that if we just do that method more ⢠it will eventually help us in other areas (sometimes it does, but that's only sometimes). Find a method that works for you for each area of study, even better find more than one method since we use these skills in a variety of manners! I can understand a TV program pretty well since I have a lot of context clues and body language to fill in any gaps of understanding, but taking a phone call is much harderâthe audio is rougher, there's no body language to read, and since most Chinese programs have hard coded subtitles, no subtitles to fall back on either. If I were to compare the number of hours I spent reading in Chinese to (actively) training my listening? Probably a ratio of 100 to 1. When I started to learn Korean, the first thing I did was find a variety of listening resources for my level.
Fix: Find a variety of study methods that challenge all aspects of the language in different ways.
A variety of methods will help you develop a more well-rounded level of mastery, and probably help you keep from getting bored. Which is important because...
Mistake 2: Inconsistent Studying
If there is one positive to a language app, it is the pressure it puts on keeping a streak. Making studying a part of your everyday routine is the best thing you can do. I benefited a lot from taking a college language course since I had a dedicated time to study and practice Chinese 5 days out of the week (and homework usually filled the other two). Memorization is a huge part of language learning, and stopping and starting is terrible for memorization. When I was in elementary school, we had Spanish maybe a couple times a month. Looking back, it seems like it was the first class to be cut if we needed to catch up on a more important course. Needless to say, I can't even speak Spanish at an elementary level.
However, I'm sure many people reading this don't have the time to do ultra-immersion 4-hour study sessions every day either. Find what days during the week you have time to focus on learning new vocab and grammar, and use the rest of the week to review. This can be done on your commute to school/work, while you do the dishes, or as a part of your morning/evening routine. Making this as realistic as possible will help you actually succeed in making this a habit. (Check this out for how to set realistic study goals)
Fix: Study regularly (ideally daily) by setting realistic goals. Avoid "binge" studying since remembering requires consistent repetition to be most effective.
Mistake 3: Resource Choice
This is really composed of two mistakes, but I have a good example that will cover them both.
First, finding resources that are at or slightly above your level is the most important thing. Easy resources will not challenge you enough and difficult resources will overwhelm you. The ideal is n+1, with n as what you know plus 1 new thing.
Second, getting distracted by fancy, new technology. Newer isn't always better, and there are often advantages that are lost when we've made technological developments. I often found myself wanting to try out new browser extensions or organizational methods and honestly I would've benefitted from just using that time to study. (Also, you're probably reading this because of my DL post so I don't think it has to be said that AI resources suck.)
A good example of this was my time using Clozemaster. I had actually recommended it when I first started using it since I thought the foundation was really solid. However, after long term use, I found that it just wasn't a good fit. The sentences were often too simple or too long and strange for memorization at higher levels or were too difficult at lower levels. I think that taking my textbook's example sentences from dialogues into something like Anki would've been a far better use of my time (and money) as they were already designed to be at that n+1 level.
Fix: "Vet" your resourcesâmake sure they will actually help you. If something is working for you, then keep using it! You don't always have to upgrade to the newest tool/method.
Mistake 3.5: Classrooms and Textbooks
A .5 since it's not my mistake, but an addendum of caution. I think there is a significant part of the language learning community that views textbooks and classroom learning as the worst possible resource. They are "boring", "outdated", and "ineffective" (ironically one of the most interesting modern language learning methods, ALG, is only done in a classroom setting). Classrooms and textbooks bring back memories of being surrounded by mostly uninterested classmates, minimal priority, and a focus on grades rather than personal achievement (imagine the difference between a class of middle schoolers who were forced to choose a foreign language vs. adult learners who self-selected!) People have used these exact methods, or even "cruder" methods, to successfully learn a language. It all comes down to what works best for you. I specifically recommend textbooks for learning grammar and the plentiful number of dialogues and written passages that can function great as graded readers and listening resources. (Also the distinction made between "a youtube lesson on a grammatical principle" which is totally cool, and "a passage in a grammar textbook" is more one of tone and audio/written than efficacy).
Classrooms can be really great for speaking practice since they can be a lot less intimidating speaking to someone who is also learning while receiving corrections. Speech can be awkward to train on your own (not impossible if you're good at just talking aloud to yourself!), and classrooms can work nicely for this. Homework and class schedules also have built in accountability!
Fix: Explore resources available to you and try to think holistically about your approach. CI+Traditional Methods is my go to "Learning Cocktail"
Mistake 4: Yes, Immersion, But...
I realized this relatively quickly while learning Chinese, but immersion at a level much higher than your current level will do very little for you. What is sometimes left out of those "Just watch anime to learn Japanese" discussions is that you first need to have a chance at understanding what is being said. Choosing materials that are much higher than your level will not teach you the language. It doesn't matter how many times someone at HSK 1 hears âäťćŻçé˛äšć ďźćĺšść ć¤ć°´ĺŻčżâ, they will not get very far. Actual deduction and learning comes from having enough familiar components to be able to make deductionsâsomething different than guessing. An HSK 1 learner, never having heard the word čč will be able to understand "tiger" if someone says âčżćŻćçččâ while standing next to a tiger. This is not to say you can never try something more difficultâthings should be challengingâbut if you can't make heads or tails of what's being said, then it's time to find something a bit easier. If mistake 2 is about the type of method, this is about the level. If you wouldn't give a kindergartener The Great Gatsby to learn how to read, why would you watch Full Metal Alchemist to start learning a language?
Side note: Interesting video here on the Comprehensible Input hypothesis and how it relates to neurodivergence.
Fix: Immerse yourself in appropriate content for your level. It's called comprehensible input for a reason.
Mistake 5: On Translation
I work as a translator, so do you really think I'm going to say translation is all bad? Of course not. It's a separate skill that can be added on to the basic skills, but is really only required if you are A. someone who is an intermediary between two languages (say you have to translate for a spouse or family member) or B. It is your job/hobby. In the context of sitting down and learning, it can be harmful. I think my brain often goes to translation too often because that's how I used to learn. Trying to unlearn that is difficult because, well, what do people even mean when they say "don't translate"? They mean when someone says "thank you", you should not go to your primary language and translate "you're welcome" from that. You should train yourself to go to your target language first when you hear the word for "thank you". A very literally translated "thank you" in Chinese "č°˘č°˘ä˝ " can come off as cold and sarcastic. I don't tell my friends that, I say "č°˘ĺŚď˝". Direct translation can take away the difference in culture, grammar, and politeness in a language. If there is a reason you sound awkward while writing and speaking, it's probably because you're imposing your primary language on your target language.
Fix: Try as hard as you can to not work from your primary language into the target language, but to work from the structures, set phrases, and grammar within the target language that you know first.
Mistake 6: The Secret Language Learners Don't Want You To Know...
...is that there is no one easy method. You are not going to learn French while you sleep, or master Korean by doing this one easy trick. Learning a language requires work and dedication, the people that succeed are those that push through the boredom of repetition and failure. The "I learned X in 1 year/month/week/day!" crowd is hiding large asterisks, be it their actual level, the assistance and free time available to them, "well actually I had already studied this for 4 years", or just straight-up lying. Our own journeys in our native tongue were not easy, they required years and years of constant immersion and instruction. While we are now older and wiser people that can make quick connections, we are also burdened with things like "jobs", "house work", "school work", and the digital black hole that is "social media" that take up our time and energy. Everything above is to help make this journey a little bit easier, quicker, and painless, but it will never be magic.
I find that language learning has a lot in common with the fitness community. People will talk about the workout that changed their life and how no other one will do the sameâand it really can be the truth that it changed their life and that they feel it is the ultimate way. The real workout that will change your life is the one you're most consistent with, that you enjoy the most. Language learning is just trying to find the brain exercise that you can be the most consistent with.
Fix: Save your energy looking for shortcuts, and do the work, fail, and come back for more. If someone tells you that you can become fluent in a ridiculously short amount of time, they are selling you a fantasy (and likely a product). You get out what you put in.
For those that made it to the end, here are some of my "universal resources":
Refold Method: I don't agree with their actual method 100%, but they've collected a lot of great resources for learning languages. I've found their Chinese and Korean discords to also be really helpful and provided even more resources than what's given in their starter guides.
Language Reactor: Very useful, and have recently added podcasts as a material! The free version is honestly all you need.
Anki: If I do not mention it, the people with 4+ year streaks with a 5K word deck will not let me forget it. It can be used on desktop or on your phone as an app. If you need a replacement for a language learning app, this is one of them. Justin Sung has a lot of great info on how to best utilize Anki (as does Refold). It's not my favorite, but it could be yours!
LingQ: "But I thought you said language apps are bad!" In isolation, yes. Sorry for the clickbait. This one is pretty good, and more interested in immersing you in the language than selling a subscription to allow you to freeze your streak so the number goes up.
Grammar Textbooks: For self-taught learning, these are going to be the best resource since it's focused on the hardest part of the language, and only that. If you're tired of seeing group work activities, look for a textbook that is just on grammar (Modern Mandarin Chinese Grammar is my rec for Chinese, and A Guide to Japanese Grammar by Tae Kim is the most common/enthusiastic rec I've heard for Japanese).
Shadowing: Simply repeat what you hear. Matt vs Japan talks about his setup here for optimized shadowing (which you can probably build for a lot cheaper now), but it can also just be you watching a video and pausing to repeat after each sentence or near simultaneously if you're able.
Youtube: Be it "Short Story for Beginners", "How to use X", "250 Essential Phrases", or a GRWM in your target language, Youtube is the best. Sometimes you have to dig to find what works for you, but I imagine there is something for everyone at every level. (Pro tip: People upload textbook audio dialogues often, you don't even have to buy the textbook to be able to learn from it!)
A Friend: Be it a fellow learner, or someone who has already mastered the language, it is easier when you have someone, not only to speak to, but to remind you why you're doing this. I write far more in Chinese because I have friends I can text in Chinese.
Pen and Paper: Study after study, writing on paper continues to be the best method for memorization. Typing or using a pen and tablet still can't compare to traditional methods.
The Replies (Probably): Lots of people were happy to give alternatives for specific languages in the replies of my DL post. The community here is pretty active, so if this post blows up at least 20% of what the last one did, you might be able to find some great stuff in the replies and reblogs.
I wish you all the best~

this is not a drill, this is a thread on the creation of Flemeth from David Gaider!! as kind of the self professed Flemeth stan blog around here, I had to reshare
(alt text and full text transcript of the images included)
Link to the original post
Full text from the images below the cut:
CHARACTERS - DAY THREE: Flemeth
I have a type.
Not as hard a cut as the Qunari, though.
Going into DA2, I wanted both Morrigan and Flemeth, but we could only have one.
All I recall is that Cab came into my office one day and asked if Kate might be a good fit
It was going to be *tight*.
I was a mess.
I... I was floored. đŤ
Then we began recording.
"I read the comments as we go."
"How could you? We're going so fast!"
"I'm a speed reader."
Oh. OK, then. That certainly explained it. đ
We got to the confrontation scene with Morrigan and she nailed it.
I still don't know why it was so easy to slip into her voice, but I'm grateful I got the chance. â¤ď¸

Fanfiction Author Interview Game
Thank you for the tag, @kotaka-kun! I'm trying to get back into writing and am forcing myself to get in a better fic-writer mindset.
How many works do you have on AO3?
14 (but more on FFN, from the olden times)
What's your total AO3 word count?
209.294 (442,145 on FFN)
Your top 5 stories by kudos/likes:
Unsung
Out of the Woods
Old Haunts
Turnabout
Restoration
(If we're considering legacy FFN stuff, By Starlight would fall just after Unsung, and The Ivory Tower would probably be on the list, but since it's forever unfinished I like to pretend it doesn't exist.)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Usually! Although they sometimes fall through the cracks. I am really, really appreciative of comments and try to respond earnestly, but I feel like my replies start to sound like a broken record and it's awkward.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
IIIII don't know. Maybe Burn? I almost always turn angst into a happy ending by the end of the story. It's self-preservation.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
See previous answerâcan't pick one!
Do you write crossovers?
I have not attempted to yet!
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I've received several passive-aggressive comments and seen some not-nice things said about my work elsewhere, but I'm not sure I've gotten any straight-up hate comments, thankfully.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do; it's usually a part of a story and not the sole reason for it (though I have done that, too).
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of...
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, Unsung and maybe something else (?) (it's been a while) has been translated into Chinese.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I think I would drive a co-author insane.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Uhhhh I can't pick, actually...I'll come back to this later (I won't)
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Red Death Riding JUST KIDDING but it does feel like that sometimes. Still, we persevere.
What are your writing strengths?
Ughghgh I don't know. Iâve been told I'm good at pacing, and that balance between like inner thoughts and external goings-on. (There is a better way to say that, but I'm tired.) Um...I think I'm pretty good at sentence flow? And...punctuating correctly? I sure hope I'm decent at character development. And I like to think I bring original ideas to the table.
What are your writing weaknesses?
The ideation of it all (though this hasn't always been the caseâit's a work in progress), and honestly just getting words on the page. It's so hard to turn off the editor brain I use for work, and I feel like I'm always editing myself before, during, and after every sentence. I also wish I could delve deeper into the thoughts and reactions of characters who aren't like me.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Not a huge fan. It can be OK if done well, but it often takes me out of the narrative.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
I have enough trouble focusing on my current fic/fandom as it is! Don't make me think about other things!
What's your favorite fic you've written?
I honestly donât have one. I see each fic as a stepping stone in the course of my writing journeyâa challenge that I issued to myself and completedâand I'm usually looking forward to the next challenge instead of back.
I haven't been around much lately and don't know who all has done this! I'll try tagging @musicalhell @les-gnossiennes-fantomatiques @emotionalmotionsicknessxx and @rienerose (but please feel free to ignore!).

DPxDC Prompt where when Jason is resurrected, he does not become fully conscious. He lays in his coffin, at rest while his body slowly absorbs the ambient ectoplasm of Gotham and tries to fix the improper formation of his core.
The rest is not altogether peaceful. He often has nightmares, and has no way of escaping them. The ambient ectoplasm in Gotham is sustaining Jason, but what repairs the ectoplasm is managing are agonizingly slow.
-
Danny has been living in Gotham for awhile, having moved there with Jazz as soon as she turned 18. Gotham has its own host of ghosts, but Danny feels at ease without the constant strain of ghost fights.
That is, until he feels something amiss in the Gotham cemetery.
The cemetery feels wrong, in a way Danny can't place. It reminds him of Amity, how restless it is-- only different. Wrong. He keeps visiting the cemetery, trying to find the source of that feeling. The entire graveyard is saturated with it, and all Danny can do is sit in the graveyard and talk into the quiet. He lets emotions flood from his core, trying to exude an air of calm that might settle whatever restless spirit haunts the grounds.
It works, at least. The sense of restless agitation eases when Danny flares his core, settling into a quiet comfort.
It becomes stronger, too. Danny can feel it coming from a newer section of the graveyard, and he curiously wonders why he's drawn more and more to a single line of headstones.
Wonders why the one on the end seems to stand out, the name Jason Peter Todd burning itself into his dreams.
Wonders why he feels a kinship with this boy's grave, when he can't even see a ghost attached to it or feel any resonance of a core. Nothing stronger than the blob ghosts that haunt the grounds, at least.
Only ever those strange emotions and that restless energy that quiets with the sooth of his own core.
Yet one day when Danny visits the graveyard and flares his core, he's startled when another one answers his.
-
[I originally posted this prompt in the Batpham server and it ended here, but several of us expanded on it and what Iâm posting after this are the additions I added in that discussion, some of it edited.] Jason never actually digs out of his grave. When he finally awakens and tries to dig at the coffin he actually slips through it into the soil above. A hand thrusts its way through the soil and pulls him the rest of the way up
Danny is the only one present when Jason comes out of his grave-- when he pulls him free, a ghostly inversion of Robin who he knows to be a halfa. In his confused state, however, Jason does not linger in the cemetery. He runs off, and even though Danny's half ghost and can get around fast, Jason is now too and knows the city well enough that he manages to slip away. He's terrified, confused beyond reason, and hiding.
Jason hangs about the city, and at times he goes up on his favorite gargoyle to think-- and that's the first time Babs sees him. She thinks it's just a mistake-- her own imagination-- because as soon as she looks again, he's gone.
But it keeps happening. Dick swears he sees Jason near the manor grounds when he goes to visit. Alfred swears he sees him in the rear view mirror of the car one day. Tim swears he sees him while heading home one night. Bruce sees him on patrol, long enough for the two to lock eyes, but before Bruce can even open his mouth he's gone. And Danny isn't helping, because he's Looking for Jason still, trying to help, and this suspicious kid keeps turning up in the weirdest places and at a glance he looks like Jason too.
And it fucks with Bruce's head so badly. He can't say anything about it for days, and when he shakily admits it to Alfred the butler tells him he saw the same thing-- and when the others also share this, all of it lining up too perfectly, that's when Bruce approaches the grave and finds it empty.
During this, Jason naturally grows more bold after his initial shock and confusion dies down. He's a bold and smart kid, even if he's confused and afraid. He's just trying to investigate and see how Gotham (and his family) are doing and figure out how he can approach Bruce. He sees Tim and canât help but feel forgotten and replaced, but without the rage from the pit he's trying to be a bit more level-headed and think things through.
Jason is also learning more about his new physiology, which keeps him distracted and his mind busy. Trying to figure out himself as much as those around him. But some things still haunt him and cannot be so easily ignored.
An encounter with the Joker sets Jason off.
Jason sees the Joker and that rage and hurt builds inside of him and he manages something similar to a wail. It's the most broken sound Danny's ever heard. It's nothing like his wail, it's more like choking and static and more a feeling in the chest than a sound. Jason died from inhaling smoke and didn't have any dying screams. Itâs a shattered, raw wall of reverberating emotion that has no justice.
And Danny goes to it-- stumbling, because it's raw enough to punch at his core-- and he just finds the kid he's been looking for knelt on the ground, keening and sobbing his heart out. Danny goes to comfort him, tentatively wrapping an arm around him while they're surrounded by Wreckage (and a clown-shaped dead body).
And when the bats get there they finally get a good look at the specter they've been seeing all around Gotham, and it's absolutely Jason-- with another boy beside him... And the Joker's body, twisted and bloody. But when Bruce gets close, Jason startles, visibly terrified and hurt, and Danny hides them both from view and whisks Jason away to hide him.
Bruce let the Joker live-- and now Jason has killed the man and that horrified expression he caught on Bruce's face won't leave his head. He feels like a monster, destroyed with grief and hurt, and doesn't know what to do.
Danny takes Jason home, and heâs just a fucking Mess. When they get to the apartment Jazz is just about to leave. She was sleeping but the reverberating âwailâ woke her and sheâs been in a mad dash to grab all of their weapons to storm out and see what the hell has happened.
But right before she can leave, Danny appears with Jason in tow and all of Jazz's questions die on her tongue when she catches sight of the kid. Danny's told her a lot about Jason since he first met him-- and about the cemetery even before then-- and she's been trying to give advice and help out in whatever was she can from a distance. And now, seeing this kid actually here and just the sheer wreck that he is, she can't help but feel fiercely protective of him. She doesn't even know what happened down in the streets, just that Jason's in distress and needs help.
No questions asked, she helps Danny sit him down on the couch, wrap a blanket around him, and make some hot chocolate to try and get him to relax. She certainly has plenty of questions she Wants to ask, but that's not what's important right now. Right now she just has two severely shaken boys that need a safe place and time to calm down.
And even once she knows what happened, Jazz is nothing but supportive. Hell, she's happy to see the Joker is gone, but she doesn't focus on that because it's also not what's important. Instead she just does what she can to make a comfortable space and lets Jason know she's there to listen if he needs to talk.
And at first Jason is hesitant around Jazz-- and alarmed at first that Danny brought him to someone he doesn't know-- but Jazz is so patient and understanding. Jason can't help but relax around her. In a way it hurts, because it reminds him of his own family, but he'd rather have this than nothing, not knowing what reception he'd get back at the manor.
Danny's terrified Batman will want to hunt them both down. He knows this kid used to be Robin, but Jason's own reactions to Batman aren't making Danny feel more secure. If anything, he has a bone to pick with Batman himself now.
And Bruce is just left to reflect on what's happened, knowing that something of his son is still lingering. And he can't stop thinking of that Feeling the wail Jason made left in his chest. He keeps going back to his empty grave, hoping he might find him there. Hoping he might get to apologize to more than just the flowers.
Danny finds Bruce at the grave-- as Bruce, not Batman-- and he puts it together. He thinks he already knew it too, since while he refused to look up Jason Todd's name, it's Too Familiar.
Danny confronting Bruce angrily, expecting the man to rise to his challenge, but all he's met with is just a grieving father who desperately wants to see his son again.
And Bruce recognizes this kid and knows Danny knows where Jason is, but instead of demanding to know where he is he just asks if his son is okay. Because after feeling that wail and seeing what he saw that day, Bruce knows Jason must resent him. He doesn't even know what Jason is anymore, but he knows he's still the kid he loved and he's hurt and Bruce doesn't think he can fix that. He just wants to know if he's okay, and for Danny to tell him that he's sorry. That if Jason ever want to come home, the door will always be open.
Jason is terrified too cause he truly wanted to kill the Joker, but he didn't expect to If he was going to kill him, it would be in a way he could feel with his hands. But the way he did it was in an uncontrollable show of power that he's not sure he could have stopped.
And Danny keeps trying to reassure him that he not only will get a better hold on his powers, but that he's not a monster. That what happened wouldn't repeat itself because the only reason it happened in the first place was because that was the man who Killed Jason and ghosts are emotional beings. Itâs still a struggle.
Unfortunately, the Fentons make their way to Gotham. News of what is clearly a ghost killing a person-- villain or not-- is big enough to reach them in Amity. Jazz and Danny were only in Gotham because the parents couldnât stomach their son being Phantom-- assumed Phantom was overshadowing Danny and turned a moment of trust into one of betrayal. The siblings were trying to lay low, but... well it was Phantom that was seen with the other ghost.
The Fenton parents come to the town with an entire Arsenal and approach the Batman, going on and on about ghosts, how dangerous they are, and in particular how dangerous These ghosts are. They lament about the Death of their own son, and the entire time Bruce is just-- shocked. He wasn't even sure what Jason was, and while the word ghost does seem to fit it still feels like his heart breaking all over again.
And he can't forget how broken Jason seemed, and how protective this Phantom was of his son. He doesn't believe the Fentons, but he does Fear them. He fears what they might do, and that's when he learns about the GIW and that these people are acting Lawfully in telling him, to his face, that they want to hunt down his son.

#i found out jstor is still doing the 100 free articles a month thing a little while ago and so i've been reading a lot more lately#and i'm reading this article about asian american women and feminism rn#and it is absolutely blowing my mind#this idea that you have to choose between your ethnic identity and your gender identity#feminist movements were so white that woc didn't feel comfortable joining and picking their gender identity#but also. the fear of causing separation between men and women and diluting resources to address racism#like. there is so much to unpack there lol it is all tied to race it cannot be separated#white women don't have to worry about the race part#they are privileged enough to put all their energy into speaking up about sexism and misogyny#and in the process they often harm men of color which further keeps woc away from their movement#i honestly think this is why things feel like they've gone backward#if the movement is not intersectional it will die#and we keep seeing it like all those polls showing that white women keep voting red#voting against things that would help them bc preserving white supremacy is the most important#we create change by being intersectional by recognizing that oppression does not exist in a vacuum#but that involves people taking a step back and setting down their defenses and listening which i don't think a lot of people want to do lol#okay i'm done now i just needed to dump these thoughts somewhere

happy 1 year anniversary to the election results that were so fucked they had me trying to take my mind off of things by watching what seemed like a toxic chinese queerbait show only to find something far more thoughtful and genuinely queer and interesting than expected and end up watching a bunch more unrelated things that are talked about in vaguely the same realms of the internet and then watch bad buddy twice in a row and fall into an endless bingewatch of thai media (some of which is mediocre, some of which is bad, much of which is simply pretty good, and some of which is genuinely incredible) and go, well, it would be a waste of all this language input i'm accidentally giving myself right now if i didn't at least learn a few words. thus accidentally locking myself into watching even more thai media because now i gain serotonin from hearing a sentence i know i could write
#this is about the dutch general elections of 2023. i know another election is probably still on most people's minds#it feels WILD that it's only been a year. and at the same time. the government they eventually formed based on those votes#is still hanging in there. and it feels like THAT's been going on for way longer than a year#*#ah well in happier news! i think it's the way part of me is forever roaming the internet in 2011#but even when a BL (or GL! which is finally picking up!) series is bad. or just boring.#there is something in me that can't help but go !! oh my god? there's a hundred of these out there??#and we can argue definitions and representation and fetishization. but there are So Many queer people working on them these days#and not all but many of these stories are insightful and kind and clever and have a very queer beating heart inside of them#(and there's also something to be said for queer trash tv. that has a place! but i won't get into it)#and this is really truly only a thing of the past few years!!! this did not exist when i was a teen!!!#i'm still so young but i'm EASILY old enough to remember that. and now All Of That is just out there. often on youtube for free#if you are a teen TODAY you don't need to pick between settling for watching tara die on btvs. watching ianto die on torchwood#or watching queer as folk. which is not a knock on qaf but it's not necessarily tv for teens#instead there's like. dozens of queer people on modern western tv! there are ever more queer movies where nobody dies!#and there's just a goddamn fucking impossible-to-watch-in-one-lifetime amount of guaranteed happy end BL series out there#and it's insane!!! that is insane to me!!!#and is also maybe a good thing to remember in current times. things can and do change for the better#sometimes in ways you might not expect. sometimes you might not even know it's happening. but it does

Things I wish I had read in "beginner" sewing tutorials/people had told me before I started getting into sewing
You have to hem *everything* eventually. Hemming isn't optional. (If you don't hem your cloth, it will start to fray. There are exceptions to this, like felt, but most cloth will.)
The type of cloth you choose for your project matters very much. Your clothing won't "fall right" if it's not the kind of stretchy/heavy/stiff as the one the tutorial assumes you will use.
Some types of cloth are very chill about fraying, some are very much not. Linen doesn't really give a fuck as long as you don't, like, throw it into the washing machine unhemmed (see below), whereas brocade yearns for entropy so, so much.
On that note: if you get new cloth: 1. hem its borders (or use a ripple stitch) 2. throw it in the washing machine on the setting that you plan to wash it going forward 3. iron it. You'll regret it, if you don't do it. If you don't hem, it'll thread. If you don't wash beforehand, the finished piece might warp in the first wash. If you don't iron it, it won't be nice and flat and all of your measuring and sewing will be off.
Sewing's first virtue is diligence, followed closely by patience. Measure three times before cutting. Check the symmetry every once in a while. If you can't concentrate anymore, stop. Yes, even if you're almost done.
The order in which you sew your garment's parts matters very much. Stick to the plan, but think ahead.
You'll probably be fine if you sew something on wrong - you can undo it with a seam ripper (get a seam ripper, they're cheap!)
You can use chalk to draw and write on the cloth.
Pick something made out of rectangles for your first project.
I recommend making something out of linen as a beginner project. It's nearly indestructible, barely threads and folds very neatly.
Collars are going to suck.
The sewing machine can't hurt you (probably). There is a guard for a reason and while the needle is very scary at first, if you do it right, your hands will be away from it at least 5 cm at any given time. Also the spoils of learning machine sewing are not to be underestimated. You will be SO fast.
I believe that's all - feel free to add unto it.

BOOK REVIEW đ
This is the one for February â I was reminded of this book half way through the month and decided to reread it again because I couldn't remember how it ended; plus a short mystery is always nice to read (side note: this ended up as an ebook read bc I couldn't remember where in my storage boxes I have my copy â it's in storage because it's a paperback edition and old and I don't want it to die on me yet lol)
#ben picks up reading again#dania rambles about shit#hewehewhehehewhehw I've forgotten to upload these for the last two months LMAO#not to worry I am at least still reading :D#alrighty this is for the most part spoiler free (execpt where indicated)#it is a very entertaining mystery that feels like a game of cluedo and you really enjoy how everything comes together at different points#so much that it has you going back to see how the hell you missed a detail and going AHA#but yeah counts as a reread but it was so long ago and I'd forgotten practically everything about it that its like a new read#which is a bonus bc I like figuring out mysteries in books and going along with stuff to see if I'm right at the end#not to much analysis in this review like the last book as I feel it didn't need it#each character is pretty likeable with some unlikable moments sprinkled in#also I really love how the POV switches and flows easily between each of them which is what makes this book so easy to follow along with#insight on when i first read it#i was in fifth grade and we had a reading club sort of thing that our teacher picked us for#like a greatbooks fishbowl sort of thing instead of just our regular reading/comm arts time in class#i think it was the last one's we read for that year because I don't remember any after it#anyway we had to staple the last couple of chapters together so we wouldn't be able to know the ending nor the stuff leading up to it#that way we could play along and try to solve it ourselves#we had a betting pool sort of thing going with candy to see who could guess correctly#just a box full of sticky notes with whatever theories we wanted to include with the bet#and a whole wall with those large paper pad sheets that teacher's would have for their easels in order for us to connect the dots on things#yeah we went into it#kind of wondering if we ever got to the end or if something came up that we couldn't finish the book like i sort of remember#our tutor missing a couple of weeks and then state testing and then it was just the end of the year and we were turning in the books to her#anyway just more admin lore

We NEED more soft!Rafe after the new season. He moved out and got a whole house to himself maybe he could ask his girl to move in? Becasue he wants her there and to be part of his life...his new life where he's a better person
Request: SOFT RAFE PLSSS
I don't know when I found time to write this, but enjoy soft!Rafe asking his girlfriend to move in with him! Feel free to send more requests, I'll write when I find time
Warnings: soft!Rafe, relationship moving quickly, mention of Ward's death
â
ââRafe, I truly canât see. Iâm not cheating,'â you promised as you walked with Rafeâs hands over your eyes. Â
He had picked you up in late afternoon and refused to tell you where you were going. Just that he wanted to show you something...and that you had to close your eyes during the whole drive.Â
Rafe laughed a bit, trusting you. ''Okay, okay.''Â
You walked a few more steps, then he stopped and removed his hands from your eyes, revealing a large two story house.Â
A frown formed between your eyebrows. ââWho's house is this?''
He wrapped his arms around you from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder. ââMine,'' he whispered in your ear, giving you a gentle kiss on your jawline. ââAs of this morning.''Â
Surprise filled your face. ââYou bought a house?ââÂ
Every time Rafe showed up to your place after a fight with his family â most often his father â, needing a bed to crash in for a few days, you tried talking to him about getting his own place. It would solve a lot of conflicts. But Rafe always said he wasnât ready to leave the family nest.Â
Behind you, Rafe hummed. ââI bought it with a part of my dadâs inheritance money. Sharing a house with Rose is not possible anymore. Too much has happened...ââÂ
You covered his hands with yours in silent support. Youâd heard the ugly stories about Rose and Rafe. He hadnât always made the best decisions in the past, but Rose constantly blamed him for everything bad that happened to the family. Rafe may have deep personal issues, but it was wrong of her to villainize him.
ââDo you want a tour?ââ he asked, his voice brimming with excitement, and the eagerness in his eyes made it impossible for you to refuse.
You followed Rafe up the steps to the porch of his new home. He fumbled briefly with the key before pushing the door open, but just as you were about to enter, he pulled you to a sudden stop.
âWait,â he ordered, his strong arms wrapping around you as he effortlessly lifted you up.
You squeaked, startled by the sudden move. ââRafe, we're not married, you know,ââ you said with a soft laugh, looping an arm behind his neck. ââYou don't have to carry me over the threshold."
He set you down gently on the wooden floor of the entrance hall and shut the door behind him.Â
Inside, the house felt big and empty, its openness accentuated by the sunlight streaming through the uncovered windows.
ââI donât know why, but I expected it to be fully furnished,ââ you admitted, glancing towards what you assumed was the living room.Â
Rafe chuckled, his fingers lacing with yours as he guided you further in. ââSome people do buy them furnished, but this one wasnât. Youâll have to help me pick out furniture because I suck at decorating.ââÂ
The kitchen was massive and even had two ovens â a rich people thing. It was unfortunate Rafe didnât cook. The backyard had a large patio where Rafe mentioned wanting to set a barbecue and a firepit, and maybe one of those large daybeds. He wanted his house to be cozy and feel like a home, not look straight out of a fucking magazine.
As he led you into the last room upstairs, the master bedroom, Rafe's voice grew soft. The words were burning on his tongue, but he didnât know how to say them.Â
ââAnd here's our bedroom. I mean, the bedroom.ââ He made a mistake on purpose, just to see your reaction.Â
You tried to hide the smile that spread across your lips, your heart beating fast in your chest. The slip of his tongue hadn't gone by unnoticed. Did he truly mean for you to live here with him? Was this why he took you to the house and insisted on making it a surprise?Â
ââThereâs a big bathtub in the master bedroom, andâââ Rafe continued, moving toward the bathroom to show you the bathtub, but you were not listening.Â
Moving in with someone is a huge step in a relationship, not something you can decide on a whim. You and Rafe had only been together for a few months, so it felt a bit early to take that step. But then again, everything in your relationship had moved quickly from the start. He met your parents two weeks after your first kiss, and said âI love youâ after twenty-six days of dating â yes, you had counted them.Â
When Rafe glanced back at you, he noticed you seemed deep in thought. ââIs everything okay?ââ he asked, an eyebrow raised in concern.Â
You snapped out of your thoughts, shaking your head. ââYeah, everythingâs good,ââ you replied, smiling at him. ââI was just thinking of all the time itâll take us to christen our house.ââ A mischievous grin curled on your lips as you walked toward him. ââMaybe we should start now. Itâs a big house.ââÂ
Rafeâs eyes flickered with surprise as he heard what you were implying. He expected you to refuse, to say it was too soon.Â
ââYouâll move in with me?ââ he asked, a hint of disbelief in his voice.Â
You nodded, and a smile curled on Rafe's face. He's never been happier.

on set - nicholas chavez
summary: you came to bring nicholas food on set and he looks too good you gotta help him get off or maybe you're just doing it for yourself.
warning: oral (m receiving), almost caught ig.
a/n: i need this man bad đŠ
--
i park my car and get the takeout my boyfriend asked me to get for him while he was on set.
i knocked on his trailer a few times then being met with him, Nicholas i can't lie he looked undeniably good.
a part of me feels bad because he's getting put into character for this role and i liked it. every bit of it.
the way his hair is styled, paired with the old money clothing. he was perfect. "you good?" not sure how long he was trying to get my attention but i just nod and walk into the trailer.
"you gonna be free tonight" i ask. Nicholas sits back down in the chair. "uh i don't think so" he checked the message he was given earlier this morning before coming to work
"yeah, no i won't be free why?" he asks giving me the perfect opportunity to perhaps get a quickie in before he has to actually get on screen again.
i walk up behind him, giving his shoulders a little massage then kissing his neck "I'd really liked if we could do something later" i try hinting to him that i wanted to fuck and im sure he caught on rather slowly than expected but he still did nonetheless.
"at work? what a needy girl" he coaxed. he took my hand in his and brung me infront of him.
nicholas manspreads his legs a bit so i can stand in between them "how bout you get that pretty little mouth to work then"
his cocky tone and the light pat on the side of my thigh; a signal for me to get on my knees sent my need for him through the roof.
i sunk to my knees not breaking eye contact. "this is what you wanted right?" he asked me with a smirk.
i give him a nod. but that wasn't enough for him he brings his thumb to my mouth dragging it across my lips "use your words baby" he cooed
"yeah- yes.. i want to do this." i fumble with his belt buckle, his eyes burning into my skull making me feel intimidated by his gaze.
i get the belt undone and pull his pants down, he lifts his hips a bit to help. "doin' so good already but-" he picks his phone up checking the time "-they're gonna need me in atleast 7 minutes" he places the phone back down.
his hard cock is freed from the confinement of his boxers. i put the head of his cock at my lips, kitty licking the tip before putting my mouth around him.
a low grunt is heard from him encouraging me to sink my mouth down further.
he grabs a handful of my hair and carelessly pushing my head down, i gag on his dick and im quick to remove my mouth off him "stoopp" i whine
"alright im sorry" he takes his hands away from my hair and puts them up surrendering.
a knock on the trailer door followed by a girl telling Nicholas he's needed on set. "5 more minutes!" he yells loud enough for the lady to hear from outside.
nicholas turns back to me and raises his eyebrows "see we don't have much time" he shrugs.
i wrap my mouth around him for the second time, already use to the length reaching the back of my throat.
he allows me to do whatever i please with my mouth; watching me take his length. i swallow around him and nearly choke when he accidentally jerks forward and thrusting down the back of my throat.
"shit.." nicholas drawls out throwing his head back at the feeling.
i change my pace, bobbing my head faster and using my hand to pump whatever i couldn't fit in my mouth. he whimpers softly, i looked up at him, his lips caught between his teeth, cheeks flushed and eyebrows knitted together while his eyes were screwed shut. perfect like i said before
"you're such a good girl f'me y'know that?" i hum in reaponse, the vibration around his cock made him moan loudly.
"sir are you ok?" the lady asked from outside; rattling the doorknob. "fine- just fine!" ,,give me one more minute please"
i swirl my tounge around his tip then using my hand to stroke him till he reaches his orgasm "m' close" he whimpers.
i put my mouth on the head of his cock and let him paint the back of my throat.
i wipe the sides of my mouth and rise from my knees while Nicholas pulls his underwear and pants back up. "lets finish up whenever i get home yeah?" he kisses my head and walks out the trailer.

đĽust a betďšhyung line
đnhypen x fem!reader ď¸ď¸âšď¸ cw: angst, no fluff (yet), reader is mostly viewed as a loser and nerd, lowercase intended, kinda went overboard with hoon's, reader gets called a bitch once, not proofread!
sypnosisďšafter a few months of dating, you find out you were just a bet.
part two !
â
LEE HEESEUNG (wc 0.3k)
you and lee heeseung has been dating for a total of five months, and throughout those months you can confidently say that you were the happiest. he was the perfect boyfriend, his family loved you and so did yours.
today, heeseung promised he would take you on a date after his basketball practice despite your protests on how he should be resting instead. you wouldn't have agreed if it weren't for the fact that he had shot you with his pleading big doe eyes that never fails to make you agree on whatever he asks for.Â
so here you were, making your way towards the gymnasium with your bag hanging on your left shoulder. the lack of dribbling and smacking basketball noise from behind the closed doors told you that their practice was done.
entering quietly out of habit, you were about to approach your boyfriend when you overheard his teammates talking to him.
"don't tell me you're still with her?" asked one of boys, an amused smile on his face. heeseung only raised a brow.
"what? you won the bet, you can dump her now. you're ruining our image you know? plus she's a total nerd and loser, you're much better with someone like yunhee." and with only just a few words, you felt your world crashing down.
right, who would date someone like you? you always found it weird, that heeseung just approached you one day in your biology class with the cheekiest smile on his face. the fact that he wouldn't leave you alone until you've agreed to go on a date with him. it all made sense now, why the popular basketball captain suddenly gained interest on the school's "biggest nerd."
"speaking of.." another guy spoke, nodding towards you with a cheeky smile. heeseung turned around only to be met with your glassy eyes.
you didn't move, wanting to hear him defend you. wanting to tell his teammates that you weren't a bet and he actually liked you throughout the months you two have been dating.
his silence said everything and with that you turned away and ran out of the gym.
"shit." he muttered, running after you.
â
PARK JONGSEONG (wc 0.3k)
"i'll pick you up later, okay?" your boyfriend of almost a year said softly through the phone. you've been dating jay since the first week of your first year in uni, others found your relationship weird. maybe because back in high school, jay never and refused to even spare you a glance. he was an asshole who looked at you as if you were the epitome of disgusting.
but the past is in the past now, right?
"okay baby, see you." you reply and put your phone down on your table, knowing that he's usually the one who ends the call.
you go back to the papers scattered on your table. the silence in your room was disturbed by sudden noises in your phone, turning to look, you see that jay hasn't ended the call.
picking your phone up with a smile, you were about to call out for him but a voice stopped you.
"i can't believe you've gone this far dude." you recognized the slightly muffled voice, it was a friend of jongseong's.
"what do you mean?" your boyfriend grumbled. the audio was muffled, you figured he was moving and the phone was in his pocket.
"you're still dating her!" the voice exclaimed, as if amused. "seriously, i didn't think you'd take that bet seriously. fine you win, i'll clean your car for a month. but you've gotta cut it out, you're starting to disgust me." the boy laughed.
before you could hear what your boyfriend would say, you ended the call. your hand was trembling and tears were falling from your eyes unconsciously.
were all those months just a joke to him? were your feelings really worth a free car wash for just a month? were you that unworthy?
jay was an asshole back in high school, you thought he changed. turns out he didn't, you felt like a fool for falling for his antics.
â
SIM JAEYUN (wc 0.3k)
if someone would be asked who you were, they'd all say the same thing. a loner, pathetic loser, and a nobody with a pretty face.
because what was a pretty face if you had no friends and a social life?
you almost believed you would die alone, you were too socially awkward to make friends. so when sim jaeyun, the transferee, approached you with a warm smile and a hand outstretched for a shake, you were beyond shocked.
your relationship went from being block mates, friends, then next thing you knew you two were dating. at first you were reluctant to enter a relationship, scared that it would ruin your friendship, but he insisted you both tried. that was three months ago.
you didn't have any friends, but atleast you had jake.
jake who smiles at you as if you had carved the stars in your hands. jake who would never forget to bring your coffee every morning. he was everything you ever needed. he was it for you, you only hoped he felt the same towards you.
walking through the hallway of the school, you stopped infront of your locker only to be met with a sticky note on it.
HOW LONG CAN JAKE LAST WITH LOSER L/N?
A WEEK : ĺ - ĺ - ĺ - ĺ - III
FIVE MONTHS : ĺ - I
A YEAR : II
Furrowing your brows, you stare at the note as your breathing grew heavy. It was obvious that the paper was old, it had folds and it was only stuck on your locker with a washi tape.
"what are you doing l/n? go on, cast your vote." a mocking voice said from beside you followed by a bunch of laughter. "personally, i thought he'd last a day. i guess i'll vote for five months then." then the hand went and tallied on the five months category.
"what's going on here?" upon hearing your boyfriend's voice, you fled away immediately, not wanting to face him. everytime something good happens in your life, it's always ripped away from you. jake was just like them, you were just a toy for their own entertainment.

PARK SUNGHOON (wc 0.5k)
"i'm sorry baby, i really am busy with practice tomorrow." your boyfriend, sunghoon, says in genuine sorry. it was the fifth time you have asked him to meet your parents, who also by the way was so desperate to meet the boy you've been dating for seven months now.
every time you ask him, he's always busy. either with practice, a project, a family matter, or whatever excuse he can come up with. but you always brush it off, knowing he means well and he really is busy as he's an athlete student.
"i'll meet them next week, okay? i promise." that's also the same thing he says everytime too, and once again, you only nod in response.
you and sunghoon met in a physics class. he was clutching his head with a frown on his face as he desperately tried to understand what the professor was going on about.
you remember clearly the way he approached you in the library, a physics book on his left hand as his right scratched his nape. "can.. i noticed- uh, can you help me with this topic?"
that was where your relationship started. you tutored him and helped him improve his grade. when he got an A on the finals, he kissed you on the lips in glee. he was taken aback by his own actions but nevertheless asked you out after.
"i love you," he whispers, pressing a kiss on your temple. "let me get something from my room." you hum in response as he takes his arm that was previously wrapped around you before going up to his room.
you can't help but notice the way his phone was blowing up from beside you.
you weren't the type to snoop around other people's phones, especially your boyfriend. it just felt wrong, you trusted him fully. but the way it kept ringing with text notifications, you just couldn't help it.
looking back to the stairs, you note he isn't back and there was still rummaging noises from his room.
taking his phone, you enter his passcode and read the messages from one of his group chats.
JONGSU
lol don't tell me she asked again.. em ba rrah sing
DAEHYUN
hahah when is she gonna take a hint?? đ
JOON
you gonna blame her? hoon's been at it for months lmao
DAEHYUN
i actually can't believe he went that far, wasn't it only supposed to be for a month? đż
JONGSU
a week actually, but ig that bitch y/n was so easy. yk hoon likes to get his ego fed đđ
putting the phone down, you exhaled in disbelief. you took your bag from the floor and threw it over your shoulder and went to the door of his apartment to put your shoes back on.
"baby?" sunghoon emerged from the stairs, looking at you curiously. "you're going already?" he asked, extending an arm towards you but you slapped it away. the tears on your eyes shocking him.
"hey, hey what's wrong?" he tried again but his hand was yet again slapped away.
"i don't want to see you ever again." was the last words you uttered to him (shakily) before leaving his apartment.

PAIRING: best friend!mingi x afab reader.

NOTES: had to do a lot of research for this one, so i figured nothing better to post as my first fic here! this is 100% self indulgent, as all fics should be, and i think i've re-read it so many times that if you find a typo or something that just doesn't make sense, you can blame it on english not being my first language i guess lmao. i hope you enjoy it and if you do feel free to send to my askbox/reblog/type in any feedback or thoughts! <3
POSTED: july 18th 2024.
masterlist. / part two.
âDelete her number right now!âÂ
âShe's such a bitch for saying that to youâŚâÂ
âAnd over text too? Wow.âÂ
âYeah, no, I didn't like her from the start.âÂ
Wooyoungâs living room comes to life once again that morning, voices echoing and insults flying out, all towards the girl Mingiâs seeing.Â
Was seeing. You're sure she's out of his usual rotation with the lovely shit show she just caused.Â
You stay silent, your eyes fixed on your best friend's expression, on his red cheeks and apologetic eyes because everyone told him that girl was bad news.Â
He should've listened to you when you told him you liked her friend better. She was a sweet girl, clearly had a thing for Mingi.Â
Unfortunately, Mingi has a type. And that type always ends up breaking his spirit one way or another.Â
But you stay silent, letting your friends have their little rants about how much of a bitch she is for hurting Mingi's ego like that, until he covers up his face with his hands and lets out a frustrated whine.Â
âThat's enough, everyone. I think he got it.â You smile a little and everyone turns to you, Yunhoâs chest heaving and everything but Seonghwa (who also kept his mouth shut all this time) interferes before anyone else has the chance to start again.
âYou know you shouldn't feel ashamed for that, right?â he asks Mingi, who slowly lowers his hands to his lap and looks at you for a brief second. You nod, confirming what Hwa says âNo one is born knowing everything and she shouldn't expect you to know how to make a girl squirt.âÂ
âJesus Christ,â Mingi whines again, closing his eyes âDon't say it like that.âÂ
âHow else should I say it?â Seonghwa is confused but he laughs a little bit and turns to you.Â
Being the only girl in the room, you think everyone it's expecting you to pick your friend up and join them in their insults but you can't (for Mingiâs sake). Instead, you let out a sigh âI mean, it's hard to even make it happen on your own without any help, Mingi. I don't know what the fuck she's on butâŚâ shrugging, you extend your arm to pat him in the shoulder two times âHwaâs right.âÂ
âSo you do know?âÂ
âWooââ Hongjoong reprimands right away and you turn to Wooyoung, confused.
âHuh?âÂ
âYou said that it's hard making it happen,â he explains, smiling because he just found a new target for the next few days âSo you must know.âÂ
Talking about sex with them was never difficult, it didn't make you uncomfortable whatsoever but you know what Woo is doing.Â
You look down at Mingi before answering though and his eyes are glued to the carpet, begging for the topic of his unfortunate encounter with that bitch to die on everyone's tongue.Â
So you take mercy on him.Â
âOh. I mean⌠Yeah.â You shrug once again, leaning back against the cushions on the couch while Wooyoung claps like he just heard the most hilarious joke ever.Â
âYou truly are amazing.âÂ
Rolling your eyes, you get up from your comfy seat âSure. But it took a lot of practice and the whole ordeal was frustrating for me, so, again, I don't know what the fuck she was on,â you say again, smiling down at Mingi before taking a few steps towards the door âIt's noon already, by the way.âÂ
âShit.â Woo gets up quickly from his spot on the floor and everyone else follows suit.Â
âAlright, everyone out! We have a midterm to cheat on.â San calls out and everyone takes it as their sign to actually leave (not just hang around the apartment) and continue with their days.Â
This reunion was a little impromptu, just because Wooyoung texted everyone begging to come over and hang out with him and San before their online philosophy midterm.Â
âAnd by that he means that you need to stay,â Wooyoung hugs Seonghwa hard, almost begging him with his eyes âWe didn't study⌠Don't look at me like that! Please?âÂ
âI'm not doing your fucking midterm for you!â
You chuckle, leaning on the door and waiting for your ride home to get his shoes on. When you look down at him again, Mingi mouths a thank you and you blow him a kiss.Â
When you get downstairs, you swear you still hear Wooyoung begging his senior to take the test for him.Â
Everyone is quiet in the car. You can tell they're tired from exams and life in general, so you don't press them with questions and just let the music play in the background while you look out the passenger window and, eventually, at Mingi.Â
His grip on the steering wheel lets you know he's a little more affected than he let on back there. But, again, you say nothing.Â
You know better than to pressure him into telling you his feelings.Â
Mingi and you have been friends forever. He lived a few houses down from yours, becoming your first friend when you moved to the city. You both were fourteen when it happened, so you've known him long enough to know what happens when he gets his heart broken.Â
Not that Mingi loved that girl or anything, but he never really took embarrassment well. He didn't when the first girl he liked rejected him in front of the whole ninth grade class and he didn't when his pants ripped in the middle of the stage while performing a routine with his dance team on senior year.Â
You stood by his side every single time and every single time he waited to sit down and let everything out, collect his feelings and talk to you through his frustrations. You really loved that about him, because he never said anything he regretted just because he was upset at the moment.Â
Maybe that's why you two have been friends for so long. Opposites attract, or whatever your mother told you one time.Â
In reality, you think it's because you two complement each other well.Â
He knows when to speak his mind and you're kind of impulsive, heart on your sleeve and sharp tongue ready to defend your and your loved ones honor if needed.Â
That's why it takes a lot of strength for you to not pull up that girl's number from his phone and give her a piece of your mind.Â
One by one, you drop your friends off in different parts of the city and when it's time to go into your own house, you circle the car and Mingi rolls his window down.
He reads the look you give him a little too well, so he opens his mouth to stop you but you shake your head.Â
âCall me, come over or just let me know if you need anything,â you start before he says anything âIf you need me to beat her up, I can do that too.âÂ
He huffs out a laugh âYou don't even know how to fight, love.â
You sigh at the nickname, he's been using it since the time you told him you had a crush on his friend, way bsck in highschool, and that you were positive you were going to get together and he would csll you love because that's what good boyfriend's do.Â
Turns out, you weren't exactly his friends type. Neither were the other girls in your school.Â
âI don't give a shit, I'll do it,â You two smile to each other fondly for a few seconds and then you tap the top of the car âThanks for the ride, dude.âÂ
âYouâre welcome, bro.â He rolls his eyes, annoyed because he hates when you call him that, but waits for you to get inside either way.Â
And in the solitude of your room, you wait.Â
You distract yourself with papers that are due in a few days, you start studying for your finals even though they're months away and you even go downstairs to say goodbye to your parents when they leave for a fancy dinner with their colleagues before you hear your phone ring.Â
Mingi's FaceTime comes right on time, because you were getting really anxious from the radio silence on his end.Â
âI have a small query for you.â He puts on an accent that makes you grimace immediately and he laughs at you.Â
âEw. Never do that ever again,â you beg, going back upstairs to your room âGo ahead.âÂ
âHow do you do it?âÂ
âExcuse me?âÂ
âHow the fuck do you make yourself squirt, love?âÂ
Oh.Â
Definitely not the conversation you were hoping to have with him.Â
It caughts off guard and you stammer your response âUm⌠Youâ I mean, it's not really a thing I can explain.âÂ
âYou have such a way with words, though.âÂ
You stare at him through the screen, annoyed, and he just laughs again âDon't make me come over and beat you up.âÂ
âAlright, alright,â his giggling dies out and you distract yourself from the heat you feel creeping over your cheeks while putting away your statistics prep for the quiz you have next week. There's a bit of silence and then you hear him sigh âI do really want to know, though.âÂ
âIf you're asking me this to then go over to her house and prove her wrong, I'm not telling you shit.âÂ
âNo! No, that's not it at all,â he defends himself quickly when you turn your head to the camera, scowl in your face âWhen she asked me to do it, I really did try to make her, you knowâŚâÂ
âYou said squirt so freely a minute ago, Mingi,â you tease, smiling, but at his expression, you give in âWhat exactly did you do?âÂ
âI tried to, you know, do it like they do it in the movies,â he demonstrates his point with his free hand, his middle and ring finger down on his sheets, pressing and moving side to side âAnd she was enjoying it and she came, but nothing really⌠came out.âÂ
âWow, first of all: you make her come and she has the nerve to give you shit over text? I hate her,â you shake your head, disappointment written all over your face âand second of all, that was a terrible mistake.âÂ
âWhat? Going like this?â He does it again and you roll your eyes, laughing a second later.Â
âNo, dude, trying to porno your way into making her squirt.âÂ
âOh.â His movements on the sheets slow down and you grimace again.Â
âPlease stop doing that,â you beg and he snaps out of his thoughts to look at you through the screen. You take your phone and move to the bed, resting your head against the pillows with a huff.Â
You ponder for a moment. You're sure telling him what he wants to hear it's not really a threat to your friendship, but it's also something that's very personal and intimate. You can talk about sex with Mingi and the other guys, sure, what doesn't mean you tell them about your sex life.Â
Maybe that's why Wooyoung was so excited earlier today, because you spilled something that involves you directly and not something vague and general like you usually do.Â
âWould it give you peace of mind if I explained it to you?â You ask, your voice barely a whisper as you sit straight on the bed.Â
Your best friend takes what feels like a lifetime to respond and, when does, it's in a hushed tone as well âPlease.âÂ
You groan and you comply either way, trying to find the right words to even start âOkay, I'm going to be very technical about this.âÂ
âI wouldn't expect anything else from you.âÂ
His teasing tone makes you glare at him for a few seconds before dismissing it with a click of your tongue âThe very first thing you need to make sure happens, is that you wash your handsââÂ
âYes, Y/N, I'm not a virgin,â he huffs this time, annoyed âI know all of that, just skip to the part where I make her squirt.âÂ
âJesus, fine! I also want to clarify that this works on me and I'm not really sure if it'll work on anyone else, alright?â he nods and you look away from the screen because you're not sure how to look him in the eyes âThe first thing that I doâ The first thing that you need to do,â you correct yourself quickly âIs make sure she's comfortable. And I mean, the space. Towels, water bottles⌠She needs to hydrate a lot.âÂ
âHydrate⌠a⌠lotâŚâ You turn your head to the screen and your jaw goes slack at what you see.Â
âAre you writing this down?!âÂ
âIâm making sure I don't forget anything!âÂ
âYou're unbelievableâŚâ You let out under your breath and take a deep one before resuming the, apparently, class âSquirting can be confused as peeing andââÂ
âShit, hold on.â He interrupts and you hear his momâs voice at the door, asking him something you can't really catch through the shitty airpod audio âIt's just Y/N⌠I'm not really saying anything so I don't understand how I'm being too loud forâ Yes ma'am.âÂ
You try not to laugh because he's literally being scolded right in front of you.Â
Old habits die hard, and Mingi's mom loves to put him on the spot.Â
Your laugh dies hard as well, because the next words, for some reason, make your heart drop to your ass.Â
âShe's telling me to either cut it out or go to your house, so⌠I'm coming over.âÂ
âOh, Iâ Hello?â Your lockscreen mocks you because the call literally ended before you could tell him to go and fuck himself âShit.âÂ
You don't know why you panic, but you do. You tidy up the room, you change your pijamas into something more presentable and you try to remember what were you telling him before he pulls open your bedroom door.Â
âMingi! Fuck, you scared the shit out of me â you're panting, hand over your chest.Â
Heâs also panting, like he runned to get to your house, but he looks dumbfounded by your reaction âYour mom literally gave me the spare keys in your presence.â Â
When he steps closer, you notice he's wearing cologne and that his hair it's a little wet, still, so you figure he took a shower before calling you tonight.Â
Which means he probably wanted to sleep everything off, like he usually does, but whatever this is made him call you.Â
âYeah! But I thought youâ Nevermind.â He shrugs and gives your hair a kiss before he moves to sit at your desk, the same way he usually does when he steals your laptop and notes to complete his assignments for the few classes you share.Â
God. Somehow, you wish he was doing just that so it brings back some sense of normalcy. Maybe then, your heart can calm down enough for you to understand why this specific situation has your senses going insane.Â
You sit back down on your bed and try to get your heart back to its place in the meantime.Â
âThey're not home, right? I didn't see your dadâs car.âÂ
âCompany dinner.âÂ
âAh.â He nods and you both fall in uncomfortable silence. It shouldn't be awkward, but it kind of is, even if you laugh when he pulls out the notebook he was writing on from underneath his oversized shirt and steals a pen from your pencil case, it's still a little weird.Â
You gulp.Â
âSo, squirting can be confused as peeing.â He recalls the last thing you said with a smile and then he turns to look at you for a second âGo on.âÂ
You're grateful he's taking notes all of the sudden. He's turned to you, so you have a clear view of his back and you can freely take a grounding breath before continuing âIt can make you feel very uncomfortable if you think you're going to pee yourself and that's really why most women don't squirt in the first place.âÂ
âYou sound like you're reading a text book.â He confesses with a laugh.Â
âI told you, I'm being very technical about thisâ Besides, I did my research when I was trying toâŚâ you gulp again âYou know.âÂ
âYou said squirt so freely a minute ago.â Mingi teases you the same way you teased him earlier and you squint your eyes in return.Â
âVery funny. Anyways⌠Yeah, when you feel that, you usually tense up. You need to relax before even making it happen,â he nods, writing it down quickly âI also read that, depending on the person, you can confuse the liquid with, like, usual⌠arousal? Yeah, arousalâ you sound more confident the second time you say it, unsure on how to call it because you never really explained anything related to your vagina to anyone else.Â
He turns to you, confused âSo⌠If she doesn't squirt a lot, how can I tell if she did it?âÂ
âI guess you'll notice it in her reaction?â You shrug and then cough a little to try and get rid of the sudden lump on your throat âI mean, it's not my case, so I wouldn't⌠I wouldn't know that.âÂ
Mingi, because -you guess- hates you, just raises a brow and looks you over one time before turning back to his notes.Â
âA-anyways,â you cough again âIt's all in her g-spot. It happens because it gets stimulated and that g-spot it's likeâŚâ you, once again, try to find the ideal words to explain âIt's like the upper wall of the vagina? No, no, that's not right,â you see him draw a line over what he clearly wrote down on the paper and you laugh, apologetic âIt's more like the, uh⌠Like the front wall of it.âÂ
âFront wall?âÂ
âY-yeah?â you offer, nervous and unsure âI mean⌠Ugh, let me explain again. Something that you need to take into account is that you can only find it if she's really, really turned on.âÂ
âO⌠kay.âÂ
âSort of like when you get hard we, uh, also get hard. Just differently,â you notice he's no longer taking notes when you turn to him again and the room is suddenly very hot.Â
The ACâs on, right?Â
Fuck.Â
âAnd apparently it only really shows up when you're really aroused. The g-spot, I mean,â Quickly, you're up from your bed and walking around it, fetching your water bottle and taking a big gulp of it with your eyes closed.Â
Mingi clears his throat a second later.Â
âSo it feels hard to the touch orâŚâÂ
âNot really, um⌠It kinda feels like a berry.âÂ
He laughs âWhat?âÂ
âYeah, it's kind of soft but it has a texture to it too. And we, uh⌠have this gland that fills up with the liquidâ Kind of like a prostate gland! Yeah, that's what that article said,â putting even more distance within Mingi and you, you sit back on the bed, just on the other side âIf you try to do it before it fills up, you end up with nothing. That's what frustrated me the whole time I was learning how to do it.âÂ
âYou didn't drink enough water?âÂ
âNo, noâ It fills up when you get really turned on. And when I was trying, I was trying way too hard and didn't, uh⌠I didn't do a lot of foreplay before trying, s-so.â You nod, finishing the explanation in a softer voice.Â
Your cheeks feel hot and you swear your upper lip is sweating a bit. Why would you even say that?Â
âY-you didn't touch yourself enough orâŚ?âÂ
âExactly, I didn't, I just⌠Tried t-to stimulate it. Wasn't even wet enough so I used, uh, lube.âÂ
âOh⌠Lube. Sure, okay.â He nods again, and then moves his hand over his face, looking away for a second âAnd then?âÂ
âI'm not really sure how to⌠Give me a second.â
What were you even telling him before exposing yourself like that? Before the tension in the room skyrocketed in a suffocating way? You're not sure.Â
Oh, foreplay. Okay, what's next?Â
âFingering,â you say out loud when you remember and at the sudden word Mingi turns to you, eyes wide and you stumble over your words yet again âY-you need to finger her to stimulate the g-spot, duh.âÂ
âDon't duh me, Y/N, I'm learning!âÂ
âSorry!âÂ
âOkay! Now what do I do when⌠fingering.âÂ
That makes you frown. You're not really sure what to tell him next. So you look straight ahead and, unintentionally, move your ring and middle finger the way you do when you're touching yourself.Â
In the silence of the room, you audibly hear Mingiâs breath hitching and that draws you back to reality.Â
When you look at him, his eyes are solely focused on your fingers.Â
âI don't really know how to explain this next part.â You sound apologetic, your lips tensing into a straight line.Â
A bit passes.Â
And then another one and another one where Mingi looks at you with a weird, foreign expression on his face.Â
So you open your mouth to apologize to him, but he beats you to it.Â
âThen show me.âÂ
You swear you never even heard him sound like that before. Or maybe you have, the tone of voice similar to when he just wakes up, low, grouchy, as if his throat might be dry.Â
It just never affected you this way.Â
âW-what?â you blink hard, a few times, trying to focus on whatever the hell is going on.Â
âShow me how you do it⌠I-if you want to.âÂ
âMingi!âÂ
âI justâ Look, you don't have to,â he says right away âIf you don't want to, you can forget I ever asked but I'm so⌠curiousâ, he says, getting up from your desk chair and planting his knee into the bed âAnd I'm also really butthurt over what happened. I want to learn but I don't really have anyone else to ask.âÂ
âWhat about, uh⌠Minseo! Yeah, what about her?â you offer quickly, also getting up.Â
âSan's ex?!âÂ
âI don't know any other woman that you also know, Mingi!âÂ
He gulps and breathes heavily, gathering his words, his thoughts, just like he always does and you remember: This is Mingi. Your Mingi. The Mingi you've known for years and care about more than anything.Â
âI'm asking you because I trust you,â he says, looking you over once again âAnd because if I fail, you're not⌠going to make fun of me for it.â
There it is.Â
You soften at that and he seems to relax at your reaction. His demeanor lets you know he's not just saying that because he wants to see you touch yourself, he's being honest.Â
So you decide to be honest, as well. In a whisper, because your voice will tremble and give away how strongly you feel about his request.Â
âI've never done it in front of anyone before.âÂ
âSo no one has ever make youââÂ
âNo,â you confirm before he even gets it out and you sigh âI never ask for it and I haven't really⌠I've only slept withââÂ
âHangyeol.â He nods and scrunches his nose in disgust at the memory of your highschool boyfriend. They never really got along and it was a shame, because Han was a great guy, he just wasn't the one for you.Â
âMingi,â you walk over to him and he straightens up his spine âThis could really⌠I mean, there's no getting rid of me on this lifetime, buddy,â reminding him makes him smile and you do as well, nervous, your body on high alert âBut this could mess us up.â You finish in a whisper.Â
âI'm not letting that happen.â He says back, eyes scanning your face before zeroing on your eyes âThere's no getting rid of me either, love.âÂ
That nickname is going to be the death of you, you're sure. It makes you suck in air you very much need at this moment.Â
Fuck it.Â
âI'll⌠get the towels, then.â You smile a little even though your cheeks are burning and you feel a little dizzy while holding his gaze, but you don't back down.Â
Before you move, though, he stops you with his hand holding your waist âI know where they are. Stay here.âÂ
You could literally melt right now. And you know it's a short trip to the downstairs hallway closet from your room, so you make sure you strip your duvet before things get messy.Â
You should go to the bathroom, too, to clean yourself up a bit before Mingi finds out what you find out when you sit on your bed.Â
You're so wet.Â
And it's so fucking embarrassing, because you're not supposed to feel this way for him, for this.
Because, if anything, this is clearly just an educational experience.
And if Mingiâs excited look when he re-enters your bedroom tells you otherwise, you're choosing to ignore it for the clearly educational experienceâs sake.Â
âThese will do?âÂ
You take the two mismatched towels and place them on the bed right away, not even looking at him.Â
âYep.âÂ
You think he nods but you're not sure, you just caught a glimpse of him moving towards your desk while you pretend to fix the towels in the bed to perfection.Â
âOkay, so⌠You need to, uh, be comfy and shit. Drink water, you just did that a few minutes agoâŚâ when you turn to him, he's reading his notes like he's actually about to conduct an experiment and you chuckle before shaking your head âThe⌠The foreplay part should be next, right?âÂ
âRightâŚâ you drag out, biting the inside of your cheek before he looks back at you.Â
âYou look really tense, Y/N,â he deadpans, looking down at his notes again âYou need to relax so it can happen, right?âÂ
âYou're about to see me touch myself and you think I can relax?âÂ
âOh,â he frowns, immediately and then blinks a few times to refocus, you think âI'm not the one doing it?âÂ
âUh⌠Yes? Later? I thought you wanted to see me first, y-you⌠You asked me to show youâŚâÂ
You can feel him think, the gears on his brain twisting and you think he's going to backpedal at any second because he's not really saying anything. Then you see it, the moment the image crosses his mind.Â
And the next second you have him in front of you, towering over your form and then he's not.
Getting on his knees, he tentatively places a hand on your knee and parts your legs so you can make room for him to touch the end of the mattress with his chest and raise his chin just enough to make you think he's asking you to kiss him.
Oh God, you want to kiss him.Â
His voice is a sweet murmur when he speaks again âShow me how to get you there, love,â he sounds like he's pleading, like he's begging you to instruct him and your breath catches when he moves his hand up your thigh âWhat do you like?âÂ
Your mouth moves before you can even think âKiss me.âÂ
You don't even notice you're leaning forward until his breath fans against your chin and he tilts his head even more so that your noses touch.Â
âHow do you like being kissed?âÂ
You breathe out a laugh, a little annoyed by his constant questioning âFigure it out, Mingi.â And then the last thing you see is his smirk before his mouth presses against yours.Â
It's not what you expect. If anything, you expected him to take the lead. Han used to do so, all the guys you've ever kissed did it as well. You don't really know why his patience surprises you, but it does and if your heart could race even more, it would.Â
Because he waits for your guidance, waits for you to grab his shirt and jank him closer, waits for you to sigh against him and then returns the gesture when he feels your fingers move upwards and tangle in his dark hair.Â
His mouth is complying to yours, his tongue is exploring it and wetting your lips in the process and you've never felt this good with anyone before.Â
That's something you'll need to unpack later, but your brain disconnects when your best friend lets out a noise the second his hands touch your waist under your shirt and you forget, for a split second, that the point of this is to have you on your back pleasing yourself for him to learn.Â
Because you want nothing more than to hear him make that noise again.Â
The kisses grow needy and so do you when he trails a path with his wet lips from your chin to your neck and the next thing you know is that your back is against the towels you laid down before and his mouth is kissing the valley of your breasts over the cotton of your shirt.Â
You look down and it takes a second for him to feel you staring before he looks up at you âShould we take this off?âÂ
Your voice gives away how gone you are when you reply a simple yes and your shirt is on the floor the next instant.Â
Now, you're sure this is not the first time Mingi has seen you in your underwear. You both have gone swimming before and he has walked into your room a million times while you're getting ready. You're even sure he's seen you walk out from your bathroom in this specific bra before⌠But he's staring at you like it's the first time he's been able to trace the way your breasts spill a little bit over the fabric of this old bra you decided to wear today, like it's the first time he's allowed himself to enjoy it.Â
Like it's the first time he's allowing himself to feel any sort of attraction for you.Â
âFuck,â you whisper, shallow breath hitting his cheek when he returns his mouth to your jaw âLet me⌠Come here.âÂ
You scoot up until your head rests against your pillows and he follows, resting his body weight on his side and chasing your mouth when you turn your face to him.Â
You should speed this up. There's no way you're not going to feel like shit if tomorrow you wake up and remember you're letting yourself enjoy this more than you should.Â
Thereâs no reason for you to lose your breath when his fingertips trace softly the skin under your breasts or for your legs to grant him access so quickly when they reach your belly and bypass every other part of your body before going straight in between them.Â
And he notices it too.Â
âI don't know why I asked you so many questions before,â he starts, turning his hand so that he back of it and his nails start caressing the inside of your thighs through your sweatpants âI know what you like. I pay attention to you whenever we're talking about sex with the guys.âÂ
You frown, about to remind him that you never speak directly about your own experiences but he continues his ministrations, giving your other thigh attention âI usually watch you closely in case any of it makes you uncomfortable, but I notice your reactions when they speak about something that you like.âÂ
Oh. Heart on your sleeve, your biggest flaw.Â
âLike that one time Woo was going on and on about marking and you couldn't stop fidgeting on your seatâŚâ his nose traces your jaw softly before his teeth take the skin underneath it and you gasp just enough to prove him right âOr that time Yunho said he hated teasing because he's an impatient little shitâ he chuckles, his index finding the spot next to your mound and going down slowly until his knuckle graces the crevice where your leg and your hip connect âand you defended it until we had to stop you guys from yelling each other over itâŚâÂ
Your breath shakes and your eyes close at the sensation âMingiâŚâÂ
âAm I wrong?âÂ
You shake your head no and you can all but hear him smile when he speaks again.Â
âOf course I'm not.âÂ
You open your eyes and expect him to look at you the way he does when you're unable to defend yourself against his quips, but he's not. His eyes are following his own actions and his bottom lip is pulled by his teeth when he takes the fabric of your sweatpants and pulls it up, enough to give you some friction where you need it the most.Â
âCan I take this off?âÂ
âFuck, y-yes.âÂ
Joining your shirt on the ground, you're left only in your underwear while Mingi is fully clothed and it bothers you out of nowhere.Â
âYou're so wet alreadyâŚâ he observes and you blush, puffing some air and covering your eyes with you hand. He just laughs âThat's a good thing, it means that I'm doing okay.âÂ
He's doing more than okay. Damn all the experience he has and the way he reads you so well.Â
But his sweet tone gives you some clarity and you support your weight on your hand to fix your position on the bed.Â
âAlright, let's⌠resume the lesson before my parents get home.âÂ
âThey probably won't for now. The company dinners last until like⌠two in the morning, usually, right?âÂ
âThat's when they decide to go out for drinks.âÂ
âYour mom always wants to go out for drinks.âÂ
âLet's not talk about my mom right now!â you beg and he laughs again, making you chuckle alongside him and you're glad he's talking all of this -the kissing, the teasing, the sweet-talk and the wet patch on your underwear- so well.Â
The awkwardness from before dissipated the moment he got on his knees in front of you and all that followed was this lovely tension you're dying to keep between the two of you forever even though you shouldn't.Â
âShow me, love,â he pleads and you sigh, his mouth finding your cheek for a quick second, encouraging you âAnd then you can show me how to make you feel good, too.âÂ
You stare at him for a few seconds âDamn, you're good,â he shakes his head and you smile, getting rid of your underwear and pushing the quick moment of embarrassment being bare with him in the room gives you âRemember that this is what works for me, okay?âÂ
He nods and then props himself up so he can see it better.Â
You take a second before your fingers dive into your wet folds and, when you do, you gasp at the feeling.Â
You've never been more wet just for kissing and teasing before. What the fuck.Â
You do what you usually do when you're alone for a while and try to contain yourself from moaning because Mingi's eyes keep moving from your fingers to your face. Then, you remember you should be talking him through it, as well.Â
âYou see how I'm building it up?â you start, chest heaving and he hums as his reply âI'm not trying to make myself come but I'm kinda just⌠edging myself a little bit.âÂ
âEdging,â he repeats and then hisses when he sees your thumb pressing into your clit just how you like it, making you sigh heavily âI know all about that, that's good.âÂ
âY-you do?âÂ
âYou'll be surprised,â he smiles, proud of himself.Â
âOkay,â you continue, taking a deep breath âThen you know about prepping, too,â he nods âSo, a finger firstâŚâ you say, swallowing hard when your index makes its way into your cavity without much effort.Â
Dragging back and forth for a minute or so, you're incapable of containing yourself any longer. Air leaves your mouth in pants and your eyes close when you drag the pad of your finger upwards, locating your g-spot with ease because you're used to it.
âAnd then, two fingers.âÂ
âMhm.âÂ
âLook at the position of my hand. I read that these two fingers work the best because they're longer than the rest, althoughâŚâ you look at Mingi's hand over your belly. You didn't even noticed before this that he was touching you, but he is and his thumb is tracing a pattern that both relaxes you and sends shivers down your spine âI'm sure that it won't be a problem for you, huh?âÂ
He sends a cocky smirk your way and you would've smacked him if you weren't so⌠preoccupied.Â
Pressing your precious spot and then dragging back and forward, you stop the movements altogether. It felt too good, way more than good and it's a different sensation of what you're used to.Â
And it's all because of him.Â
You look at his side profile, his eager eyes commiting to memory what you're doing to yourself, probably taking mental notes now that his notebook is long forgotten over at your desk andâŚÂ
He deserves this. He deserves to be the one to have this, just tonight.Â
You hate to leave what feels like it's about to be your best orgasm in the hands of someone who's just learning, yet alone a man.
But Mingi is not just any man.Â
âMingi,â you call and his curious eyes leave your heat a second later âyour turn.âÂ
âDid you⌠Did it happen? I didn't see anythiââÂ
âNo,â you interrupt him, your fingers leaving you and you turn to him, your clean hand finding his face âshow me what you learned.âÂ
His mouth parts, but you have a newfound confidence and a glint in your eyes that is new, so nothing comes out.Â
âProve that bitch wrong.âÂ
That seems to do it.Â
His eyes go from being confused to spark with determination and want and electricity runs through you again because he seems so relieved he gets to touch you sooner than expected.Â
Shyness and nervousness buried six feet under, you both smile to each other before you feel him.Â
His fingers gathering your wetness, his thumb finding your clit with ease and expertise.Â
âWettest pussy I've ever touched.â You can tell he's a little lost in the heat of the moment but it's okay. So are you.Â
Fuck.Â
It's been way too long since someone else touched you this way, so you all but melt at the circles he draws on your clit. He paid close attention before, because he's touching you just the way you like it.Â
âThat feels so goodâŚâÂ
âYeah?â he asks, dark eyes finding yours before a particular stroke forces you to close them. And then he gathers enough slick to insert his ring finger inside and you can't help the moan that slips past your lips.Â
You lift your hand to cover your mouth, but Mingi clicks his tongue in feign disappointment âI want to hear if I'm making you feel good, love. Don't hold back on me just because this is unconventional.âÂ
The worries die altogether with that.Â
And now that you have free reign to stop containing yourself, you don't know how to stop.Â
It's not long before his index joins his other finger but he doesn't go for it right away. He fucks you slowly, allowing you to get used to the unfamiliar stretch of his way longer, way thicker digits until they slide in and out with little effort.Â
His pace picks up after what feels like ages and your hand fists his shirt for the second time tonight, nodding and moaning in encouragement.Â
âDeeper,â you instruct âcurl them upwards and go deeper, you'll feel it then.âÂ
He obeys immediately, his chest heaving and his mouth parting in delight when he finds it. The pad of his finger presses down on it tentatively and your grasp on his shirt hardens.
âIs that it?â you nod and he does it again, which earns another moan âWhat do I do now?âÂ
Before you completely get lost in the feeling, you decide to drop the step by step bullshit aside and give him the full instruction in hopes that he'll remember it all without fucking up: âWhat works for me is pressing⌠Fuck, yeah, just like that a-and thenâŚâ you take deep breath âJust a little harder⌠Yeah, then rub it in a circular motion while maintaining that same pressure⌠Fuck, Mingi!âÂ
He's a little too good at following instructions, because he touches you like he's been doing this forever and soon you feel the familiar swell, the usual buildup of it all and he's taking you over the age like it's nothing.Â
You forget how to speak, you forget how to tell him what he needs to do next and so, when you finally explode, you take his wrist and place his two fingers over your clit.Â
When you move them side by side, he lets out a fascinated giggle but knows exactly what to do.Â
A second later, your release is coating your thighs and the towels underneath you and you don't register anything else because your ears are ringing.Â
Did you lose consciousness for a second? It feels like you did.Â
That was the best fucking orgasm you've ever felt in your entire life.Â
And when you come back down, you only register the sound of your breathing and plump lips kissing your face, his fingers stopping their pace once he realizes you're done with it.Â
Opening your eyes, you stare at your popcorn ceiling for a second. Then, you look at Mingi who's already staring at you with a what the fuck just happened expression.Â
It makes you laugh. Softly at the beginning, post-orgasm bliss takes over but then Mingi laughs too and your whole chest swells with inexplicable pride.Â
You don't think twice before kissing him again. When you realize you did it, you pull back and blink at him like he didn't make you see stars three seconds ago.Â
âThat wasâŚâ his eyes do the thing he usually does. You never notice it until now, but he scans your face so frequently you've grown used to it, but now⌠It feels different. His teeth nip his bottom lip and he shakes his head before speaking âCome here, love.âÂ
And then he's kissing you again, slow, intimate, beyond the stupid lesson you just taught him.Â
But you don't mind it one bit.Â
You sit up, getting on your knees on the bed and basically forcing him to do the same. Ignoring the gross sensation of the wet towel underneath you, you pull him further into you until his chest presses against yours, until his hands roam your body and settle on your waist, securing the embrace.Â
This time, when you pull away, there's this whole unspoken new thing between you.Â
âThat wasâŚ?â you press, smiling a bit, pulling both you and him back to reality.Â
Right now, with you half naked and his hard-on pressing on your belly, it's not the time to discuss your feelings.Â
âPossibly the coolest thing I've seen,â he starts, giggling when you roll your eyes âand the hottest thing I've seen, too,â you shrug, dismissing his stare because it's making you feel hot all over your body, again âand I'm really, really grateful you said yes, love.âÂ
The soft tone he uses to say the last bit relaxes you and you nod, deciding it's not the time to tell him you never even came like that on your own.Â
Instead, you decide to grasp this intimate moment and extend it as much as you can. You can see Mingi is not expecting it when you reach his sweatpants and let your shaky thumb trace the outline of his cock.Â
Closing his eyes, he lets out a pleased sigh before he grabs you by the back of your neck and rests his forehead against yours.Â
âThis is supposed to be purely educational, Y/NâÂ
âIs that what you want it to be?â you softly ask, pulling your hand away but then his hips buck and chase after your touch, making you smile despite the emotions swelling in your chest âLet me help you⌠PleaseâŚâÂ
âFuck, don't beg me, love.âÂ
âDon't make me beg, then.âÂ
What the fuck are you even doing?Â
âY/N, Iââ he stops suddenly and you're too lost in the moment to notice why.Â
But then the sound of keys and a door closing downstairs scares the fuck out of you and you push Mingi away without thinking it through.Â
He lands with a thud on your bedroom floor, next to your discarded clothes.Â
âWhat the fuck, Y/N?â he whispers-shouts, both shocked and offended, but you're getting off your bed and picking up your clothes and the soaked towels so you don't really care about his feelings right now.Â
âBathroom. Now.âÂ
You're so blessed for having your bedroom right next to the upstairs bathroom. And so blessed that it is your bathroom and you don't have to share it. Youâll get on your knees and thank your gods afterwards, but right now you can only think one thing.
Don't get caught.Â
Lord knows you'll never hear the end of it if Mingi walks out of here with a hard-on. Your dad will kill him, your mom will cheer because she loves the idea of you and Mingi together and you'll probably pack your bags and move away if it happens.Â
When you lock the door behind you and make a quick show of putting your underwear and pants back on, you hear Mingi chuckle.Â
âWe can always tell them we're having a sleepover, Y/N, you didn't have to karate kick me off the damn bed!âÂ
âHush!â But he just keeps giggling at your very obvious flustered state.
You're about to rip him a new one when he takes two strides, backs you against the bathroom sink, and catches your lips in a quick, sweet kiss and all your worries dissolve just like that.Â
âGuess they didn't go for drinks after all..âÂ
âYou think?â cocking your head to side, the smile on your lips can't be fought at this point.Â
He returns it and leans in for another kiss, longer this time and you sigh against his mouth before pulling away because you really, really shouldn't be doing this right now.Â
You hear your mother calling your name and then footsteps up the stairs. A murmured she must be sleeping and a hum from your father before they pass the bathroom door. You truly only relax when you hear their door closing at the end of the hallway.Â
âOkay, we're safe now.âÂ
âWhen were we ever not safe?âÂ
âWhen I was half naked on my bed, Mingi!âÂ
He shakes his head with a smile and takes a step back.Â
You clear your throat.Â
âI really did want to help you out butââÂ
âRaincheck?â he asks and at you hesitation to say yes, he continues âIf you want to. If you don't, it's okay. We⌠We'll figure it out, okay?âÂ
âOkay.âÂ
He smiles again âGood, uhâŚâÂ
Mingi seems unsure on what to do next. Feeling the same, you decide the best thing to do is to get him out of here.Â
Opening the bathroom door, you carefully peek into the hallway, taking his hand in yours and beckoning him to follow you down the stairs, trying to make as little noise as possible.Â
âShit, your shoesâŚâ you whisper.Â
âI don't think they noticed if they didn't barge into the bedroom to check on us like they usually do, love.â He returns, in the same tone.Â
That does nothing to ease your mind, but he makes sure to put them on quickly and then grabs your shoulders, shaking you in a teasing manner.Â
âQuit worrying, Y/N. I can feel you thinking.âÂ
Of course he does. There's no one, in this world, that knows you better than him.Â
It makes your heart flutter and it shouldn't. But you're getting on your tippy toes and stealing a parting kiss before you think about it too much.Â
It's irresponsible for you to do so, but Mingi grabs your waist and extends the duration of the kiss and suddenly you don't give a fuck about your parents or anyone else finding out about this⌠shift in your dynamic.Â
âSee you tomorrow?â he asks against your lips and you nod.Â
âSee you tomorrow.âÂ
And with that, he leaves.Â
You lock the door and practically run to your room after.Â
What the fuck have you done?
If you read all the way down here: THANK YOU SO MUCH. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and since itâs an open ending (sort of), let me know if you want a second part!Â
