Zara Larsson Releasing New Album ‘Venus’ + Tour Dates
Today, multiplatinum chart-topping global pop powerhouse Zara Larsson announces her new album VENUS, set for release on February 9, 2024, via Sommer House/Epic Records. Pre-order/pre-save VENUS HERE. Riding high on her current single “On My Love” with David Guetta, Zara has also confirmed details of a spring UK and European headlining tour. Dubbed The Venus Tour, tickets will be on-sale on November 3rd via www.zaralarssonofficial.com alongside dates for Zara’s Swedish holiday specials, Honor The Light. It marks her first run of global headline shows since the pandemic. See full itinerary below and look out for North American live shows in the new year. A pop album fit for a goddess, VENUS is Zara Larsson setting her own agenda, in part by looking back on where she’s come from. First single “Can’t Tame Her” was a fierce, female-forward anthem that spent over 16 weeks in the UK Top 40, reached number 3 on iTunes, and number 1 on US Dance Radio: a journey all the sweeter given it was also Larsson’s first release on her own Sommer House label, following trailblazing deal with Sony which saw the still-just-25-year-old simultaneously take control of her entire recording catalogue. This summer Zara also dropped “End of Time,” a cinematic visitation with your younger self and a reminder to always follow that inner drive. Last month, Zara Larsson’s latest single with David Guetta, “On My Love,” was crowned the highest debuting record of 2023 at Dance Radio. Just four weeks later, the song has reached #1 on the chart, making it the country’s biggest dance record. Upon release, the song and video were praised by a diverse pool of media, from Good Morning America(who called it “emotional”) to People (a “banger” and “club-ready dance track about a valued bond built on unconditional love”), Uproxx (Best Pop Songs of the Week), Rolling Stone, V Magazine and much more. Recently, she shared the official acoustic video (watch HERE) and Niklas Dee remix (stream HERE). Tomorrow, she will share the official Felix Jaehn Remix (available HERE). Stream the original “On My Love” HERE and watch the music video HERE. See “On My Love” Below: With its elevated sound, eclectic style and unifying visuals, VENUS solidifies Zara Larssonas one of modern pop’s most essential stars. Honor The Light itinerary: 12/8/23 – Stockholm, SE - Cirkus 12/9/23 – Stockholm, SE - Cirkus 12/16/23 – Skelleftea, SE - Sara Kulturhus The Venus Tour itinerary: 2/16/24 – Manchester, UK - Manchester Academy 2/17/24 – Glasgow, UK - O2 Academy 2/18/24 – Birmingham, UK - O2 Academy 2/21/24 – London, UK - Roundhouse 2/24/24 – Paris, FR - Le Trianon 2/25/24 – Brussels, BE - Ancienne Belgique 2/26/24 – Amsterdam, NL - AFAS Live 2/28/24 – Berlin, DE - Verti Music Hall 3/1/24 – Cologne, DE - Palladium 3/2/24 – Milan, IT - Fabrique 3/4/24 – Zurich, CH - Komplex 457 3/6/24 – Prague, CZ - Forum 3/7/24 – Warsaw, PL - Towar 3/8/24 – Vienna, AT - Gasometer 3/16/24 – Reykjavik, IS – Laugardalshollin 6/21/24 – Dublin, IE - Fairview Park About Zara Larsson "One of pop's biggest and outspoken young stars” (The Guardian), Zara Larsson provokes and pushes pop culture forward, with enlightened and energized anthems that soar and seduce all at once. With every move, she continues to quietly make history and break records: her platinum-certified 2017 full-length, So Good, notably stands out as one of the most-streamed debuts on Spotify by a female artist ever. Zara’s growing catalogue boasts one smash after another, from “Never Forget You,” “Lush Life,” and “Ain’t My Fault” to Clean Bandit collaboration “Symphony.” Along the way, she has received awards and nominations ranging from the Swedish Grammys, BRITS and MTV EMAs to even gracing the stage of the Nobel Peace Prize. 2020’s second international album, Poster Girl, featured breakout hits like “Ruin My Life,” “Wow,” and saw Zara make further strides towards Pop’s top table. Launched entirely in lockdown, the project nonetheless saw Zara push boundaries, performing virtually for Roblox and hosting a viral live-stream show in partnership with Ikea on International Women’s Day. In the last year or so, Zara Larsson has been unleashed back into the real world: she played a sold-out Poster Girl European arena tour, scored a hit collaboration with Alesso (“Words” was named by Billboard one of the best dance records of 2022) before returning with brand new single, “Can’t Tame Her.” Conceived alongside close-knit friends like MNEK, MTHR, and Danja - plus choreography from Beyoncé collaborator JaQuel Knight - the track spent 16 weeks in the UK top 40 and aptly captures where Zara Larsson stands in 2023: “Can’t change her / Can’t blame her / Can’t tame her”. Recent track “End Of Time” and David Guetta collaboration “On My Love” further tease Zara Larsson’s upcoming third international album, with Larsson also confirmed to make her acting debut in Netflix’s upcoming movie A Part Of You in 2024. i made a few dynastid eyeset recolors! i love maxis-match cc and i was really excited to have an eyeset that i could easily make a decent-looking recolor with. all of these should be compatible with the addon set made by @squea and can be used with each other without any editing needed. however the order might get messed up with other addon sets as i ordered them right after squea's addon set. this is easily fixed in sims 4 studio by editing the secondary display index values to your preferred order.
downloads here (free/no adfly, mediafire) more info below the cut
🔔 @maxismatchccworld @mmoutfitters @squea
to make these i repeatedly cloned swatches from the original addon set (using “add swatch” so the IDs are not the same), so they should have all the same settings and the same specular.
SET ONE ("AF"): i was using aoifae's recolors of @plumbheadsims' delicate eyes, so i tried to remake those swatches. they aren’t 100% accurate to the delicate eye colors because i was lazy and just eyedropped the swatches. the natural and hazel swatches are from @missrubybird's aqua trigger eyes and the bright and unnatural swatches are original to @aoifae. (1, 2) (if you like delicate here are some occults too) SWATCH COUNT: 83 COLORS: mostly natural colors. there are some natural hazels and some bright unnatural colors. i also included the default colors of delicate as nondefault swatches!
SET TWO ("SR"): i was also using a sorbets remix recolor of delicate eyes, so i made a set for those too. when i started making this post though, i went to @noodlessorbets to see if there was a tag i should use and discovered immediately that someone else made a much more extensive set with other palettes as well and even created a heterochromia set! you can find @kissalopa's recolors here! it looks like we colored them differently, mine is a little more saturated, so i’ll still include mine in case you prefer them. you should be able to use both at the same time as i used a different secondary swatch color. (and if you don’t use my first set, you can use this one and her sorbets with no editing needed as mine will be ordered after hers) SWATCH COUNT: 76 COLORS: rainbow
SET THREE ("HS"): hs stands for homestuck. this set features all of the canon troll blood colors, from the extended zodiac signs, as well as black and candy red (for juvenile or mutant trolls.) it has the option for white sclera and yellow sclera, in case you are making humanified trolls or actual trolls. the yellow sclera may not be 100% canon accurate (may appear too light) but it's the right hue and it should look fine during gameplay. also at the end there are jade and black swatches with a brighter yellow sclera for any rainbowdrinkers :) SWATCH COUNT: 30 COLORS: palette + black and bright/candy red. the "AF” set i made also includes a black swatch, but i made sure to make one lighter than the other.
SET FOUR ("FUN"): as i was recoloring sometimes i would get off track and make random colors. then when i had finished my plans i decided to just make some Fun Interesting colors. these are all pretty bright or unnatural looking, and some of them look strange. they don't follow any particular palette. they are also not sorted by color and are roughly in the order i made them. SWATCH COUNT: 36 COLORS: unnatural, bright
i contemplated remaking these +v1 and went as far as drawing a new heart catchlight and making 32 out of 90 swatches (16 colors) but then i felt like that was just too many swatches, so i stopped. this is what it would have looked like below (i had heart and normal versions) but im not sure anyone would want or use these. if you do lemme know i guess
sorry that this post lacks complete previews and is sort of strange! i have kind of never made a tumblr post before. if anything is wrong with the eyes like the textures are weird or something let me know! i thought perhaps they looked a bit artifacted in my game but i compared them to the original dynastid set and they looked like the same quality to me.
edit: i just found out tagging people below the cut sends them a notification. sorry to everyone who was pinged omg
#ts4mmcc#ts4mm#ts4cc#s4mm#s4cc#ts4 recolor#ts4#ts4 cc#s4#s4 cc#sims4cc#sims 4 cc#sims4 cc#mycc#this accidentally sat in my drafts for a month#i love to have adhd#if you download all of these you will have like 300 eye colors in your game#also probably will need the more columns mod#i have even more colors than this#that's why i got annoyed at the heart eyes so quickly LMAO#maybe ill do them but like. make it so theyre different packages#and make it like Choose One#idk

FACTORY RECORDS – A COMPLETE SPOTIFY DISCOGRAPHY
FOLLOWING the success (well, relatively) of our John Peel playlist, in which we compiled all the Festive 50 tracks for every year John ran that feature all in one place (well, the ones from Spotify anyway), we’re delving into the catalogue of Manchester’s Factory Records.
It’s a story that’s been well told in lots of different ways. Named after the New York club and started by Alan Erasmus and local TV journalist Tony Wilson as a club night in 1978, it morphed into a record label with the addition of Slaughter and the Dogs’ tour manager Rob Gretton, who then invited lauded producer Martin Hannett on board.
Running it with virtually no business acumen, following artistic whims, opening a nightclub (the Haçienda) which lost money hand over fist and cost a small fortune to design, Wilson let the bands own their music and didn’t believe in contracts. As such it was no real surprise when the company filed for bankruptcy in 1992.
The labels roster was a who’s who of Manchester music, the major acts being Joy Division – then New Order, A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column at its outset – also releasing early recordings by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and James. As the late 80s and 90s hit, the label released records by various New Order side projects (Revenge, The Other Two, Electronic) and Happy Mondays, Northside, The Wake and many more.
With this playlist, we set ourselves the challenge of trying to include something from every release on Factory. Obviously there are some gaps, notably Peter Hook’s Revenge project, and Gillian and Stephen’s The Other Two; a shame, as both had their merits.
Also missing largely is releases form the Factory Classical canon, save for one from pianist Ralf Hind. Again, a shame, as in some cases there were pretty exciting releases from (at the time) young British contemporary composers such as the late Steve Martland and Graham Fitkin.
We’ve included tracks from the Factory associate label Factory Benelux, that did largely what it says on the tin – release Factory records in Belgium, but also later found a home for the likes of longstanding Factory acts Section 25 and Stockholm Monsters.
Although we’ve limited ourselves to one track per release (even albums), we have in some cases added two if it was released with different tracks on Factory Benelux, and we’ve also added some remix tracks here and there for separate releases. There are one or two compilations on the label, in which case we allowed ourselves a track from those as well – “1963”, from New Order’s Substance, being a case in point.
Stylistically, the playlist flies all over the place: from Rolf Hinds’ classical folk song, through the punk/funk of early A Certain Ratio and the dark post-punk of Joy Division; through the soul jazz of Karima and Royal Family and the Poor, to the baggy of Happy Mondays and Northside, the indie pop of The Railway Children and The Wake and the acid house-influenced Technique and dance of The Other Two.
Find yourself a quiet 16 hours or so, and dive in.

Happy Anniversary "Living Things"! (June 26th, 2012)
Living Things is the fifth studio album by American rock band Linkin Park. It was released under Warner Bros. Records and Machine Shop Recordings on June 26th, 2012, in Japan, and throughout the rest of the world during the following week. Production was handled by vocalist Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin, who both co-produced the band's previous two studio albums Minutes to Midnight (2007) and A Thousand Suns (2010). Living Things would be their last album to be produced by Rubin.
The band states that Living Things combines elements from their previous four studio albums to create a new sound. They stated they finally felt they were in "familiar territory" and "comfortable in [their] own skin" after years of experimentation that resulted in their two previous studio albums, Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns. Living Things was chosen as the album's title because of the numerous personal topics on the album.
The lead single for the album, "Burn It Down", was sent to radio and released to digital music retailers on April 16, 2012. Living Things debuted at number one on Billboard 200 with sales of 223,000 copies in the United States in its opening week. The second single for the album, "Lost in the Echo", was released on October 19, 2012. The third single "Powerless" was released on October 31, 2012. The fourth and final single for the album, "Castle of Glass", was released in its physical format on February 1, 2013. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA in August 2017.
The recording of Living Things started in March 2011 and ended in April 2012. The band's co-lead vocalist and rapper, Mike Shinoda, and Rick Rubin served as producers for the album.
The album explores the genres alternative rock, electronic rock and rap rock.
On March 28, 2012, Shinoda confirmed that the album's first single is "Burn It Down". On April 11, 2012, it was confirmed that it would be sent for radio airplay and released to iTunes digital download on April 16, 2012. Shinoda also confirmed they were filming a music video for the song, with the band's turntablist Joe Hahn directing the video. The band teamed up with the Lotus F1 team to create a musical racing iPad app titled Linkin Park GP, where players drive a Lotus E20 and interact with an environment that allows the player to create a remix of "Burn It Down", as well as zooming into individual sections of the song. The music video for "Burn It Down" premiered on MTV on May 24, 2012. On April 15, 2012, Mike Shinoda posted a blog update confirming that the new album title is Living Things and that the album would be available for pre-order through their website, starting April 16. Living Things was released on June 26, 2012. Pre-orders for the album began in April 17, 2012; upon purchase, fans were subscribed to Living Things Remixed, remixed songs from the album. In celebration of the release of Living Things, the band teamed up with music streaming website Spotify to release live compilations of each album era.
On May 9, 2012, a worldwide interactive scavenger hunt commenced. Shinoda proclaimed the near-end of the scavenger hunt in May 23, 2012, stating he would call BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe the next day to premiere a new song from Living Things, the end result of the hunt. The song that premiered on BBC Radio 1 on May 24, 2012 was the album's fourth track, "Lies Greed Misery".
On June 4, 2012, the official lyric video of "Lies Greed Misery" premiered. On the same day, "Lies Greed Misery" was featured in a trailer for the video game Medal of Honor: Warfighter, that was revealed by Electronic Arts at E3 2012. "Castle of Glass" was also confirmed to be featured in Medal of Honor: Warfighter. "Powerless", the twelfth and closing track of the album, is featured in the closing credits to the film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. A performance music video of "Powerless" featuring scenes from the film was released on Yahoo! The music video was directed by Timur Bekmambetov, director of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The official lyric video for "Lost in the Echo" was released via Linkin Park's official YouTube page on June 29, 2012. and the official music video was released on September 4, 2012.
On October 5, 2012, "Lost in the Echo" was released as the album's second single. On October 10, 2012, Linkin Park released the music video for "Castle of Glass". On October 31, 2012, "Powerless" was released as an iTunes-only single in Japan, although there has been neither an official statement about "Powerless" being a single nor any promotion around the release date. "I'll Be Gone" was released to alternative radio as a promotional single on December 5, 2012, while "Castle of Glass" was released as the album's third single on February 1, 2013 and impacted US radio on January 5, 2013.
Living Things debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 223,000 copies, beating out Maroon 5's Overexposed by 1,000 sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and fell to number 5 on its second week on chart selling 64,000 copies.
The album has reached the top spot in seventeen countries becoming their best charting album so far and has been certified Gold in Australia for shipments of at least 35,000 copies, and also attained Gold certification in Switzerland. It also debuted at number one in UK Albums Chart, selling 41,000 copies beating out Maroon 5's album once again. In Canada, the album also debuted at number one selling at least 20,000 copies. As of 2014, the album has sold 681,000 copies in the United States.
Upon its release, the album was met with mixed reviews from critics.

ALBUM REVIEW: Late Registration
“So they asked me…Why you call it Late Registration Ye?/Cause we taking these motherf***ers back to school!”
Hip-hop trail blazer and Chicago legend Mr. Kanye West follows up his status-establishing album The College Dropout with a sophomore project that proves he’s far from a one hit wonder, relishing in his own league of musical production, lyricism, and soul touching artistry.
Overall Thoughts
I mentioned in an earlier post that Late Registration is my favorite album by Kanye, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I can endlessly rave about it. In 70 minutes, Late Registration(LR) utilizes the perfect number of skits, Grade-A featured verses from Jay-Z, Nas, Lupe, Common, Paul Wall, Cam’Ron, and Consequence, and a stellar instrumentation that combines old-school soul samples and flawless string orchestration. It also doesn’t hurt that film score composer and record producer Jon Brion helped produce some of the best tracks (Gold Digger, Roses, We Major).
Kanye elevated his pen game on this 2005 classic record. Before he made albums, he was already a solid writer and could definitely put together a verse. On LR, he exceeded to a new level, talking about himself, success, survival, while matching the prophetic vibe of “Jesus Walks” on tracks like “Diamonds From Sierra Leone”, “Roses”, and “Crack Music”. On top of these commentary tracks, he produced the tear-jerking track “Hey Mama”, my favorite dedication-to-mother songs in hip hop period.
I should also acknowledge the skits in LR. Through 4 clips, a story unfolds in a fraternity: Broke Phi Broke. In the four skits, they chant their various financial difficulties and struggles with a sense of pride. And in the final skit, we see Kanye get kicked out of the fraternity for being caught having new shoes in his closet. This is not only hilarious, but a clever commentary on his progress/success, and separation from the common plight and status of black men. Also, the topic of the skits excellently transition to the next song. Skit #1 talks about not having gas money, and the next song is “Drive Slow”; Skit #2 just repeats “broke, broke, broke, broke”, and the next two songs are “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” and “We Major”, both thematically about money and success. Skit #3 ends with a joke about not affording Christmas trees and the mother pretending to be one, and the next song is “Hey Mama”. And Skit #4 ends with Kanye being removed from the frat, and the next track is “Gone”. Expert skit placing on his part.
LR is a near perfect album; The “Empire Strikes Back” of hip hop sequels. This project has a song for any mood and definitely makes my top 10 favorite albums.
Album Breakdown
LR can be broken down into five section, each with their own distinct topics and tones, and separated by the four skits. These sections are:
Section 1: The Hits (Wake Up Mr. West) - Heard ‘Em Say, Touch The Sky, Gold Digger Section 2: Introspection (Skit #1) - Drive Slow, My Way Home, Crack Music, Roses, Bring Me Down, Addiction Section 3: Claim to Success (Skit #2) - Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Remix), We Major Section 4: Family Business (Skit #3) - Hey Mama, Celebration Section 5: Late Departure (Skit #4) - Gone, Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Bonus), Late
Section 1- The Hits
This section kicks off the album with bang after bang after bang. West and Adam Levine team up on the opening track “Heard Em Say” to lay down two themes of the album: Everything happens for a reason and nothing in life is guaranteed. He says several times “Nothing’s ever promised tomorrow today” accompanied by Levine’s harmonies that echo simultaneous sadness and hope. West also talks about some of the plagues African Americans, including low wages, AIDS, police harassment, admiration of drug dealers, and the pursuit of money and success. While talking about these inherently depressing topics, there’s a twang of hope and faith; there’s an energy of overcoming those obstacles and maintaining the belief that things will turn out alright.
In a 180 degree flip, the next track “Touch The Sky” completely contrasts the mellow mood of “Heard ‘Em Say”. With exhilarating trumpets sampled from Curtis Mayfield, West and Lupe bring an energy of celebrating success; reminiscing on the where they were before they got to the height they are now. A year before his debut classic Food and Liquor, Lupe spits one of the best verses on the album; matching Kanye’s energy while outshining him with his lyricism.
“Gold Digger”, possibly his most famous song, needs no introduction. This iconic track sampling Ray Charles’ I Got a Woman” is known by deep cut hip hop fans and mainstream fans alike. Jamie Foxx’s vocals on the chorus yelling “I Gotta Leave!” and Kanye’s verses about this girl who only wants him for his money makes an entertaining story but also indicates his new found status. He went from songs about not having money, to songs about dealing with a woman who only want him for his money. Talk about a bragging.
Section 2- Introspection
After two bop tracks we get “Drive Slow”, a track more mellow and laid back than the intro. Through a multitude of car metaphors, Kanye and Paul Wall talk about taking things slow, not to rush things, whether its spending money or sleeping with girls. Generally a middle of the road song for me. Nothing mind blowing but definitely easy to listen to.
In “My Way Home” we get a short, 16-line verse from Chicago all-time great Common, who talks about the struggles of the hood being home. This contrasts the hopeful tone on “Heard Em Say”, introducing a tone of relief he’s out that situation and he’s not going back. Fun fact: this is actually Common’s song that he decided not to add to his album Go!, which is why it just sounds like Common’s song instead of a Kanye song featuring Common. The slowed down samples vocals create a groove that almost makes you forget this is a sad song.
“Crack Music”, one of my favorites, paints an analogy to crack addiction and hip hop, hence the title. The Game brings a unique aggressiveness to the hook, which pairs well with the choir on chorus. However, the final leg of the song introduces an unsettledness: shakiness in the vocals, music freezes, and Malik Yusef delivers a poem that still gives me goosebumps to this day. The voice of legendary Charlie Wilson harmonizes perfectly with the chorus as well.
Next up we hear “Roses”, another instrumental masterpiece with Patti Labelle’s vocals and a Bill Wither’s sample on the chorus. West talks about the hospitalization of his Grandmother and the tightness/unity of his family. I love the quietness that plays during the verses and then the kick of the drums in the chorus. That excellently helps emphasize the intimacy of the situation.
Unfortunately, this leads into “Bring Me Down”, which is my least favorite track. Brandy’s vocals and Jon Brion’s instrumental are perfect, but it seems wasted on West’s verse. It’s disappointing to hear the epic strings and orchestration accompanied by Kanye saying weak lines like “There’ll always be haters, that’s the way it is/Hater n*****s marry hater b**ches and have hater kids” and “Yo girl don’t like me, how long has she been gay/Spanish girls say ‘Yo, no hablo ingles’”. The track honestly would’ve been better as an interlude with just Bandy’s singing, similar to “My Way Home” with just Common. But, the addition of West’s lyrics actually makes the song weaker.
Luckily, the project picks up with “Addiction”. However, I’ll admit I’m not a fan of lyrically. This isn’t a track where West is trying to demonstrate any lyrical expertise, so I’m not expecting a load of double entendres and layered meanings and mind-blowing messages. However, even for a surface level track, hearing him fake-stutter became a little annoying. But I like the topic of the song; him being addicted to all three “money, girls, and weed”. Although the topic and lyricism isn’t unique, it was at least entertaining.
Section 3- Claim to Success
Following the second skit, we get “Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Remix)” with hall of fame rapper Jay-Z. This track is interesting because Kanye and Jay don’t discuss the same topic. Kanye talks about his conflict with buying diamonds, knowing they’re Blood Diamonds and his purchase of them could result in the killing of Africans, of whom he’s a descendant. On the flip side, Jay talks about his label and his success. Although Kanye’s verse has more substance, I think Jay’s verse was better. There’s one particular set of lines I’ve always loved
“This ain’t no tall order, this is nothing to me/ Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week/I could do this in my sleep/ I sold kilos of coke, I’m guessing I can sell CDs/ I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man /Let me handle my business, damn”
Then we get the top tier track “We Major”, which is the album’s best collaboration up to this point. Jon Brion shines again with the instrumental, creating this epic atmosphere of accomplishments. Really Doe and Tony Williams illuminate the chorus with the vocals, while Kanye comes through with poeticism he hadn’t reached since “Heard ‘Em Say”. I want to add a quote of my favorite part of his verse, but it would be half the verse. And to top that, Nas comes through with an even STRONGER verse, a contender for the best verse on the album, competing with Lupe on “Touch the Sky” and Common on “My Way Home”. And to top THAT off, the last few minutes are basically Jon Brion, Warryn Campbell, and Tony Williams showing off their expertise while Kanye shouts them out, along with The Roc and his label, G.O.O.D. Music. His vocals during this part are echoed so it feels like the listener is at a concert. You could have headphones on in a quiet room and feel like you’re soaring. Easily a top 10 song in West’s career.
Section 4- Family Business
After the height of Diamonds From Sierra Leone and We Major, the record dies down and returns to mellowness, continuing with the heart-string-pulling “Hey Mama”. Here, we get West’s lyricism reminiscent of the College Dropout style. This definitely was a poem or song he’d written prior to this project. As I said earlier, one of my favorite mother-dedicating songs in all of hip hop.
The next song, “Celebration”, is one of my favorites on the album. The lyrics aren’t impressive; West goofily slant rhymes “wild” and “endowed” at one point. He just discusses drinking, girls, and the accidental birth of his kid through a busted condom. However, I believe it’s the placement of the song on the record that makes me love it so much. After hearing the epic-ness of songs like “Touch The Sky”, “Diamonds From Sierra Leone”, and “We Major”, this song feels like an after party. An intimate gathering that allows West and the listener to reflect a little, over another brilliant composition by Jon Brion. And while the verses are nothing to look twice at, the chorus is serene. West’s harmonization with himself improves his voice. And at barely past 3 minutes, the song is short enough where the sub-par lyrics aren’t too distracting.
Section 5- Late Departure
When I first began writing back in middle school, I used to rap to the instrumental for “Gone”. This song is foundational to my hip hop appreciation and extremely underrated. To start, the Otis Redding sample is perfect. Jon Brion again combines his expertise with West to create a beat that evolves as it progresses, increasing in complexity and instrumentation. The verses improve with song as well, Kanye delivering the first and last, while Cam’ron and Consequence deliver excellent verses in the middle. Between Consequence’s verse and Kanye’s final verse, we hear the beat breakdown and evolve even more, building up to a final verse that leaves the listener speechless. West reflects about a multitude topics: being so innovative that his labels won’t approve his ideas, wanting to leave public light, his come up from being broke just wanting to upgrade from his “cheap ass sofa”, leaving his hometown that had nothing to offer him, inspiring new artists, never selling out, and ultimately showing he’s no longer on-call for anybody to use him. He’s established enough to choose his company and produce as he pleases. This is a perfect culmination of the themes throughout the album, and is the perfect closer.
Now, I say that with hesitation because technically there are two more songs on the record: The original “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” without Jay-Z, and “Late”. “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” is an excellent track. Instead of talking about Blood Diamonds or guilt, West talks about his writing process, feeling snubbed from awards, and ultimately himself. Definitely some of his strongest pen game on the album.
“Late” contrasts the previous song with a very calm feeling, possessing a lullaby quality. Here, he drives home the point that he’s going to be late with things he does, tying together the album title and the context of the album’s release, which was released months late. However, the lateness definitely worth the wait. It’s a toss-up between Gone and Late for which I prefer as the better closer. Gone is an epic reflection on the album’s theme and messages, and displays some of the best lyricism on the album. However, Late is a surreal, warm ending that feels like more of a winding-down end. If I HAD to choose, I’d say “Gone”. Because while both are great, I can’t imagine the project without “Gone”, whereas I could see it without “Late”.
Top 3 Songs:
1) Gone 2) We Major 3) Hey Mama
Overall Grade: A

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
What Do You Mean?“ is a song recorded by Canadian singer Justin Bieber for his fourth studio album Purpose (2015). The song was released on August 28, 2015, as the album’s lead single by Def Jam. Written by Bieber, Jason "Poo Bear” Boyd and Mason Levy, the song was produced by MdL and co-produced by Bieber. “What Do You Mean?” is a pop and tropical house song, with its instrumentation consisting in light flourishes of panpipes, looped vocal samples, piano chords, fervent synths, bass and “slick beat” elements with the sound of a clock ticking, while Bieber uses a smooth, soulful vocal. Lyrically, “What Do You Mean?” describes not being able to figure out the opposite sex.
It was featured in several year-end lists of best songs of 2015. Commercially, the song topped the charts in several countries, including Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Norway. In Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, “What Do You Mean?” was Bieber’s first number-one single. The song’s music video features Bieber in bed with a young woman and getting kidnapped by masked men, as well as an appearance from actor John Leguizamo.
Background
After releasing “Where Are Ü Now” with Skrillex and Diplo for their project Jack Ü and achieving worldwide success and acclaim with it, Bieber announced “What Do You Mean?” as the first single from his then-upcoming album on July 28, 2015 on On Air With Ryan Seacrest. While he was there, his manager, Scooter Braun, made Seacrest a promotional sign for the single to hold and suggested he should put the photo on his Instagram account. To further promote the song’s release, Braun contacted several celebrities who started counting down the days until the release, among them Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Big Sean, Alanis Morissette, Meghan Trainor, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Little Mix, Chris Martin, Carly Rae Jepsen, and many others. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, he described it as “fun”, “summery”, and “amazing.” Regarding its lyrics he commented: “Well, girls are often just flip-floppy. They say something and they mean something else. So … what do you mean? I don’t really know, that’s why I’m asking.” Later, on August 19, 2015, Bieber direct-messaged different lyrics from the song to 49 randomly selected Twitter followers. As explained by Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz, “Each message included a clock animation with a different time that corresponded to the lyric’s placement in the song, and Beliebers spent Wednesday collectively piecing together the upcoming single’s lyrics in order." On August 5, 2015, Bieber presented the song to radio professionals at an iHeartMedia event.
Release
The song was released on August 28, 2015,and was serviced to contemporary hit radio on September 1, 2015. On October 16, 2015, it was revealed that a remix of the song with Ariana Grande would be made available if fans pre-ordered the album on iTunes.
On January 8, 2016, the official remix by Alison Wonderland was released on online.
Composition
"What Do You Mean?” was written by Justin Bieber, Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd and Mason Levy.It was produced by MdL and co-produced by Bieber. It was initially speculated by the media that Skrillex produced “What Do You Mean?”. However, a spokesperson for Bieber confirmed in an interview for Rolling Stone that the song was produced by Bieber, and MdL who had previously collaborated with the singer on his single “Boyfriend” (2012). Written in the key of A♭ major, it has an upbeat tempo of 125 beats per minute. Bieber’s vocal range spans from the low-note of F3 to the high note of G5.[ It is a pop and tropical house song.
During the song, Bieber uses a breathy vocal, which was considered “smooth and soulful." The production contains flute instrumentation, looped vocal samples, piano chords, tropical synths, bass and "slick beat” elements with the sound of a clock ticking. Gil Kaufman of MTV News wrote that the track contains “a slippery flute-like trill over a spare tick-tock island groove and a super chill vibe”, and is “a kind of sequel” to Skrillex and Diplo’s “Where Are Ü Now”, which featured Bieber.
Lyrically, “What Do You Mean?” talks about looking for romantic clarity and not being able to figure out the opposite sex, with Bieber singing in the chorus: “What do you mean / When you nod your head yes, but you wanna say no? / What do you mean / When you don’t want me to move, but you tell me to go?
Remixes
A remix was released on October 16, 2015, with Ariana Grande that would be available to listen to if fans had already pre-ordered the album on iTunes before November 13, 2015 (the album’s release date). If the album was not pre-ordered before the 13th, the fans who didn’t pre-order wouldn’t get to listen to it on iTunes and Apple Music, but could listen to it on other music streaming sites and online.
On January 8, 2016, there was an official remix sang by Alison Wonderlandonline.

Progressive power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN are currently re-releasing their back catalogue and after releasing four classic titles last week, today they have announced the re-release of three more classic titles. Imaginations From The Other Side, Nightfall In Middle-Earth and A Night At The Opera will be released on November 30th via Nuclear Blast The albums have been remixed and remastered, and are available on 2CD digipack and 2LP gatefold vinyl format, in a variety of limited edition colours. Singer Hansi Kürsch comments: "All these albums will not only be available as beautiful 2CD-digipak versions but can also be purchased as gatefold vinyl. Since the vinyl versions of our back catalogue have become so rare over the years, people have kept on asking us about re-issues. Now your wish is granted. The CD version will contain two CDs. One will feature an up to date sounding re-mix and the other will contain the original mix. Both sound great! In comparison to the original mixes, our input on the re-mix versions has been far greater, and therefore have been used for the vinyl versions. They sound fresher, richer and more exciting than the original ones and still pay tribute to the original recordings. It is 100% old school BLIND GUARDIAN with a modern twist.
