I love that Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas and the hobbits start all insulting each other on sight and Theoden literally says "It cannot be doubted that we witness the meeting of dear friends." Theoden Gets It

I love how most elf-mortal friendships (or other kinds of relationships, really) have the Vibe of the elf being so much wiser than the mortal, even if the elf doesn't act superior or anything
And then there's Aragorn and Legolas.

I feel like Bilbo would teach the elves of Rivendell the concept of a mathom with the express purpose of oh so politely asking them over dinner how were the Silmarils not a mathom

My #1 post of 2022
Semi-crack theory:
the reason mortals such as men and hobbits remark on how elves are as merry as children is actually because this is how elves see themselves interacting with each other
but this is how they see themselves interacting with mortals

Feanorian Week Day 1: Maedhros, the Hanged ManÂ
For @feanorianweekâ Iâve decided to do my takes on seven of the major arcana, and so Iâm glad itâs starting off with maedhros (coughcoughbestboycoughcough)! I would have liked to emulate the actual tarot depictions of the hanged man by putting him upside down, but I just couldnât find a way to depict nelyo that way that i wouldve been happy with... i hope thatâs alright!Â
Behind the scenes bonus: (aka my excuse for not drawing him upside down)
hoo boy... one day down and six more to go! đÂ
Maedhros | Maglor | Celegorm | Caranthir | Curufin | Ambarussa | Feanor

Feanorian week day 1 - Maedhros, âkingshipâ
Heâs wearing FinwĂ«âs crown here. This scene probably takes place soon after FĂ«anorâs death (but before Maedhros got captured by Morgoth).

Summary:
âAnd what were you doing out of bed?.â the drawing was not even close to being finished, but he could make out the shape of three figures roughly traced out. The page had been smudged, and looking back at his son, who looked more awake and ashamed of being caught out of bed, he saw a black mark on the left side of his chin. He must have fallen asleep drawing then. â pillows are much more suitable to lay our heads on than half-finished drawings.â

2021 in Tolkien art: 44 pieces
~all images are captioned with the characters~
As soon as the pandemic started in 2020 I lost motivation for my other hobbies and transitioned back into drawing and writing, and that stayed true this year (~200k words on top of this art, haha.) The Silm fandom has been my place of comfort throughout both quarantine and constant health issues so I continued to be decently productive. I did a LOT of art for the first oath and then also participated in Feanorian Week - and then the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang for the first time, in which I had a lovely experience. I would have liked to do Tolkien Secret Santa again but somehow I missed all the announcements and thus the deadline! Whoops.
Opinions on my 2021 art - I had a lot of fun with the low-pressure TFO art since it was basically just for me, but that also meant I sometimes didnât care if it was still pretty sketchy. I worked harder on the TRSB pieces and am decently happy with them. One thing that stuck out was that Iâve been less inclined to color/shade this year, and that used to be one of my favorite parts of digital art. ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ Have I improved from last year? Maybe just a little.
Super big thanks to @arofili , @admirablemonster , and @i-am-a-lonely-visitor for various exciting conversations, trades, and inspiration throughout the year! Also sending a thank-you to @jaz-the-bard , @crownlessliestheking , and @sweetteaanddragons for writing for my art during TRSB <3
Previous years in art:
2020 - 20 pieces
2019 - 6
