The game that got me started on Fire Emblem games, which are some of my favorites to this day. I've just been thinking about it's wide array of characters and feeling super nostalgic~

Panne could feel it. The urge to itch, the urge to scratch. It was literally getting underneath her skin. It was uncomfortable and it was all she could think about.
It was embarrassing but it was a possibility: Panne might have had fleas.
No, absolutely not. That couldn’t be it. She kept good care of herself, even if she did enjoy sleeping in the dirt more often than not because unlike the human-things, she wasn’t so soft that she had to sleep in one of their cots. Pathetic. That couldn’t be it.
The sensation was not bitey. It was just there. Annoying. It didn’t seem like the cause was an insect, it seemed like the cause was nothing at all.
Putting it out of her mind just caused her to suffer unnecessarily. Panne tried. It was juvenile to be bothered by the urge to scratch mindlessly so she tried to focus on the here and now. Though there wasn’t much to look at or focus on, the Shepherds had paused their travels to make camp for the day so as to not push themselves unnecessarily.
So, from what little there was, Panne tried to distract herself by getting to know this area. The feel of the wind on her skin, how it skimmed her surroundings and their sandy bushland. The clear skies and the wiry trees, the coarse dirt underfoot.
   Maybe that was the problem.
She was too used to more cushioned dirt. Perhaps it was cleaner because it had been tilled and tilled again by farmers, cared for lovingly in pursuit of agriculture: even if it ate up the natural environment that should have belonged to animals. Maybe it was this unrefined dirt that was irritating her but no.
Panne put that aside, too, in her trivial pursuit of this itch that all but roamed over her body. The fact it was on the move, to her, implied that it wasn’t some granule lodged into her and causing the urge to scratch. It was across her back, down her legs, in her shoulders. It was all over the place and it annoyed her.
There was nothing else to do but to be bothered by it. Maybe the itch was a response to the boredom, giving Panne something to do and chase and intellectualize in the middle of nowhere. Anything was better than boredom, after all. Even an itch, it seemed.
So, Panne gave up. If she couldn’t distract herself, mind over matter, then she would simply throw herself into everything she could do to satisfy the urge. Nevermind that it might reflect poorly on her if caught.
Appearances were something Panne worried about somewhat. She felt she had a facade to maintain and a reputation to keep. Someone who was strong, tough, not to be trifled with: she was not some silly little bunny rabbit that could be underestimated. She did not want to be dehumanised, seen as a mindless animal.
She was proud of her kin, of being a Taugel but that pride had a double edge to it. One she had been cut on before by humans of cruel intentions and terrible standing. The Shepherds had no such human person in their ranks, thus far that Panne had investigated but deep down in her hardened heart, she knew she couldn’t be too careful. Loose lips and all that, if nothing else.
So now Panne had a new problem. How was she meant to satisfy herself?
In her humanish form, she realised that there were limits to how limber she was. She couldn’t quite reach no matter how she contorted. Though, that was reliant on the sensation being on her back, she was able to nullify it somewhat when the tingle ran down her arms but that was fleeting. It didn’t provide anywhere near enough to fully rid her of this irritation.
Transformation it was then. Though, that only served to intensify the feeling of the itch. It ingrained further into her skin, into her muscle, even. Ugh, it was a prickly and annoying feeling that plagued her so Panne all but tied herself in knots trying to chase it.
Upside down, in the ground, rolling around. Panne tried and tried again with her hindlegs, trying to get to the source of the itch with her claws but again. There were limits to her limberness. Prior to today, Panne had not realised there was. Never before had she been bested by something so trivial as an itch. Is this how domestic rabbits felt? The poor diddums, honestly, they were so small and compact and defenceless, Panne pitied them as she went back to basics.
If she could not reach her itch, then she would have to externalise it. Use tools, use her environment. Surely that would help.
   Nope, not at all.
It was a shame that the environment was not conducive to her giving up. The dirt, as aforementioned, was no good for rolling around it. It just made her fur worse and the granules were sharp or clunky. That felt bad on her skin too. The trees were too thin and wiry to properly rub up against, their branches too fragile if Panne got too rough. She had tried and was quick to learn the error, even though they were annoying to roll around on. The leaves tickled her and ergo provided no relief at all.
All Panne could do was give up. Well and truly. She succumbed. She had been bested by an itch. Something so stupid and unimportant. She flopped over and watched the skies. She watched clouds drift by and felt the wind on her whiskers.
She still felt that damned by the gods itch in the middle of her back. She could have screamed. Perhaps she would have if someone hadn’t come along.
Her view of the world reduced dramatically as a silhouette of a petite woman took it all up. Nowi. She grinned as she enjoyed being all Panne could see from down here.
“Am I upside down or right way up to you from down there?” she asked as she waved hello.
Nowi was a peculiar little girl-thing. The reason that Panne could not call the persons of the Shepherds “human” exclusively as just like her, Nowi was not a human. She was a Manaketee and as such, had elfin ears on the side of her head and pointed fangs in her mouth. Her fingers even seemed sharpened with claws, too, the translucence of them turned a glint of sunlight as she gestured.
   “Upside down.” Panne replied, growly.
“Ooh, fun, I want to play this game too.” Nowi replied.
Nowi’s voice was bright and chirpy. Her cadence all but cacophonic to Panne’s sensitive lop ears. Her cheer and joy was extremely youthful despite her age, Panne noted. Everything was a game to Nowi. It helped tramped down on her tragedy, she supposed.
Panne had heard along the grapevine that Nowi had been rescued from the hands of slavers and traffickers. How terrible. No wonder she clung to what happiness that she could have possibly eked out from such a downtrodden prior existence. To say nothing of her separation of her kin, though there were more dragons out there… What were they like? Were they family or were they strangers?
Those sorts of questions must weigh on her mind, Panne would surmise from such secondhand information. So, she fled from such heaviness and embraced what she could of the light and fluffy. They all had their coping mechanisms, though Panne did find Nowi’s bizarre.
“This is not a game.” Panne informed her, annoyance at the edge of her voice. She didn’t want to take her problems out on Nowi. Especially if they were so small and unimportant: though they had bested her.
“Really?” Nowi blinked, she tilted her head and her greenish-blonde curls went tumbling, “But I guess that makes sense. You don’t normally play games. Then what are you doing?”
Panne bit her tongue. Did she reveal her non-issue or did she remain guarded? It was so embarrassing either way.
“Ehh? Cat got your tongue.” Nowi teased. “I’ll just tickle it out of you then.”
   “H-Huh? What?” Panne sputtered.
But Nowi beat her to it.
She reached out and gave her best gitchie-gitchie-goo to Panne’s chin and… and… and it felt so good!
Panne melted into the touch of Nowi’s fingertips. Her claws were just right, the perfect amount of sharpness and she was so dexterous, too. Her fingers a harmony of motions, riffling through the fur on Panne’s chin and it was all but miraculous. The feeling of the itch went away.
Nowi laughed, “I’ve never seen you make such a cute face before, Panne. Wow, I never would have guessed it but… your fur isn’t soft at all, haha!”
   “Ah-ahem.” Panne cleared her voice.
Though, all Panne wanted was for Nowi to stop touching her, some unintentional sternness snuck into her tone. She felt a pang of annoyance. Her fur? Not soft at all? Highly unlikely, she dust-bathed frequently and all but glowed when the sun hit her right.
Huffy, Panne sprang up and rolled over. Nowi scampered back, a little surprised by the sudden and swift movements but not afraid. Her hands cowered together as she was spooked by the seriousness of Panne’s voice, also. Panne landed on all fours, akin to a cat, and shook out her body. Her spine twitched and that caused a ripple through her fur. Her tail wagged and she flexed her paws. She came down low and admitted her problem.
“Whilst I do not appreciate being touched without permission-”
   “Ah! Sorry!” Nowi squeaked, guilty.
“I will make an exception in this instance.” Panne replied through the interruption.
   “Really? O-Okay, then.” Nowi said.
“You seem to have… a gift, a magic touch, if you will.” Panne tried to sound eerie and mysterious but such intention was cumbersome in her genuine appreciation of Nowi’s scratching. “I have been troubled by a perplexing itch so, would you mind…?”
Perhaps if it had been anyone but Nowi, Panne might have put up more of a fight. Scolded harder, admonished more but she was lenient with the Manaketee girl. They were kindred spirits in a way, two non-humans adrift in a world not made for them but they would make an odd pairing when it came to companionship but Panne would allow it just this once.
She trusted Nowi - or was at least willing to.
“Wow… I’ve never been told I’ve had a magic touch before.” Nowi marvelled at the praise. “But if it means I can help you, then please, will you let me?”
“You have my blessing.” Panne replied.
“Yippee! I’ll do my best, then!” Nowi cheered.
Panne smiled a rabbit smile. Not that Nowi could tell. She settled on her hackles, put herself in a position which resembled a loaf of bread and allowed Nowi to clamber all over her. Nowi was enthusiastic to say the least as she spread that “magic touch” all over and Panne couldn’t believe it. Nowi was better than a cure, she was more like a panacea.
Panne was in bliss as she enjoyed Nowi’s hands tremendously. She trailed her claws through the rows of Panne’s fur, she paid attention to those kooky nooks and crannies that were hard to reach. All whilst giggling ever so cutely which Panne didn’t mind. Her joy was contagious and Panne knew, deep down, she could use more of that from time to time.
Still, there was a conclusion that Panne was drawing from how Nowi scratched these bothersome itches of hers. There was no doubt in Panne’s mind that Nowi’s skill came from a place of empathy. Her scales must get irritated from time to time too, Panne predicted. A human could not deliver this level of massage, Panne was certain - or more likely assumed.
“Oh… Nowi… This is wonderful, thank you.” Panne murmured.
“My pleasure, Panne!” Nowi smiled as she flopped down beside Panne at the end of it all. “Are you feeling better?”
   “Much better.” Panne sighed, contentedly.
“I’m glad.” Nowi replied and she leaned into Panne’s fur, smelling it deeply whilst she rested. “I… I hope you can rely on me in the future then. Whether it's for things like this or in battle. I actually admire you so much, Panne, but you're usually so intimidating. I’ve seen a very different side of you today. Thank you.” Her confession took on a more mature tone as she expressed this long-held feeling of hers.
“I could say the same thing about you.” Panne said.
   “R-Really?” Nowi squeaked.
“Yes, I didn’t know how to contact you. You seem in your own little world and I didn’t want to ruin that for you but I realise now, I think we have more in common than I first assumed.” Panne revealed.
“I’m glad, I hope I can be your friend for a long time then.” Nowi smiled.
She snuggled into Panne’s fur and Panne let her. Nowi weighed all but weighed the same as feather, honestly, and so Panne had to concentrate on her form. How she kneaded Panne’s fur, held onto her as though she were a security blanket. It was sweet. So Panne settled down as well, her nose between her paws, for an afternoon nap with Nowi.
Though for Panne, such closeness with someone outside of her species seemed almost taboo. For the longest time, she had been so alone and her body still yearned for the closeness of a familial warren but this was a kindhearted alternative. For Nowi’s sake and not just her own, Panne wanted to be more than “friends” with the eccentric Manaketee. She wanted them to be the very kindred spirits that she had sensed in Nowi and been correct in her instinct of.

i love panne & libra's s support so much. this little interaction between them before libra proposes shows a lot about how spending time around each other has helped them grow as people a little bit. such as how panne simply takes libra's ring and waits for him to speak, showing that he has taught her a little bit of patience, and how libra almost seems to be sassing her here, which he must have learned from her. very cute, 10/10, they are so married already <3

Um clearly if FEA doesn't have that mechanic we need to think about it ourselves. Obviously anyone noble can't cook worth a dang, so I think we can safely sort Virion into the lower tiers. Can you see him cooking I can't. I think Chrom can cook campfire food, probably, and I think Frederick can cook...? Cherche seems self-sufficient enough... and I have no justification for this but I feel like Maribelle could girlboss her way into a good meal, if not a GREAT one. IDK why. I just feel it. In my bones.
Okay, we actually do have SOME information about who can and (more often) CAN'T cook from supports. Let's see what I can remember/find reasonably quickly.
Chrom sucks at cooking. In his A support with Vaike he makes goulash so bad that Vaike falls off his chair and goes unconscious. (Chrom then declares himself winner by knockout. I love him.) Also, his Dragalia Lost appearance had him saying "I'm useless as a chef. Even among my family, my cooking's reputation is less than stellar." This seems to imply that Emmeryn and Lissa (maybe Lucina and Owain, too?) are also not great at cooking, but that Chrom is particularly awful.
Sumia's food CAN turn out amazing, but she's pretty bad at the actual process. Chrom thinks her rhubarb pie is the best he's ever had, even though he normally hates rhubarb, but it took her 15 tries to get it right. Similarly, Gaius loves the honey cake she makes him in their S support, but then she admits it took her 23 tries. So... her heavenly cooking comes with a high price, apparently.
Sully is bad at cooking. "Yeah, maybe I can't cook, or clean, and I burn all the laundry" (per her S support with Chrom), but it's also brought up in Kjelle's supports with her father. Yeah, turns out Kjelle can't cook, either.
And actually, Kjelle's supports with her father actually do indicate something about the cooking skills of her potential fathers... See, most of them just get a line about giving her some pointers... EXCEPT for Chrom and Robin, who get an additional line of "I'm no whiz in the kitchen, but I've made my fair share of campfire breakfasts." So presumably, most of the guys in the Shepherds at least decent at cooking. Chrom "winner by knockout" Ylisse and Robin "I've only poisoned myself twice" Reflet are outliers.
Because speaking of Robin, yeah... "I've only poisoned myself twice" is from Donnel's supports, but we also see from Panne's supports that she is the only one willing to touch Robin's carrot stew. (Taguel notably have a different diet than humans do, and eat things like firefruit, which causes human skin to "blister and itch for days on end" according to her supports with Stahl.) In the Nowi/Robin supports, Frederick instructs Robin with field cooking (so we can probably assume Frederick is good at at least that sort of thing), and Robin and Nowi end up making something together that appears unappetizing but apparently tastes pretty good... but, um... Well... Nowi's a manakete, and Robin has fell dragon power even in their human body, so... Mm... Nah likes Robin's cooking, too (although to be fair, she was used to eating bitter leaves and plant roots in the bad timeline). Forgive me if I suspect it might be another Panne situation? F!Robin's C support with Severa does show her getting a good result, but Robin also says that her cooking usually turns out "tasting like mud... Or burned mud." Severa gets mad at what she sees as false modesty, but... Severa IS Severa, and also I don't think ANY of the future children were eating gourmet under Grima's reign, so... I'm inclined to think Robin's cooking is decent at its absolute best, on an exceptionally lucky day.
Now, let me go back to the Stahl/Panne supports for a second, because I think that Stahl is likely pretty good at cooking. Fitting for a guy who loves eating, right? Although it's a little weird, because I'm pretty sure they added that as his gimmick at the last second. If you read all his supports, eating is never really brought up, and in fact his gimmick appears instead to be... being so average that it's remarkable. If that's the case, perhaps his meals are also average when you look at the whole camp? But in his supports with Panne he specifically brings her a special dinner because Lissa was making "some kind of weird stew" (another point in favor of her not cooking well? although compare Tharja's line in her C support with Lon'qu about Lissa maybe making more little honey cakes for the war council she's hosting. Maybe Lissa is better at baking generally, or maybe she's better when it comes to sweets specifically?). Now, the cottage cheese and squid dish Stahl brings Panne doesn't sound, uh, super great for humans... but the "carrot dumpling wrapped in a flaky pastry crust" sounds pretty delicious and I kind of want one, too...
Severa claims that she burns everything she tries to cook in her supports with her father, but that's probably just her insecurity flaring up (she goes on to say she must be a disappointment compared to her mother... and yeah, I'm sure Cordelia's cooking is as excellent as her reputation for perfection would suggest). But in her supports with M!Morgan, she manages to cook a pretty good stew. Morgan's only complaint is that it tastes like she was just going through the motions with it, not really putting any feeling into her cooking. But hey, compared to SOME of the Shepherds, I think she's doing an amazing job! Morgan even asks for seconds! (Also, if she S supports Morgan then she makes the same stew and Morgan raves about it. Clearly, Severa putting her love into her cooking makes it outstanding).
... Okay so that's all I've got off the top of my head (I say as if I didn't already spend hours looking up supports...) but if anyone has anything else to add let me know. I'm too tired to read the full support list for every single character right now.
