it's his birthday ;) for this one, i decided to do things differently and work on the values before doing the colors. honestly... i don't like painting this way xD but maybe i just haven't found the right workflow so i'll try again some other time.

Princes of Brodia: Diamant and Alcryst

We need a Brave Alcryst that reminds people that he's more than a wet cat

My opinion might be skewed because of the first supports of him I got, but I've never really seen him as that much of the sad wet cat prince everyone talks about. This is the same prince who was willing to strike down his father so Diamant wouldn't have to suffer the burden. He sweetly comforts Céline when he learns that she suffers from nightmares. He's outright hostile to Ivy for her role in Morion's death. He actively returns the support he receives from Lapis and Citrinne back to them

Despite his issues, Alcryst has his own kind of strength that he's always willing to use when he needs to

FE Engage redesign series: Lapis, Alcryst and Citrinne

Design notes:

For Lapis I wanted to show in her design that she's a village girl; and that even tho she tries to hide it, people can usually tell pretty quickly.

Also, Lapis' are blue, so I made her blue🤷🏻

Honestly, the Brodia brothers have some of the best designs in the game! I don't actually think Alcryst needed much changing, but I still wanted to give him my own spin!

Since he's an archer, I went a little lighter on the armor. I also tried making him look a bit more lanky with slumped shoulders; then the change to his promoted class, which is more bulky and stable, will be more drastic to show his character growth!

I wanted to bedazzle Citrinne a little more to emphasize her wealth and family business. But she's also fun and playful, so I made her design more asymmetrical as well!

what i like the most about alcryst's casual clothes is how ridiculously big they look on him, so that's what i tried to capture here 🙃

Alear and Alcryst take a break from the Divine Dragon Monarch's coronation ceremony in Lythos Castle. They spend a moment dancing together outside, away from the crowd.

The original idea was to have the scene set at night, in the moonlight. That's what the second version is about.

I feel like there's something important about Alcryst that most people miss

While there are moments when Alcryst is out of his comfort zone, every time that's happened, it's Alcryst's choice

His supports with Boucheron and Hortensia revolve around Alcryst's low self-esteem and are initiated by Alcryst himself. He reaches out to them first for support. Even his support with Pandreo, which has him way out of his comfort zone, clearly states that he chose to be there. No one forced him

For all the memes about Alcryst being a sad wet cat, he still has full agency as a person. No one forces him to improve himself based on their standards. He is never forcibly dragged out to be fixed. Every time Alcryst is working to better himself, it is an active decision he has made for himself

In general, Alcryst's problems are treated as something that he is allowed to address his own way and everyone else supports him based on his decisions without imposing their own on him against his will
