f’dryx’s purpose?

narratively, f’dryx’s role in the story is as a fallen hero (go figure. i seem to love those). he doesn’t really start off as a hero tho ngl. he kinda just starts off as an idiot lol

he was a regular guy who ended up in the wrong situation. unlike alan or evan, who fit more of the “chosen one” category, f’dryx could have been anyone. he wasn’t fated for this. he wasn’t described in a prophecy. he wasn’t born for this role, neither was he special. he was just your average drunken fool who made mistakes and lives life. i think that’s what i like about his story the most.

in every way, f’dryx was unspecial. that’s what makes his descent as probably one of the worst villains in elayza since hilbert so iconic to me. he was a regular joe who got mixed up with the wrong people, got tested too far, and reverted back to his animalistic desire to survive. THATS why he ends up getting “chosen” later on. not immediately. not fated for it. lemme see if i can find the drafted scene where it’s described to him on “why me?” (why him?)

you say you [redacted] yourself out, f’dryx, but that is what i loved about you. you degraded yourself, accepted absolute humiliation, tore your soul and esteem apart and stomped it into the dirt, all for a chance to survive. you sold your dignity to survive. and you don’t even know why you wanted to! you don’t even want to survive! you don’t even want to live! you accepted that you had no purpose and yet you still fought to keep your meaningless life! that sacrifice… that self sacrifice… that mindless drive to live… i wanted it. i needed it. and now, i have it. because now i have you. you are mine, f’dryx. we are bound by eternity.  - CoE [DRAFT], P

bro is creative and ingenious with his ideas. he often slips out of sticky situations not because he had the skills or talent to, but because he deliberates all his options. and above all—he is a survivalist. nothing is below him if it means he survives. hence the resilient thing.

the drunk is because bro is a full on drunk holy shit. i’m talking, he got lost at sea and he started having withdrawals type of alcoholic. it’s a problem. 💀

let's get into the questions portion of the ask.

(1) what is his dream home:

i think anywhere where he is surrounded by family who loves him would be his first answer but then, if you insisted he answer properly with a legit house, he'd describe the mountains of ividor, where the coastline of kehm's heavenly waters (the iconic beach where that one evan-faer scene happens oop-) and hellash's base lies on the other side. it's surrounded by lush forests (the non-cannibalistic kind) and has a river that travels up the mountain and down the other side. aqueducts bridge the water from the mountain to soilaila, so tall structures tower over the entire lands in a romantic architecture that adds to the city rather than takes away from its natural beauty. and, of course, the prayer's peak where he rides up to every morning and watches the sunrise would be his favourite place to rest, which lies nearby the cave of glowing crystals as rare and sparkly as glittering stars.

that's not where he ends up living though lmao L

(2) would he prefer to live in peace? please give him some peace...

LMAO OF COURSE. that's all he wants. in terms of where evan actually ends up living and what his life post-lotf series looks like, you'll be happy to know he lives at "the heavenly crossroads" in a place you guys don't know about yet, where "the golden palace" is also called "the healer's palace", aka the home of khos ja evan-yozar.

and oh my GOD it's beautiful. literally, stunningly gorgeous. you only find out about this place when fdryx ends up getting hospitalized there, and as he roams the halls during golden hour, he realized why they call evan's home the crossroads of manyar itself.

so yes, he gets peace. takes him a while, but he gets there eventually. evan is probably one of my only ocs who lives happily ever after (oops).

(3) who is his favourite person and who does he dislike the most?

his favourite person would be noctem, his manny/his family, or bimyllis, who is like a motherly figure to him. his least favourite person is probably sebastian (lmao L).

(4) can i give him pie? what's his favourite dessert?

well... see... that's complicated lmao.

for the first 5 years of evan's life, he would have answered with fruits, specifically the kespian berries that they give him on a platter during the summer (i think the scene where he canonically eats them while lounging is actually a deleted scene now womp womp). and post-lotf series, he would probably answer with kespian berries again, but this time drizzled in broopasha syrup and alongside sliced up oranges.

HOWEVER...

if we're talking about the majority of evan's series? bro hates food. can't stand it. refuses to eat. to the point where he tries to learn how to photosynthesize to avoid consuming anything edible. he literally despises eating.

(5) what's his spirit animal?

my immediate answer was hawk. i don't know why. he has a pet hawk--maybe that's why. his pet hawk is animated fire, so it sleeps in a torch and has no flesh, bones, or organs. he's just fire.

yeah, that was kinda wild. i feel like no one canonically appreciates f'dryx enough for that endeavour. bro had GRIT and WILLPOWER and he made it WORK.

a lot changes from the first scene to the last. for starts, bro is sober now. his first appearance, he was a bumbling failed artist and a complete drunk. a fool, essentially. a womanizer, purposeless, and drowning in debt. bro's only skillset was his witty sharp tongue, his ability to flirt, and his sketching abilities + a knickknack for inventing things. he isn't a failed artist in the sense of being bad at art. he's failed in the sense of soilaila's unreal standards when it comes to artisians from that family. they expect you to have the hands of the gods themselves capable of crafting life from your touch. bro was not that. so he took a societal L

that beING SAID... his last appearance?

utterly devastated and scrapped out hollow. broken mind and with so much blood on his hands, he doesn't even know if he can count anymore. the entire world hates him. even the gods fear him. and he's on evan's hitlist and under his mentorship simultaneously (somehow). also? bro went from failed artist to master of the arcane.

Why did Evan have to heal Fdryx?

long story short: bro got stabbed 47 times and it injured quite a few organs and magical networks, which messed up quite a bit of his health and magical abilities. so evan's purpose in f'dryx's story is to help him revive his ability to perform stable magic and to heal all the injuries he sustained.

day seven of tcw's 12 days of askmas--evan's OPINION on the discovery [soc and lotf spoilers]:

oof. i just made a deal with ilia so my answers might be shorter from now on because i am desperate to write LMAO

in terms of evan's opinions of the god's using him as a pawn and manipulating his entire life, the anwser might shock you, but he kinda goes, "ah. that makes sense."

because the actions of his parents never made any sense to him prior to that explanation. in a way, it's almost a relief to realize they didn't just hate him. you have to remember, everything about evan's childhood convinced him his parents didn't love him (lmao L). so when he discovers that, oh the gods really were just messing with them, just like they (his parents) said they were, it's almost a sigh of relief.

that being said, bro has to deal with the gods for the rest of his life now. just because he's confronted them about their manipulation, it doesn't mean he's free from it. he just has authority to challenge them on it and tell them to back tf off.

i'll give you a little teaser easter egg--evan's cameo in fdryx's story shows you the reality of his opinion on the matter more than the conclusion of his own books. because in his own conclusion, all he felt was shock and understanding. but in fdryx's series, when he is discussing the zaverena with him, he confesses the depth of his feelings on the matter.

"no one is ever going to understand you like i do, f'dryx. what it feels like to have some scrape you out of your own body and make you a puppet for their own intentions. no one is ever going to know the pain of being used by the gods. and wow... i never wanted to have someone to bond over this with. the feeling was lonely, but i never wanted someone else to understand. but you do, and you get it. so just know, i get it too."

If Evan was given the chance to go through time and change just one event without consequences what would it be and how would it affect the story?

OH! OH MY DAYS--

no yambling! straight headcanon!

day seven of tcw's 12 days of askmas--the what-ifs of evan's life [lotf series spoilers]:

it depends on what stage of life evan is in // what book we're talking about.

evan from cos to gotn would change the entire origin of the tc arc. he would have listened to alan when he had told him not to go outside that night. he would have never gone on that midnight flight, and as a result, the entire tc arc would have never happened. obviously, the entire plot of the series would not happen as a result, except i'm sure the gods would find some other way to meddle and mess things up.

but if we're talking about eoj and specifically mott? i think the way he handled the AK investigation, or the entire altercation with X and XX. he would have changed that entire ordeal so the AK case wouldn't have had so many casualties.

but then if we're talking about post mott? soc to lotf (the last book)? i think he would have gone back to the moment he decided to enter the battlefield in that way, and prevented that one death. because of all the people evan has lost in his life, that death was the most visceral. it haunts him all the way until fdryx's series bro.

but then, if we're talking about fdryx's series, i think he'd have prevented fdryx from leaving his palace. also, the same thing with the death thing from the last point. but also, i think he would have prevented the gamble he made with that one god. the price was too high, and he realized too late.

loft series (evan’s series): XXXXX goddess and yozar. there are other antagonists as well, but i think these two take the cake. the goddess is motivated by spite and wrath, and yozar is motivated by anger and pride.

coe (f’dryx’s series): telgin and morohav. telgin is motivated by his desire for authority, divinity, and timelessness, and morohav is motivated by chaos.

tis: naliya, the one, and shadow. naliya is motivated by paranoia. the one is motivated by wisdom. and shadow is motivated by power and justice.
