It had been weeks since he’d begun to visit the her home every afternoon. Prometheus had surprised Nettelia with a bowl full of leeches for her to use, which made her far too excited and the disgusting retrieval very much worth it. They’d started with fixing her roof, but he’d figured she could improve the size of her herbal storage and her table was creaky. Then it was building her a well. Then it was walking the forests near her home for all her herbs and her favorites fruits and vegetables; she’d show him and name each of the animals that they passed. He’d eventually surprised Nettelia by telling her that the specific herbs she sought for could be found in greater quantities elsewhere. And when she’d argued that they were nowhere near where they grew in abundance, he had lifted her up and startled the poor woman by bringing them both there in less than 3 minutes. Everyday Prometheus woke up thinking about her, and every night he fell asleep with her face and her voice in mind. That musical laughter in his memory made the avariel smile to himself at the most inopportune times when he was meant to be listening carefully to the Gods who were making their demands to him.

“It’s called a pegasus,” Prometheus piped up, hoping to startle her just a little bit. He’d been silently standing to one side, leaning up against one of her trees as Nettelia stepped outside her home and was met with surprising creature grazing calmly just a few feet from her door. “Stole it from Epimetheus this morning. Oztalun’s probably currently letting out herds of them, but... I figured you’d want to be one of the first to see one.”

My partner brought up something so fucking real after watching Fantastic Beasts 2 with me:

"For being such a feminist JKR sure did write a movie about men, where all the women obsess over the men."

He is so fucking right. Women in HP have a variety of distinct lives outside of men. In FB they rarely do anything of worth. Three of five women in FB2 thirst after Newt as a primary character trait. The other two are Queenie, who is unhinged about her to-be-husband - and Nagini, who is only there to be Credence's friend.

How did the author do that? Why did she do that...?

icl if Theseus had died in FB4 it would have pissed me off. because wdym credence died in FB1 (so sad for newt), leta died in FB2 (so sad for newt), the qilin and credence died in FB3 (so sad for newt), and then theseus I am sure was set to die in FB4 (so sad for newt, I guess???). could we see something more fun and exciting please (if theseus dies i will eat me leg)

Нда... И сидов всего ничего. Но если скачаю то этой библиотеки мне должно хватить. Более чем полностью. Не знаю сколько в ней книг. Это почищенная от повторов и всякоразного- копия флибусты в fb2. Можно конечно и флибусту выкачать. Но на данный момент она весит 1,5 Тб. И у меня нет денег купить жёсткий диск.

Проверка на бессмертие

По совету @ich-liebe-d1ch (за что ей большущее спасибо ❤️) прочитал книгу от автора под псевдонимом «Мэй». И это оказался тот самый трушный неоновый киберпанк, аккуратно прописанный во всех законах и канонах жанра.

Действие книги разворачивается в Гонконге в далеком (нет, уже не очень на самом деле) будущем. Тут есть хакеры, мегакорпорации, триады, импланты, ИИ и соответствующие этому набору естественные, бытовые, моральные и этические проблемы. Если вы знакомы с жанром, то не увидите тут совершенно ничего нового, но для хорошей истории важно скорее не испортить и красиво подать «старое», а тут с этим всё в порядке.

У меня осталась пара вопросов к сюжету, но в целом написано достойно, читается легко и главное охотно верится, что так вполне могло бы произойти. И это очень радует, потому что по сути литературы в этом жанре не то чтобы много, и хотелось бы ещё!

Книга изначально выпущена как самиздат на электронных площадках, я её нашел в fb2 и там было непростительно много ошибок в окончаниях слов. Но, как я понимаю, её собирается издавать Эксмо и там это досадное недоразумение не могут не исправить.

Сам факт официального издания это очень круто, рад за автора и мне в душе хотелось бы продолжения, несмотря на то, что история законченная и оно как будто бы не требуется. Но герои понравились и я с удовольствием почитал бы о новых приключениях.

Musings on the blood troth's fight or flight

aka me rewatching the FB2, FB3 while folding laundry

I wanna read deeper regarding the blood troth , blood pact created by Albus & Gellert. Atm I know so little about what has been offered in the movies. And it hurts my brain and wallet.

I have so many questions about the implications of the blood troth's "defense mechanism" ( 'sensing the betrayal' of the other party of the magic oath and choking the life out of them)

What are its limitations with the given definition by Albus? How sentient must it be to discern the right amount of thought to be considered as betrayal? The right amount of physical force needed to 'reinforce'(?) or remind the party member about the terms of their blood magical oath.

Because if every couple had an intense argument that subjected their version of the troth to the breaking point, it would defeat the purpose of making the magical binding and keeping your partner alive til death do you part. Divorce would be cheaper.

What's to say this is another version of the Unbreakable vow? But stronger and more intimate? Considering you wouldn't need a 3rd party presence for a Blood pact from what we've seen so far. Unless Abeforth's goats were there somewhere.

Is it less deadlier because the blood troth doesn't truly snuff out the other party's life if he/she doesn't go through their agreed terms of the contract/marriage?

And what of its advantages? I think when those two starry eyed young teens created the blood pact, it had more implications to strengthen their bond. Perhaps a shared strength of magic? Up to what extent though? If the blood pact had been flawless til the end what would've been the other wonders it bestows the two lovers?

Or what curse? (*Insert suspense sfx*)

This is giving corkboard level of research and I have my final requirement deadlines ahead-

The rain pounded against the windows of Nurmengard, slow and relentless, as if trying to wash away what could never be purified. High up in the fortress, surrounded by shadows and dangerous promises, Queenie Goldstein wondered, for the thousandth time, at what moment her life had taken this turn.

She should have been by Jacob’s side.

She should have been home, listening to Tina’s firm voice telling her that everything would be all right, even when nothing suggested it would be. She should have been anywhere but this cold castle, where every corridor seemed to breathe secrets, where every step echoed like a warning that there was no way out.

But she chose this.

That was the lie she told herself in those first days, as she tried to ignore the tightness in her chest, the constant feeling of having taken a step she could never undo. Because if she admitted, even for a second, that maybe there had been no choice, that maybe she had only been pushed into this by desperation and empty promises, then everything would crumble.

Grindelwald had welcomed her, but Nurmengard had never been hers.

And yet, there was something there that made sense. A barely perceptible detail, like a whisper in the midst of the storm.

Or perhaps, like a pair of dark eyes that seemed to see her better than anyone ever had.

Vinda Rosier.

Her name was a sweet poison, a danger Queenie couldn’t avoid. Vinda was always there, in the wrong moments, looking at her in a way that burned, that provoked. They didn’t speak much, but the game had already begun before either of them even realized it.

Perhaps, Queenie thought, the problem had never been Nurmengard.

Perhaps the problem was the hunger growing inside her.

A hunger for something new. Something wrong. Something that, if she wasn’t careful, would end up consuming her completely.
