[#𝔽𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟_ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕤] 👇🏻 __________________________________________ 📚: The Way I Used To Be. 👩🏻💼: @ambersmithauthor . ⭐️: 4.5/5 🛒: Carousell ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ REVIEW: Trauma is not something you should take for granted. I’ve read so many books, watched so many films about how trauma can affect people’s life if they didn’t get the help needed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The first scene in this book is very intense. Told in four parts – freshman, sophomore, junior and senior year – this extraordinary debut novel shares the unforgettable story of a young woman as she struggles to find strength in the aftermath of an assault. It reveals the deep cuts of trauma but at the same time demonstrates the strength as she navigates the disappointment and unbearable pains of growing up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There were times, when reading this book where I found myself aching for the MC and at the same time frustrated with the way she treated other people around her and how she has caused so many problems for herself that don’t need to exist in the first place. But I knew that it was just an expression of trauma and praise to the author for the well written plot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s an important addition for every collection. _ #TheWayIUsedToBe #AmberSmith #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bibliophile #YAContemporary #bookishfeatures #mybookishfeatures #Fatin_Reads https://www.instagram.com/p/Br-N2gqnB4A/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wcgdobaiplot

[#Fatin_Reads] 👇🏻 __________________________________________ 📚: Love, Hate & Other Filters 👩🏻💻: Samira Ahmed ⭐️: 4/5 🛒: @bookdepository _ Mixed thoughts about this book but if I’m being honest I think it’s just an OK book. Let’s talk what I love about this book: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I’m scared. I’m not just scared that somehow I’ll be next; it’s quieter fear and more insidious. I’m scared of the next Muslim ban. I’m scared of my dad getting pulled into Secondary Security Screening at the airport for “random questioning”. I’m scared for the hijabi girls I know getting their scarves pulled off while they’re walking down a sidewalk – or worse. I’m scared of being the object of fear and loathing and suspicion again. Always “.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Islamophobia is not a joke. The MC has to suffer from racial discrimination after a terrorist attack occurs in the US. I think the author did a good job in discussing Islamophobia in this book as it can help the readers to understand how challenging is living as a Muslim in a world which they are often seen as an “object of fear and loathing and suspicion”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • I love how amazing the female friendship between Maya and Violet were portrayed in this book. Totally in love with Violet character – who is always there for Maya. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Moving on to the parts that kinda turned me off: • This book is known as Muslim Rep but I don’t see how it can be related. The MC never acknowledges her beliefs in God and never even practices the religion. It’s like her religion is some kind of burden to her life and simply just a label. I just don’t like how the author tried to normalize certain “behavior” that is totally forbidden in Islam. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Overall, if you want to know about Islam or Muslim rep, I think this book is not for you but if you’re looking more about the harsh blame of terrorism on Muslims – this book is definitely worth a try. _ #lovehateandotherfilters #ownvoices #samiraahmed #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature

[#Fatin_Reads] 👇🏻 __________________________________________ 👩🏻💻: R.J Palacio 📚: W O N D E R ⭐️: 5/5 📚: Auggie & Me ⭐️: 4.5/5 🎥: 5/5 🛒: Carousell _ “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind” _ W O N D E R : The universe hasn’t been kind to Auggie Pullman — a kid that was born with a facial difference that prevented him from going to school. Now that he’s ten years old, his parents decide it’s time for him to go to school. If you’ve ever been the new kid, then you know how hard it can be and for Auggie — it means that a lot of people will stare at him. I think W O N D E R is a must read book for every kid, teenager and adult in the world — really great story about bullying and what it’s like to be different in the mean world of middle school. . . Auggie and Me — the companion novel to W O N D E R. Although it didn’t really WOW me like W O N D E R did, but I still enjoyed it 😀 Highly recommend these two books!! _ #wonderbook #auggieandme #rjpalacio #auggiepullman #middlegradebooks #bekind #choosekind

[#Fatin_Reads] 👇🏻 __________________________________________ 📚: Princess More Tears to Cry 👩🏻💻: Jean Sasson ⭐️: 4.5/5 🛒: Carousell _ Princess More Tears to Cry is a powerful book dealing with oppression. It starts out with a heartfelt dedication to a young girl named Amal — a tiny little girl who only knew fear and terror at the hands of her brutal father, who raped her to death. Most shocking part when the monster claimed that he was a religious cleric and received hardly a slap on the wrist for his heinous crimes. . While I knew that women face a lot of challenges in the Middle East, I had no idea it was that bad in Saudi Arabia. This book highlights personal stories of triumph and heartbreak, as told to Princess ‘Sultana’ and author Jean Sasson. Each story offers a unique glimpse into different aspects of Saudi society, including the lives of the Princess and other members of royal family. _ #princessmoretearstocry #jeansasson #nonfiction #feminism

We get to say what goes and what stays, what matters and what doesn’t" _ This was a really cute contemporary book about friendship, family and romance. I liked it though I didn’t love it because I found the method of storytelling a little bit slow and hard to connect to but on the bright side, I’ve managed to finish it 😀 (So, it’s not that “that” bad.) _ #whendimplemetrishi #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bibliophile

Follow her many adventures in traveling, bad dates, hilarious hiccups and wake-up calls as she pursues the purpose of it all.
