Season 8: Closing shots of every episode
Corresponding Opening Shot Post: Season 8
NOTE: In this series, "closing shots" means "the cleanest full shot right before the fade to black effect happens," OR "the cleanest full shot right before the freeze frame." It's a pain in the ass to try to find it frame by frame... backwards. Why did I decide to do this?!?!?!

(an X-Files fanfic)
Chapter 6/34 - christmas lights
[Read on AO3]
Tumblr media
“You talked to Skinner, right?” Mulder asks, nervously turning his hastily-wrapped gift of a bottle of wine in his fidgeting hands.
It feels dangerous, as he walks up the driveway to Maggie Scully’s house. Scully walks beside him in her usual place. His hand lightly brushes against the small of her back with each forward step, his way of keeping her close when there are threats lurking in the shadows.
Threats Scully seems to be paying no mind to. Instead, her excitement is palpable.
He sees where she's coming from; Having a secret of this magnitude just between them is admittedly thrilling. He's just not sure it's worth the risk of ruining Christmas, though, but maybe that's just him.
“Of course I did,” she answers, charging ahead without a lick of apprehension. His brave little fiancée. “He'll call after lunch.”
“Just making sure,” he mumbles. “If he forgets, we’re gonna be stuck here all day.”
“Mulder…” She shoots him a look.
“Right, sorry. Sorry.”
Festive strands of lights, unlit in the daytime, adorn Mrs. Scully's bushes and trees in her front yard, their clear bulbs glinting in the sunlight. It's a sight to behold when the sun goes down, he's sure. Though he's hoping he won't be here long enough to find out.
“Dana!” a voice calls, and they look up to see the front door open slightly, with Mrs. Scully herself peeking out.
Mulder’s hand drops from Scully’s back.
“And Fox! I’m so happy you could make it! I hate the idea of you spending Christmas Eve all alone.”
Truth be told, he enjoys his quiet Christmases. Better than the ones he had before his parents split, in any case. The slight pity in her voice makes him uncomfortable, but he smiles anyway, playing the part he has to play. If this works out (and he's invited back for another Christmas), he takes solace in the fact that there will never again be a secret like this to keep. He might even enjoy himself next time.
“Well aren’t you two all dressed up,” Maggie says as they step over the threshold, taking in their appearances. “The rest of us are barely out of our pajamas!”
Mulder looks around as the entryway opens up into the living space. Bill and his family are seated on the couch, and another red-headed man sits adjacent to him on an overstuffed chair, raising a cup of coffee in welcome.
‘We come in peace,’ Mulder thinks.
He waves in greeting, giving a nod in Bill’s direction. The unflappable stare he receives in response is nothing less than he expected.
They really are overdressed. Everyone else is in a sweater of questionable taste or casual winter-wear. And here they are dressed like they’re going to court.
Which… they are.
Mulder loosens his collar at that thought, suddenly hyper-aware of the countless pairs of eyes fixed on him, as if he has the words ‘I'M ABOUT TO MARRY YOUR DAUGHTER/SISTER’ tattooed on his forehead.
Is he always this sweaty in this suit?
“Charlie, I didn’t know you were going to be here!” Scully says jovially as she sheds her coat. The red-haired man stands and makes his way over to them, wrapping Scully in a massive bear hug. It's an effective enough distraction to take the heat off Mulder, which he is certainly thankful for.
Up close, he can tell the man takes after Maggie more than Scully’s father in appearance, unlike the eldest Scully son. The red hair though, that's gotta be all Scully. His heart stutters at the thought of a red-headed baby, one they might have had if the IVF had worked. He pushes it back forcefully. He'd thought he was over that by now.
“This is my partner, Mulder,” Scully says, drawing his attention back to the present. She introduces them with a hand resting on her brother’s shoulder, gesturing up at her tall partner with a smile.
“Mulder, this is my younger brother, Charlie.”
Mulder nods and puts on a smile, hoping he might have a chance at getting on one Scully sibling’s good side.
“Heard a lot about you,” Charlie says, shaking Mulder’s outstretched hand. “From Dana, not Bill, don’t worry. She’s the only one I listen to,” he jokingly adds, and Mulder stiffly laughs, the tension easing just a bit.
He wonders what she tells her brother when they get a chance to talk. All good things, he hopes.
“You’re stationed in Japan, right?” Mulder asks, shoving his hands in his pockets. He’s not adept at making polite conversation, but he thinks it’s going okay so far.
“That’s right. Managed to get enough leave time to make the trip finally.”
“How long will you be in town?” Scully asks.
“Just until Tuesday. The Navy can’t be without me for too long or else the entire base falls apart.”
Bill pushes out a forced laugh at that and shakes his head in fond annoyance.
When a lull in the conversation presents itself, Mulder pulls Scully aside, ducking his head so that his whispers won't be overheard.
“We can postpone our plans,” he says into her ear, "I know you don't get to see your brother very often. I'll call Skinner and let him know.”
“No, Mulder, it's okay,” she says, reaching out and gripping his sleeve. “I'll see him tomorrow. I want to do this.”
His eyes study hers. “Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
Heaven help him.
“I'm blaming you if this gets me on another brother's bad side,” he warns.
“Charlie’s not like Bill. You'll be fine,” she says. “Talk to him about Japanese cryptids or something, he might actually be interested.”
Mulder laughs nervously. “That feels like a setup, Scully, but I'll take your word for it.”
-.-.-
Mulder has some success hiding in the corner with a freshly-poured cup of coffee while the others mingle, but of course his luck can only hold out for so long. It isn't long before Charlie spots him, tracing an unmistakable path across the room to intercept him before he can escape.
“So, Fox. Or is it Mulder?” he starts.
Mulder turns, accepting his fate. “Mulder’s fine,” he answers with a polite smile.
“What are you two up to?”
The taste of coffee goes bitter in his mouth, and it takes some effort not to go straight into a coughing fit. “What?” he asks, eyes seeking out Scully already, though she's nowhere to be seen.
“Work,” Charlie clarifies. “What kinds of stuff are you doing at work?”
“Oh, right.” Mulder drops the panic face, his shoulders relaxing. “Well, I'm sure you wouldn't be interested. Boring stuff, mostly.”
“I find that hard to believe based on what my sister’s told me.”
Yeah, but how much does he know? That’s the question.
“Uh. We had a fast food worker a little while ago that ate his victims brains.”
He’ll leave out a few details and let the man believe it was a simple case of cannibalism. He doesn’t exactly feel like talking about proboscises or shark mutants or mentioning the fact that the brains were completely removed from the victim’s skull right before a nice family lunch.
“Eugh,” Charlie makes the appropriate sound of disgust, “How'd you figure that one out?”
“You really don't want to know.”
The youngest Scully sibling seems to accept that answer, to Mulder’s relief.
“You guys certainly live interesting lives, don't you?” he says.
“You could say that,” Mulder says. “I think your brother would prefer if they were less interesting, though.”
Charlie rolls his eyes. “Don't listen to him, he's just mad Dana's not his helpless baby sister anymore. Which, mind you, she never was. She'd wipe the floor with him shooting targets with our beebee gun growing up.”
Now here’s a subject that really interests Mulder. “I believe that,” he says, smiling at the thought of Bill getting humiliated by a teeny tiny Scully. “Got a scar on my shoulder to prove it.”
“She shot you?” Charlie asks, his voice laced with equal measures of incredulity and fascination.
“Oh yeah. With the precision of a practiced medical professional.” He smiles proudly, which probably isn’t the usual affect of a person describing how a bullet tore through their body, but Mulder wears that scar like a medal of honor. “In her defense, I deserved it,” he continued, “I wasn't in my right mind at the time, and she had no other way to stop me.”
Charlie blows out an impressed breath, brows raised in wonderment. “Well, I'm glad you can laugh about it now,” he comments. “You know, Bill might enjoy that little tidbit. I think he thinks you've trapped her with your roguish handsomeness, or possibly voodoo.”
Mulder laughs, though somewhat uncomfortably. Sometimes he wonders if he’s trapped her too, though he doesn’t think ‘roguish handsomeness’ has anything to do with it.
“No, for reasons beyond my comprehension, she's decided to stick around,” he says awkwardly. “Despite my best efforts to make her see the light.”
Charlie nods, as if that was the response he was expecting. “You and Bill aren't all that different, then,” he says, clapping Mulder on the shoulder. “Only, you know when to give in to that Scully stubbornness and admit defeat. He, unfortunately, doesn't.”
All the better for me, Mulder thinks.
They fall into an awkward silence after that, each taking a sip from their lukewarm coffee. Mulder glances around the room in search of his partner again, hoping she’ll come rescue him from small-talk hell when—
“So what are you actually up to?”
This time he plays it cool, swallowing another sip of coffee as casually as possible before asking, “What do you mean?”
“Come on. When I asked you earlier, you started sweating,” Charlie says, lightly smacking Mulder’s arm with the back of his hand. “Now you've got me thinking you're hiding something.”
Mulder gives his best clueless look, a tactic which only has about a 50% success rate of getting him out of trouble. “I don't know what you're talking about.”
“Sure you don't,” Charlie says, entirely unconvinced. He has the same expression as Scully has when he’s pitching her some wild theory at work. It’s almost unsettling to see it now on an unfamiliar face. “My sister's got that ‘sneaking around’ look she used to get when she was doing something our parents wouldn't approve of,” he continues. “I was the youngest sibling, remember? I saw everything.”
Okay, denial’s not working, time to bail. The scrutinizing eyes of Charles Scully are locked onto him, and he gives a knowing smile.
“Well, whatever it is, I'm glad you're doing it. She seems happy.” Mulder lets out a breath, not sure what the approval of his partner’s younger brother means exactly, but grateful for it all the same. “I think making Bill mad gives her a thrill,” the man continues, casting a glance at his big brother.
“I'm afraid you might be right,” Mulder agrees.
Charlie shakes his head. “Well, that's Dana for you. Appearances are never what they seem.”
Mulder couldn’t agree more.
“Ain't that the truth.”
-.-.-
Lunch is a fairly painless affair, all things considered. Maggie had the good grace to sit Bill and Mulder on opposite ends of the table, and Charlie doesn’t mention their previous conversation again. The last remnants of dessert are being scraped off plates when the phone rings, its shrill tone interrupting conversation.
“Dana, your boss is on the phone for you,” Maggie speaks, popping her head around the corner from the kitchen.
“Oh, brother,” Bill says, instantly looking to Mulder with a nasty glare. So much for being off the hook, Mulder thinks. He wordlessly sends a complaint to Scully about her brother’s behavior, flicking his eyes pointedly toward Bill Jr., and she’s forced to suppress a smile as she hurries into the kitchen. He hears her mumble something into the phone, though it’s far enough away that no one in the dining room can hear.
When she returns, she’s wearing a serious facial expression.
Showtime.
“Mulder, that was Skinner,” she says, her tone regretful. “He's calling us in.”
“Ugh, on Christmas?” he whines, putting a little extra oomph into his indignation for appearance’s sake. Bill doesn’t appear to be buying it.
“He says it should only take a few hours—they just need our input on a case,” Scully explains, just like they’d rehearsed.
“Well, if the Assistant Director says so,” Mulder says with a shrug, and Scully shoots him a look that says he's pushing his luck. He can't help but smirk for a second before carefully masking his face. This was her idea.
“Are you kidding me, Dana? This is a family holiday!” Bill protests, a vein bulging in the side of his head. As if he’s never missed a holiday for work. Yeah, right.
Scully’s composure remains cool and confident, despite her brother’s lack of reason. “Director's orders, Bill. I'm sorry. I promise I'll be here all day tomorrow.”
He scoffs. “I'll believe it when I see it.”
Maggie, to her credit, takes their sudden departure in stride, hugging both her daughter and Mulder before ushering them out the door, promising to see them tomorrow bright and early.
They smile like giddy, rule breaking schoolchildren all the way to the car.

IPKKND LIVE BLOG SEASON 1 [Epi. 6]
Come, let's begin.
1. Episode starts with Khushi flashing back to all the horrible moments that happened that day. Mind you, this is the same day going on, the day just after Payal's marriage broke and the day all of them went to The Dargah.
2. The same day Arnav and Khushi had their fight regarding Gods and their existence. Then him releasing those clippings and the Mul Rajani part and Khushi in the market with her parents and all of a sudden people giving her annoying glares and muttering things about her character, then their encounter with Shyam and coming back to GS, her parents' decision to send her away to Delhi and then finally, them going to the office of that news channel and her finding out about him, releasing those clips. Uff. A lot to happen in a single day. I think, they forgot to end a day, in between. Lol. Enough. Now back to the epi.
3. Khushi is adorably ranting about her horrible day which was made even more horrible by that 'Laard Gorverner'. (Yes that's the official spelling for me now. But who cares? Lol.)
4. I don't think we should take it jokingly tho but I don't know why did they show as if Khushi is intrigued by him more than being indifferent to his existence completely. She's already given him a nick name and keeps using it, at every chance she gets.
5. She's got insulted by almost the entire Lucknow and her neighborhood and yet they show as if she is not that serious with his misbehavior and him in general entirely for something so terrible that happened to her. She never even mentioned it at least once about this incidence later.
I agree that they did it for the show, but still, they could have shown her anger, her indifference like they did it in the guesthouse track. The fierce and no-nonsense Khushi. Whatever.
6. While she is recalling her opinion regarding "Bina dil ki Dilli, machis ki tilli." (It's a rhyme made for Delhi and it's heartless people.) There, Shyam comes up, after stalking and following her from that office and is now pretending as if he was passing from there and merely happened to coincidently see her there too. Bloody b_stard.
7. Now. Tell me. How did he know it was her father's 'batua' ? Okay. Fine. His photo must have been there. And address too. Coz he reveals that he was coming to her house. And Khushi is caught off guard by the revelation, but seeing her astonishment he quickly diverts her attention by twisting his answer. KHUSHI!? DON'T IGNORE YOUR GUT INSTINCT OKAY!?! DON'T!!! I AM WARNING YOU OF THIS LEECH!
8. Lol. Who am I kidding? This is the same girl who was in denial of her feelings for a certain someone, okay let's not go there right now.
9. Btw, this is for all the girls who are reading this. Never ignore your gut-instinct or more precisely the girl-instinct. Never ever. Be very aware of who is around you for what purpose or intention. Now. Back to the epi.
10. Khushi, naively, tells him everything about who she knows there and who is she going with. Girls, I am warning you again. Never indulge into a complete stranger, let alone giving them info bout yourself or your location.
11. She did not have to tell him, any of that. Don't be too good for your own good, Khushi, please.
12. The atmosphere in GS is very melancholic as they complete their last minute packings and babuji comes and offers a spoonful of dahi-chini. Khushi has tears in her eyes but probably this is the last time that she would cry and anyone would not get affected by it, because after this Arnav would always, always, always get hugely affected whenever he would find Khushi crying. Ok. Ab chalo, Dilli.
13. The sun dawns, the next day and we find ourselves standing on the busy roads of Delhi, outside the railway station.
14. Khushi complains about the speeding cars and compares them to the ones in Lucknow.
15. Buaji demonstrates the method to cross a road, this busy. Buaji, leave the girls, even I won't be able to cross the road the way you did. You are unique, Buaji. You are you. No one can be you. Lol.
16. The girls fret over a little, but nervously start to cross the road. But, ultimately, they end up creating, a traffic jam.
17. Hahahahaahahah. The auto scene always gets me. Lol. Buaji tries to get in the auto, while complaining about the size of the 'darwajja' (door). And when she gets in from this side, Khushi falls down from the other side. Lol.
18. "Humara auto mein toh teen ka hee permit hai, mataji." "Toh hum kaa chaar dikhayi de rahe haen?" *smacks the driver* "Chal nikaal riksa." Lol. (My auto permits only three people, ma'am. Do we seem to be four people, here? *smacks the driver* Now come on start the riksha.)
19. So. Tho. Funnily portrayed. But, sad, as well. The driver adjusts the mirror to stare at Khushi while driving and Khushi is well aware, so she covers her face with her dupatta. This. Right, here. You won't believe but this kind of behavior is so damn common, even I have faced these kinds of situations. I HATE THIS. I DESPISE THIS. I DOWNRIGHT ABHORE THIS. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH. Enough. Now get back to the epi.
20. They are there. Laxminagar. They get out of the riksa. Buaji asks the fare and the driver says it's 200. Khushi feels that it is ridiculously high. She starts arguing but the driver says he is ready to dismiss the fare for her, in a very flirtatious tone. So, Khushi being Khushi, pulls a suitcase so hard, that it smacks his head from the back, before giving a final blow, she says "Maaf kijiye, Bhaiyyaji. (scowls)" Lmao. I love Khushi.
21. Buaji tells them about the situation of water supply in Delhi. And, she goes inside the house. Khushi and Payal share their feelings of the 'weird' experiences they faced up until now.
22. AND. HI BITWA. Oh. When did you land in Delhi? You know what your wife has also arrived in Delhi. Ahhhhhhh. The cravat. (😍) Lol. ASR guitar BG score is so soothing. Arnav is leaving for office. Anjali di has made his 'favorite' Bhuni methi ke parathe (roasted fenugreek seeds' flatbread) "Side rakhne ke liye nahi de rahe hain, kha lena." Lol.
23. Anjali di reminds him to come back home early as today Naniji is coming back from her pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi and there is a puja at their house. But, our chhotte straight up refuses to 'waste' his precious time in 'these' things and asks her to make up some excuse for his absence.
24. Anjali di is reminded of the 'prasaad' that she has to make for the puja so after saying, "Chhotte tum na bohot baatein karte ho, dekha sab gadbad karaa di, hum chalte hein, bye.", (when she did all the talking and didn't even let her chhotte speak a single word. Lol.), she leaves. Her chhotte is left incredulous at her antics.(Those who say that he started smiling or feel any positive emotion only after Khushi came into his life permanently, SEE THAT, GO AND OPEN THE EPISODE.)
25. Phuphaji? Worked? In? Railways? Lol. See this.
Tumblr media
26. "Tohre hoth bijli aawat nahi, girat hai girat. Dham dharaam." Lol. Buaji. I hate to admit this. But. You are so damn right.
27. "Haan. Jaise aaj aap girin." Famous Last Words Ft. Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada.
28. And Buaji throws a cushion at her for spitting the fact of the century. Buaji. Please let her be.
29. Did I say it earlier? I think not enough. I will say it again. Babuji is the only person who can read Khushi so well.
30. Hmm. So. Buaji. WHAT IS YOUR DAMN PROBLEM, HUH? Whatever.
31. Buaji makes fun of her tears. Why Buaji why? Why do you exist?
32. Khushi and Payal enter ~what seems to be like~ their room as Khushi describes it aptly- Kamra nahi puratatva vibhaag ki site (Not a room but an archaeological site. Lol. I snorted.)
33. Both the sisters take up the meticulous job of cleaning the room.
34. One jerk of the dirty bedsheet and Buaji is immediately having an attack of asthma from all the dirt shoved her way.
35. Both of them panic and help her lay down on the bed. Khushi rushes to find her pump but to their utter dismay, it's empty.
36. Khushi snatches her basta and phone and rushes out to buy a new one. She takes Paaji's scooter along with her.
37. Bitwa informs his manager that he is crossing Connaught Place and that he will be there for the meeting in ten minutes.
38. His manager further goes on to give him a 'good' news that 'that fashion show wali ladki' has been humiliated so much by the people that she has left the city altogether (Arnav, did you send your men to keep a check on your dear wife Khushi?)
Arnav admonishes him for wasting his 'precious' time. (Tell me something honestly Bitwa, you did feel bad for her, even if it was just for a fleeting second, didn't you?)
And just as he says the line that it doesn't affect him even if she leaves the country, Khushi's reflection appears on the side glass of his car and she whoosh pasts him in a second. (Watch out Bitwa, she is definitely not in some other country but in the same city as you, not very far too, so be careful, you might fall in love.)
39. And, now yet another time, Khushi is on a scooter with a funny-looking helmet and she is driving.....or more like running, skidding, jumping but in a scooter way. Lol. This is her 'Hum Khushi Kumari Gupta' style driving.
(Remember the 'Hum Khushi Kumari Gupta' style running, skidding, jumping, i referred to in Epi. 3? This is the driving edition. Lol. Whatever.)
40. Okay, one more point, after that i am coming back to the epi. See, the last time, Khushi was on the scooter and where did she end up? Infront of her husband Arnavji.
This time as well she is on a scooter, so where will she end up? Not very hard to guess it, i think? Kyun meri Parmeswariyon? *winks*
41. So. Now. Back to the epi.
42. Payal informs her sister that 'pados wale Kaul uncle' had brought a pump for Buaji and now she is fine but Khushi insists that she should get her a new one anyways.
43. And. Within a few moments. Sure enough. She takes a turn towards the wrong side and runs right into a car; scratching it all the way along with one of the mirrors from the scooter, crashing into pieces on the road, within a few seconds.
44. She picks up the broken glass and guiltily walks towards the driver's side of the car only to come face to face with her husband Arnavji.
45. I love how her guilty expression immediately changes into something more like she is about to admonish him for his 'mischiefs'.
46. And our Bitwa. Oh damn. Just look at his positively delicious face and that expression is something like 'Oh. Damn. Uss ullu ke patthe ne toh kahan tha ki isne sheher chor diya tha. Toh phir yeh yahan kya kar rahi hai. Ab tera kya hoga Arnav.' Lol. No. Its something like 'Shit. Shit. Shit. Arnav. Shit. You are a gone case now. No one can save you from falling for this beautiful girl.' Lol. No. You decide his inner thoughts from this expression. A homework for y'all. I will ask y'all in the next one.
Tumblr media
47. But look at that face tho. *keeps staring at the screen* *doesn't realize that the screen is now flashing the precap* Shit. Shit. Shit. Sorry. I don't watch precaps but I couldn't stop myself from staring at his beautiful face.
P.S.: Ok. So. Howazit? Do tell. Ok. Then. Bye. Y'all. God bless you.

List of hcs ig!! Whoo!
I don’t have as many but ykyk
For Juldarami I think he’s hypersensitive, and gets panicked easily, he can usually keep a clear head but he’s very easy to get over emotional and potentially risk his cover in a situation which he has to fight himself with
He’s together with Guem and they both view Bamsaegi as their son
He still misses Mulori as he doesn’t get to see her often (since I like to believe she’s still alive) but whenever he does the two spend the entire day together as friends
For Guemsaegi I think he has a low empathy, he doesn’t really understand that the enemy are actually people and have feelings and emotions and often just can’t really put himself in others shoes even with people he actually cares abt, he doesn’t understand a lot of social cues even if he can pretend he does (I hc he has autism :))
He cares deeply about Juldarami and they are together but he doesn’t like to outwardly show as much affection as Juldarami does
Whilst Bamsaegi is his brother he mainly treats him as a son as they don’t have parents and because he’s a lot older than Bamsaegi as well
He doesn’t like Mulmangcho but doesn’t really think about him unless he knows he’s being a threat to Flower Hill. Basically out of sight out of mind
For Bamsaegi (haven’t finished s2 so keep that in mind) he’s loves science and he likes tinkering with machines though ever since he got tricked by Mul he’s been too scared and paranoid to do anything but train to be a scout, that moment really traumatized him so he doesn’t do a lot of the things he used to love (everyone in this show needs so much therapy that they are never gonna get)
He HATES Mulmangcho like deeply hates him, and hopes to be the one to kill him eventually
He doesn’t like people treating him differently just because he’s young and really dislikes it when people baby him, he really wants to prove himself especially to Geumsaegi
Mul HATES Geumsaegi, he’s constantly thinking of ways to beat and best him, whenever others suggest they’re gonna kill him he’s like “NO ILL DO IT, I HAVE TO KILL HIM” he hates the fact Geum barely thinks about him, he hates whenever Geum is happy and wants to make him as miserable as him. (Loser behavior tbh)
He’s terrified of death and desperately doesn’t want to die
He used to have a glasses collection that got destroyed very quickly so he likes to pick up any glasses he finds on the ground even if they’re damaged or broken to hopefully make another collection
Complains about EVERYTHING, and is very sensitive to texture and has sensory issues so he especially complains about that which almost everyone is irritated by
Doesn’t understand why Geum fight so hard for Flower Hill and why he cares so little for his own life, he constantly tries to challenge Geum’s beliefs though with little success
Commander Goseumdochi and Darami are together and are basically the father figures of everyone else and have to deal with the various stupid actions that the enemy and their own scouts do, they drink a lotta wine together probs

what i find really cool is that in the 'three stars each' texts, and expanded MUL.APIN (𒀯𒀳) tables, each constelation starts with 'mul' (𒀯) such as tarus (𒀯𒄞𒀭𒈾)*
but! more importantly for this discussion, the pleiades cluser (which is coincidently a part of the tarus constelation) is written simply as MUL.MUL, or: 𒀯𒀯
𒀯𒀯 has been translated to mean 'star cluster', 'many stars' or 'star of stars' depending on whose translating the text, a fact of which i could find absolutley no sources to very much to my immense annoyance but im going to keep trying at that
its also one of the closest star clusters to earth
and, just to get on the same page, the pleiades cluster, also called the seven sisters, and, for me at least, its one of the first things you learn to pick out in the night sky
just looking at it normally you can only tend to see six stars in the cluster, but on really clear nights you can even see the seventh brightesst star as well and its fucking beautiful
but anyway! back to the cuneiform!
𒀯𒀯 (MUL.MUL), or more specifically just the singular 𒀯 (MUL) is the determinative used when noting stars and planets (and star clusters) which is made up of the sign 𒀭 but just there three times
now, the sign 𒀭 is a sumerogram for either AN or DINGIR depending on your translation, but essentially equates to meaning a range of words from 'sky', to 'god/goddess'
an example of this is with Anu (𒀭𒀭) in Akkadian or Anum/An (𒀭) in Sumerian. Anu/Anum/An has a passive 'king of the gods' sort of role who is a divine representation of the sky (seeing the links?)
that example might be a biiiit too pointed actually hangon :,
Ki (𒀭𒆠) is a Sumerain goddess, sometimes depicted as a queen of 𒀭𒀭, sometimes as a sister idk it gets confusing with all the different translations. anyway 𒀭𒆠 also has the '𒀭' (DINGIR) character that preceedes her name like the other gods, which is followed by the sumerogram '𒆠' (KI) which is translated into meaning 'earth'/'land'/etc. which makes sense when you consider she is mostly translated into and described as being an 'earthly' goddess.
anyway, Ki (𒀭𒆠) ends up marying her oldest son Enil (𒀭𒂗𒆤), likened as a god of wind/air etc, who is an Anunnaki (𒀭𒀀𒉣𒈾)? but all this to say thats one of the stories of how plants and animals came about on earth
a bit less of a confusing example is probably 𒀭𒊹 (AN.ŠAR). His name contains the character 𒀭 as well as the character 𒊹 (ŠAR). 𒊹 looks a bit ominous cause its so big and just all consuming of the space which makes sense when translated to mean 'totality'
(𒊹 can also mean 3,600 - it all depends on the context though)
𒀭𒊹 is described as being a primordial god, and occupies the same role as 𒀭𒀭. sometimes 𒀭𒊹 is described/written/translated as 𒀭𒀭's father? sometimes not? idk tracking the relations of gods to eachother is hard to follow through all the different translations lol
but anyway when you have 𒀯𒀯 denoting a star cluster made up of 6 relatively easy to distinguish individual stars, you know some part of me doesnt exactly think thats a coincidence
Tumblr media
and anyway i cant exactly remember where i was going with this whole bit of text but anyway the pleiades cluster is one of the most beautiful things in the sky (at least in the northern hemisphere, cause i cant lie, the coal sack nebula and magellanic clouds are sick as fuck but you guys dont get them up there)
*this is where i realised that tumblr is not going to let me do superscript rip x_x anyway u should go read the wikipage on babylonian star catalogues its a p good summary and has better translation lol

SPIRITUALITY IN ISLAM: PART 48: FUTUWWA (YOUTH AND CHIVALRY)
Futuwwa, defined as youth and chivalry, is really a composite of such virtues as generosity, munificence, modesty, chastity, trustworthiness, loyalty, mercifulness, knowledge, humility, and piety.
It is a station on the path to God as well as a dimension of sainthood, and also signifies that one has made altruism and helping others one’s second nature. It is an important, indispensable dimension of good conduct and a significant aspect of humanity.
Derived from fata’ (young man), futuwwa has become a symbol of rebelling against all evil and striving for sincere servanthood to God:
They were young men who had believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance. And We strengthened their hearts, when they rose up and declared: Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and Earth; we will not call upon any god beside Him, or then we had spoken an outrage. (18:14)
Expresses this eloquently. They said:
We have heard a youth talk of them (the idols); he is called Abraham (21:60)
expresses the position and influence of one who has achieved perfect futuwwa in his or her community, one who has sought to guide humanity to truth. By contrast, the young men mentioned in the verses:
With him there came into the prison two young men (12:36)
and:
(Joseph) told his young (servants) to put their merchandise (with which they had bartered) into their saddlebags (12:62) were ordinary young men without chivalry.
As many people have written on or talked about futuwwa since the Age of Happiness, the concept has been defined in many ways: not despising the poor or being deceived by the rich and riches; being fair to everybody without expecting fairness from anyone; living one’s life as a pitiless enemy of one’s carnal self; being ever considerate of others and living for them; smashing all idols or all that is idolized, and rebelling against falsehood so as to be wholly devoted to God Almighty; bearing whatever evil is done to oneself but thundering where the rights of God are violated; feeling remorse for the rest of one’s life for committing even a small sin, but overlooking others’ sins regardless of how large they are; seeing oneself as a poor, lowly servant while considering others as saintly; not resenting others while maintaining relations with those who resent you; being kind to those who hurt you; and serving God and the people more than anyone else, but preferring others to oneself when it is time to receive one’s wages.
Some have summed up futuwwa in the four virtues mentioned by Haydar Karrar ‘Ali, the fourth Caliph and cousin of the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings. They are: forgiving when one is able to punish, preserving mildness and acting mildly and gently when one is furious, wishing one’s enemies well and doing good to them, and being considerate of others’ wellbeing and happiness first, even when one is needy.
‘Ali was one of the greatest representatives of futuwwa. When he was stabbed by Ibn Muljam while leading the morning prayer in the mosque, his children, who saw that their father would die, asked him what he wanted them to do with Ibn Mul-jam. He did not order his execution in retaliation. [ Ibn al-Athir, Usd al-Ghaba, 4:118. ] During a battle, ‘Ali threw his enemy to the ground and then released him. His reason: When 'Ali was about to kill this man, the latter spat in 'Ali’s face, which angered him. Fearing that his motive for killing the man was now confused and sullied, 'Ali released him. [ Shamsaddin Sivasi, Manaqib Jiharyar Guzin, 258. ] He felt sincere grief when Zubayr ibn 'Awwam, a leading Companion and his staunch enemy, was killed. [ Al-Haythami, Majma’ al-Zawa'id, 9:150. ] Since he always considered others first even when he was in need, he usually wore summer clothes in winter and trembled with cold. [ Ibid., 9:122. ] It was said about him that there cannot be a young, chivalrous man like 'Ali, and there cannot be a sword like Dhu al-Fiqar ('Ali’s sword). [ 'Ali al-Qari, Al-Asrar al-Marfu'a fi akhbar al-Mawdu'a (Beirut, 1986), 367. ] 'Ali lived with the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, and was raised by him. He lived a perfectly honest, pure life without any taint, and embodied God’s answer to the Prophet Moses, upon him be peace, about futuwwa: It means that you are able to return your self to me as pure or untainted as you took it from Me.
The signs of a fata’ (young, chivalrous one) are that the individual’s, created with the potential to accept Divine Unity and Islam, is totally convinced of Divine Unity; that it urges him or her to live according to the requirements of this conviction; that, without being captivated by carnal or bodily desires, he or she lives a pure, spiritual life; and that he or she always seeks to please God in his or her deeds, thoughts, and feelings. One who cannot be saved from the temptations of the carnal self, Satan, appetites, love of the world, or attachment to the worldly life cannot climb upward to the peak of futuwwa.
Futuwwa is a treasure obtainable by climbing high beyond all the “highest mountains of the world”;
What business have those who fall tired even on a smooth road with such a treasure?

Note
OMG, i just love your platonic yandere gow stuff and i kinda have a prompt that i just can't get out of my head and i wanted to know if you'll up for writing it
so lets say that reader is well lets say understatemented because of how much people don't really see him as anybody else then being kratos son and loki's/atreus brother
so… what if lets say the reader sees the peeps (sif, thor, heimdall, freya and anybody else you want) in trouble and reader being seen as the weakling out of his family suprisingly saves there life like they do some powerful magic shit
Sorry if you don't want to write about this, but it was just stuck in my head and i wanted to share
thank you and goodbye :>
Broken Truth (Looks at the ask): Let's be honest - Thor and Heimdal can handle themselves in a fight, Lady Sif really wouldn't leave Asgard and Thrud would be able to defend herself without any help; so I'll write for Freya because she's the only one I can see getting into trouble and needing help. If I think of someone else, I'll come back to this ask and add to it. I hope that's okay.
Someone gave me an idea to make [Name] something like the Dragonborn from Skyrim because I gave his voice power in the Thrud Extension and it would do good in this.
I'm thinking of giving [Name] a name, what do you guys think about 'Nithe' for a name? It means Dragon or Serpent in Old Norse if my research is valid. Anyway, let the words weave together.
[Freya]
Freya was looking for some kind of rare ingredient in the land where the dragons were plentiful, it was quiet for a while when she found the ingredient but that's when the dragon attacked. Freya did what she could and used her magic along with her combat skills but the creature overpowered her and knocked her into the wall, causing her to drop her sword and slump to the ground. She looked at the creature with blurry vision as it slowly stalked toward her before charging at her; she closed her eyes and waited for the impact but it never came, she opened her eyes when she heard the dragon roaring in anger and pain, and came face to face with an unbelievable panorama.
A single body stood between Freya and the Dragon & that body was [Name] - the youngest & 'weakest' of the Sons of Kratos. Holding the head of the dragon still as it struggled and tried to get away from him.
"Dovah Mul!" [Name] roared out in an unknown language as he began lifting the dragon up and threw it against the wall, making it slump to the ground. [Name] looked at the downed beast with an unknown fury in his eyes, this made Freya rise to her feet and hold her bleeding arm.
"[Name]? What are you doing here?" Freya asked.
"Stay back, Lady Freya, I'll deal with this." [Name] demanded as the dragon began to stand again. The beast inhaled and shot a river of fire in [Name's] direction, he inhaled and spoke in the strong language again.
"Yol Toor Shul!" [Name] roared out as a river of fire left his jaws and collided with the dragon's canceling each other out before he inhaled again and hit the dragon in the face with his fire, causing the creature to screech in pain and fly away from the agony. [Name] watched to make sure it was gone before turning his attention to Freya, who healed her wound. "Are you alright, Your Majesty?"
"I...I am fine. How did you do that? You had the strength of a dragon and you could breathe fire like one; aren't you a human?" Freya asked as she walked over to [Name] who shook his head.
"I'm half-giant & half-god. My Blood holds the blood of a dragon, my mother found that out a long time ago and was training me to learn more about controlling it but ever since she died, father refused to train me." [Name] explained it as he looked around for something.
"What are you looking for?" Freya asked as she followed his gaze but couldn't see anything.
"I heard that this dragon took a very powerful steel and I wanted to use it to make a weapon for myself." [Name] said as he walked over to the dragon's hoard and began digging through all the various metals until he found the one he was looking for. "I need to get back home and craft my weapon before father and Atreus get back." [Name] began walking to the ledge of the high point before Freya called out to him.
"Wait, have you thought about my offer? Will you become my son and the brother Baldur saw in you?" Freya asked him.
"I...I can't see myself leaving y father and brother. Please understand, Lady Freya" [Name] said as he turned and sprouted dragon wings and began flying away.
"I understand that you are too good for him and I shall make you my son, [Name]." Freya said as she went to the hoard and got the ingredients she needed.

On January 31st 1761 Lachlan MacQuarie, was born on Ulva, a small isle off the island of Mull.
Lachlan joined the Army in 1776 (aged 14) and served in Nova Scotia as well as New York and Jamaica. As a lieutenant he served in India from 1787 to 1801 and later in Egypt where he was involved in defeating the army of Napoleon. In 1810 Macquarie became Governor of New South Wales at a time when it was still being used as a penal colony. The previous Governor had been Captain Bligh of the “Bounty”.
Macquarie followed a policy of encouraging the former convicts to settle in Australia - despite opposition from the “free settlers” who wanted to retain privileges only for themselves. Australia would be a different place if he had not succeeded. He transformed Australia into a thriving country and Sydney from a shanty town to a Georgian city and is regarded as the “Father of Australia”.
His policy concerning the Aboriginals was an expression of the same humanitarian conscience. He organized the Native Institution (a school for Aboriginal children), a village at Elizabeth Bay for the Sydney tribe, an Aboriginal farm at George’s Head. Orders of merit and even an old general’s uniform were bestowed on deserving chiefs.
It must be noted also that he ordered The Appin Massacre, to round up all Aboriginal people in the area after some unrest. Those who resisted were to be shot. On 16 April 1816, at least 14 were killed by shooting; others were driven to jump to their deaths into a rocky gorge, near Broughton Pass.
So he wasn’t perfect, but who is, a bit of a rogue as well by all accounts, was adverse a wee bit of embezzlement, but managed to wriggle out of it, “laws” he laid down were of the strict Presbyterian upbringing on the Islands on the Inner Hebrides, nude sunbathing was banned as was “shooting a neighbour’s dog on a Sunday” As a Scot his ability to have a good drink were evident, of his army life in India he “took to the field” with “eight dozen bottles of brandy and Madeira” and “a quantity of gin”. One of his diary entries, penned after a big night out, shakily read, “No beer for three months’!
For the Australians reading this Lachlan also set aside land in Sydney for "recreation and amusement of the inhabitants of the town” He named it Hyde Park, it was here Australia’s first sanctioned horse racing took place. At one of the fairs at the park he organised, “ladies raced in sacks for a cheese” where men would bet on the results and have a laugh! At another two men competed in a mile foot race before slugging it out for 56 rounds in Australia’s first bare knuckle prize fight. Now the remark about the sack race might make you think he was a misogynist, maybe he was, but he was ahead of his time and a revolutionary for the fairer sex, giving plum jobs to women, with reformed banknote thief Elizabeth Killett appointed to run the Sydney Market.
But his liberal attitude to the convicts finally was his downfall, Macquarie’s critics sparked a British government inquiry into his rule and the governor resigned, setting sail for Britain in 1822 with a shipload of kangaroos for his friends and patrons it was said that…
“as a Scotsman he was drawn to an animal with an inbuilt sporran”. Other men may lay claim to be “The Father of Australia” but are any as colourful as oor Lachlan?
Macquarie died in London in 1824 while fighting charges made against him as Governor. He was buried in a Mausoleum on the Isle of Mul in a mausoleum near Salen with his wife, daughter and later son. The grave is maintained by the National Trust of Australia and is inscribed “The Father of Australia”.
As I stated earlier, and with a lot of these anniversaries about people born during the days of the British Empire, Macquarie was heavily involved in atrocities. I will point to one quote attributed to him....... in 1816 around the time of the Appin massacre, that all Indigenous people “from Sydney onwards are to be made prisoners of war, and if they resist they are to be shot and their bodies hung from trees in the most conspicuous places near where they fall, so as to strike terror into the hearts of the surviving natives”
You can find out loads about him online one of the sources can be found at the link at the bottom. The BBC made a drama-documentary in 2011 called The Father of Australia, https://nativistherald.com.au/2018/04/20/australias-founding-fathers-lachlan-macquarie/

Sons of Korah - Isaiah 53 - with lyrics (and subtitles)
♥ ♥  ♥
He grew up like a tender shoot Il a grandi comme une tendre pousse Like a withered root out of dry ground Comme une racine fanée hors d’un sol sec No beauty, No glory Ni beauté, ni gloire To draw us to him and nothing in His outward form to desire Pour nous attirer à lui et rien dans sa forme extérieure pour plaire
He was despised and rejected Il a été méprisé et rejeté A man of sorrows familiar with suffering Un homme de chagrin familier avec la souffrance Like one from who men hide their faces Pareil à celui face auquel les hommes détournent leurs visages He was like one from whom men hide their faces he was Il était pareil à celui face auquel les hommes détournent leurs visages, Il était
[Refrain] But who has believed ? Who has believed ? Mais qui a cru ? Qui a cru ? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed ? A qui le bras de Dieu a-t-il été révélé ?
He was despised we esteemed Him not Il était méprisé, nous ne l’estimions pas But surrely He took our infirmities and carried our sorrows, carried our grief Mais il a pris nos infirmités et porté nos chagrins, a porté notre deuil Yet we deemed Him stricken, afflicted by God Pourtant, nous l’avons considéré comme frappé, affligé par Dieu
But He was pierced for our transgressions and He was crushed for our iniquities Mais Il a été transpercé pour nos transgressions et Il a été écrasé pour nos iniquités The punishment that bought us peace was on Him and by His stripes, by His wounds we are healed Le châtiment qui nous a acheté la paix était sur Lui et par Ses meurtrissures, par Ses blessures, nous sommes guéris
[Refrain]
We all like sheep have gone astray Nous tous étions des brebis égarées Each of us has turned to his own way Chacun de nous s’était tourné vers sa propre voie But the Lord has laid on Him the sin of us all Mais Dieu a mis sur Lui le péché de nous tous. Yes the Lord has laid on Him the sin of us all Oui, Dieu a mis sur Lui le péché de nous tous.
==========
We almost never diverge from the Psalms with our compositions but there was one part of the bible that we could not resist. Nous ne divergeons presque jamais des Psaumes avec nos compositions, mais il y avait une partie de la Bible à laquelle nous ne pouvions pas résister.
Isaiah 53, sometimes called ‘the servant song,’ is the perfect accompaniment to the psalms. Ésaïe 53, parfois appelé « le chant du serviteur », est l’accompagnement parfait des psaumes.
In its haunting lyrical-oracular style it celebrates the greatest thing that God ever did. Dans son style lyrique-oraculaire obsédant, il célèbre la plus grande chose que Dieu ait jamais faite.
It tells of the suffering servant, the man of sorrows, who is none other than Jesus Christ, the very incarnation of the one true God. Il parle du serviteur souffrant, de l’homme de douleurs, qui n’est autre que Jésus-Christ, l’incarnation même du seul vrai Dieu.
The prophet sings of the sacrifice of God’s righteous servant in an event so singular that he wonders in the same instance who could believe that such a thing could ever happen. Le prophète chante le sacrifice du serviteur juste de Dieu dans un événement si singulier qu’il se demande dans le même cas qui pourrait croire qu’une telle chose ai pu jamais arriver.
Whereas the psalms often lament the human condition, the song of the suffering servant presents God’s answer to this predicament : God himself takes on our suffering so that we can be clothed in joy. Alors que les psaumes déplorent souvent la condition humaine, le chant du serviteur souffrant présente la réponse de Dieu à cette situation difficile : Dieu lui-même assume notre souffrance afin que nous puissions être revêtus de joie.
The act of God that Isaiah 53 sings of is what accounts for every turning point in the psalms. L’acte de Dieu qu’Ésaïe 53 chante est ce qui explique chaque tournant dans les psaumes.
It is why, as Psalm 103 declares, “he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” C’est pourquoi, comme le déclare le Psaume 103, « il ne nous traite pas conformément à nos péchés, il ne nous punit pas comme le mériteraient nos fautes ».
It is the reason why there is any praise and rejoicing in the psalms at all. C’est la raison pour laquelle il y a de la louange et de la joie dans les psaumes.
That’s why we wanted to sing this song and place it beside the saddest of the psalms, Psalm 88. C’est pourquoi nous avons voulu chanter ce chant et le placer à côté du plus triste des psaumes, le Psaume 88.
It is the work of the man of sorrows, Jesus Christ, that assures that, as Psalm 126 declares, our sowing in tears will return to us a harvest of joy. C’est l’œuvre de l’homme de douleurs, Jésus-Christ, qui assure que, comme le déclare le Psaume 126 : “ ceux qui sèment dans les larmes moissonneront dans la joie. “

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 205
Futuwwa (Youth and Chivalry)
They said: We have heard a youth talk of them (the idols); he is called Abraham (21:60) expresses the position and influence of one who has achieved perfect futuwwa in his or her community, one who has sought to guide humanity to truth. By contrast, the young men mentioned in the verses: With him there came into the prison two young men (12:36) and: (Joseph) told his young (servants) to put their merchandise (with which they had bartered) into their saddlebags (12:62) were ordinary young men without chivalry.
[1] During a battle, ‘Ali threw his enemy to the ground and then released him. His reason: When ‘Ali was about to kill this man, the latter spat in ‘Ali’s face, which angered him. Fearing that his motive for killing the man was now confused and sullied, ‘Ali released him. [2] He felt sincere grief when Zubayr ibn ‘Awwam, a leading Companion and his staunch enemy, was killed. [3] Since he always considered others first even when he was in need, he usually wore summer clothes in winter and trembled with cold. [4] It was said about him that there cannot be a young, chivalrous man like ‘Ali, and there cannot be a sword like Dhu al-Fiqar (‘Ali’s sword). [5] ‘Ali lived with the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, and was raised by him.
Futuwwa is a treasure obtainable by climbing high beyond all the “highest mountains of the world”;
What business have those who fall tired even on a smooth road with such a treasure?
[1] Ibn al-Athir, Usd al-Ghaba, 4:118. [2] Shamsaddin Sivasi, Manaqib Jiharyar Guzin, 258. [3] Al-Haythami, Majma’ al-Zawa’id, 9:150. [4] Ibid., 9:122. [5] ‘Ali al-Qari, Al-Asrar al-Marfu’a fi akhbar al-Mawdu’a (Beirut, 1986), 367.

FOXFISH
Kwangjang Market, Seoul Summer 2015
The heat of the market—inherent to this place, both for crowd and its quality of vendor—creates a thick sheen on his skin; it stokes up the amygdala like wind to the blaze, sets it to shivering and bleating and raring to leap into panic.
Exposure therapy.
He’s trying it, not that he’d been advised to do so, but because he’d heard somewhere along the line that is was an overly accessible way of working through your emotions (perhaps Chanyeol at one of their infrequent lunches? It seems a sentiment more native to someone like Kyungsoo, who is easy-going and unflappablemore calm and peaceful than the former—but Baekhyun cannot summon the conversation to mind enough to decide one way or another). He thinks that, if the method were recommended by someone more clinical, professional, that it would come with parameters and advices beyond simply diving into it blind. Baekhyun’s always been impulsive with the heart, with healing and trying to heal. Thinks he can grab it up from the mold and shape it into what he needs at the snap of a finger.
The thought translates down his nerves. His thumb and middle-finger touch, press, and slide. Snap.
The rabbit thumping against the walls of his heart does not falter in its pace. His sweat has made his T-shirt stick to the small of his back. He thinks, to some degree, that the exposure is helping. He allows the crowd to press to him, to move him propulsively into the depths of the market (where the only sign of a breeze is the one high over-head, ruffling through the international array of flags strung across the ceiling). The first time he’d come here (after the accident, he’d been many times before) he’d come earlier in the morning, and had still needed to step off to the side—out of the walking river between food stalls—and eventually leave the market entirely.
This second time, a month later, and he feels like each time a stranger’s knuckle knocks against his own his conviction grows; each time a stranger’s feet nearly trip up in his, he feels his steps become more certain. He hinges on the sound of laughter, of the murmuring and the humming and the talking. He makes a distraction of the noise, of the crowd, of the bright array of colors, of the plethora of scents—spicy, sour, savory, sweet. Not so much that he misses the noodle-stall he’d ventured here for, but enough that the heat does not seem so thick as it clings to his skin.
A greeting touches his tongue as he approaches the stall, but does not leave it. He’d come here as a kid. He recognizes the woman behind the counter (Park Seul-ki imonim), gracing everyone with a smile. He doubts she will recognize him.
His sneakers scrape the wood beneath the bench as he braces, steps up and over, leg-by-leg. He finds that it’s easier to do things in that mechanical way (almost robotic, computerized, line of code by line of code—and he’s taken by a memory of his programming class in college, of his code failing and his father trying to explain his mistake despite not knowing the first thing about the language).
Half-way onto the bench, he almost loses his balance.
Catches himself, and he sits.
It’s not until his elbow knocks against the man’s next to him that he gets out of his head. Just quickly enough to catch the tail-end of: “—all right?” And that all-too-recognizable glint of concern laid across the words.
Baekhyun glances sideways—catches a fox-face made soft by pity. God, is he that transparent? “Yeah, thanks.” His tone’s too flat (his music teacher would have given him so much grief for that); he cringes, but doesn’t apologize, or offer any explanation. He just sighs deep, feels entirely unlike himself, and orders with the noona helping imonim.
The name: mul-naengmyeon rolls of his tongue with swiftness. What better way is there to chase away the heat than with the cold? But he is not so quick as to request his modification. The business of the dinner rush (influxed with both foreigners and tourists from other parts of the country) has noona reeling away to expertly handle another guest.
He’ll just pick the cucumbers off the top of the soup.
It’s hard to ignore the way his chest constricts, tightens up like its been cinched with a rope.
It’s harder to ignore the lump in the back of his throat, sitting heavy on his tongue.
It’s hardest to allow himself to feel as he feels, and feel warranted to it, because he thinks himself silly. A little cucumber stands to make him crumble? Pathetic.
“You sure?” That voice again.
Baekhyun blinks back the sting in his eyes. Irritation prickles at him. His tongue’s always been sharp when he’s over-worn. But, even as he turns, ready to draw a metaphorical line in the sand between himself and this stranger who thinks himself obligated to an answer—
“—Your soup, Baekhyun-ie.”
The bowl is set before him, cucumber garnish nowhere to be seen.
He’s tardy with his thanks. The gratitude gets caught in the lump in his throat, but this time, manages to leap off the tip of his tongue.
“—Cause you really don’t seem all right.” Imonim has moved on to the next guest, entrepreneurial despite her extension of kindness. In the gap she leaves, the fox at his side has chosen to continue his interrogation.
“What’s it matter to you?” Baekhyun murmurs. He’s able to keep the acidity out of his tone. Nostalgia has twined with the grief and the overwhelming dirge of the day, and it has softened him—even if the irritation remains simmering. He doesn’t look at the stranger, but plucks metal chopsticks and a soup-spoon from the tin offered to each customer.
“Well I suppose it doesn’t matter at all.”
“So then?” Baekhyun drawls, trailing off and raising his brow as he speaks. He stirs the broth and the garnish together, weighs if he should add lime atop it all (and after a glancing deliberation, decides to go without).
“My friend would say I’m chasing good karma.” That quiet, tumble of a half-laugh is more soothing than Baekhyun wished it were. It distracts his rabbit-heart, and the pause lingers. “I can leave you alone…” But he doesn’t want to.
Baekhyun’s not unused to kindness.
He’d been spoiled with affection growing up.
This elicits nothing more than the familiarity of that time.
“The heat’s getting to me—that’s all,” Baekhyun offers. He takes a bite of the noodles. His eyes flutter shut. For a moment, the crowd of the market is far away. Then, he blinks, and sound resumes him. “I’m hot-blooded or whatever,” he says, figuring it doesn’t hurt to fib early and wayleigh any potentially forthcoming questions.
“Here I was thinking the heat didn’t seem so bad tonight.” There is the half-laugh again. “You must not come often, then?”
“No, not really.”
“Seul-ki recognizes you, though.” He noticed.
“Imonim must remember the terror I was when I was younger.” He does not say aloud he’s ruffled by the lack of honorific, but he is. This stranger with his fox-smile is abrasive (yet charismatic), is insolent (yet politely kind, too).
“You must have been some terror to have her recall your name. She always says her memory’s too bad to recall mine.”
“Do you prompt her to call you by name?” Baekhyun sideyes him again, but the stranger is unfazed. His grin has not faltered—though it has thinned as he chews a bite of his food. His cheeks stretch across his bones. His eyes crinkle good-naturedly. Still, he has a sharpness to him—something that creates a disharmony of him (one Baekhyun cannot quite discern).
“Of course. I am her most loyal customer.” His voice pitches, becomes louder, and another plate of banchan is set down between the two of them.
Along with it: “Behave, Jongdae.” With the same formality and strictness of one’s mother.
Seul-ki moves on, once more compelled to attend her other customers.
“You seem more a terror than I was.”
This time, the laugh is loud and unabashed—a bark of mirth.
“Perhaps!”

[🏀 Tebasland "Mu-mul-bo" <Martins> 🏀]
Tebasland, the play of conversation! It's halfway through and it's coming to an end.
So all of us, Martins, gathered together, We had time to ask all the questions you've been curious about. 🌟
Check out Martins's honest answers today! 😉
안녕하세요 여러분! Hello, everyone!
🏀택르틴: 안녕하세요! 🏀Taekartin: Hello!
테베랜드가 공연 중반을 넘어가고 있습니다! 연습과 공연 기간을 통틀어 기억에 남는 에피소드가 있으신가요? Tebasland is halfway through the show! Do you have any memorable episodes from both practice and performance?
🏀택르틴: 어떤 에피소드보다도 배우 형들과 연출팀, 쇼노트와 함께 많 이 웃었던 기억들이 남아요. 🏀Taekartin: More than any other episode, I remember laughing a lot with the actors, the directing team, and the shownote.
*full tranlation and other images under the cut
2인극인 만큼 대사량이 어마어마 하더라구요~ 혹시 대사 암기 노하우가 있다면 알려주세요! As it's a two-person drama, the amount of lines is incredible. If you have any know-how to memorize lines, please let me know!
🏀택르틴: S의 대사를 제가 녹음해서 맞추는 연습을 했답니다. 🏀Taekartin: I recorded the lines of "S" and practiced it. 극 중 가장 좋아하는 대사와 가장 외우기 힘들었던 대사가 What was your favourite line and the hardest line to memorize
🏀택르틴: 가장 좋아하는 대사는 S의 대사 5시 1분이에요. 그리고 외우기 힘들었던 대사는 아버지의 학대를 말하는 씬 과 포크 살인 재현씬 ㅠㅠ. 🏀Taekartin: My favorite line is S's line at 5:01. And the lines that were hard to memorize were the scene of father's abuse and the scene of fork murder.
마르틴과 페데리코, 다르면서도 같은 이 둘의 차이를 만들어 내는 배우님들만의 기준이 있 나요? Do you have your own standards for Martin and Federico that make the difference between the two, which are different and the same?
🏀Taekartin: In fact, even if Martin and Federico were in opposite circumstances and circumstances, they would not have been different from Federico and Martin today. I think there is only a difference because I built the character thinking about their lives and environment.
극 중 S에게 태블릿을 선물 받았을 때 마르틴은 어떤 기분이었을까요? How did Martin feel when he got a tablet from S in the play?
🏀택르틴: 커져 버린 나의 존재가 더 이상 외롭지 않을 것 같다. ㅎ 🏀Taekartin: I don't think my growing existence will be lonely anymore. Hah
배우님이라면 어떤 선택을 할지 궁금해요! 아버지 무덤에 간다 vs 극을 보러 간다 I wonder what kind of choice you would make. Going to father's grave vs going to see a play
🏀택르틴: 아버지 무덤에 간다~ 🏀Taekartin: I'm going to father's grave
마지막 장면 이후 마르틴과 S는 각자 어떤 삶을 살아갈거라 생각하세요? What kind of life do you think Martin and S will live after the last scene?
🏀택르틴: 과거의 자신에게 얽매이지 않고 자신의 길을 잘 찾아갈 것 같 습니다. 🏀Taekartin: I think I will find my way well without being tied to my past self.
S와 마르틴은 서로가 서로에게 어떤 존재였을까요? What were S and Martin to each other? 🏀택르틴: S에게 마르틴은 자신을 마주하게 해주는 매개체이자 자신 안 의 또 다른 자신이지 않았을까 싶기도 하고, 마르틴에게 s는 부모이자 친구이자 선생님. 🏀Taekartin: For S, I think Martin was a medium and another self within him that allowed him to face him, and for Martin, S is a parent, friend, and teacher.
테베랜드를 통해 얻은 것 한 가지만 꼽는다면요? What's one thing you got from Tebasland?
🏀택르틴: 단연코 사람들입니다. 🏀Taekartin: It's definitely people.
마지막으로 내가 맡은 캐릭터를 실제로 만난다면 해주고 싶은 말은? Lastly, if you meet your character in person, what would you say?
🏀택르틴: 우리는 다르지 않다고 말해주고 싶네요 🏀Taekartin: I'd like to say that we're no different.
