There should be lots of online encyclopedias on different topics written by experts, ideally with some oversight because Wikipedia can be very, very biased when it wants (you can tell some people are really masturbating to Byzantine emperors), but I think this is a lost cause too since Google search, which let's face it, it's 99% of all internet searches, is declining into mush fast. I decided that it was the perfect time to drop the surprise, I placed a pregnancy test that I took on a box with a ribbon and wore a nice dress.

When we got to the restaurant, he and I talked about the things that happened the past few weeks.

Eventually, I told him that I had a surprise for him, I took out the box and gave it to him.

Gun seemed skeptical and took the box, he slowly opened it and his eyes widened from the contents inside, I saw Gun's face soften as he looked at me with a smile.

Gun got up from his seat and went over to me and gave me a kiss on the lips, "I fucking love you."

↳ Goo was away to go on business, and I was left home feeling sick all day and night, eventually, a friend suggested that I might be pregnant.

I bought a pregnancy test and it tested positive, I was thrilled.

I wanted to surprise my dearest Goo so I bought a pacifier and put in a box and made a letter.

The day Goo got home, I made him his favourite dinner and placed the box in front of him, naturally, he was curious, but I told him to wait until dessert.

Once we finished eating, he asked if he could open the box, with a smile, I nodded and impatiently watched as Goo opened what I had prepared for him.

Goo's whole body stiffened when he saw what was inside, with teary eyes he looked up at me.

"I'm going to be a dad?!"

↳ Samuel was first to notice the changes, in a nice quiet morning, Samuel confronted me about something that concerned him.

He asked me if I've gotten my period yet, and I told him no, it took a moment for me to realise where he was going with it.

Samuel asked if I've felt nauseous lately, and I mentioned that I have been.

He then held my hand and looked me dead in the eyes, Samuel asked the question, "Could it be that you're pregnant?"

The silence in the room was loud, later on, Samuel and I bought a pregnancy test while doing some groceries, when we got home, Samuel prepared dinner while I took the test.

I was sat down in the toilet, my shaky hands held the test in front of me, my heart was racing so fast that I thought I might die.

When the result came out my eyes swelled up with tears as I screamed with joy.

Samuel hurriedly came and bardged in with a worried look on his face, "Baby! Are you okay?! What happened?! I heard you scream!!"

I giggled and showed him the pregnancy test that showed a possible result, "I'm not the only one you'd be calling baby now."

↳ Lua and I were having a nice chat when all of the sudden I had the sudden urge to throw up, Lua came with me to the bathroom and held my hair as I vomited my breakfast and dinner.

When I had finished, Lua sat me down and got me some water, with a concerned look she asked what happened, "I'm pregnant," I said.

Lua was thrilled to hear the news, "You're pregnant?! Does Jake know?" I shook my head and placed my hands on my lap, "I plan on telling him on our anniversary."

Lua jumped up and down, her hands clappe together, "Ohh! I'm so happy for you, (F/n)!! I can't believe you're going to be a mom!"

"You're going to be a mom? Wait you're pregnant?"

We turned to look at who it was and it was Jake holding some takeout.

Lua let out an awkward chuckle and glanced at me, "Aha... Sorry~... I'll leave you two alone."

Lua left the room and Jake kneeled down in front of me, "Am I... Am I going to be a dad...?"

I sighed and crossed my arms, "I was going to tell you on our anniversary..."

Jake chuckled and kissed my lips, "I can't believe it, we're going to be parents."

I pouted and let out a huff, "Hmph! Now I'm not the only one who gets to call you daddy," Jake's face slightly reddened and he let out a chuckle.

He then creased my cheeks and leaned closer to my chest, "No, but you can still call me daddy when we make our second child."

↳ Mary was hanging out with us in Vin and I's shared home, she and I were talking about random things.

Vin then came in with a bag filled with stuff, he threw them at me and sat down on the couch next to me.

"Babe, what's all these stuff?" I asked holding a box of tampons and pads, my lover let out a groan and looked at me, "Ain't it obvious? Those are your stock for when you get them again."

I looked at Vin and slightly frowned, "Does this bitch seriously not realise anyo?" I asked myself.

"Baby, I won't be getting my period any time soon," I said, he looked at me and raised a brow.

Mary chuckled at my boyfriends denseness and shook her head, "What do you mean?"

"Babe, I'm pregnant."

Vin's eyes widen and he suddenly grabbed both of my shoulders, "You're pregnant?!" He shouted, I made a confused look and glanced at Mary.

"You seriously didn't know?!" I asked, Vin became quiet, his mouth slightly opened, I frowned and crossed my arms, "I literally had been getting morning sickness, not to mention, there's a box of pregnancy tests on the sink in the bathroom!"

Vin let out an "Oh" and scratched the back of his neck, "So that's what those are..."

I playfully smacked his arms and huffed, "Jee! You're such a dummy!"

Summary: After your childhood best friend promises to buy you dinner, you find yourself not enjoying a dinner, but him.

It wasn’t like you were going to deny it. The most popular man on your college’s campus. Seo Changbin. He, who was known to not only be physically attractive, muscles rippling through the tight shirts he always wore, but was also one of the kindest people on campus. Whether that would be from helping out someone new find their class, buying a meal for a friend, or simply just chatting with the teachers, it was clear that he could be anyone’s dream guy.

He is also your childhood best friend. The best friend who spends his time with you whenever he can, often waiting for you to finish up packing outside the class.

Today was no different.

“Y/n, there you are,” he says, smiling lopsidedly as he ruffles your hair, grinning when you grumble to fix the mess he made. “You need to pack faster, or else I’m not driving you back to your apartment anymore.”

“Hey!” you gasp, eyes wide. “We literally live in the same building!”

Rolling his eyes, he takes your hand, frowning as he stuffs it into his pant pocket. “Gosh, Y/n. Take better care of yourself. You’re freezing.”

“Am not-”

“You suck at lying.”

His words cut you off, and you just roll your eyes, too tired to argue, eyes half closing. Noticing your tiredness, he speaks softly. “Hey, did you get your exam results back?”

You nod, eyes opening fully again, lips twitching upwards. “Yeah. I passed with a good score!”

“Good job!” Changbin says, grinning softly. “I’ll treat you to dinner later, then? Since you treated me last?”

“Sure,” you answer, smiling back as he opens the car door for you. He laughs lightly, watching as you buckled yourself in before he closed the door gently. He makes his way to the driver’s seat, revving up the engine before he begins the drive back to the apartment building.

The car ride was filled with laughter, soft giggles, and just chatter. Life was never boring when Seo Changbin was around. With a happy hum, you make your way up to your own apartment, waving a goodbye to Changbin before locking the door behind you.

Exhausted, you quickly shower and change, letting your head fall to the pillow as you take a long awaited nap. For the past week or so, you had been staying up late and waking up too early, your movements sluggish. Now that you were able to nap, it certainly did feel amazing.

With a last sigh, you set your phone on silence, not wanting to be interrupted while napping. Forgetting that in just a few hours, Changbin would be treating you to dinner.

And later, when Changbin finally knocks on your door, you’re still fast asleep, snuggled in your bed, covers wrapped around you lazily. Changbin takes out his key to your apartment, as you both exchanged them just for emergencies. With another knock, Changbin enters, eyes scanning the room before they lock onto your closed bedroom there.

“Y/n?” he calls out softly when he sees you. He smiles slightly, watching the steady rise and fall of your chest as you sleep, something he knew you had been avoiding in place of studying.

When you don’t reply, he enters quietly, climbing under the covers with you, as he was wearing his own set of clean clothes, the dinner he had brought long forgotten in the kitchen.

He gently wraps an arm around your waist, snuggling against you from behind before he closes his eyes, relishing the feel of you in his arms. After another half hour or so, you stir, your eyes bleary as you check the time.

“Wha- Changbin-”

Your eyes are wide as you finally realize who was there, who was holding you and hugging you from behind. Whirling around, you’re met face to face with Changbin, who looks almost surprised at the close proximity. As if he wasn’t the one who let the distance die down.

His breath trails over your face, his eyes searching yours as he gently cups your face with a hand. “Y/n… I…”

You swallow. This was it. You could… you could kiss him. You really could. He was the most… attractive person you had ever met, with an even more attractive personality. As if reading your mind, he gently tilts your jaw up, kissing you softly as the both of you close your eyes.

It felt right. The way his lips moved against yours. He pushes you back onto your back, the covers long forgotten as he deepens the kiss. It’s like suddenly, he just wants more. Craves more after having a taste of you.

As his hands delve to the hem of your shorts, your eyes fly open, widening as you tense, him immediately pausing as he pulls back. “Y/n… I- can I-? We can stop. I swear.”

“Don’t,” you whisper. “Please.”

And with that, his hands pull your clothes off, his following suit, lost on the ground somewhere as he strokes himself. You whine softly when you catch the sight of his arousal, your eyes widening at the size. He only grins cockily, smiling as his hips aligned against yours. “Say red if you need me to stop, okay?”

You only manage to nod weakly. Because who would’ve imagined it? You and your best friend. In bed together.

“Okay.”

And so, he fucks you. He starts slow. Almost agonizingly slow. Covering your body with kisses before his fingers eventually finding your sensitive and throbbing clit. His fingers are slick with your arousal, stuffed in you, buried deeply, before he begins to move it, you gasping as you try to keep still. And as you continue to cry out, he eventually snaps, unable to hold back as his hips finally move.

Holding you down as he cries out softly, hips thrusting back and forth, moving in and out of you almost seamlessly. The way he’s holding you down with one hand, the other exploring you as you squirm. It was just too much.

“B-Binnie-” you gasp, blabbering softly. “Feels g-g-good- please d-don’t s-stop- B-Binnie-”

“Fuck, Y/n,” he stammers out, hips moving quicker. Whining softly, your hips move upwards, pushing against his desperately. The pleasure only grows, his eyes rolling back as he continues.

Your core is throbbing, a sense of overwhelming pleasure evident as you cry out softly. And with that, you reach your high, only his touch grounding you as you sob softly. He comes right after, gasping as he pulls out just in time to watch his arousal shoot over your body, now sticky and full of him.

“F-Fuck, Y/n…” his eyes are wide. Innocent. Like he was shocked by himself. By what he had just done. He gently kisses you, chest heaving, muscles rippling. “Stay here. L-Let me go clean you up, okay?”

When he’s grabbed a towel, damping it and wiping you down before himself, he tosses it to the laundry, staying off to the side.

“Binnine?” you whisper softly, eyes wide. He turns slightly, shifting uncomfortably as he dresses himself, you dressing yourself. “Did I do something wrong? Did you not like it, or-”

“No,” he says, immediately catching the slight hurt in your tone. He gently takes your hands, hesitant before he speaks again. “No, Y/n. No. I- I loved it. I just didn’t… I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.”

“I don’t think you did,” you say back, eyes wide. “Just… I think you made it better.”

His heart warms, fingers intertwined with yours as he presses his lips against your fingers. “Let’s go eat, okay? And then we can talk about this. About us. And what this means.”

“Okay,” you sigh. “But I’m sore. Carry me?”

He grins softly. “Yeah. I’ll carry you.”

This is the first addon I install on any new Firefox browser. It's an adblocker, but at its core it can remove pretty much any HTML element from a website, and it comes with pre-configured lists for removing everything from ads to cookie banners to those annoying popups that ask you to sign up for email newsletters.

Tab Session Manager

Have you ever accidentally lost all your open browser tabs due to a computer update, or even just accidentally closing Firefox? With this addon you no longer have to worry about that - it automatically saves your open tabs and windows every time the browser closes, and autosaves a restore point of tabs every few minutes in case the browser crashes unexpectedly. Opening all your previous tabs and windows is a one-click deal.

Sauron

Ever wished your favorite website had a dark mode? With Sauron, now it can! Sauron attempts to intelligently figure out how to edit the color scheme of the web page (including text) to make it dark-mode friendly. It preserves the original color of images, but dims them so that they don't blind you. You can disable image dimming or dark mode on a site by site basis too. It's not perfect since it is making guesses about which colors to change, but it goes a long way toward making the internet an enjoyable place for me.

Bypass Paywalls Clean

This addon removes paywalls from hundreds of news websites around the world or adds links to open the article in a wrapper that provides the article text (like the Internet Archive etc.)

Auto Tab Discard

Ever wanted to keep a tab open for later use, but you notice the browser getting slower and slower the more tabs you have open? Auto Tab Discard will automatically "hibernate" tabs that you haven't used in a while so that they use less resources on your computer. It's smart enough not to hibernate pages that are playing media (like YouTube) or that have forms you haven't submitted yet (like job applications). You can customize how fast it puts tabs to sleep too and exclude certain websites from hibernating at all.

Video DownloadHelper

This addon can download streaming videos from most modern (HTML5) websites, and even finds soft subtitles that accompany the stream and downloads those too. Just browse to the webpage that has the video on it, click the icon in the Firefox toolbar, and select the video you want to download and click "Quick Download". For YouTube I would recommend using a YT downloader website (like KeepVid) to download the video directly, but Video DownloadHelper really shines for websites that aren't popular enough to have dedicated downloader websites like that. I've used it download videos from a Japanese film festival streaming portal, news websites, etc.

Highlight or Hide Search Engine Results

This addon allows you to blacklist websites and completely remove them from Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo search results. Don't want to see image search results from AI websites? Blacklist them. Searching for tech support advice and getting frustrated by all the auto-generated junk websites that stuff themselves full of SEO terms to jump to the top of the search results without actually providing any information at all? Blacklist them so they don't come up in your next search. Conversely, you can also whitelist websites that you know and trust so that if they ever come up in future search results, they'll be highlighted with a color of your choosing for visibility.

TWP - Translate Web Pages

(compatible with Firefox for Android)

Does what it says on the tin: auto-detects a website's language and provides a button that can translate it to a language of your choosing. You can also just select individual text on the page and translate just that. Note that this sends whatever text you translate to the servers of your selected translation service (Google, Bing, Yandex, or DeepL), so keep in mind the privacy implications if you don't want your IP address associated with having read that text.

Edit: As of version 118, Firefox now has the ability to translate text locally on your computer, without needing to send it to a cloud service. You can enable this in Settings -> Translation -> Install languages for offline translation. Note that at this time (May 2024), 18 (mostly European) languages are supported. More info here.

UnTrap for YouTube

(compatible with Firefox for Android and they have a Safari for iOS extension too)

This addon lets you tweak the YouTube interface and hide anything you don't want to see. For instance, I hide all the "recommended" videos that come up when you search YT now. They have nothing to do with your search, so they're essentially just ads YT puts in your search results. I also hide Explore, Trending, More from YouTube, and Shorts sections, but you can customize it to fit your preferences.

Note: depending on the particular set of tweaks you want to make to YouTube, you may prefer to use YouTube Search Fixer instead. User preference.

Indie Wiki Buddy

I loathe Fandom.com wiki sites - they are cluttered and filled with ads and autoplaying videos that follow you down the page as you scroll. The organization is also hostile - if a community tries to leave their platform and bring their content to a new wiki hoster, Fandom bans them from the platform and reverts all their deletions/changes. Indie Wiki Buddy attempts to find an independent alternative for the wiki you're trying to browse and automatically redirects you to it, and if one doesn't exist, it will redirect you to a proxy site like antifandom or breezewiki that shows the Fandom content but removes all ads/videos/background images so you can actually, you know. READ it.

Cookie Auto Delete

(compatible with Firefox for Android)

Websites store "cookies" - little text files with info about you - on your computer as you browse so they can track you as you browse the internet. This addon automatically deletes cookies from a website a short while after you close the last tab you had open for that site. You can customize how long it waits before clearing cookies too. Note that this can sign you out of many websites, so you can whitelist any site you don't want cookies cleared for.

ShopSuey - Get Rid of Ads on Amazon and Ebay

Removes the ads/recommended products that clutter up Amazon and Ebay search results and product pages.

LibraryExtension

This fantastic addon recognizes when you are viewing a book on many popular websites and can automatically check whether that book is available in any of the library systems or subscription services you have access to, including how many copies your library(ies) have and how many are currently checked out. The best part is it shows the availability for physical books, ebooks, AND audiobooks at supported libraries. The extension currently supports libraries in Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, but it also supports some global repositories like the Internet Archive and subscription services like NLS Bard for the blind and print disabled, Kobo Plus, Libro.fm, Anyplay.fm, Bookmate, and Everand. Great extension for people trying to support their local library and also save money.

Filtering+ for Tumblr

This addon lets you add tags or phrases to your tumblr tag filters with two clicks, without leaving the dashboard. I've been asking Tumblr for this tag filtering behavior on their mobile apps (i.e. press and hold a tag to get a filter option) for at least a year now in asks and surveys, without ever stopping to see if someone had already implemented this on desktop. More fool me. This addon is from the author of XKit Rewritten. Note that the right-click tag filtering only works on the dashboard; it will not appear if you are on someone's blog. Right-clicking selected text to filter the phrase works everywhere based on my testing.

Absolute Enable Right Click & Copy

This addon does its best to re-enable the normal right-click context menu and copy/paste actions on pages that try to disable them. If you run into a site that messes with either of those, select this addon and check "Enable Copy," then try again. If that doesn't work, check "Absolute mode." It doesn't work everywhere, but I find it very helpful.

RECENT SEO & MARKETING NEWS FOR ECOMMERCE, March 2024

Welcome to my roundup of SEO and marketing news and useful resources for ecommerce businesses, March edition. There is a lot going on with Google, and some really strong marketing pieces this time around, so let's get right to it.

SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES 

Google launched both a core algorithm update and spam updates on March 5, with the spam update ending on the 20th. Core updates now include the Helpful Content algorithm. In early observations, Etsy and Reddit both picked up visibility in the UK. 

The Helpful Content algorithm updates late last year destroyed a lot of sites’ Google traffic. Avoid the things they had in common.  You can read the full study here. 

Ecommerce sites were some of the biggest losers in Google visibility in 2023, with Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Etsy, Target and Best Buy in the top 10 of sites whose Google appearances slipped. 

New to Google SEO? They’ve revamped their SEO starter guide for people like you. And if you are more advanced and want to learn how to optimize your website product pages, this is a good overview. 

This lengthy article on backlinks for ecommerce websites covers pretty much all the angles, including the really difficult ones. 

Reminder that if you want to rank on Google for a search term, you need to look at what is already ranking, and make decisions based on that content. [video and transcript] This works for most search engines, not just Google. 

Yes, Google crawls “high quality” content more often. I used to refer to this as Google thinking the page is “interesting”, so I guess I will need to change my wording...

While Google sends the most traffic to websites, people spend a lot more of their online time elsewhere. Market where people are, not just where your stats say they came from. 

Sadly, Google has stopped providing caches of website pages in its search results. While you can still see the caches of some pages by using the Google search Cache:[page link] as in cache:https://cindylouwho-2.tumblr.com that will eventually stop working as well. Bing still provides caches, but unfortunately both it and the Wayback Machine do not crawl often enough to give really recent results most of the time.

Yandex - the top search engine in Russia - was sold by its Dutch ownership group to a consortium in Russia. 

SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site

General

A US study of social media use found that the most popular site was YouTube, with 83% of adults using it. Two-thirds of American adults use Facebook, while TikTok is up to ⅓ of the US population. 

Because they do change periodically, here are the latest image and video sizes recommended for the top social media platforms. [infographic]

Bluesky is now open to everyone - it was previously invite-only. 

Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)

Meta has introduced several changes to its Ad options, applying to Facebook and Instagram. 

Meta had a great 4th quarter in 2023, with revenue, users, and earnings per share up. “Fast-growing upstarts Temu and Shein, which originated in China, have been pouring money into ads on Facebook and Instagram. Li said on Thursday that revenue from China-based advertisers accounted for 10% of sales for the year and 5 percentage points of growth.”

Instagram

An updated post on Instagram's algorithm and how it works. 

Instagram is still beta testing longer Reels for some users. 

If your account is a brand account, you can now run ads on Instagram with coupon codes right in them. (Some Facebook users can already do this.)

LinkedIn

Among other recent changes on LinkedIn, the algorithm is now looking to boost important content longer than just the first day or two after publication. 

Pinterest

Pinterest has its own stats package, called Pinterest Analytics, but only for “Business” accounts. They show how many people clicked on the outgoing links, how many people saw your pin on their screen, and much more. Here’s everything you need to know. 

Reddit

Reddit successfully launched on the stock market this past week, but questions remain about how this will change the site. 

Google is paying Reddit to scrape its content through the API instead of from the web. 

Snapchat

Snap was a little later than most tech companies doing layoffs recently, waiting until February 5 to let 10% off staff go. 

Threads

Threads is so new that the algorithm is bound to change a lot in the next year, but for right now, here is how it works. 

TikTok

There is an overwhelming amount of info out there on the US attempt to either ban TikTok or force its sale, and much of it is incomplete, so I will let you Google to your heart’s content if you want to learn more. If you are relying on TikTok to drive sales, this would be a good time to make sure you diversify your promotional strategy. 

You can now track trending terms on TikTok through the Creator Search Insights section. “Creator Search Insights will highlight frequently searched topics, which creators can organize by category (for example, tourism, sports, science) or tailor to their content type with the “For You” option. Additionally, creators can filter for “content gap” topics, which are highly searched but have relatively few videos on TikTok covering them.“

TikTok may be testing a photo app, which would obviously compete with Instagram. 

Twitter

What? Twitter may have lied about its Super Bowl ad performance? I’m so not shocked. 

Tumblr

Tumblr will be selling data access to AI companies. 

YouTube

This is a pretty decent article on YouTube SEO. 

(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies) 

Small and micro-businesses need an email list. An email list is:  

portable (unlike most social media followers or marketplace buyers) 

is available to almost everyone, as we all need at least one email address if we are online

less susceptible to the whims of algorithms (unlike SEO, marketplaces, social etc.)  

I keep seeing people argue that no one opens emails, but the chart in the article above is proof that is still wrong. (My blog email list averages close to a 70% open rate, depending on the topic and the time I send it. My jewellery email list - which I hardly ever send to - still has an over 30% open rate. My click rates are well above the industry averages, usually 30 to 40% of all recipients for the blog list. These are much better numbers than social, and astronomically better than my clickthrough rate on Google and other search engines.)

Gmail and Yahoo both changed how they handle bulk emails such as newsletters in February. Here’s what you need to know on the basics, including authenticating yourself so your email gets through.

Google Ads can now be tracked in Google Analytics 4. 

Both Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising were up in the 4th quarter of 2023.

Google Analytics 4 tracks organic traffic differently than the previous version. Here’s how to figure it out.
