Legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is not a fan of "Sex and the City: The Movie," branding the film's fashion styling uninspiring and "quite dull."
The designer, 67, is name-checked in the film and even created a dress worn by Sarah Jessica Parker's fashionista character Carrie.
But Westwood insists she was far from impressed with stylist Patricia Field's work on the big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series.
She says, "I thought 'Sex and the City' was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion and there was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw.
"I went to the premiere and left after 10 minutes."

Review: House Of Gucci
Review: House Of Gucci
Ridley Scott lands with another weighty (The first being The Last Duel) ‘based on a true story’ movie that hits all the right notes albeit with a few niggles that ultimately pays off for the viewer. When Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider from humble beginnings, marries into the Gucci family, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal,…

HBO’s Sharp Objects and How We View Women
By Prachi Bhatia
Tumblr media
Sharp Objects is a 2018 psychological thriller HBO miniseries based on 2006 Gillan Flynn novel of the same name. It stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a crime reporter who comes back to her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri to investigate the murder of two young girls. While in Wind Gap, a lot of Camille’s childhood trauma resurfaces as she meets with her mother, Adora (Patricia Clarkson) who is very well known and praised in town.
No one would even suspect who killed the girls as we progress further in the show. Camille’s alcoholism and her history of self harm mingled with her living under Adora’s roof and having to deal with Amma’s (Eliza Scanlen) nightly adventures kind of leads us astray but when we do get a rough idea that it might be her mother’s sick and twisted ways that lead those two girls to their deaths, we’re met with another shocking twist at the very end of episode 8. If 13 year old Amma’s “don’t tell mama” followed by a quick snippet of her brutally strangling the victims doesn’t send a chill down your spine then you’re truly invincible.
Tumblr media
How we, as a society, view women plays a lot into this. They’re seen as fragile, non violent creatures and that even when they are violent, it is never something direct, it’s always a whack in the back, it is subtle, much like poisoning. Their type of violence always appears to be of secondary nature (almost how some of us view women’s issues), quick and barely painful. Through Sharp Objects, Flynn reminds us that women are capable of extreme violence too. When we do get a chance to evaluate someone’s evil, a woman’s exterior is never really questioned. There were a number of times Amma’s behaviour could’ve brought her under suspicion but no one reads into it.
Which raises one very important question. Why are usually only male characters portrayed as these complex, almost impossible to decipher mysterious beings in mainstream media and women, the complete opposite? A female character will be introduced and that is all. She’s immediately an open book, every aspect of her is laid out on a platter then and there when, in the real world, it is believed to be the other way around. This does not mean that men aren’t capable of complex emotions but the exaggeration and the sheer ignorance towards the character development of their female counterparts is honestly getting sort of boring at this point and desperately requires change.
“I’ve grown quite weary of the spunky heroines, brave rape victims, soul-searching fashionistas that stock so many books. I particularly mourn the lack of female villains — good, potent female villains. Not ill-tempered women who scheme about landing good men and better shoes (as if we had nothing more interesting to war over), not chilly WASP mothers (emotionally distant isn’t necessarily evil), not soapy vixens (merely bitchy doesn’t qualify either). I’m talking violent, wicked women. Scary women. Don’t tell me you don’t know some. The point is, women have spent so many years girl-powering ourselves — to the point of almost parodic encouragement — we’ve left no room to acknowledge our dark side. Dark sides are important. They should be nurtured like nasty black orchids.”
— Gillian Flynn

Hello! Can I get a ship? 💖 My name’s Patricia (Patty). She/her. 179 cm tall; dark brown, past shoulder-length hair with bangs; blue eyes (the left eye is mixed with hazel, aka, heterochromia iridium); heptagon face shape with dimples; rectangle body shape. Hufflepuff. INFP-T. Bi-curious. Pisces-Aries cusp sign. ”Looks like could kill you, but is actually a cinnamon roll.” At first, I may come off as reserved, shy, yet polite. I, as many of us, have a resting bitch face, that’s why people may think that I’m in a bad mood. It takes me a lot of time to warm up to somebody, cause I have social anxiety. Hate small talk, or speaking in front of the public. When I’m nervous, I tend to mess up my words or forget what I was supposed to say. I’m usually playful, dirty-minded and goofy around close friends. I’m the so-called, ”fashionista and mom” from my circle of friends. A perfectionist, punctual, over-thinker, slight control/clean freak. Stubborn in some situations. If I’m annoyed or getting impatient, I can say something witty or sarcastic. I’m constantly fighting an inner battle with myself, trying to accept myself. I don’t like to smile or laugh in public, cause of the small gap between my front teeth. I really hate taking selfies or somebody else taking pictures of me. The clothes I wear depends on my mood (and the weather outside), but it’s always a mix of smart casual or comfortable. Don’t like doing things out of my comfort zone, prefer to stay indoors. Dislike asking people for help (it makes me feel uncomfortable). I don’t like arguments, but I will square up if they come for my family or I snapped. I’m a kind-hearted person, always ready to help someone in need, quite modest as well. My hobbies include listening to any type of music, reading, watching movies or tv shows, traveling (if given the chance), and cleaning. Have a thing for writing. Very protective of my family. Divorced parents. Motherly towards kids and friends. An old soul, and the ”black sheep” of my family. A feminist, support LGBTQ+ community. Sometimes I like to try and cook easy recipes. Dislike black coffee, prefer tea or orange juice. That’s it, - thanks!
hiiii patty <3
character - george weasley
i had a lot of fun writing this one, so i hope you like it!
he still remembers the first day he saw you; the way your hair framed your face perfectly, how carefree your laugh was as it filled the air, and just how perfectly your uniform fit you- the golden hues contrasting the varying shades of blues present within your eyes.
it was no secret that george fancied you. it was incredibly obvious to everyone around the two of you, actually. easy to tell by the way that he gazed at you with adoration and longing in his eyes, followed by a shy smile, and the rosiest shade of pink dusting his cheeks whenever fred would pull him out of the trance you placed him under.
hell, just looking at you caused his heart to sputter, practically begging to leap right out of his chest and run over to you screaming ‘hey! guess what! I’m in love with you!’
although everyone else was very aware of his little crush on you, you remained blissfully unaware. never speaking more than a few words to him at once, just a ‘hi, how are you?’ everyone once in a while or a casual ‘did you do the potions readings?’ when he found himself much too busy with prank plans to do the work.
oh, but how he wished he could talk to you. he longed to be the cause of your laughter, or your smile- which he swore lit up any room that you walked into.
with one of the annual hogsmeade trips coming up, fred convinced him that it would be the perfect time to ask you out. maybe just to grab a butterbeer, or for a walk around while the two of you got to know eachother.
george was scared shitless, to say the absolute least.
talking to you? that was hard enough! he thought, he couldn’t begin to image how he would even begin to ask you to be his ‘date’ for the trip.
it took a week and a half for him to even gather HALF of the courage he originally intended to have by the time he would ask you, but fred was getting pushy, and lee insisted that it would go well. so, carpe diem, he supposed.
he decided to ask after potions, but the wait drove him crazy- the butterflies in his stomach multiplying by the end of class, his hands shaking widely as he called your name.
“hey, patty” he hesitated for a second when you looked over at him, his heart doing the same flutter that it always does. “you don’t have a date to hogsmeade or anything, right?”
“depends on who’s asking.” you shoot back at him, a cheeky smile gracing your face as you lean against one of the desks in the now nearly empty classroom.
“i am, and i’m wondering that, uh, well.” george took a minute to compose himself. “if you would want to be my ‘date’?” he put air-quotations around the word, a nervous smile spreading across his lips as he awaited your answer.
your smile grew, “i would love to.”

20 Years After Their Debuts, Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown's Style Still Feels Revolutionary
They found their voice in fashion as much as they did in music.
It started with one hell of an iconic promo shot: Lil' Kim with legs akimbo, serving a come-hither face; squatting unapologetically in heels, a leopard Patricia Field thong bikini, and a sheer, marabou-feathered duster. Just the description of it gives one reason to pause, but actually seeing it was an event. It was a visual prelude to everything her debut album, Hard Core, would be lyrically: sensational, raunchy, and powerful all at the same time.
One week later—arguably the most pivotal seven-day stretch in women's hip-hop history—Foxy Brown released Ill Na Na, her debut album. The cover evinced her signature confidence. It gave us full-on sultry, revealing the crescendo of her perfect breasts in a black, low-cut, spaghetti-strapped négligée. It had been years since women had charted so significantly in rap music. Then, just like that, in November 1996, there were two forces at once.
Lil' Kim and Foxy changed the way women consumed and contributed to the music. Together, their debut albums have sold more than 3 million units in the U.S. alone—unprecedented numbers for ladies in hip-hop. Together, they revolutionized the subculture of hip-hop fashion: one exclusive Gucci dress, one classic Christian Dior belt, one head-to-toe Fendi ensemble at a time.
City sidewalks have long been runways for Black women's exquisite sense of style and carriage. Dressing is part of our cultural identity. Historically denied the opportunity to strut catwalks in the fashion capitals of the world, we turned the streets into a running display of our dopeness. "It's a signifier for self-worth and pride, and that transcends time, no matter when you look at it. We put a lot of intentionality into the way we dress," says Joanne Hyppolite, PhD, curator at the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
As mastermind of the Cultural Expressions exhibit, which highlights our interpretation of fashion, Hyppolite points to generational examples of Black women using our clothing, our hairstyles, and our accessories to create an outward expression of self-love that has belied the oppression we've endured. "If you're dressing, no matter what condition you're under, no matter the circumstance, you're showing how you value yourself. It says, 'I'm somebody. I'm something,'" she adds.
THEIR FASHION CHOICES PUSHED BEYOND STANDARD, ATTENTION-GETTING SEXINESS TO COMMAND POWER IN A MALE-DOMINATED GENRE, IN A MALE-DOMINATED INDUSTRY.
It's a cultural tradition inherited by Kim and Foxy, two girls from Brooklyn who both found their voices in fashion as much as they did in their music. Their styles, different even from each other, were a departure from those of their legendary predecessors—like Queen Latifah, who rocked African-print garb; MC Lyte, who represented around-the-way-girl sneakers and jeans; and Salt-N-Pepa, who made shiny spandex and leather a definitive trend of their time.
They were even more of a contrast to the baggy-jeaned outfitting of label mates and group members who juxtaposed their alpha-male masculinity against Kim and Foxy's tough-but-girly personas. As the only females in their crews, their fashion choices pushed beyond standard, attention-getting sexiness to command power in a male-dominated genre, in a male-dominated industry. Just as importantly, they made Black women visible to high-end fashion houses who weren't observant of our style hegemony until Kim and Foxy forced them to pay attention.
"People are attracted to energy. Some could have judged Kim and Foxy harshly, but the fact of the matter is they created an energy that was taking over. Everybody wanted a piece of it," Misa Hylton, the legendary stylist who created the look for Lil' Kim's jaw-dropping bikini pose and began styling Foxy Brown when she was still a teenager, says. "It was a magic that happens every so often. They came up in a time when the sound of music was changing and evolving into something new. Hip-hop culture was spreading, and fashion houses and high-end designers became interested in them. They saw them as trendsetters and they saw value in them from a marketing [perspective]."
Foxy celebrated the beauty of her mahogany skin as the self-professed "dark-skinned Christian Dior poster girl," boasted about being "dripped in Gabbana," and did a campaign for Calvin Klein, starring in billboards as big as the pride of the Black girls who saw themselves in her likeness. Kim, too, had her model moment, posing for Louis Vuitton in an ad that was canceled but memorialized instead by photographer David LaChapelle, with an image of Kim wearing nothing but a skin-tone cap and the Louis Vuitton monogram imprinted all over her body, an image that's far more famous than the original shot likely ever would have been.
In aligning themselves with names that are synonymous with wealth, opulence, and impeccable design—Versace, Gucci, Fendi, Armani, Moschino—each woman became a superstar of '90s style. "These women had a lifestyle that was introduced to the world and people bought into it. Music and fashion became something that you had to be a part of and know about," Hylton says. So as technology changed and fans and fashionistas were able to more quickly access images and videos, they were also better able to interpret what Kim and Foxy wore for themselves, editing as necessary.
It's important to honor Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown the women, even as we celebrate Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown the hip-hop artists, inadvertent feminists, and archetypal style-makers. Both are blessed with radiant self-confidence that permeates their public images, and both ooze a natural charisma that commands all-eyes-on-me attention. A woman pretty much has to possess copious quantities of both in order to strut across the stages of packed-out arenas in string bikinis and floor-length minks, neon wigs, and fishnet bodysuits. Their use of fashion was part of packaging an image, but it was also a celebration of their liberated womanhood: the ability to wear whatever, be whoever, and own it for themselves.
