My name is Mari Bendeliani. I am a student graduate and my research fields are creative pattern cutting, experimental drawings and using body movements as expressive tools of unique artistic style. I'd love to learn menswear tailoring, and do things i can't yet do and expand. Creative pattern cutting and drawing help me find new ways and approach to garment making and expressing myself through creating.

Week 1
Lecture 1, Afternoon session with Paula
Fashion
Constructing a garment, a brief lecture surrounding pattern drafting, pattern adaptation and combing patterns together. An interactive workshop tutorial that was both creative and informative, enhancing skill bases and leaving new techniques.
To begin this afternoon lecture Paula began by introducing the 4 stationary methods of pattern drafting. In sewing, fashion desgin and garment construction, a pattern is the template from which the individual parts of a garment are traced into fabric before being cut out and assembled to be transformed into a wearable contstructed garment. Pattern drafting touches brings forward the idea of variation to follow the body body’s contours using multiple different blocks to adapt the outline and silhouette. Another stationary method of to pattern drafting is pattern adaptation, a technique commonplace used with fashion desginers within industry. Pattern adaptation is the the idea of taking and amdentpding blocks in patterns, using Yoak lines to interpret panels and pleats mirroring existing fashion garments within industry. A final stationary method of pattern drafting Paula briefly mentioned was actually working directly into the pattern markings and adding addional fabrics and materials to adapt the structure and silhouette of the garment to fit the consumer profile to match and fulfil the customers specific needs, wants and requirements as a retailer.
Below showcase primary photographs of Paula transporting the traspartment drafting paper onto the mannequin, following the body’s silhouette to create a wearable garment.
Throughout each lecture I attend I ensure to gather a cluster of key notes that I belive will support me in both my creative ability but also when referencing back to my interactive journal, being my blog. After briefly discussing the fundamental key noted aspeacts behind pattern drafting, Paula mentioned the grain line. A grain line is a distinctive line that runs parallel to the fabric and is a necessity in the process of any garment creation, this I considered would be something vital chronologically in this first initial workshop. Furthermore I was introduced to the warp line and weft, terms I was unfamiliar with not actually completing a fashion desgin course at any level of education. As a class we were informed that the warp line is also situated parelle to the length of the fabric and the weft parelle across the width of the garment, all three lines we must include in the making of our garment.
Below are images I captured during the development of our groups garment.
Being on my own I didn’t feel cofortable in the making, development and creation process of my garment, so took the decision to join groups with another brand team for this workshop exercise. We were asked as a team to base our desgin surrounding a new upcoming desginer who’s works would play a major influential role in our garments creation and development. Using transparent drafting paper collectively as a group we began placing the thin paper onto the mannequin using garment pins. Wanting to manipulate the contours of the manniques silhouette to create a tight fitted bodycon dress that incorporated pleating manipulation, whilst imitating robust features that stimulated power dressing. By working into the pattern and adding extra material we began the transformation from drafting paper to a visual appealing dress conformed desgin. Using our picture as main inspiration for our garments completion, we began manipulating the appearance of the paper by cutting, folding and pleating the drafting material to transform our desgin into a wearable and fashionable garment. Wanting to add an addional element we used a manipulated Chiffon material called Calico to drape fabric situated at the the back of the garment, this I considered would add greater definition and make the garment more visually interesting by the incorporating an addional fabric within the garments simplistic desgin.
Below photographs how I decided to drape the Calico material behind the garment as an addional elment to the garments desgin
Overall I was statistifed with the outcome we had created as a group as we took inspiration and guidence from an upcoming desginer however manipulated our desgin into our own style making this garment an orginal and bespoke garment.
Below is an image of one book recommendation that Paula suggested all fashion desgin students should purchase for this module. Evidence also that I sent to my group the book recommendation, to make them aware of the relevance of the book for this progressing module. Addionally sent our final garment to add into their blogs to increase content.

Railings and Structure ‘Feeling safe’ By Nadine El Garhy Foundation - Art and Design , pathway Fashion and Textiles Online Portfolio for more of my work:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/95341747/DIGITAL-FASHION-PORTFOLIO-by-Nadine-El-Garhy
The aim was it to apply the safe and secure structure of Railings onto a garment, giving the wearer a comfortable and secure experience. The Idea was inspired by an article I found, asking you to “Imagine what would happen if all the railings in the world would disappear.” I found the idea intriguing, to focus on a common everyday feature in our lives and emphasise its importance through fashion. My concept is meant to underline the similar qualities railings and certain clothes such as dresses and sportswear are meant to have, such as security, comfort and safety. Final Garment. (active wear in 4th row) This two piece is meant to make the wearer feel comfortable, confident and beautiful while undergoing their exercises for the day. Final Garment (Summerly, outdoor garment, last row) This Garment is meant to be worn to an outdoor cocktail party or garden party. The two piece follows the geometric shape of railings, I was inspired by.

Face in the crowd. Towards the end of the Raul Penaranda fashion show, the audience and some photographers stood in front of my table so I could no longer see the models to sketch. I picked out a lovely lady to draw and gave her this piece afterwards.
