How would mychael be with a religious s/o? Does he believe in some sort of higher being? (my bad if this was asked already)
I've answered if he has his own religion before, but meeting a religious MC I think he'd be respectful about it despite not understanding the appeal.
There's just too many things that humans believe in that doesn't apply to Mychael's lifestyle, but he commends the human race for having multiple rich and diverse beliefs that overall guide them in doing good.
#mushroom oasis vn#mychael ask#ig the idea of a higher being fascinates him#but its too philosophical for his brain to ponder about for too long#'do good. avoid bad' is what he stands by really#why complicate it

odysseus has "hurt more lives than i can count on my hands" which doesnt sound like a lot by our standards BUT the ancient greeks had a finger counting system that they got from the babylonians (probably a few middlemen there too but whatever) which is where WE get the base-twelve grouping names such as dozen and gross - they counted on each knuckle, which got up to twelve on one hand (a dozen) and by using the other hand as a "tens column" could get up to 144 (a gross) so the 600 of his own men, plus the infant prince, anyone he killed in the war, the cyclops, the sirens, calypso, and poseidon equal a whole lot more than 144 so yes, he hurt more lives than he can count on his hands.
penelope is from sparta and she was cunning on her own, so she was definitely into that shit ody had nothing to worry about 馃槅

Sex pollen fic but the characters do it recreationally, like psychedelics
(any number of participants, could be poly)
There's one sober person who ensures everyone gets a good experience
Someone complains about it not working right before the effect hits
The pollenned person gets a lecture on what they should expect
There's That One Scientist who documents everything and loudly announces which region of their brain is shutting down currently
Food is prepared in advance and it's honestly the best part of the experience
There's generally a Procedure and a Culture around it
The pollenned person gets handed sleeping pills if it's a bad trip
I unironically think it could be such a lovely setting for a very sweet and awkward kind of intimacy
#I'm currently living in a country where psylocybin mushrooms and other mild things are legal#so my lab's welcoming ritual is to feed newcomers mushrooms (you can refuse but it's offered and people normally accept)#(things you didn't want to know about scientists)#and while I found the experience itself somewhat underwhelming#the culture around it is very sweet#and I think it should be captured somewhere#also we have a mathematician in our lab who didn't react to a double dose of lsd#he just has this level of control over his own mind#lsd doesn't work on him#and I'm fascinated by it

brother crab's fall 2024 first impressions: kinokoinu
good lord look at this thang. it is so Shaped
so imo this is a show that is going to live or die by how cute this lil guy is or isn't, and it's pretty adorable so far but......
holy shit the first episode was so depressing that for me it was almost a drag to watch. it definitely wasn't bad! it reminded me a bit of hizaue at times, which is one of my favorites of the ctdct (cute thing doing cute things) genre, so i didn't not like it
i guess for me personally i expect cute and funny from shows of this genre, and the humor isn't quite there yet. that's not to say it has to be funny all the time, or that it can't be earnest and emotionally raw as well. i'm just hoping the next episodes will have this funny-looking little guy being a little, well, funny too (which based on the synopsis it does seem like that will happen!)
anyway it was cute but more melancholy than i expected. not a bad thing, just not a thing i was prepared for. might take another week or two to fully solidify my feelings about this one
#crab watches#fall 2024#first impressions#kinokoinu#i guess i'm not wild about it yet but really not bad#surprised the lil mushroom guy doesn't seem to talk (at least not yet)#did they get kobayashi daiki in here just to make noises lol#i mean that's not rare! it happens all the time!#though i always wonder how voice actors feel about roles that are just. solely noises#i'm sure different ones feel different about it ofc#fascinating to think about. anyway

hello hello!!
learned about this fun thing called mycorrhizal fungi (myco=fungus), rhizal=root) which is complicated words used to describe the symbiotic relationship between plants and fungi that grow on their roots. the fungi are called mycorrhiza and the long and short of it is that they attach to plants roots (plants roots can only grow so large, that's their root zone or rhizosphere big words are fun) and eventually they use up the nutrients in the soil in said root zone and some nutrients (namely phosphorus which is important for the plants to copy DNA and make nucleic acids that would tell other stuff how to make proteins etc for the plant to grow and stuff) don't move so the phosphorus in the rhizosphere cant be replenished once its used up. that's where the mycorrhiza come in. they effectively extend the area the roots are able to draw nutrients from and in return the plant produces glucose (through photosynthesis) that the mycorrhiza use as food because they cant really produce their own
tldr: cool fungus lives on plant roots, it makes sure the plant gets everything it needs, the plant allows the fungus to eat the food it makes
this train of thought led me to grian as mother spore
which led me to hunger au grian
and working out a symbiotic relationship with him and other people
which led me to the idea of him being a hireable like. hype man..
like,,, need help asking someone you like out on a date? he'll heighten your confidence so you can go do the thing and he gets lunch in the process! /silly

SKHWJDNEKDJKDBKWHDKEJDK REALLY FUNNY IMAGE, HELP... he's got one of those ads on facebook that pop up during the holidays for ppl who need to piss off their families /j /j
OKAY ACTUALLY FUN FACT but ive actually compared the Listeners to mycorrhizae before!!! In my head they are very fungal in nature, and thats the best way ive been able to describe the symbiotic relationship they have with the Players they fuse to. Honestly i love fungi and mycology in general, its such a deeply fascinating subject to pour a bunch of time into, and im glad you seem to be enjoying learning more about it!!! :DDD
#shouting speaks#asks#hunger au#the various sciences fascinate the shit out of me tbh#about uhhh a few months ago when i was working on my solo piece for hgcz i ended up doing a bunch of research into liquid cultures#which was VERY fascinating to learn about while writing#and helped elevate how i wrote the Catalyst quite a lot hehe#we shake hands leaf anon i find fungi so fucking cool <- ate mushrooms with dinner tonite#txt

Humans should be more like mushrooms
Mushroom colonies are connected by a network of microscopic root like threads called mycelium. When one mushroom is low on nutrients or resources a mushroom with surplus will send over some resources to help the other. This allows the whole colony to thrive even when some mushrooms are in a bad spot and others are in a good spot.
Humans can do this and I think we should. Help your fellow mushrooms.

The fact that yakumo has made so much soup that eiden can ID the type based on smell alone
#I'm going to destroy yakumo. I'm going to braise him in one of his magical soups. mash him flat with my palate then MASTICATE HIM#look i know that certain soups have very distinctive smells like.... cream stews or beefy stews#but once it gets into smoov broth style my sense of smell cannot reliably ID a soup's ingredients#unless they're associated with strongk spices like pho. star anise u kno what i mean#i'll just be like... chicken and.... smth sweet.... carrot? maybe???? wait what do you mean it's not chicken. wait it's MEATLESS?#wait which vegetable soup was it. pumpkin? no. squash? no. tomato??? NO?? THAT ONE SPECIFIC MEDLEY WITH THE SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS? nOO??????#if u have excellent soup smelling capabilities pls do elaborate. i am fascinated#in the meantime. i will assume that yakumo has made so many soups that eiden just knows the repertoire#love that eiden was like anyway i'm dead. yea it makes sense that yakumo is making soup for me in the afterlife. then he came to his senses#i love u eiden i hope u didn't get a concussion and you're fine and your pretty lil head is unharmed and ready to drink soup :)#frozen echoes#nu carnival eiden#nu carnival yakumo

Why are you apologizing to the mold?
its more like..... forgiving mold than apologizing. i just think mold is fascinating! obviously moldy things are sad but mold itself can be quite useful (for example, penicillin comes from a type of mold and certain cheeses are made using mold)
im just fond of mold and fungi and general even if theyre usually assumed to be dirty/symbolize death or rotting. mold is cool as long as its not eating my food or my house or my lungs
#my random garbage#hidden fischlich lore is that i love fungi#certain molds may be destructive but theyre such fascinating fungi and i feel like they and yeasts r overlooked a lot in favor of mushrooms#where is my mold representation!!!!!

What is Mychael's favorite food and drink?
Ironically? Fried mushrooms. Plenty to find and easy to forage. More of a favourite snack than a meal; he eats them like chips, at least the ones he knows are safe to eat.
As for drinks, it's tomato juice.
#mushroom oasis vn#mychael ask#unrelated but he's also fascinated by fizzy drinks#if you tell him they're human-brewed potions he'll believe you

Bruh why are mycology people like this 馃槕 I hate pseudoscience so much, please god I just wanted a textbook that's fun to read.
I was reading Radical Mycology by Peter McCoy, right? And the first few sections are pretty good! Got me actually interested in the biology and taxonomy of fungi, and understanding them as their own thing outside of just mushrooms. But then the dude starts talking homeopathy and honest to god alchemy in the middle. Be real. In retrospect, he was kinda woowoo in earlier sections too but I gave him a pass since everything else was tracking. In looking back, I think it's egregious how he misrepresented the EZ water phenomenon. Like just straight up says it's H3O2. Pollack has published peer reviewed work, but he's also misrepresented that work to sell water filters. And it's unclear what aspects of his claims, if any, could actually apply to fungal biology. The shitty thing is I literally would have no idea if I was even slightly more gullible. EZ water came up as I was trying to find more critical Radical Mycology reviews and that's what led to me chasing it down. As it is I gotta backtrack on some conversations I may have had a couple weeks ago to let my friends and colleagues subtly know that Peter McCoy is now my sworn enemy and EZ water ain't a thing. Or at least, not the way people say it is.
I fr can't stand how far you need to dig through reviews to find something that even approaches negative for this book. So, I paid to access a review written by an actual peer reviewed scientist in an actual peer reviewed journal. Tell your friends, don't read Radical Mycology. Even if you're just interested in cultivation techniques, there's better stuff out there.
#overall good reminder that i am not immune to propaganda#ignis talks#mycology#*through gritted teeth* i will not let this ruin mycology for me#i am so endlessly fascinated by these organisms i will not let one bad book and a little scuffed pride throw me off#pseudoscience#ecology#mushrooms#fungi

#Currently reading#'Mushroom at the End of the World' was fascinating#jumped around a lot but was full of hope and interesting ecology#'Everything for Everyone' was wonderfully unique - the sci-fi bits were a bit far-fetched imo but I enjoyed the optimism#'Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work' was a solid 40k novel#interesting plot and not too 'bolter porn' for my liking
